It’sbacktorunning

If today we can call the January 2023 edition of Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags a good success, it is because we have worked well over the past few years, albeit very difficult ones. The results of the 98th edition went beyond our wildest expectations: in terms of visitors and exhibitors. Despite the complexity, we undertook an overall reorganization of the company; we invested a lot of resources in market analysis; and we fielded individuals who could anticipate international trends. In the next few pages, you will see the results of this work: a wide variety of proposals both in terms of intended use and variety of price and origin.

And now it’s back to running. As I write, I am visiting some important international partners to ensure that the next edition of Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags in June (from 17 to 20) will have even more international appeal. The invitation is not to miss it and to take advantage of the exhibition platforms to push exports and generate new and profitable business relationships.

4 Fair

calzature e pelletteria a livello globale.

vincitore dell’Innovation Village Competition.

5 Fair

ExpoRivaSchuh&Gardabags, backinthelight!

Ten international government delegations, more than 8,600 attendees from 100 countries and visitors from outside the EU up 5%. These are the figures with which Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags closes an edition that enabled footwear and leather goods operators to restore their business momentum.

We’re out of the tunnel, the 98th edition of Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags has confirmed it. The feeling was clear from the very first day, like squinting before emerging from a tunnel and coming back into the light. The numbers of the Riva del Garda show are clear: the difficult period, following the pandemic, is behind us. From 14 to 17 January, Riva del Garda witnessed a return to business, with exhibitors and buyers of footwear and leather goods from all over the world very satisfied with the opportunities presented to them at the show.

Roberto Pellegrini, Chairman of Riva del Garda Fierecongressi, comments: “We close this edition with a smile. The uncertainty into which Covid threw the entire industry has finally dissipated. Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags has once again become the crucial business platform for all those who want to buy and sell footwear and leather goods on a global scale. Numbers do not always tell the whole story, but in this case, they help to explain what our satisfaction and optimism for the future is based on”.

Attendance was 8,610, with people coming from more than 100 countries, extremely positive numbers that were accompanied by visitors from outside Europe increasing by 5% as a percentage of the total. Particularly noteworthy was the growth in visitor numbers from Latin America, South East Asia and North America. The influx of buyers from Israel was a nice surprise, while the number of Italian visitors also increased.

“"It was very gratifying to see so many delegations from all over the world, who appreciated the variety of the offer present at Riva del Garda," says Alessandra Albarelli, Director of Riva del Garda Fierecongressi.

6 Fair

"Ten governmental institutional delegations attended, from India, Turkey, Spain, Portugal, Indonesia, Côte d'Ivoire, Hong Kong, Italy, and the Chinese regions of Sichuan and Wenzhou. By meeting them in the setting of the new Business Club, we were able to get an even deeper insight into their markets and needs. The fact that a number of important trade show associations and institutions from other countries have asked us to work with them to grow their events and the entire sector in their region makes us proud of the work we have done”. The important commitment to the incoming market, made in recent months, has borne fruit and the buyers who came to Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags appreciated not only the new collections on display, but also the in-depth meetings dedicated to supply chain sustainability and traceability, as well as the various innovations proposed by the start-ups of Innovation Village Retail. The winner of the Innovation Village Competition was announced during the show. The event's Scientific Committee and a broad spectrum of experts and operators in the sector chose WonderStore (wonderstore.ai) as the winner, with ACBC and iHEEL taking the other places on the podium. The start-up, which is already on the market, uses the latest IoT, Computer Vision, AI and storytelling analytics technologies to profile, count, track and analyse customers visiting a shop and provide useful insights to boost sales.

Innovation was not the only theme at Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags, it also provided an overview of several established and growing markets. The Market Focuses dedicated to Germanspeaking European countries, Latin America, India, the USA and South East Asia highlighted awareness of key industry issues and the close ties with the international network of buyers that the show has built up. “We brought producers and buyers together in an intimate and relaxed setting so that they could get to know each other, tell each other about themselves and identify new opportunities for cooperation”, explains Exhibition Manager GianPaola Pedretti.

“Among the huge amount of information gathered”, she continues, “one consideration stood out above all others: the situation regarding the prolonged shutdown of Chinese and Asian production and logistical difficulties is now returning to normal, but what happened during the pandemic has prompted buyers from all over the world to diversify their sourcing. They have all found in Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags the ideal platform at which to make contact with a wide range of suppliers, something that, in their opinion, is not offered at any other show”.

We’re therefore back in the light, and Expo Riva Schuh & Gardabags has absolutely no intention of heading back into the dark again. Many concrete initiatives are already planned to further boost trade at the next edition from 17 to 20 June 2023, dedicated to spring/summer 2024.

The sneaker world

For Him and Her, the more purely sporty sneaker world focuses on shapes that tend to be structured in the low version, and on color and material combinations that harken back to the world of high-performance running trainers. The dominant shades are classic white, black, red, and blue. The more fashionable and urban proposals, on the other hand, opt for warm details such as shearling, fur and wool, metallics and animal inserts.

Only for lady

These are the most feminine proposals dedicated exclusively to women, dominated by ankle boots and a few high boots with high heels that tend to be structured and solid but also subtle. The colors are classic winter darks, but we also find touches of bright red, fuchsia and eye-catching metallics, while leather coexists with fabrics and suede.

Solid shapes

Also in the coming winter, solid, heavy and structured shapes dominate for ankle boots, but especially lace-ups and loafers, giving the footwear a distinctive look, in many cases emphasized by rubber and lugged bottoms in contrasting colors.

Evergreen classic

The men’s classic that we find at ERS remains firmly rooted in tradition, classic patterning (derbys, double straps, loafers, and a few ankle boots), beautiful leathers, English designs, aesthetic stitching, and neutral colors, although it does not give up the comfort of rubber bottoms and flexibility.

Casual for Him

For the man who does not want to opt for the sneaker with a decidedly sporty imprint, there are many casual options. We find sneakers with clean lines combined with noble leathers such as nappa leather or suede, for a more refined look, or loafers and especially chelsea or paraboot type ankle boots. City mountain boots

Still in vogue is the ‘mountain’ inspiration, with its iconic tank bottoms, drawstring lacing, technical lace-ups, knitted or wool details, padding, sheepskin and ‘down’ effects. Little does it matter then if they are city shoes, perhaps derived from the sneaker. On the contrary, flexibility and lightweight materials are also a priority here.

City warriors

This is the trend driving the winter 2023/24 for Him and Her: chelsea boots calf-length versions but above all military amphibians and boots with solid, full-bodied shapes, combined with tank and high-grip bottoms, and dominated by dark, neutral tones. However, the ‘city warriors’ inspiration does not give up maximum comfort thanks to soft leathers, ultra-lightweight bottoms, and zipper closures often combined with laces. For women, there is no shortage of classic-style knee-high boots with solid heels or reinforced bottoms.
