FOCUS ON GREEN FASHION ROMBAUT Born in 2013 as the eco-friendly-spirited brainchild of Mats Rombaut, the Belgian designer with collaborations to his name like Lanvin and Damir Doma. Beautiful like a sculpture, the brand’s footwear is made by hand in Portugal using vegetable-based luxury materials (like the bark of trees or apple skins), recycled fibres and high quality eco-leather, combining colours, shapes, and bold details. The ‘Boccaccio II Recycled Poster’, for example, features an upper made from recycled posters coming from the Rombaut showroom, while ‘Boccaccio II Recycled Acid’ is made from recycled fabric stock. Plus, there is ‘Boccaccio II Ski Shadow’, the sandal-sneaker featuring a chunky sole in thermoplastic biodegradable material with a ski buckle fastening. Nato nel 2013, dall’estro creativo dall’anima green di Mats Rombaut, designer belga con collaborazioni per Lanvin e Damir Doma. Le sue calzature belle come sculture e realizzate a mano in Portogallo utilizzano lussuosi materiali a base vegetale (come corteccia degli alberi o buccia di mela), fibre riciclate e pelle artificiale di alta qualità, che si uniscono a colori, forme e dettagli audaci. ID-EIGHT Fresh from its debut, this brand is the result of the meeting between Dong Seon Lee and Product Manager Giuliana Borzillo. ID stands for ‘identity’, while the number ‘eight’ embodies the infinite and accordingly the ability to regenerate and be eco-sustainable. ID-Eight, in fact, presents sneakers with a 90’s-styled minimalist design that is eco-sustainable and Made in Italy with materials of low environmental impact coming from industrial food discards like apple skins, grape skins, and pineapple leaves, but also recycled cotton and polyester. The two models, Hana and Duri, are both unisex. Inside each shoe box is a ‘seed bomb’ that can be planted in a vase or in a garden to attract bees for improved biodiversity. Fresco di debutto, nasce dall’incontro tra il designer Dong Seon Lee e la Product Manager Giuliana Borzillo. ID sta per ‘identità’ e ‘eight’ sta per otto, il numero che incarna l’infinito e quindi la capacità di rigenerarsi e l’eco-sostenibilità. ID-Eight firma, infatti, sneaker dal design minimalista anni 90 ma ecosostenibili, realizzate in Italia con materiali a basso impatto ambientale provenienti da scarti dell’industria alimentare come bucce di mela e di uva e foglie di ananas, ma anche cotone e poliestere riciclato. Due i modelli, tutti unisex, Hana e Duri. All’interno di ogni packaging è presente una ‘bomba di semi’, da piantare in vaso o da mettere in giardino per attrarre le api, per una biodiversità migliore.

CARLOTHA RAY Created this past spring by designer Antolina Mariela Schwarz Montiel, Carlotha Ray is a collection of footwear rife with poetry and grace, and skilfully conceived to respect people and the planet: flip-flops in Madagascar natural rubber matched with other natural materials like compostable rubber and natural dyes obtained from recycled vegetable materials like mint, eggshells, rice and vegetable oils. Every creation is made in Italy, with the aim of preserving the rich heritage of local communities. For the coming summer, the focus is on the poetic beauty of gardens, with blossoms in the pastel and delicate tones of an impressionist palette. Carlotha Ray è una collezione di calzature permeata di poesia e grazia, concepita consapevolmente per rispettare le persone e il pianeta e creata questa primavera dalla designer Antolina Mariela Schwarz Montiel: infradito in gomma naturale del Madagascar abbinata ad altri materiali naturali come gomma compostabile e coloranti naturali ottenuti da materiali vegetali riciclati come menta, guscio d’uovo, riso e oli vegetali. FREEDOM MOSES Celebrate the summer 365 days a year with light heartedness and well-being: this is the mission of Freedom Moses, the brand of washable, vegan, and perfumed slippers made with a new generation of sustainable and eco-compatible plastic. They are in fact made from 100% polycarbonate-urethane (PCU), a new material coming from China that is created by air blowing polyvinyl chloride (PVC). This “eco-PVC” has inherent sustainability characteristics made from rock salt and oil and contains less carbon than most major thermal plastics. PCU is also easily recyclable. The models available are inventive in the prints and colours proposed and are created for men, women, and children alike. Celebrare l’estate 365 giornii all’anno, con la sua spensieratezza e il suo benessere: questa la mission di Freedom Moses, brand di slipper lavabili, vegane e profumate, realizzate con una nuova generazione di plastica sostenibile ed eco-compatibile. Sono, infatti, realizzate al 100% con policarbonato-uretano (PCU), un nuovo materiale proveniente dalla Cina che viene creato soffiando aria nel cloruro di polivinile (PVC). Questo “eco-PVC” ha intrinseche caratteristiche di sostenibilità perché a base di salgemma e olio e contiene meno carbonio della maggior parte delle materie plastiche termiche. NOMADIC STATE OF MIND A desire for the seaside and freedom also characterises the new collection designed by Nomadic State of Mind, the brand from North Carolina first founded in the 90’s as the brainchild of Chris Anderson, who during his first years of activity, sold his handmade rope sandals from his 1969 VW van, which also served as his summer home, and at music festivals. Ever since, this ‘on the road’ brand has come a far way, but the nomadic and sustainable philosophy behind it has remained the same: comfortable and machine washable sandals artisanally made by a small community in Nicaragua with high quality rope and designed with knotted shapes to keep the foot in a correct position. Over the years, the sandals have been joined by bamboo, organic cotton, hemp, and RPET t-shirts, along with a range of artisanal products made from production discards, all in a pure hippie vintage-chic style. NOMASEI An ethical and timeless luxury: this is the essence of a brand created by Paule Tenaillon and Marine Braquetand, two designers with experience in working for leading international fashion houses of the calibre of Dior, Chloé, Jil Sander, Louis Vuitton, and Givenchy. They met in 2016 in a footwear production facility in Venice and decided to create their own brand of luxury sustainable footwear by using a transparent production process. A small luxury shoe factory in the town of Montopoli, in Tuscany, helped the idea of Nomasei take shape. Putting the final touch on this collaboration was Montopoli red, a red terracotta colour typically found in the hills of Tuscany and in the territory of Siena, and fané white, the colour of the marble found in Pompeii. ALLBIRDS It all began with wool. Tim Brown, native to New Zealand, had always appreciated the natural qualities of merino wool and so he began asking himself why in the footwear industry a resource as remarkable and sustainable as this one was almost completely absent. A few years later he met Joey Zwillinger, engineer and expert on renewable energies, and so together they gave life to Allbirds, a project based on a new and revolutionary wool fabric specifically made for footwear. The design in every collection is purposely simple, without invasive logos or useless details, and designed to convey maximum comfort. Superfine merino wool, which is breathable, temperature-regulating, and non-irritating, is combined with recycled plastic and castor bean oil for the insoles and with recycled cardboard for the packaging. The company is neutralizing its environmental impact in production, offsetting it by 110%, by investing in projects like Green Tree Reforestation and in new materials with a low plastic content and with a greater percentage of recycled content. Aera was among the first companies to develop materials that are 100% free of solvents (composed exclusively of water-based resins).
