WHAT ARE THE NEW TRENDS IN COSMETIC SURGERY? Hamilton Surgical Arts and Happy Clinic Indy
With increasingly faster lifestyles, demands for minimal downtime and a desire for quick results, cosmetic surgery is undergoing a transformation. Many new techniques and modalities have been introduced in the past few years. This article will discuss a few of those. According to new research, here are a few of the new techniques.
Face: Until the past few years, if you wanted a smaller, straighter, smoother nose your only option was a surgery, known as a rhinoplasty. With the rise of injectable fillers came an off label use capable of transforming your nose in under 15 minutes. Working with the same hyaluroinc acid gels used to fill

your lips and elevate your cheeks, a cosmetic surgeon can correct curves, lumps, depressions and bumps to make your nose appear smaller, straighter and more symmetric. The fillers last from 1 to 5 years depending on the filler chosen. This has been titled by many as "the nonsurgical nose job."
Minimally invasive procedures to tighten and rejuvenate the face and neck have been developed. Two of those are the Silhouette Instalyft which uses unique cone thread technology. This in-office procedure has a dual effect on the midface. It lifts the deeper layers and then gradually adds volume by stimulating the regeneration of type 1 and type 3 collagen. The second is a non-surgical neck lift which is accomplished using subdermal J-plasma skin tightening and a non-invasive lift with fixation. J-Plasma facial resurfacing, utilizing a combination of radiofrequency and helium to create a resurfacing and skin tightening, is the latest in skin rejuvenation of the face. "WITH INCREASINGLY FASTER LIFESTYLES, DEMANDS FOR MINIMAL DOWNTIME AND A DESIRE FOR QUICK RESULTS, COSMETIC SURGERY IS UNDERGOING A TRANSFORMATION."
Body: The latest technology, J-Plasma, utilizes helium and radio-frequency under the skin to create a plasma that causes contraction of the skin, allowing surgeons a method to obtain better results in body and extremity contouring. The procedure is accomplished subcutaneously with J-Plasma. This has decreased in many cases the need for skin resection. The newest method of fat transfer to buttocks and breasts utilizes carbon dioxide in combination with a suction device to enhance creation of space and better survival of the transplanted fat. The results have been superior. Vaginal rejuvenation with profractional lasers such as V-Lase have gained popularity. The procedure is accomplished in the office with minimal to no discomfort. Breast: The newest breast implant Mentors Memory Gel Xtra offers a rare combination of more firm feel while maintaining an overall
natural softness. In a recent blinded comparison nine out of ten consumers chose these implants as more natural (or real) breasts. These are just a few of the new modalities available to keep that youthful or more desired appearance. For more information or a complimentary consultation, call 317-773-6677. By Robert F. Help them Make Waves in Life! by Andrew Joseph, Area Manager, Goldfish Swim School – Carmel & Fishers Everyone knows that swimming is one of the best ways to get exercise and stay active. At Goldfish Swim School, our lessons occur once per week, year-round, to teach kids how to be safer in and around the water. As important as that is (and it’s so very important!), we also know it can be so much more. Have you ever noticed how quickly kids pick up new skills when they’re playing a game or with their friends? As a dad, I know I’ve seen this happen with my own kids – have you stopped to think about why? As the Area Manager at Goldfish Swim School, I can tell you why – because we’ve done the research. Science says kids build upon their cognitive growth by two things: Learning through guided play and doing so in a safe environment.
stuff while you’re focused on the fun… it’s all part of The Science of SwimPlay®. We build up confidence with each new skill acquired, and kids can proudly show off their award ribbon when they see their extraordinary results. Because we know, as parents, how much pride you feel watching your kids accomplish new skills – and we want to celebrate, too! Everything we do is done specifically to help kids grow in and out of the water. Our instructors use guided play to do so in a fun way so it becomes second nature. And luckily for us, everything points to kids being able to learn the most through play…which we have down pat.
Goldfish has built our holistic philosophy upon this fact and we incorporate it into everything we do. It’s what we call The Science of SwimPlay®. We’ve created an environment where kids can feel safe. Our locations are specifically designed with a fun, colorful tropical décor, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere. The water in our pools is always set at a balmy 90 degrees – meaning no shivers or purple lips, and no trepidation about jumping into a cold pool. We’ve built our curriculum in such a way that kids don’t even realize how much they’re learning; they’re only focused on how much FUN they’re having! And so are the parents. We want all of you to have a GOLDEN experience each and every time you step through our doors. We focus on the serious learning

REFOCUS AND RENEW "Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself." George Bernard Shaw
Self-Care – are you hearing the buzz about self-care? Do you feel like self-care is a selfish term – something you wouldn’t feel good about? Let’s reconsider. When you practice Self-Care you are making it a priority to take care of yourself. We take care of our families and friends and that is an amazing calling that we “get to do”. It’s the love, caring and serving others that brings nurturing and love to the forefront of who we are. But what happens when we put our own needs aside? Stress, dissatisfaction with living out our life’s purpose, physical issues, and knowing we are
not our best selves. This can give us a feeling of being off balance. Is it time to refocus and renew? You could start by evaluating your life balance. One tool that coaches use is the Wheel of Life Assessment*. It looks like a wheel with spokes, a scale of 1-10, with 1 in the center and 10 on the outside of the circle. You identify approximately 8 key areas of your life, i.e. spiritual, financial, career, family and friends, health and fitness, growth and development, fun and recreation, etc. Based on the areas you select,
how would you rate your satisfaction on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being totally satisfied and 1 being very dissatisfied? Take those ratings and draw those points on the wheel. From this visual representation, think about what the ideal would be. This exercise can help you identify what’s going really well and where the gaps are. You can re-prioritize: map out what you would like to change, set goals and implement action plans. It can be an empowering experience that gives you a new sense of renewal and forward motion. You can start regaining balance that makes you your best!

T
o Josh Freedman, cycling isn’t just a business, it’s a lifestyle and commitment to a community he’s called home for nearly two decades. Carmel residents, Josh and his wife, Janet, are owners of Pedego Carmel electric bikes at 254 1st Ave. SW, Suite E, in the Arts & Design District. Pedego, which stands for “Pedal-electric-go,” is the #1 electric bike company in the United States.
“I love sharing Pedego electric bikes with our community. Whether you’re looking for green transportation or a recreational activity, electric bikes are fun and great exercise.”
22
A L M | APRIL 2018
“I’ve always loved riding my bike,” Josh says. “To me cycling represents freedom. But I never liked going up hills. Riding an electric bike is like having no hills at all. When I first bought an electric bike, I thought it was a cool concept, but what I didn’t realize then is that electric bikes would change my life." Electric bikes? What are those you may ask? Electric bikes are just like regular bikes, except they come with a battery and a motor that let riders charge up hills and breeze through headwinds. Riders have the option to pedal with as much or as little assistance as they want. Pedego electric bikes provide riders with

Pedal Assist that provides assistance as the rider pedals. Most models also feature a twist-and-go throttle that provides immediate power, great for zooming up hills or through intersections. The electric assistance lets riders go longer, farther and faster, at speeds up to 20 MPH. For the green-minded individual, electric bikes are a great alternative to cars for commuting to work. It’s a lot less expensive than a car since there’s no gas, insurance, registration or license required. It also lets commuters zip around traffic and avoid parking hassles. In fact, in some cities, a cyclist can actually make it to work faster than driving due to gridlock traffic. A bonus is they can arrive at work refreshed and not sweaty. Because it’s electric, riders can choose the level of exercise they get. Many moms are choosing Pedego’s Stretch cargo bike to take their kids to school, do errandsaround town and commute to work. Because they can ride right up to the school, they avoid waiting in long lines to drop off and pick up kids. Plus, they are the cool moms with fun,

“Plus, it makes you look and feel good,” Josh adds.
“Electric bikes let riders enjoy exercise disguised as fun. You can get as much or as little exercise as you’d like,” Josh says. “The best part of electric bikes is that it gets people outside, having a good time.”
Josh loves being a part of the community, helping his customers discover the joys of electric cycling. In its first year of business, the store has had an overwhelmingly positive response from the community.
With their electric assistance, electric bikes obviously appeal to adults 50+. However, according to Josh, electric biking is perfect for all ages. Pedego even offers smaller electric bikes for kids. With the bikes’ electric assistance, couples and families can easily ride together, regardless of skill levels. Pedego’s trike lets seniors and those with balance issues go along for the ride.
“Our customers regularly tell us that they bought their bikes for fun and found that the bikes transformed their lives in healthy ways,” Josh says. “I feel good bringing a product to our community that is improving lives and making our customers feel great.”
Electric biking gets people out riding who have difficulty riding traditional pedal bikes. It’s the choice of riders who have had injuries or people with chronic illnesses. In fact, it’s not uncommon for customers with hip and knee replacements and even cancer survivors to benefit from the positive experience of electric biking. Athletes who have been injured appreciate the ability to exercise and train at their own pace on electric bikes. “As you get older, people are looking for ways to stay active,” Josh says. “That passion for cycling never goes away. It’s perfect for anyone – with or without health issues.” Electric cycling gives riders the benefits of regular cycling, including helping them lose weight and get fit. Cycling also reduces the risk of disease and helps boost immunity. Reducing stress, alleviating mild depression and anxiety are added benefits.

Originally from Indianapolis’ northside, Josh moved to Carmel in 2000 with his wife, Janet. They’ve raised their two kids, ages 16 and 14, here and are devoted to Carmel’s healthy active lifestyle. In addition to owning and running their Pedego Electric Bikes store, they are both involved in keeping fit. Janet is a Pilates instructor. Josh, always an active guy, was a competitive soccer player and is now a level 1 CrossFit instructor. Their kids are involved in cheerleading, lacrosse and tumbling. “Electric bikes have changed our lives,” Josh says. “It’s about lifestyle, fitness and fun, and I’m proud to support our bicyclefriendly city.” CYCLING IN CARMEL Recognized as a bronze level Bicycle Friendly City by the League of American Bicyclists, the city of Carmel has 200 miles of high-quality bike trails, including the Monon Trail. There’s also the Carmel Access Bikeways,
a network of routes and other pathways linking city streets, and the expanding Midtown section of Carmel. Pedego Carmel, with its wide selection of 14 different models of electric bikes, sits at the epicenter of this activity in the Arts & Design District. As the only place in Central Indiana for electric bikes, Pedego Carmel is at the leading edge of a growing trend. In fact, one of Carmel’s most famous residents, Mayor James Brainard, is a Pedego customer. Mayor Brainard has long been a champion of creating a bike culture in the city he loves. “Mayor Brainard was recently involved in an organized bike ride,” Josh says. “Police, firefighters, city council, everyone was there riding bikes. He’s creating a bicycle friendly future for our community.” This year, the city and Pedego Carmel are partnering up to add seven to 20-mile cycling tours of historic landmarks. In addition, Josh says they are going to hold bike to work tours. “Biking to work is sustainability for the future, and electric bikes give more people the ability to commute to work by bike. Electric bikes are changing lives by letting people do what they didn’t realize was possible until they tried one and found delight in the freedom. Cycling makes our city a better place and electric bikes make it possible for everyone to enjoy riding bikes.”

MEXICAN DISTINCTION To Paul Arechiga, opening a new Mexican restaurant isn’t just about expanding his heritage, it’s an opportunity to further put down roots in an area that’s become his home. Paul, owner of Verde Flavors of Mexico, resides in Fishers and recently opened his newest venture in Carmel last September. He also operates restaurants in Fishers and Avon. But it’s this latest expansion that’s a bit unique. In addition to being “one of the best cities in the country,” the most recent Verde has the only tequila bar of Paul’s restaurant empire. As Paul confidently declares, it’s the “biggest tequila bar in town.” Verde’s “biggest bar in town” features a variety of quality tequila, including a special partnership with Patron, even though Paul’s favorite type of tequila is Herradura. The partnership with Patron is a unique arrangement where they have access to Patron’s fields and distilleries back in Mexico. A partnership like this allows Verde to feature different tequila cocktails with food items each month in a four-course meal. For example, in March Verde offered a menu featuring Patron inspired cocktails flavorly paired with flat frilled mano shrimp, fried house empanadas, cochinita pibil and a Ferrero rocher stuffed fried ice cream with Kalua chocolate patron sauce. For Cinco de Mayo, Paul couldn’t quite say at this time what menu or tequila would be featured, but promised it would live up to the high expectations of their customers. “Whatever it is, we’re happy to explain to our customers how things are made, why it’s special,” Paul says. What is for sure certain, Paul says, is Verde will celebrate the holiday with a special event including live music, outside tents and margaritas. “I enjoy transmitting our food, our hometown to a place like Carmel,” Paul says cheerfully. “We enjoy trying to take care of every detail. We brought everything from Mexico. Everything is handmade including the furniture, glasses, etc.” Paul says.

Where is home? Paul hails from Guadalajara, Mexico and has been a resident of Fishers since 2010. Guadalajara, one of the largest cultural centers in Mexico, is famous for being the home of mariachi music. Paul left Mexico for Yorkville, Illinois where his family operated restaurants. It was during this time he learned the ropes of the industry. He worked in his family owned restaurants for eight years, “starting at the bottom” as he puts it. He worked anything from dishwasher, server, manager, to becoming an owner himself. While in Illinois, he would occasionally visit an uncle in Fishers who owned a restaurant, working there for a time. He moved to Fishers permanently in 2013 when he took over the restaurant from his uncle. This restaurant, named “Friacos” at the time, was rebranded into Verde. Verde, is Spanish for “green” or “fresh.” The name is apparent throughout the menu with multiple selections of fajitas, quesadillas, chimichangas, enchiladas, chipotles, and burritos. “We are truly an authentic Mexican restaurant,” Paul says. “People have the concept of a Mexican restaurant as more like Tex-Mex, but we have fresh ingredients, better ingredients and most are local.” Paul is quick to dismiss such stereotypes. Whereas Tex-mex is a fusion of American and Mexican cuisine, with prominence in Texas and northern Mexico, Verde seeks to offer more local flare. For example, Paul says they go into towns in Mexico for new recipes and inspiration. “I love tacos because they’re so Mexican, they’re so easy to eat,” Paul says. “We also have ceviche and other seafood that adds to our local focus.” 28

I enjoy the customers, talking to them.” He also points out, while Fishers is home, the Carmel Verde has more of a fine dining, formal aura. This fits perfectly with Carmel’s demographics and wider appeal to the up-andcoming downtown area.
However, as owner, Paul is quick not to take too much credit for his latest endeavor. His humility and modesty are inspiring. “I’m not a chef,” he says. “I feel like I’m part of the team. I don’t like think of myself as ‘just an owner.’ I like to think I’m the same old guy I’ve always been."
Paul’s team at Verde is truly a family affair. Cousins, four brothers, his wife, and even his mom and dad are part of the team. Most of the time, Paul says he spends upward of six days a week at the Carmel location. 30

PAL-V. The First Commercial Flying Car The Age of Flying Cars
As Dutch company Pal-V unveils its latest flying car, the gyrocopter, at the Geneva motor show, March 2018, we ask if the dream of flying cars for all could ever become a reality. "007 was here" says the graffiti emblazoned on the wall of Pal-V's stand at March 2018. The Dutch company has just launched its first flying car on to the market. It's a compact three-wheeler, which it says can offer sporty performance on the road then take to the air using a set of extendable rotors. So, is this a sign that air travel is about to get a whole lot more accessible, or will devices like this never be more than play things for the rich? The car is called the Liberty. In flying terms, it is what's known as an auto-gyro, or gyrocopter.

Comply with existing regulations The key element in developing a commercially viable flying car is that it complies with existing regulations. This not only makes sure that the flying car is absolutely safe, but also that the owner can safely enjoy the ride and above all the flight.
How it works It is inscribed in our brain that when we see rotating blades, we think of a helicopter. The PAL-V is not a helicopter. In flying mode, the PAL-V is a gyroplane. The difference? The rotor of the helicopter is powered by an engine. The blades of the PAL-V are not powered. They are powered by the wind. As long there is airflow they rotate. They act like a continuously open parachute.
