Scholarship Guide: Studying in Australia
SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDY IN AUSTRALIA
The International Undergraduate Scholarships were established by the University of Melbourne in recognition of the significant contribution made by international students to the diversity of the university’s student population.
ELIGIBILITY: This scholarship is open to citizens of countries other than Australia and New Zealand and are not a permanent resident of Australia; Applicants must have received an unconditional offer for an undergraduate course and must have achieved excellent final year school results. AWARD: The University awards around 30 scholarships with a $10,000 tuition fee remission in the first year of an undergraduate degree and around 10 scholarships with a 100% tuition fee remission for the normal full-time duration of an undergraduate degree. Students who have accepted a $10,000 fee remission scholarship will also be considered for a 100% fee remission scholarship. DEADLINE: No application is required. ADELAIDE SCHOLARSHIPS INTERNATIONAL (ASI)
The University of Adelaide offers Adelaide Scholarships International (ASI) to attract high quality overseas postgraduate students to areas of research strength in the University of Adelaide to support its research efforts.
ELIGIBILITY: This scholarship is open to international (excluding Australian/New Zealand citizens and Australian Permanent Residents) students who have successfully completed at least the equivalent of an Australian First Class Honors degree. Generally applicants who succeed in winning an ASI scholarship have completed a master’s degree including a significant research component and have several publications and relevant work and research experience. AWARD: Recipients will be awarded course tuition fees for two years for a master’s degree by research and three years for a doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only); an annual living allowance ($28,092 in 2020) for two years for a master’s degree by research and three years for a doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only). AUSTRALIA AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS
Australia Awards Scholarships are long term development awards administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. They aim to contribute to the long term development needs of Australia’s partner countries in line with bilateral and regional agreements.
ELIGIBILITY: This scholarship is open to international students from Asia, Pacific, Africa and Middle East. For full eligibility requirements, click here. AWARD: Recipients will be awarded tuition fees, travel allowance, contribution to living expenses, text books and study materials. DEADLINE: 30 June 2020 depending on the country of the applicant. The Australian Government Research Training Program (AGRTP) Scholarships (International) are specifically intended to support international students to undertake a research higher degree at Flinders University.
ELIGIBILITY: For full eligibility requirements, click here. AWARD: Recipients will be awarded tuition fees charged by Flinders University for a research higher degree, as well as a living allowance paid at the rate of $28,092 (2020 rate). DEADLINE: 7 August 2020. Learn more here.
The Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship provides a partial tuition fee scholarship for outstanding students to study at Macquarie University North Ryde campus.

LA TROBE COLLEGE EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPS
The La Trobe College Excellence Scholarship (CES) is a scholarship available to international students to cover tuition fees for high-achieving international students accepted into their undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs.
ELIGIBILITY: This scholarship is open to citizens of a country other than Australia or New Zealand who are applying to start an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program in 2020. AWARD: Recipients will be awarded between 15%, 20% and 25% deduction on annual tuition fees for the duration of their studies and are limited in number. DEADLINE: The deadline varies depending on the scholarship. Learn more here.
MONASH INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
The Monash University Scholarship program offers over 200 scholarships for new and current students.
ELIGIBILITY: This scholarship is open to students who meet the following requirements: Applicants must be an international student; commencing a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate (coursework) degree at a Monash campus in Australia (you must have received a full Monash course offer); must not be the recipient of any other scholarships, grants or financial incentives funded by Monash University or be sponsored by other bodies/institutions. Learn more here. AWARD: Recipients will be awarded 100% course fees paid until the minimum number of points for their degree are completed (excludes OSHC, accommodation and living costs). The RTP provides block grants, on a calendar year basis, to higher education providers (HEPs) to support both domestic and overseas students undertaking research doctorate and research master’s degrees, known as higher degrees by research (HDRs).
ELIGIBILITY: This scholarship is open to domestic or overseas students enrolled in an accredited HDR course of study at an Australian HEP. Applications for RTP Scholarships need to be made directly to participating universities. Each university has its own application and selection process, please contact your chosen university. AWARD: Recipients will be awarded up to $43,110 AUD depending on the program and financial need. DEADLINE: The deadline varies per university but is around April-October each year. International Student Academic Merit Scholarship rewards high achieving international students applying for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs at Griffith University.
ELIGIBILITY: You have to be a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand, have a minimum GPA in previous studies of 5.0 to 5.49 on a 7 point scale or equivalent, satisfy all academic and English language entry requirements for your chosen undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program, and be a full-time student starting in either Trimester 3 2020, or Trimester 1, 2 or 3 2021. AWARD: 20% of tuition fees for the entire degree. DEADLINE: Simply apply to study a program at Griffith University and they will evaluate if you are eligible. Learn more here.
This scholarship is funded by the University of Sydney and provides tuition fees offset and stipend to high quality international postgraduate students who wish to enrol in or are currently enrolled in a research degree here.
ELIGIBILITY: The receipient must be be a commencing or enrolled international student who has an outstanding record of academic achievement and research potential and have an unconditional offer of admission or be currently enrolled in a master’s by research or PhD at the University of Sydney. AWARD: For 2020 awards, the scholarship is valued at $35,000 per annum. The scholarship assists with OSHC, tuition fees and living costs. DEADLINE: Applications are open all year round.
