SMALL SCALE ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT

2

OBJECTIVES: 1.To introduce an analytical process for taking something apar t “and looking at it

from inside” 2.To practice use of the tools with which architect s make drawings. 3.To introduce aspects of critical thinking in design, including visual / spatial thinking, speculative explorat ion, critical ref lection, and iterative study. 4.To consider compositional relationships in two dimensions as well as their suggest ions of the third dimension / thickness, space and depth. 5.To learn to fur ther appreciate line quality, line consistency, line weight and

grey tones in the ser vice of visual / spatial thinking. 3

RESEARCH AND PREPARATION

-

-

1 - Painting Analysis: 4 weeks sketching analytical drawing f inished set of cards documenting the analysis

2 - Translating the Analysis analytical collage [beginning analyzing and modeling] contour and planar modeling direction f inished site model and site translation

from 2d to a 3d site: 4 weeks to “thicken” the space of a “f lat” painting; alternatives for a site; establishing nor th plan / sections drawings documenting the

presentation set of diagram s, drawings, diagram model and descriptive model 4 – developing interior spaces through the study of light, views, human activity scale, and furnishing: 3 weeks 5

FINAL

FINAL REVIEW that present s the process from beginning to end, for developing the work, as well as the presentation set of diagram s, drawings, diagram model and descript ive model. This presentat ion is also given, as a printed PowerPoint , in the form of an A -4 por tfolio, to the faculty, who can use it for evaluation / grading

LANDSCAPE AND MOCK MODELS

HYBRID ITEMS - Drink ware - Duchy handle

- Clip clamp

8

DRINK WARE Redraw these produces from 3D to 2D and make them to the basic form

9

DUCHY HANDLE Explore its symmetrical characteristic

10

CLIP CLAMP Analyze each section forming and multiple ways of representing the lamp

HYBRID PRODUCTS Combine 3 given items with different positions 12

FUNCTION - Site approach - Threshold - Repose - Serving tea - Reading

MAIN SITE APPOARCH

35

DOOR TO THE GARDEN

The door connect directly to the threshold, so people don’t have to go thought another space to go the garden 36

ELEVATION

Height: - human: 1m7

- Door: 2m6 - First floor and second floor: 3m5 - Third floor: 3m 37

Private circulation Public circulation

Second floor

Serving tea

-

Serving tea is public space

- With this allocation, people

can go to balcony and garden without disturbing others 44

Reading

Third floor

The stairs are separated from the reading area to reduce noise from footsteps 45

LIGHT Repose space: With small window,

not much light enter this space ( natural semi-darkness )

- Light in the morning - Light in the afternoon 46

filtered and northfacing natural light to reduce glare
