People "Saturday in the Park" chosen as theme for Veiled Prophet parade Barry "Greg Brady" Williams to serve as grand marshal For The Edge
I
n keeping with St. Louis Independence Day tradition, the 133rd Veiled Prophet (VP) parade will once again step off on July 4. Themed “Saturday in the Park,” in celebration of historic parks across the United States, the 150-unit parade will begin at the Upper Muny parking lot at 9:45 a.m. and wind its way through Forest Park. Serving as Honorary Grand Marshal for 2015 will be Barry Williams, who played Greg Brady on the hit TV series The Brady Bunch.
This year ’s parade will be highlighted by a number of other exciting activities, including the first-ever wedding on one of the floats. Parade Town, the VP Parade’s entertainment venue located at the Forest Park Boathouse, will also offer up a variety of interactive features, such as the Yoga Experience sponsored by Athleta at the World’s Fair Pavilion and the Stars and Spikes Volleyball Tournament sponsored by the Missouri Athletic Club, along with a host of non-stop family friendly fun. In announcing the details for this year, Parade Grand Marshal Kenneth J. Mallin said, “We’re thrilled to bring Barry Williams to St. Louis as the Honorary Grand Marshal of our 133rd Parade. Barry’s TV and stage performances have entertained millions, and he brings his enthusiasm and energy to America’s Biggest Birthday Parade! Add in the real life wedding and everything else we have planned, and this Independence Day Celebration promises to be one for the memory books.” Other floats in the lineup will include the “Rock ‘N Roll” float, which will feature performances from Dance Productions Unlimited; and the “Rescue Me” float, which will feature a performance from local vocalist Rochelle “Coco Soul” Walker. In total, musical and dance highlights to be seen along the Parade route will include more than 300 performers on 13 floats, along with 14 marching bands from Missouri, Illinois and Minnesota. Many larger-thanlife helium balloons also will be included. Through a partnership with Hermann Hill Weddings, St. Louis’ Best Bridal, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Parade spectators will get to witness an actual wedding ceremony on a specially-designed float, aptly named “I Do, I Do, I Do.” From now through June 7th, area engaged couples can visit www. STLToday.com and enter a contest for the chance to be wed on the float. The winning pair will not only receive a once-in-a-lifetime

Missouri History Museum unveils new exhibit For The Edge
O
ne of the most amazing maps of a city ever created was Compton & Dry’s “Pictorial St. Louis,” drawn in 1875 and published in 1876. Using this incredibly detailed cartographic masterpiece as its backdrop, the Missouri History Museum developed A Walk in 1875 St. Louis, a 6,000 square-foot exhibition that explores the collective life of 1875 St. Louis through photographs, artifacts, news, writings and first hand accounts of the day.
For The Edge
Photos from the exhibit include those of the Eads Bridge, at top, and the store owned by William Barr, a precurser to Famous-Barr.
“We wanted to create an exhibition that looks so closely at one single year in St. Louis’ history that people could imagine they were actually there,” said Andrew Wanko, public historian for the Missouri History Museum and content lead for A Walk in 1875 St. Louis. “Compton & Dry’s ‘Pictorial St. Louis’ provides the perfect visual stage for us to create this immersive experience for our visitors.” The exhibit runs now through Feb. 14. In 1874, Richard Compton, a St. Louis sheet music publisher, and Camille Dry, a wandering mechanical draftsman, teamed up on a task that sounds impossible – draw every single home, building, street, and even tree in St. Louis in accurate perspective. The result was “Pictorial St. Louis,” the largest pictorial map of any city in the 19th century. The entire map at its original size requires 300 square feet of space to lay out. In A Walk in 1875 St. Louis, the maps are blown up at a scale never before seen, allowing visitors to see every detail. Producing these larger-thanlife versions of the map enables visitors to walk amongst Gilded Age St. Louis in their minds and see everything from the lavish opulence to the crowded tenements. The large images of the map are complemented by vivid and expressive graphics that explore all aspects of life in 1875, from crime to cooking and sports to city infrastructure. The Missouri History Museum’s exhibit team worked with freelance artist Dan Zettwoch to create these graphic panels that illustrate the complex and often surprising world hidden in the map’s landscape. Through “Pictorial St. Louis,” graphic panels, photographs and artifacts from the Missouri Historical Society’s collection, A Walk in 1875 St. Louis shows visitors daily life in 1875. Topics
explored include the great divorce of St. Louis City and County, the brewing industry, the Whiskey Ring scandal, fashion, middle class home life, destitute life, water and waste, and much more. Visitors will discover places that are gone from the city’s landscape such as the Social Evil Hospital, Tony Faust’s Oyster House, and the five-story mansion known as the “Cracker Castle.” They’ll also rediscover some places that still exist today such as Lafayette Square, Forest Park, and the Old Post Office. Some familiar places looked startlingly different in 1875, like the Old Cathedral surrounded by a bustling riverfront and Tower Grove Park surrounded by nothing but pastureland. This ambitious exhibition, created by the Missouri History Museum’s exhibition team and centered on the Missouri Historical Society’s collection of artifacts, strives to transport its visitors back in time to a different St. Louis. A Walk in 1875 St. Louis is open May 30, 2015 through February 14, 2016 at the Missouri History Museum, located in Forest Park. Admission to is free. The Missouri History Museum has been active in the St. Louis community since 1866. Founding members established the organization “for the purpose of saving from oblivion the early history of the city and state.” Today, the Missouri History Museum seeks to deepen the understanding of past choices, present circumstances, and future possibilities; strengthen the bonds of the community; and facilitate solutions to common problems. Due to its innovative approach to public service, the Missouri History Museum was the first recipient of the Institute of Museum and Library Services National Award for Museum Services in 1994. The Missouri History Museum offers programs and outreach services, including traveling exhibitions; tours; theatrical and musical presentations; programs for school classes and youth groups; family festivals; special events; workshops; and lectures. The Missouri History Museum is funded by the St. Louis City and County taxpayers through the Metropolitan Zoological Park and Museum District and by private donations. The Museum is open seven days a week with general admission always free. The Missouri History Museum in Forest Park also operates the Library and Research Center at 225 South Skinker Boulevard near the Washington University campus.

DuQuoin State Fair to host Ford, Adkins
State Fair Manager, Patrick Buchen announced recently the first of many entertainment acts for the upcoming 2015 DuQuoin State Fair. O n S a t u rd a y, A u g u s t 2 9 t h Colt Ford brings a unique blend of country and hip-hop to the Grandstand stage. A one-time pro golfer turned singer-songwriter, Colt Ford has found a growing fan base thanks to songs like “Drivin’ Around Song,” “Crank It Up,” and musical collaborations with country music superstars like Keith Urban, and Justin Moore. Ford also helped pen hits for Jason Aldean (“Dirt Road Anthem”) and Brantley Gilbert (“Country Must be Country Wide”).
On Sunday, August 30th Trace Adkins will perform for fairgoers on the Grandstand stage. Best known for his songs “Ladies Love Country Boys,” and “You’re Gonna Miss This,” Trace Adkins has powered countless hits to the top of the charts and sold over 10 million albums. Adkins is a proud spokesperson for the Wounded Warrior Program and American Red Crossor whom he raised over $1.5 million dollars as winner of NBC’s All-Star Celebrity Apprentice. Ticket prices for Saturday’s show will range from $15-$20, and tickets for Sunday’s show will range from $20-$25. “The DuQuoin State Fair staff is committed to bringing in quality acts to the Grandstand stage,” said Buchen. “Colt Ford and Trace Adkins are big names in country music, and tickets to their shows at other regional venues would likely be double the price of a show here in
DuQuoin. We are very excited to offer this quality of performance an d th is amazin g savings to fairgoers.” Tickets for these shows will go
on sale later this summer. Look for more DuQuoin State Fair announcements in the weeks and months ahead. The DuQuoin State Fair runs August 28-September 7th.

Religion Religion briefs Relatives of Americans in Iran press for their release
WASHINGTON (AP) — Relatives of four Americans held in Iran are calling on the Obama administration to do more to press for their release during negotiations with Tehran on a nuclear deal. The wife of American pastor Saeed Abedini said negotiators should "help bring my husband home before you consent to any deal." Joining her Tuesday at a congressional hearing were relatives of FBI agent Robert Levinson, Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian and former U.S. Marine Amir Hekmati. Republican Congressman Matt Salmon said that in the nuclear negotiations with Iran he would insist that "any deal is dead without the release of these prisoners." Naghmeh Abedini said her husband, who has been held almost three years, has resisted pressure to deny his Christian faith despite threats and abuse. After the relatives' testimony, the House Foreign Affairs

France awaits Vatican word on ambassador said to be gay
Congregation at oldest U.S. synagogue felt 'blackmailed'
PARIS (AP) — The French government is expecting the Vatican to decide within days whether to approve the nomination of a respected diplomat who is said to be gay as French ambassador to the Holy See. Paris is hoping that Laurent Stefanini wins approval five months after the French presidential palace submitted his nomination. The French government is awaiting a response via Vatican diplomatic channels within a week to 10 days, a French official told The Associated Press. The Vatican spokesman declined to comment. Gay rights groups have accused the Vatican of delaying a decision because of Stefanini's sexual orientation. Such decisions normally take just a few weeks.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A board member of the congregation that worships at the oldest synagogue in the U.S. says they felt "blackmailed" by the nation's first Jewish congregation in a dispute over the sale of ceremonial bells for $7 million. Lawsuits over control of Newport's Touro Synagogue are being heard in federal court in Rhode Island. David Bazarsky said Tuesday the congregation agreed to sell the bells to a museum only because they'd be on display to the public, and they wanted an endowment so Touro could operate in perpetuity. Touro is owned by New York's Congregation Shearith Israel. Newport says it acts only as trustee.

QuickGlance Movie Reviews
"Poltergeist"
It's infrequent and particularly satisfying when the remake of an especially memorable film equals or exceeds the experience of the original. In 1982, "Poltergeist" saw the brilliant pairing of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's" lowbudget horror director Tobe Hooper with far more mainstream screenwriter and producer Steven Spielberg for an effectsladen event movie that earned its place as a contemporary benchmark among supernatural thrillers. Leaving behind the youth-skewing perspectives of "Monster House" and "City of Ember," director Gil Kenan not only delivers on the promise of Hooper's "Poltergeist," but significantly raises the stakes for similar PG-13 fare. In setting the scene, Kenan and the filmmakers take their cue from the first film in the trilogy, as Eric (Sam Rockwell) and Amy (Rosemarie DeWitt) Bowen, crippled by the financial impacts of the Great Recession, look to downsize so that they can continue adequately providing for their three kids. They find what they're looking for in a distressed but affordable home for sale that's located in a nondescript development full of vacant properties on the outskirts of an Illinois town where Amy attended university. Youngest daughter Maddy (Kennedi Clements) is excited to move in following the initial tour after conversing with some new invisible friends who speak to her from a mysterious bedroom closet. Anxiety-prone middle child Griffin (Kyle Catlett) isn't thrilled to be settling into an attic bedroom, however, where an ominous willow tree looms over the house through a rooftop skylight. Teenage Kendra (Saxon Sharbino) displays visible disaffection with her new situation, preferring to remain in touch with her old life and friends via phone, text and video chat. On the first night in their new home while everyone else is asleep, Griffin discovers Maddy talking to the big-screen living room TV as it flashes and emits strange noises. "They're here," she says, referring to her friends, "the lost people." Now Griffin has some solid reasons to feel worried, especially after noticing objects moving around the house of their own accord and discovering a box full of scary clown dolls stashed in a storage space. His parents just attribute these trepidations to his chronic anxiety and it isn't until the next night when they're out to dinner at a neighbor's house that they discover some disturbing information regarding their new home that sends them rushing back to check on the kids. RATED: PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for "intense frightening sequences, brief suggestive material, and some language." RUNNING TIME: 93 minutes. ASSOCIATED PRESS RANKING: No ranking.
"San Andreas"
It's sure been a rough year for Hollywood. First there was the stinging Sony hacking scandal. And now we have the humbling image of the Hollywood letters themselves toppling to the ground, as most of California is pulverized by an earthquake — make that earthquakes, plural — in "San Andreas." If those letters toppling sounds like a pretty obvious image, well, duh. Everything in "San Andreas," which stars Dwayne Johnson and his amazing musculature as a powerful-yet-sweet rescue pilot, is obvious, over-the-top, and occasionally laughout-loud cheesy. But really, you weren't expecting Ingmar Bergman, were you? Summer's upon us, and you could do worse than watch the undeniably appealing Johnson try to save the day while uttering the silliest dialogue imaginable. Plus, if you live far from the West Coast, there's the juicy schadenfreude factor — though we can count on the inevitable sequel ("San Andreas 2: Eastward," perhaps?) to fix that. The movie, directed by Brad Peyton, declares itself proudly from the start. We begin as a winsome blonde lass drives her car off the road and finds herself dangling on a cliff.

"Aloha"
Cameron Crowe loves a good failure story, and specifically what happens after a disastrous fall from the top. If Crowe were a character in his own film, the fiasco of "Aloha," and nearly all of his post-"Almost Famous" movies, would provide the perfect intro. Unfortunately, "Aloha" is not part of some larger redemption narrative for Crowe (at least not yet). It's just another fascinating mess from an earnest and occasionally excellent filmmaker who can't seem to recreate the enveloping magic and charm of his earlier films. It's an unfair standard for anyone, but it's hard not to hope for the best from Crowe, even if his past few films have taught us otherwise. "Aloha" was cut off at its knees from the start as one of the unwitting victims of criticism from sharp-toothed executives in last year's Sony hack, leaving Crowe fans wondering just how bad the film could be. After all, he had a charming, of-the-moment cast, a compelling-on-paper story about a man reconnecting with a longtime ex while also falling for a pretty young thing and an idyllic location to work with. And yet in execution, "Aloha" is a meandering, needlessly confusing cacophony of story, performance, and spiritual blather. Not only does it feel inauthentic, it's often downright alien. The story, briefly, is about the once idealistic Brian (Bradley Cooper) who sold his soul to a military contractor (a nearly comatose Bill Murray) and has returned to Hawaii for a job. There, he's forced to revisit his failed relationship with Tracy (Rachel McAdams), who's since had two kids and married a man of few words (John Krasinski). He's also been tethered to the bizarre Air Force pilot/potential love interest Allison Ng (Emma Stone). How something that straightforward goes astray is a bit of a mystery. Crowe packs every moment with so many words, but very little coherent information. The discomfort of not knowing what's going on rots the overall experience, especially when the odd satellite defense subplot takes over. It sometimes feels like half the movie is missing. At one point, probably 30 minutes in, Brian and Ng are together, going somewhere. The two characters talk and bicker at rapid speed. But they're not really talking to each other, at least in the way that any human might understand conversation to work with another human. It's all cute turns of phrase and non-sequiturs. By the time they get to their destination — a settlement of native Hawaiians who want sovereignty — you've fully forgotten, or perhaps never understood, why exactly they are there. And it only gets more jumbled. RATED: PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for "some language including suggestive comments." RUNNING TIME: 105 minutes. ASSOCIATED PRESS RANKING: One and a half stars out of four.
"Love & Mercy"
Brian Wilson's life is too big for a movie. The story of the brilliant and troubled co-founder of The Beach Boys barely lends itself to a coherent linear narrative, let alone a single film. Thankfully "Love & Mercy" doesn't attempt to cover it all, or even most of it. Instead, director Bill Pohlad's film focuses in on two moments in Wilson's life: One of creation and destruction, as Wilson conceives of the group's transformative "Pet Sounds" album, and one of rebirth two decades later.
June 11, 2015
Even these stories are a bit ambitious for a two hour film, but Pohlad's carefully woven vignettes manage to hit the necessary notes and explode expectations of what a biopic can and should be. It's a feat that will likely satisfy those who know Wilson's story all too well, while also whetting the appetite (and dropping the jaws) of those who don't. In telling the two stories, Pohlad made the bold artistic choice to cast two different actors to portray Wilson: Paul Dano and John Cusack. While Dano and Cusack could hardly pass for distant cousins, let alone the same man a few decades and a lot of drugs later, it's a technique that helps to further separate "Love & Mercy" from any allegiance to a just-the-facts narrative. The 1960s story meets up with Wilson and The Beach Boys after their early successes at the moment he decides to forgo their Japan tour to stay home and write. Many of the most invigorating scenes in the film take place in the recording studio as Wilson pushes the famed session musicians The Wrecking Crew past their musical comfort zones and into something bold and new. What emerges are the tracks for "Pet Sounds." Now so laced in our collective consciousness, it's fascinating to watch Wilson bicker with Mike Love (Jake Abel) and his father (Bill Camp) over whether or not he's gone too far astray from the peppy "surfer sounds" of their early work. RATED: PG-13 for "thematic elements, drug content and language." RUNNING TIME: 120 minutes. ASSOCIATED PRESS RANKING: Three and a half stars out of four.
"Entourage"
Like the HBO show, "Entourage" delights in Hollywood excess. This is a world where you might land your helicopter on someone's lawn to crash a business meeting, or take a little yacht to meet up with your buddy on his bigger yacht. It's a land of celebrities, wealth and topless women. This is the Hollywood where movie star Vince (Adrian Grenier) and his friends live; where what matters most is business and your bros. Fans of the series will feel right at home in the film, which plays like an extended episode on the big screen. All the familiar characters are there, along with ostentatious mansions, convertible Ferraris, Los Angeles landmarks and those topless women. It's a celebration of idealized consumption, presented without criticism. The film opens on a yacht off the coast of Ibiza, where Vince has retreated to mourn the end of his dayslong marriage. His lifelong friends — manager E (Kevin Connolly), driver Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) and brother Johnny "Drama" (Kevin Dillon) — come to cheer him up. Just then, Vince's former agent, Ari (Jeremy Piven), now a studio head, calls to offer him the leading role in the company's next film. Surrounded by babes and with his buddies beside him, Vince says without irony: "This whole rushing-into-marriage thing is because I'm searching for something. I've decided that whatever I do next, I also want to direct." Ari goes for it, and thus begins their adventure. Ari's fight for financing with a pair of tough Texans (Billy Bob Thornton and Hayley Joel Osment) comprises much of the action on the business end. But that's not where the real action is, of course. It's with the guys (and the women they sleep with). Did I mention there are lots of naked, pretty girls in this movie? RATED: R by the Motion Picture Association of America for "pervasive language, strong sexual content, nudity and some drug use." RUNNING TIME: 104 minutes. ASSOCIATED PRESS RANKING: Two stars out of four.

"Surfers don't even like our music," says Wilson defensively at one point. Dennis Wilson (Kenny Wormald), the only actual surfer in the group, chimes in between
puffs with a perfectly timed "they don't." And then Wilson does LSD for the first time and things take a turn as his auditory hallucinations begin to manifest and his already fraught working relationship with Love sours. The 1980s find a very altered Wilson, broken by drugs, mental illness and despair following the bizarre death of his brother Dennis. Pohlad focuses the story on the beginnings of his relationship with his now-wife, Melinda Ledbetter (Elizabeth Banks). They meet cute inside a showroom Cadillac, before Melinda even realizes who he is and what he's become. The audience slowly discovers the peculiarities of Wilson's relationship with the controversial, 24-hour therapist Dr. Eugene Landy (Paul Giamatti) as Melinda does.
"Aloha" better as goodbye than hello By ROBERT GRUBAUGH Of The Edge The amount of fallout from Friday's release of Aloha has been appreciable, especially considering when none of the things being talked about now had landed in the media prior to the opening. Specifically, writer-director Cameron Crowe and his crew are coming under fire for casting actress Emma Stone into the role of fighter pilot Allison Ng, a character who famously talks about her half-Asian heritage throughout the picture. The latest episode in the race-baiting "white-washing of Hollywood" is not solving any new problem. In fact, it only highlights an issue that's as old as moviemaking in the first place - actors in blackface, Italians portraying Native Americans in early Westerns, the list goes on. Racial inequality doesn't end
because someone whines about it in a movie review. Real change, as has been clearly illustrated by the state of affairs in our country in this day and age of the civil unrest filling streets from Ferguson to Baltimore, is harder to come by. I won't leave my area of expertise behind when I defend Stone's casting. Instead, I'll remain within my depth and criticize Aloha for being a lousy film. The attempt at originality in the creation of Aloha is without peer in my book. 'Do something different and be rewarded for it' is a spin on the American dream that is beyond value. In this picture, military contractor Brian Gilcrest (Bradley Cooper) returns to Hawaii after surviving a near-death experience in Afghanistan. He'd been a major player there years before during his glory days with the United States Air Force, but the previous decade had seen him fall
from grace after a few missteps in his work and judgment that are merely hinted at during the course of the film. Instead, the story focuses on a relationship that develops between him and the up-and-comer liaison that the USAF assigns to him (Stone) during his current assignment in helping a billionaire industrialist (Bill Murray, doing his best with very little to work with) launch a new satellite. Brian and Allison hit it off quickly after a rocky start; their love affair is predictable, but still comes along too fast. The fly in Aloha's ointment is that it brings in too many interesting characters that don't develop properly or how have enough to do while they're on the screen. Alec Baldwin plays a general who comes along to yell at people a few times. Danny McBride brings his nervous power delivery to only a handful of jokes
(including one about a baby named Don that bowled me over). Worst of the lot, though, is the Woodside family. Tracy (Rachel McAdams) is Brian's old flame, the one he let get away a dozen years earlier. John Krasinski plays her communicationphobic husband and they have two sweet children, Mitch (Jaeden Lieberher, who co-starred with Murray in last year's St. Vincent) and Grace (Danielle Rose Russell), who's real paternity comes into question upon Brian's return to the islands. This whole thing is a product of the imagination of filmmaker Cameron Crowe. I would love to say he's one of my favorites, but it's really that he directed one of my favorite movies. He reached a pinnacle with 1996's Jerry Maguire, but the superior film, one with significant autobiographical chops, is Almost Famous, a roaring tale
June 11, 2015
of a young rock journalist on the road with a band about to break into the big time. Aloha's gaffe is not that Emma Stone is supposed to play a bi-racial character. In fact, Emma Stone is the one thing that's right with this movie. She slays every scene with either her energy, breezy confidence, knee-buckling vulnerability, or a perfected sexiness. So when the entertainment world starts criticizing Crowe for casting a blond, freckled actress as someone with Hawaiian and Scandinavian ancestry, I'm encouraged to use the quote from Almost Famous that Frances McDormand's character attributes to Goethe: "Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid." Aloha runs 123 minutes and is rated PG-13 for some language including suggestive comments. I give this film one star out of four.

Cunetto's Corner Cucina in Edwardsville By BILL ROSEBERRY Of The Edge With my aunt and uncle visiting from Ohio, my family and I were looking for a quiet, quaint place to eat dinner and catch up and we found it in Edwardsville at Cunetto's Corner Cucina. The tiny Italian eatery located at 1114 N. Main St., on the corner of East J St. can get bypassed by many hungry travelers with it's somewhat hidden location. I call it a hidden treasure. Cunetto's opened in May of 2014 and is stocked with a small, but fantastic lineup of Italian delicacies and some unique creations. It's worth a visit. It was myself, my parents and my aunt and uncle when we visited for an early dinner and we were the only patrons, so it was the perfect setting. Starting with the appetizer menu, I discovered a unique and wonderful jewel in the Italian nachos. They were indeed unique in flavor and culinary workmanship. Chef and manager Mike Cunetto's scrumptious invention includes fried lasagna noodles, smothered in a meat sauce with black olives, pepperoncinis and provel and parmesan cheeses. For our group I removed the pepperoncinis to erase the spiciness. The flavor was astounding. The fried noodles had a sensational taste and remained firm even with toppings dripping off of them. It's the type of dish you hope to find when you visit a restaurant, unique, delicious and making a return visit unavoidable. After that it was going to be hard for the rest of the order to live up to the billing of these sensational nachos, but we all gave it a try.

I went with the chicken spiedini for my main course and it was accompanied with a side and a soup or salad. My choice was the Cajun bean soup and a side of penne pasta in marinara sauce. The soup arrived first and to be honest I wasn't too impressed. It had a nice kick to it, but there wasn't much taste besides that. When the spiedini arrived I was ready. It looked delectable. Spiedini is simply a chicken kabob marinated, breaded and charbroiled. It was swimming in a yummy lemon butter garlic sauce, too.
On the Edge of the Weekend
It was such a light and delicious meal. The breading was so light you could barely tell the skewered chicken was breaded. It tasted more grilled or charbroiled, as it was, but without any breading. The lemon butter garlic sauce was light and delicious, too, no overload of lemon or garlic. The side of pasta was good also. It was simply tender penne pasta in a tomato-based marinara sauce and a nice cohort to the spiedini. As for the rest of the menu, there is an appetizer portion, salads, sandwiches, pastas, entrees,
June 11, 2015
stuffed pasta and some pizza choices. The fried portabella mushrooms on the appetizer menu are very good; I'd tried them on a previous visit. There is also calamari and onion straws on the appetizer menu that grabbed my attention. The salads at Cunetto's are savory. Selections include, a house salad, a garden salad and a caesar salad. As for the entrees, there is fried chicken, which my uncle Jerry tried and raved about. There are also New York strip steak options,
chicken parmesan and the chicken bianco vino that caught my eye. The chicken bianco vino is chicken in white wine and lemon butter and covered in provel cheese and mushrooms. The fettucine carbonara on the pasta portion of the menu is delicious and in the stuffed pastas, my dad enjoyed the canneloni, while my mom applauded the lasagna. On the sandwich menu there are two Italian beef options that stand out. A classic style and a Philly style, which includes peppers, onions and cheese. Cunetto's also has a Bison burger, an Alaska whiefish sandwich and even a shrimp po boy that look to be delectable, among a slew of other sandwiches to choose from. The pizzas are 9, 12 and 14 inches and thin crust. They are a fairly new addition to what Cunetto's offers. Cunetto's is open MondaySaturday and closed on Sunday. Monday hours are only 4-8 p.m. It's open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. TuesdayThursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday. Check out their Facebook page to learn more. The dining area is small. There are just a few tables and a couple TVs. A nice collection of Cardinal bobble head dolls are displayed above the counter also. On our visit, my family and I enjoyed the opportunity to catch up and watch a Saturday afternoon Cardinals game and price-wise it's not too bad. My nachos were $7.75 and my chicken spiedini, Cajun bean soup and penne pasta dish ran $12. Cunetto's is just a great place to relax, enjoy a quiet dinner and obviously a delicious dinner when you gotta eat.
