Children love Santa Claus and a letter from the North Pole could make the holiday extra special.
North Pole postmarks available For The Edge
Y
es, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. And the Postal Service can help you prove it when Santa replies to your child’s letter to Santa — complete with a North Pole postmark!
Here are the steps for your child to get a letter back from Santa: Have your child write a letter to Santa and seal it in an envelope addressed to: Santa Claus, North Pole. Tell your child that you’ll place a stamp on the envelope and mail it to St. Nick for him or her. Later, when alone, open the envelope, read the letter and write Santa’s response on the back of the child’s letter. Have Santa write: “It’s important to be green and save paper. That’s why I’m writing on the back.”
When responding as Santa, reference your child’s accomplishments not included in his or her letter, i.e., Santa is so proud that you volunteered to help ____, or Santa is really impressed with the great job you’re doing in school — especially with math, etc. Sign it Santa Claus with a P.S. to get to bed early Christmas Eve. Place the letter into a new envelope addressed to the child at his or her home. Be sure to include: Santa Claus, North Pole, as the return address on the envelope. Don’t forget to apply a First-Class stamp — such as a recently issued Santa or Rudolph Forever stamp. Place the stamped envelope in a larger envelope (or Priority Mail envelope) with adequate postage addressed to: NORTH POLE HOLIDAY POSTMARK POSTMASTER 4141 POSTMARK DR ANCHORAGE AK 99530-9998
Letters from Santa must be received by the Anchorage, AK, Postmaster no later than Dec. 15, 2014. The Anchorage Postmaster will open the envelope, remove Santa’s letter addressed to your child, apply the North Pole postmark and mail it back home. When Santa’s letter arrives, have your camera ready when you ask your child to open the letter and read it to you. Share the photos on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #SantaLetters. Keep the letters and the photos in a scrapbook as a great family keepsake. The Letters to Santa program adds to the excitement of Christmas and is perfect for interesting youngsters in letter writing. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.

People People planner OMNIMAX film captures unseen world
A new giant screen film adventure takes audiences on an extraordinary journey into unseen worlds and hidden dimensions beyond our normal vision to uncover the mysteries of things too fast, too slow, too small or simply invisible. On October 10, 2014, the Saint Louis Science Center ’s OMNIMAX® Theater will premiere Mysteries of the Unseen World, an original production by National Geographic Entertainment and Days End Pictures, narrated by Forest Whitaker. Created by an award-winning veteran film team, the new 40-minute large format experience is produced by Jini Durr (“Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure”) and Lisa Truitt (“Mysteries of Egypt”) and directed by Louis Schwartzberg (“Disney Nature: Wings of Life”). Mysteries of the Unseen World uses innovative high-speed and time-lapse photography, electron microscopy, and nanotechnology, to transport audiences to an enthralling secret world of nature, events and breathtaking phenomena not visible to the naked eye. “Mysteries of the Unseen World has that ‘wow’ factor that will impress adults and children,” said Jackie Mollet, Managing Director Visitor Services at the Saint Louis Science Center. “Seeing these amazing images will give you a new appreciation for the world around us. The technological advances used to capture these images are aweinspiring as well. ” INVISIBLE: We see only a fraction of the millions of wavelengths in the vast electromagnetic spectrum—the rainbow of light waves called visible light. The film shows audiences what it would be life if we had X-ray vision, or infrared vision like a mosquito, how a bee’s eyes see through ultraviolet light, what Gamma rays, microwaves and radio waves show us, and more. TOO SLOW: Ti m e - l a p s e i m a g e s c a p t u re
mundane events that happen too slowly for humans to perceive. The film shows plants creeping toward the sun and astonishingly complex “slime mold” searching for food. On a grander scaled, time-lapse allows audiences to see our planet in motion—from the vast and relentless sweep of nature to the restless movement of humanity. TOO FAST: High-speed cameras do the opposite of time-lapse, revealing secrets from the super-fast world of nature. The film shows slow motion sequences of events that happen too quickly for human perception: a rattlesnake strike; drug cymbals reverberating; a Eurasian Eagle Owl, the world’s largest, flexing its wings; a basilisk or Jesus lizard running on the surface of water; popcorn popping; lightning rising upwards from the ground as well as striking from the sky. TOO SMALL: The film also peers into the world of wonders too small for the human eye to see—from the minute structures on a butterfly’s wing and the tiny organisms that inhabit the human body all the way down to nano-scale structures. See how
electron microscopes create images that magnify things by as much as a million times—revealing a world that is both bizarre and beautiful. Guess which unusual image is a fruit fly’s eye, the skin of a shark, a flea on a cat, a tomato stem, an eggshell, and more! Mysteries of the Unseen World then moves from the familiar events of everyday life to the building blocks of matter itself. The filmmakers worked with a 3-D medical animation company to depict the atom-scale realm of nanoscience and potential innovations in nanotechnology. In a complex zoom sequence, the shot moves in on a spider, then a strand of its silk, then into the silk itself where audiences see a bacterium. The camera then zooms even deeper, in on a virus on the bacterium, then into the DNA of the virus and finally into the actual atoms of the DNA. “Mysteries of the Unseen World immerses audiences in mindbending dimensions that enhance our understanding of the planet and inspire people with the wonder and possibilities of science,” said Lisa Truitt, president of National Geographic Entertainment.

“The premise of this new giant screen film experience is looking at the world through a variety of imaging technologies that allow

"The Homesman"
"There's been some trouble about the women hereabouts," says John Lithgow's plains preacher in Tommy Lee Jones' "The Homesman." The hereabouts is a tiny, hardscrabble settlement in the Nebraska Territory, sometime around 1860. On the desolate prairie, a handful of hardened settlers try to eek something out of the dry land. Going West never looked like more a questionable Decision. The directional movement of "The Homesman," however, is east. When three of the town's women (Miranda Otto, Grace Gummer and Sonja Richter) lose their minds, it's Decided that they must be taken to a church in Iowa, across the Missouri River. Each driven mad — one by child-killing diphtheria, another by the constant rape of a cruel husband, all by the acrid isolation — they're the seldom seen victims of the male pioneers usually glorified in Westerns, collateral damage to an ill-conceived Manifest Destiny. The town's men (Jesse Plemons, William Fitchner, David Dencik) aren't up for the monthlong journey by wagon, so the task falls on the sturdiest resident, Mary Bee Cutty (Hilary Swank). She lives "uncommonly alone," she says, with a twinge of shame, fastidiously running her farmstead. When she proposes to a potential mate, the dimwitted man turns her down, saying he'll go back east for a wife, and besides, she's too plain and too bossy. RATED: R by the Motion Picture Association of America for "for violence, sexual content, some disturbing behavior and nudity." RUNNING TIME: 120 minutes. ASSOCIATED PRESS RANKING: Two and a half stars out of four.
"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1"
All is not well in Panem. At the conclusion of "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," Katniss's (Jennifer Lawrence) force-field shattering arrow left the society in turmoil. The desperate act was perceived as subversion, inciting populist uprisings and devastating counter attacks by the governing elite. Thus, revolution is on the horizon in the franchise's third installment, "Mockingjay - Part 1," and it all hinges on Katniss, the unwitting face and spirit of the movement. You see, Katniss, much like the movie star actress who plays her, is just generally liked. Everything she does is slapped with meaning and significance, regardless of her intentions. She has become the property of the people. This has always been clear to Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman), who aims to use her as a propaganda machine. But there's a problem: the girl on fire has flamed out. In the chaos that followed the conclusion of the second film, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) was captured by the Capitol, District 12 was destroyed (though Katniss' mother, sister and the steely jawed Gale (Liam Hemsworth) escaped alive), and Katniss was taken by the militaristic District 13. Their President, Alma Coin, (franchise newcomer Julianne Moore) needs her to be their poster girl. "Mockingjay - Part 1" is, ultimately, a slow-burn portrait of the repeated rise and fall of dystopia's most reluctant hero, nimbly told through its examination of the mechanics of propaganda. With the help of Plutarch, Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) and the toned-down (but still delightful) Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks), Katniss attempts to serve the cause in her own way. RATED: PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for "intense sequences of violence and action, some disturbing images and thematic material." RUNNING TIME: 123 minutes. ASSOCIATED PRESS RANKING: Two and a half stars out of four.

"Penguins of Madagascar"
For a movie that's more paint by numbers than Picasso, "Penguins of Madagascar" begins with something completely unexpected: a Werner Herzog voiceover. Parodying his own work and documentary films' obsession with the flightless birds, the German filmmaker gives an auspiciously clever start to a movie targeted toward the under 10 set. It's a little wink to the adults in the audience right at the front. But don't be fooled. This movie is almost exclusively and unapologetically for tots. Kids will no doubt be amused by the exhausting madcap antics of the cuddly breakout stars of the popular "Madagascar" films. Parents: probably less so. The story reintroduces audiences to the illustrious spy team, giving penguins Skipper (Tom McGrath), Kowalski (Chris Miller), Rico (Conrad Vernon) and Private (Christopher Knights) a bit of an origin story before blasting them back into their espionage work. After an amusing heist, the penguins are taken captive by the evil octopus Dave (John Malkovich). It's revealed that Dave (aka Dr. Octavius Brine) is out for revenge against all penguins for being the more popular and beloved attractions at zoos. The brothers-in-arms manage to break out of Dave's tentacled grasp in an imaginative high-speed gondola chase through the Venice canals. When the thrifty penguins are backed into a corner, they're relieved when The North Wind, an elite special ops team, wafts in for a stylish rescue. "Penguins of Madagascar" RATED: PG by the Motion Picture Association of America "for mild action and some rude humor." RUNNING TIME: 92 minutes. ASSOCIATED PRESS RANKING: Two and a half stars out of four.
"Horrible Bosses 2"
The characters of the modern workplace comedy, like the rest of us, don't know how to make a living anymore. Having haplessly tried to murder their bosses in the first "Horrible Bosses," Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis return in "Horrible Bosses 2" as hopeful inventors. "Let's bet on ourselves," they tell each other, making a clearly questionable wager. They go into business with a bath product dubbed "Shower Buddy," and with their abysmal guest spot on a morning show promoting it, it's clear they may have backed the wrong horse. It's become a familiar genre trope of recent years: The idealistic self-starter business that almost certainly wouldn't stand a chance in real life. Dwarfed by corporations or left behind by the digital economy, comedies are routinely littered with plucky upstarts, from Kristen Wiig's would-be baker in "Bridesmaids" to Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson's middleaged Google aspirants of "The Internship." While the first "Horrible Bosses" tried to tap into the widely held fantasy of killing the overloads of the office, its sequel mines the farce in being your own boss. The entrepreneurial efforts of the film's ever-yammering trio, of course, fail, and the film descends into a thinly sketched kidnapping plot that serves mainly to space its celebrity cameos. Hoodwinked by a rich distributor (Christoph Waltz), the guys — Nick, Kurt and Dale — plan to kidnap the executive's playboy son (Chris Pine). The ill-conceived scheme returns them to their criminal adviser (Jamie Foxx, who the film could have used more of), Nick's now imprisoned former boss (Kevin Spacey) and Dale's old torturer dentist (Jennifer Aniston). RATED: PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for "some sexual references, mature thematic material and historical smoking." RUNNING TIME: 108 minutes. ASSOCIATED PRESS RANKING: One and a half stars out of four.

"Still Alice"
When we refer to an actor's performance as breathtaking, we're usually engaging in hyperbole. Rarely if ever do we mean it actually affected our ability to breathe. But during "Still Alice," watching the vital, sharply intelligent woman played by Julianne Moore slowly cede her mental faculties — and, most painfully, her identity — to Alzheimer's disease, I found myself frequently needing to gulp in big breaths of air, merely to steel myself for the next scene. Of course this is partly due to the nature of the material. There's no way to tell a story about Alzheimer's that isn't ultimately devastating, and writer-directors Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland clearly have no intention of sugarcoating the cruelty of this disease. But as its title suggests, "Still Alice," based on the novel by neuroscientist Lisa Genova, is about one woman, and thankfully we have Moore, one of our most sensitive and nuanced actresses, in the role. She gives a warm, brave and shattering performance here — one that's already earning accolades, and deserves many more before awards season ends. We first meet Alice, a linguistics professor at Columbia, as she's celebrating her 50th birthday with family. Chic and accomplished, she's managed to work and travel and raise three adult kids in a beautiful home. She and her husband, John (Alec Baldwin), also an academic, live in a lovely brownstone with a great kitchen. But one day, giving a lecture, Alice suddenly stops, midsentence. She can't remember a key word. She recovers nimbly with a joke, but we shudder. Back home, taking her usual jog around campus, she gets lost. The camera blurs, along with the connections in her brain. We shudder again. We know what's coming. RATED: PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America "for mature thematic material, and brief language including a sexual reference." RUNNING TIME: 99 minutes. ASSOCIATED PRESS RANKING: Three and a half stars out of four.
"Wild"
Cheryl Strayed, as played by Reese Witherspoon in Jean-Marc Vallee's "Wild," is, bless the Lord, not an easily discernable type. She's also not the sort we've often encountered on the well-trod paths of female stereotypes in movies. Strayed is a bundle of messy imperfections, as we gradually learn from flashbacks that accumulate throughout her therapeutic journey on the Pacific Crest Trail in "Wild." She's a serial adulterer but no villain. (How many times have we seen that, in a woman, in our male-dominated movies?) She's curious, experimental and intrepid to the point of self-destruction. The same traits, though, may also be her salvation. "I'm the girl that says 'yes' instead of 'no,'" she explains to a friend, with all the positive and negative implications of that statement abundantly clear. Heavy with grief from the loss of her mother (Laura Dern) to cancer, haunted by remorse for seven years of unfaithful marriage to her sensitive husband (Thomas Sadoski) and shaking off a dark turn into heroin, Strayed sets out to hike 1,100 miles up the coast, from the Mojave Desert to Oregon. She's forcing self-renewal not by fleeing her life but by confronting herself in isolation. When she wrestles to strap on her oversized backpack, she's literally weighed down with baggage. RATEDL R by the Motion Picture Association of America for "sexual content, nudity, drug use and language." RUNNING TIME: 115 minutes. ASSOCIATED PRESS RANKING: Two and a half stars out of four.

Spin-off hatches great family fun By LINDSEY BAHR Associated Press For a movie that's more paint by numbers than Picasso, "Penguins of Madagascar" begins with something completely unexpected: a Werner Herzog voiceover. Parodying his own work and documentary films' obsession with the flightless birds, the German filmmaker gives an auspiciously clever start to a movie targeted toward the under 10 set. of the popular "Madagascar" films. The brothers-in-arms manage to break out of Dave's tentacled grasp in an imaginative high-speed gondola chase through the Venice
canals. When the thrifty penguins are backed into a corner, they're relieved when The North Wind, an elite special ops team, wafts in for a stylish rescue. Led by the debonair Agent Classified (a charmingly zany Benedict Cumberbatch), the James Bond-inspired superspies form a nebulous alliance with the penguins in order to track down the diabolical Dave. The two teams clash over best spy practices, with The North Wind preferring meticulous, gadget-enhanced plans, while the penguins opt for hysterical improvisation. Of course the sweet spot is somewhere in the middle, but, too often, the wacky birds come across as an actual menace. "You stole and destroyed a $19 million
vehicle," Cumberbatch's Classified tells the penguins, explaining why they can't help The North Wind anymore. The audience is probably meant to feel for the penguins in this moment, but it's hard not to place your empathy with Classified. More often than not, they do a remarkable job of messing things up pretty spectacularly. In this golden age of animation, it's especially difficult to become an instant classic. "Penguins of Madagascar" does not appear to be reaching for those heights, which is just as well. The story is simple, the characters are basic, unfussy and barely evolve, and there's no overriding lesson, moral or otherwise, to be gleaned from the tale.
"Horrible Bosses 2" a tepid sequel By ROBERT GRUBAUGH Of The Edge What do you get when you combine three Oscar winners, a trio of loser business owners, a slimy kidnapping plot, and enough innuendo (or is it?) to fill a warehouse? "Horrible Bosses 2" which, contrary to popular opinion is neither ‘horrible’ nor ‘boss’. The movie should be given a little credit for at least attempting to bring some adult comedy into a crowded Thanksgiving holiday box office. The track record for such titles is untested and I can understand the appeal to corner an underserved piece of pumpkin pie-loving audience. Unfortunately, a down holiday and a tepid sequel don’t always
catch on. Of course, it’s not 2011 or July. Maybe the success of Horrible Bosses was tied to different time. Hapless, but usually wellmeaning would be the best thing I could say about Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis), and Dale (Charlie Day), the trio returning from a failed conspiracy to kill most of their former bosses to form their own enterprise. The disparagingly-named NickKurt-Dale, Inc. (say it fast) is an emerging startup trying to launch the Shower Buddy, a ridiculous MacGuffin that brings the boys into the nefarious clutches of the shady businessman Bert Hanson (Christoph Waltz, Oscar Winner #1). Hanson uses his contractually open-ended promise to buy 100,000 units to undercut, d r i v e i n t o b a n k r u p t c y, a n d
acquire NKD, Inc. outright. His American Dream, apparently, has nothing to do with the concept of manufacturing actually happening outside of China. He’s a chap at playing the straight man, but make no mistake. Mr. Waltz can cut to the chase pretty quick. He’s even nasty to his own son, Rex (Chris Pine). After getting some terrible advice from their go-to hood ( J a m i e F o x x , O s c a r Wi n n e r #2), and failing to inspire and sympathy from the incarcerated victim of the first film (Kevin S p a c e y, O s c a r Wi n n e r # 3 ) , a ridiculous plan is hatched to kidnap Rex and hold him hostage for enough money to cover the bridge loan on which the lives o f K urt, Dale , and N ic k no w hang. This movie is bad enough to call it the anti-9 to 5, but
sneaky enough to point out in the execution that they can only aspire to be as good at Kidnap & Ransom as Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin, and Jane Fonda once were. In fact, the real payoff in the kidnapping of Rex – who’s going along with the scheme to cash in on his inheritance early – is how drastically far from their plan the actual events stray. They plot each move out carefully, but things come crashing apart when the men are easily distracted by a tight sweater, an angry wife, or – in Bateman’s case – the look on his face of seeming realization in every scene. “Have I really sunk this low again?” his mug appears to silently scream. The shenanigans that ensue are detrimental to members of both genders, all races (especially Latinos), and any sexual

orientation that you can think of. In fact, most of the raunchiest, disgusting, unappetizing sentiments that spew from this sewer of a film come from the attractive lips of Jennifer Aniston as she returns to slum her way through as a catty dentist. I did enjoy seeing the gruff Jonathan Banks (of TV’s Breaking Bad) as a no-nonsense cop that is both hero and idiot. That’s a weak compliment, I know, but a boon for anyone excited about seeing the former Mike Ehrmantraut return to form in the upcoming AMC prequel series Better Call Saul. Horrible Bosses 2 runs 123 minutes and is rated R for strong crude sexual content and language throughout. I give this film one star out of four.

Religion Religion briefs Missouri students want religious policy change
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — A student group has asked the University of Missouri to strengthen a classroom policy to ensure that professors accommodate students who have to miss class for a religious holiday. The Missouri Student Association, after meeting with Thalia Sass, president of the Jewish Student Organization at MU, presented the faculty council with a proposed change that would obligate faculty to make religious allowances. The current rules only encourage professors to excuse students from classes, tests or activities because of religious obligations. Student leaders say the change is needed because some students have problems with their professors without a mandate in place. The student association proposal also recommends
students provide notice to professors about possible absences toward the beginning of each semester.

Colorado court upholds Day of Prayer proclamations
Marion Barry's turkey giveaway goes on without him
DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Supreme Court is upholding the governor's right to issue Day of Prayer proclamations. Monday's ruling reverses a 2012 appeals court decision that found that the proclamations unconstitutionally favored the religious over the non-religious. The Colorado Supreme Court found that opponents of the proclamations don't have the right to sue because they weren't forced to participate in the day of prayer and didn't suffer any negative consequences from the government. The court also said the plaintiffs didn't suffer significant "psychic harm" from media coverage of the prayer proclamations. Congress established a National Day of Prayer in 1952, and
WASHINGTON (AP) — Marion Barry's annual turkey giveaway went on without the longtime District of Columbia politician. Hundreds of people gathered recently outside Union Temple Baptist Church in Southeast Washington. For years, the former mayor and city councilman raised money to buy turkeys and give them to the poor. Many residents mourned Barry's death as they waited in line for one of the 3,500 turkeys that were given away. LaToya Foster, Barry's spokeswoman, said that's what Barry lived for — giving back to the poorest people and serving those who didn't have a voice. Barry died early Nov. 23 at the age of 78.

For The Edge The Little Dancer: Celebrate St. Louis is COCA’s original holiday presentation December 12-14, in Founders’ Theatre at COCA. Part of the COCA Presents performance series, The Little Dancer brings to life the famous Degas statuette and celebrates her awakening with dancing, costumes and music that are colorful and varied. This season, the statuette “dances” through iconic images of St. Louis, in honor of the city’s 250th birthday. The cast is comprised of members of COCA’s Ballet Eclectica, a company of skilled student performers who are chosen each year through an area-wide audition. The Little Dancer: Celebrate St. Louis is sponsored by Mary Strauss and is suitable for all ages. Original concept and libretto created by Amy Scheers. Original piano music (including Overture/Prologue and Incidental Music between ballets) was composed by Laurence Galian. The Little Dancer: Celebrate St. Louis will be presented in the Founders’ Theatre at COCA, 524 Trinity Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63130 Tickets ($14-$18) are on sale at www. cocastl.org, by phone at 314.561.4877 or in person at COCA during box office hours. With a repertoire incorporating elements of classical and contemporary ballet, Ballet Eclectica provides performance opportunities for students both at COCA and throughout the St. Louis community. Company members participate in a minimum of five dance classes per week and attend rehearsals two times per week at COCA. In 2006, Ballet Eclectica created and presented The Little Dancer in collaboration with the Saint Louis Art Museum. The Little

The upcoming 49th season includes: New Dance Horizons III, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Tango Buenos Aires, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, Compagnie Käfig in Correria Agwa, the 8th Annual SPRING TO DANCE FESTIVAL 2015 and two co-presentations with the U.S. Bank Broadway Series at the Fox Theatre: Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story on Stage and STOMP. Tickets are on sale now and are available at the Dance St. Louis box office at 3547 Olive St. in the Centene Center for Arts and Education in Grand Center, by calling 314-534-6622, or by visiting dancestlouis.org. Tango Buenos Aires January 30 & 31, 2015 Touhill Performing Arts Center Back by popular demand, Tango Buenos Aires, one of Argentina’s greatest cultural exports, presents another fiery, hypnotic and expressive performance. Accompanied by musicians from Buenos Aires, the dancers flawlessly execute the Tango with impressively intricate muscular grace and interlacing movements between couples. For this special production, Tango Buenos Aires performs the “Song of Eva Perón” – a Tango dance and music presentation inspired by the most important feminine character in Argentinian history, Eva Perón. Tracing her epic life—from her ascent to fame in
the 1930s to her death in 1952—this sparkling and poignant spectacle reveals the influence of Tango on Perón’s life. It’s a saucy and passionate story that keeps you fully engaged while you’re simultaneously swaying in your seat. Aspen Santa Fe Ballet February 27 & 28, 2015 Touhill Performing Arts Center Cutting-edge, sophisticated, versatile, gifted and techniqueconscious – all describe the top-flight dancers of Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. Hailed by The New York Times as “a breath of fresh air” and by the Boston Herald as the “classically trained company of the future,” Aspen Santa Fe Ballet combines rugged athleticism with liquid grace, and blends European aesthetic with American vigor. The company, also known for its commitment to commissioning new works, performs from a diverse and engaging repertoire by some of the world’s foremost choreographers, ranging from Twyla Tharp and William Forsythe to Nicolo Fonte and Moses Pendelton. With its sophisticated repertoire and broad appeal, combined with a blend of entertaining and engrossing contemporary dance, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet is one of the great success stories in American dance today. Composed of 12 young, talented dancers, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet presents a lively program enjoyable for all audiences. STOMP April 10-12, 2015 Fox Theatre
See what all the noise is about! STOMP is explosive, inventive, provocative, witty, and utterly unique— an unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages. The international percussion sensation has garnered armfuls of awards and rave reviews and has appeared on numerous national television shows. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps – to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms. Year after year, audiences worldwide keep coming back for more of this pulse-pounding electrifying show. As the Boston Globe says, “If you haven’t seen STOMP, GO! If you have seen it, take someone and share the pleasure!” Compagnie Käfig in Correria Agwa / CCN Créteil et Val-deMarne April 24 & 25, 2015 Touhill Performing Arts Center There’s hip-hop and then there’s Compagnie Käfig’s brand of hip-hop, with its global composition, international flavor and fusion of styles. With dancers set in motion to the rhythmic beats of samba, bossa nova and electronic music, this show is a savvy, wild mash-up of innovative, dynamic choreography that promises to be one of the most entertaining highlights of the year. Compagnie Käfig is the brainchild of Mourad Merzouki, a native of Lyon, France who studied martial arts and circus arts as a child and was influenced by hip-hop as a teen.

W
hen it comes to the holidays, many of us take our favorite dishes with a side of guilt. We get caught between wanting to celebrate the season to its fullest and trying to stay healthy and fit. The good news is you can have your milk and cookies and eat them, too. Here are three tips to help you have a healthy, joyous and guilt-free holiday season. When you arrive at a party, take the edge off your appetite from the start by focusing on the protein-rich options. Protein helps us feel fuller longer, leaving less room for the sweets and treats that tempt us at every turn during the holidays. Hit up the cheese tray, the fruit and veggie plate with protein-rich yogurt dip or hummus, or the roasted nuts before setting your sights on the carbs and you’ll likely find
yourself eating less throughout the party. Plan ahead and bring your own healthy dish, perhaps a salad or a lighter version of a favorite holiday vegetable dish. Make sure it’s a tried-and-true, or at least that you do tastetest before debuting a new recipe. (You want your dish to be as delicious as it is healthy!) When it is time to dig into the buffet, you can rest assured knowing you (and other guests) will enjoy your waistline-friendly dish. While the holidays are a time to celebrate, remember that not every meal and snack is a special occasion. Choose healthful options between the parties and celebrations. Go for snacks like yogurt with fruit or low-fat string cheese with whole grain crackers, and pour a glass of milk with each meal. Aim for three servings of dairy, five cups of fruits and vegetables and whole grains when possible. This will help you get all the protein, vitamins and minerals you need all year round and make your holiday indulgences feel even sweeter. Warm up this holiday season with these
recipes from St. Louis District Dairy Council.
