Who won the first Grey Cup and when was that? (Answer on page 5) November 10-16, 2022 Volume 20 Issue 44 Remembrance Day This Friday, November 11 we remember those that have represented us in various wars. It is a huge Canadian tradition. Invermere has a service at 11 am at the Cenotaph and Edgewater has an afternoon service as well. The valley has had many veterans here through the years. Thank you all for your service. Everyone should remember with a poppy.

Appliances “How many loads of laundry will this hold?” I asked. “Sir, this is a dining room table”. “Well?”

Rockies’ Hockey The Columbia Valley Rockies had a fantastic weekend on the road defeating North Okanagan, Kelowna and Summerland. This moves the Rockies into a first place tie with Golden. Kimberley is only a single point behind. This is exciting for the locals. I don’t remember seeing the Rockies and Golden in the top two spots in all the years I have been here. The Rockies are back home to host Kam-

loops on Friday, November 11 at 7:30 pm and Kimberley on Saturday, November 12 at 7 pm. Get down to the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena and cheer them on.

Providing the Columbia Valley with delicious unique local & specialty items

Things are cooling down this week so we have to make an adjustment on what items go into the Pantry at 1313 10 St. Instead of canned goods it is best to find dry goods such as ‘Cup o; Noodles’, dry soup mixes, powdered milk and cereal, and anything else you can think of. Frozen veggies will be good soon. Crackers, cookies, bread. It all helps. Thanks to the wonderful souls who have been contributing food to the Pantry. You are a Godsend to many hungry folks in the valley. If you are a hungry person who would like some canned goods, I have quite a bit at my house. Give me a call and I will help you out.

Riddliculous What letter-number combination comes next in this series? J31, F28, M31, A30, _ _ _. Answer on page 6.

Bushcraft My latest video addiction. I have been watching all kinds of wilderness survival clips. I am confident that if I had a sharp hatchet, a nice bow saw and a strong agile person to do the work, it would be fun and easy to build an emergency shelter, complete with a nice warm cooking and heating fire. Some of the shelters are pretty quick and easy. I want to get out and try one someday. It would be a fun project to try this winter.

Water It was kind of interesting going without any water for a few hours in Invermere a couple of weeks ago. Followed by the boil water advisory. It would be tough if that went on for much longer. Remember you can flush your toilet with a bucket of water and we do have Toby Creek nearby. Having a couple of big blue jugs full of water at all times is also a good idea.

Using the Rainbows International Program model, this workshop is designed to provide support to adults wishing to understand how children grieve and how to help with the process. The effect of grief on academic performance and well being at school is well documented. It is common for manifestations of grief to be misinterpreted as misbehaviour. When: Tuesday, November 15th Where: Virtual (Zoom) Time: 5:30 to 8:30 pm Pre-registration is required by NOON, November 14th, 2022. PleasecontactHospice Society at 778-526-5143 or send an email to ed@hospicesocietycv.com to receive your Zoom link.

I have a lot of thoughts every day. So when it comes to Robservations my mind is often racing. Other times it is just blank. This week I will talk about things that amaze me and give me joy. I love my dogs, obviously. I love the way Rocky groans when I rub his back. I love the way Drew wants to cuddle in the bed and will stay there for hours in the morning until I come in and rub him down. It feels great. I love the way the sun hits Mr. Nelson in the mornings when we are out walking. Some days it is a bright gold colour. Very amazing. I love pristine mountain lakes and sitting on them in a little boat with a fishing rod in my hands. Even more is the feeling of my rod bending over, almost ripping out of my hands, as a nice rainbow trout takes my fly. It is exciting. I love the way my garden has grown the past two years. A tiny seed that produces massive numbers and sizes of vegetable. God is amazing. I love that despite kidney failure, multiple myeloma, a triple bypass and a valve replacement, I am still here. That is definitely a miracle or four. And I really love that I have this platform (The Valley Peak) to get my thoughts and stories out to the readers. I hope to provoke some critical thinking while supporting many valley events.

Yachting “I love our yakt,” my husband said. “The ‘c’ is silent,” I replied. “Yes, it is very tranquil out here”.

Children grieve in their own unique ways. It is important for adults to understand this. The Hospice Society is offering a program to help adults deal with children’s grief. The program runs Tuesday, November 15 as a Zoom call from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Check the ad on page 2.

Jokes I like to put a joke on every page of The Valley Peak. Most readers enjoy that. But it is tricky coming up with 7 fresh jokes every week. It takes a lot of reading and I find myself almost immune to humour. A lot of what I find is repetitive. So I get excited when I come across a new joke that is actually funny. I have a couple in this week. Enjoy.

Watson’s Waddle What an amazing time of year for Rocky and I. Drew here, reporting for Watson’s Waddle. We are in early November and the weather is so perfect for us. Cooler temperatures (not too cold yet) mixed with a skiff of snow makes for a lot of fun walks for us. We hardly see anyone else out there on most of our walks these days. Just us running around, finding scents in the snow and loving the fresh air. We are usually having so much fun that we end up in a wrestling match at the end of our walks. We are pretty frisky. It sounds like it is going to be very cold in a day or two. That changes the walks. They become very short. Although when our booties get on our feet, we can handle the cold quite a bit better. As long as there is no snow and salt between my toes, I am happy. Make sure you are still getting your dogs out for walks through the winter. They still need the exercise and most of you humans do as well. Dress warmly.

Math Time So the question I ask myself nearly every day is this, “Do I dig out the manual and figure out how to change the clock in my car or do I be aware and just subtract an hour from the time for six months?” The answer will be seen in due time. A couple of my clocks came on line with the time as I had not changed them in the spring.

THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH

They are saying that cannabis breaks down the proteins that cause dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. I am pretty sure that if I had a family member going through these issues I would get them to try a bit of cannabis. Maybe a gummie bear or something. Cannabis oil is great for skin cancer as well. I have seen some incredible results with that one. I consume it for my bone marrow cancer. Tests show it has lots of cancer fighting properties plus it helps with appetite and sleep.

Pfizer Farce So in a European inquiry a Pfizer executive has admitted that no trials were done to test for efficiency on stopping transmission of the virus. The vaccine was released with zero trials. Yet health officials and politicians claimed 95% efficiency and convinced us we could ‘save grandma’ by getting jabbed. That was a lie. Every mandate and passport was based on this lie. People lost jobs based on this lie. And so much more.

I am This Planet (From page 4) Venus is the hottest planet, even though Mercury is closer to the Sun. It is nearly the same size as Earth (hence ‘sister planet’) but has 92 time the atmospheric pressure. Look to the West at sunset any evening in the spring and summer and you will see how bright I am.

Help Please What is a great way to add joy to your daily life? It is to go into every situation wondering what you can do to help make it better. The key word is help. If you spend your day doing little favours and improving the days of others, your days will go very well. You will achieve inner happiness. Really.

Inflation Things are going up in cost at quite the rate these days. Inflation really sucks. Especially when it seems to be caused by government policies and spending. They really don’t care about the living conditions for the average citizen. Trudeau spent $6,000/night on a hotel room while in the UK for the Queen’s funeral. Or $80,000 on food and beverages on a flight. That is an insane amount of money. On our tax dollar. Ouch. But don’t worry about it. It is just normal.

Email rob@valleypeak.ca

lately. I wonder where she has gone. It looks like Danielle Smith is going to make some good changes in Alberta including firing her lying health minister.

Testing A trial of 113,000 people in Brazil showed a 100% success rate at stopping covid deaths with Ivermectin. But here our media and health officials call it ‘horse dewormer’ still. Hmm, interesting.

Interesting I find it quite interesting that when you suggest some alternative thought processes, how many people will get all irate and defend the government to the death without even considering there might be something going on. Even with Pfizer admitting no trials were done on whether the vaccine blocks the virus and even with people getting covid several times after being vaccinated, people still will defend it. Pride I guess.

Skilosophy Skis and toboggans were used for transportation of people and supplies for many years. I often wonder who and when the first person went down a hill and thought, “That was fun. I will climb back up and do it again”. Hence the birth of skiing as a sport. We are coming into ski season and I hope you all have a fantastic year.
