Administrator Position
ICAN is looking to fill their administrator position. You must love cats. The hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 4:30 pm with an unpaid 30-minute lunch. Learn more from the ad on page 3.
Golden
Well the good news is that I have made it to my golden years. Sadly there seems to be no gold involved.
Mother’s Day Brunch
Oh how I love brunch, especially as a buffet style. Antlers restaurant at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort is hosting brunch this Sunday, May 14. They have plenty of wonderful dishes lined up including p Prime Rib with Yorkshire Pudding, Eggs Benny, fresh Omelets, Ribs, Salmon, Veg-
gies and more.
Check the page 3 ad for a more complete list. Get out for a great meal with Mom, family, friends or just treat yourself.
Fresh BC Asparagus
Hopkins Harvest will be carrying fresh BC asparagus by the end of this week. As always, it will be delicious. Their farm fresh eggs are the best I have ever found in my life. Every time. I pretty much live off of them with eggs on toast each morning.
Leo Burrito
Leo Burrito and D’s Mini Golf are a not-sohidden treasure in Radium Hot Springs. They offer amazing authentic Mexican food as well as many flavours of homemade gelato in Leo Burrito with a fun 18-hole, par 3 mini golf course beside it. It is a wonderful treat for both locals and visitors to the valley. Check it out.
Good Vodka
Congratulations to Taynton Bay Distillery for being named producer of the number one vodka in Canada. I am allergic to alcohol so I have no clue but it is good to see them succeed. I believe you can stop in for a sample almost anytime.

Great Garden Centre
I am impressed with the Garden Centre at Canadian Tire. I can’t imagine it when the expansion is done. As for now, they have a lot of very healthy and beautiful flowers and plants as well as great starters of tomatoes and herbs. It is fun to just walk around and check that out. Pick up a premade hanging basket or get some flowers for your planters and gardens. Add some beauty to your world.

Free Food Pantry
A huge thanks to Dale who brought over a bunch of food from a home that was stocked up for the summer but the owners did not make it out. Also thanks to the Calgary family who allowed him to do that. Most of it was better food than I get to eat. Perfect for the Free Food Pantry. Thanks also to Constance for putting bread and eggs into the Pantry each week. What a blessing for a hungry family. The Free Food Pantry is at 1313 10 St and it supports many people 24 hours a day. We would love your support financially or by donating food. Helping feels good. Have a great week.
Feeling Unwell
It has been quite the couple of weeks of feeling poorly. I was sure it was pneumonia but it turns out it is a serious blood infection. I have been into the hospital daily for antibiotic IVs. It turns it’s out the same bug I had in January in the Kelowna hospital. I thought we had cleared it up 100% but I guess not. This feeling unwell business is getting old. It has been five and a half years since the kidneys went down and dialysis began. I would love to feel healthy and strong again but it has been a slow recovery as more things continue to happen.

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 14. It is a great day to really acknowledge Mom. My mother is incredible. She has taught what is right and what is wrong (I may not always follow her advice) and has always been there for me. She loves me.
I am in my early sixties and she will still make sure I have a stocking at Christmas and a bit of chocolate at Easter. She always reminds me to wear a coat in cool weather and to drive safely. She loves me. I love how she prepares all my favourite meals when I am visiting. She knows what I love. And she is concerned about my health. She knows that I love sweet things but that I am trying to avoid diabetes so she watches for suitable foods for me. She loves me.
I will not get to see Mom this Mother’s Day as she is living in Vernon. I am bad at sending cards but I will give her a call. I hope you all get a chance to connect with your Moms out there. Loving your family is generally a good way to go. It should be nice weather so if your Mom is around get her out for a walk or a picnic. I know my Mom would love that.
Quality Time
I’m reading a horror novel in Braille. Something bad is about to happen. I can feel it.
Sunlight
Everything in nature seeks the Sun. Flowers turn towards it, plants expand to catch it, animals come out to graze in it, water reflects, refracts and absorbs it, and fruits ripen by it.
How about humans? Many of us slather on toxic chemicals to block it. Humans are so disconnected from reality that we fear the very thing that keeps everything alive, healthy and thriving.
And now, many are afraid of breathing air. At least we know there is no mind manipulation and indoctrination happening out there.
Longer Days
Speaking of sunlight we are getting more than 15 hours of sunlight every day now. Quite the change from dark at 4 pm in December. Sunset is after 9:30 pm these days. It will get later and later as well as sunrises getting earlier and earlier until the summer solstice on Jun 21 or so. Nature is awesome.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you but especially to our original owner/mother, Ashley in Port Hardy. It was pretty traumatic for Rocky and I (I’m Drew) to leave there but she was having lots of health issues and hospital time. We know she was very sad to let us go. Rob seems to do a lot of health stuff but he has some great support for us. Jen at Kootenay Kritters is amazing. She often calls me ‘Muffin’. It is cute. We meet a lot of dogs while we are with her. Happy Mother’s Day to her as well. This has been a tough week as Rob is in and out of the hospital every day. He is rarely in a good mood on the way there but seems pretty happy to get out. Make sure you are checking your pets for ticks on a regular basis. The neck, ears, armpits and groin areas are pretty susceptible. Also, get those pets out for some nice walks and fresh air. It will be good for both you and the. We go crazy when we know we are headed out for an adventure. Rob doesn’t get us out much since breaking his leg but he still takes us to cool spots that we can explore while he rests. Be healthy and happy out there folks. We might see you around.
What Year Was It?
Antonio Banderas was born, the Summer Olympics were in Rome, where Cassius Clay won the gold for boxing (he also won his 1st pro fight that year), and The Flinstones and Coronation Street premiered. The Berlin Wall was built, Joanne Woodward became the first star on the ‘Walk of Fame’ and smoking was linked to heart disease. What year was it? See page 7.

Our Bodies Talk To Us
So apparently, I am allergic to another antibiotic. During my first IV session, about 30 seconds in, I became physically ill followed by total crazy itchiness and my whole body turning red. We had to stop instantly and push some Benadryl into me. It took a few minutes for things to calm down
My body knew instantly that something was wrong and told me quickly. Listen to your body.
Canadian Sports Trivia Answer
The Ottawa Senators are one of the founders of the NHL and won the Stanley Cup 11 times before moving to St. Louis to become the Eagles.
Gardening
About half of my garlic is well on its way and nearly 40 pea plants have emerged. A couple radishes have started to come up also. We did fail with some lettuce and are waiting for the few carrots, green onions and beets to produce.
I only planted about 1/10 of the garden as I know it can still frost. They say May long weekend is the safe start. Even though I am only 3 years into this, I am feeling like I have learned a few things. I guess we shall see. I might even come to love vegetable. It feels nice eating something I grew.
Camping Season
The weather has been very conducive to getting out camping lately. Back in the healthy days I would have been out a few times camping and fishing by now. It is nice to see others enjoying our beautiful outdoors.

Carbon Error
My apologies last week I wrote about CO2 (carbon dioxide) in the atmosphere but I used the wrong units. I went with % instead of ppm (parts per million). Anyway, a simple search will show that our current levels are one third of the optimum levels for plant growth and the plants produce our oxygen and support our lives.
Riddliculous Answer
(From page 2) M31 is the next combination representing May having 31 days after January, February, March and April having 31, 28, 31 and 30 respectively.
Rising Waters
Sometimes we walk down by Toby Creek. It is a beautiful area. But things are quite a bit more dangerous now as the creeks are all rising and flowing fast. I would hate to see a hound get caught up in that. Be careful around any flowing water right now. There are many floods and a few mudslides around BC right now.
‘

Someone stole all my lamps.’ “Are you mad?”
“No, actually. I am de-lighted’.
Doggy Doo
Being a dog owner, I often wonder what the proper protocol is for picking up poop. I know that where I live, on a busy dog walk corner, I find a lot of business in my yard. That is not really cool as there is a dog baggie dispenser about 100 metres away. What I was wondering is where is it acceptable to not pick up after your pet? In campgrounds? How about that undeveloped lot across the street? Or out in the wilderness on a hiking/biking trail with lots of other animal droppings? But definitely yes, please clean it up from anyone’s yard or any public use area.

Feed Your Brain
You should keep that brain active. Do an occasional puzzle or quiz to let the brain have some fun while still working. One of the nice things about The Valley Peak is the word search and quizzes. They are simple enough but still help to keep the brain active.
I hope you enjoy the familiar themes of the word search. It is kind of fun coming up with topics and lists.
It Was That Year
(From page 4) In 1960, a house was worth $12,700 and a car was $2,600. Aluminum cans, birth control pills and answering machines were used for the first time and the Dallas Cowboys joined the NFL.
Compelled Speech
Again, the World is going crazy. Some people think you should be jailed for using their ‘wrong pronouns’. Things have quickly escalated from acceptance to “do what I say or else”. And the 95% of the public who disagree with that are just letting it all happen and trying to comply regardless of how unnatural it may seem. Traditional values are threatened. Forcing people to say what they do not believe is tyranny. Some would call this an article that ‘promotes hate and violence’ but I just consider the truth. If it was offensive to you that my opinion does not match yours then you might need help lol.
First Response Defibrillators re-pulse me. Bud Plight
It is a bit interesting watching the plight of Bud Light. Apparently they have lost billions of dollars since partnering with Dylan Mulvaney. I guess it was not a very good marketing decision that is seeming to offend a lot of people. I don’t drink beer so I am not a factor but yes, it is interesting to see how so many people have reacted. The World is a finicky place right now. Very tricky to maneuver.
Where Were We
The page 6 photo shows some authentic Mexican dancers at the grand opening of Su Casa, an authentic Mexican restaurant located at the Hoodoos, 5 minutes south of Fairmont.
Bushcraft
I am still addicted to watching bushcraft
shelter building videos. Some are pretty amazing structures and they make it look pretty easy. I just need to have a person cutting logs to the right size for me. The ones that are a bit of a dugout seem very impressive.
I watched a video today where they used the ‘long log’ fire technique to keep a fire burning all through the night. It was very impressive and new to me. Most of them like to use those farrow striking rods to get the fire going. It looks pretty cool. I have practiced with a small one at home. It is a bit tricky but doable.
I am looking forward to a summer adventure that may take a while to complete.
Panic Time
I seem to be way more dependent on my cell phone than I would like to be. It is sad how thoroughly I will scour my home looking for it when it is misplaced. I think I even get a knot in my stomach. I am very disappointed in myself but I do see many people much more addicted than myself. Look up once in a while folks.
Thanks Again
