They will all be making an appearance as Robert Larrabee and the Invermere Legion present an ‘Evening with the Legends’. This guy does amazing impersonations of several artists. He is very talented. The show is pure entertainment all night. Check it out this Friday, October 25 or Saturday the 26th. The Friday show includes a Legion meal. I love food and I love good entertainment. I will be there on Friday night for sure. I really hope you take advantage of your opportunity to go see this show.

Soup Luncheon A reminder that this Friday, October 25, is this month’s ‘Soup & Bun’ luncheon at the Edgewater Community Hall. Only $8 gets you a choice of delicious, hearty homemade soup, a fresh bun or biscuit, dessert and coffee, tea or juice. I should mention that the desserts are quite incredible also. Rockies Hockey The Columbia Valley Rockies have returned from their road trip on a 3-game winning streak. They defeated Castlegar, 100 Mile House and Kamloops while away from the valley for a few games. The Rockies host the Grand Forks Border Bruins this Friday, October 25 at 7:30 pm. The Princeton Posse will be in town on Saturday, game time 7 pm. Sorry if I have had the wrong times for the Saturday games. Anyways, I am hoping the excitement of the home crowd will help them pull off a couple more wins this weekend. Cheering them on always makes a difference. Come on down to the rink and support some exciting junior hockey.

Wednesday Night Trivia How many trivia questions are in the Station Pub’s ad each week? Where can you find the answers? Those are easy questions. Each week the Station hosts Wednesday Night Trivia at 7 pm. The cost is only $3 per player and the entry fee is given out as prizes. There are 40 questions each week. A big tip is that at least one question will be from the previous issue of The Valley Peak so you are off to a good start just by finding the 6 answers in this issue. I usually get that one right. I hope to see you there enjoying an evening out with friends.

EVENING WITH THE LEGENDS INVERMERE LEGION FRIDAY AND SATURDAY
I have lived in and visited quite a few places in Canada and I must say, the Columbia Valley is by far the most beautiful area that I have seen. Other areas may have the odd attraction, a nice waterfall or whatever, but here, everywhere I look is gorgeous. In the morning when the sun crests the Rockies to illuminate Mount Nelson and the Purcells is awe-inspiring. The caps of snow are brilliant, almost inviting. In the evening as the colours of the setting sun hit the peaks of the Rockies and the clouds above is even more amazing. The quick trips to the back country to find beautiful streams (and waterfalls) or golden larch trees or bountiful wildlife are always great days. Foraging for herbs, mushrooms, huckleberries and more. Where else does that happen? Hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, soaking, skiing, golfing, swimming and so much more. I live in a paradise that is defined by its natural beauty. We all do. Unfortunately, very few of us take the time to get out and enjoy what we have. We are so busy just living our lives and trying to get ‘ahead’. Ahead of what, I am not sure. Anyways, remember how lucky we are to wake up in this area. Share your good moments with others to help remind them of where we are every day.

Downtown Invermere businesses will have treats ready for costumed kids this Saturday, October 26, from 11 am to 1 pm (or until the candy runs out). Kids need to have a grown up in tow, so go along for the fun and enjoy the sight of little monsters and ghouls roaming the streets. Participating businesses will have a poster in their window. Thanks to the DOI and businesses for giving the kids something fun to do before the main night. Watson and I went downtown for this last year and it was very impressive. Lots of great kids’ costumes and many huge smiles. I love seeing people get into Halloween. Watson dresses up as a Bassett Hound.

Watson’s Waddle I have been loving life lately. Rob has been trying to get me out for a couple walks each day and Jen at Kootenay Kritters has been incredible for walks and hanging out with me. She also takes me along to meet many of her kritter clients. I love meeting new animals. The sunshine has been amazing. The black part of my markings get really warm when the sun hits them. It feels wonderful. Nearly everyone I meet wants to give me a rub and fill me with love. It is pretty nice feeling that way every day. Thanks for that folks. During all my years on a chain, I never imagined a life like this. I am quite content to be a laid-back, loving companion. I do still love to be heard, so if I am not moaning and groaning then I am probably barking. Just to get your attention. All I want is a little rub or two. Anyways, I hope most of my dog buddies are enjoying the good life. Get your owners out for lots of fresh air and exercise. Teach them the value of love (and treats). Share your wonderful ‘dog’s life’ with them.

It seems that my mental health (and that of many folks) is quite related to my interpersonal relationships. You know, how I get along with others. I build expectations of my friends and associates and rarely can they live up to them. That leaves me disappointed for no valid reason. People are busy with their own stuff. It really sucks being too weak to lift some things and too fatigued to deal with a load of firewood but not wanting to ask for help. Hoping help will just randomly show up rarely seems to be effective. It sucks sitting in a hospital bed (at home) for dialysis for a few hours every second day, hoping that a friend will come for a visit. Why visit me when you can go out for coffee elsewhere? In my little world, life is all about me and I always hope that a few more of my friends care enough to feel the same way. That is a pipe dream. But it sure is amazing when folks do take the time to stop in and check on me. Keeps me inspired to go visit the folks at Ivy and Columbia Houses. It makes a difference.

I often write about the trials and tribulations of dialysis and how sad and lonely it can be. It is a pretty negative mindset. I have not written about the incredible feeling I get every time I am done dialysis. Every second day I get to disconnect from a stressful few hours. Some days it happens so much faster than others. Today it went quite quickly as I was working on this issue. Plus I had no alarms during the run. I forget to appreciate that sometimes. Dialysis is also the thing keeping me alive so although I dread it each time, I see the value in doing it. I guess most people would. Always remember that there are some good aspects to every situation. We just have to find them.
Scheduling I asked the gym trainer to teach me how to do the splits. “How flexible are you?” they asked. “I’m available every day except Thursday,” I replied.
The Thrifty Reporter What do you get when you cross Bambi with a ghost? Well a Bamboo of course. Speaking of bamboo, did you know you can find bamboo and wicker items at the Invermere Thrift Store? I like to go once a week to check out the selection of baskets and decoratative cans that they have in store. These can be used for storage containers, decoration projects, planters, or even trick & treat bags for your little goblins. Every visit to the Thrift Store is like a scavenger hunt adventure and you never know when you might find something from your list. Wishing you and your goblins a spooktacular safe and fun Halloween.

Last week I mentioned that more than 300 people in the East Kootenay alone are having kidney issues. Many folks are in different stages of kidney disease and failure and this is a tricky area to live for stuff like that. Most of the medical support is in Trail with a bit from Cranbrook. You can really feel lost out there. It might be nice to form a kidney support group in the area. It is a tough journey and we all do it a bit differently. There are so many different aspects to it as our kidneys do so much in our bodies. It has been an incredible learning journey for me and I love reviewing it with people. I am open to chat with anyone about it.
Canadian Sports Trivia Answer Congratulations to Jamal Murray as he became Canada’s highest paid athlete this year when he signed a 5-year, $170 million extension on his contract with the Denver Nuggets. To me that is pretty ridiculous and I just pray he does a lot of good stuff with that money. Did I mention I think athletes are overpaid while there are so many folks out there who need a place to live?

World Stroke Day It’s World Stroke Day on October 29, so here’s a reminder of the most common warning signs of a stroke to watch for in your loved ones, using the acronym FAST. Face: is one side of their face drooping? Ask them to smile. Arms: is one arm drifting downward? Ask them to raise both arms. Speech: is their speech slurred or strange? Ask them to repeat a simple phrase. Time: if you see any of these warning signs, call 9-1-1 and get them to a hospital right away. Speedy treatment can make all the difference, so don’t hesitate to get help.

The Exorcist
Pay Your Bills
Get out and enjoy the ‘scariest movie of all time’ this coming Tuesday, October 29 at the CV Centre. Showtime is 7 pm. This Halloween fright night is an adultsonly licensed event hosted by the District of Invermere. Entrance is $5 at the door and costumes are encouraged.
I am the worst businessman I know as far as staying ahead of the game financially. I am always behind on invoicing and sometimes a bit too far behind. It definitely costs me money and keeps me tight on my own bill payments. It is really sad (and immoral) when I see clients that owe me a bit of money who end up avoiding me and advertising in another publication. I always do hope that I get paid by those who know they owe me payments. I am not a big fan of the monetary system but I do need a bit to survive.
Live Music Mondays The Horsethief Creek Pub continues to rock the valley on Monday evenings, 7-9 pm. This October 28 you can check out ‘The Midnight Echo’. The following Monday, November 4 is the ever-popular Open Mic night.
Where Watson Was The photo on page 6 is another shot of Watson out on his daily walk. It is from along the fence at the soccer fields. We often walk along there as it is in our neighbourhood.
Shooting Stars Most meteor showers are caused by the Earth’s orbit crossing paths with a debris trail from a comet or other space object. Although they look like ‘shooting stars’ high in the sky, the particles are actually burning up in our atmosphere only 60 to 100 miles from the ground. The Earth is moving so fast that the energy generated by a piece of debris hitting our atmosphere is incredible. Many of the ones we see are actually as tiny as a piece of dust that we would barely see with our naked eyes here on Earth. Space and the Universe are pretty cool.
Brexit With Britain leaving the EU soon, how much space will be freed up? 1 GB.
Winter is Coming It is getting a bit cooler every night these days. The snow is creeping down the mountains (Fairmont range looks gorgeous), there is a bit of frost on the windshields and the Curling Centre is open for business. Are you ready? At my place, heating costs get out of control through the winter. Fortunately I can save some money by winterizing the place a bit. RONA can help. They have the window film, weather stripping, door sweeps, space heaters, wood pellets and more. Stop in and check it out.

Take a Deep Breath Life brings a lot of stress and it can really get us worked up. What can you do? Things can happen quickly. The experts say to just step back and breathe. Focus on your breathing. In and out. Deep. Over and over. Mindfully breathe. It will lower your heart rate and relax you.
