EGLIN OUTDOOR RECREATION & FAMILY CAMPGROUNDS PRESENT
By Natalie Ewing 96 FSSMarketing
Heads up, Eglin FAMCAMP guests!
Whether you’re camping for a while or just stopping by for an event, just a quick reminder that the woodlands adjacent to the FAMCAMP are home to a small number of bears. Bears pose little to no threat to humans, but knowing what to do if you actually see one is important. Eglin’s Jackson Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) work together, with the help of the Eglin community, to ensure the safety of people and wildlife on base.
Here are three common scenarios and how to deal with each one:
If you’ve recently seen a bear and perceived NO IMMEDIATE THREAT, then contact the FWC Wildlife Alert line at (888) 404-3922 and report the bear sighting.
If you see a bear NOT RETREATING from areas occupied by people or DAMAGING government or personal property, then contact the FWC Wildlife Alert line AND Jackson Guard: (850) 612-0902
If you see a bear ACTING AGGRESSIVELY towards people or pets and/or perceive an EMERGENCY SITUATION, then you should immediately CALL 911
Do your part to protect Team Eglin and our four-legged friends! eglinlife.com/outdoorrec
