Emily Ruopp, AIA has worked as a practicing architect in New York City since 2014 and currently works at Dattner Architects in the Residential Housing Studio. Emily has participated in a range of building projects, including offices, community centers, multi-family housing, single-family residences, and higher education buildings. Committed to the complexity of New York City, Emily has devoted her career to creating a sustainable future through excellence in design of affordable multi-family housing projects. Prioritizing local NYC residents, she advocates for fostering community and connection through carefully curated designs. Emily educates students and develops projects with a keen focus on sustainability, passive design techniques, environmental responsibility, climate change, and equitable design. In 2020, Emily received the Buell Center Paris Prize Award for a project that successfully complies with, interprets, and critically extends the terms and spirit of the 2015 Paris Agreement. In 2019, Emily attended courses at the New School Parsons School of Design for a workshop in the Healthy Materials Lab that focused on sustainably sourced and environmentally responsible materials. As an advocate, Emily actively participates in sustainable practice groups, women in architecture committees, LGBTQ+ rights organizations, and local volunteer groups. Emily received a Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University and a Master of Science degree in Advanced Architecture Design from Columbia University, where she currently teaches studio courses and workshops for master’s students. Previously, Emily has also taught part-time as an Adjunct Professor at New Jersey Institute of Technology instructing undergraduate architecture studios. Outside of architecture, Emily is an avid woodworker, graphic artist, plant enthusiast, and amateur cyclist.
