Durante las próximas semanas se va a hablar mucho de Andalucía. Este último sábado de febrero se celebra el Día de la Comunidad, una fecha especialmente señalada en Casares, municipio que vio nacer en 1885 a Blas Infante, considerado como ‘Padre de la Patria Andaluza’. Para festejar esta efeméride habrá actos culturales e institucionales en casi todos los municipios, incluidos Casares, Manilva y Estepona.

Cada 28 de febrero es una fecha de reivindicación. De recordar que Andalucía, además de sol y playa, es sinónimo de esfuerzo, historia, cultura y convivencia. Pero esos valores deberán ponerse sobre la mesa durante las siguientes semanas. La prematura convocatoria de elecciones autonómicas para el 22 de marzo nos arrastrará a una casi eterna campaña electoral que se prolongará hasta que España elija a su nuevo Gobierno allá por el mes de noviembre –o incluso enero-. Pero antes hay que hablar de Andalucía y de nuestros problemas, de los problemas de una región que es frontera de Europa con África y que tiene en el desempleo una de sus mayores lacras. De los problemas de una comunidad donde el índice de abandono escolar está por encima de la media española, y de los problemas de una comunidad en la que pese a sus buenos resultados turísticos, da la impresión de que el sector no devuelve todo lo que realmente recibe en forma de riqueza a la sociedad.

Por cierto, que esta convocatoria de elecciones autonómicas ha pillado con el pie cambiado a los ayuntamientos que tendrán que concentrar sus inauguraciones justo tras la cita electoral de marzo en apenas 7 días. Será entonces cuando abra sus puertas el Auditorio de Estepona, que servirá para también fomentar la cultura andaluza.

Over the coming weeks Andalucia will be the centre of attention, with this Saturday’s Andalucia Day celebrations commemorating 28 February, 1980, the day on which the majority of residents of Andalucia voted to become an autonomous region of Spain.

This is especially important to Casares, as this was the birthplace of Blas Infante, known as the ‘Father of Andalucia’ whose campaigning for Andalucian nationalism led to his death by one of Franco’s death squads during the opening days of the Civil War in 1936.

Celebrations are held across the region, with many events to mark the anniversary in Casares, Manilva and Estepona.

An early call for elections to the Andalucian Parliament, which has us going to the polls on Sunday 22 March, will begin a long haul of election campaigning, with this followed by the local elections in May, with the general elections slated for the back end of the year, beginning of next.

This early regional election has wrong footed many local councils who had timed the inaugurations of a number of major projects, such as the Estepona Theatre and the Sabinillas Sports Centre which had all been timed for March to give them the maximum leverage for political promotion, but now, due to strict rules from Spain’s electoral college means these events have had to be postponed until after March 22.

I’m sure the satirists in the chirigotas musical groups will be able to get a lot of mileage out of this during next week’s carnival selections in Manilva and Casares.

Once again Talk Radio Europe are holding their annual Telethon in aid of Cudeca Cancer Care Hospice and you are invited to join in on Friday 27th March from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm. The show will be hosted by the TRE team alongside some special guests performing live in the studio.

Business Networking Event to raise funds for charity

The Shaw Marketing Services’ Manilva networking group has announced that 100% of the proceeds from their 18th March event will be donated to The Duquesa Charitable Association of St George.

This monthly, bilingual networking event is usually just for women, but this special fundraising event will be open to all business people on the Western Costa del Sol to give entrepreneurs a friendly and open environment to build their network, find suppliers and make new contacts, whilst raising money for a great cause.

This group is led by marketing and networking expert Georgina Shaw from Shaw Marketing Services, who is passionate about creating a strong group to support the local business community and wants to use this platform to raise money for charity. “I strongly believe that all

businesses should make a positive impact on their community and our March networking event will be a great way to support businesses whilst raising much needed funds.

We hope as many people as possible will come and take part.”

They thanked Rod for his support and superhuman effort as he overcame rain and howling winds during the four days Charity walk.

After the walk, Rod and his supporters enjoyed an evening´s entertainment which included a raffle, karaoke and even fire eaters at O´Callaghan´s bar in Sabinillas The money raised at this event will go towards covering the costs of the free of charge home visits that are carried out each day where Cudeca assist more than 850 people a year with cancer and other incurable illnesses in an advanced stage as well as offering help to their families in the province of Malaga.

El Ayuntamiento concluye los trámites para que la "Venus de Estepona" sea símbolo de la ciudad

La Consejería de Cultura ha dado luz verde para que esta figura, de más de 5.000 años de antigüedad, sea el símbolo de la ciudad. Se trata de la única estatua de esas características hallada en unas excavaciones arqueológicas en la provincia de Málaga El pleno de Ayuntamiento de Estepona aprobó el último trámite para que la conocida como 'Venus de Estepona', una figura de barro de más de 5.000 años de antigüedad encontrada durante una excavación arqueológica en la zona de Arroyo Enmedio, sea considerada uno de los símbolos del municipio. Este último trámite estaba pendiente de la autorización de la Consejería de Cultura de la Junta de Andalucía, que finalmente ha dado el visto bueno a la propuesta de convertir a esta 'Venus' en uno de los símbolos de la ciudad. La concejala del área Sociocultural, María Dolores Espinosa, indicó con anterioridad al plaeno que la pieza fue “un hallazgo arqueológico de especial trascendencia porque es la única de estas características localizadas en la provincia de Málaga”.

Espinosa señaló que la pequeña

estatua prehistórica merecía formar parte de la iconografía de la ciudad porque “nos aporta una valiosa información sobre nuestros orígenes”. En ese sentido, recordó que los expertos han interpretado a la 'Venus' como un amuleto o símbolo de la fertilidad vinculado a los rituales empleados en la época. La pieza, que se exhibe en el Museo Arqueológico Municipal, fue descubierta en agosto de 2011 en los denominados 'campos de hoyos', un tipo de estructura prehistórica que se cuenta por centenares en Estepona y donde también se localizaron varias vasijas de cerámica elaboradas a mano, puntas de flecha de sílex tallado, hachas de piedra pulimentada, cuentas de collar e ídolos de piedra, entre otros objetos.

La 'Venus' de Estepona tiene cinco centímetros de altura y

representa de forma esquemática una figura femenina. Su cabeza aparece como una simple forma ovoide, sin que se manifieste en ella rasgo físico alguno. Igual sucede con sus extremidades superiores e inferiores, que tampoco presentan ningún atributo. Sin embargo, cabe destacar la acentuación de los caracteres sexuales, centrando la atención en los senos, representados con dos formas de espirales.

La edil indicó que la incorporación de la 'Venus' como símbolo de Estepona contribuirá a que la ciudad pueda proyectarse en el exterior como un municipio preocupado por descubrir su pasado, así como por la conservación de su restos arqueológicos y de su patrimonio artístico y cultural, símbolo de la historia que hay tras un municipio como Estepona.

Estepona Town Hall concludes the process to adopt the ‘Venus of Estepona’ as the town’s official symbol The Ministry of Culture has given the green light for the 5,000 year old figure, unearthed during archaeological digs in the municipality, to be adopted as the town’s official symbol Estepona’s local authorities have given the final approval in the process that will allow the ‘Venus of Estepona’, a clay figure more than 5,000 years old which was found during an archaeological excavation in the Arroyo Enmedio, to be adopted as one of the town’s official symbols. This last step was pending approval from the regional government’s Culture Ministry, which has finally given its permission. Culture councillor, Maria Dolores Espinosa, explained that the piece was a find of particular importance as it is the only one of its kind found in the province of Malaga.

Espinosa stated that this small prehistoric statue deserved to become part of the town’s official image as it “provides valuable information about our origins”.

Experts have declared that the Venus is an amulet or fertility symbol used in sacred rituals of that era.

The piece, which is on display at the town’s Municipal Archaeological Museum, was discovered in August 2011 in the so-called ‘Campo de Hoyos’ (field of holes) a form of prehistoric structure found in their hundreds across Estepona, and was found along with several pots, flint arrowheads, polished stone

axes, beads and other stone idols.

The ‘Venus of Estepona’ is five inches tall and is a depiction of the female form. The head appears as a simple ovoid, without any physical features, the same applying to the upper and lower extremities, however the breasts are clearly depicted in the form of two spirals.

The councillor welcomed the incorporation of the ‘Venus’ as a symbol of Estepona as it projects an image of a town keen to discover its past and to preserve its archaeological, artistic and cultural heritage.

El segundo Plan de Asfaltado actuará en 51 calles del municipio El segundo Plan de Asfaltado de Estepona, que alcanzará a un total de 51 calles del municipio, ha comenzado en el mes de febrero. En una primera fase las obras se están centrando en el asfaltado del núcleo urbano de Estepona y, posteriormente, se trasladarán hasta el extrarradio.

Así, los trabajos comenzaron en las calles Infanta Elena, Teodoro Rojo y Francisca Ortíz, donde se está reparando la calzada para poder extender el nuevo pavimento. Las brigadas actuarán a continuación en la zona de Virgen del Mar y San Roque, hasta completar las 51 calles previstas en este plan. El Consistorio anunciará previamente a los vecinos para que no estacionen sus vehículos en las calzadas que van a ser objeto del plan de asfaltado.

Este segundo plan, que tendrá un plazo de ejecución de cuatro meses, intervendrá en las siguientes calles del casco

urbano: Teodoro Rojo, Francisca Ortíz, Infanta Elena, La Nave, San Roque, Ceuta, Cristóbal Ruiz Méndez, Terraza, Blasco Ibáñez, Goya, Córdoba, Zaragoza, Galicia, Mariana Pineda, Portada, Pilar de Farinós, María Magdalena, Fuerzas Armadas, Tajo, Mar y Sierra, Fuente de María Gil, Valle Inclán, Melilla, las avenida Litoral y Juan Carlos I y la plaza Virgen del Mar. En el extrarradio se actuará en las siguientes vías: Levante, Canario, Jilguero, los dos tramos de Grulla, Gorrión, Codorniz, Sierra Morena, Serranía de Ronda, Sierra de Gredos, Emilia Pardo Bazán, Montemayor, Alcornoque, Venus, Marte, Saturno, Chelín, Florín, Lira, Marco, Las Joyas, La Dorada, Fuego y avenida de Las Lomas.

Además de asfaltar las vías que se encuentren en mal estado, se repararán acerados colindantes que se encuentren en mal estado de conservación.

Carriles bici en fase final

Las obras de construcción del nuevo tramo de carril bici, que conecta la avenida del Carmen con el nuevo Parque Ferial y Deportivo estarán listas para el mes de marzo. Actualmente, los trabajos se encuentran por encima del 70 por ciento de su ejecución. Las obras suponen la creación de una vía de dos

kilómetros para la circulación de las bicicletas.

Las brigadas operativas están realizando obras en más de 500 metros del recorrido para crear la superficie de hormigón necesaria para el tránsito de las bicicletas.

En el resto del recorrido sólo se tendrá que pintar y señalizar el itinerario.

Comienzan los trabajos del primer circuito para acrobacias con bicicletas junto al nuevo Parque Ferial y Deportivo Esta nueva instalación, que ofrecerá un recorrido para deportistas con experiencia y otro para los que quieran iniciarse en esta modalidad, entrará en funcionamiento durante el próximo mes de marzo Los amantes del ciclismo acrobático están de enhorabuena.

Este mes de febrero han comenzado en Estepona los trabajos para la creación de un circuito de BMX, una modalidad de ciclismo acrobático, junto al nuevo Parque Ferial, Deportivo y de Ocio Permanente. El concejal adscrito al área de Deportes, Adrián Trujillo, explicaba que esta nueva instalación entrará en funcionamiento durante el mes de marzo y constará de dos niveles. Por un lado, se diseñará un circuito de dificultad alta para deportistas que ya tienen experiencia y donde habrá una gran cantidad de saltos, y por otro, se habilitará un segundo circuito para niños y personas que quieran iniciarse en esta modalidad.

Según ha indicado el Ayuntamiento de Estepona en un comunicado, se trata del primer circuito de Estepona que está orientado exclusivamente a la modalidad de BMX Free Style, que consiste en saltar y hacer acrobacias con la bicicleta en el aire. La instalación contará con

Works have begun on Calles Infanta Elena, Teodoro Rojo and Francisca Ortíz, where the road is being repaired following the extension of the pavement. The road crew will then move onto Virgen del Mar and San Roque completing the 51 streets in this plan. The council would ask people to refrain from parking in this area during the works.

todas las medidas de seguridad y con una señalización que indicará a los usuarios los distintos niveles y la dificultad de cada uno de los tramos.

Además, el circuito está orientado también para los deportistas que practiquen la modalidad de MTB, que cuenta cada vez con más seguidores. Se trata de una disciplina de bicicletas de montaña, pero que tienen el cuadro más inclinado, lo que les permite hacer algunos saltos y transitar por caminos rurales.

Este nuevo circuito completará

las instalaciones del recinto ferial, deportivo y de ocio, que cuenta con 23 pistas deportivas y siete hectáreas de superficie. De hecho, su construcción va a permitir que deportistas locales de BMX como Alberto García, que ha sido campeón a nivel nacional, no tengan que desplazarse a otros municipios para poder realizar sus entrenamientos. En este sentido, también permitirá la organización de eventos relacionados con este deporte, que se encuentra en un momento álgido.

Cycle track nears completion The construction of the new section of bike path that connects avenida del Carmen with the new Sports and Recreation Park will be completed in March. The works involve the creation of a twokilometre track for use by cyclists.

Work is being carried out on more than 500 metres of the track to create the concrete surface necessary for bicycles. The rest of the route will only need to be painted and signage installed.

This is the first such circuit in Estepona that caters solely for BMX Freestyle mode, which involves long jumps with the riders performing tricks on their bikes whilst in the air. The facility has all

the security measures in place plus signage clearly indicating the level of difficulty of each of the circuit’s sections.

The track will allow home grown talent, such as BMX champion rider Alberto Garcia, the opportunity to train in his own town, instead of having to travel to other municipalities to practice.

The circuit is also suited to riders who wish to train in MTB, downhill mountain bike racing. It will also allow Estepona to stage major events in this popular and ever growing sport.

This facility will complete the sports facilities on this site with its 23 sports pitches over seven hectares of land.

De esta manera, se garantizará que tanto los residentes de cada área como los visitantes puedan hacer uso de estos espacios por una tarifa simbólica de un euro al día.

El primero de estos aparcamientos subterráneos se ha proyectado en la plaza Antonia Guerrero.

El recinto tendrá una superficie total de 3.405 metros cuadrados repartidos en tres niveles y una capacidad para unos 150 vehículos. Así, el Consistorio creará “un importante número

de plazas de parking en uno de los enclaves con más densidad de tráfico del municipio”, según apuntó la propia Ana Velasco, edil responsable de Fomento, Infraestructuras y Turismo (FIT)

Por otro lado, también se han iniciado las obras en la céntrica calle Casares, convertida desde hace años en uno de los principales escenarios de la festividad de San Isidro Labrador. Ana Velasco, explicaba que los trabajos que se están acometiendo supondrán la reforma de las infraestructuras y de su pavimentación. Además,

se ejecutarán actuaciones de embellecimiento, tal y como viene sucediendo en todas las obras que se acometen en el casco antiguo, y se renovarán las redes de abastecimiento de agua potable y de aguas residuales.

La calle continuará estando abierta al tráfico rodado y como novedad se colocarán aceras para favorecer el tránsito de los peatones. El objetivo del Consistorio es que la remodelación integral de calle Casares, que tiene un plazo de ejecución de 2 meses y medio, esté finalizada antes de la festividad de San Isidro Labrador.

La Escuela de Hostelería de Estepona estrena restaurante en las instalaciones del Palacio de Congresos Estepona cuenta desde el mes de febrero con un nuevo establecimiento hostelero, aunque en esta ocasión, tiene una particularidad con respecto a los demás. Se trata del restaurante de la Escuela de Hostelería de Estepona que ha abierto sus puertas en las instalaciones que les cede el ayuntamiento de la localidad en el Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos.

Esta iniciativa permite a los alumnos realizar prácticas de cocina y atención al público.

Además, con este restaurante se contribuye a la formación de los alumnos, que se acercan a la realidad laboral atendiendo a los clientes y elaborando menús diarios.

Para esta ubicación, el Consistorio firmó un convenio de colaboración para que la Escuela de Hostelería de Estepona dispusiera de la cocina del Palacio de Exposiciones y así los alumnos aprendiesen

técnicas de gastronomía. El acuerdo se amplía ahora con un salón restaurante abierto al público y una bonificación del 30 por ciento en el precio de los cursos que se ofertan a todas las personas empadronadas en Estepona. El nuevo restaurante de prácticas abrirá de lunes a viernes de 13:30 a 15:30horas y ofrece una carta con un menú (entrante+plato principal+postre) a un precio de 12 euros. De esa cantidad, dos euros irán destinados a fines sociales.

El periodo de plantación terminará entre los meses de abril y mayo, dependiendo de las características de cada planta, por lo que se embellecerá la ciudad con flores de diferentes especies.

Así, el casco urbano de Estepona volverá a recobrar su colorido durante la primavera gracias a la renovación de los geranios en las

Los agentes de la Policía Local patrullarán con chalecos antibalas en la ciudad El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha anunciado que en las próximas semanas va a reforzar la seguridad de los agentes de la Policía Local, dedicados a patrullar las calles, con la adquisición de nuevos chalecos antibalas. Desde el área de Fomento, Infraestructuras y Turismo (FIT) se han iniciado los trámites para dotar a la plantilla de 30 unidades más, que se suman a las diez existentes, lo que supondrá que todas las dotaciones policiales que desarrollan su labor en la calle cuenten con este material.

Así, según destacaba la concejal responsable, Ana Velasco, los riesgos de los agentes se verán reducidos de forma considerable en los diferentes controles de vigilancia que realizan

continuamente, en los eventos multitudinarios, así como en los dispositivos especiales.

Por otra parte, el Ayuntamiento ha adquirido cuatro motocicletas para que los agentes de la Policía

Local puedan circular con mayor rapidez y facilidad por las calles que están siendo remodeladas en el casco antiguo, y que mayoritariamente son “estrechas o de difícil acceso”.

La concejala del área Sociocultural, María Dolores Espinosa, explicaba que esta iniciativa pionera arrancó en marzo de 2013 y tiene como objetivo la realización de pruebas gratuitas a mujeres, de entre 50 y 70 años, para favorecer la prevención de la enfermedad, a la vez que se evitan los desplazamientos hasta el Hospital Costa del Sol. Durante este tiempo, 706 mujeres han participado en este programa de asistencia sanitaria.

Espinosa ha apuntado que las usuarias están siendo atendidas en clínicas del municipio, con las que el Ayuntamiento llegó a

un acuerdo asumiendo el coste de estas pruebas, que consisten en una exploración ginecológica, una citología de triple toma y una ecografía pélvica. “Con estas pruebas, los especialistas pueden realizar un diagnóstico precoz de este tipo de procesos tumorales, evitando así consecuencias más graves”, continuaba la edil.

Las mujeres interesadas en someterse a estas pruebas gratuitas deben estar empadronadas en Estepona y tener una edad comprendida entre los 50 y los 70 años. Deberán hacer efectiva su solicitud en la delegación municipal de Participación Ciudadana, ubicada en la antigua Casa Consistorial, donde tendrán que aportar original y copia del DNI, y cumplimentar la correspondiente solicitud y la autorización para que la clínica realice las pruebas, el estudio y la entrega del informe sobre detección precoz.

La edil señalaba que los trabajos se centrarán en las barriadas de Cancelada e Isdabe durante el mes de febrero y a continuación se actuará en el centro de Estepona. En total, está previsto que se utilicen 6.500 kilogramos de pintura de tráfico para poner a punto los pasos de cebra y otras señales horizontales.

“Con esta acción vamos a garantizar una mayor seguridad

tanto a los peatones como a los conductores, ya que en ocasiones una nula visibilidad de las señales puede dar lugar a accidentes”, apuntaba la responsable municipal. Las calles y avenidas de Cancelada que se verán beneficiadas de esta actuación serán Carmen Conde, Andalucía, España, Guadalmansa, Montemayor y Chorro. En Isdabe se actuará en Poniente, Norte y Campo de Luna.

La Oficina Municipal de Información al Consumidor resolvió el 75 por ciento de las reclamaciones en 2014 La mayoría de las quejas de los consumidores fueron dirigidas a grandes empresas relacionadas con la telefonía móvil La Oficina de Información al Consumidor (OMIC), dependiente de la delegación municipal de Comercio, ha resuelto el 75 por ciento de las reclamaciones registradas en 2014 a través de la mediación.

En total, la oficina registró 922 quejas de las que más de la mitad estaban relacionadas con empresas de telefonía y comunicación. A ellas les siguen las quejas de productos industriales con un 12 por ciento de las denuncias, y las eléctricas y los bancos con más de un 4 por ciento cada una.

Según explicó el edil adscrito al área de Comercio, José Antonio Vílchez, en 2014 se han registrado 116 reclamaciones más que en el año anterior, si bien destacó que “la mayoría de denuncias se dirigen a grandes empresas y multinacionales, y muy pocas al comercio local”. En cuanto al sistema de mediación, el responsable municipal ha explicado que se trata de un procedimiento en el que las dos partes intentan poner fin a un conflicto de forma voluntaria.

En este sentido, el edil de Comercio afirmó que “la oficina

del consumidor presta un servicio totalmente gratuito para el usuario que muchas veces se ve impotente ante la burocracia que exigen muchas compañías para plantear cualquier reclamación”.

A este respecto, señaló de que las quejas que no se resuelvan mediante la mediación se llevan a las juntas arbitrales de consumo, también, de manera gratuita.

Este proceso ofrece plenas garantías para el usuario porque la resolución de dichas juntas son vinculantes y deben acatarse por ambas partes.

Municipal Consumer Information Office resolved 75% of complaints in 2014 The Office of Consumer Information (OMIC) which falls under the municipal department of Commerce, has solved 75 percent of the complaints registered in 2014 through mediation. In total, the office received 922 complaints of which more than half were related to telephone companies and communication. They are followed by complaints pertaining to industrial products, accounting for 12 percent of complaints, and electrical companies and banks with more than 4 percent each.

Numerosos actos culturales e institucionales centran la celebración del Día de Andalucía en Casares El Día de Andalucía en Casares, cuna de Blas Infante, se celebra de una forma muy especial. Así, la Concejalía de de Cultura ha preparado un amplio programa de actividades para la jornada del 28 de febrero. El Ayuntamiento quiere así, un año más, destacar la importancia que para la región tuvo el padre de la patria andaluza. La implicación del municipio es tal, que la mayor parte de los vecinos participan activamente en estos festejos en los que se han previsto actos culturales, institucionles y numerosas actividades festivas.

La agenda del 28 de febrero

comienza a las doce del mediodía con el homenaje que el Ayuntamiento de Casares, agrupaciones políticas y asociaciones locales realizará a la figura de Blas Infante. Tras la ofrenda floral sonará el Himno de Andalucía, que en esta ocasión será entonado por la cantautora, Lucía Soccam.

El fandango casareño también será protagonista de este día festivo dentro del espectáculo que ofrece la Escuela Municipal de Baile. El baile estará acompañado por un cuadro de flamenco compuesto por artistas locales: al cante por Diego Reyes

y Ana Pineda, mientras que Javier Pineda estará a la Guitarra, y Venancio a los platillos.

La fiesta continúa con una degustación de quesos de Casares acompañados por vinos andaluces que serán servidos por un venenciador. Todo ello amenizado con la música de la Orquesta Dynamic desde las 14.00 horas, para que vecinos y visitantes puedan bailar y disfrutar del día en los bares y restaurantes locales. Además, esta jornada el Centro Cultura y la Casa Natal de Blas Infante permanecen abiertos al público de 11.00 a 16.00 h.

The celebrations begin with a homage to Blas Infante, in front of his bust in Plaza de España, during which the Andalucian anthem will be sung, led by the singer Lucía Soccam accompanied by the local government, representatives from all local political groups, associations, and the public. A floral tribute will also be laid.

The fandango casareño will also feature in the celebrations with a dance spectacular performed by the municipal school of dance, accompanied by a flamenco quartet featuring local singers Diego Reyes and Ana Pineda, Javier Pineda on guitar and Benancio on symbols.

The day’s activities continue with a chance to sample the locally produced cheeses, accompanied

by Andalucian wine poured in the traditional Andalucian way.

At 2 pm the music starts, performed

by the popular group ‘Dynamic’ providing an opportunity to dance the afternoon away whilst visiting the local bars and restaurants.

The local Blas Infante museum,

situated in his birthplace will be open from 11 am to 4 pm for visitors to find out more about this important figure in Andalucia’s modern history.

Una aplicación móvil permitirá a los visitantes de Casares acceder a todos los datos de interés del municipio La plataforma, impulsada por el ayuntamiento, contendrá información de utilidad que los turistas podrán consultar de forma sencilla La Concejalía de Turismo del Ayuntamiento de Casares adapta a los nuevos tiempos su información turística con la creación de una aplicación informática que permitirá a los visitantes descargar en sus terminales de telefonía móvil todos los datos de interés para conocer Casares.

Se trata de una iniciativa que estaba recogida en el Plan Estratégico de Dinamización Turística del municipio de Casares y que desarrolla el propio Ayuntamiento de Casares.

El concejal de Turismo, Pepe Carrasco, ha mantenido reuniones con la empresa local y el equipo político y técnico que trabaja en el desarrollo de esta aplicación para dar el visto bueno al diseño.

El Ayuntamiento de Casares lleva trabajando en el proyecto desde el pasado mes de septiembre.

Ya está programado el esquema que incluye diferentes botones que dirigirán a información sobre lugares que visitar, establecimientos turísticos y de restauración, eventos importantes u otra información de interés. A partir de ahora se comienza a introducir toda la información.

De hecho, desde el Ayuntamiento, se ha preparado un formulario que se trasladará a bares, restaurantes, alojamientos

y todos los establecimientos del municipio relacionados con el sector turístico, para que proporcionen la información e imágenes con las que quieren aparecer en esta aplicación.

La intención es que esta herramienta informática esté en funcionamiento a finales del mes de marzo, de cara a la Semana Santa, según ha informado Pepe Carrasco. El edil ha explicado que la misma tendrá una estructura ágil y dinámica, pudiéndose renovar la información de la misma para adaptarla a la realidad de cada momento, en lo referente a la inclusión de nuevos establecimientos o para realizar cambios en los existentes.

Asimismo, será muy fácil de utilizar para los usuarios. Éstos,

sólo deberán introducir su código QR en los teléfonos móviles para descargar la aplicación, que al contar con un geolocalizador les informará del punto en que se encuentra, así como la ruta más cómoda para llegar al lugar deseado, proporcionándoles múltiples opciones y contactos para que los turistas puedan disfrutar del municipio de Casares según sus preferencias Para dar a conocer la aplicación y facilitar su descarga, al mismo tiempo que se publicita, se está elaborando una pegatina con el código QR que se instalará en puntos de información turísticos de Casares y la provincia, así como en los negocios locales, a través de los cuales podrá ser descargada.

Convocan los ‘XIII Premios Blas Infante’ con 50.000 euros para proyectos de cooperación internacional y educación para el desarrollo El Ayuntamiento de Casares vuelve a convocar, por decimotercer año consecutivo, los ‘Premios Blas Infante: Casares Solidario’ coincidiendo con la celebración del Día de Andalucía.

A través de esta convocatoria el pueblo de Casares destina 50.000 euros, del 0,7 por ciento del presupuesto municipal, para subvencionar proyectos de cooperación internacional, a través del premio ‘Casares por la Humanidad’, y proyectos de educación para el desarrollo de ámbito andaluz y nacional, con los premios ‘Casares por Andalucía’ y ‘Casares por España’.

La convocatoria ha sido aprobada recientemente por el pleno aunque el plazo de presentación de proyectos se abre durante un mes tras su publicación en el Boletín Oficial de la Provincia, circunstancia que se espera sea en los próximos días.

Los ‘Premios Blas Infante: Casares Solidario’ fueron creados por el Ayuntamiento de Casares en 2002 como homenaje al insigne casareño, precursor del Idealismo Andaluz, Blas Infante.

La intención es dar a conocer el lado más solidario y humanista del Padre de la Patria Andaluza, de ayudar a los demás a través de la educación, la cultura y un salario digno para que todos los pueblos de la humanidad puedan desarrollarse.

El pueblo de Casares, consciente de que en estos momentos de

crisis todas las instituciones han reducido las ayudas a cooperación, considera que se debe continuar con esta iniciativa porque ahora es cuando más se necesita que la solidaridad de Casares llegue a cualquier lugar del mundo, la crisis económica afecta más al que menos tiene.

Las bases de los premios Blas Infante intentan dar contenido el lema del ideario andaluz: “Andalucía por sí, para España y la Humanidad”, premiando la solidaridad en tres ámbitos geográficos: regional, nacional e internacional.

La entrega de premios será en Casares el 5 de julio coincidiendo con el aniversario del nacimiento de Blas Infante, en Casares el 5 de julio de 1885.

El jurado de estos premios está compuesto por vecinos de Casares y presididos por defensor del pueblo andaluz, Jesús Maeztu.

A mobile application will allow visitors access to all Casares announces the XIII Blas Infante relevant information about Casares The Department of Tourism of Casares is adapting its tourist information to changing times with the creation of a software application that will allow visitors to download useful information about the municipality to their mobile phones.

This initiative is part of the Strategic Plan for Tourism Promotion in the Municipality of Casares, carried out by the Town Hall.

Councillor for Tourism, Pepe Carrasco, has held meetings with local business and the political and technical team working on developing this application to give the go ahead to the design.

The Casares Town Hall has been working on the project since last September. A map of buttons leading to information about

places to visit, tourist hotspots and places to eat, important events and other information has already been programmed into the system.

They are currently entering the remaining information.

The Town Hall has sent out a form to bars, restaurants, accommodations and all establishments in the municipality related to the tourism sector, to provide information and images they would like to appear on this application.

They intend to have the software up and running and fully functional by the end of March, ahead of Easter, according the the councillor. The mayor explained that it will have a flexible structure and dynamics, with the ability to update information constantly and therefore adapt to any changes,

with regard to the inclusion of new establishments or making changes to information about existing ones.

It will also be easy to use for everyone. All you need to do is enter your QR code on your mobile phone to download the application, then a GeoLocator will inform you of it’s location, and the easiest route to the desired location, providing multiple options and contacts so tourists can enjoy the town of Casares according to their preferences.

To publicize the application and make downloading easy, while it is being advertised, a sticker with the QR code is being developed and will be installed at several tourist information points in Casares and around the province and local businesses.

Awards with 50,000 euros allocated for projects of international cooperation, education and development The awards will be announced on July 5, the anniversary of Blas Infante’s birth Casares Town Hall have announced the opening submissions for the thirteenth edition of the annual Blas Infante Awards - ‘Casares in Solidarity’ which is timed to coincide with the Andalucula Day celebrations.

Every year Casares allocates 0.7% of its municipal budget to these awards, with this year a fund of 50,000 euros available to fund international cooperation projects ‘Casares for Humanity’; and educational and development projects through the ‘Casares for

Spain’ and ‘Casares for Andalucia’ categories.

The award were founded in 2002 as a homage to Casares born Blas Infante, the ‘Father of Andalucia’ in keeping with the great man’s humanitarian philosophy of helping others through education and cultural cooperation, and helping the poor and disadvantaged.

The awards ceremony will be in Casares on 5 July to coincide with the birthday of Blas Infante, Casares on July 5, 1885.

La segunda edición del Festival Nuevo Cine Andaluz se celebrará del 8 al 13 de junio El evento, organizado por el Ayuntamiento de Casares y la empresa EcoTourCasares, busca dar apoyo y promoción el cine andaluz como industria cultural El Festival Nuevo Cine Andaluz mantiene la estructura de la pasada edición pero incluye algunas novedades. Se repite la sección oficial de largometrajes, el concurso “Cortos Exprés” para trabajos rodados en Casares en 48 horas, -el fin de semana anterior al Festival-, y un curso de cinematografía que, en esta ocasión, estará enfocado a la redacción de guiones.

De los dos concursos saldrán las obras premiadas por el jurado del Festival y por el público, galardonadas con el Pajarraco de Plata y que, en el caso de los cortos, supondrán además una asignación económica.

Como novedad para esta edición se incluye una sección paralela a la oficial que, entre otras actividades, rendirá un homenaje al cineasta granadino José Val del Omar, abanderado del cine de vanguardia, contemporáneo de Lorca, Cernuda, Zambrano o Renau, cuya obra no empezó a ser descubierta hasta poco antes de su muerte, en 1982, siendo hoy objeto de estudio, exhibida de forma permanente en el Museo Nacional Reina Sofía y reclamada por museos y filmotecas de España y el extranjero.

En la sección paralela también se proyectarán los trabajos realizados en el

marco del Festival dentro del taller de animación Stop Motion que se impartirá los meses previos a los alumnos del Colegio de Enseñanza Pública Blas Infante de Casares.

Una muestra fotográfica de escenarios de las míticas películas rodadas en Almería, un concierto y la Gala Final cerrarán un semana en la que el Festival reivindica la marca Nuevo Cine Andaluz pretendiendo, además, acercar el universo cinematográfico al público de manera menos convencional; como destacó el director Mariano Barroso, invitado de lujo de la pasada edición, aunando tradición, juventud y vanguardia.

Durante la presentación, la alcaldesa de Casares, Antonia Morera, dijo que esta segunda edición del Festival de Nuevo Cine Andaluz avala la buena experiencia que fue la primera edición celebrada el pasado mes de junio, “cumpliendo con creces sus objetivos en cuanto a promoción del cine que se hace en nuestra tierra, asistencia de público, participación y el disfrute de los vecinos, y la proyección que dio al municipio de Casares al exterior”.

Morera resaltó el compromiso del equipo de gobierno de Casares con la Cultura apoyando el evento con todos los medios

municipales, y destinando al mismo una ayuda de 14.000 euros, el doble de la pasada edición. Además desde el Ayuntamiento se está en contacto con otras instituciones, como la Junta de Andalucía y Diputación, para que contribuyan económicamente con el objetivo de que se pueda aumentar el presupuesto de este certamen.

Por su parte, Javier Martos, representante de Ecotourcasares y coordinador del Festival, realizó un repaso a la programación, centrándose en las

novedades.

José Antonio Valencia, responsable de Programación, habló del buen momento que pasa el cine Andaluz, lo que se ha confirmado en la reciente edición de los Goyas 2015. Además, destacó que el Festival de Nuevo Cine Andaluz tiene como fin promocionar películas que no tiene cabida en las grandes salas, un cine que se hace desde abajo pero que están teniendo bastante éxito internacional.

There will also be a screening of projects carried out by students of the ‘Stop Motion’ animation workshop to be held in the months before the festival at the Blas Infante School in Casares.

A photographic exhibition of scenes from mythical films shot in Almería, a concert and the Final Gala will bring the event to a close, after a week aiming to strengthen the Nuevo Cine Andaluz brand and also open up the cinematic universe to the public in a less conventional way; which was highlighted by director Mariano Barroso, special guest from last year, combining tradition, youth and modernity.

During the presentation, the mayor of Casares said that this second edition of the Festival Nuevo Cine Andaluz will endorse the success of the first edition which was held last June, "more than fulfilling its objectives in terms of promoting films made in our area, public attendance, participation and entertaining residents, and the promotion of Casares

internationally".

Antonia Morera highlighted the commitment of the government team of Casares with Culture supporting the event with all local media, and providing 14,000 euros in funding, twice that of last year.

The town hall is also in contact with other institutions such as the Junta de Andalucia and the Diputación to contribute financially to increase the budget for this Festival.

Javier Martos, Ecotourcasares representative and Festival coordinator gave an overview of the program, focusing on the latest news.

Casares acoge los días 27 y 28 de febrero un torneo de Futbol-7 con equipos de toda Andalucía El estadio municipal ‘1º de Mayo’ albergará el el ‘I Torneo Blas Infante Villa de Casares’, que se celebra los días 27 y 28 de febrero desde las 10 de la mañana con la participación de 40 equipos de categorías Bebés, Prebenjamín, Benjamín y Alevin pertenecientes a 16 clubes de toda Andalucía Se trata de un campeonato pensado para equipos de alto nivel, según señaló el concejal de Deportes, Pedro González. Los

conjuntos llegarán de diferentes provincias andaluzas como Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, Huelva y Málaga. En total participarán 16 clubes, que atraerán a Casares durante las dos jornadas a más de 600 jugadores, lo que va a significar más de 1200 personas, sumando a los deportistas los acompañantes.

Con el objeto de que estas personas puedan visitar el pueblo de Casares, explica Pedro González, desde el Ayuntamiento se

va a poner un autobús que irá cada hora desde el campo de futbol al Peñón Roaro. Un servicio que también podrá ser utilizado por los vecinos de Casares para ver los encuentros deportivos.

El I Torneo Blas Infante Villa de Casares está organizado por la Concejalía de deportes del Ayuntamiento de Casares y Personal Sport. Cuenta con la colaboración de la Unión Deportiva Casares, Cafetería Mar y Sierra, y Protección Civil de Manilva.

Casares to host a 7-a-side football tournament on February 27 and 28 featuring teams from across Andalucia The municipal ‘May I’ stadium will be the venue for the I Blas Infante Tournament 7-a-side football tournament on February 27 and 28 with 40 teams, from some 16 clubs, competing across a number of age categories from 10 in the morning.

According to Pedro Gonzalez, the Casares councillor for sport, the tournament is aimed at the region’s top level teams, with clubs entering from Cadiz, Cordoba, Granada, Huelva and Malaga.

With some 600 players plus trainers, supporters, and officials the tournament is expected to bring around 1200 visitors over the

weekend of the competition.

The event is being organised by Casares town hall, in collaboration

with UD Casares Football Club, Cafetería Mar y Sierra, and the Manilva Civil Protection brigade.

Los vecinos de Casares podrán beneficiarse de nuevas subvenciones para el IBI El equipo de gobierno de Casares ha anunciado su intención de volver a sacar ayudas económicas para el Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles (IBI).

Tras la aprobación del presupuesto municipal, los equipos político y técnico del Ayuntamiento han comenzado a trabajar en las bases de la

nueva convocatoria. Como sucediera el año pasado, para la concesión de estas ayudas será requisito indispensable estar al corriente del pago de deuda con el Ayuntamiento y tener los recibos domiciliados.

Se trata del segundo año que el consistorio casareño saca ayudas a los impuesto municipales. En

2014 se beneficiaron gracias a estas medidas un total de 1.455 familias con un ahorro medio de 106 euros en cada recibo.

Las ayudas, por un 20% del coste del recibo del IBI (hasta un máximo de 200 euros), supusieron un gasto municipal de 154.805 euros.

New IBI subsidies for residents of Casares Casares Town Council has announced new subsidies for the IBI local property taxes.

Following the approval of the municipal budget, the local authorities are working on the details of the subsidies which provided discounts last year for

a total of 1,455 families with an average saving of 106 euros for each household.

The discount of 20% of the total IBI (up to a maximum of 200 euros), represented a total spend by the council of 154,805 euros.

El Ayuntamiento de Casares insiste a la Junta de Andalucía para que agilice la nueva adjudicación del puente sobre el río Manilva La alcaldesa de Casares, Antonia Morera, ha solicitado una cita con el delegado de gobierno Andaluz en Málaga, José Luis Ruiz Espejo, para pedir que se agilicen los trámites que permitan adjudicar la instalación de la estructura del puente que unirá las costas de Casares y Sabinillas.

Recordamos que el Ayuntamiento de Casares pidió al Consorcio Qualifica el pasado mes de noviembre la rescisión del contrato ante el reiterado incumplimiento por la empresa adjudicataria de los plazos de finalización.

El equipo de gobierno de Casares teme que los cambios del equipo político de la Consejería de Turismo retrasen el proceso burocrático que supone la nueva adjudicación del proyecto.

Antonia Morera ha manifestado lo importante que es para los vecinos de Casares Costa la instalación de este puente, un proyecto que es una prioridad para el Ayuntamiento de Casares y lamenta que no esté en sus manos agilizar las gestiones para que pueda ser una realidad a corto plazo.

Un argumento que la alcaldesa de Casares desea exponer en la reunión que espera mantener próximamente con Ruiz Espejo, teniendo en cuenta que el Consorcio Qualifica, dependiente de

la Consejería de Turismo de la Junta de Andaucía, cuenta con la partida presupuestaria y es quien tiene la potestad para acelerar los trámites a fin de que se instale lo antes posible el puente sobre el río Manilva.

Por lo pronto, desde el Ayuntamiento de Casares, explican en un comunicado, “se ha hecho lo posible para conectar a los vecinos de Casares Costa con Sabinillas, adecuando y mejorando con sus propios medios pasos peatonales a ambos lados del puente de la carretera”.

According to the local authorities the bureaucratic process is being delayed due to the breakdown of the coalition between PSOE and IU in the Andalucian regional government.

Following a request from the Casares Town Hall to the Qualifica Consortium last November to terminate the contract with the original company due to the repeated failure to meet completion deadlines, a new award has yet to be made. This is due in part to the changes in political leadership at the Junta, which is one of the partners in the Qualifica Consortium, with the appointment of Luciano Alonso as the new Tourism Minister.

The Mayor of Casares, Antonia Morera, has contacted Izquierda Unida representative at the Andalucian Parliament, José Antonio Castro, to request he mediate with the Minister to request he speed up procedures so that the bridge can be completed as soon as possible.

The installation of the bridge is of huge importance to the residents of Casares Costa, and is a top priority for the Casares Town Hall which, although not directly responsible for its execution, is doing all it can to make it a reality in the very near future.

Meanwhile other works have been carried out to improve connections between Casares Costa and Sabinillas with improved footpaths on both sides of the main road where it crosses the Rio Manilva.

The third Short Stories Competition announced for students at Blas Infante School

The CEIP Blas Infante Casares PTA, in collaboration with the school and the town’s Department of Education, has announced the third Short Story Competition for students in primary and secondary education. This initiative aims to stimulate the students’ creative side and cultivate their literacy skills, which are fundamental in their learning.

The competition is open to students enrolled in the school during the current academic year, and there are four different categories: 1st cycle of primary Students in 1st and 2nd year, 2nd cycle of primary students in 3rd and 4th year, 3rd cycle of primary students in 5th and 6th year and students of 1st and 2nd year of secondary education.

The theme of the stories is open and should be written in Spanish. The deadline for entries is March 21.

Curso para obtener el título de socorrista organizado por SOSMediterráneo y el Ayuntamiento de Casares Abierto el plazo de inscripción para obtener el título acreditativo de Socorrista Acuático de la Consejería de salud. Un curso que vuelve a organizar la empresa local SOS Mediterraneo, en colaboración con la Concejalía de Juventud y Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Casares.

La formación se impartirá en Casares los sábados desde el 25 de abril al 31 de mayo. Un total de 125 horas durante las que los asistentes podrán aprender nociones de anatomía y fisiología, teoría de primeros auxilios, soporte vital básico, uso de defibrilador, teoría del salvamento acuático, legislación civil y laboral, prevención de riesgos, psicología aplicada al salvamento, seguridad e higiene en el trabajo.

Asimismo, para superar los

requisitos necesarios para obtener el título de socorrista, los asistentes deberán superar pruebas de 100 metros en salvamento con ropa; 150 metros en rescate con aletas; 100 metros combinada con buceo; 75 metros rescate combinada con desplazamiento terrestre y material de salvamento; buceo y rastreo; y 50 metros de rescate de maniquí.

Por otro lado y coincidiendo con este curso se va a realizar otro de reciclaje, previsto para los días 23 y 24 de mayo, dirigido a los alumnos que superaron el pasado año, que es imprescindible para que pueda seguir trabajando.

Los participantes aptos conseguirán un título acreditativo según el R. Decreto 23/1999 de la Consejería de Salud de la Junta de Andalucía y la orden de 7 de

Junio de 1994, y además serán incluidos en la Bolsa de Empleo de SOSMediterraneo, una empresa local que presta servicio de socorrismo en múltiples piscinas de urbanizaciones de la zona y que en los dos años anteriores ha sido concesionaria de los servicios de salvamento de las playas de Casares. De hecho, en los dos años anteriores la empresa ha contratado a un 80 % de las personas que han formado.

Casares contará con un cine club juvenil e infantil La Asociación de Madres y Padres de Alumnos (AMPA) del Colegio Blas Infante de Casares está organizando un Cine Club para los niños y niñas de la localidad. Las películas se proyectarán en el Centro Cultural Blas Infante, los domingos a mediodía, entre los meses de marzo y abril, para continuar en octubre y noviembre.

Las sesiones estarán dirigidas especialmente a un público infantil y juvenil, comprendido entre los 3 y los 13 años, que son las edades de los alumnos del colegio. La entrada será de 1 euros para socios del AMPA, y 2 euros para el resto.

El cine club estará gestionado por voluntarios del AMPA,

con el apoyo del colegio, y del Ayuntamiento de Casares, que cederá de manera gratuita el uso de las instalaciones, además de financiar el pago de las 16 películas, con una partida prevista de 2.000€.

El cine club es una iniciativa educativa que se enmarca dentro del programa de actividades de la asociación de padres, para contribuir en la mejora del entorno educativo de Casares.

El AMPA de Casares colabora con el Colegio en actividades educativas y lúdicas, además de recaudar fondos para ayudar a los socios, y realizar donaciones para la compra de material escolar del colegio.

Casares to create Film Club for local youngsters The Parent’s Association of the Blas Infante School in Casares is organizing a Film Club for young people in the municipality. The films will be screened at the Centro Cultural Blas Infante, Sundays at noon, between the months of March and April, to continue in October and November.

The sessions will be specifically aimed at children and young people, between 3 and 13, which are the ages of the students at the school. The entrance is 1 euro for members of the Parent’s Association, and 2 euros for everyone else.

The film club will be run by volunteers from the association,

with the school and the town hall’s support, who have provided free use of the facilities, in addition to financing payment of the 16 films, with a budget of € 2,000 .

The film club is an educational initiative that is part of the programme of activities created by the Parent’s Association to contribute to the improvement of the educational environment in Casares.

Manilva celebra el Día de Andalucía con múltiples actividades culturales

M

anilva celebrará el Día de Andalucía con distintos actos desde este jueves, 26 de febrero, hasta el domingo 1 de marzo. Teatro, música y degustaciones copan un programa que se desarrollará en distintos espacios de la localidad.

Así, el Centro de Interpretación "Las Viñas" de Manilva acogerá este jueves la obra de teatro el circo a partir de las seis de la tarde. Se trata de una obra enfocada a los más pequeños en la que podrán interactuar con los actores. El viernes los ciudadanos podrán disfrutar de la actuación del cantaor granadino Juan Pinilla Martín, en el Centro de Interpretación "Las Viñas" de Manilva a partir de las nueve de la noche.

Juan Pinilla, nació en HuétorTájar, el 2 de enero de 1986, es un cantaor de flamenco granadino, crítico, escritor, investigador y columnista, ganador del Festival del Cante de las Minas, con el premio Lámpara Minera, nominado a los Premios Grammy Latinos 2014 en la categoría de mejor disco de flamenco y un artista comprometido con las causas sociales.

El mismo 28 de febrero, el Día de Andalucía, comenzará con un pasacalles a cargo de la Banda Municipal de Música a partir de las once y media de la mañana.

Poco después, a las doce del mediodía, tendrá lugar el acto institucional conmemorativo de esta importante fecha para todos los andaluces. Tras los discursos a cargo de las autoridades, se procederá a la izada de la bandera de Andalucía, con la interpretación del himno andaluz a cargo de la Banda de Música, los coros municipales, mientras que la Asociación Luisana hará lo propio en lengua de signos.

Posteriormente, desde las 13:00 horas, actuarán la Banda de Música, los coros de Manilva y Sabinillas y la Escuela de danza de Eva Cabrera en el Pabellón de Usos Múltiples. En este mismo escenario se desarrollarán estas actividades y habrá animación para los más pequeños.

A las dos habrá degustación de productos típicos de la gastronomía manilveña, como la sopa campera y el vino de la localidad.

El programa se retoma a las tres de la tarde con una actuación a cargo Escuela Municipal

de Baile. Después, a las 16:30 horas, la Orquesta de la Escuela Municipal de Música deleitará con sus canciones a los asistentes, y a las 17:30 horas pisarán las tablas las alumnas de la Escuela de Baile de Cristina Seguín.

A las seis y media de la tarde, vuelve al escenario la Orquesta

de la Escuela Municipal de Música, para cerrar la jornada la Orquesta ‘El Secreto Thomas Onfield’, a las 20:00 horas.

of cultural, festive and official events and activities across the municipality.

The programme begins on

Thursday at 6 pm with a children’s interactive theatrical circus performance in the Manilva Wine Centre.

On Friday there will be a concert by the Granada singer Juan Pinilla Martin from 9 pm in the Wine Centre. Juan Pinilla is a flamenco singer from Granada and is well known for the strong social messages in his music. He was nominated for a Latin Grammy at last year’s awards for best flamenco album. He is also a critic, writer and investigative journalist.

On Saturday 28 February, Andalucia Day, the celebrations begin at 11.30 am with a procession by the Manilva Town Band. A little later at 12.30 pm there will be the official raising of the Andalucian Flag accompanied by the Andalucian anthem performed by the Town Band, local choirs and the disabled association Luisana who will perform it in sign language.

This will be followed by performances by the Town Band, the Manilva and Sabinillas Choirs

and the Eva Cabrera Dance School in the Pavillion next to the football ground in Manilva. There will also be children’s entertainment, and an opportunity to sample typical local cuisine and wines.

The programme continues at 3 pm with a dance performance by the Municipal Dance School, followed at 4.30 by music from the Municipal Music School Orchestra, with the turn of the students of the Cristina Seguin Dance School to entertain the audience.

At 6.30 pm the Municipal Music School Orchestra return to the stage, and finally the covers band will ‘El Secreto de Thomas Onfield’ will perform live on stage from 8 pm.

Finally on Sunday 1 March there will be performance by the Municipal Theatre School, directed

by Inés Gandiaga, in the Wine Centre theatre from 7 pm.

Inician el proceso para adjudicar la Los pensionistas con gestión del complejo deportivo de viviendas en alquiler podrán disfrutar de un Sabinillas El pleno del ayuntamiento aprueba el pliego de condiciones para las nuevas instalaciones

El Ayuntamiento de Manilva, a través de un pleno extraordinario, ha aprobado la adjudicación por procedimiento abierto de la gestión del servicio público para la explotación y mantenimiento de las instalaciones deportivas situadas en Sabinillas y las cuatro pistas de pádel situadas en el campo de fútbol de las Viñas en Manilva.

El consistorio pretende, con este paso, optimizar la gestión del nuevo recinto deportivo para ofrecer a los ciudadanos un servicio acorde a sus necesidades manteniendo todos los estándares de calidad.

Así, se establecerá un canon

mínimo, que deberá abonar el concesionario a la administración, de 266.379,60 € para los 15 años de duración del contrato.

El alcalde de Manilva, Diego Urieta, explicó este punto y quiso dejar claro que el objetivo principal es ofrecer a la ciudadanía un buen servicio y que los profesionales que lo gestionen estén a la altura de un complejo de esta magnitud.

Para la Ciudad Deportiva de Sabinillas se propondrá un horario ajustado a los clientes que podrían ser de lunes a sábado de 8.00h a 22.00h y los domingos de 9.00h a 14.00h con unos precios económicos de

complemento económico La delegación de Asuntos Sociales, cuya concejal responsable es Paqui López, ha anunciado un complemento anual de 525 euros para titulares de pensiones no contributivas que residan en una vivienda de alquiler.

Esta aportación es un complemento de pensión dirigido a aquellas personas pensionistas de jubilación e invalidez de la Seguridad Social, en su modalidad no contributiva, que acrediten carecer de vivienda en propiedad y tener como residencia habitual una vivienda alquilada a propietarios que no tengan con él relación de parentesco hasta tercer grado.

Para beneficiarse de estos complementos los beneficiarios deberán tener reconocida una pensión no contributiva de

jubilación o invalidez en la fecha de la solicitud y en la fecha de resolución; carecer de vivienda en propiedad; ser el arrendatario de la vivienda en la fecha de la solicitud; no tener con el arrendador de la vivienda alquilada relación conyugal o de parentesco hasta el tercer grado ni constituir con aquél una unión estable y de convivencia con análoga relación de afectividad a la conyugal; tener fijada su residencia habitual en la vivienda alquilada; si en la misma vivienda alquilada conviven dos o más personas que tuvieran reconocida una pensión de la Seguridad Social en su modalidad no contributiva, sólo tendrá derecho a este complemento aquella que sea titular del contrato de arrendamiento o, de ser varios, el primero de ellos.

Además de este asunto, otro de los puntos tratados y que cerró la sesión fue la propuesta para el incremento de la cobertura en accidentes de trabajo, hospitalización e intervención quirúrgica de los empleados municipales.

El alcalde de Manilva, Diego Urieta, instó a todos los grupos políticos a participar en este proceso, al igual que ya hizo ofreciéndoles un borrador tanto del presupuesto municipal como de la bolsa social de trabajo para que hicieran sus alegaciones y sugerencias.

ollowing a meeting of the full council, Manilva Town Hall has approved the process to award, by open tender, the concession for the management and operation of the Sports Centre in Sabinillas and the paddle centre in the Las Viñas football ground.

The successful candidate will pay

€ 266,379 for the 15 year concession.

The Mayor of Manilva, Diego Urieta, explained that the aim is to appoint a professional management company which will operate the centre at its full potential, providing a valuable service for the people of Manilva.

An extensive schedule is planned for the centre, with opening hours of 8 am to 10 pm Monday to Saturday, and 9 am to 2 pm on Sundays.

Membership will be at the affordable price of 40 euros per person per month; 60 euros for family membership.

Manilva’s Social Welfare Department, headed by councillor Paqui Lopez, announced an annual subsidy of 525 euros pensioners living in rental accommodation.

The subsidy is intended for those people who have retired or on a Social Security disability pension, and who do not own their own

home and rent their accommodation from someone who is not a relation.

If there are more than one people in receipt of a state pension residing in the same rental property, then the person whose name is on the rental agreement that is entitled to receive the subsidy.

Manilva recibirá más de 400.000 euros del Plan de Asistencia y Cooperación

l alcalde de Manilva, Diego Urieta, ha firmado el Plan de Asistencia y Cooperación 2015 en la sede provincial de la Diputación Provincial de Málaga.

La partida que corresponde a Manilva asciende a 401.014,25 euros, cantidad que será desglosada para actuaciones en materias de infraestructura y obras, cultura y educación, fiestas y turismo, deportes, asistencias técnicas y otras actividades y servicios de competencia municipal.

La reurbanización y peatonalización de la plaza Ginebra en Sabinillas será una de las obras más importantes que se acometerán en este plan, con un importe de 216.346,36 euros.

La Cultura y la Educación tienen una subvención de 33.756,17 euros, y Fiestas y Turismo contará con 36.088,42 euros.

El deporte tiene un importe aprobado de 36.518,04 euros que se repartirán en coordinación actividades escuelas deportivas, circuitos de baloncesto, bicicleta y natación, reconocimientos médicos, dinamización de senderos, licencias, artitrajes etc.

La asistencia técnica en este plan

2015 tiene asigando 50.870,70 euros; y hay una partida de 27.434,56 euros que se repartirán en actividades y servicios de competencia municipal tales como cartelería, colocación de plantas, recogida, albergue y manutención de animales, entre otras.

Convocan un nuevo curso de manipulador de alimentos

a delegación de Fomento de Empleo del Ayuntamiento de Manilva ha organizado un nuevo curso de Manipulador de Alimentos de Alto Riesgo, que se desarrollará el próximo sábado 14 de marzo, en el Centro de Formación de

Sabinillas, frente a Correos. Éste se impartirá de 9.00 horas a 15.00 horas y tendrá un precio de 40 euros, de los cuales habrá que anticipar 10 en el momento de la inscripción, que se podrá realizar hasta el 11 de marzo.

La reserva de plaza se puede

l alcalde de Manilva, Diego Urieta, mantuvo una reunión en Málaga con el vicepresidente de la Diputación Provincial y la diputada de Medio Ambiente en la que se abordó el desarrollo del sendero litoral que unirá toda la Costa del Sol. Este encuentro fue concertado por el propio Urieta aprovechando su visita a FITUR, ya que para el municipio puede ser un atractivo más al turismo de sol y playa, permitiendo ampliar una oferta deportiva, saludable y en pleno contacto con la naturaleza.

Según el ayuntamiento, la idea de este importante proyecto surgió de Manilva y es por ello por lo

que el primer edil ha trasladado al citado ente supramunicipal la necesidad de agilizar la tramitación para que se pueda utilizar al estar realizado y articulado en un 90%.

El recorrido general tendrá 184 kilómetros, la distancia que separa los municipios malagueños de Manilva y Nerja.

Este trayecto se podrá hacer a pié o en bicicleta.

En el caso de Manilva habrá tres actuaciones importantes, que serán la ampliación de los arroyos del Estanquillo y La Peñuela, y la creación de un pasaje en el arroyo Indiano, además de un enlace entre la Colonia y el Puerto de La Duquesa.

Manilva Town Hall seeks more progress on Malaga’s Coastal Path project The Mayor of Manilva, Diego Urieta, recently met with the Malaga Provincial Government’s Vice-President and Councillor for the Environment to discuss the development of the coastal path linking Manilva and Nerja.

The meeting was arranged during their visit to FITUR as this is important to Manilva as it will extend the facilities available to visitors, providing access to the coastlines natural environment along with other active pursuits.

Manilva was one of the original authors of this project and it is for this reason that it is seeking quicker progress.

The coastal path, once completed, will connect Manilva and Nerja, with 184 kilometres of path open to both pedestrians and cyclists.

In Manilva there are three major works required, these being the widening of the paths over the Estanquillo, La Peñuela and Indiano streams.

El Pabellón de Usos Múltiples albegará las celebraciones del Carnaval el 7 de marzo Un año más Manilva volverá a disfrazarse para el Carnaval. El primer evento programado será a las cuatro de la tarde, cuando tenga lugar lugar la tradicional cabalgata del Carnaval con carrozas, animación infantil, música y bailes brasileños, que recorrerá las calles de los tres núcleos de nuestro término municipal, aportando una dosis variada de color.

La cabalgata partirá del Monumento del Castillo de la Duquesa. A continuación se dirigirá a Sabinillas, dónde iniciará su recurrido desde la Colonia Infantil. Después, y para terminar su recorrido, las carrozas se trasladarán a Manilva, y partiendo de la rotonda de entrada, recorrerán las calles Mar, Jimena y Cruces hasta llegar al consultorio médico. Desde allí la comitiva se trasladará al Pabellón de Usos Múltiples.

Todos los niños disfrazados podrán acompañar esta cabalgata subidos en las carrozas. Una vez finalizado el pasacalles, se continuará con el concurso de disfraces infantiles, cuya inscripción se podrá realizar

desde las cinco de la tarde en el Pabellón de Usos Múltiples de Manilva. En la inscripción, cada niño disfrazado recibirá un ticket canjeable por una merienda.

Durante la tarde, y como novedad, todos los niños que lo deseen podrán participar en los talleres que se desarrollarán en el mismo recinto, además de un teatro infantil interactivo sobre el mundo del Circo. Los premios del concurso de disfraces se entregarán mediante un sorteo dónde se repartirán regalos entre

los más pequeños.

Una vez finalizado el concurso de disfraces infantil, la música amenizará la fiesta hasta el comienzo del concurso de disfraces de adultos a partir de la medianoche, tanto en su modalidad individual, como colectiva. Para este certamen, las inscripciones se iniciarán a las once de la noche.

Tras la deliberación del jurado y entrega de premios, la música continuará hasta altas horas de la madrugada.

Del 3 al 8 de Marzo se celebrará la Semana De La Mujer La delegación de Asuntos Sociales, dirigida por Paqui López, informa sobre las actividades confeccionadas para la Semana de la Mujer.

Dará comienzo el martes 3 de marzo con la tradicional marcha solidaria. Será a partir de las 10:30 h desde la plaza del Cali en Sabinillas.

Ya por la tarde, de 16:00 h a 17:00, habrá clases de yoga en Villa Matilde, impartido por Cristina, para posteriormente, de 17:00 a 18:00 h, puedan disfrutar de la risoterapia, taller impartido por Magdalena.

El miercoles 4 de marzo, Villa Matilde acogerá una master class de zumba de 16:00 a 18:00.

Manilva celebrates Carnival on 7 March Manilva’s annual Carnival celebrations will be held on Saturday 7 March, kicking off at 4 pm with the traditional Carnival Cavalcade featuring floats, children’s entertainment, music and Brazilian dancers, bringing a dose of colour and excitement to the streets of Manilva.

The cavalcade begins at the Castle in Castillo de la Duquesa, wending its way through the streets of Castillo before moving on to Sabinillas where it sets out from the La Colonia end of the village. Finally the fun and frolics moves onto Manilva Town where it sets out from the roundabout at the bottom of the town, taking in calles Mar, Jimena and Cruces finishing at the Pavillion next to the football ground in Manilva.

The programme begins on Tuesday 3 March with the traditional charity walk, setting off at 10.30 am from Plaza Cali on the promenade in Sabinillas.

La Peña Flamenca de Manilva tendrá su sede en la ‘Casa de Los Torres’ Los responsables de la Peña Cultural Flamenca de Manilva se reunieron recientemente con el alcalde de Manilva, Diego Urieta y la Delegada de Cultura, Eva Galindo, con el objetivo de abordar distintos asuntos de interés para estos vecinos, que trabajan por mantener una de las tradiciones más ancestrales de Andalucía. A este encuentro también asistió el concejal de Infraestructura y Obras, Mario Jiménez.

Urieta hizo extensiva a esta asociación su deseo de que representantes de la Peña Flamenca asistan a las instalaciones de la ‘Casa de los Torres’, para poder ver "in situ" sus dependencias y la ubicación señalada como sede para este colectivo, antes de que comience la reforma que se va a

acometer en dicho edificio para su definitiva puesta en valor.

Entre otros muchos asuntos, los representantes y miembros de la directiva de la Peña Cultural Flamenca mostraron el programa de actividades previstas para el primer semestre del año. Fruto

de esta reunión, el alcalde se comprometió a prestar su ayuda otorgando una subvención a este colectivo; motivo por el cual esta asociación mostró su satisfacción a dicho acuerdo y a las atenciones recibidas por los representantes municipales.

Manilva’s Flamenco Society to have a new home in the ‘Casa de Los Torres’ Representatives from Manilva’s Flamenco Society met recently with the Mayor of Manilva, Diego Urieta, and the Councillor for Culture, Eva Galindo, to discuss a number of matters of interest to the society, which maintains some of Andalucia’s oldest cultural traditions. The meeting was

Mayor Urieta gave his commitment to continue the Town Hall’s collaboration with the Society during a visit to the site of their new headquarters at the ‘Casa de los Torres’ ahead of its final

refurbishment.

The Flamenco Society also took the opportunity to present the programme of events and activities scheduled for the first half of the year. The Mayor also took this opportunity to pledge his support with a grant to assist the group in their work.

Comienzan las charlas del programa Andalucía Orienta El programa Andalucía Orienta ha comenzado a desarrollarse en el municipio de Manilva después de ser anunciado recientemente por el consistorio. El alcalde de la localidad, Diego Urieta; el concejal de Fomento de Empleo y Juventud, Marcos Ruiz; y la edil de Asuntos Sociales, Paqui López, asistieron a los prolegómenos de la charla sobre las nuevas oportunidades de búsqueda de empleo impartida a una veintena de jóvenes.

En este encuentro se abordaron temáticas como la obtención de herramientas para desarrollar la trayectoria profesional; cómo adaptarse a las demandas del mercado, o definir objetivos profesionales analizando el contexto socioeconómico y personal, entre otras.

También se tratará en este contexto temas como la iniciación a la informática y su aplicación a la búsqueda de empleo a través del currículum; la carta de presentación, y la agenda de búsqueda de

empleo.

Marcos Ruiz destacaba la importancia que tiene para el municipio de Manilva contar con el servicio del programa Andalucía Orienta y las numerosas posibilidades que ofrece.

Por su parte, el alcalde manil-

veño subrayó como uno de los objetivos principales del Equipo de Gobierno, que no es otro que cumplir con el objetivo de apoyar a la población activa local para su inserción en el Mercado Laboral, asesorándola en la búsqueda de empleo.

Campaña para fomentar el padrón en Manilva

Te recordamos que como ciudadano de Manilva has de empadronarte en la ciudad en que vives o trabajas, así como comunicar los cambios de domicilio que lleves a cabo.

El Ayuntamiento de Manilva ha iniciado una campaña informativa para que los ciudadanos se empadronen en el municipio, lo que les reportará “importantes beneficios”, según el concejal de Estadísticas, Marcos Ruiz. El edil recordó que los ciudadanos que se empadronen en el municipio podrán optar a ayudas en impuestos públicos como el IBI, así como inscribirse en cursos, talleres y actividades municipales. También podrán matricular a sus hijos en los colegios públicos, obtener certificados de residencia, seguridad social o ayudas económicas y sociales.

Estar empadronado también da derecho a votar en periodos electorales, optar a ayudas por desempleo, darse de alta como autónomo o formalizar matrimonios civiles.

Además, tienes que recordar que en función de los que estemos empadronados, así recibiremos recursos económicos de Diputación y del Estado. Tu presencia sí es importante para todos; de ello dependen nuestras escuelas, centros de salud, carreteras, hospitales, juzgados, y un largo etc.

Los interesados en darse de alta en el Padrón Municipal deberán dirigirse a las oficinas situadas en el Ayuntamiento de Manilva o en la Tenencia de Alcaldía de Sabinillas.

Según los últimos datos municipales, de los 14.800 habitantes de Manilva, algo más de 6.700 son extranjeros, de los que casi 3.000 son británicos. La mayoría figuran como residentes, puesto que el empadronamiento no implica perder derechos en el país de origen.

Padron registration campaign The Manilva Town Hall would like to remind residents that they are required to register on the Padron of the municipality in which they reside, and to report any change of address.

To this end the Councillor for Statistics, Marcos Ruiz, has initiated an information campaign not only to stress your responsibilities but also the significant benefits of registration.

These benefits include discounts for IBI, as well as elegibility for local classes, workshops and other municipal activities.

Registrationsallows residents to enroll their children in local schools, obtain certificates of residence, social security and social or economic aid. Being registered also entitles you to vote in local and European elections, obtain unemployment benefits, register as self-employed or get married.

It should also be considered that the size of the registered population governs the amount of economic resources allocated by the State, including schools, health centres, etc.

La I Feria Internacional de Eventos Innovadores (Inclubber) se celebrará en Manilva en septiembre de 2015. Así se anunció en la pasada edición de FITUR en la que el alcalde de la localidad, Diego Urieta, el concejal de Turismo, Emilio López, y el edil de Juventud, Marcos Ruiz, presentaron este evento que, según un comunicado, tiene gran proyección internacional.

Inclubber (I Feria Internacional de Discotecas, Clubs y Promotores) es un concepto de evento innovador que fusiona una feria y un festival. Por un lado se presenta como la primera gran oportunidad de reunir a los profesionales del sector y de que estos puedan exponer y mostrar

abiertamente al público el porqué de su éxito; por otro, ofrece al público general el atractivo de un festival de gran envergadura con la participación de marcas y artistas de primera fila internacional.

Los promotores de este proyecto han elegido Manilva para crear un punto de encuentro de profesionales del sector, donde se puedan intercambiar conocimientos e inquietudes, creando, además, un entorno atractivo para sus clientes y un espacio distendido donde tanto los profesionales, como el público en general, puedan disfrutar y asombrarse con las últimas tendencias en el sector del ocio nocturno.

Comercio entrega doce nuevas licencias de apertura Doce nuevas empresas han abierto recientemente sus puertas en Manilva después de obtener la licencia de apertura. El concejal de Comercio y Consumo del ayuntamiento, Diego Díaz, en un acto realizado entregó estas nuevas licencias en un acto celebrado en las dependencias de esta área municipal.

Estos tres permisos han permitido abrir tres negocios de hostelería, cuatro comercios menores, un locutorio telefónico, tres asesorías y una inmobiliaria.

Según el Ayuntamiento de Manilva, este incremento en el número de licencias de apertura son un ejemplo “de que la economía en el municipio se está movimiento y hay nuevos inversores que tienen la ilusión de ofrecer sus servicios a la

ciudadanía”.

Según comentó el edil en el acto de entrega "siempre es una satisfacción poder facilitar a nuestros empresarios sus nuevos proyectos y así fomentar el comercio y por tanto, el futuro del municipio".

Díaz anunció también que desde Comercio se seguirán realizando campañas en favor de los comerciantes locales para que sus establecimientos sean la principal referencia del consumidor local como han sido las pasadas en época navideña.

Commerce Department issues twelve new opening licenses

welve new businesses have opened in Manilva following the granting of their opening licenses

recently.

Three of them were granted to bars and restaurants; four to local shops; one to a locutorio, three to business administrators, and one to an estate agents.

This increase in local businesses is a good indication of the improving health of the local economy which is encouraging new investment and the range of services offered to local residents.

Inclubber, I International Discotheque, Club and Promoters Fair, is an innovative event that fuses the concept of a trade fair and a festival, bringing together industry professionals to display and promote their new ideas and products whilst at the same time offering the general public an entertaining festival of leading brands and international artists.

También asistieron los ediles Paqui López, Mario Jiménez, Marcos Ruiz y Antonio Parra.

Según informa el ayuntamiento en un comunicado, la ampliación del rocódromo permitirá al municipio acoger una prueba del Campeonato andaluz de escalada., el municipio podría formar parte del Campeonato

andaluz de escalada. En esta competición participará el club municipal que, dirigido por Rogelio Pascual, intentará repetir y mejorar éxitos de temporadas anteriores.

Por su parte, Manuel Chaves recordaba que el próximo sábado 28 de febrero estas instalaciones acogerán el I Open de escalada Villa de Manilva,

que ha sido organizado por la asociación GRUCAM, junto con la Delegación de Deportes.

Las inscripciones, que tienen un precio de 5 euros para todas las categorías, se podrán realizar ese mismo día, a partir de las 9.00h en el propio rocódromo. La competición dará comienzo a las 10.00h y se desarrollará durante toda la jornada.

Manilva tramitó, durante el año 2014, un total de 304 expedientes de reclamaciones de ciudadanos del municipio. Es una cifra similar a la del ejercicio anterior, circunstancia que no se repite en cuanto a las consultas, ya que se registraron un total de 1.800, respecto a las 1.600 de 2013.

Las telecomunicaciones, según informa el consistorio, siguen aglutinando la mayor parte de las quejas, seguidas de las que afectan a entidades financieras y banca por la supresión de las clausulas abusivas de las hipotecas.

También es destacable el número de denuncias recibidas por problemas con empresas de servicios de suministro básico: electricidad, agua y gas.

Estos datos se recogen en el informe de balance del año realizado por la propia Delegación de Consumo, documento en el que también se recogen, por sectores, las principales quejas.

Así, en el segmento de los establecimientos comerciales, destacan los problemas por contratos, incumplimiento de las condiciones y de la Ley de Garantías; en

blemas por las garantías de las reparaciones, las condiciones del contrato y la compra venta de vehículos de segunda mano. En relación a las agencias de viajes, las principales incidencias se dan por la aplicación de clausuras abusivas y una defectuosa prestación de servicios.

La mayoría de las reclamaciones, un 90% del total, se dan de ciudadanos empadronados en el municipio, mientras que el resto son de vecinos empadronados en otras localidades cercanas o turistas.

Asimismo, desde el Ayuntamiento recuerdan que para mantener informada a la población se seguirán celebrando talleres por parte de colectivos como la Unión de Consumidores, la Asociación de Consumo Santa María de la Victoria, la Asociación de Usuarios de Cajas de Ahorro y la Federación de Consumidores de Andalucía. Así, el más inmediato será el 28 de marzo a las 6 de la tarde y versará sobre hojas de reclamaciones, telefonía y uso seguro de internet, además de consumo responsable, ahorro energético y prevención de accidentes en el hogar.

Travel agencies were also the subject of issues relating to unfair terms and conditions and failure to deliver the correct service.

90% of the complaints were made by local residents registered in Manilva, with the remainder bought by residents of neighbouring municipalities and tourists.

In this competition the local squad, led by Rogelio Pascual, will attempt to repeat and improve on the success of previous seasons.

NOVEDADES EN MATERIA SUCESORIA. REGLAMENTO EUROPEO Nº650/2012 En los últimos meses un gran número de personas nos han contactado preocupados por la nueva normativa sobre sucesiones transfronterizas, propuesta por la Comisión Europea y que empezará a aplicarse sólo a aquellas sucesiones que tengan lugar a partir del 17 de agosto de 2015.

Esta nueva regulación se va a introducir para simplificar la situación de las herencias en las que intervenga más de un país de la Unión Europea.

LEY APLICABLE A LA SUCESIÓN EN ESPAÑA

En el actual sistema recogido en el Código Civil español (art. 9.8) se determina que la ley aplicable a la sucesión es la ley de la nacionalidad del causante en el momento de su fallecimiento.

Sin embargo, con esta nueva regulación, con carácter general será de aplicación la ley del estado en el que el causante tenga su residencia habitual en el momento del fallecimiento.

A esta norma con carácter general le seguirían dos excepciones: 1. Si, de forma excepcional,

resultase claramente de todas las circunstancias del caso que, en el momento del fallecimiento, el causante mantenía un vínculo manifiestamente más estrecho con un Estado distinto del Estado donde tuviese su última residencia, la ley aplicable a la sucesión será la de ese otro Estado.

2. La nueva regulación también establece la posibilidad de que la persona pueda elegir cuál será la ley aplicable del Estado cuya nacionalidad posea en el momento de su fallecimiento. En este último caso, la elección deberá hacerse expresamente en forma de disposición mortis causa, por ejemplo en un testamento.

El punto más destacable de esta nueva regulación es que, como regla general, las herencias de extranjeros residentes que fallezcan en España se regirán por la ley española, salvo que se establezca específicamente otra ley en un documento público, como un testamento. Por esto,

es importante tener en cuenta que una de las cosas que la ley española establece en materia sucesoria es que no hay libertad de elección de herederos; de acuerdo con la ley española, los hijos del fallecido tiene legalmente derecho a heredar al menos dos terceras partes de los bienes, y tienen ese derecho incluso por delante del cónyuge o cualquier otra persona que el fallecido pudiera decidir.

De ahí la importancia de dejar bien claro por escrito (en un testamento, por ejemplo), qué ley quieres que se aplique a tu herencia.

Otro punto importante de esta nueva regulación es que se establece que serán los tribunales del Estado miembro en el que el causante (el fallecido) tuviera su residencia habitual en el momento del fallecimiento, los que tengan competencia para resolver sobre la totalidad de la sucesión, salvo que las partes interesadas acuerden lo contrario. En este caso, las partes interesadas podrían acordar que los tribunales del Estado miembro de la nacionalidad del fallecido tengan competencia exclusiva para entender de cualquier causa en materia de sucesiones.

Si usted no tiene testamento o el que tiene no respeta la ley española y está redactado según la ley de su nacionalidad, debe asegurarse que en el testamento que firmó en su día se menciona expresamente que quiere que su sucesión se rija por su ley nacional y no por la de su última residencia. De lo contario, le recomendamos que otorguen testamento y así evitar problemas futuros.

Por lo tanto, les recomendamos que no dejen su sucesión al azar: asesórense y acudan a un experto para planificar su sucesión. NEW EUROPEAN INHERITANCE REGULATIONS APPLICABLE IN SPAIN In recent months numerous people have contacted us concerned about the new regulations on cross-border successions, proposed by the European Commission which will come in to force in Spain from August 17th 2015.

This new regulation is going to be introduced with the intention of simplifying the situation regarding inheritance law where more than one European country is involved

WHICH LAW IS TO BE APPLIED IN SPAIN?

At the moment in the Spanish Civil Code (art. 9.8) it specifies that the law applicable for inheritance is the law of the country of the nationality of the deceased.

However, in this new European regulation, it states that the Inheritance Law of the country in which the testator was habitually resident at the time of death should, in general, be applied.

There are two exceptions to this new law: 1. If, exceptionally, it can be proven that the deceased had kept a manifestly closer connection with a country other than the country where they had their last habitual residence, the inheritance law of that other country would be applicable.

2. The new regulation also allows a person to choose which inheritance law should be applied at the time of death. This can be done by expressly specifying their choice in writing beforehand, for example in their will The most salient point of this new regulation is, as a general rule the inheritance of a foreign resident deceasing in Spain would be governed by Spanish Law, unless otherwise specifically expressed beforehand in any public document such as a will. Therefore, it is important to realise that one of the things that the Spanish law regarding inheritance specifies, is that there is no freedom of choice regarding who would inherit. According to Spanish law the children of the deceased have the legal right to inherit at least 2/3 of the assets, and this is their right even before the spouse or any other proposed heir of the deceased is considered.

Hence the importance of stating clearly in writing, i.e. in a will, which regime you wish to govern your estate.

Another important point regarding the new regulation is that it states that the courts of the Member Country in which the deceased had their habitual residence at the time of death, has jurisdiction to rule on the entire estate, unless the heirs agree otherwise. If this were the case, the heirs may agree that a court of the Member Country of the deceased`s nationality have exclusive jurisdiction to substantiate any conditions in matters of succession.

If you have not made a will or have a will that does not comply with the Spanish Inheritance Law, and is written according to the inheritance law of the nationality of the testator, it is imperative that you ensure that it specifically mentions which inheritance law should be applied.

If a will does not specify this, and you do not want it to be governed by the Spanish Inheritance Law, then we would recommend that you consider making a new will to avoid future problems.

Ya está aquí el Segundo Scooter day de Sabinillas, 2015 Después del buen resultado y el buen sabor de boca que dejó la anterior edición era inevitable no volver a celebrarlo, aumentando el número de actividades, con un máximo de calidad y buscando una ampliación en el número de asistentes.

Un grupo de aficionados a los scooters de chapa, Vespa y Lambretta, de la localidad nos lanzamos con este proyecto, con la idea de divulgar y mostrar aquello que nos apasiona, lo que es una filosofía de vida. La cultura de los 60, música, estilo,

amistad y camaradería, buscando la participación del pueblo y procurando dar una nota de color en estos tiempos grises, así como de promocionarlo y darle a conocer a aquellos que, ¡aún no saben lo bien que se vive aquí!

Este año, repetimos el formato, el 18 de abril, un día entero con apenas tiempo para descansar.

Por la mañana, quedada y reunión del scooterista que haya querido venir rodando, repostaje de depósitos y paseo por la zona, por donde exhibir nuestras preciadas máquinas.

Posteriormente, comida de hermanamiento en las Brasas, toca reponer fuerzas para aguantar lo que nos espera....

Seguido, vuelta por el Puerto de la Duquesa y aterrizaremos en el Paseo Marítimo de Sabinillas, 3 horas de música en vínilo, en una fiesta compartida entre Las Palmeras y Frankie´s, 3 dj´s de lo mejor del panorama nacional, venidos de otras provincias nos deleitarán con himnos que harán imposible no mover los pies. La fiesta está asegurada.

Después, rato de descanso, tiempo para ponerse elegante y cenar algo, seguido nos desplazamos al Mayfair Music Club, 21:30, donde dos bandas nos harán botar y perdernos entre ritmos del mejor R&B y Soul, desde Sevilla, los BarKings, y, por otro lado, Los Kriptolites, banda jienense que hará que el que conoce el ska y el early reggae, no pueda olvidarlo.

Date announced for the Second Sabinillas Scooter Day Following the resounding success of last year’s event, once again the streets of Sabinillas will be filled with Lambrettas and Vespas of all vintages as the town hosts the 2015 II Sabinillas Scooter Day on April 18.

Organised by a group of local scooter enthusiasts and ageing Mods, the event began last year as an opportunity for them to share their enthusiasm, not just for their scooters, but also the music and fashion and philosophy of life that is wrapped up in the scooter culture. Bringing a touch of the carefree, swinging sixties in these austere times.

This year will follow the same pattern as last year with a meet up in the morning, with all scooteristas invited to come along, after which there will be a rideout around Manilva giving the riders a chance to show off their precious machines.

After lunch at Las Brasas, suitably fortified, the day continues with a ride down to Puerto de la Duquesa for a bit more showing off, followed by a trip to promenade in Sabinillas for a bit more preening!

This will be followed by three of Spain’s top DJs who will be playing their original vinyl on the Paseo between Frankies and Las Palmeras, playing all the hits of the era

from northern soul, R&B, ska, reggae, and much more.

At 9.30 pm the action shifts to the Mayfair Music Club, with two live bands taking to the stage, The Bar-Kings from Seville, will treat the audience to their soul sounds, followed by Los Kriptolites from Jaen, with a dose of ska and early reggae. All this followed by another 4 DJs playing all the hits of the era on original vinyl.

This is an unmissable event, and what’s more it is free. If you haven’t got a scooter that doesn’t matter, just come along and enjoy the music. Remember that day, Saturday 18 April.

La Mancomunidad espera reunir a más de 2.000 personas en la cuarta edición de Solmarina La presidenta de la Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental, Margarita del Cid, indicó recientemente que espera que la cuarta edición de Solmarina, la Semana Náutica de la Costa del Sol, reúna a más de 2.000 personas y 800 embarcaciones en torno a los puertos deportivos y clubes en los que se desarrollarán las diferentes actividades.

“Esta cuarta edición es un paso más en la consolidación de un evento que es ya una cita anual y obligada en la Costa del Sol”, valoró Del Cid en una rueda de prensa que ofreció en la Feria Internacional de Turismo (Fitur) de Madrid en la que presentó la programación de este evento junto al delegado de Promoción, José Sánchez.

“Solmarina se ha convertido en una marca identificable con la Costa Sol y con los deportes náuticos, y una muestra de ello es que en la última edición participaron más de 1.800 personas y 600 embarcaciones”, indicó la presidenta, quien anunció que la sede central de esta cuarta edición será el Club Náutico de Marbella.

En este sentido, explicó que después de haber pasado por los puertos deportivos de Estepona, Benalmádena y Fuengirola,

Solmarina recala en esta ocasión en la ciudad marbellí, “un sitio excelente, que cuenta con poder de convocatoria por sí mismo y que estoy convencida de que encajará a la perfección con las actividades programadas para la Semana Náutica”.

“Del día 9 al 16 de mayo, haremos que la Costa del Sol mire una vez más hacia el mar y todo su potencial”, subrayó Del Cid, que destacó la celebración de jornadas de vela y convivencia, de tal forma que en los puertos de Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Marbella y Estepona se organizarán regatas de manera simultánea.

De forma paralela, se organizarán jornadas de pesca en Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Marbella, Estepona y Manilva, actividades que contarán con una clasificación única.

“Reeditando el éxito del año pasado, habrá también una jornada lúdica en el parque fluvial y en la playa de El Castillo de Fuengirola, en la que se ofrecerá a todos los públicos exhibiciones y bautismos gratuitos de diferentes modalidades deportivas relacionadas con la náutica”, detalló Del Cid. Asimismo, la cuarta edición de Solmarina será también sede de un campeonato de exhibición y travesía en motos acuáticas,

que tendrá lugar en las aguas cercanas al Puerto Deportivo de Marbella, así como del Campeonato de Andalucía de Pesca en Kayak, una modalidad que cada día gana más adeptos y que en su anterior edición reunió a 111 participantes.

“Desde la Mancomunidad estamos convencidos del enorme potencial de la náutica, un sector que ya cuenta con unos

importantes cimientos en la comarca”, apuntó la presidenta de la Mancomunidad, quien recordó que al equipo de gobierno que dirige “este evento nos parece una de las mejores formas de situar a la comarca en el mapa, aprovechando una serie de infraestructuras con las que ya cuenta, y dando alas a un sector que tiene mucho que decir y mucho que aportar”.

excellent base, with the facilities to host the large numbers who will be taking part in this year’s activities”.

From May 9 to 16 the Costa del Sol will turn its attention to the sea with a celebration of all it has to offer with regattas taking place in the marinas of Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella and Estepona.

There will also be a number of events and competitions for the keen fishermen in Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Marbella, Estepona and Manilva.

"Revisiting the success of last year, there will be a fun day at the river park and the El Castillo beach in Fuengirola, at which there will be exhibitions and free introductions to different sports related to sailing" detailed Del Cid. The fourth edition of Solmarina will also host a jetski exhibition and tournament in the waters near Marbella marina and Andalucia Kayak Fishing Championship will attract 111 competitors to compete in this fast growing sport.

Debido a la fragilidad del yeso y al paso del tiempo, el contorno de este techo está estropeado.

Su casa, forjada por empeños, tesón en el trabajo, y ahora…

Haberse equivocado. No oír los consejos. Pero a pesar de que los vientos estrangulan y hacen difícil el ánimo, es indispensable continuar con esperanzas, las borrascas se enfrentan cada día con afán (el afán, ¡qué importante es el entusiasmo!). ¡Cuántos caminos en noches de puerto o entre viñas almacena la memoria de la juventud!

Manos ilusionadas en cruzar el tiempo, noviazgos de porcelana. ¡Qué fragilidad del silencio

cuando rueda en la mente el brazo de la luna!

–Hoy no puedo dormir. La casa se me viene encima. Esto no puede estar ocurriendo –le dijo a ella un día, y cuando se dio cuenta que hablaba en serio, se vio a sí mismo, su rostro triste resbalándose hacia el suelo.

–Tendríamos que darnos una nueva oportunidad...

Ella pensaba en voz alta, con serenidad y al mismo tiempo con sequedad, pronunció palabras que iban enlazándose unas a las otras, frases de ‘mira que si la vida…’, ‘mientras que yo pueda...’, ‘¡ay, noviembre de besos rotos!’. (El paladar de una manzana de invernadero, insípida, se atrevió a susurrarle la crueldad de un desamor amargo).

–¿Recuerdas cuando nos conocimos? –dijo él.

Ella lo miraba y pensaba que acaso el amor que se habían tenido no se ajustaba a necesidades concretas, y se atrevió a decir: –En nuestro caso, esas estaciones de cine, bailes y abrazos se desvanecieron. (La juventud es río que se seca, no toma en cuenta las cuestiones hospitalarias de los amantes que conviven).

–Sí, lo he pensado mejor.

Es lo que más nos conviene,

separarnos, antes de que sea tarde.

–Será que lo hemos pensado ambos –dijo ella que trataba se ser sincera consigo misma y también de hacer comprender a su pareja la decisión unánime.

–...Pero, ¿qué le vamos a hacer si nos seguimos queriendo?

–pronuncio él esa frase para que quizás muchos esquemas, ya sugeridos, se rompieran de nuevo.

Ella se le acercó, tomó su mano, su intención era besársela, pero antes, con la lentitud del que desea que las caricias aspiren las fragancias del cuerpo, la acercó a su pecho, su corazón palpitaba inseguro. Después, la llevó a su cuello, hasta que cuando llegó a sus mejillas él, cerró los ojos, y ella, lloró despacio por él, porque sabía que aún la amaba.

–¿Por qué nos hacemos esto?

–preguntó él.

Ella quería que la besara en ese momento pero él no lo hizo.

–Mi puerto, mi casa, ¿dónde están? Echo de menos tanto a mis hermanos, mi padre, mi hogar.

–Si es por eso. No te preocupes.

Iremos a verlos.

–No es solo por eso...

–Ah, sentimentalismos.

–No, egoísmos.

–No te comprendo. Somos libres y felices en esta ciudad

extraordinaria... ¡Felices cuando nos vamos a separar! –exclamó riéndose. ¿Optimistas? ¿Ávidos?

Se escuchó la aldaba de la puerta (no tenía timbre, porque a ninguno les convencía el sonido de los llamadores electrónicos). Era un amigo de él.

–Me gustaría que siguiéramos hablando. Puedes decirle que vuelva más tarde, o mañana –sugirió ella.

–Ah, es Jorge. Tengo que irme.

Voy a salir con él. Cuando vuelva trataremos de arreglar nuestra situación.

“Ya te lo dije –pensó en voz alta ella–. No es únicamente porque recuerde a mi familia. Nuestros dos años juntos han sido suficientes para comprender ciertas cosas”.

Pero él ya no la oía y se marchó repitiendo nuevamente que cuando volviera todo se arreglaría.

Cuando volvió, encontró una nota escrita por ella que decía: Miguel, me he marchado a casa de mis padres.

Nuestra unión forma parte de esas extrañas relaciones en que los demás saben captar más de nuestro propio destino y de nuestro amor que nosotros mismos; quiero decir que antes de habernos decidido a vivir juntos tendríamos que haber

oído a los demás, ellos, muchos de nuestros amigos y familiares, intentaron orientarnos, sobre todo, tu padre, que incluso se atrevió a decirnos en un ocasión que antes de dar el paso de vivir juntos lo pensáramos, ninguno de ellos quisieron forzarnos a nada ni robarnos libertad de actuar como lo hicimos. Ahora, son dos años junto a ti y no puedo soportarlo más. Tal vez, con el tiempo…; pero considero que somos demasiados incompatibles, que la pasión nos dirigió a una convivencia que ni tú ni yo logramos armonizar.

Espero verte en los próximos días, si quieres, y, por favor, cuando pagues el alquiler de este mes, le dices a la dueña del piso que las paredes están húmedas, muy estropeadas, debería arreglarlas, aunque el techo, no se ha caído todavía destrozando del todo nuestro amor. Quién sabe si al estar algún tiempo separados nuestra reflexión nos lleva a unirnos nuevamente; sin duda nos hemos precipitado en una relación formal, antes de conocernos más profundamente como amigos.

Duquesa Drama Society meets every week at Room Budding thespians now have an outlet for their dramatical juices thanks to the recently formed Duquesa Drama Society.

The group meet every Tuesday between 7 pm and 9 pm in Duquesa Port’s ‘Room’, which is located in Las Galerias, on the second level just below the Bistro Restaurant.

The group are currently rehearsing the play ‘Love, Loss, and What I Wore’ by Nora and Delia Ephron, which they plan to perform at the Manilva Wine Centre in June. There are also plans for a Christmas panto as well as other productions during the year.

The group are not just looking for actors, just as important is the backstage talent, such as costume makers, set builders, sound and lighting technicians, musicians, and so on.

Something ex-pats have in common is a tendency to travel fairly frequently between Spain and the UK. One benefit of this is that it opens up the in-flight magazine market. Using an airline on a regular basis means we have access to the magazines and can study the type of features they use. In-flight magazines are a very lucrative market and many pay above the average UK rate.

Interviews

Most magazines would be interested in an interview with a celebrity, however far down the alphabet. With so many minor celebrities having holiday homes in Spain, the chances are you might have the opportunity to interview one.

But celebrity interviews are not the only option. Many passengers are travelling on business, or taking a holiday with an idea in mind of moving to Spain and setting up a new venture or taking over an existing one. An interview with the equivalent of your local Chamber of Commerce, giving advice or explaining regulations, could be well received by an in-flight magazine.

Other Options

In addition to travel destination pieces, there are other ideas you could pitch. Why not look around the town where you live and rethink it in terms of articles?

Food and drink: Little-known local recipes and/or eateries, or a combination of the two would be of interest to tourist.

Adventure: List and make a feature of all the extreme sport options in this region.

Entertainment: A piece on local entertainment, fiestas, dances, casinos, spectacular firework displays – particularly with images – is likely to be a winner.

Nature and the environment: This is a hot topic at the moment, so a feature on how our region is dealing with the issue, whether from

This charming children’s book has been written by grandmother & granddaughter Sonia & Stella Golt. As Sonia invented night time stories to her granddaughter Stella to help her to fall asleep she awoke a budding story teller, so together they came up with “Children’s Dreams are made of this…” a selection of short stories and illustrations painted

by Stella herself aimed at 4 year olds onwards. As Sonia says “It is a story book that grandparents can read to their grandchildren but as they get older they too will be able to read them to their own and it may trigger the idea of their own story telling!”

Reader’s Letter Loretta from Estepona sent in this plea for help: No matter how hard I try, I just cannot get to grips with when I should use passed and when I should use past. Is there an easy way to remember?

ANSWER This is something that many writers have difficulty getting right. The way I deal with it to determine is whether the context requires a verb or another part of speech. If you decide the sentence needs a verb, then you can only use ‘passed’ (apart from this exception, to be past it, which is colloquial usage, meaning old or no longer of use).

They passed the time by sleeping.

The ball passed over their heads.

I passed the house on my way to the bank.

Remember this: if you use any form of the verb ‘to have’ then it will always be followed by ‘passed’ and NEVER by ‘past’.

I have passed my exams.

He has passed his driving test.

For all other parts of speech you should use past.

As an adjective: I’ve been waiting for news for the past week. (‘Week’

is a noun and ‘past’ is an adjective modifying the noun.)

As a noun: It happened in the past. (‘The past’ is a noun.)

As an adverb: He hurried past.

(The verb is ‘hurried’ and ‘past’ in this sentence is an adverb.)

As a preposition: He hurried past the house. (Because there is an object [the house] after ‘past’, it is a preposition and not an adverb, but the effect is the same and knowing the parts of speech doesn’t change the fact that you use ‘past’.)

El Ballet Africain Sunugal vuelve a los sonidos más ancestrales con el espectáculo “Somanda”

l Ayuntamiento de Estepona, a través de la delegación municipal de Cultura, ha anunciado que el “Ballet Africain Sunugal” presentará el próximo viernes, 6 de marzo, a las20:30horas, en el Centro Cultural Padre Manuel, su nuevo espectáculo, SOMANDA, con el que dará a conocer el modo de vida tradicional del África Occidental, y su forma de celebrar y relacionarse.

El Ballet Africain Sunugal está formado por músicos percusionistas y bailarines de Senegal, procedentes en su totalidad del Ballet Famboundy de Dakar, segunda compañía del Ballet Na-

cional de Senegal, y actualmente residen en Málaga. A España llegaron en 2002, como grupo de animación en el Parque de la Naturaleza Selwo Aventura de Estepona, donde permanecieron durante dos años. Y desde entonces han recorrido escenarios por todo el mundo.

Con el espectáculo Somanda, que significa “amanecer” en el idioma mandinga, el grupo vuelve a la tradición de los griots, los cuenta cuentos de la cultura mandinga. Para el Ballet se trata de un nuevo comienzo con los sonidos más ancestrales, ya que darán a conocer nuevos instrumentos, como los seorubas,

trío de tambores menos conocidos que el djembe, tan llenos de energía y de fuerza, pero muy importantes para contar historias con un sonido tradicional de la región de Casamance, al sur de Senegal.

La música africana es la forma de contar historias, muy vinculada con los acontecimientos de la vida y es eso lo que hace en su espectáculo: contar pequeñas historias a través de la polirritmia de la música y la danza.

“Somanda” showcases the

traditional celebrations of West Africa brought to life by this Senegalese group consisting of percussionists and dancers, part of the Ballet Famboundy of Dakar, now based in Malaga.

With this show Somanda, meaning dawn in the Mandinka language,

the group returns to its roots and the traditional storytellers of the Mandinka culture.

Grazalema, un paraíso natural a 90 minutos de la Costa del Sol

A

unque pueda resultar sorprendente, a poco más de 90 minutos en coche desde la Costa del Sol Occidental se encuentra el punto donde más llueve de España: el Parque Natural Sierra de Grazalema. Ya de la provincia de Cádiz en su mayor parte, este conjunto montañoso es una auténtica joya de la naturaleza por sus paisajes, su flora, su fauna y por el incombustible ‘depósito’ de agua que supone para los municipios que la rodean y las localidades que, a sus faldas, reposan junto al Océano Atlántico y al Mar de Alborán.

Aunque recientemente sus cumbres y pueblos, como sucede cada invierno en varias ocasiones, se han visto teñidos de blanco por las nevadas que han traído los distintos temporales de frío

que han visitado Andalucía este invierno, la temperatura suele ser benigna teniendo en cuenta la altura –Grazalema está a 900 metros sobre el nivel del mar y sus cumbres más altas en torno a los 1650 metros- y la holografía de la zona. Así, no es difícil ‘perderse’ en busca de tranquilidad por algunos de los numerosos pueblos que adornan sus laderas o de los bosques que visten de verde sus escarpadas laderas.

Lugar de peregrinaje para amantes de la escalada, la espeleología (hay decenas de profundas simas), el montañismo... la flora destaca por sus bosques mediterráneos, pero sobre todo por sus espectaculares pinsapares. Y es que el pinsapo, una especie propia de clima mucho más frío, se ha adaptado perfectamente a las condiciones de esta sierra gadi-

tana y malagueña otorgando una privilegiada estampa a quienes se aventuran a adentrarse en la Sierra de Grazalema.

De hecho, el valor biológico de esta zona es tan elevado que el acceso a algunas zonas del Parque Natural, como el propio pinsapar y la parte conocida como ‘La Reserva’, está limitado durante algunos periodos del año por lo que es aconsejable informarse antes de visitar la zona.

Pero además, la Sierra de Grazalema destaca por ser un enclave único para ver animales como la nutria en el curso alto del río Majaceite. Pero además, se puede disfrutar de otras especies como ciervos, corzos, conejos, perdices o la cabra montés. Entre las aves, especialmente llamativa es la presencia del buitre leonado o el búho real.

A

lthough it may seem surprising, just 90 minutes drive from the western Costa del Sol you can find Spain’s rainiest location, the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. Sitting mostly in the Province of Cadiz, but also spreading across into Malaga, this mountainous regions is a gem of natural landscapes, flora and fauna, and is also the source of water for many of the municipalities that lie along the Atlantic Ocean and Alboran Sea. Although many of the peaks and villages in the park have seen a dusting of snow on several

occasions during the recent cold snap, the temperatures are usually mild considering the altitude of the region - Grazalema ranges from 900 to 1,650 metres above sea level, making it easy to get lost in the tranquility of the white villages, and green pastures and forests that adorn its steep slopes.

Grazalema is also a place of pilgrimage for keen climbers, cavers and potholers, there are dozens of cave systems throughout the area, as well as nature lovers who can wander its Mediterranean forest, which is also home to the rare Spanish Fir which is found in

just a few locations in South West Spain.

The biological and botanical value of the area is so important that at certain times of the year parts of the Natural Park are closed to visitors so it is important to check before visiting the area.

Sierra de Grazalema also provides the opportunity to see a wide range of wildlife such as otters in the upper reaches of the Rio Majaceite, as well as deer, rabbits, partridge and ibex, with the bird watchers also well catered for with the griffon vultures, eagle owl, and the rare Egyptian vulture.

Top quality international professional golf is still being played on the Costa del Sol - Thanks to The Gecko Pro Tour There has been precious little toplevel golf played in Spain since the Volvo World Match Play changed venue and moved in 2013 from Finca Cortesin to Bulgaria (Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort). For a country like Spain that boasts such a glorious past in hosting memorable golf tournaments, it is sad that in 2015 only one European Tour event is planned (the Spanish Open in Barcelona) in addition to 2 Challenge Tour events (El Encin in Madrid in April & the La Gomera Spanish Challenge in July). Unfortunately, despite the tremendous courses dotted across the Costa Del Sol, not one single top level event will take place in our backyard!. It is almost as if the international world of professional golf had turned its back on this wonderful part of the world.

If you didn’t know any better, you would easily assume that Andalucía, the Spanish capital of golf was devoid of any international golf tournaments. Not so! Do a little research and you will come across The Gecko Pro Tour and will be astonished to see how many top professionals compete in their weekly tournaments that are played on some of the finest courses in Andalucia. As an example, in last week's event no fewer than 10 Challenge Tour players registered to compete at Alcaidesa GC. The Gecko Pro Tour is keeping Andalucía on the international professional golfing map. Now in its 4th season, this relatively small professional tour is run by a handful of experienced, hardworking and dedicated staff, supported by a group of passionate

volunteers, under the stewardship of its Managing Director, Rupert Hubbard. It was founded in 2011 and is already attracting seasoned European & Challenge Tour players as well as many of the most talented amateurs who represent the next generation of golfing stars. Already recognised as the most established golf tour in winter in Europe (and the only professional tour in Spain), The Gecko Pro Tour runs a full schedule of events, hosted on the region’s best courses from Malaga to Gibraltar. Thanks to the temperate climate of Andalucía, the events run from the start of October, culminating in the Tour Championship Final at the end of March. Due to The Gecko Pro Tour schedule and the temperate climate in southern Spain, it has been able to lure an ever-increasing number of players from across Europe who choose to migrate here to fine-tune their game ahead of their main summer season. A mere glance at The Gecko Pro Tour's Hall of Fame bares testament to its ability to attract many of Europe's finest young players to compete in strong, international fields and many of whom have then progressed and acquired full playing rights on the main European Tours.

Feedback regarding the quality of the professional events on The Gecko Pro Tour has spread across Europe, Australia and South Africa with players coming from even further afield who wish to test their skills in a tough tournament environment.

Among the local golfing hero's, The Gecko Pro Tour is proud that Javier Ballesteros, the son of the

International golfing sensation from Argentina, Tano Goya, who resides in Andalucía has also opted to play Gecko events when he is home during gaps in his hectic schedule in order to keep his game at a peak level.

Then there is Alejandro Canizares, an outstanding player on the European Tour this year (Tied 3rd in the 2015 Malaysian Open & 8th Place in the 2015 Qatar Masters) as well as Pablo Benavides-Martin, a two-time winner on the European Tour and the only player in history to win both as an amateur and as a professional on the European Tour who walks the fairways carrying his own bag and who, on one occasion, demonstrated his modesty by lending his spare woolly hat to a volunteer! on The Gecko Pro Tour who only days earlier was walking down the fairway on the final day of the South African Open with Ernie Els The Gecko Pro Tour is also naturally delighted in the success experienced by a large number of their regular non-Spanish players of prior years who have found fame in the top echelons of golf, including current European Tour players British professionals Andy Sullivan (winner of the 2015 South African Open), John Parry & Eddie Pepperell. Among those who ply their trade on the Challenge Tour are British professionals Chris Hanson, James Watts, James Robinson, Jack Senior, Lloyd Kennedy, the Scotsman Ross Kellett and Dutchman Tim Sluiter.

When the players arrive in the morning of a Gecko Pro Tour event, it is like a gathering of old friends.

The Spanish players who actively promote their local tour when playing overseas events, welcome the visitors with open arms and take great pride in introducing them to others before going to battle. The Spanish contingent defend their titles with passion & pride while the increasingly large number of Scandinavians also join forces as they compete. The top This camaraderie and healthy competition extends to the British players too and their success on The Gecko Pro Tour is illustrated by their great results not to mention a couple of incredible course records.

The quality of golf on show is truly of the highest order, so it is the more surprising that there are not more people who have heard about the Tour and come to support it!

I had the pleasure of interviewing a number of the top players and asked them for the reason for deciding to play on The Gecko Pro Tour and

invariably their answers were very similar. Their aim was not driven by the size of the prize fund on offer even though it does provide an ideal opportunity to practice and compete cost-effectively.

Their common reason for playing is quite simply the chance to play competitive golf in winter against strong multinational fields on some of the finest courses in sunny, southern Spain that they believe provides the best preparation for their main summer season and which is not available elsewhere in Europe. They complimented the Tour for producing such a great tournament environment similar to the major tours with as many as 18-20 staff & volunteers at each event, live-scoring and formal presentation . Many also claimed that The Gecko Pro Tour would attract a much larger number of European/Challenge Tour players if the Prize Funds were higher.

"Why don't you do that"? Easy to say...a little more difficult to put into reality given the financial dynamics of running a golf tour!

During the week, I spoke to the Managing Director, Rupert Hubbard, the architect and brains behind the development of The Gecko Pro Tour who has invested heavily in the Gecko Brand which also includes the Gecko Elite Golf Academy that runs in tandem with the Tour and whose aim is to help aspiring young amateurs. His team work out of a tiny office at the Marbella Golf Country Club where he can normally be found from early morning until late at night.

Catching him between meetings, we spoke about his vision for the future of The Gecko Pro Tour: “The last 4 years have been a labour of love, totally all-consuming from a personal standpoint and

full of big highs and lows as we have had to overcome constant obstacles, challenges and invariably frustrations that have on occasion threatened our very existence. Certainly not what I had expected when leaving corporate life in December 2006!

Fortunately I am blessed by an incredibly passionate, energetic and professional group of people - both staff & volunteers - who ensure the tournament preparation and operations run like clockwork.

It has taken a long time to create this powerful team which is a very different world from the time we initally embarked on this adventure.

Clearly, The Gecko Pro Tour has a superb and unique opportunity to exploit the wonderful climate of southern Spain and its wonderful golf courses to provide players from across Europe with an ideal base in which to play competitive golf against strong multinational fields from October to March each year when much of Europe is "closed for business". Although it was never our intention to be viewed only as a Spanish tour, our base is and will continue to be in Andalusia and we are proud to be here. From inception it has been my vision to build a top "quality" golf tour, with aspirations to ultimately become recognised as an official Satellite Tour, that is so attractive

it becomes a "must-play" Tour for European professionals and top amateurs players in winter.

The printer was whirring away as Rupert continued to respond to emails, as he spoke.

“We have invested heavily in people and infrastructure and will continue to do so if it adds value to our proposition. Yes, we have made great strides in 4 years but I am not satisfied with our speed of development. Sure we face major challenges not least the IVA rate of 21% levied on all our income and also the increasing costs of green fees demanded by the courses for our tournaments. This is unlike similar tours in northern Europe who mostly receive their courses for free! On the plus side, our name is out there and as the only full-schedule professional Tour in Spain (at anytime of the year!) and the most established professional tour in Europe in winter, our growth is building traction. Our events are followed by an ever-increasing number of media in Spain and in northern and eastern Europe, with more than 100 journalists covering our events. Securing coverage on Canal+Golf who screen each of our tournaments 6 times a week has certainly brought our name to a larger population that increased

our brand awareness and has led to more Spanish players joining the tour. There have also been some exciting recent developments regarding to social media. Activity on our various social media has almost gone viral this season with the arrival of so many household names from the European Tour & European Challenge Tour and our website continues to attract more than 50,000 visits per month. To give our social media new impetus, we will shortly launch an entirely new website while simultaneously we will unveil a new Gecko logo that will see our cartoon character disappear.

We are certainly moving in the right direction.

To overcome this handicap our experiment of playing 2 courses over 3 days demonstrated that we can now increase our field size to 120-140 players. Spreading our staff across 2 courses and ensuring our tournaments operations, including live-scoring, would not be compromised were challenges that we were fortunately able to master.

to grow significantly in the shortterm and to become very soon the "must-play" Tour for players from across Europe.

Spending only a few minutes in the office, you could almost see and feel the single-minded determination among the team.

You could also tell that The Gecko Pro Tour was only a short distance away from its goals.

“If you increased the Prize Funds you would be full of European Tour players, the events would be televised live and then the tour would be where you want it?”

“I have been personally subsidizing professional golf in Spain for the last four years. Until someone decides to help me, I will go at my own pace, old boy.”

Although I cannot say too much at this stage, we are currently in discussion with a major sports channel with a view to showing highlights of our events to a much larger population in northern Europe. Fingers crossed!

As I said earlier, I am proud of the team. Hopefully the players will continue to be impressed by a tour that is staffed by as many as 20 people at each venue and which projects the look & feel of a high-level tour. On a separate note, this season we decided to test a new tournament format that has involved hosting tournaments on 2 courses over 3 days and this proved to be a great success.

A brilliant start to 2015 for RJ Judo youngsters A team of three youngsters from R.K.Judo Club Estepona, travelled to the Southfields Open Championships Leicester U.K, a tournament of over 200 competitors, with a reputation of being one of the toughest at this level.

Ben Barkby first of the 2 boys, weighing in at only 27 kilos, had to fight at under 35’s, a weight he would not normally compete in but the lowest at this event. This did not faze him at all, showing good spirit, confidence and giving it his all, by far the smallest he still managed to produce spectacular judo, only to lose to the eventual silver and gold medallists, earning him a hard fought 3rd place Bronze after 6 fights.

At the same time on another mat was the club’s other boy Tom Whybrow, in a tough group of 12 players at under 45 kilos. His first two fights were crucial to guarantee him a place in the final four for the trophies. He did just that, winning both fights with superb judo. The final four were all current National and International champions, but proving he has turned a corner in his fighting he sealed a win over a well known face, but was just pipped at the post by his rival of previous championships in the final to take a well earned Silver.

El atleta del Club Atletismo Estepona Luis Merayo, Campeón de Andalucía de salto de altura y subcampeón en salto de longitud El pasado domingo (1/2/15) se celebraba en Antequera el Campeonato de Andalucía de Atletismo de Veteranos en Pista Cubierta con la asistencia de medio millar de competidores.

La única representación de Estepona se concentraba en las pruebas de Salto de Altura y Salto de Longitud.

Los metales obtenidos por Luís Merayo fueron Oro en Salto de altura con 1,66 m y Plata en

Salto de longitud con 5,34 m.

Estas marcas, suficientes para conseguir estas dos importantes preseas en el torneo autonómico, están por debajo de sus mejores registros, ya que Luís Merayo tiene acreditado 1,72 m. en altura y 5,65 m. en longitud. Así que es amplio y prometedor el margen de mejora para su futura participación en el Campeonato de España de San Sebastián (6-8/3/15).

Estepona Athletics Club’s Luis Merayo is Andalucian High Jump champion Last was the club’s only girl on this trip, Lisa Lindberg, fighting at under 50 kilos. Again a group full of champions and players with so much more experience than any of the Estepona kids. Lisa’s first fight was against a current International star, and last time they met it was over in seconds, but not this time.

A determined Lisa fought heart and soul, remembering tactical moves she has been taught to get her out of some tricky situations. Taking the girl to full time was a fantastic achievement only missing the win

by a small score in the end. Her next fight was much the same, but after a rough day on the mat Lisa finally made it through and was awarded 3rd Place Bronze.

All the kids did the club proud and fought at under 16 years, with the oldest only 12, a tremendous result for R.K.Judo Club’s ever growing judo stars.

Early in February the Andalucian Veteran Indoor Athletics Championships were held in Antequera with a turnout of five hundred competitors. Estepona fielded one athlete, competing in both High Jump and Long Jump.

Luis Merayo took the Gold in the high jump with a jump of 1.66 m and Silver in the Long Jump with a leap of 5.34 m. His results were enough to bag him these two important medals in the regional tournament, although they are below his personal best of 1.72 m in the high jump and 5.65 m in the

long jump. So there is definitely room for improvement in his future performance in the Spanish Championships to be held in San Sebastian from 6 to 9 March.

How do you get a flat stomach and a 6 pack?

Happy New Year everyone.

By now most of you will have broken that New Year’s promise to yourself along with millions of other people.

One of the most frequent requests I have from clients, other than make me thinner and fitter, is to make my stomach flatter or give me a six pack. Many of these people think by do 100’s of sit ups or crunches’ that this will suddenly just happen, what they don’t realise is the role that food plays in this process.

Everyone has a 6 pack, but if you store belly fat then you are unlikely to see it, so what you eat will determine the shape and image of your stomach and not what exercise you do.

Sit ups and crunches have been proven to have little positive effective on improving the abdominal strength, in fact, the latest evidence show that crunches put a lot of strain on the spine and the muscles around it, this can cause lots of injuries, from the kneck to the tail bone, with little benefit to the abs . What has much better results, and is far more functional is to train the whole of The CORE. The Core is made up of many large muscles, and the abdominals make up a section of these muscles, but are no means the strongest or the most powerful ones. The major muscles are, Upper middle and lower back, gluteus, hamstrings, hip flexors, oblique’s, and all the

small muscles that wrap around the pelvis and spine.

The core is very functional is used in every movement somehow; the idea of strengthening the core is to improve every day movements, improve the strength that each muscle has and how they work together, and to reduce the risk from injuries that can occur when there is a weakness. By training the core in a functional way, you will improve how your body looks and how it performs, on and off the sports field, with better symmetry and good overall muscular balance.

So training the core is an important part of exercise, it can be done in many ways, some slow controlled yoga or Pilates, weight training or resistance training with free weights or simply placing your body under different physical situations can cause a reaction within your core.

I personally look for exercises that have multi functions and I ask myself the trainer the following questions, Will it stimulate more than 1 muscle group?

Will it burn of fat?

Will it stimulate my Cardio Vascular system?

So this month’s exercise does all of the above and more, it is very functional but it really does challenge the abdominal section, It is called a Suitcase Pickup, or a 1 handed deadlift.

I would warm up and do 3 sets of squats (10 reps each time, working to good form, good depth, and chest lifted and no bending the spine) Then do 3 sets of strict push ups, (10 reps each time, working on good form, straight legs, and the chest touching the floor on every rep)

Suitcase Pickups You will need a bar bell, some weights and collars for the bar.

Use a light weight to start with, you will be amazed at how difficult it is to balance a loaded bar. The first move is a deadlift position but side on and not facing the bar, grab the bar in the exact middle with one hand and stand up, initially

the bar will wobble everywhere, so stand tall, squeeze your but cheeks, straighten your arms and pull in your stomach muscles tight, once the bar is under control walk 10 steps, put the bar down via a deadlift and turn around, switch hands and repeat.

New Yachting Legislation is Working in Spain It’s now well over a year since all charter yachts operating Spain, irrespective of size, could claim exemption from the infamous matriculation tax, and several months since non-EU-flagged superyachts were allowed to charter within Balearic waters - ample time to see if the new legislation works. Palma-based Network Marine Consultants is happy to say that it does.

Patricia Bullock, Director of Network Marine Consultants founded some 32 years ago, comments, “2014 was a year to remember, giant steps were taken and the brakes came off Spain’s yachting sector. We are now open for fair and commercially-viable business and the industry has started to flourish. Right now at Network Marine Consultants we are busier than ever with plenty of boats going through the process of obtaining their first licence for charter in the Balearic Islands, many of them superyacht sized.

Word is spreading, trust is being earned, and we should see a busy summer charter season.”

From a base of zero (yes, zero) in

2013, Network Marine Consultants administered no less than 33 superyacht charter licences in 2014. Taking renewals out of the equation, these brand new licences were for 25 motor yachts, four sailing yachts and four catamarans, up to a substantial 52 metres LOA. Patricia continues, “It’s these superyacht statistics that prove that the new legislation is working and give us hope that the Spanish superyacht charter fleet will continue to expand. Worldwide yachting association, MYBA, estimated back in 2011 that there were around 802 large yachts for rent in the Mediterranean of which only 17 were available in Spain.

Taking only our endeavours into account, we’ve already managed to increase this figure by 200%, bringing clients with high purchasing power to the Med. Spain should welcome with open arms these MLC-compliant, eco-friendly, taxlegal, efficiently-run enterprises that generate employment and economic prosperity to the tune of an estimated five million US dollars spent each year by a 50-

metre yacht.”

Official figures from Spanish marine trade association, ANEN, back this sentiment. In its 2014 review, it stated that Spain’s recreational yachting market grew almost ten per cent after six years of decline. Director of ANEN, Carlos Sanlorenzo, believes the market has stabilized post-crisis and attributes much of the growth to the removal of the 15-metre

ceiling for charter yachts claiming exemption from matriculation tax.

Supporting Network Marine Consultants statistics, ANEN found the greatest increase in yacht registrations happened in the higher LOAs, with the 16-metre-plus market (52-foot) growing by 48.2% in 2014. Taking into account just charter boat registrations of 16-metre-plus, this figure jumps higher to 157.14%

year-on-year. The Balearics still dominate Spain’s recreational yachting market taking 14.78% of boat registrations in 2014 nudging Barcelona into second place with 10.75%.

Llega la época de la orugas Thaumetopoea pityocampa, o sea, la procesionaria, que estas semanas están saliendo de sus nidos de nuevo, ya que el clima se calienta y aproximamos la primavera. Estas orugas podrían estar fuera ahora o es posible que no vayan a verlas hasta abril, dependiendo de dónde se encuentre. Lo principal a recordar es que estén atentos en su búsqueda y que tengan cuidado en zonas donde haya muchos pinos.

Mantenga sus mascotas alejadas y no trate de tocarlos o manejarlos. Los pelos blancos con los están cubiertos los nidos contienen una fuerte sustancia irritante y tóxica.

Esta forma de pasear en fila es una estrategia de protección que da la impresión de una serpiente para disuadir a los posibles depredadores, como las aves, por ejemplo.

Si alguna parte de la fila de las orugas se altera se envía un mensaje a todos los demás y liberan su sustancia irritante, desde los finos pelos que cubren los cuerpos de las orugas, hacia el intruso. Esta irritante no es muy diferente a la quemadura de ortigas, inicialmente, aunque algunas personas tienen una reacción alérgica alta y pueden necesitar tratamiento médico.

En el caso de los bebés y los perros este veneno puede ser fatal. Los nidos de esta oruga, al estar lleno de este irritante, las personas que trabajan o que pasan por debajo de los árboles con nidos pueden notar, como mínimo, una ligera irritación ocular y/o problemas respiratorios

debido al polvo flotando en el aire. ¡Algunas personas han perdido un ojo y algunas animales han fallecido debido al efecto de este toxico, en los casos de un contacto más intenso!

El mejor consejo para evitar problemas con ellos será mantenerse alejado de ellos y sus nidos, si usted tiene un árbol de pino con un nido debe buscar la ayuda de un profesional.

Time to remember the procession caterpillars, Thaumetopoea pityocampa, as they are coming out again, as the weather warms up and Spring approaches. These caterpillars are

starting to come down from their nests in pine trees now or you may not see them until April depending upon where you are. The main thing to remember is to be on the lookout and to be careful. Keep your pets away and do not try to handle them. The white hairs are covered with and contain a very strong irritating toxic substance.

This marching off in lines is a protective strategy giving the impression of a snake to deter would-be predators, birds for example.

If any part of the caterpillar train is disturbed a message is

sent to everybody on board and an irritant is released from the fine hairs covering the caterpillars’ bodies towards the intruder. This irritant is not initially dissimilar to the burn of stinging nettles but it is much more noxious, some people have a severe reaction and may need medical treatment.

In the case of young babies and dogs this irritant can be fatal. The nests themselves are full of this irritant, individuals working or passing underneath trees with nests may notice mild to severe eye irritations and/or respiratory problems, in the mildest of cases due to slight irritation from the powder drifting through the air. People have lost an eye and animals have died in cases of more severe exposure!

The best advice to avoid problems with them stay away from them and their nests, if you have a pine tree with a nest seek out the help of a professional.
