Bienvenidos al número de abril de The Resident, tu periódico local que ofrece información y noticias para la Costa del Sol desde Estepona hasta Gibraltar. Antes de seguir, me gustaría dar las gracias a todos los lectores y anunciantes que han apoyado a The Resident desde que empezamos hace 12 años, y a pesar del entorno difícil al que la mayoría de los periódicos se enfrentan, nuestra intención es continuar este servicio en el futuro próximo. La razón por la que digo esto es la triste noticia de que la Costa ha perdido otra publicación que llevaba mucho tiempo funcionando, The Costa del Sol News, que publicó su último número tras 22 años. Un día triste para el panorama de los medios en la Costa del Sol. En una nota más alegre, parece que el tiempo se está calmando un poco, aunque quizá nos queden algunas lluvias ligeras. Al menos las temperaturas están subiendo y casi es el momento de sacar nuestra crema solar, gafas de sol y sombrero.

Welcome to the April issue of The Resident, your local newspaper providing information and news for the Costa del Sol from Estepona to Gibraltar. Before I go on I’d like to thank all our readers and advertisers who have supported The Resident since it was launched 12 years ago, and despite the difficult environment that most newspapers find themselves in, we intend to continue this service for the foreseeable future.

The reason for this statement is the sad news that the Coast has lost yet another log running publication The Costa del Sol News that published its final issue after 22 years in print - a sad day for the media landscape of the Costa del Sol. Anyway onto happier matters, and it looks like the weather is finally beginning to settle back into what we’re used to with maybe a few lingering showery days, but the temperatures are climbing back to normal and it’s time to break out the sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat.

Many of you may realise by now that I am a huge music fan and have dabbled in radio over the past few year’s initially with an internet radio station, but over the past year I have become a joint owner of a local radio station here on the Costa del Sol, namely Radio Mix 106, on which I am heavily involved with the music policy and also present a weekly programme Indie Andaluz, showcasing local bands and artists from the South of Spain and Gibraltar. Ya está operativa la web de la I Marina Sotogrande Classic Week 2018 Ya está operativa la web de la I Marina Sotogrande Classic Week 2018, el evento náutico más importante del verano y que tendrá lugar en aguas del Puerto deportivo de Sotogrande entre los días 2 y 8 de julio.

La página está en lengua castellana e inglesa, constando de secciones concretas como ubicación, noticias, galería, fotos y el apartado para los medios de

comunicación.

En la cita estarán los únicos 4 veleros de la clase métrica 15M que continúan en navegación de competición en todo el mundo: el Hispania, el Tuiga, el Mariska y el Lady Anne, que disputarán regatas y costeras exclusivas para la clase. A los que se unirán otro grupo de 15 barcos clásicos, entre los 12 a 15 metros, con regatas costeras específicas.

Marina Sotogrande será escenario de la Regata durante tres años después del acuerdo firmado con la organización. Casares celebra su Semana Cultural del 23 al 29 de Casares celebrates its Cultural abril Week from April 23 to 29 Coincidiendo con el Día del Libro, el 23 de abril comienza la Semana Cultural de Casares, una jornada que estará dedicada a actividades de animación a la lectura tanto en el colegio como en la calle, y que da el pistoletazo de salida a 7 días de actividades extraordinarias.

La Concejalía de Cultura está ultimando los detalles de una amplia y variada programación que, como cada primavera, trata de acercar a los vecinos la cultura, el conocimiento y la diversión en todas sus facetas.

Junto a la celebración del Día del Libro, el mismo lunes 23 también habrá una charla coloquio con jóvenes palestinos becados por Universidad de Málaga.

Como viene siendo habitual, Radio Casares sale a la calle el martes para emitir sus programación desde la Plaza con tertulias dialógicas en la que participa el alumnado del CEIP Blas Infante y sus familias. Y esta misma tarde se dedica al teatro con la obra Toc Toc, a cargo del grupo de mujeres de Secadero de la Escuela Municipal.

Los juegos populares, una de las actividades más populares entre los pequeños, llegan el miércoles, a partir de las 5 de la tarde en el Paseo de la Carrera y continúan en la tarde del jueves.

Los talleres de manualidades y bolillos que se celebran durante todo el año, también son protagonistas esta semana con una exposición que se inaugura el miércoles.

La Sala de Asociaciones acoge

el jueves a las 18.00 horas un taller teórico sobre la Sierra de la Utrera, que será preámbulo de la bajada a las cuevas que tendrá lugar el sábado.

El viernes es uno de los días más interesantes con un espectáculo de cuentacuentos infantil en el Paseo de la Carrera a cargo de John ARdila. Y a las 21.00 horas la esperada presentación del CDDVD de fandango casareños Las Estrellitas del Cielo, que contará con la actuación de los protagonistas de esta producción: aristas flamencos locales y alumnado de la Escuela Municipal de Baile.

Este mismo sábado se suman a las actividades culturales el deporte, con la III Carrera de Montaña Villa de Casares y las actividades de deporte activos del programa Casares Aventura que se extienden durante la mañana del domingo con escalada libre, vía ferrata, tirolina, rutas de senderismo y a caballo .

La Semana Cultural finaliza el domingo 29 de abril, con la celebración del Día de la Danza, que incluye un encuentro del alumnado de Secadero, Costa y Casares de la Escuela Municipal de Baile.

Unas 400 personas participan en las votaciones de los presupuestos participativos optando por la formación dentro de las iniciativas de fomento el empleo Los vecinos del municipio de Casares se han decantado por iniciativas de formación durante la jornada de votaciones con la que finalizaba ayer el proceso de Presupuestos Participativos impulsado por el Ayuntamiento.

Las opciones 10 y 6, continuación de los cursos de formación en hostelería, pero sin condicionantes de edad, y el refuerzo del programa de formación con cursos de lavandería, hostelería, jardinería, etc., han sido las dos opciones más votadas, con 423 y 385 puntos respectivamente.

Un resultado que suma los votos realizados a través de la plataforma web, y de las mesas instaladas ayer en Casares, Costa y Secadero.

Casares fue el núcleo que más ha participado, con 29 votantes online y 194 presenciales. Habiendo sido las propuestas de infraestructuras más votada: el arreglo del camino de la Albarrá con la habilitación de cuneta, limpieza de matorrales y asfaltado. Dos opciones que han tenido y la instalación de un parque infantil desmontable en la Carre-

ra, que incluya vallado, columpio y tobogán, con 440 y 323 puntos respectivamente.

Los vecinos de Secadero se han decantado claramente, con 188 puntos, por la mejoras pista deportiva, que incluye la restauración del pavimento y del vallado perimetral. Seguido con 135 puntos por la construcción de un espacio en el recinto ferial que albergue skate park, circuito de parkour y pista de patinaje con obstáculos.

En la Costa es donde han estado más igualados los resultados, aunque la opción más votada ha sido la mejora de los desagües de la red de pluviales con 76 puntos, seguido muy de cerca por la creación de nuevas zonas de aparcamientos para la época estival y la adquisición del equipamiento para reforzar y culminar el proyecto de la Guardería de Casares Costa, con 72 y 71 puntos respectivamente.

Con la jornada de votaciones finaliza el proceso de Presupuestos Participativos iniciado por la Concejalía de Participación del Ayuntamiento de Casares el

pasado mes de diciembre. Un total de 397 personas participaron ayer en las votaciones de los presupuestos participativos, de forma presencial y online, puntuando las propuestas que ellos mismos han realizado en las asambleas ciudadanas y a través de la plataforma digital.

Unas propuestas que han sido priorizadas según el apoyo obtenido y validadas por los técnicos municipales antes de pasar a formar parte de las acciones definitivas que podían ser votadas.

Como ya manifestó la concejal Rocio Ruiz, el compromiso del Ayuntamiento de Casares es po-

ner en marcha las propuestas más votadas para lo que destina un total de 350.000 euros, de los que 100.000 son para propuestas de creación de empleo, 100.000 para infraestructuras en Casares, al igual que para la Costa, y otros 50.000 para infraestructuras en Secadero.

El Ayuntamiento organiza un fin de semana de deportes de aventura los días 28 y 29 de abril coincidiendo con la III Carrera de Montaña La Concejalía de Juventud y Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Casares prepara un fin de semana dedicado al deporte de aventura. Será los 28 y 29 de abril, coincidiendo con la III CXM Villa de Casares, una prueba deportiva en la que está previsto participen alrededor de 400 atletas.

La programación, expone el concejal Nicolas Morales, tratan de dar a conocer algunas de las actividades deportivas en contacto con la naturaleza que se pueden realizar en el municipio, para lo que se cuenta con monitores de empresas locales.

Incluye caída por la tirolina con unas impresionantes vistas al casco histórico, un recorrido por la nueva vía ferrata en la cornisa "La Planá", una sesión de aprendizaje e iniciación a la escalada libre en una de las muchas paredes que tenemos en Casares, una ruta a caballo por los parajes naturales del municipio, y una ruta de senderismo por el Canuto de la Utrera y los Baños de aguas sulfurosas de la Hedionda.

Desde la Concejalía de Deportes se está preparando una zona de acampada libre junto a la Piscina Municipal que se podrá a disposición de todos los participantes en la Carrera de Montaña Villa de Casares que se celebra el sábado 28 de abril desde

las 10 de la mañana. Y esa misma tarde de 5 a 8.30 permanecerá abierta la Tirolina de Casares con un precio especial de 5 euros, se proyectará un documental sobre deporte de aventura en el Centro Cultural Blas Infante, y ya por la noche se celebra la verbena de la Semana Cultural en la Plaza.

Las actividades de Casares Aventura se concentran principalmente en la mañana del domingo y contarán con precios especiales de 5 euros, excepto el senderismo que costaría 3 euros y la ruta a caballo que tendría un precio de 20 euros por persona.

Las plazas son limitadas para todas las actividades, y para

participar es necesario realizar inscripciones antes del 25 de abril. La reserva de las plazas se hará por ingreso bancario, o en el Gimnasio Municipal y Casa de la Juventud, donde habrá que especificar: Nombre y apellidos, la actividad contratada, la hora y si va con el desayuno típico.

Pudiéndose contratar más de una actividad siempre se puedan realizar en horarios distintos.

Marzo deja 19 parados menos en Casares El paro ha vuelto a bajar en Casares, marzo ha dejado 19 parados menos situando la cifra total de desempleados en 464 personas, de las que 289 son mujeres y 175 son hombres.

Con respecto al año pasado, el paro ha subido en 55 personas pero a pesar de este incremento las cifras se siguen situando entre los mejores datos de marzo de los últimos diez años.

En el vecino municipio de Manilva marzo también ha dejado una bajada del desempleo, en concreto, la cifra ha descendido en 76 personas, con lo que en el municipio existen actualmente 1.231 desempleados.

En la misma línea se sitúa Estepona, dónde marzo, y en especial la Semana Santa, ha dejado 240 parados menos, situándose la cifra total de desempleados en 5.579 personas.

A nivel provincial, el 'efecto

Semana Santa' se ha dejado notar en el mercado laboral en marzo, con un descenso de 3.663 desempleados que supone la tercera mayor bajada de paro del país, por detrás de Baleares y Alicante.

Además, los contratos eventuales ligados al sector turístico y hostelero han provocado que la afiliación a la Seguridad Social haya subido con fuerza: ha habido 8.674 trabajadores más cotizado, de media, que en el mes anterior.

Pese a este descenso, que es el primero registrado en lo que va año, Málaga sigue por encima de los 150.000 parados: concretamente se situó al final del mes de marzo en 156.149. Es la tercera provincia andaluza con más demandantes de empleo después de Sevilla y Cádiz.

Casares celebra su IV Feria Gastronómica los días 21 y 22 de abril Promocionar los productos agro-alimentarios y culinarios del municipio es el objetivo principal de la Feria Gastronómica Degusta Casares, que celebra su

cuarta edición los días 21 y 22 de abril con una amplio programa de actividades organizado por el Ayuntamiento de Casares en colaboración con el Centro

de Iniciativas Turísticas (CIT Casares).

Destaca la Ruta de la Tapa que tendrán como denominador común la cocina del chivo a través de los platos y tapas que ofrecerán los bares y restaurantes de la localidad.

El programa incluye también el concurso de callejones y fachadas con un recorrido por los rincones más pintorescos del pueblo para votar los mejor decorados con plantas y macetas.

La Ruta del Fandango, con la interpretación de la música y baile del fandango casareño en diferentes rincones del casco histórico y música en directo que cerrará las dos jornadas del mercado gastronómico y las barras de la Carrera.

El Ayuntamiento organiza un programa de actividades para conmemorar las 100 calles remodeladas en el proyecto ‘Estepona, Jardín de la Costa del Sol’ El Ayuntamiento de Estepona informa que este sábado celebrará un programa de actividades para festejar que el proyecto ‘Jardín de la Costa del Sol’ ha alcanzado el centenar de calles remodeladas en el casco antiguo.

El alcalde, José María García Urbano, ha señalado que esta intervención municipal ha supuesto “un hito” en la historia reciente de la ciudad porque se ha conseguido “en un tiempo récord” convertir el casco antiguo en uno de los más bonitos de Andalucía y en uno de los principales atractivos turísticos de la comarca.

Por este motivo, se ha organizado una verbena popular que tendrá lugar en la plaza Antonia Guerrero, a partir de las 13.00 horas de la tarde, y donde habrá una degustación gastronómica gratuita de platos locales y de tradición andaluza. Este encuentro tendrá también un carácter solidario porque se instalará una barra para las bebidas que estará gestionada por la asociación AVOI, que atiende a niños que se encuentran hospitalizados en el área de oncología infantil. De esta manera, se recaudarán fondos para organizar talleres, actividades y fiestas para los menores que se encuentran ingresados en el Hospital Materno-Infantil de Málaga. La verbena estará

amenizada con actuaciones musicales.

Además, para dar a conocer el centenar de calles que se han renovado a través del proyecto ‘Estepona, Jardín de la Costa del Sol’, se han organizado una caminata y un paseo cicloturístico por el casco antiguo. El regidor ha animado a los ciudadanos a que participen en estas dos iniciativas porque es “una excelente oportunidad para disfrutar de buena parte de los más de 15 kilómetros que se han recuperado en pleno centro para los paseantes”.

La caminata dará comienzo a las 12.00 horas de la mañana desde la céntrica plaza de Blas Infante.

Durante el recorrido por el centro, el edil adscrito al área de Patrimonio Histórico, José María Guerrero, informará a los participantes sobre los descubrimientos arqueológicos que se han ido produciendo en los últimos seis años gracias a las obras de remodelación que se han ejecutado.

Los interesados en participar en esta marcha pueden inscribirse en el Gabinete Geriátrico Municipal o el día de la marcha en la plaza Blas Infante.

En cuanto al paseo cicloturístico, el punto de partida serán los jardines de Carmen Thyssen en el Parque Botánico-

Orquidario, a las 11.30 horas de la mañana. Las inscripciones se pueden realizar en el mail eventosdeportes@estepona.es o el mismo sábado desde las 10.30 horas de la mañana en el punto de encuentro. Los inscritos en ambas actividades recibirán una mochila conmemorativa del evento.

Por otra parte, el Consistorio ha organizado un pasacalles por las calles remodeladas en el que participarán la Banda Municipal

iniciativa que ha contribuido a dinamizar la economía de la zona, ya que cada vez son más los establecimientos de restauración y de ocio que están abriendo sus puertas en el casco antiguo.

A esto hay que añadir que en el centro se están construyendo dos hoteles y se están tramitando otros seis, lo que pone de manifiesto el interés que despierta nuestra ciudad en los inversores que desarrollan proyectos turísticos.

La elección de ubicación de las cruces, previa solicitud, se realizará por orden de llegada, en los espacios acordados con la delegación de Fiestas, si bien no podrá haber más de una cruz en la misma plaza, ni a una distancia inferior a 200 metros en calles.

El plazo de inscripción permanecerá abierto hasta el 20 de abril, y se podrá realizar de lunes a viernes de 10:00 a 14:00 horas en la delegación municipal de Fiestas, sita en el centro Cultural Padre Manuel, en calle San Fernando, 2.

Los actos darán inicio a las 17:30 horas en la C/ Castillo, con la representación de la muerte de Manzanares, y continuará a las 18:00 horas en la Plaza del Reloj, con la recreación de la llegada del cadáver y columna de prisioneros con escolta de soldados.

A las 18:45 horas se rendirá homenaje al joven esteponero Pedro Manrique, muerto en Málaga en 1831, junto a Torrijos. Será en la calle Santa Ana, donde nació.

Acto seguido, sobre las 19:00 horas, dará inicio en la calle Real el desfile de época romántico liberal. La comitiva parará en la Plaza de las Flores, donde estuvo expuesto el cadáver de Manzanares durante seis días, para rendirle un breve recuerdo, antes del homenaje y ofrenda de corona de flores, que tendrá lugar a las 19:45 horas en el antiguo cementerio de Estepona, donde reposan sus restos.

El homenaje finalizará a las 20:00 horas, en el Río La Cala, junto al puente, con la recreación del fusilamiento de los liberales.

Salvador Manzanares

Salvador Manzanares Fernández (Bretún, Villar del Río (Soria) 18 de enero de 1788 - Estepona, 8 de marzo de 1831) fue un militar liberal español.

Ingresó en el ejército en 1805 y fue hecho prisionero en la batalla de Tudela durante la Guerra de la Independencia Española y enviado a prisión en Francia.

Logró escapar y regresó a España, ocupando de nuevo distintos puestos en el ejército. Finalizada la guerra, fue juzgado por el Tribunal de la Inquisición por masón, por lo que se vio obligado a exiliarse en Francia hasta que pudo regresar en 1820.

Con el retorno al absolutismo tras la intervención de los Cien Mil Hijos de San Luis en 1823, se organizan varias expediciones de liberales.

Manzanares parte de Gibraltar, donde se encontraba refugiado, y tras varios intentos fracasados contra La Línea de la Concepción y Algeciras, tomó Los Barrios el 21 de febrero de 1831 con la ayuda de Tomás Benítez y Carlos

Vincent de Agramunt. A finales del mismo mes desembarcó en Getares y puso cerco a Algeciras. Después puso rumbo a Estepona, donde fue capturado y ejecutado.

Pedro Manrique

Pedro Manrique fue un joven esteponero integrante de la expedición de Torrijos, que murió junto a él en las playas en Málaga, en los fusilamientos del 11 de diciembre de 1831, en defensa de la Constitución promulgada por las Cortes de Cádiz de 1812.

Hijo de Juan Manrique y Paula López, nació en la calle de Santa Ana, muy próxima a la popular Plaza de las Flores.

l Ayuntamiento de Estepona informa de que las obras para rehabilitar el edificio municipal que albergaba el antiguo Mercado de Abastos y convertirlo en un mercado ‘gourmet’ se encuentran ya en el 90 por ciento de su ejecución.

El concejal adscrito al área de Comercio, José Antonio Vílchez, ha señalado que la empresa adjudicataria prevé que este nuevo equipamiento, que será denominado ‘Mercado San Luis’ por su proximidad al castillo del siglo XVI del mismo nombre, abrirá sus puertas durante el próximo mes de mayo.

El edil ha indicado que la empresa ha concluido los trabajos de restauración de la estructura y la cubierta del inmueble, el ensolado y alicatado de la edificación y de los puestos, así como la instalación de la fontanería, electricidad y aire acondicionado. En estos momentos, las actuaciones se están centrando en el mobiliario que comenzará a instalarse en los próximos días, en la contratación de los suministros y remates

finales en el inmueble.

Asimismo, ha valorado que la adjudicataria está siguiendo las especificaciones técnicas elaboradas por los técnicos municipales para la rehabilitación del edificio, situado en la céntrica calle Villa. De esta manera, y debido a la proximidad de la torre del Reloj que es un Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) del municipio, las obras no han excedido el volumen que tiene el mercado en la actualidad. Además, conservará los elementos de la edificación actual que poseen interés tradicional o histórico.

El Consistorio percibirá un total de 1,7 millones de euros en concepto de canon por parte de la empresa concesionaria, que explotará este inmueble durante un periodo de 20 años.

Las instalaciones del futuro mercado ‘gourmet’, que permitirán la creación de 75 empleos, contarán con 28 puestos, aseos, un área de terrazas y un cuarto de instalaciones. III Seminario Sobre El Brexit Villa Matilde acogió el III Seminario del Brexit, puesto en marcha por la Delegación de Extranjeros Residentes del Ayuntamiento de Manilva.

Los ponentes, entre los que se encontraba por primera vez el Embajador Británico en España, Simon Manley, trataron las conclusiones y avances en las negociaciones sobre el futuro de las relaciones entre Reino Unido y Europa, una vez que hayan salido de la Unión Europea.

Asuntos de Comunidad ¿Cómo que tengo que pagar cuotas comunitarias? ¿Qué es eso? ¿Que mi propiedad está en una comunidad? Yo no acepté formar parte de una comunidad cuando compré mi apartamento así que no voy a pagar!

Para los que lleváis algún tiempo en España, el hecho de que vuestra propiedad pertenece a una Comunidad está generalmente aceptado, pero con el alce del sector inmobiliario, me han hecho estas preguntas, y algunas otras, frecuentemente durante el último año. Por eso vamos a empezar con lo más básico, si tienes una propiedad en España, probablemente formes parte de una Comunidad. La Comunidad es responsable de todo lo que haya desde la puerta de tu vivienda hasta el portón de la comunidad, por lo que el valor de tu inversión depende en gran medida del nivel de mantenimiento de tu vivienda. No puedes excluirte de la comunidad, no puedes no pagar el mantenimiento de ascensores porque usas la escalera ni puedes pedir que te rebajen la comunidad porque

no usas la piscina o pistas de paddle. Tu Comunidad es una unidad, piensa en él como una unidad, todo el mundo debe pagar lo que le corresponde, todo el mundo puede decidir qué servicios tiene la Comunidad y todo el mundo tiene el derecho de usar estas instalaciones – al menos que no paguen – pero esto también requiere una mayor explicación.

Una comunidad no tiene nada que ver con la comunidad vecina, puede haber comunidades dentro de comunidades, macro comunidades que forman varias comunidades o inter-comunidades que comparten instalaciones entre distintas comunidades.

Hay comunidades de apartamentos, villas, adosados, semi-adosados, garajes, plazas de aparcamientos y hasta comunidades de regantes que se componen de fincas que aparentemente no comparten nada, pero en efecto comparte las tuberías de agua.

Estés donde estés, probablemente formes parte de una comunidad que se tiene que hacer cargo!

Estas son las cuestiones más básicas, en esta sección contestaremos preguntas como – ¿quién paga qué? ¿Dónde va mi dinero? ¿Mi vecino no paga, porque debo pagar yo? Mi comunidad necesita arreglos, ¿qué podemos hacer? Que debe hacer el Presidente? ¿Cómo encuentro un buen Administrador de fincas Colegiado? Y muchas más, pero no necesariamente en este orden.

What do you mean I have to pay a community fee? What’s that? My property is in a Community? I didn’t sign up for that when I bought my apartment, so no, I will not pay!

For those of you who have been in Spain for some time, the fact that your property belongs to a Community is pretty standard, but with the property market picking up, I have been asked these questions, and more, increasingly over the last year. So I think we should start with the basics, if you own a property in Spain, that is within a urbanization, regardless of it being an apartment or a villa, you will most probably be part of a Community. The Community is responsible for everything from your front door to the main gates, so, the value of your investment depends highly on the standard of maintenance in your Community. A well kept Community will really help keep this value up, and I don’t only mean if the gardens are well kept, I mean everything that happens behind the scenes, but we will go there another time. The Community is formed by all the owners of

the properties within, and all these owners get to vote at a general meeting, regardless of if you live onsite or if it’s just a holiday home, you have the same rights, as long as you pay your community fees that is. The only income the Community receives (usually) is your fees, so if you don’t pay, the community goes downhill, and we don’t want that do we?

You can’t opt out of belonging to a Community, you can’t opt out of paying for the lift maintenance because you use the stairs, your fees won’t be reduced because you don’t use the paddle courts or the pool, your Community is a unit, think of it as a unit, everyone pays in their share, everyone decides what services the community has, and everyone has the right to use the installations – unless they don’t pay – but this also requires a further explanation.

One community has nothing to do with the one next door, there can be communities within communities, macro-communities that englobe different communities or inter-communities that are shared

installations between different communities. There are communities of apartments, villas, detached houses, semi-detached houses, garages and parking spaces and even communities formed by country houses that seemingly don’t share anything, but alas, they share the water supply so a community is formed. You name it, there is a Community who should look after it!

So they are the very basic basics, in this section we will be answering questions like – who pays for what? Where does my money go? My neighbour doesn’t pay, why should I? My urbanization is in desperate need of some TLC, what can be done? What does the President do? How do you find a good Chartered Community Administrator? And many more, but not necessarily in this order.

Dentro de la programación anual de actividades de la Peña Cultural Flamenca de Manilva, la siguiente cita para los socios de esta entidad tendrá lugar el sábado 28 de Abril en el auditorio de CIVIMA. Ese día a partir de las nueve y media de la noche, podremos disfrutar de la gran actuación de Alfredo Tejada, que estará acompañado por el guitarrista esteponero Paco Javier Jimeno.

La Peña Flamenca ha querido contar con estos dos artistas de excepción para completar su programación.

Alfredo Tejada, malagueño de nacimiento, se traslada a Granada donde empieza

sus estudios de solfeo y canto en el conservatorio granadino. A los 16 años comienza a dar sus primeros pasos en el mundo del flamenco, estudiando cante y compartiendo escenarios con grandes artistas como Chano Lobato, Carmen linares, o Remedios Amaya, entre otros.

Galardonado con varios premios y participante en múltiples concursos de cante flamenco, obtiene una gran reputación, actuando en grandes teatros como el de Nueva York, Moscú, Pekín, Roma o el Liceo de Barcelona, entre otros reconocidos escenarios

From 9.30 pm there will be a performance by flamenco singer Alfredo Tejada, who will be accompanied by Estepona guitarist Paco Javier Jimeno.

Alfredo Tejada, was born in Malaga, before moving to Granada where he began his solfeo and singing studies at the Granada

conservatory. At the age of 16 he began to take his first steps in the world of flamenco, studying cante and sharing stages with great artists such as Chano Lobato, Carmen linares, and Remedios Amaya, among others.

Awarded several prizes and a participant in multiple flamenco singing competitions, he gained a great reputation, performing in prestigious theatres in New York, Moscow, Beijing, Rome and the Liceo de Barcelona,​​ among other renowned venues.

Participarán "Los Sonaos", comparsa de San Roque, "Los Soñadores", comparsa de Algeciras y la chirigota manilveña "Los del Pabellón del Futuro"; el cartel se completa con las grandes actuaciones de las agrupaciones: "los Angeles de la Guarda" (comparsa de los Carapapas) y "los Quitapupas" (chirigota del Sheriff).

Plan de soterramiento de líneas de teléfono y fibra óptica

La delegación de Infraestructura y Obras ha comenzado una actuación en la calle Leopoldo Alas Clarín, en la zona del parque del Duque.

En concreto, se está procediendo al soterramiento de líneas de teléfono y de fibra óptica. Por una parte, el cableado adosado a las fachadas de los edificios afea el pueblo y a veces es peligroso cuando vuela por encima de las calles de un edificio a otro a no mucha altura. En cuanto a la fibra, sigue aumentado su cobertura con una tecnología que ofrece más ventajas y menos costes de mantenimiento. La fibra óptica es la última tecnología de banda ancha

que ofrece multitud de ventajas sobre las conexiones tradicionales de cobre.

El área que dirige Antonio Barragán ha destinado una serie de intervenciones en esta línea: "a lo largo y ancho del término municipal, dentro de las posibilidades que nos ofrecen tanto las infraestructuras como las empresas distribuidoras, llevaremos a cabo esta importante mejora", apuntó.

El edil también tiene muy en cuenta que el comercio de la localidad y los empresarios necesitan contar con el apoyo del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, por ello, se cuenta con las Pymes del municipio para que la economía local se fortalezca.

La UNED extenderá la educación universitaria a Manilva La Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia extenderá la educación universitaria a los municipios más pequeños de la provincia a través de la Red Guadalinfo.

En el caso de Manilva, estuvo representada en este encuentro por el concejal de Desarrollo Local, Marcos Ruiz, quien se mostró muy satisfecho con este histórico logro.

El Centro Guadalinfo ubicado en el edificio de Usos Múltiples de Sabinillas, ofrecerá acceso a los cursos, grados, actividades formativas y trámites del proceso de enseñanza universitario.

El 21 y 22 de abril se llevará a cabo la III Feria del Perro

Según ha informado Agustín Vargas, concejal de Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, ya está todo preparado para disfrutar de la tercera edición de la Feria del Perro.

La plaza Martín Carpena en Manilva ha sido el lugar elegido para poder participar en las actividades y actos programados para el citado fin de semana.

Además de las actuaciones de Ecos del Rocío y Barriomanía, también se contará con el II Concurso Canino y de belleza.

La veterinaria Cristina Quirós ofrecerá una charla contra el maltrato animal.

El evento contará también con varias atracciones infantiles y puestos ambulantes artesanales.

TIEMPO DE HACERSE RESIDENTE FISCAL EN ESPAÑA De acuerdo con la ley española, todas las personas que viven en España más de 183 días al año son residentes fiscales en España y deben pagar impuestos en España por sus ingresos mundiales.

Muchos extranjeros viven permanentemente en España (más de 183 días al año), no pagan ningún impuesto en España, o no presentan declaraciones anuales de la renta. Algunos no presentan la declaración de la renta por ignorancia, y otros porque están asustados de pagar altos impuestos. Todo el mundo debe saber que la ignorancia de la ley no es una excusa, la declaración de la renta debe presentarse anualmente, y los impuestos de ben ser pagados cuando sea aplicable a todos los residentes fiscales en España.

Hasta el día de hoy, la Agencia Tributaria no ha estado controlando la situación de aquellos extranjeros que viven de forma permanente en España, a pesar del hecho de que las autoridades son conscientes de este importante grupo de personas. Ahora la situación ha cambiado, debido a la crisis financiera el gobierno español intenta controlar a todos los extranjeros que viven en España para asegurarse que

pagan sus impuestos cuando tiene obligación de hacerlo; y así evitar que miles de personas reciban asistencia sanitaria gratis sin pagar impuestos y sin tener derecho legal a recibirla.

El gobiernos español se ha decidido a ser más estricto con los requisitos necesarios que permiten a las personas obtener la tarjeta sanitaria española. Al contrario de lo que ocurría en el pasado, ya no será suficiente con registrarse en el ayuntamiento (empadronarse) para obtener tratamiento médico.

Por tanto, AHORA es el momento de ser residente fiscal en España formalmente mediante la presentación de la declaración de la renta del año 2011, durante los meses de mayo y junio.

Hay muchas buenas razones para hacer ello. Esto permitirá a los extranjeros residentes: 1. Confirmar a la Agencia tributaria sin ninguna duda, que ellos son residentes fiscales en España, que viven permanentemente aquí y pagan sus impuestos cuando tiene la obligación de hacerlo.

2. Tener derecho legal a recibir tarjeta sanitaria que permite el acceso al sistema público de salud español.

3. Evitar el 3 % de retención aplicable a non-residentes cuando venden un inmueble y no pueden probar que son residentes fiscales en España.

4. Beneficiarse de las ventajas y deducciones que el impuesto de sucesiones y donaciones aplica a los residentes fiscales (por ejemplo, no impuesto de sucesiones entre esposos, sobre la vivienda habitual).

5. Ser considerado residente fiscal en España, y así evitar el impuesto de renta presenta aplicable a los no residentes que son propietarios de bienes inmuebles en España (modelo 210).

Es importante mencionar que la mayoría de los extranjeros que viven en España son pensionistas con bajas pensiones mensuales, por lo que deben ser conscientes de que probablemente no tendrán que pagar ningún impuesto de la renta en España porque el resultado de su declaración de la renta será probablemente cero.

Sin embargo, es recomendable presentar la declaración (incluso cuando el resultado es cero y no hay impuestos que pagar), para que se puedan aprovechar de los puntos anteriormente mencionados.

CONCLUSION: Si tú eres extranjero y vives permanente en España te recomendamos presentar tu declaración de la renta del año 2011 durante los meses de mayo y junio.

Haciendo esto, confirmarás a la Agencia tributaria que eres, sin lugar a dudas, residente fiscal en España, evitarás problemas potenciales y multas, y tendrás todos los derechos que las leyes españolas reconocen a todos los individuos que residen legalmente en España y pagan sus impuestos aquí.

TIME TO FORMALLY BECOME A TAX RESIDENT IN SPAIN According to the Spanish Law all individuals who live in Spain for more than 183 days a year should become tax residents and pay taxes for their worldwide income in Spain.

Many foreigners living in Spain permanently, (i.e. for more than 183 days a year), do not pay any taxes in Spain. Some do not submit annual tax returns out of ignorance of the law, and others because they are afraid of paying high taxes. Everyone should be aware that ignorance of the law is no excuse, A Tax return should be submitted annually, and taxes should be paid when applicable by all residents in Spain.

Up to date, the Spanish Inland Revenue has not been monitoring the situation of those foreigners living permanently in Spain, but due to the improved communications between tax authorities in different countries the Spanish Government will be able to tighten its control of foreigners living in Spain to ensure that they pay taxes in Spain when due. The Spanish Tax Year runs from January 1st to December 30th, and residents should submit a tax return for 2017 between May1st and June 30th 2018. Therefore, NOW is the time to formally become a tax resident in Spain by submitting your annual income tax return for the tax year 2017.

There are many good reasons for doing this. It will enable foreign residents to: 1. Confirm to the Spanish tax authorities without doubt, that they, are living in Spain, and paying taxes when applicable.

2. Have the legal right to receive a health card which allows access to the Spanish Public health system.

3. Avoid the 3 % withholding tax when a real estate property is sold. This tax is applicable to foreigners who sell a property and cannot prove that they are a tax resident in Spain.

4. Benefit from the inheritance tax advantages and allowances applicable to tax residents in Spain (i.e. no inheritance taxes between spouses on the main home).

5. Be considered a tax resident in Spain, thus avoiding the income tax applicable to non-resident foreigners who are owners of a real estate property in Spain (tax form 210).

It is important to mention that most foreigners living in Spain are pensioners with low monthly pensions, so they should be aware that they probably will not have to pay any income tax in Spain as the result of their tax return would most likely be zero. However, it is still recommendable to submit an annual tax return, (even if the result is zero and no tax has to be paid), to enable them to be able to take advantage of the above points.

CONCLUSION: If you are foreigner living permanently in Spain we would recommend that you submit an annual income tax return during the months of May and June 2018 for the tax year 2017. By doing this, you will confirm to the Spanish Tax Authorities that you are, without doubt, a resident in Spain, you will avoid any potential problems or fines, and will have all the legal rights that the Spanish Laws recognizes are due to all individuals residing legally in Spain and duly paying their taxes here.

Art Gaucin Open Studios 2018 The Art Gaucin Open Studios weekends have become a wellknown fixture of the art scene in Andalucia, with exhibitions of work by several Spanish and foreign artists.

Now well into its second decade,

the Art Gaucin Open Studios event is an opportunity to meet the artists, learn more about their work and techniques, and see and buy their paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs and ceramics.

Festival Arte Sano village of Gaucin, one of the famous white pueblos near Estepona and Ronda.

This year, the Art Gaucin Open Studios will take place over two long weekends – Friday May 25 to Sunday May 27, and Friday June 1 to Sunday June 3 – and will showcase new work by Art Gaucin’s member artists as well as by guest artists Javier Machimbarrena from Spain and Gerrit OppellandHampel from Germany.

Launched more than a decade ago, Art Gaucin has built up a strong following both locally in Andalucia and overseas. Its long-established members include Jim Rattenbury, whose paintings and sculptures are in several private collections abroad, and Michael Roschlau, former Glasgow School of Art lecturer and artist whose works include lithographs, paintings and intricate clockwork wall sculptures.

Art Gaucin’s roster of painters includes Joseba Sánchez Zabaleta, Ana Pellón, Nozomi Hatano, and Paddy Robinson. The group includes photographers Chris Klees and Vivienne Whiffen as well as ceramicists and sculptors Juan Antonio Sangil, Rosie Venables and Anna McGrane, Sebastian Fisher and Silvia Franco.

With its warren of quiet, pretty streets, Gaucin is a delightful place to explore on foot. It has ancient castle ruins, offers spectacular views across the coast and towards Africa, and provides plenty of places to linger over a coffee, tapas or something more substantial while enjoying those panoramas as the village has several popular and celebrated restaurants. Local artisans will also be showing a selection of jewellery, blankets and other handmade crafts. With the upgrading of the road from Gaucin to the coast, access is faster and smoother – now just 45 minutes from Estepona and 40 minutes from Ronda.

With a strong interest in history and heritage, Michael has written several books including ‘Across Deep Waters, Bridges of Ireland’; ‘Through the Cities, the Revolution in Light Rail’.

His recent books include ‘Homage to al-Andalus and Victorian Dublin Revealed’.

Un niño juega en la mañana de mi hombro, y hallo y determino y acepto y me someto.

Me domina con su música o mirada este beso de pájaro; el perro y el anciano observan hacia un lado y otro para cruzar la calle.

La verdad no tiene límites, ni la tarde, ni la tierra, ni el pueblo hoy en su espacio urbano, ayer, hierba recién cortada por los muchachos, hijos de campesinos.

Juventud que emana entre rosas de bordillos y sabe de pasiones y bailes de amigos...

Vejez del hombre imantada por recuerdos de juventud.

Si el violinista en el tejado es un reguero de agua como un ángel acompañando siempre al errante.

ADANA gets award from Estepona Mayor ADANA, the Estepona based dog rescue and rehoming charity was delighted to see that after twentyseven years of working with abandoned dogs in the Estepona area, their efforts had been recognised as being worthy of an award from the Mayor of Estepona, Jose Maria Garcia Urbano.

The award, a silver plaque mounted in a walnut frame, was presented to the ADANA President Mary Page during a ceremony to open the town’s latest Dog Park.

Mary said she felt honoured to receive such an award on behalf of the very many volunteers who had worked over the years to build ADANA into the organisation it is today, finding homes for around

three hundred dogs a year in Spain and other countries.

The plaque will be mounted on

a wall in the charity’s office at the shelter in the Parque de los Pedregales.

It is with great sadness that Age Conern has to announce the death of Michael Davis who was best known as 'Recycle Michael.' He died at the age of 82, doing what he liked best – keeping fit. He worked tirelessly for Age Concern and other organisations, keen to help who ever needed help. For many years he was the person who did so many of the collections of donations of clothes and bric-a-brac and delivered them to the shop. He maintained the disability equipment, carried out repairs to the shop when needed, and was liked by so many people. Not one to seek praise he kept his distance from the inner workings of the organisation and got on with doing what he did best – helping people.

He will be sorely missed, but what he achieved was amazing. Thanks Michael, you were one hell of a guy and will never be forgotten.

In memory of Jeffrey 'Jif' Turner who sadly passed away suddenly on 15 March.

Jiff was a big friend to the music scene on the Coast, for years booking acts for a number of venues before finally achieving his dream of opening his own venue at Ringo’s Bar and Cavern Club.

Hundreds of his friends attended a humanist funeral to celebrate his life which was held at the Manilva Cemetery on March 28, followed by a wake at Ringo’s Bar and Cavern Club.

Jiff will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him and counted on him as a friend.

In response to a tragic situation earlier in the year a number of local residents have come together to form the BuddyUp (Manilva) Community Support Group, a ‘befriending’ group to provide support, comfort and a point of contact for people facing a variety of challenges.

The BuddyUp group is coordinated by Marguerite Wilkins, and already has a number of members signed up.

Working closely with other local charities and organisations, including the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George, Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva, Citizens’ Advice, Cudeca, Social Services, etc., the group aims to provide support and advice for the elderly, disabled, those who have recently lost a partner, single parents, divorcees, the socially excluded, people that are new to the area, in fact anyone who might need someone to talk to or just pointing in the right direction.

BuddyUp volunteers work in pairs and have access to a wide range of resources to call upon depending on the needs of those they are assisting.

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain weekly surgery The Duquesa Charitable Society of St George is hosting a weekly surgery by Citizens Advice Bureau Spain every Wednesday morning from 10.30 am to 1 pm.

The surgery will be held at the St George Charity’s new shop in Calle Aurora de Albornoz, Punta Almina, Sabinillas, and is part of the Charity’s community support programme.

If you would like to see one of CAB Spain’s advisers then pop along to the shop on Wednesday morning, although it is advisable to book an appointment as it can sometimes be busy.

All consultations are free but CAB Spain is funded by donations, so if you feel that their advice has been valuable then please make a donation in the tin provided.

Love to Sing Choir

September 2017 saw the formation of a locally based choir created for those of us who love to sing, having been a choir member previously or not. The "Love to Sing" choir is multi national and at present has approximately 50 members. We meet every Wednesday evening between 7-9pm at Ringos bar, Pueblo Mexicano to rehearse. The choir is extremely lucky to have Shirley Helleur as our musical director, she is an extremely experienced musician and has a wealth of expertise in the business of turning "bath time buskers" into reasonable singers! Throughout the year the choir will perform a repertoire of songs at various events and at each performance any donations collected will be in aid of St. George's charity in order

New eco business launched on Costa del Sol offering eco-alternatives Eco Passion launched in April to offer eco-friendly alternatives to plastic for home and business use and bring about positive change. La picadura de la primavera La primavera está aquí con su clima más cálido. El aumento de la temperatura nos encuentra disfrutando de las colinas y las playas que nos rodean más. ¡Tener cuidado! ¡Porque todo lo que brilla no es oro, pero puede llegar a ser caro! Los vientos calientes despertarán los abundantes parásitos externos de estas latitudes; Pulgas, garrapatas, moscas, mosquitos y orugas procesionaria, para nombrar unos pocos. Estas plagas requieren nuestra atención para tratar de mantener a nuestros animales (y hasta cierto punto nosotros mismos) sanos y felices. Pueden causar problemas en su propio derecho.

Su simple presencia produce de picazón y irritaciones locales a reacciones alérgicas más severas debido a una picadura. También pueden producir anemia en casos de infestaciones masivas.

Estas plagas también pueden transmitir otras enfermedades parasitarias, algunas de las cuales son difíciles, si no imposibles de curar. Sabiendo eso de antemano, la medida preventiva debe ser iniciada para limitar, si no erradicar el problema antes de que se salga de la mano.

El control de insectos es una batalla en curso que necesita ser tratada concienzudamente. Para contener con eficacia pulgas, varios métodos simultáneos pueden ser requeridos, tratando el ambiente así como el animal.

Radio Mix 106 fm goes from strength to strength

The Costa del Sol’s newest radio station Radio Mix 106 fm is rapidly becoming the most listened to station on the Costa del Sol. Broadcasting from Gibraltar to Nerja on one single frequency 106 fm. The station has a strong music bias and has an evergrowing playlist of hand picked songs covering a wide range of genres which currently stands at some 5,000 tracks with dozens of new selections added each week, which means even if you listen 24 hours a day you can go at least

a fortnight before you will hear a song repeated!

In recent weeks, since the completion of Radio Mix 106 fm’s custom built studios, the station has launched a daily breakfast show which is broadcast live from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 10 am and is hosted by veteran broadcaster Sid Olivera. The show includes daily news, competitions, the cryptic clue with a chance to win a night for two at the Caleta Hotel, off the beaten track and off course great music.

Mix 106 has also introduced a number of specialist shows including ‘Indie Andaluz’, a musical exploration of the South of Spain and Gibraltar featuring bands and artists, covering all genres, who are from, or based in Andalucia and Gibraltar. You can listen in on Sunday evenings from 9 pm to 11 pm and the show is repeated on Wednesday evenings from 10 pm to midnight. Along with the great music there is information on local gigs and festivals, a must for fans of live music.

Another show recently launched is Liz Alexandria’s ‘Going Places’ which takes the listener on a musical world tour, introducing the listener to music from a wide range of countries and cultures. Going Places is broadcast every Sunday lunchtime from 12 noon until 2 pm and repeated on Thursday evenings from 10 pm until midnight.

The third of Mix 106’s specialist shows is Two’s Company, a nod to Desert Island Discs in which Sid Olivera chats with a different guest each week, discussing their favourite tracks and the story behind them. Previous guests have including: Danny Vaughn, Mr Maph, Lee Doyle, and Terry Shaughnessy. Two’s Company airs every Saturday from 1 pm to 2 pm and is repeated Tuesday nights from 10 pm to 11 pm.

ICE in Spring In March the ICE club celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in the usual raucous style with 40 shades of green hats and all the old favourite songs that brought tears of nostalgia or of laughter. The club also celebrated the 80th birthday of its ex-President Christina – many congratulations to her! Other activities included a visit to a garden centre and a photography field trip to the Cádiz coast in search of migratory birds and wildflowers. The artistic results of this will soon be available to view on the website (www.siberme.com) and the very best will adorn the club’s 2019 calendar.

Heart health!

There’s a medical term called "arterial compliance" that refers to how elastic your arteries are.

When you’re young, your arteries are "compliant." Arteries are elastic, springy, and resilient.

As you age arterial compliance decreases. Arteries firm up and harden.

As arterial compliance decreases, blood pressure increases. As arterial compliance decreases, left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) occurs – that’s when your left pumping chamber in your heart thickens.

Both contribute to heart disease.

I always recommend strength training/ resistance training as part of an anti aging program , but just as important is keeping our health healthy.

To do this,aerobic exercise is needed ( something that makes your heart beat a faster and creates sweating.

Aerobic exercise (cardio) keeps arteries elastic, springy, and resilient.

Resistance training ( strength/weights) alone may increase arterial stiffness, making arteries frim up and harden.

I highly recommend interval training , this is where you work hard +80% of your recommend heart rate max for a set period of time, then recover for a short amount and then repeat.

A Tabata works on 20 seconds work , then 10 seconds rest, a total of 8 rounds.

I train wiser not longer, I include high volume workouts with a medium weight, this certainly gives me a cardio workout as well as stimulating muscle development.

At the same time, these intervals work to increase your metabolic threshold.

I personally love interval training, but for it to work then you really have to make an effort, so I would not recommend this for anyone new to exercise.

Yesterday, I found out that one of my good friends has just had to have 3 weeks off work due to hurting her back at the gym.

More days are missed from work due to ‘ back ache/pain than any other reason.

So of course I was worried and wanted to know what the heck she was doing that caused this debilitating flare-up.

Turns out, she had done a load of sit-ups the day before.

She was doing class and the workout called for 150 sit-ups.

No checks to see if she had a back problem or checking on her technique.

And if you’re wondering why sit-ups are so awful for your back (and do nothing to make your belly flatter), here’s whyYou may not believe this-but the best way to tone up your stomach is NOT trying to specifically target

your abdominal muscles. I know it seems to make sense to try and “spot reduce” your abs—that is, until you discover what the role of your abs really is…

See, most people think your abs are made to crunch, twist, and bend.

But, it’s the complete opposite!

Yes, the role of your abs is to prevent your mid-section from crunching, twisting, and bending.

Your abs are a stabilizing force designed to resist movement and protect your spine.

So even though you might “feel the burn” when you do sit-ups, you’re actually putting strain on your back and forcing your spine to flex too much.

Yes - I want you to get lean and strong, with tight belly muscles, but needing 3 weeks off work yo recover from an exercise.

Sit-ups are also considered an isolated exercise, so you're barely

burning any fat or calories doing them - and you need to burn stomach fat if you ever want to see your abs!

But the good news is that there are many much more effective exercises you can do to get great abs.

These types of exercises are compound, “full-body” exercises that burn lots of calories while working your mid-section the right way - getting you results while protecting your back.

Gran éxito del Club Internacional de Esgrima en el II Torneo Internacional «Fencing Weekends» en el Castillo de Almodóvar del Río

La Real Federación Española de Esgrima ha organizado el II Torneo Internacio-nal de Esgrima «Fencing Weekends». En esta ocasión han podido participar los tiradores más pequeños del Club. Dicho campeonato, que contó con la partici-pación de más de 100 tiradores llegados desde diversos puntos de la geografía española e internacional, registró una gran acogida dentro de los últimos acon-tecimientos deportivos celebrados en nuestra comunidad.

La jornada matinal comenzó el sábado con varias pistas instala-

das para el desa-rrollo competitivo. Tres tipos de modalidades (sable, espada y florete) tuvieron cabida en las categorías de menores de 10 y de 12 años. Por la tarde tuvo lugar una visita guiada al Castillo de Almodóvar del Río para los deportistas, sus fa-milias y sus maestros y se entregaron los trofeos en el patio de armas del Casti-llo.

Se alzaron con los trofeos siendo ganadores de la competición Carla Herrera, Pablo Miras, Leandro Fraile y Javier Cazorla.

Todos estos logros se realizaron gracias a la encomiable labor de

los monitores del Club Miguel y Esmeralda y por supuesto a los hermanos y acompañantes de los tiradores Daniel y Leo que estuvieron animando en todo momento a los deportistas.

Con estos resultados los tiradores del club InternaZional lideran el ranking de esta prueba. Todos los tiradores se clasificaron para el campeonato de España que se celebrará en Madrid el próximo 27 de Mayo.

Success for the International Fencing Club in the II International Tournament "Fencing Weekends" in the Almodóvar del Río Castle The Royal Spanish Fencing Federation organized the II International Fencing Tournament «Fencing Weekends». On this occasion, the smallest members of the Club have been able to participate. This championship, which involved more than 100 Spanish and international fencers, received a great reception amongst the latest sporting events held in the fencing community.

The morning session began on Saturday with several strips installed for competitive

development. Three disciplines (saber, sword and foil) had a place in the categories for children under 10 and 12 years. In the afternoon there was a guided tour of the Almodóvar del Río Castle for the athletes, their families and their teachers and the trophies were handed out in the castle's courtyard.

Carla Herrera, Pablo Miras, Leandro Fraile and Javier Cazorla were winners of the competition.

All these achievements were made thanks to the commendable work

of the monitors of the Club Miguel and Esmeralda and of course the brothers and companions of the fencers Daniel and Leo who were always encouraging the athletes.

With these results, the InternaZional club members lead the ranking of this event. All the fencers qualified for the Spanish Championships to be held in Madrid on May 27.

Selección de Spike Parsons para el Equipo de Rugby andaluz sub 14 Spike Parsons ha estado jugando al rugby desde que Guy Leleu le puso a jugar en Rugby Tots en Estepona a la edad de 4 años.

Ahora, con 13 años, adora el rugby. Juega como medio scrum y capitanea el equipo sub 14 del Club de Rugby del Estrecho, en Guadiaro. Esta temporada ha llevado a su equipo al primer campeonato de la liga venciendo a equipos como el Marbella, Marianistas y Portuense, lo cual es un gran logro sabiendo que el club de rugby se formó hace solo ocho años.

Skipe ha sido elegido para el equipo andaluz sub 14 por su velocidad, agilidad, feroz placaje y gran comprensión del juego.

El Equipo regional andaluz sub 14 competirá por el campeonato español que se celebrará el 14 y el 15 de abril del 2018.

La competición se celebrará en

Puertollano, Ciudad Real.

Hay dos grupos: Grupo A - compuesto de Cataluña, Valencia, Madrid y Asturias Grupo B - compuesto de Andalucía, Castilla y León y Galicia Los ganadores de los grupos A y B se batirán en la final el 15 de abril Alumno del Instituto Monterroso en Estepona, Spike dice: “Es increíble haber sido seleccionado para el Equipo sub 14 de Andalucía para jugar en los Campeonatos españoles; el comienzo de mi sueño de jugar para el Equipo Nacional Español”.

Spike asiste regularmente a los Campamentos de Rugby Premiership en Reino Unido con London Wasps para seguir educándose en el arte del balón ovalado.

Spike Parsons picked for U14 Andalucia Rugby Team

Spike Parsons has been playing rugby since Guy Leleu started him off at Rugby Tots in Estepona at the age of 4 years old.

Now, thirteen years old he has been bitten by the rugby bug. He plays scrum half and captains the Under 14 team of Club Rugby del Estrecho in Guadiaro.

This season he has lead his team to their very first league championship beating the likes of Marbella, Marianistas and Portuense along the way, no mean feat since the rugby club was only formed 8 years ago.

Spike has been chosen for the Andalucian Under 14 Team because of his speed, agility, ferocious tackling and a very good understanding of the game.

The Under 14 Andalucian Regional Team will compete for the Spanish Championships which will be held

on April 14 and 15, 2018.

The competition will be held in Puertollano, Ciudad Real.

There are 2 groups: Group A - composed of Catalonia, Valencia, Madrid and Asturias Group B, composed of Andalusia, Castilla & León, Galicia The winners of A & B groups will meet in the final on 15th April A pupil at Monterroso School in Estepona Spike says: “It is absolutely amazing to have been selected for the Andalucian Sub 14 Team to play in the Spanish Championships, it is the start of my dream to play for the Spanish National Side” Spike regularly attends Premiership Rugby Camps in the UK with London Wasps to further educate himself in the art of the egg shaped ball.

A mediados de abril se llevará a cabo la III Ruta De La Primavera Ya hay fecha para la III Ruta de la Primavera. Será el sábado 14 de abril cuando vecinos y vecinas podrán participar en estos 10 kilómetros de ruta de dificultad media-baja que se desarrollará por el municipio.

El recorrido será por Manilva, el Chorro, la Vizcarronda, Pedraza, Jacinto Porro, la Loma, la Peñuela, para volver de nuevo a Manilva pueblo.

La salida está programada para las 10.00h desde el centro médico de Manilva.

Se contará con un vehículo

para recoger a las personas con dificultades para completar la ruta.

Después de la actividad deportiva se degustará una paella para todos los participantes.

The III Spring Hike will be held in mid-April The III Spring Hike will take place on Saturday April 14 in which locals can participate in this 10 kilometre hike which is classified as of medium-low.

The walk will be through Manilva, El Chorro, Vizcarronda, Pedraza, Jacinto Porro, La Loma, La Peñuela, to return back to Manilva town.

The departure is scheduled for 10 am from the medical centre in Manilva.

There will be a vehicle to pick up people who may struggle to complete the route.

After the walk there will be a paella for all those who took part.

Casares se suma a un nuevo reto de AVOI Sonrisas hacia la Gran Senda Casares se vuelve a sumar a la iniciativa de la Asociación de Voluntarios de Oncología Infantil (AVOI), la caminata solidaria 'Sonrisas hacia la Gran Senda' que tendrá lugar el 6 de mayo en cerca de 60 municipios.

El recorrido de Casares, de 18 kilómetros, informa el concejal de Deportes, Nicolás Morales, se iniciará en Benarrabá para finalizar en el polideportivo de la Huertezuela donde tendrá lugar una paella para todos los participantes. Y se plantará un árbol fuerte en homenaje a Pablo Ráez y para continuar la promoción de donación de médula ósea.

Las plazas para participar en este ruta están limitadas a 50 perso-

nas. Los interesados deben inscribirse antes del 30 de Abril en la Casa Natal de Blas Infante, la Tenencia de Alcaldía de Costa y de Secadero. El coste es de 10€ por participante, una donación que será a beneficio de esta nueva campaña de AVOI. La marcha tiene un doble objetivo. Por un lado, recaudar fondos para poder llevar al Camino de Santiago a menores que están recibiendo tratamiento de oncología, y por otro, difundir la importancia de la donación de médula ósea que inició Pablo Ráéz y que se plasmará plantando un árbol «fuerte» al llegar a la meta de cada municipio.

La labor principal de esta asocia-

ción se centra en procurar que la estancia de los niños enfermos de cáncer en el hospital sea lo más agradable y feliz posible.

Para ello cuentan con una amplia red de voluntarios que les acompañan durante su ingreso y que organizan actividades con el fin de que las horas que pasen allí durante su tratamiento se les hagan más llevaderas Dentro de su campaña de concienciación sobre la importancia de donar médula para salvar vidas se incluye la ruta de senderismo Sonrisas hacia la Gran Senda y la verbena solidaria organizada el pasado año y en la que también participó el municipio de Casares.
