A medida que el año llega a su fin y la Navidad está a la vuelta de la esquina, muchas personas aprovechan este momento para reflexionar sobre los últimos 12 meses, y otros consideran que afortunadamente el año ha terminado y hay que dar la bienvenida al nuevo año. Personalmente tiendo a estar entre los dos; aunque es bueno reflexionar sobre lo que nos ha deparado el año que termina, me gusta enfocar el nuevo año como un nuevo principio. Aquí en The Resident seguimos trabajando cada mes para llevar a los residentes y visitantes de Manilva, Casares y Estepona noticias e información sobre lo que sucede en estos municipios. A lo largo de los años, The Resident ha permanecido fiel a su misión, un hecho que nos ha convertido en una de las publicaciones bilingües más establecidas y respetadas de la Costa del Sol. As the year comes to an end and Christmas approaches many people take this time to reflect on the past twelve months, whilst others consider it a good job it’s over and let’s get at the next year! Personally I tend to fall in between the two, whilst it is good to look at what the previous year has brought, I’m kind of keen to get at the bright and shiny new one just around the corner. Here at The Resident we continue working each month to bring the residents and visitors in Manilva, Casares and Estepona, news and information of what’s going on your municipality. Over the years The Resident has stayed true to its mission, a fact that means we have become one of the most established and respected bilingual publications on the Costa del Sol. Navidad en España Tras marcharse diciembre, nuestra atención se dirige a la Navidad y a las divertidas festividades que se celebran. Aunque la Navidad se celebra ampliamente en España, una de las fechas más esperadas es el Día de Reyes, que se celebra el 6 de enero. Esto significa que el periodo vacacional dura dos semanas. Comenzando en Nochebuena, la mayoría de los españoles pasarán la primera parte de la noche con sus familias disfrutando de un gran banquete, a menudo compuesto por pescado y marisco, aunque también con todo lo que puedas imaginar, y tras la cena, aquellos que aún puedan moverse, salen de fiesta o a visitar a sus amigos. El Día de Navidad es un día tranquilo, y algunos niños reciben regalos de Papá Noel, mientras que otros esperan a los Reyes Magos para que traigan sus regalos. Christmas in Spain As December marches on our attention turns to Christmas and the fun and festivities that go with it. Whilst Christmas is celebrated widely in Spain the main focus is on the festival of Los Reyes Magos, or Three Kings which is held on January 6th, this means that the holiday period is a full fortnight. Beginning on Christmas Eve or Noche Buena most Spaniards will spend the first part of the evening with family enjoying a huge feast, often of fish and shellfish, but also just about everything else you can think of, after which those who are still mobile will go out after midnight to party or visit friends. Christmas Day is a fairly quiet day with some children receiving gifts from Santa, whilst others have to wait for the Three Kings to bring their goodies.

Following this, yes you guessed it, it’s party time until the early hours. The grand finale for the festive period is Three Kings. A couple of days before the children will have delivered their letters detailing the gifts they would like to receive, and on evening of the 5th January there are huge processions (read mobile riots) through the streets of every village, town and city, during which literally tons of sweets are hurled into the eager crowds. On the 6th the children traditionally open their presents.

Con el cambio del trazado de la tubería de abastecimiento de agua comienzan las obras de la travesía de la carretera MA-8.300 en Casares Costa
Los trabajos de mejora de la seguridad en la travesía de la MA-8.300 en Casares Costa han comenzado con el cambio de trazado de la tubería de acometida de agua potable y la poda de arboleda, unas labores que están produciendo cortes intermitentes del tráfico, aunque son preparativos de la reestructuración de la zona que comenzará de forma más intensa después de las fiestas navideñas. El proyecto que ejecuta Diputación a petición del Ayuntamiento de Casares, recoge las inquietudes de los vecinos en cuanto a una mayor seguridad
vial para peatones y vehículos desde el punto kilométrico 0.090 al p.k. 0+230. Una zona cada vez más concurrida donde se ubican paradas de autobús escolar y de taxi, y diversas intersecciones para acceso a urbanizaciones, gasolinera, zona comercial y parque. It is a project much in demand by the government team of the Town Council of Casares whose technicians have worked in coordination with the Provincial Council for the drafting of the project, which takes into account the needs of residents, and organising pedestrian and vehicle transit in the area where the population has increased considerably in recent years.

El presupuesto del Ayuntamiento de Casares sigue aumentando. Para este próximo año el municipio contará con 13.180.000 €, es decir 331.000 € más que en 2017
El Ayuntamiento de Casares llevará a pleno el presupuesto municipal para 2018. Un monto que asciende a 13.180.257€, y que supone 331.534,47 € más que en 2017. El Concejal de Hacienda, Guzmán Ahumada ha valorado el presupuesto como equilibrado, explicando que el equipo de gobierno apuesta por el empleo y el mantenimiento de los servicios públicos a través de la plantilla municipal y las incorporaciones en la Bolsa de Trabajo. Como grandes novedades cabe indicar la ampliación de la prestación de servicios en las Entidades Urbanísticas, donde para este 2018 el Ayuntamiento asume el alumbrado público de las mismas, e
incorpora créditos para progresivamente poner en marcha la limpieza de viales públicos y mejorar la vigilancia de las urbanizaciones. Otra novedad sería la puesta en marcha de la Oficina de Intermediación en materia de Vivienda, para poder continuar desarrollando el Plan Municipal de Vivienda, Rehabilitación y Regeneración del Casco Histórico de Casares. El presupuesto amplía de forma global las partidas de mantenimiento en los tres núcleos urbanos y el diseminado, con un aumento considerable en materia de mantenimiento de jardines. Casares Town Council announces an increased municipal budget for 2018 The Casares local budget for 2018 has been finalised and will amount to € 13,180,257, and increase of € 331,534.47 over the 2017 budget. Councillor for finance, Guzmán Ahumada, has assessed the budget as well balanced, explaining that the government is committed to the employment and maintenance of public services through municipal employees augmented with local job creation schemes. One of the major developments is the expansion of services into a number of urbanisations including the assumption of responsibility for street lighting, cleaning of public roads, and security. Another new development is the establishment of the Office of Housing Intermediation, as well as the continued development of the Municipal Housing, Rehabilitation and Regeneration Plan in Casares Town’s historic centre. The Budget, which covers the municipality’s three urban centres: Casares Town, Casares Costa, and Secadero, sees a considerable increase for maintenance of parks and gardens, etc. In 2018 basic education and health services are maintained, with an increase in emergency cover to 24 hours. Social matters
are also improved with an extension of the Social Kitchen to cover the month of August and the launching of an elderly care service for the elderly in Secadero. In the area of Tourism one of the major projects is the improvement of facilities at the Baños de la Hedionda Roman baths, with access control and information point to help preserve and develop this cultural heritage site. The government continues to invest in education with support at every level and an expansion in the number of Scholarships for Languages awarded. € 2,369,000 has been allocated for investment in public works such as the remodeling of the Local Police building, the rehabilitation of the Calle Camachas building, Sotocolorado housing repair, Municipal Nursery de Casares, Casares Costa Multipurpose Building, Secadero Multipurpose Building (Phase I), CamarateEstepona Road, Calle Fuente and Cruce Calle Guadiaro-Málaga. This also includes items elected in the Participatory Budgeting. Regarding the income, there will be no new tax burdens on residents, in fact the IBI will fall by 4% on the receipt of 2018.

Otra de las partidas que aumenta es la relativa al Medio Ambiente, para renovar la flota de los camiones de RSU, entre otras acciones. Se seguirá apostando por una educación

Como novedad destaca la ampliación de las Becas de Idiomas, ampliando el número de becados Las inversiones contemplan 2.369.000 €, siendo el capítulo que más aumenta (casi se triplica) y que conlleva obras que estarán terminadas en 2018 como la remodelación del edifico de la Policía Local, el saneamiento edificio calle Camachas, reparación viviendas Sotocolorado, Guardería Municipal de Casares, Edificio Multiusos Casares Costa, Edificio Multiusos Secadero (Fase I), Camino Camarate-Estepona, Calle Fuente y Cruce Calle Guadiaro-Málaga. En este sentido hay que destacar otras partidas que se contemplan dentro de los Presupuestos Participativos. Respecto a los ingresos, no se llevará a cabo la creación de ningún tipo de impuesto nuevo de cara a la ciudadanía, de hecho descenderá el IBI en un 4% en el recibo de 2018.

Casares celebrates its Living Nativity on December 22 Casares Town Hall have announced that this year’s Living Nativity will take place on Friday 22 December. This annual event sees local residents recreating scenes from the story of the birth of Christ throughout the town, and this year the Council have contracted a specialist company to broadcast a soundtrack for the scenes along
the route of the enactment. The Council has already held a meeting with the Municipal Dance and Theatre schools and other organisations that usually collaborate with this initiative, but is also inviting any associations or individual who wish to participate to contact them at the Casa Natal de Blas Infante.

Marina de Casares Friends and Neighbours El concejal de Deportes Nicolás Morales ha anunciado que la tirolina se abrirá en los próximos días, una vez llegue el informe favorable de la última inspección que se ha llevado a cabo esta semana. La empresa homologada ASES XXI ha dado el visto bueno a esta última revisión, que ha consistido en la comprobación de las vías y otras medidas concretas. Morales explica que la apertura se ha visto algo retrasada por el número de revisiones necesarias finales que tiene que pasar una atracción de estas características, sobre todo en la última fase. Ahora que ya está todo terminado, sólo se está a la espera de la llegada del informe, que según ha especificado la empresa tardará unos 5 días.
Las entradas para la tirolina se podrán comprar en la Casa Natal de Blas Infante una vez que comience a funcionar, el precio será de seis euros para empadronados y doce para no empadronados, aunque habrá diferentes descuentos para jóvenes y para familias numerosas. La atracción estará abierta dos horas y media por la mañana y otras dos horas y media por la tarde, aunque el horario irá variando en función de la demanda. Según comenta el edil, el principal objetivo de esta tirolina y de la vía ferrata que se está construyendo actualmente es aprovechar la singular orografía de Casares con estas atracciones para fomentar el turismo activo, un sector en auge en Andalucía

Our monthly “Meal of the Day” and “Cream Teas” are still in great form
with visits to new places as well as, at times, returning to the very best restaurants. As is our tradition, we will end the year with our customary Christmas Lunch and as always, mindful of those less fortunate than ourselves, we will make a donation to charity. The Casares zip line has passed its final safety inspection The Councillor for Sports, Nicolás Morales, has announced that the new zip line will be opened in the coming days, once the favourable report of the final inspection that has been carried out this week arrives. The approved company ASES XXI has given its approval to this latest revision, which has consisted of checking the routes and other specific measures. Morales explains that the opening has been slightly delayed by the number of necessary final revisions that an attraction of this type has to pass, especially in the last phase. Now that everything is finished, we are only waiting for the arrival of the report, which as specified by the company will take about 5 days. Tickets for the zip line can be
purchased at the Casa Natal de Blas Infante once it opens for public use, the price will be six euros for those registered on the Padron in Casares and twelve euros for non-registered, although there will be different discounts for young people and for large families. The attraction will be open for two and a half hours in the morning and another two and a half hours in the afternoon, although the schedule will vary depending on the demand. According to the mayor, the main objective of this zip line and the via ferrata that is currently being built is to take advantage of the unique landscape of Casares and to encourage activity tourism, a sector on the rise in Andalucia.

El Ayuntamiento inicia la obra del Estadio de Atletismo y del aparcamiento subterráneo de casi mil plazas El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha iniciado las obras de construcción del Estadio de Atletismo y el aparcamiento subterráneo de casi un millar de plazas, en la zona situada junto al Parque Ferial y Deportivo, tras la finalización de los trabajos preparatorios. El proyecto convertirá a este equipamiento en uno de los más modernos de Andalucía. Contempla la construcción de una pista de atletismo con una superficie de 16.488 metros cuadrados, un aparcamiento para casi un millar de plazas e instalaciones anejas de locales, con un total de 3.000 metros cuadrados de superficie, que serán destinados a futuros usos culturalesdeportivos. El recinto permitirá, además de la práctica de actividades de carrera, la realización de las relacionadas con el salto. Asimismo, albergará en el interior un campo de fútbol y otro de fútbol 7. Además de la edificación, el proyecto contempla una gran plaza de acceso y zonas deportivas comunes al aire libre. Junto a ello, una zona de BMX en los exteriores. El área de actuación sobre el que se desarrollará el proyecto comprende un total de 34.182 metros cuadrados, de ellos, casi 20.000 metros cuadra-
dos serán de zonas ajardinadas. Está previsto que la obra, que supone una inversión de más de 6,1 millones de euros (IVA no incluido), esté concluida antes de que finalice 2018. El alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, ha señalado que es “uno de los grandes proyectos para Estepona en este mandato, que permite una gran polivalencia de usos”. Asimismo, se ha referido a que esta nueva infraestructura contribuirá a la consolidación de esta zona norte de la ciudad como la gran área deportiva y lúdica dentro de Estepona; “la más importante y que ha logrado en los últimos años un espectacular crecimiento”, consiguiendo con esta actuación complementar la oferta de ocio y dotar de aparcamientos a los usos que se desarrollan en el entorno, tales como el Parque Ferial y Deportivo, el campo de fútbol Muñoz Pérez, el Auditorio Felipe VI, el circuito de Karting y ahora el Estadio de Atletismo. En relación al aparcamiento, se plantea un parking en dos niveles bajo el estadio de atletismo, con la misma extensión superficial que ella: un Nivel 0 (Planta Baja) con acceso directo desde la avenida principal a la misma cota, y un Nivel 1 (Planta Alta),
sobre el anterior, con lo que la pista queda sobreelevada respecto a la avenida pero a nivel del viario posterior que linda con el Parque Ferial, facilitando los accesos tanto peatonales como rodados. Asimismo, contará con un espacio reservado para autobuses. Se consigue, de esta forma, un

aparcamiento semi-subterráneo con plazas de acceso público bajo la pista de atletismo y una zona de locales -de 3.000 metros cuadrados de superficie totalpara futuros usos sociodeportivos. A esto se añaden una serie de espacios complementarios del uso deportivo ubicados en los distintos niveles para vestuarios,
almacenes, dependencias para deportistas, palcos o gradas cubiertas, con capacidad para 1.800 personas. El edificio dispone de multitud de accesos peatonales y un doble acceso rodado a las dos plantas de aparcamiento por dos viales diferentes, lo que permite una flexibilidad de uso.

The project will turn this sports facility into one of the most modern in Andalucia. It includes the construction of an athletics track with an area of 16,488 square meters, parking for almost
a thousand vehicles and other facilities, covering a total area of 3,000 square meters, to be used for future cultural and sporting uses. In addition to the running track,
there will be facilities for other field events, and will also feature a football pitch and 7-a-side pitch. The project includes a large plaza and common outdoor sports areas, along with a BMX track. The work, which involves an investment of more than 6.1 million euros, is expected to be completed before the end of 2018. The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, stated that it is "one of the great projects for Estepona in this term, which allows
a great variety of uses". Likewise, he has referred to the fact that this new infrastructure will contribute to the consolidation of this northern area of the town as Estepona’s main sports and leisure area; "This facility has achieved spectacular growth in recent years", the project will provide parking for existing facilities, such as the fairground and sports are, the Muñoz Pérez Football Stadium, and the Felipe VI Theatre, the Karting circuit and now the Athletics Stadium.

Estepona ahorra 2,5 millones de euros en consumo Estepona cuenta con una pista de hielo de más eléctrico con su Plan de Eficiencia Energética de 500 metros cuadrados. El Ayuntamiento de Estepona informa que en los últimos cinco años ha conseguido reducir en un 47,26% por ciento el consumo de energía eléctrica tras la implantación de una serie de sistemas y técnicas que disminuyen el gasto energético. El teniente alcalde del área de Servicios, Blas Ruzafa, ha recordado que el Consistorio puso en marcha en septiembre de 2012 un Plan de Optimización Energética para reducir el gasto en la factura de la luz, lo que se ha traducido en un ahorro de 2,5 millones de euros desde entonces. El Ayuntamiento ha actuado en este periodo de manera global sobre más de 5.500 puntos de luz en el municipio dentro de este Plan de Optimización Energética. Así, según ha explicado Ruzafa, se han sustituido las lámparas que estaban al final de su vida útil y se han colocado nuevas lámparas de halogenuro metálico y vapor de sodio de alta precisión, mucho más eficientes que las tradicionales. Estas lámparas se han colocado en las avenidas principales de la ciudad y en el casco histórico. Además, en todos los puntos de luz se han sustituido los equipos de encendi-
do electromagnéticos por otros equipos electrónicos programables y se han sustituido un total de 160 relojes analógicos de encendido y apagado del alumbrado por otros relojes astronómicos. En cuanto a los edificios y dependencias municipales las actuaciones en eficiencia energética se han basado en una sustitución parcial de las luminarias existentes por otras con tecnología Led, se han eliminado resistencias eléctricas, radiadores y termoventiladores como sistemas de calefacción y, además, se ha realizado una importante labor de optimización de las potencias contratadas y las tarifas de aplicación en cada contrato. Por otro lado, el edil ha apuntado que “desde el punto de vista medio ambiental se consigue también una importante reducción de la huella de carbono del municipio, que son los gases invernadero que se emiten a la atmósfera”, por lo que reducimos considerablemente la contaminación. Así en Estepona con la disminución del consumo energético que se ha conseguido se ha dejado de emitir a la atmósfera 1.856 toneladas de CO2 por año.

Los Alamos Beach Music Festival moves to Estepona The Los Alamos Beach Festival will be holding its fourth edition in Estepona from August 1 to 5 2018, moving from its original venue in Torremolinos. The move has come about after the organisers failed to reach an agreement with the local authorities in Torremolinos following complaints about noise and disruption at this year's event. The organisers also felt that the electronic
music festival, which attracted 60,000 festival goers last year, had outgrown its original venue and the new location at Estepona’s fairground would provide room for more stages, double the camping facilities, and offer better facilities. The festival organisers have ambitions to make the Los Álamos Beach Festival a big fixture on the European festival calendar.

El equipo de gobierno aprueba el presupuesto municipal para el 2018
E
l Equipo de Gobierno aprobó en pleno el documento político más importante del Ayuntamiento, el presupuesto general para el ejercicio 2018. Para la elaboración de éste Presupuesto se han pretendido adecuar todas las actuaciones a los principios de sostenibilidad financiera y estabilidad presupuestaria donde el carácter social tiene un peso fundamental en su elaboración. Según explicó el concejal de Hacienda, Marcos Ruiz: "El presupuesto general del Ayuntamiento de Manilva para el ejercicio económico de 2018 tiene como principal característica, su austeridad, realismo y adaptación a los tiempos dando respuesta sin ningún tipo de recorte a los servicios consolidados y que este Ayuntamiento viene prestando a sus ciudadanos desde hace tiempo, reforzando departamentos esenciales que así lo requieren". La cuantía económica del estado los ingresos del Ayuntamiento para el año 2018 pasa de los 25.702.994,04€ de 2017 a 26.489.436,73€ en 2018. Respecto a los gastos, de los 22.405.347,36€ de 2017 se aumenta a 23.102.248,41€ en 2018. Destaca el afán del Equipo de Gobierno por dotar al municipio de las mejores infraestructuras, con una partida en Urbanismo, Obras y Saneamiento de 1.378.765,44€. Hacienda, Formación y el Fomento del Empleo, Desarrollo Local y Estadística cuenta con un presupuesto de 3.318.794,83€, donde las becas para estudiante,
cursos de formación y los programas que fomenten el empleo son fundamentales. Para el Comercio, Consumo, Extranjeros y Medio Ambiente. Apoyar a los empresarios y el comercio local, desarrollo medioambiental sostenible y la integración del residente extranjero tendrán una partida de 72.500,00 €. La Limpieza, Recogida de Residuos Sólidos y el mantenimiento de Parques y Jardines es otro de los puntos fundamentales aumentando el presupuesto en 1.025.500,00€. El deporte, las escuelas deportivas y las instalaciones contará con una partida de 930.920,48€, con los 461.944,36€ para Cultura, Playas y Costa. Asuntos Sociales, Igualdad, Participación Ciudadana y Vivienda cuenta con 677.240,00€, donde destaca el Programa de Emergencia Social, políticas contra la exclusión social, el taxi vecinal, subvenciones a asociaciones y el mantenimiento del Banco de Alimentos y rehabilitación de viviendas. Educación, Turismo, Agricultura y Ganadería, tendrá 209.300 € para los centros escolares y guarderías, potenciar la oferta turística y acabar con la estacionalidad. Sin duda, uno de los principales asuntos en los que trabajar es la Sanidad, donde se garantiza el servicio municipal de Urgencias con una importante partida para mejorarlo de 242.400€, aunque desde el Equipo de Gobierno seguirán trabajando para que los organismos responsables cubran las necesidades de todos los vecinos. Manilva Town Council approves the municipal budget for 2018
M
anilva’s local government has approved in full the municipality’s most important political document, the general budget for the year 2018. The budget has been compiled with the principles of financial sustainability and budgetary stability, along with social considerations at the forefront As explained by the councillor for Finance, Marcos Ruiz: "The general budget of the Municipality of Manilva for the financial year of 2018 has as its main characteristic, its austerity, realism and adaptation to the current economic and social climate giving priority without any cuts to the consolidated services provided for residents and reinforcing essential departments that require it." Manilva’s income for the year 2018 is forecast to rise from € 25,702,994 in 2017 to € 26,489,436 in 2018. With expenses, of € 22,405,347 in 2017 increasing to € 23,102,248 in
2018. The Budget highlights the eagerness of the Government Team to provide the municipality with the best infrastructure, with a budget of € 1,378,765 for Urban Planning, Works and Sanitation. Finance, Training and the Promotion of Employment, Local Development and Statistics has a budget of € 3,318,794, with scholarships for students, training courses and programs that promote employment a priority. For the departments of Commerce, Consumer, Foreigners and the Environment. Support for local entrepreneurs and commerce, sustainable environmental development and integration of foreign residents will have an allowance of € 72,500. The departments for Cleaning, Refuse Collection and the maintenance of Parks and Gardens is another important service with an increased budget of € 1,025,500.
Sports and Youth receives € 930,920, with € 461,944.36 for Culture, Beaches and Coast. Social Affairs, Equality, Citizen Participation and Housing has a budget of € 677,240.00, which highlights the Social Emergency Program, policies tackling social exclusion, taxi discounts, subsidies to associations and the maintenance of the Food Bank and housing rehabilitation. Education, Tourism, Agriculture and Livestock, will have € 209,300 for schools and nurseries, boosting tourism and tackling seasonal employment. Undoubtedly, one of the main areas is Health, where the municipal emergency service is guaranteed with a budget of € 242,400, although the local government will continue to demand that those agencies that should be funding these services honour their commitments to Manilva residents.

Hasta el 31 de diciembre estará abierto el plazo de subvención del IBI El alcalde de Manilva, Mario Jiménez, el concejal de Hacienda, Marcos Ruiz, y los ediles Antonio Barragán, Agustín Vargas, Eva Galindo, Francisco Miguel Álvarez y Juani Ortiz anunciaron, en rueda de prensa, una nueva bajada de impuestos. En este caso y con el fin de seguir aliviando la presión fiscal de los vecinos de la localidad, se bajará el tipo impositivo del IBI rústico. Las casas de campo así como las tierras que pagan la contribución, verán reducidos sus impuestos de cara al próximo año 2018 en medio punto. Así, el tipo impositivo pasará del 0.5% al 0.45%. Una buena noticia que se suma a las bajadas ya anunciadas por parte del Equipo de Gobierno y que sin duda beneficia notablemente la economía de los ciudadanos. Con esta medida, el Ayuntamiento de Manilva dejará de percibir 20.000 euros, un gasto asumible para las arcas municipales y cuyo objetivo es el de seguir mejorando la situación
de la población. El concejal de Hacienda, Marcos Ruiz, aprovechaba la ocasión para recordar que hace unos días se daba a conocer la bonificación del 30% del recibo del IBI urbano. En este caso, los contribuyentes podrán solicitar esta ayuda hasta el próximo 31 de diciembre. Es fundamental entregar la documentación requerida para obtener estas ayudas por registro de entrada en el Ayuntamiento de Manilva o en la Tenencia de alcaldía de Sabinillas. Cabe resaltar que los solicitantes cuyos expedientes sean aprobados no tendrán que volver a pedir esta bonificación hasta el año 2020, a no ser que su situación personal varíe. A través de la sede electrónica en Ayudas y Subvenciones, el ciudadano puede solicitar la bonificación al IBI. Para ello se han subido las plantillas correspondientes. Gran representación del deporte manilveño en la Gala Jugador Doce
El deporte manilveño estuvo representado el pasado jueves en la velada deportiva de uno de los eventos más notorios del panorama nacional, la gala de la revista Jugador Doce. El alcalde de Manilva, Mario Jiménez, el concejal de Deportes, Agustín Vargas y el escalador local Rogelio Pascual tuvieron un protagonismo especial ya que subieron al escenario para entregar tres premios. Uno de los momentos más espectaculares y entrañables de la noche fue la participación de los jóvenes del C.D.Manilva Basketbase que formaron, junto con otros niños y niñas, un mosaico con las portadas de todas las revistas de Jugador Doce. El deporte manilveño contó con dos nominaciones. Por un lado María Flores, del Club Ciclista de Manilva,
fue nominada en la categoría de “Mejor deportista femenina sub 18”. La otra mención también estuvo relacionada con el ciclismo. Se trata de la Maratón BTT de la Vendimia, que optó al “Mejor evento deportivo”. Aunque finalmente no fueron elegidas, todo el mundo del deporte ha reconocido la magnífica labor que desarrolla el Club Ciclista de Manilva, tanto en la práctica de dicha disciplina como el desarrollo de las jóvenes promesas y también en la organización de eventos de gran participación y magnitud. Los citados responsables municipales animaron a los integrantes del club Ciclista en particular y a los deportistas locales en general a seguir disfrutando de esta vida saludable consiguiendo retos personales y colectivos.
Manilva’s sporting stars well represented at the Jugador Doce Sports Awards Manilva’s sportspersons were well represented last Thursday at the sports evening of one of the most important events on the national sporting scene, the Jugador Doce Awards, organised by the local sporting magazine ‘Jugador Doce’ (The Twelfth Player). The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, the Sports Councilor, Agustín Vargas and the local climbing champion Rogelio Pascual had a special role as they took the stage to deliver three prizes. One of the most spectacular and endearing moments of the night was the participation of the youth of C.D.Manilva Basket Club who formed, together with other children, a
mosaic with the covers of back issues of the magazine. Manilva sport had two nominations. María Flores, from the Cycling Club of Manilva, was nominated in the category of "Best female athlete sub 18". The other mention was also related to cycling. It is the Manilva BTT Marathon, which was nominated for the "Best sporting event". Although finally they were not chosen, the entire world of sports has recognized the magnificent work done by the Cycling Club of Manilva, both in the practice of this discipline and the development of young talent and also in the organization of events.

Se cumple un nuevo trámite para la realidad del punto limpio El alcalde de Manilva, Mario Jiménez y el concejal de Relaciones Institucionales, Francisco Miguel Álvarez, se han personado en la Diputación Provincial de Málaga para mantener una reunión con el delegado de Fomento e infraestructura, Francisco Oblaré, para tratar diferentes asuntos de interés para el municipio y con el fin de desbloquear varios expedientes que se encontraban paralizados. Entre los asuntos más destacados, el punto limpio en el polígono industrial de la Dehesilla en Manilva. Se trata de un proyecto que se hallaba en suspensión y que se ha puesto en marcha. Este proyecto se sacó a licitación pública,
dando un paso más al ser adjudicado por un importe de entorno a 150.000 € IVA incluido. Esta instalación que se construirá sobre una parcela municipal de unos 3.000 metros cuadrados, contará con un contenedor de 32 metros cúbicos para madera; 3 contenedores de 2,5 metros cúbicos para papel, cartón y vidrio; 2 para aceite de 3 metros cúbicos; 3 de 0,6 metros cúbicos para baterías, pintura y disolventes y cuatro contenedores de 0,24 metros cúbicos destinados a aerosoles, radiografías, pilas y fluorescentes, entre otros residuos.

¿ES USTED VICTIMA DE UN ACCIDENTE DE TRÁFICO? LE INTERESARÁ LEER ESTE ARTÍCULO
S
i usted es víctima de unaccidentetiene derecho a ser indemnizado por los daños sufridos, físicos, materiales o personales. Los daños materiales son aquellos que afectan al vehículo o a otros objetos transportados debido al accidente. Los daños personales son los que padecen las personas implicadas en el accidente, ya sean conductores, pasajeros o peatones.Se podrá reclamar la indemnización tanto por daños personales (perjuicio personal por pérdida temporal de calidad de vida: muy grave, grave o moderado y las secuelas), como por los gastos derivados del accidente (rehabilitación privada, collarines, medicación, transporte, etc.), así como el perjuicio patrimonial ( lucro cesante, que es la pérdida o disminución temporal de ingresos netos provenientes del trabajo personal del lesionado, o en su caso de su dedicación exclusiva a las tareas del hogar). La cuantía de la indemnización de estos daños se fija de conformidad a unas reglas que no se pueden aplicar de manera automática, ya que existen multitud de factores que
pueden influir en función de las circunstancias y del alcance y repercusión de los daños ocasionados. La estimación de estos daños se realiza de forma individual, teniendo en cuenta en cada caso la repercusión que el daño produce en la vida de la víctima o en la de las personas que dependen de él.
Tras la entrada en vigor de la Reforma del Código Penal en julio de 2015, para solicitar la indemnización por accidente de tráfico los pasos a seguir varían, pues los juicios de falta por la vía penal por accidente de tráfico desaparecen. Ahora, para poder reclamar una indemnización por accidente de tráfico la vía a utilizar es la civil. La modificación del Código Penal y la posterior Ley 35/2015, de 22 de septiembrede reforma del sistema para la valoración de los daños y perjuicios causados a las personas en accidentes de circulación, han sentado las bases para la nueva forma de actuar cuando se nos plantean reclamaciones de este tipo, siendo el objetivo incrementar la protección a las víctimas mediante la garantía de una
indemnización suficiente, es decir, la REPARACIÓN INTEGRA DE LOS DAÑOS Y PERJUICIOS. Se intenta conseguiruna más rápida y satisfactoria reparación de la víctima o perjudicado, evitando el procedimiento judicial.Por ello, es importante un aspecto novedoso, como es la obligación de reclamación previa de la víctima o perjudicado a la compañía de seguros. Recuerde que si el vehículo contrario no tiene seguro, o se dio a la fuga sin poder ser localizado, la indemnización corresponderá al Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros, entidad pública adscrita al Ministerio de Economía que tiene por objeto, entre otras funciones: Indemnizar los accidentes por daños personales que se hayan producido en España cuando el vehículo responsable sea desconocido. También se cubrirán los daños sufridos en los bienes si la víctima hubiera fallecido o sufriera una incapacidad permanente o una incapacidad temporal que requiera una estancia hospitalaria superior a siete días. Indemnizar los daños en las personas y en los bienes, producidos por vehículos que no están asegurados o que han sido robados. Indemnizar los daños derivados de un accidente de circulación cuando exista controversia entre el consorcio y la compañía de seguros. Por ello, es importante contar con un abogado experto que le asesore y le gestione su reclamación, para proteger sus derechos y poder conseguir la reparación integra de los daños causados. ictims of traffic accidents are usually entitled to some kind of compensation. The compensation comes under two categories Firstly, Physical Damage, which covers the right for damages due to personal injuries sustained by any of the parties involved in the accident, , i.e. drivers, passengers or pedestrians. Secondly, Material Damage, which covers any damage caused to vehicles or other objects involved in the accident. Personal Compensation can be claimed both for personal injury that causes temporary loss of the victim’s quality of life varying in degree from very serious, serious, to moderate, (including private rehabilitation, collars, medication, transport, etc), and for any expenses or loss of income, resulting from the accident, i.e. profit loss, financial loss, salary loss, which cause a reduction income, or in the case of a person dedicated to housework, cause extra expenses to cover their temporary inability to carry out their normal duties at home. The compensation to be awarded is calculated individually and in accordance with rules that cannot be applied automatically as there are many factors that influence their application. Including taking into consideration the repercussions and implications that the damage produces in the life of each individual and in the life of the people who depend upon said victim. Since the application of the Penal Code Reform in July 2015, the steps to be taken in order to request compensation for traffic accident have changed as now traffic accident lawsuits have to be claimed for through the Civil Courts and not through the Criminal courts as before. This amendment of the Criminal Code and the subsequent Law 35/2015, dated September 22, reforming the system for the assessment of damages caused to people involved in traffic accidents, provided the groundwork for the new and potentially more efficient way of acting when we raise claims of this type. The objective being to increase the protection of victims by guaranteeing sufficient COMPENSATION FOR DAMAGES AND INJURIES INCURRED, in a prompt and fair manner, and avoiding the judicial procedure. In order to do this the injured party must make claim from their insurance company beforehand.
Don’t forget that If the other vehicle involved is not insured or does not stop and cannot be located any compensation should be covered by The Insurance Compensation Consortium, which is a public body attached to the Ministry of Economy. Among other obligations this Consortium is required to compensate the injured parties in Spain when a vehicle cannot be found or is not insured. Material damage is also covered in the case of death of the victim or when the victim suffers temporary incapacity, (i.e. required to stay in hospital for more than 7 days), or also in cases of permanent incapacity; They should also compensate damages to persons and property, produced by vehicles that are not insured or that have been stolen and pay compensation for damages arising from a traffic accident where there is a dispute between the consortium and the insurance company. Therefore, it is important to have an expert lawyer to advise and manage your claim, to protect your rights and to be able to get full compensation for the damages caused. Os escribo algunas palabras para la Navidad y el Año Nuevo como vuestro Concejal de Residentes Extranjeros, Medioambiente, Comercio y Consumo y Presidente de la conocida organización benéfica local de Saint George. No sé vosotros, pero este año no ha sido exactamente uno de mis favoritos. Cada año deseamos y esperamos y nuestros amigos y familia nos desean una feliz Navidad con un año nuevo excepcionalmente próspero y feliz. No quiero sonar triste o sombrío, pero nuestra
pequeña comunidad ha perdido demasiadas buenas y preciosas personas este año. A veces me he tenido que preguntar la pregunta obvia, que nunca tiene una respuesta: ¿qué está pasando? Este año he llorado, como muchos de vosotros. Al cierre de esta edición, la última buena persona que nos ha sido arrebatada ha sido el jefe de bomberos para Manilva, Casares y Estepona, Antonio J. García Ocón. Antonio era uno de esos pocos profesionales hoy en día que amaba su trabajo, a su familia, amigos y a todos con los
que estaba en contacto. Siempre hacía más de lo que podía para ayudar a cualquier persona o en cualquier situación si pensaba que podría hacer mejor las cosas. Antonio era el jefe de bomberos local a quien la Organización Benéfica St. George patrocinó para ir a Lesbos en el 2016. Por favor, tened en vuestros pensamientos, aunque sea un poco, a las familias y amigos que han perdido a alguien querido, quizá no lo estén pasando tan bien como vosotros ahora, así que llama, dedica una cálida sonrisa un abrazo o simplemente unas palabras bonitas en una tarjeta navideña. Por otro lado, también han nacido preciosos bebés que nos dan mucha felicidad, noches sin dormir y alegría, para restaurar nuestro espíritu navideño. Aprovecho esta oportunidad para dar las gracias a todos los voluntarios y colaboradores, que son muchos para nombrarlos uno por uno, que han trabajado tan duro y desinteresadamente para la Organización Benéfica St. George, ya sea en las tiendas, organizando, o simplemente asistiendo a los muchos eventos que hemos celebrado estos 12 meses. Nos has ayudado a ayudar y contribuir a muchas
causas benéficas en San Roque, La Línea, Manilva, Casares y hasta Estepona. Quiero incluir aquí la recién formada “Buddy Up Manilva Group” que trabaja de cerca con la Organización Benéfica St. George y con Age Concern Estepona-Manilva para identificar a personas que necesiten diferentes servicios de atención y cuidado. En cuanto a la política, este año ha sido mucho más productivo que el 2015/16, aunque la montaña sigue siendo alta. Hay mucho que hacer y muy poco tiempo.
Espero poder actualizaros en futuras ediciones de The Resident de lo que estamos planeando y qué está pasando localmente. Quiero confirmar aquí y ahora que me presentaré al cargo de nuevo en 2019, así que, permaneced atentos o enviad vuestras preguntas a The Resident e intentaré responderlas en la siguiente edición. Finalmente, deseo a mis dos chicas y a todos vosotros mucho amor, salud, felicidad y una muy Feliz Navidad y Próspero Año Nuevo.

Manilva Councillor for Foreign Residents, Commerce, Consumers, and the Environment A few words for Christmas and the New Year from me to you as your local town Councillor for Foreign Residents, The Environment, Trade, Commerce, Consumers
& President of the locally known charity of Saint George. I really don’t know about you, but this year has not exactly been what I would call one of my favourites.
Every year we wish, desire and hope for, and are cordially wished by our friends, family and peers a happy and festive season with an exceptionally prosperous and happy new year. I don’t want to sound down or gloomy, but our small community has lost so many, far too many to mention good and beautiful people this year. At times I have had to stop and ask myself the obvious question with no plausible answer; what the hell is going on? This year I have literally like so many of you cried and cried and cried. At going to press the last beautiful good person taken from us has been our local to Manilva, Casares and Estepona fire chief Antonio J. García Ocón, Antonio was one of so few professionals nowadays that had a 100% love of his job, family, friends and everybody else he came into contact with, he always went that extra mile necessary to help any person or situation if he thought he could make things a little better. Antonio was the local fire chief who
the St George Charity sponsored to go to Lesbos back in 2016. Please spare a thought or two this festive season for the family and friends of those who have lost somebody they loved dearly, they might not be having such a good time as you right now so give them a call, a warm smile, hug or simply a few nice words in a Christmas card. On the bright side of things some very gorgeous babies and new mummies have decided to join us adding lots of happiness, sleepless nights and joy back into our local Christmas spirit. Taking this rare opportunity, I would like to thank all the volunteers and collaborators “far too many to name individually” that have worked so hard and selflessly for the St George Charity either in one of the shops or in organising, or simply attending the so many different events we have held through the last twelve months. You have helped us give aid and contribute to so many diverse charitable causes local to San Roque, La
Linea, Manilva, Casares through to Estepona. Including and not least the newly formed “Buddy Up Manilva Group” which working closely with the St George Charity and Age Concern Estepona – Manilva to identify people in need of an array of different care services etc. Politically speaking this year has been much more productive than 2015/16 although the mountain is high. So much more to do and so little time to try and do it in. I'll hopefully update you in future editions of the Resident of what’s planned and what’s going on locally. I confirm here and now that I will be running for office again in 2019 so watch this space or send in a question to the Resident and I'll try and answer it in the following edition with your attached question. Finally, I wish both of my girls and all of you lots of love, health, happiness and a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous “better than last year”, New Year.

Another year draws to a close and Christmas is upon us once more. Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva, has had a hectic year with the separation of San Pedro and Marbella into a new Age Concern Organisation, the establishment of strong working links with the Duquesa Charitable Society of Saint George in Sabinillas, and the increase in the number of complex cases referred to us. Life is hard for so many of our older contacts and getting harder. Without our dedicated volunteers and supporters we would find it almost impossible to cope with all of the requests for information, advice and help. So a big thank you to all of them. Fund raising has been crucial in supporting the work of our volunteers in the community.
A recent lunch for volunteers was recently held at El Hatillo in Estepona which brought many of the workers together for a great meal and a good natter about the work they do. We have had meetings with the Council to try and get help from them with, for example, storage facilities, but in spite of promises nothing has happened, so we will be chasing them again early in the New Year. Why no response? We have no idea. It is as if once we have met them they immediately forget about it. Anyway we want to wish all of your readers a Very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. Thank you for your continuing support, lets make sure all of the older people who ask for help get it!

Our shop in Calle Zaragoza, Estepona acts as the focal point for the charity as well as raising much needed funds. In spite of the building works progressing along side us where an underground car park is being excavated (known by

us as the swimming pool with mud slide) we are open for business five days a week from 10 am. to 1.30 pm. Volunteers to run the shop are always needed and we have several vacancies at the moment. Boxing Day sponsored swim After the success of last year’s Sabi Spartan Boxing Day Swim, which raised nearly a thousand euros for charity, local resident Ian Ewing is
organising the third edition of this event, in collaboration with the St George Charity and the Nyland Knight Foundation.
The swim takes place around 12 noon on Tuesday 26 December in front of the statue in Sabinillas. All swimmers are welcome, and if you don’t fancy braving the waves then you can always help by sponsoring someone who is. St George Charity launches the 2017 Christmas Gift Appeal The Duquesa Charitable Society of St. George 2017 Children’s Gift Appeal has just been launched and the charity needs your donations to achieve their target to provide gifts for around 500 local underprivileged children this festive season. The St George charity is looking for donations of cash, which will then used to put together gift bags for underprivileged children aged from 3 to 16 years of age as identified by the local Social Services Departments in Manilva and Casares, and the Emaus Social Kitchen in Estepona. Last
year the charity provided gift bags for around 490 children. Cash donations can be made at the St George Charity’s shops in Calle Duquesa de Arcos (opposite O’Callaghans) and in Plaza de las Naranjas, Sabinillas as well as the newly opened shop in Avenida Marqués del Duero, 9, Cancelada, Estepona. In response to a tragic situation earlier in the year a number of local residents have come together to form the BuddyUp (Manilva) Community Support Group, a ‘befriending’ group to provide support, comfort and a point of contact for people facing a variety of challenges. The BuddyUp group is coordinated by Marguerite Wilkins, and already has a number of members signed up. Working closely with other local charities and organisations, including the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George, Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva, Citizens’ Advice, Cudeca, Social Services, etc., the group aims to provide support and advice for the elderly, disabled, those who have recently lost a partner, single parents, divorcees, the socially excluded, people that are new to the area, in fact anyone who might need someone to talk to or just pointing in the right direction.
BuddyUp volunteers work in pairs and have access to a wide range of resources to call upon depending on the needs of those they are assisting. ding en el que los empleados tenían que construir las bicicletas a partir de kits básicos. Tras el ejercicio, la empresa donó las bicis a varias organizaciones benéficas, incluyendo Saint George. Las bicicletas han sido asignadas por sorteo realizado por el departamento de Servicios Sociales de Manilva, y serán entregadas a tiempo para llevar una sonrisa en algunos rostros infantiles estas Navidades.

The charity had been contacted several weeks ago by Gibraltar based online gaming software provider Playtech. who were running a team-building exercise
which involved groups of employees building the bikes from basic kits. Following the exercise the company donated the bikes to a number of charities including the Saint George Charity. The bicycles have been allocated by lottery administered by the Manilva Social Services department, and will be delivered in time to put a smile on some children's faces this coming Christmas.

Autumn is one of the times of year when depression is more frequent and intense, but this does not only affect humans; our pets also can become sad and apathetic, as confirmed by several experts. One of the most common reasons why we suffer from autumnal depression is it follows the summer vacation period with a return to the routine of daily life, an attitude that can be transmitted to our pets and bring them to slow down their activity level, letting their melancholic eyelids fall over their eyes, however, there is help for them too. Carolina Pinedo, environmental journalist and member of the NGO Defence Animal Rights Association (ADDA), explained to EFE Verde that depression is associated mainly to the change in routine that takes place after the summer holidays, “regardless that in autumn there is a time change and there is less daylight”. To Pinedo, “depression in pets, both dogs and cats, can be caused by many reasons but only the owner who knows their pet best, can tell whether the pet is experiencing a chronic, transitory, or seasonal depression”. It is the opinion of Miguel Ibanez, professor on the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and director of the Center
for Animal Behavioral Medicine at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), in a statement to EFE Verde that, “the causes of depression in any animal, including humans, is the result of a state of emotional distress and anxiety, to which there is no chance to react”. To begin with the place where a pet lives, usually a flat, may be a stressful situation because that does not usually provide them with the special features or sufficient means to meet the natural needs the animal may have. “The same thing could happen to a person living in an apartment without being able to fulfill certain needs, such as social interaction and/or the inability to work outside of the home milieu, or in such conditions where one is living a very controlled life, as can be seen in the prisons, where the chances of anxiety or depression are very high because one of the great, basic needs is lacking; that of social interactions and relationships “, describes the expert. The most obvious signs that are noticeable when an animal suffers from this problem are sadness, a reduction in their normal activity, increasing apathy and reduced appetite.

El mismo lugar donde vive una mascota, generalmente un piso, le proporciona una situación estresante de partida, ya que no suele disponer de las características especiales ni los medios suficientes para atender las necesidades naturales que pueda tener el animal. “Lo mismo que le podría ocurrir al ser humano que vive en un piso sin disponer de determinadas condiciones como son la socialización y la imposibilidad de trabajar en el exterior, o con una vida muy controlada como pueda ser en los penales, donde las posibilidades de ansiedad o depresión son muy altos porque falta una de las grandes necesidades: la relación social”, describe este experto. Los síntomas más evidentes que muestra un animal cuando sufre este problema son tristeza, reducción de su actividad habitual, incremento de la apatía y menor apetito..

The holiday season is fast approaching, with it lots of savoury delights, just as we need to take care in what we indulge in so should we be aware of what treats our four legged family members are feasting on as well! Be careful with overdoing the table scraps, there is a tendency to be generous with turkey skins, cracklings or other fatty cast off bits, they may lead to serious pancreatic problems. Meat, poultry, and fish bones are definite items to avoid. A carnivore is a meat eater not a bone eater; sooner or later their consumption will cause problems that could be fatal. Bones are definitely a bad idea and now there are substitutes, commercially available which will do no harm. Eating grass or other plant material may make them sick or could even be poisonous. Una vez en casa se debe tener cuidado con las sobras de las comidas ya que hay una tendencia de ser generosos con los pellejos de pavo, cortezas de cerdo u otros restos grasientos, aquellos que pueden producir problemas digestivos o pancreáticos. Un carnívoro come carne y no es un huesívoro, o sea comedor de huesos, tarde o temprano producirá problemas que pueden tener un desenlace fatal. Los huesos no son buenos y ahora hay sustitutivos disponibles en tiendas que no causarán daños a nuestra mascota. Comiendo césped, hierba o plantas podría sentales mal. El chocolate es muy perjudicial para ellos. Además, recientemente se ha señalado que la flor de pascula también es venenosa para perros y gatos.

The importance of strength training Can you believe that December is here, it seems only 5 minutes ago that we were making last year’s New Year resolutions. Over the last two months we have looked at the importance of resistance training or weight training as part of a fitness regime. It is great for building lean muscle mass, reducing body fat and
improving core stability plus all the benefits of increasing bone density. The final part of this programme is the importance of push ups or bench press. Most people think that a push up is just a chest and arm workout, but if done correctly it can stimulate many more muscles as part of the stabilising process,
including shoulders, back, abs and hips. I always recommend that my clients improve their push up technique before increasing their load on bench press, I believe that each of my clients should be able to perform 10 honest push ups before even moving onto bench press.

An honest push-up moves slowly from full extension to a point of maximum depth without “reaching” for the ground or perturbing the body’s taut, rigid, straight-line posture, and then returns rigidly to full extension. mistakes,either with your nose your chest or your pelvis, you should challenge your body so that nothing touches the ground, keep the body taut rigid and in a straight line, squeeze your bottom, belly and hips, push from the shoulders and not from the arms. No bottom in the air and no sagging belly, either one of these would be an imperfect rep, remember we are looking for strict honest push ups, no resting at either the bottom of the push up or the top until each set is finished.

Are we too fat for Christmas? There is a "stark" increase between the ages of seven and 11 in the proportion of children in the UK who are overweight or obese, new data suggests. The study of nearly 12,000 children found 25% were overweight or obese at age seven, rising to 35% at 11. Between 11 and 14, there was little change, however, which researchers say may be because children of this age are making more of their own food choices. Campaigners are calling for more action on weight issues in younger children. Data also shows us that obesity in children often leads to obesity in adults.

Practice push ups as a stand alone exercise, one of my favorite is a Tabata workout. Tabata is a High Intensity Interval workout. you choose one exercise and perform it for 20 seconds, then rest for 10 seconds, repeat a total of 8 times. When doing a Tabata for push ups, aim to complete the same amount of honest strict push ups on every round, this is a massive challenge, guaranteed to make your body work hard and the great news is it only takes 4 minutes . Make a note of how many push ups you manage each round, and aim to improve this score every time you try this challenge. when you can perform 50 honest push ups, you will know that your body is ready for progression, whether this be to move on to a bench press or more technical gymnastic moves. El jueves 21 se acaba el plazo de inscripción para participar en el Campus de Baloncesto de Navidad Con la llegada del mes de diciembre y como es habitual, desde el área de Deportes y el Club Deportivo Manilva Basket Base ya plantean una nueva edición del “Campus de baloncesto Navidad”. Según la Delegación de Juventud y Deportes, dirigida por Agustín Vargas, el campamento se desarrollará desde el 26 hasta el 29 de diciembre próximos. Para despedir el año el Club Internacional de Esgrima ha organizado la octava Competición Amistosa Internacional de Esgrima. A la competición acudieron esgrimistas desde los cuatro años de edad tanto en categoría femenina como masculina. Pequeños y grandes tiradores acudieron a la cita en el Polideportivo Municipal Ciudad de San Roque que contó con el calor y la ilusión de participantes y organizadores. Tomaron parte más de 70 deportistas de los principales colegios internacionales de la Costa del Sol y Campo de Gibraltar así como de la Escuela Deportiva de Base de San Roque, el Castillo de la Duquesa y Escuela Municipal de Esgrima de Estepona. Desde aquí damos las gracias a los responsables de deporte base por estimular la práctica de
deportes nuevos y en concreto de esta disciplina que tiene la belleza de la danza, la agresividad de las artes marciales, la filosofía de los antiguos caballeros y la estrategia del ajedrez. Todos los participantes y sus familias así como el numeroso público que acudió a la competición disfrutaron de la magnífica exhibición de estos deportistas. Para algunos de ellos fue su primera prueba demostrando una gran competitividad y juego limpio que les hicieron acreedores de trofeos conmemorativos para despedir el año. Los ganadores en categoría absoluta fueron Jann Bade de Finlandia (campeón internacional de su categoría), Hamish Kamaie, Daniel Arminio, Fran Pérez y Gabriel Miño en su primera competición oficial. Great turnout for the VIII San Roque International Fencing Tournament To bid farewell to the year the International Fencing Club organized the 8th International Friendly Fencing Competition. The competition was attended by fencers from four years of age in both male and female category. Fencers of all ages attended the tournament at the San Roque Sports Centre that resounded to the warmth and enthusiasm of participants and organizers. Over 70 fencers took part, coming from the main international schools of the Costa del Sol and Campo de Gibraltar as well as the San Roque Sports School, the Duquesa Castle School and the Estepona Municipal School of Fencing. The International Fencing School thanks those responsible for encouraging this sport based on
stimulating the practice of new sports and specifically this discipline that has the beauty of dance, the aggressiveness of martial arts, the philosophy of ancient knights and the strategy of chess . All the participants and their families as well as the spectators that attended the competition enjoyed the magnificent exhibition of these athletes. For some of them it was their first test demonstrating a great competitiveness and fair play that earned them their commemorative trophies to end the year. The winners in absolute category were Jann Bade from Finland (international champion of his category), Hamish Kamaie, Daniel Arminio, Fran Pérez and Gabriel Miño in their first official competition. All of them made spectacular

Thursday 21 is the deadline to register for the Christmas Basketball Campus Manilva's Sports Department and the Manilva Basketball Club has organised a new edition of the "Christmas Basketball Camp." According to the Delegation of Youth and Sports, headed by Agustin Vargas, the camp will run from 26 to 29 December this year. As always, the activities will take place at the Las Viñas Sports Centre in Manilva from 9 am to 2 pm.

Josh King, jugador del equipo sub 18 del Club de Rugby del Estrecho, acudirá a la primera concentración de la selección de Andalucía de la categoría que tendrá lugar del 26 al 29 de diciembre de 2017 y se celebrará en Puertollano, Ciudad Real. King juega en tercera línea, entre las posiciones del seis y el ocho,
destaca por su fuerza y por sus enormes cualidades, tanto físicas como técnicas. Capitán del equipo de la categoría sub18, está realizando una temporada extraordinaria con el equipo, aunque los resultados a nivel de grupo no estén acompañando. Esta concentración de la selección andaluza sub18 se celebrará

Manilva resident Josh King has been called up to the Andalucia Under 18 rugby squad, which will be holding its training camp later this month at Puertollano, Ciudad Real. Josh plays for the local club, Club de Rugby del Estrecho, based in Pueblo Nuevo, Sotogrande, where he is captain of the Under 18s, and plays at number 8. Well regarded for his strength and technical
ability, King has had a good season with the team, although this is not necessarily reflected in the team’s league standing. Josh will join players from a number of Andalucian clubs including: CR Ciencias Fundación Cajasol, CR Atlético Portuense, Trocadero Marbella RC, Rugby CD Mairena, CR Malaga, CAR Sevilla and CD Universidad de Granada.
Saint George Charity provides new equipment for the Manilva Netball club
The Duquesa Charitable Society of St George continues its support for local social infrastructure by donating 150 euros for the purchase a pair of indoor netball posts for use by the Manilva Netball Club in the Sabinillas Sports Hall where they train and play during the winter months. Manilva Netball Club have now been going for 7 years and are a group of local ladies that love playing this wonderful game, and would welcome into the club anyone who has played before, or would like to learn to play. They have Spanish speakers, so if there are Spanish or other nationalities that would like to give netball a try, join them at training on Tuesday
nights from 6.30 - 8 pm, at Las Viñas Sports Centre, Manilva. The cost is €3 for adults and €2 for students. The first session free so go and give them a try. The season is from the end of January until the end of May, then from mid September until early December. On an almost monthly basis there is a tournament, either played here in Manilva, or at Laude School, in San Pedro which gives them match practice. Los tres manilveños se han proclamado campeones de la Copa de Andalucía de escalada en bloque tras la celebración de la tercera y última prueba en el rocódromo Rock and Wall de Sevilla. Los tres deportistas manilveños llegaban a esta decisiva cita con muchas opciones ya que lideraban sus respectivas categorías. De esta forma, la Escuela municipal de Manilva ha dominado la modalidad del bloque tras conseguir los títulos del campeonato y copa en las categorías benjamín, cadete y veterano. En benjamines Juan Infante se impuso en esta prueba y su compañero Rodrigo Ruiz ha sido segundo y subcampeón de
Copa. Además, Javier Román finalizó en la cuarta posición. En la categoría alevín hay que destacar el segundo puesto de Mar Carreño en Sevilla. En cadetes, primera posición para Aarón Sabio que suma su tercer título de la temporada. Y
en veteranos, Rogelio Pascual subía a lo más alto del podio, logrando su décimo torneo autonómico. Desde el ayuntamiento de Manilva felicitan una vez más a la Escuela municipal de Escalada por estos increíbles resultados.

The three manilveños have been proclaimed champions in the Andalucian Climbing Cup following the celebration of the third and last trial at Seville’s Rock and Wall. The three Manilva athletes came to this decisive trial with many options as they all led their respective categories. In this way, the Manilva Municipal Climbing has dominated the competition after getting the titles for the championship and cup in the categories Benjamín, Cadet and Veteran. In the benjamines category Juan Infante prevailed in this trial and his teammate Rodrigo Ruiz was second and runner-up in the Cup. In addition, Javier Román finished in fourth place.
In the category alevín it is necessary to praise the second position of Mar Carreño in Seville. In cadets, first position for Aaron Sage who adds his third title of the season. And in veterans, Rogelio Pascual climbed to the top of the podium, achieving his tenth regional tournament win.
