Editorial Nunca llueve, ¡pero cuando llueve diluvia! Quienquiera que acuñó esa frase nunca supo lo apropiada que era, ciertamente no cuando recordamos los eventos del último mes.

Todo comenzó muy positivamente con la llegada del nuevo puente peatonal que cruza el Río Manilva y finalmente proporciona una conexión permanente para los paseos marítimos de Sabinillas y Casares Costa.

La entrega e instalación fue muy entretenida, con un espectáculo de grandes maniobras por parte del conductor del camión que tuvo que guiar su carga de 32 metros a través del ajustado acceso de Marina de Casares, seguido por la colocación del puente sobre el río. El puente ofrece un enlace vital al ambicioso proyecto del paseo litoral cuyo objetivo es proporcionar un paseo peatonal continuo desde Manilva a Nerja, unos 180 kms.

Luego llegó el acto final de la saga política que ha vivido el Ayuntamiento de Manilva, con la caída del pacto entre PSOE/IU tras una moción de censura para derrocar al alcalde del PSOE Diego José Jiménez y la elección de Mario Jiménez de Compromiso como nuevo alcalde, tras firmar un pacto de coalición para gobernar junto a IU, que esperamos que devuelva el impulso al desarrollo del municipio.

Este nuevo gobierno fue puesto a prueba cuando Manilva sufrió lluvias torrenciales de récord, con la caída de unos 200 litros de lluvia por metro cuadrado en el municipio en solo 72 horas.

La Costa del Sol sufrió inundaciones que no se han visto desde hace décadas, y numerosos municipios como Manilva, Estepona y Marbella serán declarados zonas catastróficas.

A pesar de la trágica pérdida de una vida y los cuantiosos daños a negocios y hogares, fue alentador ver la reacción de la comunidad local, que agrupó sus recursos para ayudar a los más afectados, y mucha gente ha comentado positivamente sobre la velocidad con la que las autoridades locales respondieron a la multitud de problemas, que fueron desde carreteras bloqueadas, árboles y muros caídos, e incluso encontraron tiempo para limpiar las toneladas de lodo que cayeron de las colinas colindantes.

Esperamos que esto sea todo por este año y podamos disfrutar tranquilamente de las últimas semanas del 2016 en paz y tranquilidad relativas.

Así pues, solo me queda desearos una Feliz Navidad y un Próspero Año Nuevo. ¡Nos vemos en 2017!

Well it never rains but it pours! Whoever coined that phrase never knew just how appropriate it was, certainly not when looking back at the events of the last month or so.

It all began very positively with the arrival of the new pedestrian bridge to span the Rio Manilva and finally provide a permanent connection for the promenades in Sabinillas and Casares Costa.

The delivery and installation was entertaining in its own right, with a great display of manoeuvring by the truck driver who had to thread his 32 metre load through the tight access of Marina de Casares followed by a dramaless lift into place across the river. The bridge has provided yet another vital link on the ambitious coastal promenade which aims to provide a continuous walk way from Manilva to Nerja, some 180 kms.

Then came the final act in the political fallout from the collapse of the PSOE/IU pact in Manilva, with a vote of no confidence in the leadership of PSOE mayor Diego Jose Quiros and the election of Mario Jimenez from Compromiso who had just struck a deal to govern alongside the IU, and hopefully restore some momentum to the municipality’s development.

This new government was soon put to the test as Manilva bore the brunt of the record breaking deluge which saw some eleven inches of rain dumped on the municipality in just 72 hours.

The Costa del Sol experienced flooding on a scale not seen for decades, with a number of towns, including Manilva, Estepona, and Marbella, being declared disaster areas.

Despite the tragic loss of life and damage to businesses and homes, it was heartening to see the reaction of the local community which pooled its resources to help those worst affected, and many people have commented on the speed at which the local authorities responded to the multitude of problems ranging from blocked roads, to fallen trees and masonry, and have even find time to clear away most of the tons of mud and silt washed down from the surrounding hills.

Well hopefully that’s enough excitement for this year and we can all enjoy the last few weeks of the year in relative peace and quiet.

So that just leaves me to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and see you all again in 2017.

DIVORCIO EN ESPAÑA DE CIUDADANOS EXTRANJEROS Si usted está pasando por una crisis matrimonial debe saber que de la misma forma que una pareja de extranjeros puede contraer matrimonio en España, también puede divorciarse ya que los tribunales españoles son competentes para conocer de los procedimientos de divorcio entre extranjeros o cuando uno de los cónyuges es extranjero.

Y esta competencia de los tribunales Españoles viene dada por las normas de Derecho Comunitario, que tienen una aplicación preferente frente al Derecho Interno Español.

En concreto, el Reglamento nº 2201/2003 del Consejo de 27 de noviembre de 2003 relativo a competencia, reconocimiento y ejecución de resoluciones judiciales en materia matrimonial y de responsabilidad parental, establece el foro o lugar donde se puede interponer la demanda de divorcio conforme más convenga a nuestros intereses: La

• En caso de demanda conjunta, ante el Tribunal del lugar de residencia habitual del demandante si ha residido allí un año antes de la interposición de la demanda, o bien ante el Tribunal de residencia

habitual de uno de los cónyuges.

• Ante el Tribunal del lugar de nacionalidad común de los cónyuges.

Como podemos observar, si los cónyuges tienen nacionalidad común, son competentes tanto los Tribunales del Estado de su residencia habitual como los Tribunales del Estado de su nacionalidad.

Por ejemplo, en caso de una pareja de nacionalidad británica casada en Reino Unido y residentes habituales en España, podrán interponer la demanda de divorcio en cualquiera de los dos Países.

Una vez obtenida la Sentencia de Divorcio, ésta será reconocida en los demás estados miembros de la Unión Europea sin necesidad de procedimiento alguno.

Tan sólo es suficiente con presentar una copia auténtica de la resolución judicial en el registro Civil correspondiente para que puedan surgir sus efectos.

En caso de que la resolución se haya dictado por un Tribunal de un país no miembro de la UE, habrá que atender a lo establecido en los convenios bilaterales que hayan firmado ambos países.

If you are going through a marital crisis you should be aware that in the same way that it`s possible for a foreign couple to get married in Spain, it is also possible to get divorced.

Spanish courts are able to process a divorce for foreign couples or in the case where one spouse is foreign. This capacity was given to the Spanish Courts by the rules of the Community Rights, which can be applied in preference to the Internal Spanish Rights. In actual fact governed by Regulation No. 2201 / 2003 of the Council of 27 of November of 2003 relative to the, competence, recognition and execution of judicial resolutions in marital matters and parental issues.

Also relative to establishing a place or forum where you can file for divorce that suits the interests of the claimants: The Court in the area of the habitual residence of the spouses.

•

Before the court in the place which was the last common residence of the spouses, provided that one of the spouses still resides there.

•

Before the Court in the place of habitual residence of the defendant

•

In the case of a joint demand, before the Court of the place of residence of the claimant, if they have lived there for a minimum of one year before the filing of the demand, or before the Court in the place of habitual residence of one of the spouses.

•

-Before the Court of the place of the common nationality of the spouses

As you can see from the above, the Courts of the place of habitual residence, or the Courts of the place of the spouses’ nationality, are both equally competent to process a divorce.

For example, in the case of a British couple married in the United Kingdom but with their habitual residence in Spain, they would be able to file a divorce petition in either of the two countries.

Once the divorce decree has been obtained, it should be accepted and recognized in all of the other Member States in the European Union without the need for any further procedures. It should be sufficient to present a copy of the Court Ruling in the corresponding Civil Register for it to be accepted.

If the resolution was issued by a Court from a country that is not a member of the EU then the provisions of any bilateral agreements that have been signed between both countries would have to be met before acceptance of the document.

El equipo de gobierno demanda una oficina del Patronato del Recaudación en Casares Ayer se reunieron el acalde y el concejal de Hacienda con el vicepresidente de Diputación y el gerente de Patronato en Málaga. Un encuentro en el que acordaron los pasos a seguir para la contratación de una persona que prestará servicio en los tres núcleos del municipio.

Con la apertura de una oficina de Patronato de Recaudación en Casares se intenta descongestionar al departamento de Renta del Ayuntamiento que actualmente se encuentra saturado pues a las funciones propias deben sumarse también las relacionadas con los impuestos cedidos al ente provincial, atendiendo a los vecinos para evitar que tengan que trasladarse a la oficina que Patronato tiene en Estepona, que es la que corresponde a nuestro municipio.

En la reunión de ayer del alcalde, Pepe Carrasco, y el concejal de Hacienda, Guzmán Ahumada, con el vicepresidente de Diputación, Francisco Salado, y en gerente de Patronato de Recaudación Provincial, Luis Díaz, convinieron en cubrir la demanda del Ayuntamiento de Casares, para lo que se acordó la firma de un convenio entre los dos entes en

el que se establecerá la financiación por parte del ente provincial del personal de atención al público.

Esta nueva oficina de Patronato de Recaudación sería itinerante, prestando servicios en los tres núcleos del municipio, lo que supondría un importante refuerzo sobre todo en la Tenencia de Alcaldía de Casares Costa durante el verano, cuando muchos propietarios aprovechan para realizar sus gestiones.

Y además, aliviaría la carga de trabajo del departamento de Municipal de Renta al encargarse de todas las gestiones relacionadas con los impuestos municipales cuya recaudación le tiene cedida el Ayuntamiento, como el Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles y el de Vehículos, realizando cartas de pago, fraccionamiento, reclamaciones y resolviendo las dudas al respecto. Unos trámites que actualmente realiza la cada vez más menguada plantilla municipal para evitar que los vecinos del municipio tengan que trasladarse a la Oficina de Patronato de Recaudación de Estepona que es a la que está adscrita Casares.

Casares constará próximamente con dos pistas de padel en el Polideportivo de la Huertezuela Esta semana han dado comienzo los trabajos de construcción de dos nuevas pistas de padel en la Huertezuela. Unos trabajos que forman parte del proyecto de ampliación del Complejo Deportivo local cuyo diseño ha salido de la ciudadanía a través de las reuniones del Consejo Local de Deportes.

El concejal de Deportes, Nicolás Morales, informa que además de la dos pistas de padel, la primera fase de este proyecto se completa con el acondicionamiento del entorno y la preinstalación eléctrica de todo el complejo.

Las obras se ejecutan con un presupuesto de 155.478 euros (al haber sido adjudicada con una baja que supera los 30.000 euros) y tiene un plazo de ejecución de dos meses.

El proyecto de desarrollo del Complejo Deportivo de La Huertezuela está financiado íntegramente por el Ayuntamiento de Casares.

Tras esta fase, desde la Concejalía de Deportes se proyecta la construcción de nuevos vestuarios al lado izquierdo de las gradas, que incluye una zona de bar con

terraza en la planta superior. Y en una tercera fase se demolerá el edificio que acoge actualmente los vestuarios en cuyo lugar se va a ubicar una pista multiusos, para tenis. baloncesto y otros deportes.

El complejo deportivo se completará con un circuito para ciclismo, atletismo y senderismo que rodeará todo el recinto, un rocódromo y una pista de skate.

The local authority in Casares demands a Revenue Collection Office The Mayor of Casares and his Councillor for Finance recently met with the vice president of the Malaga Provincial government and the head of the Malaga’s revenue collection service. The meeting was called to agree to the steps needed to provide a dedicated office and staff to handle the collection of provincial taxes in the municipality’s three population centres.

The aim is relieve the congestion in the Town Hall’s finance office which is currently having to provide this facility as well as handling its own day-to-day business, and so that residents don’t have to travel to their

designated office which is in Estepona.

The Provincial government have agreed to fund a ‘mobile’ service which will set up on given days and times in offices in Casares, Casares Costa and Secadero. This is particularly important for Casares Costa in the summer when holiday home owners can organise payments whilst in residence.

The office will also be able to take charge of many of the local taxes such as property taxes, vehicle road tax, etc., and to process stage payments, renewals, and any queries regarding such taxes.

Casares renews its Michelin star

Casares está de enhorabuena, pues se ha renovado la estrella Michelín del restaurante Kabuki Raw, lo que supone un importante impulso para el sector turístico en el municipio.

Desde el Ayuntamiento de Casares, se ha trasladado una felicitación al equipo que hace posible que se conserve esa estrella tan destacada en el ámbito gastronómico.

El cocinero, que realiza una mezcla de cocina japonesa y mediterránea, ha logrado renovar este galardón y aspira a conseguir una segunda estrella. Luis Olarra ha agradecido el trabajo de su equipo y ha asegurado que ellos también son los responsables de la obtención de este galardón.

Casares restaurant Kabuki Raw is celebrating the award of a Michelin Star for the second year running.

The restaurant’s chef, Luis Olarra, has put the achievement down to the work of his team, assuring them that it is as much theirs as his, and that his aim is to add a further star to this accolade.

Kabuki Raw is situated at 5-star Finca Cortesin Hotel, Golf Club and Spa, and serves a blend of Japanese and Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant is one of seven restaurants in Spain operated by the Kabuki Group.

Radio Casares y el Banco de Alimentos “Desván Solidario”, Hallan diez buitres muertos en inician por segundo año consecutivo, un Maratón Solidario el paraje de Charcones La intención es recoger la máxima cantidad de alimentos no perecederos y productos navideños para ayudar a que las familias más necesitadas y afectadas por la crisis y otros problemas, puedan disfrutar de unas Navidades como las del resto de vecinos y vecinas.

Para esta iniciativa, el Banco de Alimentos se ha puesto en contacto con distintas asociaciones, comercios, bares y empresas, además de particulares, con la intención de que aporten lo que puedan para esta causa, tal y como ha explicado Paola López, coordinadora del “Desván Solidario”.

Ten vultures die as a result of collisions with power lines Local residents in the Charcones area of Casares have reported at least ten vultures died last month as the result of collisions with electric pylons. As a result the Town Council have re-issued a report to the power company Endesa and to the Junta de Andalucia demanding

that adaptations be made to the electrical installations to avoid such deaths in the future.

Casares has a high concentration of pylons and power lines which poses a threat to the important population of vultures which inhabit the local environment.

En nuestra sede hemos mantenidos clases de Español e Inglés dos veces por semana, talleres de pintura y manualidades. Mensualmente una Noche de Concursos y Una Noche de Película, también contamos con una biblioteca de libros y DVD que están al servicio de nuestros asociados.

Mantenemos unos equipos muy activos de Petanca y Golf. Las excursiones de este año han sido

a Nerja, Antequera, San Lucar de Barrameda y Cartama.

En el apartado culinario se ha establecido como tradición nuestra salida mensual a visitar un restaurante de la zona y en la sede hemos celebrado un almuerzo de San Valentín y dos meriendas con música en directo en las tres actividades que ha tenido muy buena acogida en los grupos de todas las edades. Como siempre en Junio celebramos nuestra cena de S. Juan en la playa con la ayuda del Ayuntamiento y en

colaboración con sus actividades.

Terminamos las actividades de 2016 con un almuerzo de Navidad.

Actualmente no podemos celebrar comidas en la sede de la Asociación , no obstante hemos buscado un local donde celebrar la fiesta de nuestro décimo aniversario.

Again this year they had a most enjoyable evening at the San Juan “Dinner Party” on the beach

by kind help from the Casares Ayuntamiento and in colaboration with its activities.

The social year finishes with a Gala Christmas Lunch date. They are unable now to have in-house catering therefore to celebrate their 10th anniversary party a surprise venue has been chosen.

Casares will soon have two paddle courts at the la Huertezuela sports centre This week work has started on the construction of two new paddle courts in Huertezuela. Works that are part of the project to expand the local Sports Complex the design of which was a collaborative project between local residents and Casares Sports Council.

Councilor for Sports, Nicolás Morales, reported that in addition to the two paddle courts, the first

phase of this project includes groundworks and the electrical preinstallation of the entire complex.

The project has a budget of 155,478 euros and is expected to be complete in two month.

The next phase includes the construction of new changing rooms on the left side of the stands, which includes a bar area with terrace on the top floor. And

in a third phase, the building that currently houses the changing rooms will be demolished, and a multi-purpose tennis court will be located in its place.

The sports complex will be completed with a circuit for cycling, athletics and trekking that will surround the whole enclosure, a climbing wall and a skate track.

Una entrevista con el nuevo alcalde de Manilva, Mario Jiménez El 27 de noviembre del 2016, los cuatro concejales de Izquierda Unida, que hasta ese momento habían estado en coalición con el PSOE como equipo de gobierno, se unieron a la oposición, el partido Compromiso, para presentar una Moción de Censura y expulsar a Diego José Jiménez Quirós como Alcalde.

En un pleno especial de todo el ayuntamiento el 11 de noviembre, con muchos simpatizantes de todos los lados, el líder de cada uno de los cinco partidos que forman el Ayuntamiento de Manilva hablaron sobre el asunto, tras lo cual se realizó una votación abierta. Los concejales de IU, PP, ASM y Compromiso votaron para investir a Mario Jiménez de Compromiso como alcalde, con el voto del PSOE en contra: una mayoría de 12:5. ¿Nos puede contar algo sobre usted, y su carrera política, hasta convertirse en Alcalde de Manilva?.

Catorce años de mi vida los he destinado a ejercer de cargo público. He tenido la satisfacción de dirigir en el Ayuntamiento de Manilva delegaciones tan importantes como Infraestructura y Obras, Parques y Jardines, Limpieza, Juventud y Deportes. También he dirigido la oficina técnica en la Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental. Considero que era el momento de tomar esta gran responsabilidad para llevar a Manilva donde se merece. ¿Cuál ha sido su primera prioridad desde su investidura como Alcalde de Manilva?

La estabilidad municipal es una base fundamental para a partir de ahí destinar proyectos, infraestructuras y servicios destinados a nuestros vecinos. También creo que un Ayuntamiento debe ser aperturista y que entre todos logremos tener el mejor de los futuros para la población

y nuestros jóvenes. El turismo, como motor económica del municipio. Potenciar el Puerto de la Duquesa para que sea un gran referente. La limpieza, la seguridad y la sanidad entran dentro de nuestras prioridades. Y como no podía ser de otra manera, que a los desempleados se les abran puertas, se contribuya a su formación y que integren las bolsas de trabajo. ¿Cuál cree que será el mayor desafío en los próximos meses?.

Desgraciadamente el temporal de lluvia que ha azotado nuestro pueblo ha supuesto unos siete millones de euros en pérdidas. Nuestras playas, arroyos, desperfectos en infraestructuras y viviendas y negocios particulares será una de nuestras prioridades en estos momentos. Una vez declarada Manilva como zona catastrófica, exigiremos a todos los organismos que lleguen las ayudas cuando antes a la vez que seguimos trabajando con operarios municipales para volver a la normalidad y que vías, accesos y servicios estén en perfectas condiciones. ¿Qué proyectos e iniciativas pueden esperar los habitantes de Manilva?

Proyectos e ideas tenemos muchas. Pronto tendremos la pasarela del lidl para comodidad de los vecinos. La plaza Ginebra, que otorgará a Sabinillas de una mejor organización. El Castillo y su yacimiento. El sendero litoral conectará a Manilva con la Costa y como proyecto emblemático el sendero peatonal Manilva -Sabinillas.

En definitiva, que nuestros vecinos se sientan orgullosos del privilegiado lugar donde vivimos y que mis puertas están abiertas para oír propuestas que mejoren lo que tenemos.

¿Qué mensaje le gustaría transmitir a las personas de Manilva?

Como manilveño es un gran orgullo ser el alcalde de mi pueblo. En primer lugar quiero dar las gracias a mis vecinos por el apoyo que estamos teniendo y la confianza que recibimos. Por otro lado, quiero hacerles partícipe de nuestra manera de entender la política que no es otra que poner todo nuestro esfuerzo en mantener, mejorar y crear nuevas infraestructuras y servicios que aumenten la calidad de vida de la ciudadanía y que nuestros visitantes y turistas se sientan como en casa. Mi obsesión es llevar a Manilva donde se merece que no es otro lugar que una referencia turística en la Costa del Sol.

An interview with Manilva’s new Mayor, Mario Jiménez On 27 November 2016, the four councillors from Izquierda Unida, who until that point had been in coalition with the PSOE as the governing team, joined forces with the opposition Compromiso party to present a Mocion de Censura (basically a vote of no confidence) to oust Diego José Jiménez Quirós as Mayor.

At a special meeting of the full council on Friday 11 November, with many supporters from all sides in attendance, the head of each of the five parties that comprise the Manilva Town Council spoke on the subject, after which there was an open vote, with councillors from IU, PP, ASM, and Compromiso voting to install Compromiso’s Mario Jimenez as Mayor, with PSOE voting against: A majority of 12:5.

Can you tell us a bit about you, and your political career, up to becoming Mayor of Manilva?

I have dedicated 14 years of my life to the public service.

I have been proud to manage important delegations in the Manilva Council, such as Public Works and Infrastructure, Parks and Gardens, Cleaning, Youth and Sports. I have also managed the technical office in the Macrocomunity of Municipalities of Costa del Sol. I believe it was the right time to assume this great responsibility to take Manilva where it deserves.

What was your priority since your investiture as Mayor of Manilva?

The municipal stability is a fundamental base from which to allocate projects, infrastructures and services targeted for our neighbours. I also believe that a Council must be open, so between all of us we manage to have the best future for the population. Tourism, as economic engine for the town.

To boost Puerto de la Duquesa so it becomes a landmark.

The cleaning, security and healthcare are our priorities. And, as it couldn´t be any other way, we need to open the doors to the unemployed, helping them by providing them training and integration in job pools.

What do you think is the biggest challenge for the next few months?

Unfortunately, the heavy rains that our town has suffered have led to about seven millon euros in losses. Our beaches, streams, the damage to infrastructure, homes and busi-

ness will be one of our priorities right now. Once they declare Manilva as a Disaster Area, we will demand from the different bodies the assistance we need, while we are working with the municipal workers to return to normality, so roads, access and services are in perfect condition.

What projects and initiatives can the people of Manilva expect?

We do have many projects and ideas. Soon we will have the pedestrian bridge by Lidl, for our resident’s convenience.

The refurbishment of Plaza Ginebra. The Castle and its archaeological site. The coastal path will connect Manilva with the coast, and as a main project, the pedestrian path Manilva-Sabinillas.

Basically we want our residents to be proud of where they live. My door is always open to listen to suggestions and ideas to improve what we already have.

What message would you like to send to the people of Manilva?

As a “manilveño”, I am proud to be the Mayor of my town.

First, I want to thank my neighbours for the support we are getting, and the trust we receive. On the other hand, I want to let them know that our way to understanding politics is to do our best to maintain, improve and create new infrastructure and services to boost the quality of life of our people, and that of our visitors and tourists so that they feel at home.

My passion is to take Manilva to where it deserves to be, to make it a tourist reference on the Costa del Sol.

Además de Concejal de Comercio, Residentes Extranjeros y Consumo, ahora también eres Concejal de Medioambiente. ¿Cómo vas a gestionar este trabajo extra?

Como Concejal de Residentes Extranjeros y el representante británico del gobierno local, siempre he tenido que tratar con casi todos los departamentos, ya sea en asuntos de planificación, perros perdidos, corrimientos de tierra, problemas de recogidas de basuras, baches en las carreteras, iluminación pública, accesos públicos, etc., y soy la persona a la que muchos extranjeros acuden primero.

El alcalde de Manilva, Mario Jiménez, se reunía en el fin de semana con su Equipo de Gobierno para estructurar el Ayuntamiento según concejalías y tenencias de alcaldía.

Según manifestó el primer edil manilveño: "el objetivo no es otro que dar un buen servicio al ciudadano, por lo tanto, hemos estudiado concienzudamente todas las posibilidades para que las distintas concejalías tengan un rendimiento pleno", finalizó.

Desde el cambio en la coalición de gobierno, ¿cuáles son tus prioridades?

Como siempre, mi prioridad es proporcionar una calidad de servicio en continua mejora a los residentes locales, sea cual sea su nacionalidad en todos los departamentos del Ayuntamiento. Al ser un pueblo cuyo principal ingreso es el sector del turismo, una de las áreas que siempre necesita mejorar es la información general y el servicio al cliente. Ésta es mi misión principal en este momento, y para ello vamos a lanzar un proyecto llamado Planificación Estratégica para Manilva, para crear una marca para el municipio.

Esto será organizado por profesionales del sector que ofrecerán formación y directrices sobre todo a aquellos departamentos y personal que tienen contacto directo con el público, con el objetivo de mejorar las comunicaciones y procedimientos para los residentes locales. Yo mismo y mi equipo estamos trabajando en algunos eventos muy interesantes para el año que viene, siendo uno de ellos un festival de cine, y también estamos intentando revivir el popular Festival Internacional que no se ha celebrado desde el 2011. Éste es un evento importante para promover la comprensión y la integración entre los españoles y las comunidades extranjeras. El Ayuntamiento en su conjunto va a seguir luchando para conseguir un mejor servicio médico, en concreto una cobertura de urgencias de 24 horas que nunca hemos tenido en Manilva. Recientemente hemos contratado un servicio de ambulancia totalmente equipado, pero seguimos exigiendo a la Junta de Andalucía que cumpla con su responsabilidad de proporcionar un servicio médico de urgencias 24 horas.

Existen muchos proyectos de infraestructuras que podremos explicar con más detalle en el futuro cercano. Seguimos animando a los residentes a que se registren en el padrón, ya que necesitamos tener entre 23 y 24 mil personas en el registro, un número que sabemos que reside en la zona. Una vez que lleguemos a este número, podremos presionar al Gobierno Central para que nos proporcionen una comisaría de Policía Nacional, que nos dará una fuerza local extra de entre 20 a 30 agentes de policía especializados, que estarán disponibles 24 horas al día. El Departamento del Consumidor cada vez está más reforzado y proporciona un servicio gratuito a los consumidores para dar respuesta a sus problemas y quejas con negocios y proveedores de servicio.

Recientemente has comenzado a forjar vínculos más cercanos con nuestros

vecinos de Casares. ¿Es esto algo que vas a continuar?

Por supuesto, aunque no es tan fácil como se pensaría ya que cada pueblo tiene sus idiosincrasias, y trabajar juntos no es siempre fácil, pero quien quiere puede, y mi colega del Ayuntamiento de Casares, Antonia Pineda, siempre está abierta a posibles colaboraciones ya que mucho del electorado de Casares utiliza Sabinillas como su centro comercial local

Por último, sobre lo acontecido recientemente en el Ayuntamiento. ¿Cuál es tu análisis de los eventos que llevaron a la rotura del pacto PSOE/IU?

Brevemente, la relación entre los socios de gobierno comenzó a estropearse no mucho después de formarse la coalición en el verano del 2015, en gran parte debido a la falta de confianza que nos llevó a sentir que en vez de ser socios de gobierno estábamos en la oposición. Políticamente, nos estaban sofocando y nuestras propuestas y promesas electorales que queríamos cumplir se venían bloqueadas. Sentíamos que el pueblo estaba estancado en muchas áreas. Se alcanzó el punto crítico hace algo más de un mes, cuando el entonces Alcalde, Diego José Jiménez, retiró áreas de responsabilidad tanto de mi como de mis colegas de IU, colocándonos esencialmente en oposición. Entonces intentó gobernar en minoría o formar una coalición con Compromiso Manilva. Para impedir esto, nosotros mismos intentamos formar coalición con Compromiso Manilva, y negociamos con otros líderes de los partidos de la oposición, una situación que jamás nos habríamos imaginado o deseado. Tuvimos éxito y presentamos una moción de censura, y volvemos al gobierno junto con Compromiso Manilva. Las recientes inundaciones que sucedieron solo unos días después de tomar el control del Ayuntamiento han puesto a prueba esta unión, y hemos descubierto que formamos un gran equipo. Para usar un término común y uno usado recientemente por el nuevo Alcalde Mario Jiménez, hay más cosas que nos unen que las que nos dividen.

Los principales beneficiarios de este nuevo pacto son los residentes de nuestro municipio y ahora, por primera vez desde que estoy en el gobierno local, me siento muy confiado de que IU podrá cumplir casi todas, si no todas, sus promesas electorales.

Interview with Dean Tyler Shelton As well as Commerce, Foreign Residents, and Consumers, you are now also councillor for the Environment. How will you handle this increase in workload?

As the Councillor for Foreign Residents, and the English

speaking representative of the local government I have always had to deal with pretty much all the departments, whether it be planning issues, lost dogs, landslides, rubbish collection problems, potholes on roads, street lighting, public access, you name it and I’m the person many of the foreign residents approach first.

THE RESIDENT Noviembre - November 2016 Since the change in the government coalition, what are your priorities moving forward?

As always my priority is to provide a constantly improving quality of service to the local residents, whatever their nationality, across all of the twenty plus departments in the Council. Being a town that earns most of its income from the tourism sector, whether short term or residential, one of the areas that lets down not just this council but many others is general information and customer service. This my primary focus at the moment, and to this end we are looking to launch a project entitled Strategic Financial Planning for Manilva and creating a brand for the municipality. This will organised by industry professionals which will provide training and guidance, particularly for those departments and personnel that have direct contact with the public with the aim of improving communications and procedures for local residents.

Myself and my team are working on some exciting events for next year, one being a film festival for later in the year, and we are also reviving the popular International Festival which hasn’t been celebrated here since 2011. This is an important event in fostering understanding and integration between the Spanish and foreign communities.

The council as a whole is continuing to push hard for a better medical service, particular 24 hour cover which we’ve never enjoyed in Manilva. We have recently contracted a fully equipped and first class ambulance service, but are pressing the Junta de Andalucia to honour their responsibility to provide that 24 hour medical service.

There are a lot of infrastructure projects which we will be able to announce more about in the near future.

We continue to push for residents to register on the Padron, as we desperately need to get 23 to 24 thousand people on the register, a number which we know live in the area as we can calculate it from the amount of refuse collected. Once we reach this number we can pressure central government to provide us with a National Police station, which would give us a force of 20 to 30 police officers, who are on hand 24 hours a day.

The Consumer Department goes from strength to strength and provides a free service for consumers to address issues they have with businesses and service providers.

You have recently begun to forge closer links with our neighbours in Casares, is this something you are going to continue?

Absolutely, although it’s not as easy as you would expect as each town has its own idiosyncrasies, and working together is not always straight forward, but there is a will and my opposite number on the Council in Casares, Antonia Pineda, is always open to possible collaborations as she is aware that many of her constituents use Sabinillas as their local commercial centre.

So to the elephant in the room. What is your analysis of the events leading to the collapse of the PSOE/IU coalition?

Briefly, the relationship between the coalition partners began to sour not long after it was formed in the summer of 2015, much of it due to a lack of trust which festered up to a point where we were in government but felt like we were in opposition. Politically we were being stifled, and proposals that we wanted to progress were being blocked and we felt that the town was stagnating in many areas.

It all came to a head just over a month ago when the Mayor, Diego Jose Jimenez, withdrew the areas of responsibility from myself and my IU colleagues, essentially putting us into opposition. He then proceeded to form a coalition with Compromiso Manilva.

To thwart this we found ourselves seeking a pact with Compromiso Manilva ourselves, a situation we could never have envisaged a year ago, but we were successful and following a vote of no confidence we are back in government alongside Compromiso.

The recent storms and subsequent flooding has put this union to test and we have found that we have come together as a team beyond all expectations.

Los benjamines de la EMMM interpretarán en el auditorio de Civima unas piezas navideñas acompañados de sus profesores. El acto estará acompañado por la visita de los reyes magos de Oriente y otras muchas sorpresas.

Día 20: Navidad Flamenca en la Iglesia de Sabinillas a las 18:30h.

El próximo día 20 de diciembre a partir de las 18:30 horas tendrá lugar en la Iglesia de Sabinillas, una noche flamenca. Esta actividad pertenece al programa de actividades navideñas diseñado por la Delegación de Cultura del Excmo. Ayuntamiento de Manilva.

En este evento participarán las alumnas de la escuela

municipal de baile, que dirige Ana Guerrero. Ellas interpretarán piezas navideñas flamencas acompañadas de música en directo y con un escenario típico navideño montado para la ocasión.

Día 21: Concierto Coral de Villancicos. Iglesia de Manilva a las 20:00h.

El día 21 la Iglesia de Manilva acogerá las voces de los más pequeños de la Escuela Municipal de Música de Manilva. La Coral Juvenil realizará un concierto de piezas escogidas navideñas para esta ocasión tan particular.

El concierto también estará lleno de sorpresas para los asistentes y participantes. También participarán en este concierto los coros municipales que interpretarán villancicos clásicos en el mismo escenario.

Día 22: Gala XX aniversario de la Banda Municipal de Música. Pabellón de Usos Múltiples de Manilva. 20.00h Como antesala de las fiestas navideñas, el Pabellón de Usos Múltiples de Manilva albergará el tradicional concierto de Navidad de la Banda de Música, que este año constituirá el hilo conductor de la gala de celebración de su XX aniversario. Se interpretará un repertorio representativo de la evolución musical de esta agrupación, durante sus veinte años de vida, y se celebrará un homenaje de reconocimiento a los músicos que la integran actualmente.

ENERO Día 4: Entrega de Cartas a SS.MM los Reyes Magos.

El próximo día 4 de Enero tendrá lugar en las diferentes Iglesias del Municipio la entrega de las cartas a SS.MM los Reyes Magos de Oriente. Todos los que lo deseen podrán hacer entrega de su carta a su rey favorito. Todos los niños recibirán caramelos como obsequio.

Thursday 22: Gala celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Manilva Town Band at the multi use pavilion in Manilva from 8 pm.

As a prelude to the Christmas festivities, the pavilion next to the football pitch in Manilva will be the venue for the traditional Christmas concert given by the Manilva Town Band, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary.

The programme will feature a musical journey of the band’s evolution during the past two decades.

Tuesday 20: Flamenco Christmas at the church in Sabinillas from 6.30 pm The Church in Sabinillas will be the setting for the annual flamenco Christmas with live music and performances by the Ana Guerrero municipal dance school. The church and its surroundings will be staged with a traditional nativity scene.

Wednesday 21: Carol Concert in the Santa Ana church in Manilva from 8 pm Manilva’s parish church will host a carol concerts with performances by students from the Municipal School of Music as well as the municipal choirs singing classic carols

January Wednesday 4: Collection of the children’s cards to the Three Kings On this day their majesties, the Three Kings will visit children across the municipality, when they will receive the children’s letters. All the children will receive sweets from the kings.

El Ayuntamiento presenta la nueva ambulancia para las urgencias El Ayuntamiento de Manilva, a través de la delegación de Salud, dirigida por Antonio Barragán, ha presentado la nueva ambulancia que mejorará el servicio de urgencias de la localidad.

El alcalde de Manilva, Mario Jiménez, el citado responsable de Salud y los ediles Paqui López y Agustín Vargas han comprobado in situ la composición interior de

esta herramienta fundamental para los profesionales.

Este nuevo vehículo, perfectamente equipado con todo el material necesario para atender las urgencias ya está puesto en funcionamiento con todos los permisos y exigencias en algo tan vital como atender a todas esas personas que lo necesitan.

Barragán se mostraba muy satis-

fecho por poder refrendar uno de los acuerdos programáticos y hacerlo una realidad a su vez que lamentaba el que se haya utilizado algo tan delicado como la salud de los vecinos para atacar a la delegación que dirige.

En sus propias palabras: "como vecinos que somos de este pueblo, hoy es un día importante para todos porque, aunque queda mucho por hacer, es un paso más para mejorar el servicio de sanitario", apuntó.

Por su parte, el alcalde de Manilva, Mario Jiménez también destacó la posibilidad de contar con esta nueva ambulancia siempre siendo consciente que desde el Ayuntamiento se seguirá trabajando para que el municipio cuente con un mejor servicio sanitario.

Manilva acquires a new ambulance

Manilva Town Hall’s health department, headed by Antonia Barragán’ took delivery of a new ambulance this month, which entered service immediately.

This new vehicle is fully equipped and licensed to attend all emergency situations, and delivers

on one of the local government’s promises to the people of Manilva.

The Mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, stressed the importance of this further step towards improved the provision of health care in the municipality

Cancelación Rastro del Domingo por las inundaciones Desde la Delegación de Comercio del Ayuntamiento de Manilva se informa que debido a los graves daños ocasionados por las fuertes lluvias y la crecida del rio Manilva, que inundó por completo el recinto ferial, se ha decidido por parte de esta Delegación suspender la celebración del Rastro del Domingo los próximos días 11 y 18 de diciembre del presente.

Asimismo se recuerda que los días 25 de diciembre, día de Navidad y 01 de enero, día de año nuevo, tampoco se celebrará el Rastro.

Según indica Dean Tyler Shelton, concejal de la citada delegación, se está trabajando a destajo en recuperar la normalidad en el municipio, pero han sido tantas las indicencias que ha ocasionado el temporal que no

se prevé que el recinto ferial esté operativo hasta pasadas dos o tres semanas.

Por lo que se espera que el Rastro vuelva a celebrarse el próximo domingo día 8 de enero de 2017, siempre y cuando se puedan garantizar las condiciones mínimas de seguridad a los propios vendedores así como a los clientes y visitantes.

Flood damage leads to cancellation of Sunday Market until 2017

Manilva’s Department of Commerce has announced that, due to serious damage to the Manilva Fairground site caused by the torrential rain and the Rio Manilva bursting its banks, there will be no market on Sundays 11 and 18 December.

Also as Christmas Day and New

Year’s Day both fall on Sundays there will also be no market on these two days.

Councillor Dean Shelton, head of the Commerce Department, stated that they are working hard to repair the damage but early indications are that it will not be ready and

safe to use in less than two to three weeks.

Therefore the next Sunday market will be held on 8 January, 2017, when the department can guarantee it will be safe to use by the stallholders and their customers.

Primeros pasos para que el sendero El domingo 18 de diciembre se llevará a cabo el peatonal sea una realidad IX Concurso Del Vino Uno de los acuerdos programáticos de Compromiso Manilva e Izquierda Unida es el proyecto de sendero peatonal y carril bici en la conexión entre los núcleos de Manilva y Sabinillas.

Técnicos de la Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental, encargados de realizar el proyecto, se han personado en Manilva para ver in situ el recorrido y tomar conciencia de sus características.

El alcalde de Manilva, Mario Jiménez y el concejal de Infraestructura y Obras, Antonio Barragán, han explicado a los técnicos mancomunados el modelo de sendero que quieren y la necesidad que hay entre estos dos núcleos de conectarse.

A partir de aquí, comenzarán los mecanismos técnicos y burocráticos para un dando pasos hasta la ejecución del proyecto. Se harán estudios técnicos del firme y su recorrido para plasmarlo en la memoria y a partir de ahí se solicitarán los permisos pertinentes a la Junta de Andalucía y a los organismos supramunicipales.

Ambos responsables municipales tienen mucha ilusión en ver este proyecto plasmado y que sea una realidad para el municipio.

Esta conexión significará el poder realizar este recorrido de forma cómoda, segura, haciendo deporte y también estrechando lazos entres dos núcleos hermanos.

Organizado por la delegación de Agricultura del Ayuntamiento de Manilva y la Fundación de Manilva para el Desarrollo, el próximo domingo 18 de diciembre se llevará a cabo el IX Concurso del Vino de Manilva.

Según comentaba el concejal delegado de la citada área, Diego Urieta, los objetivos de este tradicional Concurso del Vino de Manilva son: la difusión de las excelentes características de nuestra vitivinicultura, perfeccionar los conocimientos de vinificación, promover la comercialización de los vinos locales y promocionar nuestra uva moscatel.

Es importante informar que el Concurso de este año se organizará en DOS GRUPOS o modalidades de participantes: 1º Concursantes Locales y 2º Concursantes en General; en la

primera modalidad sólo podrán inscribirse viticultores que sean propietarios de parcelas de viñedo en Manilva y/o en el Polígono 8 de Casares, además de elaborar los vinos en el citado ámbito territorial.

En la segunda modalidad se

podrán inscribir todos aquellos participantes que acrediten la procedencia manilveña de la uva moscatel o vidueño en la elaboración de los vinos.

Se establecen tres categorías para cada una de las dos modalidades: seco, semi y dulce.

Following the success of last year’s event the second edition of the “La Nochentera” festival will be held at the pavilion next to the football ground in Manilva on Saturday 17 December.

El Ayuntamiento estima en 27 millones de euros los daños causados por el temporal El Ayuntamiento de Estepona informa de que hoy ha remitido a la subdelegación del Gobierno en Málaga un informe detallado de los daños producidos por las lluvias en la ciudad durante el pasado fin de semana. El teniente alcalde del área Sociocultural y Servicios, Blas Ruzafa, ha explicado que, tras realizarse una exhaustiva evaluación de las incidencias que han tenido lugar en edificios públicos (centros educativos, centro de salud), playas, zonas verdes, vías públicas, caminos rurales, fincas o parcelas agrícolas y ganaderas, viviendas, locales, naves industriales y otros bienes de particulares, el Consistorio estima que los daños causados en el municipio alcanzan los 27 millones de euros.

Con el documento que se ha dirigido al Gobierno Central, el Consistorio podrá solicitar ayudas para reparar las incidencias ocasionadas por el fuerte temporal.

Blas Ruzafa ha indicado que, debido a la magnitud de las lluvias torrenciales que se registraron en la ciudad y a la espera de continuar evaluando más daños que se hayan podido producir, los técnicos municipales han elaborado con la mayor celeridad esta primera estimación de los daños causados.

Por otra parte, el teniente alcalde del área Sociocultural y Servicios ha explicado que los servicios operativos del Ayuntamiento han realizado más de medio millar de actuaciones extraordinarias de emergencia tras las fuertes lluvias. Así, se han realizado alrededor de 200 reposiciones en el alumbrado público y más de un centenar de intervenciones para adecuar y recupe-

rar tanto el viario público como los caminos rurales para el tránsito de peatones y vehículos.

Además, se han acometido más de medio centenar de actuaciones en playas, zonas verdes y parques, y más de 40 acciones extraordinarias de limpieza en los centros educativos, edificios públicos y centros de salud.

Por otro lado, la empresa concesionaria del servicio y abastecimiento de agua (Hidralia) ha intervenido en más de medio centenar de puntos de la red tanto para realizar desatoros y otras acciones de ayuda a los vecinos.

Blas Ruzafa ha subrayado que las intervenciones de los servicios operativos continuarán durante los próximos días, especialmente en los caminos rurales y en el litoral. A ese respecto, ha reiterado su agradecimiento al medio millar de operarios municipales que desde el pasado fin de semana han realizado “un enorme esfuerzo” para que la ciudad haya recuperado su normalidad con prontitud.

El responsable municipal ha añadido que el Ayuntamiento está especialmente agradecido al Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos, que realizó 200 salidas con motivo de las lluvias, a los servicios de emergencias y a los distintos Cuerpos y Fuerzas de Seguridad por “el eficiente y coordinado dispositivo de actuación” con el que atendieron a la ciudad. Ruzafa también ha puesto en valor “la serenidad, la colaboración y la responsabilidad de la ciudadanía” ante una situación tan excepcional.

El Ayuntamiento abre una oficina de atención a los afectados por las lluvias El Ayuntamiento de Estepona informa de que va a poner a disposición de los ciudadanos una oficina de atención a los afectados por las lluvias registradas en la ciudad durante las últimas horas, con el objetivo de informar y canalizar las incidencias registradas. En este sentido, solicitará ayudas a administraciones supramunicipales para afrontar los daños producidos.

Este centro de atención ciudadana estará operativo, desde mañana, en la delegación municipal de Participación Ciudadana, ubicada en la plaza Blas Infante.

El Consistorio está trabajando para devolver la normalidad a

la ciudad lo antes posible y al servicio de las necesidades más urgentes del municipio. Para ello, se ha organizado un dispositivo integrado por medio millar de efectivos, que durante los próximos días trabajarán para limpiar, arreglar y atender los desperfectos, y reparar las deficiencias ocasionadas por la lluvia.

Asimismo, se va a realizar un balance de incidencias con un inventario de daños en instalaciones municipales, infraestructuras públicas y caminos rurales.

El alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, ha valorado la coordinación y la labor que están realizando todos los

Cuerpos y Fuerzas de Seguridad y los Servicios de Emergencias en esta situación excepcional, tras activarse a primera hora de esta mañana el Plan Municipal de Emergencias.

Asimismo, ha trasladado sus condolencias por el fallecimiento de una joven como consecuencia de la lluvia registrada en la ciudad y ha agradecido el apoyo e interés que Su Majestad el Rey Don Felipe VI ha mostrado hacia la situación de la ciudad; así como los responsables de administraciones supramunicipales como el Gobierno central, la Junta de Andalucía o Diputación de Málaga, entre otras.

Carrera Solidaria "Ningún Niño Sin Juguete" El Ayuntamiento de Estepona

ha organizado para el próximo viernes, 23 de diciembre de 2016, una carrera solidaria a beneficio de la XXII Campaña de Navidad “Ningún Niño sin Juguete” de la Asociación “Frente Bolillón”, que recoge regalos para garantizar que todos los menores del municipio de familias con falta de recursos reciban regalos durante las fiestas navideñas.

La carrera estará abierta a personas de todas las edades, quienes deberán ir vestidos de Papa Noël. Charity Race “No Child Without a Toy” Estepona’s Social Services Department has organised a charity race to raise funds for this year’s XXII Christmas Campaign “No Child Without A Toy” run by the Frente Bolillon Association which collects gifts guaranteeing that none of Estepona’s children from disadvantaged families goes without a gift this Christmas.

15 países participarán en el encuentro de dulces navideños organizado por el Ayuntamiento y ‘Sabor a Málaga El Ayuntamiento de Estepona y el proyecto ‘Sabor a Málaga’, que promueve la Diputación Provincial de Málaga, han organizado por segundo año el evento gastronómico ‘Dulce Encuentro Navideño’, que contará con la participación de, al menos, 15 países.

La teniente alcalde del área de Fomento, Infraestructuras y Turismo (FIT), Ana Velasco, ha explicado que con esta actividad, que tendrá lugar el próximo jueves en el Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos, se pretende dar a conocer la gastronomía navideña de las diferentes nacionalidades que conviven en la ciudad.

Cada participante dispondrá de tres minutos para explicar la historia del postre o pastel navideño que presenta, así como algunas de las tradiciones que se mantienen en su país de origen con motivo de estas fiestas. Entre los países que se han inscrito hasta ahora se encuentran Estados Unidos, Canadá, Alemania, Chile, Dinamarca, Hungría, Polonia, Venezuela, Perú, Chile o Reino Unido.

La actividad dará comienzo a las 11.00

horas de la mañana. Por otra parte, ‘Sabor a Málaga’ expondrá a los participantes los productos gastronómicos malagueños que son promocionados a través de esta marca y ofrecerá una degustación de vinos de la provincia. El acto estará atendido por los alumnos de la Escuela de Hostelería de Estepona, que se ubica en el Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos.

Velasco ha apuntado que el Ayuntamiento ha vuelto a impulsar esta actividad tras el éxito obtenido el pasado año, en el que participaron más de 80 personas de nacionalidad extranjera. “La presencia de un número importante de residentes extranjeros en cada actividad que organizamos pone de manifiesto la integración de esta comunidad en la ciudad”, ha subrayado la edil.

Por otra parte, la responsable del área FIT ha indicado que este encuentro multicultural se incluye dentro de las actuaciones impulsadas por el Ayuntamiento de Estepona para atender al colectivo de extranjeros, que representa a casi el 30 por ciento de la población residente. “Durante todo el año, la delegación de Residentes

15 nationalities to participate in this year’s Christmas Cakes Fair Estepona’s Foreign Residents Department along with the ‘Sabor a Malaga’ project have organised the second edition of the Christmas Cake Fair on Thursday 15 December from 11 am at the Palacio de Congresos in Estepona.

This year some 15 nationalities have already signed up to present a traditional christmas cake or dessert that is typical of their country. Each person has up to three minutes to explain the history of the cake and their country’s Christmas traditions.

The countries participating include: United States, Canada, Germany, Chile, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Venezuela, Peru, Chile and the United Kingdom.

Sabor a Malaga will also present a wide range of products that are promoted under the ‘Taste of Malaga’ brand and their will

be an opportunity to taste wines from the Province.

The event will also be attended by students from the Town’s School of Gastronomy and Hospitality, which is based in the Palacio.

The Councillor for Tourism and Foreign Residents, Ana Velasco, remarked that last year more than 80 foreign residents took part in the event, and that “the presence of this significant number at the activities organised in the town, showed the integration of the foreign community in Estepona”.

This is just one of a programme of multicultural events arranged throughout the year for this community which represents almost 30% of the resident population.

Christmas in Spain

As November marches on our attention turns to

Christmas and the fun and festivities that go with it.

Whilst Christmas is celebrated widely in Spain the main focus is

on the festival of Los Reyes Magos, or Three Kings which is held

on January 6th, this means that the holiday period is a full

fortnight.

Beginning on Christmas Eve or Noche Buena most Spaniards will spend the first part of the evening with family enjoying a huge feast, often of fish and shellfish, but also just about everything else you can think, after which those who are still mobile will go out after midnight to party or visit friends.

Christmas Day is a fairly quiet day with some children receiving gifts from Santa, whilst others have to wait for the Three Kings to bring their goodies.

You then have about a week to recover before New Year’s Eve, or Nochevieja, which again tends to begin after midnight and following the tradition of the 12 grapes when the chimes of midnight are each accompanied with the eating of a grape. Following this, yes you guessed it, it’s party time until the early hours.

The grand finale for the festive period is Three Kings. A couple of days before the children will have delivered their letters detailing the gifts they would like to receive, and on evening of the 5th January there are huge processions (read mobile riots) through the streets of every village, town and city, during which literally tons of sweets are hurled into the eager crowds.

On the 6th the children traditionally open their presents.

Navidad en España Tras marcharse noviembre, nuestra atención se dirige a la Navidad y a las divertidas festividades que se celebran.

Aunque la Navidad se celebra ampliamente en España, una de las fechas más esperadas es el Día de Reyes, que se celebra el 6 de enero. Esto significa que el periodo vacacional dura dos semanas.

Comenzando en Nochebuena, la mayoría de los españoles pasarán la primera parte de la noche con sus familias disfrutando de un gran banquete, a menudo compuesto por pescado y marisco, aunque también con todo lo que puedas imaginar, y tras la cena, aquellos que aún puedan moverse, salen de fiesta o a visitar a sus amigos.

El Día de Navidad es un día tranquilo, y algunos niños reciben regalos de Papá Noel, mientras que otros esperan a los Reyes Magos para que traigan sus regalos.

Luego tienes una semana para recuperarte antes de Nochevieja, que de nuevo tienda a comenzar tras las 12 de la noche tras la tradición de comerse 12 uvas con las 12 campanadas que anuncian el Año Nuevo. Tras esto, como ya imaginas, es hora de salir de fiesta hasta la madrugada.

La gran final del periodo festivo es el Día de Reyes. Un par de días antes los niños enviarán sus cartas a Sus Majestades pidiendo los regalos que desean, y el 5 de enero por la tarde comienzan las preciosas cabalgatas por las calles de los pueblos y ciudades, durante las cuales se lanzan literalmente toneladas de caramelos a los espectadores.

El día 6 de enero tradicionalmente los niños abren sus regalos.

El Auditorio Felipe VI acogerá la séptima Gala de los Estepona’s Felipe VI Theatre hosts the VII Jugador Doce Awards Gala Premios Jugador Doce El concejal adscrito a la delegación de Deportes, Adrián Trujillo, y el director de la revista 'Jugador Doce', Aitor Banda, han presentado la gala de los VIII Premios ‘Jugador Doce’, que rendirán homenaje a aquellos deportistas, asociaciones, eventos, técnicos y clubes que durante este año han realizado una destacada labor en el ámbito deportivo. Esta gala, que tendrá lugar este jueves en el auditorio Felipe VI, acogerá a más de 600 invitados y a 53 nominados en las distintas categorías.

El edil ha valorado estos premio porque reconoce a deportistas amateurs de diferentes disciplinas deportivas. Además, ha destacado que en esta edición Estepona cuente con el mayor número de nominados, “ya que fue en nuestra localidad donde nació la revista 'Jugador Doce'”, expandiéndose después a otros lugares como Manilva, Benahavís

y San Pedro.

Asimismo, Trujillo ha agradecido la labor que realiza esta publicación en la promoción del deporte base y ha añadido que se ha convertido en una revista de referencia en la zona.

Por su parte, Aitor Banda ha explicado que se entregarán doce premios, de los cuales, nueve son por votación popular a través de la web: www.jugadordoce.es, y

tres son menciones especiales que son otorgadas por la propia revista atendiendo a criterios objetivos.

Además, el director de la revista 'Jugador Doce' ha querido agradecer tanto al Ayuntamiento, como a las empresas colaboradoras, su inestimable colaboración “ya que sin esta ayuda nuestra publicación no podría salir a calle cada mes”.

The awards celebrate the contributions and achievements of amateurs participating in a wide variety of sports. This year Estepona has the highest number of nominees, with others from Manilva, Benahavis and San Pedro.

Trujillo thanked the work done by the magazine, which was founded in Estepona, to promote grass roots sport in the area, for which the publication had become a reference.

La pequeña Isabella necesita tu ayuda

Hace dos años y medio, Isabella Jones fue diagnosticada con fibrosis quística (doble cepa df508) cuando solo tenía ocho semanas de edad. Esto fue un gran golpe para su familia ya que su madre nunca supo que ni siquiera existía el gen en su familia. Pasó su embarazo sin saber nada de esto, y puedes imaginar su devastación al descubrir este hecho. Todos los días es una batalla constante para mantenerla sana y bien. Sus padres le administran más de 40 medicamentos todos los días, junto con mucha fisioterapia para extraer el moco de sus pulmones. También tiene que tomar cápsulas Creon cada vez que come ya que su páncreas no absorbe ni la grasa ni los nutrientes.

Debido a la acumulación de moco en sus pulmones, aparecen muchas complicaciones así que necesitan recaudar dinero para comprar un Afflovest. Esto eliminará las secreciones de sus pulmones y hará que sea más fácil para ella respirar, y con suerte no tendrá que estar en el hospital.

Normalmente está bien durante 10 semanas, tras las cuales aparece otra infección pulmonar y tiene que ser admitida en el hospital

Two and a half-year-old Isabella Jones was diagnosed with (CF) Cystic fibrosis (strain double df508) at just eight weeks old, this was a big shock to all of her family as her mother never knew she even had the CF gene in the family.

She had gone through her pregnancy without any knowledge of any of this and was devastated as you can imagine to find out Isabella had this. Every day is a constant battle to keep her healthy and well, Her parents have to give her over 40 medications every day along with lots of physio to free up the mucus in her lungs. She also has to take Creon capsules whenever she eats as her pancreas does not absorb the fat or nutrients.

Because of the buildup of mucus in her lungs, this causes many complications for her so they NEED to raise money for an Afflovest. This will help clear the secretions in her lungs and make her breathe more easily and hopefully keep her out of hospital. Keeping her as healthy as they can Isabella normally has 10 clear weeks after which she then begins to go down hill as another lung infection sets in she

then has to be admitted to hospital for a 14 day course of antibiotics by drip this basically clears the lungs of infection, it's very hard for the family as you can imagine especially Isabella as she is only two years and 5 months old.

Once the goal is reached for the vest for Isabella, the next stage begins which will be funding her treatment for the drugs needed for her to live as normal life as possible, at the moment the doctors say she will only live until the age of 8 years, unless she can get the correct treatment.

The family have set a target to raise 30,000 euros to cover the cost of the Afflovest unit and the vests which have to be exchanged as Isabella grows, along with other treatments and at the time of going to press they have already raised just over 24,000 euros, thanks to the generosity of family, friends and the general public, and just need your help to get them to their target before the end of the year.

El alcalde entrega las subvenciones municipales a 16 asociaciones que atienden a los colectivos más vulnerables

El alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, ha entregado hoy las subvenciones municipales a asociaciones y colectivos sociales que atienden a los colectivos más vulnerables de la ciudad. En concreto, se han destinado 70.150 euros a la Asociación de Familiares de Enfermos de Alzheimer, a la Asociación de Enfermos de Fibromialgia y Síndrome de Fatiga Crónica, a la Asociación Parkinson Sol, Cruz Roja Española, Plataforma del Voluntariado de Estepona, Asociación de Esclerosis Múltiple, Asociación de Discapacitados de Estepona (Asdies), la Asociación Frente Bolillón, Cáritas San José, Aprona, asociación Caminar, Cudeca, Estepona Solidaria, asociación de mujeres Peñas Blancas, Nuevo Futuro y Comedor Social.

El regidor ha señalado que las subvenciones van dirigidas a programas que prestan estas entidades a sus usuarios, a la adquisición de equipos y materiales, y a gastos de mantenimiento de sus sedes. “Nuestro objetivo es facilitar, en la medida de nuestras posibilidades, el trabajo desinteresado que realizan estos colectivos”, ha apuntado el primer edil.

García Urbano ha comentado que todas las asociaciones que han recibido estas aportaciones económicas realizan durante todo el año una “gran labor” que merece el apoyo institucional, ya que con sus programas e iniciativas atienden desde hace años a “los más necesitados de la sociedad”.

Por otra parte, el alcalde de Estepona ha señalado que el presupuesto municipal de 2017 contemplará una partida de 628.000 euros para las organizaciones benéficas y sociales que atienden a los colectivos con más dificultades de la ciudad, duplicando así la cantidad concedida este año. Así, el Consistorio destinará en el próximo ejercicio 302.000 euros a sufragar gastos ordinarios (luz, agua, electricidad o limpieza) de entidades como la Residencia de Ancianos Virgen del Carmen, el comedor social o la Asociación a Favor de Personas con Diversidad Funcional de Estepona (Aprona).

En este sentido, ha recordado el compromiso del Ayuntamiento con las políticas sociales, como uno de los ejes fundamentales y prioritarios de su acción municipal, al que cada año se destinan importantes esfuerzos económicos en el presupuesto municipal, con más de 6 millones de euros.

Junto a estas cantidades económicas, el Ayuntamiento colabora en la celebración de eventos que organizan estas entidades para recaudar fondos y entre otras medidas, cede gratuitamente las instalaciones del Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos para la celebración de eventos solidarios, además bonifica el Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles (IBI) a los colectivos sociales que dispongan de locales en propiedad, y da apoyo fiscal a quienes tienen menos recursos. Asimismo, existe un fondo de emergencia social para atender a aquellos ciudadanos que se encuentran en situaciones límite.

En esta materia, como medida pionera, García Urbano ha anunciado que se va a incluir una partida para la realización de pequeñas obras en viviendas que mejoren la habitabilidad y la calidad de vida de personas mayores con escasos recursos.

En relación al servicio de la ayuda a domicilio, ha indicado que se va a reforzar la atención de las personas dependientes con más personal, más medios técnicos que facilitarán los movimientos de los usuarios y cuidados que garantizarán el bienestar de los atendidos. Con la externalización de este servicio -que no cambiará las condiciones económicas de las trabajadoras-, se dispondrá de equipos especializados como grúas, camas articuladas o sillas para el baño, entre otros, para movilizar a las personas que requieran ayuda, y ofrecer servicios que actualmente no puede prestar a los usuarios como el de pedicura y peluquería a domicilio, rehabilitación por parte de un fisioterapeuta, la dotación de productos de limpieza y aseo personal o apoyo psicológico para los familiares.

Además, el Consistorio sigue costeando el servicio de Teleasistencia, así como los gastos de luz de la Residencia de Ancianos Virgen del Carmen y el traslado en autobús de los pacientes que necesitan desplazarse al hospital Costa del Sol. También se ha dado continuidad al programa de pruebas gratuitas para la detección precoz del cáncer ginecológico, y como novedad este año, se ha puesto en marcha de la campaña de detección del cáncer de próstata; así como la creación de una mesa de trabajo en materia de vivienda. Por último, ha recordado las obras que se están ejecutando para crear un centro de día para mayores en la zona de Huerta Nueva.

Local Toastmaster on the Podium in European Contest European success for Toastmaster John Sandner, a member of the ‘Achievers Toastmasters Club of Marbella.

John took 2nd place in the finals of English Language Humorous Speech Competition, beating the best elected speakers of every Toastmaster division in Portugal, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Holland and Luxembourg.

The District 59 finals in Humorous Speeches and Table Topics (impromptu 2-minute speeches on a specific topic or question in English and Spanish) were held in Madrid, featuring the best contestants from every Division of Toastmasters in these countries.

John Sandner had the audience of around 400 people laughing and applauding his comedic

speech about the stresses and struggles of airports and air travel.

According to his supporting group of Toastmasters from Marbella, he was the winner by laughs. Alas the judges’ ballots decide and John had to settle for coming in a worthy second to the eventual winner from Switzerland. However, with the quality of speakers at the European level, it is still a proud placement for the little 10-year-old club from Marbella, getting ‘in the ring’ with decades-old clubs from around Europe. John was presented with his runner-up trophy at the Gala Awards Dinner later on Saturday night at the Hotel VP Madroño.

La delegación de Cultura de Manilva ha colaborado en el acto organizado por el Ateneo para entregar el Premio Ateneo de Manilva 2016 que ha recaído en el escritor local Francisco Rodríguez Herrera El martes 13 de diciembre a las 18.00h en el Civima se realizará este evento con la actuación del cantautor Manuel Báez.

Francisco Rodríguez Herrera, nació el 25 de mayo de 1960, en San Luis de Sabinillas, Manilva.

Escribe desde su adolescencia, donde ve publicada en algunas revistas sus primeros escritos, siendo premiado en esa época con el premio “Quijote” en Ciudad Real con el poema “Conversación con un hombre”. Desde entonces ha seguido su trayectoria literaria colaborando y publicando en revistas y periódicos del extranjero y del país. En el año 1995, publica su primer libro de poemas titulado “Un libro de amor”, que es un canto lírico y reflexivo.

Más tarde publica el cuento para niños “Presagio en el río Henares (El anuncio del Quijote), que pertenece a una serie de “Cinco cuentos que dan luz, sobre la vida de autores célebres, como son Balzac, Shekespeare, Machado y Goethe. En el año 2013, sale a la luz su primera novela: “Petra, in vino veritas”, de un especial significado para el autor, donde narra la historia de una mujer tierna y vital, con una gran personalidad, que elevó la sensibilidad de un joven que mantuvo una gran amistad con ella desde la adolescencia.

Su segunda novela aparece poco después “Viaje sin edad”, en la que se relata la historia de una familia de pescadores. Lo último publicado son “Los cuentos de Pekita”, el primero de lo que será una serie de cuentos donde distintos personajes viven en un mundo fantástico y divertido, proyecto que nace en la infancia de sus hijas. Más tarde se publica el cd con el título: “Las canciones de Pekita”, del que es autor de melodías y letras.

Actualmente trabaja en varios proyectos y colabora con sus escritos en un periódico local bilingüe.

Trabaja en otras obras noveladas como: “Nadie se llama Caín” o “Los sueños del monarca”, etc.

En su trayectoria literaria cuenta con una obra extensa en prosa y poesía tanto para adultos como para público infantil. Contando con libros infantiles como “La orilla mágica”, “El almirez de cartón”, “En aprender a leer”, “Nanarín”, y otros. Obras de corte espiritual como “Fragancias del sol”, “Estrella libre que llega a mi corazón y lo santigua” o “Albergues de la paz”, etc.

En poesía hay una larga lista de títulos aún sin publicar, como son: “El cuaderno de las rosas”, “Lírica social”, “El cuerpo de

The Culture Department in collaboration with the Ateneo cultural association presented the Manilva 2016 Ateneo Prize to local writer Francisco Rodríguez Herrera The event took place on Tuesday 13 December from 6 pm at Civima with a performance by singer Manuel Báez.

Francisco Rodríguez Herrera was born on May 25 1960 in San Luis de Sabinillas, Manilva.

He began writing from adolescence, with some of his first pieces published in magazines, being awarded at that time with the "Quixote" prize in Ciudad Real for the poem "Conversation with a man." Since then he has continued his literary career by collaborating and publishing in magazines and newspapers from abroad and in Spain. In 1995, he published his first book of poems entitled "A book of love", a lyrical and reflective piece. Later he went on to publish the children's story "Omen in the Henares River", which belongs to a series of five stories which shed light on the lives of famous authors

such as Balzac, Shakespeare, Machado and Goethe. In 2013, he released his first novel "Petra, in vino veritas", which holds a special meaning for the author, where he tells the story of a tender and vital woman with a great personality, who leaves a lasting impression on a young man who maintained a great friendship with her from adolescence. His second novel appears shortly after, "Journey without age", which tells the story of a family of fishermen. His latest pieces are "Pekita's tales", the first of what will be a series of short stories where different characters live in a fantastic and fun world, a project born during the childhood of his daughters. Later the cd is published with the title: "The songs of Pekita", of which he is the author of melodies and lyrics.

He currently works on several projects and collaborates with

his writings in The Resident newspaper.

He works on other novels such as: "No one is called Cain" or "The dreams of the monarch", etc.

His literary path includes extensive work in prose and poetry for both adults and children. With children's books such as "The magic shore", "The cardboard mallet", "In learning to read", "Nanarín", and others. Spiritual works such as "Fragrances of the sun", "Free star that reaches my heart and sanctity" or "Shelters of peace", etc.

In poetry there is a long list of titles not yet published, such as: "The Notebook of the Roses", "Social Lyric", "The Body of the Poppy", "The Poet of Numbers", "Time of Simplicity" "Workers in the dawn", "The host of the forest", "Stamens of love" "The couplets of Rosa and other reasons and without reasons of love", etc.

The St George charity is looking for donations of cash, which will then used to put together gift bags for underprivileged children aged from 3 to 16 years of age as identified by the local Social Services Departments in Manilva and Casares, and the Emaus Social Kitchen in Estepona. Last year the charity provided gift bags for around 490 children.

Boxing Day sponsored swim After the success of last year’s inaugural Sabi Spartan Boxing Day Swim, which raised nearly a thousand euros for charity, local resident Ian Ewing is organising the second edition of this event, in collaboration with the St George Charity and the Nyland Knight Foundation.

The swim takes place around 1

pm on Monday 26 December in front of the statue in Sabinillas. All swimmers are welcome, and if you don’t fancy braving the waves then you can always help by sponsoring someone who is.

All monies raised will be divided between The Duquesa Charitable Society of St George and the Nyland Knight Charitable Foundation.

El Hairy Lemon en el Puerto de Sotogrande completó su aforo para su Charity Pub Quiz anual en ayuda de la Campaña de regalos de Navidad de St. George que proporciona bolsas de regalos a unos 500 niños desfavorecidos en Manilva, Casares y Estepona en Navidad.

El concurso, organizado y presentado por Jojo France fue divertido y como punto final se jugó al popular Bingo irlandés.

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain weekly surgery The Duquesa Charitable Society of St George is hosting a weekly surgery by Citizens Advice Bureau Spain every Wednesday morning from 10.30 am to 1 pm.

The surgery will be held at the St George Charity’s new shop in Calle Aurora de Albornoz, Punta Almina, Sabinillas, and is part of the Charity’s community support programme.

If you would like to see one of CAB Spain’s advisers then pop along to the shop on Wednesday morning, although it is advisable to book an appointment as it can sometimes be busy.

All consultations are free but CAB Spain is funded by donations, so if you feel that their advice has been valuable then please make a donation in the tin provided.

Gracias a las generosas donaciones recibidas, hay nuevos artículos en la tienda a diario. ¡Visita las tiendas regularmente para no perderte esa ganga!

Además de contar con algunos artículos geniales, las tiendas benéficas de St George también ofrecen en alquiler diferentes artículos como sillas de ruedas, muletas, cunas de viaje, etc.

La dirección de la tienda agradece las donaciones de artículos usados de calidad, y puede organizar su recogida si fuese necesario.

También buscan libros de segunda mano, especialmente en idiomas distintos al inglés, para llenar sus amplias estanterías.

Visit Andalucia travelogues are much more than just guide books. They explore and illustrate in graphic colour the subject and the place. They are for people who are not satisfied with what they are told from the top deck of a tour bus or from the guides supplied by the tourist office.

They are written by Nick Nutter who has lived in Andalucia since the year 2000 and who on his own admission has an insatiable appetite for information. “I was a real pain at school, always asking ‘why’ and ‘how'” he says. Nick was the editor of a successful magazine on the Costa del Sol, ‘Andalucia Life’ and discovered that Andalucia has much more to offer than what is on the surface. ‘I decided to write for the curious traveller’.

‘The Road to Manilva’ looks at the Municipality of Manilva from prehistoric times to the modern day. It takes you to places within the municipality not normally visited by the visitor from Tartessian – Phoenician settlements to the Roman Baths, still used today. The book covers diverse subjects that influenced the growth of Manilva and its towns such as the Barbary Pirates and the history of amphorae. It does much more than just scratch the surface.

Autumn is one of the times of year when depression is more frequent and intense, but this does not only affect humans; our pets also can become sad and apathetic, as confirmed by several experts.

One of the most common reasons why we suffer from autumnal depression is it follows the summer vacation period with a return to the routine of daily life, an attitude that can be transmitted to our pets and bring them to slow down their activity level, letting their melancholic eyelids fall over their eyes, however, there is help for them too.

Carolina Pinedo, environmental journalist and member of the NGO Defence Animal Rights Association (ADDA), explained to EFE Verde that depression is associated mainly to the change in routine that takes place after the summer holidays, “regardless that in autumn there is a time change and there is less daylight”.

To Pinedo, “depression in pets, both dogs and cats, can be caused by many reasons but only the owner who knows their pet best, can tell whether the pet is experiencing a chronic, transitory, or seasonal depression”.

It is the opinion of Miguel Ibanez, professor on the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and director of the Center

for Animal Behavioral Medicine at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), in a statement to EFE Verde that, “the causes of depression in any animal, including humans, is the result of a state of emotional distress and anxiety, to which there is no chance to react”.

To begin with the place where a pet lives, usually a flat, may be a stressful situation because that does not usually provide them with the special features or sufficient means to meet the natural needs the animal may have.

“The same thing could happen to a person living in an apartment without being able to fulfill certain needs, such as social interaction and/or the inability to work outside of the home milieu, or in such conditions where one is living a very controlled life, as can be seen in the prisons, where the chances of anxiety or depression are very high because one of the great, basic needs is lacking; that of social interactions and relationships “, describes the expert.

The most obvious signs that are noticeable when an animal suffers from this problem are sadness, a reduction in their normal activity, increasing apathy and reduced appetite.

Una de las razones más habituales por las que sufrimos las depresiones otoñales es la vuelta del período de vacaciones a la rutina de la vida cotidiana, una actitud que puede contagiarse a nuestros animales de compañía y llevarles también a “cruzarse de brazos” dejando que sus párpados caigan de forma melancólica sobre sus ojos, sin embargo, también para ellas hay ayuda. Carolina Pinedo, periodista medioambiental y miembro de la ONG Asociación Defensa Derechos Animales (ADDA), ha explicado a Efe Verde que la depresión va asociada principalmente al cambio de rutina que se realiza tras el verano, “independientemente de que cuando llega el otoño cambie el tiempo y haya menos luz”.

Para Pinedo, “las depresiones de los animales domésticos, tanto perros como gatos, pueden ser causadas por muchas razones pero sólo el dueño, que es quien conoce a su animal más de cerca, podrá distinguir si se trata de una depresión crónica, pasajera o estacional”.

El profesor de la Facultad de Veterinaria y

director del Centro de Medicina de Comportamiento Animal de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), Miguel Ibáñez, opinaba para EFE Verde que “las causas de depresión en cualquier animal, incluso en el ser humano, es el resultado de un estado de conflicto emocional y ansiedad, ante el que ya no hay posibilidades de reaccionar”.

El mismo lugar donde vive una mascota, generalmente un piso, le proporciona una situación estresante de partida, ya que no suele disponer de las características especiales ni los medios suficientes para atender las necesidades naturales que pueda tener el animal.

“Lo mismo que le podría ocurrir al ser humano que vive en un piso sin disponer de determinadas condiciones como son la socialización y la imposibilidad de trabajar en el exterior, o con una vida muy controlada como pueda ser en los penales, donde las posibilidades de ansiedad o depresión son muy altos porque falta una de las grandes necesidades: la relación social”, describe este experto.

Los síntomas más evidentes que muestra un animal cuando sufre este problema son tristeza, reducción de su actividad habitual, incremento de la apatía y menor apetito..

An alternative could be adopting an adult from one of the many overcrowded shelters.

Yet a better holiday gift idea is to get one that comes with batteries.

You can always visit any one of the local shelters at another time of year, when everything that that entails, by bringing a living, sentient being into your family has been thoroughly discussed, and is fully understood – by all the members of the family!

The holiday season is fast approaching, with it lots of savoury delights, just as we need to take care in what we indulge in so should we be aware of what treats our four legged family members are feasting on as well! Be careful with overdoing the table scraps, there is a tendency to be generous with turkey skins, cracklings or other fatty cast off bits, they may lead to serious pancreatic problems. Meat, poultry, and fish bones are definite items to avoid. A carnivore is a meat eater not a bone eater; sooner or later their consumption will cause problems that could be fatal. Bones are definitely a bad idea and now there are substitutes, commercially available which will do no harm. Eating grass or other plant material may make them sick or could even be poisonous. Chocolate is poisonous. It has recently been pointed out that Poinsettias are poisonous to cats.

Las fiestas se acercan y con ellas habrá muchas tentaciones para regalar una mascota. Debemos ser conscientes de que tomamos la mejor decisión al regalar un animal a nuestros familiares. Una vez en casa se debe tener cuidado con las sobras de las comidas ya que hay una tendencia de ser generosos con los pellejos de pavo, cortezas de cerdo u otros restos grasientos, aquellos que pueden producir problemas digestivos o pancreáticos. Un carnívoro come carne y no es un huesívoro, o sea comedor de huesos, tarde o temprano producirá problemas que pueden tener un desenlace fatal. Los huesos no son buenos y ahora hay sustitutivos disponibles en tiendas que no causarán daños a nuestra mascota.

Comiendo césped, hierba o plantas podría sentales mal. El chocolate es muy perjudicial para ellos. Además, recientemente se ha señalado que la flor de pascula también es venenosa para perros y gatos.

Live your dreams!

This is a man, who has overcome many difficult obstacles to achieve a dream, and this is his story!

This is the life story of a man called Paul Appleyard, who at the age of 11 was diagnosed with Stargardts disease, a bi lateral juvenile form of macular degeneration... Or better known as ‘blindness’.

His vision became reduced, eventually to 5%, everyday objects became vague, aero planes in the sky were no longer visible and he began you to rely on his memory because his vision was fading fast.

“Mr and Mrs Appleyard, take him home, let him get on with his life and he probably won’t achieve anything.”

This is what the professionals were advising. Really? Was this it? Was this as good as it got?

Even at an early age he had dreams, he knew he would achieve more.

You see, the story you tell yourself, no matter where it comes from, will eventually become your reality. If you don’t like your reality, then just tell a different story!

Ignoring the doubters, ignoring the critics and the naysayers, hell no to the so-called experts, it’s amazing what you can achieve, when you believe in yourself.

Fast forward through quarter of a century of constant struggles and knock backs, a life’s worth of different challenges , but against the odds, he carved a very successful career in the financial industry, he is very happily

married, semi-retired in the sun and living his dream, oh yea , and he’s only 38.

With time on his hands he was now able to dedicate time to his new found love, golf.

He knew that habitually doing the right things and, more importantly, in the right way, would get the results he wanted. He later went on to win several blind golf events and regular golf events, things were going well and a few years later he managed to become a single figure handicap golfer, This was a big deal.one of his major goals ticked off.

Then one day, remembering those famous last words ‘you will never achieve anything’ he began to dream a new dream. It was so big, he had set his sights so high it could no longer be considered as realistic or possible. Or could it?

They were wrong many years ago and there was no reason why he could not push the limits again. So he set out on a journey to become’ world blind golf champion’.

He knew all the theory but the practice was a reality check, losing 15kg in weight was the first shock, but it had to be done.

How did he do it? Simple, He found out what the elite athletes of the world do to get ready for competition and copied it, proper nutrition, regular personal trainer sessions, and regular physio and so on

However, the biggest challenge was he still needed to improve as a golfer, so again, he found the best tutor in his area and went to him, put his trust in him and did everything he was told.

Long story getting shorter, all the professional attention to detail in the preparation and planning began to pay off,

May 2014 he won 3 world blind golf Titles out of 4 (in his sight category) But it doesn’t end there, He had to try and defend these titles in Japan 2016.

So, the Road to Japan began. You would think it should be easier second time around and in terms of weight loss, yes it was, he just needed to lose 5kg this time.

But the training, golf practice, Japanese medicine sessions, proper nutrition, zero alcohol and all the other ingredients for success had to be done all over again.

He needed a different transformation this time, no longer going from a big lump of blubber to someone more in shape but moving from someone already in shape to becoming super fit with a solid core. He found the right

trainer (Jojo France) who told him right from the start that we wouldn’t necessarily be working on pure strength but on making my core a solid as it could be by doing the right movements and more importantly, in the right way, over and over. Strength through stability made a huge impact on his golf game.

His precious single figure handicap was put on the line as well this time because he wanted to make his golf swing a better one and not just rely on making the most of what he already had, in fact his handicap went from 7.6 to 10.5 in less than 2 years, but you know what, it was worth it.

Yeah, yeah, so what, many people have done similar things before, you see them all the time on the telly. But what you should realise is he is not an elite athlete with access to all the modern technologies and a huge team behind him, he is just a regular guy who had a dream and the drive to pursue it.

Tell yourself a new story, tell yourself you are good enough and can do it and you are more than half way there In Paul’s words!

“Oh yeah, and all this with just 5 per cent central vision!

I don’t say this to brag, though I am a proud of what I have achieved, but more to emphasise that it does not matter about a so called disability or unfair disadvantage life may have thrown your way, you can and will achieve your dreams if you tackle them in the right way with the right people behind you.

Be a winner my friend, be proactive, tell the right tale, take massive action and huge steps forward and don’t hold back, adapt and try new approaches and above all, enjoy each and every step along the way.

Set your sights high and don’t hold back...”

The Gecko on the Wall The world of golf through the eyes of Calum McGregor With the festive season fast approaching, it heralds the end of yet another fantastic year of tournament golf. Some professional golfers will be looking at the past season and working out how to re-group and bounce back, while others will be heading for their rookie seasons onto even bigger stages of professional golf. The rollercoaster life of a professional golfer is cruel, but richly rewarding for those that persevere and endure the continual grind of life

on the cut mark. With a designated amount of places on each tour and tournament, every tale of triumph and victory is mirrored by a tale of deflation and disappointment.

While I cheer on the success of a certain few, I am also saddened by the stories of missed cuts and lost cards. On the positive side, golf provides its challengers with a lifetime of ups and downs. The longevity of a professional golfers life is determined by the effort and sacrifice made. As opposed to

other sports where professionals reach their peak at an earlier age, golf allows its participants many extra years to pursue opportunities for disappointment or adulation.

Such is the life of a professional golfer. The rollercoaster ride of professional golf keeps going round and around and as players decide to step of the stomach churning ride, through choice of their own or due to missed cuts, they will need to decide whether they are willing to join the never ending queue

Q-School - The toughest test in professional golf Last month witnessed the toughest test in golf, The European Tour Qualifying School. The ET Q-School is an annual event designed to test the metal and the nerve of any professional golfer that dares to enter. Entering Q school is one of the biggest challenges a pro golfer can face and the risk is huge considering the cost to enter, but the rewards are life changing.

First stage of Q-school consists of a series of nine tournaments held across Europe. Approximately 1000 golfers from across the world, who think they are ready to play on the European Tour, tee it up for their place among the elite golfers of the world. After the first tournament only the golfers who make the cut progress through to the next stage, sending the bottom half of the players home. The surviving golfers then play in stage two, another series of four events where only the top twenty players in each tournament progress to the final stage.

The 80 players whittled out of the original 1000, meet for the final and most gruelling stage. For the final stage the players that have made it this far, are now joined by the European tour players who didn’t manage to secure their own cards.

This final stage offers them a last chance to prove they are better than the emerging young professionals.

Meeting at PGA Catalunya Resort in Girona Spain, the golfers who included 36 previous winners on The European Tour, 2 Ryder Cup

players and a Major Champion, competed in a six day tournament over two courses. Horrendous conditions for the first few days made it especially difficult and at the end of the whole process only the top 25 golfers would win their spot on The European Tour. The youngest graduate was England’s Max Orrin, aged 22, while Ricardo

Gonzalez made history becoming the oldest graduate ever aged 47.

It gave me great pleasure witnessing my dear friend Anton Karlsson, “The Silent Assassin” aged 23, finish in fifth place with an incredible final round of 68 (-4).

I can’t wait to follow my friend next year in his rookie season as a European Tour player.

Spurred on by witnessing professionals winning tournaments well into their forties, eternal hope and optimism is reflected in the age of its competitors. I don’t know any other sport where a twenty year old rookie can take on a veteran in his fifties. Golf obviously favours the naturally talented but also rewards the doggedly determined and level headed experience. Keep on grinding boys.

Grand Finale to the 2016 European Tour season

The month of November played host to the “Final Series”, the most lucrative tournaments of the season. Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen shot a total of 264(-20) to claim the Turkish Airlines Open in Antalaya Turkey. Thanks to a change in equipment, the young Dane regained the form he showed at the start of the season.

The following week, Sweden’s Alex Noren (Who a few years ago was here in the Costa del Sol working with Mark McCrea from The players academy) topped off an incredible season with his fourth win of the year, claiming The Nedbank Golf Challenge in Sun city South Africa. The final event in the series was won by the 22 year old from Sheffield England, Mathew Fitzpatrick. The young Englishman shot a final total of 271 (-17) to claim the DP World Tour Championship

in Dubai and pocketed his share of the $ 8000000.00 prize fund. As a special treat for the golf addicts around the world, the season concluded with The World Cup of Golf held in Melbourne Australia.

The Danish pair of Soren Kjeldsen and Thorbjorn Olesen, shot a final round of 66(-6) to claim Denmark’s first ever win at The ISPS Handa World Cup. The red hot pair held of some strong competition from the runners up France, China and USA. It was especially exciting to witness Duncan Stewart, a golfer who for the last few years has played his winter golf in the Costa del Sol, represent his nation of Scotland alongside his old college roommate and best friend Russel Knox. Duncan managed to secure his full European Tour card for the upcoming season and definitely is a player to watch in the future.

Not counting the recent floods, winter in the Costa del Sol is a time local golfer’s look forward too. This is the peak season for the “Costa del Golf” and other than a few days of rain and a cold nip in the early morning air, the conditions for golf are the best in Europe. The mild winter climate and the world class golf courses have attracted professional golfers from around

the globe. Like migrating birds, professional golfers have left their native snow covered counties and gathered in the Costa del Sol to stay tournament fit during the winter, before the next leg in their golfing journey.

With the best golfing conditions in Europe, Southern Spain will play host to a number of professional events during the winter. December will see The Alps Tour (European satellite tour), holding its Qualifying school at La Cala golf Resort in Mijas. The following months will also witness the Andalucian Amateur Open at Guadalmina and the MENA Tour’s Sotogrande Masters will take place in the New Year.

On top of all the larger visiting tours, a local professional golf tour will also be holding its 6th season with events up and down the coast.

residents to enjoy, with the formation of the Manilva Table Tennis Club. Founded by John Ullger with the aim of providing an opportu-

nity for those wishing to practice or take up the sport from scratch to do so locally.

The club meets at the Sabinillas sportshall every Tuesday between 7 pm and 9 pm and currently has two tables, which will be increasing very shortly to five.

John is an experienced coach so don’t worry if you’ve never played as he will soon have up and running.

The Resident Sports correspondent, Calum McGregor, publishes his latest book My latest book is a love story, set in an area otherwise known as the Costa del golf. Golf has always been one of my biggest passions in life. Being on a golf course gives me peace of mind and a serenity that I feel nowhere else. I left my job at an online gaming company in Gibraltar and devoted my attention to writing and creating a path for myself in the world of professional golf. Being passed the peak of my playing career, I put my knowledge and experience to use and started couching and caddying for a young English professional on The Gecko Tour, the only professional golf tour in Spain at the time. After a few years on the tour I would move up the ranks and ultimately become the Tour Manager. Writing and commentating on the future stars of golf at the start of their careers, I watched as they grew in confidence and stature.

Wanted to help the young professional golfers with my past experience, hopefully helping to guide them around the pitfalls in life, I still caddied at any opportunity and proudly watched as my young pros went on to compete in the biggest stages of world golf.

Never married and without children, I gave up on the hope of finding a partner and decided to settle down and fall in love with Spain.

I missed my beloved South Africa with all my heart and I tried to find a similar lifestyle on the Andalusian coast. With writing as my passion I decided to follow in the footsteps of Ernest Hemmingway. Going on adventures and experiencing the local culture, I went to witness bullfights first hand and wrote the events in all its gory details. I went

Spain became my new home and with my new little family we would spend the afternoons riding horses at the stables of peace.

Weekends were spent playing amateur golf tournaments with my queen at luxury destinations and Christmases were spent in the snowy mountains of the Sierra Nevada.

As usual in my life, unforeseeable hardships would whip the rug out from under my feet. My perfect life and loving relationship would be tested to breaking point and I was forced to fight silently once again for my own happiness and peace of mind.

The Alps Tour Q School at la Cala Mijas

Despite the very bad weather affecting the region of Malaga, The Alps Tour was pleased that there was no serious damage on Europa and Asia courses at La Cala Golf Resort. The green keeping staff worked hard to clean up the storm damage and repair all the bunkers on both courses and this year’s Q-School would go ahead as planned.

Just like the Q-School for the Eu-

ropean Tour, players who wish to compete on The Alps Tour need to qualify through a series of tournaments held at the Spanish resort.

The tournament will be organized in two steps. The First Stage will be played on 11th & 12th December and welcome 151 players all hoping to advance through to the Final Stage which takes place at the same venue the week after, from 15th to 17th December.

At the end of this exam, 65 players and ties will gain their ‘card’ for the 2017 Alps Tour Season.

La Cala Resort is the host of the Alps Tour Qualifying School for the third time and this year all records have already been broken. No less than 260 players from 21 different countries including 4 former European Tour members, took their chance to win a place on The Alps Tour.

Caddies Corner This month I have the pleasure of caddying for Luke Donnelly, a nineteen year old Amateur golfer from Kilkenny Ireland. Luke has been playing his winter golf in Spain for the last two seasons as a member of The Gecko Academy and I have seen him grow from a young boy into a young man.

During the summer season Luke has been competing in Irish Amateur tournaments and he felt it was time to compete in a Q school to test his ability against some of Europe’s finest emerging talent.

“I have been working with my coach back in Ireland over the summer and I have worked hard on my swing. I have also started working with a putting coach and I feel like my game is getting stronger and stronger. I am only nineteen so I plan to stay as an amateur for another year, but I wanted to come to The Alps Q School to see how far away I was from the professional level, and of course for the experience. My goal is to at least make it past the first stage and then to see what happens after that, it’s all about the experience for me at the moment” Luke who normally has his father caddie for him, but who was unfortunately unable to come to this event, asked me if I would step in to fill the role. Having watched Luke participate in numerous Gecko Tour events last season I was excited to see the work he had been putting in over the summer and I jumped at the opportunity.

About the Alps Tour The Alps Tour is a non-profit association, established in 2001 by four countries: Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland, to give young professionals the opportunity to play and get professional tournament experience. Other countries have joined the Alps Tour: Belgium, Spain, Slovenia, Morocco and recently Egypt. In 2013, more than 600 players from 22 different nationalities took part in the 18 events, with the total amount of prize funds during that season reaching approx. 700 thousand Euros.

The best players of the season get a category on The Challenge Tour or/as well as exemptions from Stage 1 of the European Tour Qualifying School. Due to the success and growth of the European Challenge Tour, it was unable to welcome all the players wishing to participate in their events and consequently the European Tour decided to create a third and more regional tier in golf, known as the European satellite tours.

Great Britain and Ireland have the EuroPro Tour, the Scandinavian countries together make up the Nordic League, Pro Golf Tour caters for Central Europe and The Alps Tour.

These circuits of the 3rd European division allow the best 5 players from each of the Tours to be eligible for Challenge Tour membership the following season. In 2016 The Alps Tour celebrated its 15th anniversary and now players participating get World golf ranking points.

Casares Footgolf wins first ever Spain/Portugal title

on the 4th hole when his tee shot found the water hazard and he finished the hole with a quadruple bogey eight. Showing a new found maturity, Luke put the hole behind him and kept his cool, finishing the first round with a score of +5, still inside the cut mark.

The following day I witnessed a young amateur turn professional.

Cool and collected, Luke played a superb round of level par to fall well within the cut mark and achieved his goal of making the final stage of the Alp Tour Q School.

“I felt so calm out there for the last two days which was thanks to my caddie. It felt like a round at home. I was a little nervous coming through the 4th after the first days eight on

the hole, but I only got a bogey on the second day and after that I hit some great wedges and drives. I hit the last five greens and I was putting for birdies on all of them. I really felt relaxed and in control and I enjoyed the way I was playing. It was really great fun being out there with Calum and I can’t wait for the final stage. We have decided to go and have some more fun and see where we can get too.”

The Circuito Iberico season was played over 9 months, featuring twelve two-day tournaments all over the Iberian Peninsula. However, the Casares “Papagayos” had the team title already wrapped up after stage 10, having won the majority of stages.

The individual national title, however, was not decided until a final kick on a 3 hole playoff of the final Stage at Jerez Golf Club last Sunday, November 20th. Casares could not be prouder that one of it's own, Ash Thomas, emerged as the eventual season winner, just passing GolfTab's Sergio Gutierez in the process to finish the year as number 1 player in Spain and Portugal. Casares' Gareth Morcombe came from 2 strokes back to make Ash work for the title, taking the lead for several holes on the back nine on Sunday, but Ash was up for the challenge.

Simon Brook also finishing 4th for the year, giving Casares FGC 3 of the top four ranked mens players

in Spain. An absolutely dominant performance in their first ever national campaign. They say they will be ready to repeat as Champs in 2017 CFGCs Quinn Kleiser finished second in the junior season. Laura Irving also managed 2nd place in the ladies category for CFGC as well.

Casares Footgolf Is the only International tournament standard FootGolf course in the southern part of Spain. Afluencia masiva de deportistas en el VII Torneo Internacional de Esgrima Ciudad de San Roque

Para despedir el año el Club Internacional de Esgrima junto con el Patronato de Deportes de San Roque ha organizado la séptima Competición Amistosa Internacional de Esgrima.

A la competición acudieron esgrimistas desde los cuatro años de edad tanto en categoría femenina como masculina.

Pequeños y grandes tiradores acudieron a la cita en el nuevo Polideportivo de San Roque que contó con el calor y la ilusión de participantes y organizadores.

Tomaron parte más de 60 deportistas de los principales colegios internacionales de la Costa del Sol y Campo de Gibraltar así como de la Escuela Deportiva de Base de San Roque, el Castillo de la Duquesa y Escuela Municipal de Esgrima de Estepona.

La afluencia fue masiva por parte de los tiradores de esgrima de la Escuela Deportiva de Base de San Roque cuyos

deportistas demostraron una alta calidad técnica y táctica.

Desde aquí damos las gracias al Ayuntamiento de San Roque y los responsables de deporte base por estimular la práctica de deportes nuevos y en concreto de esta disciplina que tiene la belleza de la danza, la agresividad de las artes marciales, la filosofía de los antiguos caballeros y la estrategia del ajedrez.

Todos los participantes y sus familias así como el numeroso público que acudió a la competición disfrutaron de la magnífica exhibición de estos deportistas. Para algunos de ellos fue su primera prueba demostrando una gran competitividad y juego limpio que les hicieron acreedores de trofeos, medallas y premios conmemorativos para despedir el año.

Los ganadores en categoría absoluta fueron Joanna Kustra y Víctor Seguín que realizaron

unos espectaculares asaltos rememorando los antiguos duelos de antaño. El ganador de la competición de menores de 15 años fue Efraim Carrión, Hamish Kamaie y Amelia Deardon.

Hay que agradecer a todos los colaboradores del Patronato de Deportes y Turismo y Ayuntamiento de San Roque y a todas las fuerzas vivas y miembros del Club Internacional de Esgrima por su entrega y buen hacer.

Un gran trabajo de los maestros y monitores del Club, Miguel, Victor, Auke, Phil y Paul.

Great turnout of athletes for the VII International Fencing Tournament City of San Roque To round off the year the International Fencing Club, together with the San Roque Sports Department has organized the seventh International Friendly Fencing Competition. Fencers came from the age of four in both women’s and men’s categories.

Fencers attended the event in San Roque’s new sports centre which warmed to the enthusiasm of participants and organizers.

More than 60 athletes from the main international fencing schools of the Costa del Sol and Campo de Gibraltar as well as the Sports School of San Roque, Castillo de la Duquesa School and the Estepona

Municipal Fencing School took part.

All the participants and their families as well as the numerous public that attended the competition enjoyed the magnificent exhibition of these athletes. For some of them it was their first competitive match, and they showed great competitiveness and fair play that earned them trophies, medals and commemorative prizes to top off the year.

The winners in absolute category were Joanna Kustra and Víctor Seguín who realized spectacular fights recalling the duels of old. The winner of the under-15 competition

was Efraim Carrion, Hamish Kamaie and Amelia Deardon.

We must thank all the collaborators of the San Roque Sports and Tourism Board and all the members of the International Fencing Club for their dedication and good work.

El Esgrima de la Escuela del Castillo consigue la I Copa De España La Real Federación Española de Esgrima ha organizado la "I Copa de España de Esgrima Histórica" en la modalidad de Duelo del Siglo XVII. Participaron alrededor de 70 duelistas, máximos exponentes de la esgrima histórica del territorio nacional y representantes de la esgrima antigua internacional que se enfrentaron en las modalidades de “espada ropera del siglo XVII” y “espada y daga”.

Los duelos tuvieron lugar en la ciudad de Elda (Alicante) donde acudieron multitud de aficionados y curiosos de este noble arte que rememora el espíritu de la esgrima antigua, sus técnicas, destreza, tretas así como sus armas y vestuario sin olvidar la filosofía de los antiguos caballeros de armas.

El maestro del Club “AndaluZía” Alberto Zerrada en su primera

competición en este estilo fue el único representante de la provincia. Después de infinidad de duelos muy disputados acabó subiéndose a lo más alto del podium gracias a una combinación de velocidad, destreza, estética, concentración y conocimiento de esta antigua disciplina.

El Ayuntamiento de Manilva, a través de la delegación de Deportes, dirigida por Agustín Vargas, quiere felicitar al profesor por este logro y destacar la posibilidad que tienen nuestros vecinos de practicar esta disciplina deportiva.

Manilva’s Fencing School triumphs at the I Spanish Historical Fencing contest I Spanish Historical Fencing Cup organised by the Royal Spanish Fencing Federation, celebrated the art of dueling in the 17th Century.

Around 70 duelists, drawn from the most outstanding exponents of historical fencing, competed in the categories of ‘17th Century Rapier’ and ‘Sword and Dagger’.

The contest was held in Elda, Alicante, where fans of this noble art gathered to watch the old techniques, dexterity, tricks as well as the weapons and costumes of these old knights of arms.

The master of Manilva’s fencing Club "AndaluZía", Alberto Zerrada, competing in his first competition of this style, was the

only representative from Malaga province, and after numerous duels, took the top spot on the winner’s podium thanks to a combination of speed, dexterity, aesthetics, concentration and knowledge of this ancient discipline.

Manilva’s Councillor for Sports, Agustin Vargas, wishes to congratulate Alberto Zerrada for his achievement and to highlight the opportunity available to local residents to take up this sport.

Rafael Mena, nuevo Presidente del Manilva Basket Base El Club Deportivo Manilva Basket Base cuenta con un nuevo presidente.

Se ha reunido la junta directiva del Club manilveño en el salón de plenos de la localidad, donde el hasta entonces presidente de la entidad, Mario Jiménez, presentaba su dimisión del cargo.

Esta dimisión está motivada por ostentar un cargo de mayor responsabilidad como es la alcaldía de nuestro municipio.

Jiménez explicaba que continuará apoyando al Club de baloncesto manilveño de la misma manera

que hará con el resto de entidades deportivas de la localidad y en igualdad de condiciones.

En esta misma junta y por unanimidad, se aprobaba el nuevo cargo de presidente que ostentará a partir de ahora Rafael Mena González.

Mena, que ya formaba parte del equipo directivo como vocal y siempre ligado a este deporte, afirma que continuará con la senda marcada en el Club y apostando por el crecimiento del Manilva Basket Base en todos los sentidos.

The Club’s committee met in the town’s council rooms where the then president of the club, Mario Jiménez, presented his resignation of the position. This resignation is motivated by his election to a position of greater responsibility as the mayor of our municipality.

Jimenez explained that he will continue to support the Manilva Basketball Club in the same way

that he will the rest of the local sports organizations in the municipality and in equal measure.

At the same meeting the new president, Rafael Mena González, was approved unanimously.

Mena, who was already part of the management team and always linked to the sport, stated that he will continue down the Club’s current path and is confident it will grow in every way..

Quince deportistas del Club Internacional de Esgrima AndaluZía premiados en la III Gala al Mérito Deportivo El pasado mes se celebró en Córdoba la III Gala de esgrima al mérito deportivo del Circuito Gerónimo de Carranza. Acudieron deportistas, familiares, maestros, clubes y autoridades de toda Andalucía. Esta iniciativa representa un reconocimiento a los mejores deportistas de todas las categorías y armas de la pasada temporada a nivel andaluz y nacional.

Esta Gala ha constituido un gran broche final a una temporada llena de éxitos deportivos para el Club Internacional de Esgrima y todos sus componentes que de nuevo han conseguido un subcampeonato en el criterium nacional de categoría femenina de menores de 10 años equivalente al Campeonato de España.

Los premiados fueron Amelia y Catherine Deardon, Marta Serrano, Jasmine Bateman, Claudia Morodo, Teresa Córdoba y Zu-

lema Ochagavías en categoría infantil femenina y Harry J. Canepa, Guillermo Buffing, Declan Wharton, Laird Krodelsmith y Nicolás Pérez en categoría masculina. Los veteranos ganadores fueron María Maldonado y Paul Holder, maestro del Club.

El premio especial al Mérito Deportivo lo obtuvo Miguel Fernández del Saz, monotor del Club que fue galardonado por su dedicación, esfuerzo y honestidad en la enseñanza de este

noble deporte, reconocimiento al que se unieron todos los miembros, maestros y familiares del Club.

Estos galardones premian el gran esfuerzo, constancia y juego limpio de estos tiradores y auguran una gran temporada actual en la cual se competirá a nivel internacional.

Fifteen athletes from the AndaluZia International Fencing Club won awards at the III Sports Merit Gala The the Geronimo Circuit’s III Fencing Sports Merit Gala was held in Cordoba last month with athletes, teachers, relatives and clubs from all across Andalucia in attendance. The event recognises the best athletes from all categories and disciplines in fencing at regional and national level.

The Gala provided a great finishing touch to a successful season for the Club which has once again achieved runner-up in the national criterium for female under 10 years, equivalent to the Spanish

Championship.

The winners were Amelia and Catherine Deardon, Marta Serrano, Jasmine Bateman, Claudia Morodo, Teresa Cordoba and Zulema Ochagavías in the girls category and Harry J. Canepa, Guillermo Buffing, Declan Wharton, Laird Krodelsmith and Nicolas Perez in the men's category.

The veteran winners were Maria Maldonado and Paul Holder, the Club's master.

Miguel Fernández del Saz won the special prize for Sporting Merit,

a champion of the Club who was honored for his dedication, effort and honesty in teaching this noble sport, a recognition to which all the Club members, teachers and families were united.

These awards reward the great effort, consistency and fair play of these fencers and augur well for a great current season in which it will compete at international level.

Campus de Baloncesto Navidad 2016 El mes de diciembre ya llegó y desde el área de Deportes y el Club Deportivo Manilva Basket Base ya preparan una nueva edición del “Campus de baloncesto Navidad 2016” Según la Delegación de Juventud y Deportes, dirigida por Agustín Vargas, el campamento se desarrollará del 27 al 30 de diciembre y del 3 al 5 de enero

próximos.

Como siempre, las actividades se llevarán a cabo en el Complejo deportivo de Las Viñas en horario de nueve de la mañana a dos de la tarde.

Esta iniciativa está destinada a chicos y chicas de entre tres y dieciocho años de edad. El precio de inscripción es de 35 euros.

Christmas 2016 Basketball Campus December is here and Manilva’s Sports department and the Manilva Basket Base Sports Club are already preparing a new edition of the "Christmas 2016 Basketball Campus" According to the Youth and Sports department, directed by Agustín Vargas, the camp will be held from December 27 to 30 and from

January 3 to 5.

As always, the activities will be carried out at the Las Viñas Sports Complex from 9 am to 2 pm.
