Bienvenido a la edición de febrero de The Resident. ¡Bien! El año está en marcha y la vida continúa ahora que Boris ha “hecho Brexit”, ¡sí, claro! Aún así, al menos si las cosas salen según lo planeado, aquellos de nosotros con residencia permanente deberíamos tener al menos poco más que pequeños inconvenientes burocráticos con los que lidiar, pero no soy alguien que canta victoria antes de tiempo, así que veamos cómo funcionan las cosas. Pasando a cosas más felices este mes se inicia la temporada de Carnaval con muchos de nuestros pueblos disfrutando de un inicio lleno de color a la Cuaresma. El Carnaval está marcado por desfiles y las tradicionales actuaciones de las chirigotas y sus satíricas canciones, de las que no se libran ningún político, famoso y autoridad. Para aquellos que deseen la mejor experiencia de Carnaval, Cádiz es el lugar. Además a finales de este mes se celebra el Día de Andalucía, una fiesta regional que celebra el referéndum de 1980 por el que se votó de forma mayoritaria por el Estatuto de la Autonomía. www.theresident.eu Welcome to the February edition of The Resident. Well! The year is well under way and life moves on now that Boris has “got Brexit done”, yeah right! Still at least if things go as planned those of us with permanent residency should at least have little more than minor bureaucratic inconveniences to deal with, but I’m not one to count my chickens until they’re hatched, so let’s just see how things pan out this year. On happier thoughts this month sees the beginning of Carnival season with many of our local towns and villagers enjoying this colourful start to Lent. Carnival is marked by processions and the traditional performances by chirigotas, satirical music groups, something like a cross between barbershop and Monty Python, to whom no politician, celebrity or figure of authority is safe from their caustic wit. For those of you who would like to experience the ultimate Carnival experience then a trip to Cadiz, where the whole city stops for Carnival. Another celebration at the end of this month is Andalucia Day, a regional holiday celebrating the referendum in 1980 in which the people of Andalucia overwhelmingly voted for the Statute of Autonomy. Comienzan en Casares Costa la cimentación para la instalación del puente peatonal de Arroyo de La Jordana Ayer comenzaron en el litoral de Casares los trabajos de pilotaje para la instalación de un puente peatonal en Arroyo La Jordana. Unos trabajos que complementan la estructura de madera que se está construyendo en fábrica, como ha informado la teniente de Alcalde de Casares Costa, Antonia Pineda, que junto al concejal Jorge Jiménez y técnicos municipales mantuvieron el pasado viernes una reunión in situ con responsables de la empresa adjudicataria del proyecto de construcción, “Urinci S.L.”. Las obras de cimentación se van a completar con la instalación de un puente peatonal de 30 metros de luz y 2,40 metros de ancho, sobre el cauce del Arroyo de la

Jordana. Una estructura que va a comunicar peatonalmente el sendero existente hacia la Torre de la Sal con el paseo construido el pasado año de Casares del Mar, hasta el término municipal de Estepona, y que estará conectado también con el fondo de saco del vial de la urbanización Perla de la Bahía. El proyecto tiene un importe 161.976,54 euros, y se realiza dentro de la Senda Litoral de Diputación de Málaga. Tiene como objeto mejorar la accesibilidad del entorno, dando continuidad de tránsito a la costa con un corredor marítimo a lo largo de todo el litoral. Los trabajos tienen un plazo de ejecución de 3 meses por lo que desde el Ayuntamiento

de Casares se confía que se pueda disfrutar del mismo esta próxima primavera, como manifiesta la teniente de alcalde de Costa, que se ha referido a también la instalación otro puente similar sobre el Arroyo de la Parrilla. Con el puente de Arroyo Parrilla, que está pendiente de los permisos de la JJAA, se trata de sustituir el destruido por el temporal de lluvias de diciembre de 2016. Antonia Pineda ha dicho que sí Diputación no lo construye dentro de la Senda Litoral lo hará el Ayuntamiento de Casares, para lo que ya tiene librado los presupuestos y para cuya autorización el alcalde Pepe Carrasco tiene una cita concertada en la Consejería de Medio Ambiente.

Abre el plazo de inscripción para el concurso de disfraces de adultos del Carnaval de Casares que se celebra el 7 de marzo Mañana abre el plazo de inscripción para el concurso de carnaval de adultos de Casares que se celebra el próximo sábado 7 de marzo. Como en ediciones anteriores habrá tres modalidades, grupos, parejas e individuales. Los interesados en participar en este certamen deben inscribirse en la Casa Natal de Blas Infante desde el 7 de febrero al 3 de marzo. Todos los inscritos participarán en un pasacalle que saldrá

desde el Peñón Roao a las 22.30, después podrán realizar una pequeña representación de cinco minutos en la Plaza de España. El orden de las actuaciones será establecido mediante un sorteo que se realizará en Radio Casares el 5 de marzo a las 13.00 horas. Asimismo, los participantes que quieran solicitar música para sus actuaciones deben comunicarlo en Radio Casares en horario de 9 a 11.30 y de 13 a 15 horas.

Casares celebrará su carnaval el sábado 7 de marzo. Al igual que el pasado año el Carnaval de Casares va a contar con fiestas para diferentes edades. Los más pequeños podrán disfrutar de la fiesta desde las 12 del mediodía, a las 8 de la tarde se van a programar actividades para preadolescentes, y por la noche desde las 10.30 el concurso de disfraces y la fiesta para adultos.

The foundations are going in for the Arroyo de La Jordana pedestrian bridge Pilot work for the installation of a pedestrian bridge in Arroyo La Jordana began on the coast of Casares. Some works that complement the wooden structure that is being built in the factory, as reported by the deputy mayor of Casares Costa, Antonia Pineda, who along with the councilor Jorge Jiménez and municipal technicians held a meeting on Friday with officials of the company awarded the construction project, "Urinci SL". La Escuela Municipal de Paddle Surf comienza a funcionar en marzo La Concejalía de Deportes de Casares ha puesto en marcha en colaboración con la empresa Chill The Wave una Escuela Municipal de Paddel Surf que ofrecerá clases para todas las edades a partir de los 8 años, en las que además se ofrecerán nociones sobre otros aspectos como la alimentación saludable o las mareas. La matrícula para esta escuela tiene un precio de 20 euros y las cuotas mensuales serán de 10 euros para empadronados y

20 para los no empadronados. La Escuela aportará las tablas de pádel sur y los alumnos tendrán que llevar su propio neopreno. Los interesados pueden inscribirse hasta el 15 de Febrero en el Gimnasio Municipal en Casares, o en las tenencias de Alcaldía de Casares Costa y Secadero. La escuela está destinada a personas de todas las edades, pero los niños deben ser mayores de 8 años.

Nace el Centro Intercultural Casares Costa Un grupo de vecinos de Casares Costa ha creado la asociación Centro Intercultural Casares Costa con el objetivo de asesorar a los extranjeros que llegan al municipio en los trámites burocráticos necesarios para comenzar a vivir en la zona. Además, el colectivo pretende fomentar la integración de los nuevos vecinos con el resto de residentes a través de actividades culturales y lúdicas. El concejal de Casares Costa, Jorge Jiménez, ha recibido esta mañana a la presidenta de la nueva

asociación, Eva Durán, quien ha trasladado sus inquietudes y objetivos. Entre los proyectos que quieren poner en marcha a corto plazo destacan las salidas culturales o el cine de verano en distintos idiomas. Con esta asociación ya son tres los nuevos colectivos vecinales que han surgido en el núcleo costero en los últimos meses, aspecto que pone de manifiesto el crecimiento demográfico que está experimentando la costa casareña.

The Casares Costa Intercultural Centre is born A group of residents of Casares Costa have created the Casares Costa Intercultural Centre Association with the aim of advising foreigners who arrive in the municipality about the bureaucratic procedures necessary for living in the area. In addition, the group intends to encourage the integration of new residents with the rest of the community through cultural and recreational activities. The Councillor for Casares Costa, Jorge Jiménez, recently met the

president of the new association, Eva Durán, who has communicated her concerns and objectives. Among the projects that they want to implement in the short term, cultural outings or summer cinema in different languages are at the top of the list. This brings to three the number of new neighbourhood groups that have emerged in the coastal nucleus in recent months, an aspect that highlights the demographic growth that the coast of Casares is experiencing.

Two additions to the Collection of field guides with the publication of a guide on medicinal plants and another for the use of natural resources

The collection of Field Guides, edited by the Casares Department of Environment continues to expand. Councilwoman Noelia Rodríguez, together with the municipal technician who coordinates the collection, presented the latest two publications: A guide to medicinal plants that can be found in our municipality; and another one for natural resource use, both with information compiled by the expert in wild plants Ely Lozano The Medicinal Plants Guide includes 29 records of existing plant species in the municipality, "whose ancestral use by generations of villagers are part of our cultural and ethnographic heritage" explains the Councillor for the Environment.

A publication that reveals the richness and diversity of local plants along with useful tips for their use and different forms of preparation The Guide to Use of Natural Resources: Plants, Fruits and Roots of Casares collates the knowledge that has been traditionally used for the application of plants in everyday life, what is known as ethnobotany. It is a publication that aims to disseminate traditional knowledge associated with the sustainable use of biodiversity that has been passed down from generation to generation over the centuries, says Noelia Rodríguez. For this, the guide includes 26 species of plants with indications of use and traditional uses.

Casares Field Guides Collection This brings to seven the number of books published by the Department of Environment in its collection of Field Guides of the municipality. Already published are guides on the birds of the municipality, edible and toxic mushrooms, coastal plants, species of odonates and diurnal butterflies. Aumenta la colección de guías de campo con la publicación de una guía sobre plantas medicinales y otra de aprovechamiento de recursos naturales La colección de Guías de Campo editada por la Concejalía de Medio Ambiente del Ayuntamiento de Casares continúa aumentando. La concejala Noelia Rodríguez, ha presentado esta mañana, junto al técnico municipal que coordina la colección, las dos últimas publicaciones. Una guía de plantas medicinales que se pueden encontrar en nuestro término municipal y otra de aprovechamientos de recursos naturales, ambas con información recopilada por la experta en plantas silvestres Ely Lozano La Guía de Plantas medicinales recoge 29 fichas de especies vegetales existentes en el municipio, «cuyo uso ancestral por parte de generaciones de casareños y casareñas forman parte de nuestro patrimonio cultural y etnográfico» explica la concejala de Medio Ambiente. Una publicación que da a conocer la riqueza y diversidad de plantas locales junto a consejos útiles para su uso y diferentes formas de preparación. La Guía de Aprovechamiento de Recursos Naturales: Plantas, Frutos y Raíces del Término Municipal de Casares recoge el conjunto de conocimientos que se han empleado tradicionalmente para la aplicación de las plantas a la vida cotidiana, lo que se conoce como etnobotánica. Una publicación con la que se pretende difundir conocimientos tradicionales asociados a la utilización sostenible de la biodiversidad que se han ido transmitien-

do generación a generación a los largo de los siglos, matiza Noelia Rodríguez. Para ello la guía inclu-

Unos cuadernos para las que se ha contado con la colaboración de asociaciones medioambientales y expertos del municipio: como el Grupo Ornitológico del Estrecho y el joven fotógrafo ornitológico Andrés Rojas en la de

aves, y el farmacéutico Mariano Ruedas Martín, la Asociación de Educación Medio Ambiental El Bosque Animado, y la experta en plantas silvestres Ely Lozano para estas dos últimas Noelia Rodríguez ha anunciado durante la presentación que la próxima publicación será sobre productos fitosanitarios ecológicos y métodos alternativos para combatir plagas en jardinería y horticultura. Asimismo, desde el Ayuntamiento de Casares se prepara la reedición de los cuadernillos agotados, el de aves del municipio y el de setas comestibles y tóxicas.

La Escuela de Música de Casares se forma para dar clases a alumnos con discapacidad visual Los profesores de Rock Factory han realizado un curso con la ONCE para aprender las técnicas necesarias para poder enseñar música a personas invidentes. La iniciativa surge para dar respuesta a las necesidades de un alumno con discapacidad visual que estudia batería en la Escuela de Casares. Una profesora de la ONCE, invidente y pianista, se desplazó hasta Casares para impartir un taller tanto al profesorado como

al propio alumno, al que ofreció técnicas para seguir con su aprendizaje. Durante el curso los profesores

abordaron técnicas de aprendizaje para personas con discapacidad visual y la lectura y escritura de partituras en braille.

Casares Music School expands to teach students with visual disabilities Rock Factory teachers have taken a course with the association for the blind - ONCE, to learn the techniques necessary to teach music to blind students. The initiative came about in response

to the needs of a student with visual impairment who studies drums at the Casares School. An ONCE teacher, who is a blind pianist, traveled to Casares to give a workshop to both the teaching staff

and the student, offering techniques to continue their learning. During the course, teachers discussed learning techniques for the visually impaired and the reading and writing of music scores in Braille.

El Ayuntamiento impulsa la construcción Estepona Council plans the de un puente que unirá Cancelada con la construction of a bridge zona de Bel- Air to link Cancelada with the BelEl Ayuntamiento de Estepona Air area informa que se va a construir un puente sobre el arroyoTaraje, al norte de Cancelada que unirá este núcleo poblacional con el área residencial de Bel Air. La teniente alcalde del área de Fomento, Infraestructuras y Turismo (FIT), Ana Velasco, ha explicado que el Consistorio lleva años trabajando en desbloquear este proyecto que será básico para facilitar el tránsito de vehículos entre estas dos zonas del extrarradio. En este sentido, la edil ha destacado que el nuevo puente permitirá comunicar todas las urbanizaciones de la zona sin necesidad acceder a la autovía. Velasco ha señalado que las obras tendrán un coste de 1.895.396,38 euros más IVA y serán financiadas por la promotora que se encarga de desarrollar el sector norte de Cancelada. Las obras comenzarán a lo largo del mes de febrero, una vez que la promotora concluya con la tramitación de la adjudicación de los trabajos y la firma del contrato con la empresa adjudicataria. Las obras incluyen la construcción de un puente sobre el arroyo Taraje de 120 metros de longitud, 16,5 metros de anchura y 8,5 metros de altura. Tendrá dos carriles para el tráfico rodado en ambos sentidos y también una pasarela peatonal. Los trabajos incluyen también el viario necesario para conectar con las calles ya existentes en la zona. El puente

conectará con la calle República Dominicana en la zona de Cancelada y con el camino de Briján en Bel- Air. Esta nueva infraestructura será una mejora muy importante para las comunicaciones de Cancelada. Una vez que esté concluido el puente, se evitará que los conductores tengan que salir a la autovía y dar un gran rodeo para acceder a zonas colindantes que llevan años incomunicadas por la parte norte. Velasco ha destacado la necesidad de estas obras porque contribuyen a poner en valor una zona con gran densidad de población. En este sentido, la responsable municipal ha apuntado que se

están llevando a cabo, en estos momentos, la construcción de varias promociones de vivienda en la zona. Asimismo, ha recordado que el equipo de gobierno trabaja intensamente en la mejora de las conexiones entre las urbanizaciones. Así, el Consistorio ejecutó en la zona oeste de la ciudad una rotonda, a la altura de Arroyo Vaquero, para facilitar las conexiones entre las urbanizaciones de este área, mientras que en la zona más oriental del término municipal se construyó -en la zona de Costalita- un puente sobre el arroyo Taraje y un vial de conexión entre El Campanario y El Pilar, entre otras actuaciones.

Estepona Town Council has announced plans for the construction of a bridge to be built over the arroyoTaraje, north of Cancelada that will link this population centre with the residential area of Bel Air. The Councillor for Development, Infrastructure and Tourism (FIT), Ana Velasco, has explained that the Town Hall has been working for years to unlock this project that will be essential to facilitate the transit of vehicles between these two areas of the suburbs. In this sense, the mayor has stressed that the new bridge will allow the connection of all the urbanizations of the area without having to access the highway. The works will have a cost of 1,895,396.38 euros plus IVA and will be financed by the developer responsible for developing the northern sector of Cancelada. The works will begin during the month of February, once the promoter concludes the processing of the plans and the signing of the contract with the winning company. The project includes the construction of a 120 meters long, 16.5 meters wide and 8.5 meters high bridge over the arroyo Taraje. It will have two lanes for traffic as well as a pedestrian walkway. The works also include the roads necessary to connect

with existing road networks in the area. The bridge will connect with calle República Dominicana in the Cancelada area and with the camino de Briján in Bel-Air. This new infrastructure will be a very important improvement for communication in Cancelada. Once the bridge is completed, drivers will be prevented from having to exit the highway and make a large detour to access adjacent areas that have been held incommunicado for years on the northern part. Velasco has highlighted the need for these works because they contribute to the quality of life in an area with high population density. In fact the Councillor has pointed out that they are currently carrying out the construction of several housing developments in the area. She also reminded us that the government team is working hard to improve the connections between urbanizations. Thus, the Town Hall has built a roundabout in the western part of the town, at the Arroyo Vaquero, to facilitate connections between the urbanizations of this area, while in the easternmost part of the municipality it was built a bridge over the arroyo Taraje and a connecting road between El Campanario and El Pilar, among other improvements.

El Ayuntamiento y la Universidad de Glasgow firman un convenio de prácticas en las escuelas infantiles El Ayuntamiento de Estepona y la Facultad de Educación de la Universidad de Glasgow han firmado un acuerdo de colaboración para que alumnas del centro escocés realicen prácticas no remuneradas en las escuelas infantiles municipales. La concejala adscrita al área de Personal y Gestión de Recursos, Estefanía Liñán, ha explicado que con este acuerdo se posibilita que dos alumnas de la Universidad de Glasgow observen en compañía de monitoras y profesoras el funcionamiento de las escuelas infantiles.

Durante su estancia podrán aplicar los conocimientos teóricos adquiridos en su grado de educación infantil. Las dos alumnas estarán realizando prácticas durante toda esta semana. Los gastos ocasionados de viaje, alojamiento y manutención de las alumnas serán costeados por ellas. La edil ha agradecido el interés mostrado tanto por las estudiantes como por la Universidad de Glasgow en las escuelas infantiles municipales de Estepona.

Más de 100 obras se presentan al II Concurso Internacional de Murales Artísticos de Estepona El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha recibido un total de 102 obras para participar en el II Concurso Internacional de Murales de Estepona; un proyecto organizado por el Ayuntamiento de Estepona en colaboración de la Fundación Unicaja. Esta iniciativa, cuyo objeto es favorecer el desarrollo del arte urbano, se desarrollará del 1 al 10 de marzo, permitiendo a un total de 10 artistas ejecutar sus obras en fachadas de edificios del municipio. Además de propuestas procedentes de diferentes puntos de

España, entre los trabajos recibidos se encuentran obras de Argentina, Brasil, Uruguay, República Checa, Canadá, Méjico, Alemania e Italia, entre otros. Este nuevo certamen contribuye a consolidar la Ruta de Murales Artísticos de Estepona, una iniciativa cultural que se ha convertido en un importante atractivo turístico y en una de las señas de identidad del municipio. En la actualidad, la ciudad dispone de medio centenar de obras realizadas en fachadas de edificios situados en diferentes barriadas.

En el marco del concurso, la Fundación Unicaja y el Ayuntamiento de Estepona desarrollarán distintas iniciativas, tales como un programa de guías turísticos desempleados de la ciudad para la ruta de los murales, charlas de los autores seleccionados a jóvenes de la localidad, visitas guiadas a colectivos desfavorecidos, o talleres formativos. El certamen tendrá un primer premio dotado con 10.000 euros y un segundo premio de 5.000 euros.

Más de 120.000 vehículos utilizan la AREME Getting Ready For 2020 nueva ronda norte de Estepona en su primer mes de funcionamiento El Ayuntamiento informa que la nueva ronda norte de circunvalación ha acogido ya el tránsito de más de 120.000 vehículos desde que se abriera a la circulación el pasado 10 de enero. La teniente alcalde del área de Fomento, Infraestructuras y Turismo (FIT), Ana Velasco, ha explicado que según un estudio realizado por el Consistorio esta nueva conexión suma diariamente la circulación de unos 4.000 vehículos en horario de 07.00 a 21.00 horas. La responsable municipal ha destacado lo importante que es para nuestra localidad poder contar con esta gran infraestructura viaria, uno de los proyectos de mayor envergadura de los últimos años, que ha permitido descongestionar de tráfico el resto de vías principales. Así, según las mediciones efectuadas y atendiendo a las horas punta de mayor circulación en la ronda norte, se ha contabilizado la circulación de 322 vehículos entre las 08.00 a las 09.00 horas, 352 de 14.00 a 15.00 horas y más de 700 vehículos entre las 17.00 a las 19.00 horas. Velasco ha explicado que la creación de la ronda de circunvalación, que ha contado con un presupuesto de 7 millones de euros, ha supuesto la construcción de nueve viales, que suman más de 42.000 metros cuadrados de superficie y más de 1,6 kilómetros de longitud. Así, se ha posibilitado la conexión entre el Parque

Ferial, el Auditorio Felipe VI y el nuevo Estadio de Atletismo con la parte norte de Juan Benítez y enlazando la zona más oriental de núcleo urbano. De esta forma, con esta nueva circunvalación se ha mejorado la circulación y la movilidad en la ciudad y se ha creado una nueva ronda norte del municipio, que supone una alternativa a la existente en la avenida Andalucía, uno de los viales de mayor tránsito del municipio. Esta nueva infraestructura ha supuesto una amplia dotación de servicios en el norte de la ciudad, con la instalación de suministros de luz, agua, telefonía, alumbrado público y gas natural, además en los nuevos viales se han creado 455 plazas de aparcamiento gratuito. Asimismo, esta zona cuenta

con casi 20.000 metros cuadrados de espacios verdes y de ocio y con un gran pulmón verde de 3.200 árboles. También, para mejorar la movilidad sostenible dentro de la ciudad, el proyecto ha incluido la creación de 1,5 kilómetros de carril bici que quedan conectados al Parque Ferial y la zona de El Carmen, a través de la avenida Puerta del Mar. La teniente alcalde ha recordado que el Consistorio está trabajando en estos momentos en la culminación del proyecto para ensanchar el vial que une esta zona de Juan Benítez con el acceso a la subida a Peñas Blancas. Esta iniciativa permitirá duplicar los carriles de tráfico rodado y las plazas de aparcamientos.

This has enabled the connection between the Fairground, the Felipe VI Auditorium and the new Athletics Stadium with the northern part of Juan Benítez and linking the easternmost part of the town centre. Traffic and mobility in the town have been improved and provides an alternative to Avenida Andalucia, one of the busiest roads in the town. This area also has almost 20,000 square meters of green and leisure spaces and a large green lung of 3,200 trees. Also, to improve sustainable mobility within the town, the project has included the creation of 1.5 kilometres of bike lanes that remain connected to the Fairground and the El Carmen area, through Avenida Puerta del Mar.

The Foreign Resident Association of Estepona is looking forward to a busy year in 2020. After its revival in 2019, AREME has reinvented itself and got off to a flying start with the endorsement of the Mayor of Estepona, Jose Maria Garcia Urbano, making a visit to their opening night at the American Club Estepona. Concluyen las obras del corredor litoral en la zona del arroyo Guadalobón El Ayuntamiento de Estepona informa que han concluido las obras de construcción de un nuevo tramo del corredor litoral que discurre por la urbanización Riviera Andaluza y tiene 145 metros de longitud. La teniente alcalde del área de Fomento, Infraestructuras y Turismo (FIT), Ana Velasco, ha explicado que esta nueva infraestructura posibilitará un recorrido de 1,1 kilómetros desde el hotel H10 hasta el entorno del nuevo puente construido sobre el arroyo Guadalobón. Las obras han consistido en la ejecución de un tramo de senda litoral con pavimento de hormigón impreso, siguiendo la estética empleada en otros tramos de la senda litoral. Además, se ha colocado una tubería de riego y red eléctrica para la iluminación de esta infraestructura. Este tramo, que conecta el puente más largo de la senda con el paseo del hotel H10, quedará unido en el futuro con el que está proyectado junto a la playa El Cristo. Los trabajos, financiados por la Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental, han sido ejecutados por la empresa CFVC Construcciones SL y han contado con una inversión de

82.857 euros. La responsable municipal ha indicado que el proyecto de unir toda la costa a través de una senda litoral continúa “avanzando a buen ritmo”. En este sentido, ha recordado que, recientemente, el Consistorio ha inaugurado dos nuevos tramos en la zona del Velerín y otro en la zona de Los Llanos. Este último conecta las urbanizaciones Villas Andaluzas con Dominion Beach. Asimismo, está impulsando otros en la parte oeste del municipio, en concreto, en la zona de Arroyo Vaquero, donde se ha proyectado un nuevo puente sobre el cauce de este arroyo que, en estos momentos, está en fase de redacción técnica. Por otro lado, en la zona más oriental, en el entorno de Laguna Village,

se acaba de adjudicar las obras de un tramo de 1 kilómetro de longitud que transcurrirá por la zona conocida como La Morocha. El proyecto del corredor litoral pretende unir los más de 22 kilómetros de litoral de Estepona a través de sendas peatonales con el objetivo de que los ciudadanos puedan pasear y practicar deporte al aire libre. Este proyecto, que se está extendiendo por todo el municipio, está ejecutado ya en más de 18 kilómetros. Este proyecto, sostenible con el desarrollo de la ciudad, permite a vecinos y turistas la posibilidad de transitar por zonas que hasta ahora eran inaccesibles, posibilitando una nueva forma de disfrutar de la ciudad; así como de realizar realizar actividades saludables al aire libre.

La Junta autoriza la ejecución del tramo de senda litoral entre Martagina y Playa Paraíso

La Consejería de Medio Ambiente y Ordenación del Territorio de la Junta de Andalucía ha remitido al Ayuntamiento de Manilva la resolución del expediente de Autorización de Uso y Ocupación en Zona de servidumbre para las obras de ejecución de la Senda Litoral en el tramo Arroyo Martagina-Urbanización Playa Paraíso. Las obras consistirán en la rehabilitación y adecuación del firme de un trazado existente mediante escarificación y aporte de nuevo pavimen-

to terrizo a base de zahorras compactadas y terminando con capa ecológica con áridos y conglomerados naturales compactados. La actuación, que llevará a cabo el citado ente supramunicipal, se completará con la regeneración ambiental del entorno inmediato de la senda mediante limpieza y plantación de especies autóctonas. Además, se prevé colocar una valla cordada a lo largo del recorrido, disuasoria del paso a aquellas zonas que por su valor ecológico es necesario

preservar. El plazo de ejecución dependerá de la Junta de Andalucía, aunque desde el Consistorio se espera que esa lo antes posible. Tanto el alcalde de Manilva, Mario Jiménez, como la concejala de Medio Ambiente, Laura López, se congratularon de esta buena noticia tanto para el municipio, que contará con un trayecto acondicionado en un paraje natural formidable como para la ciudadanía, que podrá disfrutarlo dentro de la Senda.

Programa Cultural del Día de Andalucía El 28 de Febrero se celebrará el día de Andalucía en el pabellón de usos múltiples y en la Calle Mar en Manilva. Para festejar el día de nuestra comunidad autónoma, la Delegación de Cultura, que dirige Alba Jiménez, ha diseñado un programa de actividades que ocupará la jornada completa con la participación de las distintas formaciones de la Escuela Municipal de Música de Manilva, así como la escuela de Danza. A partir de las 12:00 h se llevará a cabo el acto institucional, con la tradicional izada de bandera acompañada del Himno de Andalucía, que será interpretado por la Banda Municipal, el Coro y la Asociación Luisana, que lo hará con lenguaje de signos. Tras el acto institucional, las distintas formaciones musicales expondrán varias piezas musicales típicas andaluzas. También tendrán cabida en

esta festividad, las escuelas de Baile del municipio. Así, participarán la Escuela de Danza perteneciente a la EMMM. Sus alumnas, divididas en distintos grupos, deleitarán al público con bailes típicos de nuestra región, tales como sevillanas, bulerías, alegrías, etc....La escuela de Expresión Corporal de Jessica Quiñones pondrá en escena todos los conocimientos aprendidos durante el curso. La jornada de la tarde comenzará con la actuación del grupo Al Liquindoi, quienes nos harán disfrutar de sus temas de todos los estilos, hasta entrada la noche. The Junta authorizes the stretch of coastal footpath between Martagina and Playa Paraíso The Junta de Andalucía’s Ministry of Environment and Land Management has sent to Manilva Town Council the resolution of the authorization file for Use and Occupation in the easement area for the execution works of the Coastal Path in the Arroyo

Martagina to Urbanization Playa Paraiso section. The works will consist of the rehabilitation and adaptation of the existing route by scarification and and the laying of a path based on compacted gravel topped off with an ecological

layer with compacted aggregates and natural conglomerates. The works, which will be executed by a Junta appointed contractor, will be completed with the environmental regeneration of the immediate borders of the path through cleaning and planting of native species. In addition, it is planned to place a pole fence along the route, deterrent of the passage to those areas that due to their ecological value it is necessary to preserve them. The execution period will depend on the Junta de Andalucía, although the Town Hall expect that this will be as soon as possible. Both the mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, and the Councillor for the Environment, Laura López, welcomed this good news for both the municipality, which will have a proper path in this nbeautiful natural place as well as for the public, who can enjoy the area more comfortably.

Andalucia Day Cultural Programme On February 28, Andalucia Day will be celebrated in the multipurpose pavilion and on Calle Mar in Manilva. To celebrate the day that Andalucia elected to become an autonomous region, the Delegation of Culture, led by Alba Jiménez, has put together a programme of activities with various performances by the Manilva Municipal School of Music, as well as the school of dance. From 12 noon there will be the traditional flag raising accompanied by the Andalucia Anthem, which will be performed by the Manilva Town Band, the Choir and the Luisana Association, which will do so with sign language . After the official ceremony, the different musical formations will perform several typical Andalu-

cian musical pieces. Balance muy positivo de la participación El ayuntamiento responde las demandas de la de Manilva en FITUR Manilva cerraba ayer domingo su participación en la Feria Internacional de Turismo Fitur 2020 y lo hacía con la satisfacción de haber realizado un gran trabajo en el stand de la Costa del Sol, en el Pabellón número 5 de Ifema, en la cuadragésima edición de una feria que se sitúa entre las mejores del mundo. El papel de nuestra localidad no puede haber sido mejor, captando incluso las miradas de medios nacionales como TVE, que en su edición territorial del pasado viernes, iniciaba el resumen desde Ifema con Manilva y su vino, con la repercusión mediática que ello supone. Ese mismo día se presentaba en la sala de exposiciones del stand de nuestra comunidad, el “Pasaporte Hacia Andalucía”, que trata de llevar al turista hacia los diez destinos relacionados con la figura del padre de la patria andaluza, dentro de la Ruta Blas Infante de la que forma parte nuestra localidad. Los visitantes irán sellando este pasaporte en las distintas oficinas de turismo de los

Todos los residentes fiscales en España, es decir, aquellos que viven aquí más de 183 días al año o que tienen en nuestro país la principal base de su negocio deberían estar informados de que, como consecuencia de la legislación aprobada en 2012 para la prevención y control del fraude, si poseen bienes fuera de España por un valor igual o superior a 50.000 € tendrán que presentar en Hacienda el Modelo 720. Esta declaración permite a la Agencia Tributaria tener un control de estos bienes y fondos y asegurarse de que se paguen los impuestos pertinentes. En la página web de Hacienda www.agenciatributaria.es puede encontrarse el Modelo 720 y completarse online. El período establecido para presentarlo es el primer trimestre (desde el 1 de enero al 31 de marzo) del primer año en el que se es residente. Cumpliendo con el pla-

zo evitaremos ser investigados o multados. Los bienes fuera de España que están sujetos a esta declaración pueden dividirse en tres categorías: 1. Bienes inmuebles. 2. Todo tipo de cuentas, inversiones, depósitos bancarios y empresas. 3. Acciones, alquileres, seguros, bonos o dividendos adquiridos o gestionados fuera de España. y, por ejemplo, acciones por otros 30.000€, al pertenecer a categorías distintas y no alcanzar ninguna los 50.000€ no tendríamos que hacer la declaración. Con respecto al número de propietarios, cada uno de ellos deberá presentar una declaración individual, independientemente de cuántos sean y del porcentaje de participación. Por ejemplo, si se posee la mitad de una propiedad con un valor de 50.000 €, aunque su parte no alcance el límite (25.000€) el total de la propiedad sí lo hace, por lo que cada propietario deberá presentar una declaración individual por el total del valor. Es importante tener en cuenta que, aunque esta declaración de bienes y derechos es únicamente informativa y no requiere el pago de ningún impuesto, no presentarla, hacerlo fuera de plazo o con información falsa puede tener consecuencias graves. Por esta razón, recomendamos a los residentes fiscales en España que cumplan con su obligación de declarar sus bienes fuera del país y eviten así la posible imposición de multas, que pueden variar entre los 10.000€ y el 150% del valor de los bienes no declarados. Hay que tener en cuenta también que una vez que hemos hecho la primera declaración no tendremos que volver a presentarla de nuevo en los años posteriores, a no ser que el valor de los bienes en cualquiera de las categorías aumente o disminuya 20.000€ o más. Modelo 720 - 720 Tax Form TAX DECLARATION OF ASSETS OUTSIDE OF SPAIN BY TAX RESIDENTS IN SPAIN All tax residents in Spain, (i.e. Those people living in Spain for more than 183 days a year or those whose main business interest is in Spain), should be aware that as a consequence of legislation approved in 2012 for the prevention and control of fraud, that if they have any assets outside of Spain valued at 50,000€ or more, they are required to submit a 720 Tax Form to the Spanish authorities. This form was created by the Spanish Authorities in order to control assets or funds that people have outside of Spain. This declaration allows the Spanish Tax Office to be aware and to control that appropriate taxes are paid. This declaration can be made online, through the Tax Office`s webpage www.agenciatributaria.es where the Modelo 720 (Statement of Assets Outside Spain) can be located and completed. It must be filled in during the first quarter (from 1st January to 31st March) of the first year of residence, to avoid being investigated or fined by the Spanish authorities. The assets outside of Spain that are subject to this new declaration form fall into 3 categories: 1. Real Estate. 2. All types of accounts, investments, bank deposits and companies. 3. Actions, rent, insurance, bonds or dividends acquired or managed outside Spain. It is obligatory to submit this form when the total value of assets outside of Spain is 50,000€ or more in EACH OR ANY ONE of the above categories; e.g. if we have 2 properties valued at 30,000€ although the value individually would be below the threshold, the total value of both would be 60,000€, thus exceeding the specified limit in that category, and therefore subject to this new 720 Tax declaration. However, if you have a property valued at 30,000€ and say, shares valued at 30,000€, as they are in separate categories and each total value does not exceed the 50,000€ then you would not be required to make a declaration. A declaration must be submitted individually by each owner, regardless of how many owners there are, or the percentage of participation held by each owner, (this is specified later). For example, if you own half of a property valued at 50,000€, although your 25,000€ share is below the threshold, both owners are still required to submit an individual declaration based on the total value of the property. Although this declaration of assets and rights abroad is solely informative and NO TAX is charged, failure to file, late filing or false information could result in serious consequences. For this reason, we recommend that residents in Spain fulfill their obligation to declare their assets outside of Spain, to avoid the imposition of fines from a minimum of € 10,000 to a maximum of 150% of the value of those undeclared assets located outside of Spain. Once you have made your first declaration it is not necessary to present any further declarations in subsequent years, unless any of your assets in any category increases or decreases by more than 20,000€ above the initial value declared. Comunity Matters

¿Cómo ahorrar dinero en nuestra comunidad, es la contratación de un empleado directo, y no una empresa, una opción mejor o peor? Hay dos tipos de comunidades, las que nunca tienen un problema y las que tienen problemas diarios continuos. Lamentablemente, parece haber más del segundo tipo, y debido a esto, debemos asegurarnos de que todas nuestras responsabilidades estén cubiertas, las nuestras como Administradores, miembros del Comité y propietarios. Al elaborar el presupuesto anual para la Comunidad, nuestros clientes siempre quieren que busquemos formas de reducir los gastos. Comparamos compañías de electricidad, pólizas de seguros, instalamos iluminación LED, negociamos con compañías de ascensores, etc. pero el mayor gasto que tiene la comunidad suele ser los servicios de jardinería, mantenimiento y limpieza. Para cubrir estos servicios, la Comunidad tiene dos opciones, ya sea contratar directamente o contratar una empresa para hacer el trabajo. La comunidad tiene capacidad legal para contratar empleados directamente. Esto debe ser aprobado en una Junta General por 3/5 de los propietarios, ya que se considera un nuevo servicio, o puede contratar una empresa para hacer el trabajo. Hay ventajas y desventajas para cualquiera de estas opciones, así que vamos a verlos: 1. Costes: Contratar empleados directamente puede parecer mucho más barato que contratar una empresa a corto plazo, sin embargo, estos son solo los costes directos. A esto debemos añadirles sustitución por vacaciones, sustitución por enfermedad, gestoría, seguridad social, irpf, prevención de riesgos laborales, uniformes, productos y materiales, etc. Digamos que contratar a un trabajador directamente puede ahorrarle el 20% de los costes a corto plazo frente a la contratación de una empresa. 2. Supervisión: para un empleado directo, el Presidente u otro miembro del comité tendría que supervisar al empleado, el plan de trabajo, la prevención de riesgos laborales en el lugar de trabajo, los productos y materiales, etc. Con una empresa, sería su responsabilidad y tendrían que demostrar que tienen los conocimientos y la infraestructura necesarios para hacer el trabajo para el que fueron contratados. 3. Responsabilidades: si el empleado no está haciendo su trabajo correctamente, su jefe es quien debe

asegurarse de supervisarlo y de que haga el trabajo. Si es una empresa, llamas a su jefe, pero si tienes un empleado directo, entonces es más carga para el Presidente, quien no cobra por ello. 4. Finalización de la relación laboral: si el empleado no cumple y se decide que hay que despedirlo, le costará a la comunidad un despido improcedente, para ello puedes estimar 33 días por año que haya trabajado para la Comunidad. Si te trabaja una empresa, y lo habéis incluido en el contrato, entonces podrás solicitarle a la empresa que sustituyan al empleado, y la reubicación seria un acuerdo contractual, sin necesidad de despido. Por lo tanto, deshacerse de un mal empleado te puede costar más, en indemnización y en abogados, que lo que has ahorrado a lo largo de los años. 5. Dedicación: con un empleado directo, podréis construir una relación de confianza con esta persona, pero no hay ninguna razón para que esto no suceda con un empleado que trabaja para un tercero. 6. Voluntarios: en algunas comunidades, un propietario limpia las zonas comunes o hace las labores de jardinería, y a veces lo hace un moroso para pagar su deuda. Esto se consideraría trabajo y requeriría una retribución legal. La comunidad no puede tener voluntarios que hagan el trabajo (no estamos hablando de cuidar las plantas de su jardín o de mantener limpia la puerta), y la comunidad tendría que contratarlos. 7. Al contratar una empresa, la comunidad tendrá menos responsabilidades, pero hay que asegurarse de que la empresa sea legal, solicite regularmente una copia del TC (listado de seguridad social) de los trabajadores y un certificado para asegurarse de que la empresa esté al día con la seguridad social y con hacienda, ya que la comunidad podría incurrir en la responsabilidad si hay deudas con alguno de ellos. Cuando las cosas van bien, todo el mundo está feliz; los problemas comienzan cuando alguien no está contento. ¿Qué sucede si tienes un presidente que está a cargo de todo y él / ella deja la comunidad, y el nuevo presidente no se dedica tanto? Ser presidente es principalmente un cargo sin recompensa, con un sinfín de responsabilidades, y si agrega a sus empleados a la

mezcla, ¡sabemos a quién le va a doler la cabeza! ¿Qué sucede si su empleado está enfermo? ¿Quién

hará su trabajo? ¿Cuánto costará esto? ¿Quién se asegura de que la prevención de riesgos se cumple? ¿Quién es responsable si hay un accidente? ¿Qué sucede si tienes un voluntario que no está contratado correctamente y tiene un accidente? Cualquiera de estas situaciones te puede costar miles de euros.

How to save money in our community, is hiring a direct employee, and not a company, a better or worse option? There are two types of Communities, those that never have an issue, and those with ongoing daily problems. Sadly there seems to be more of the second type, and because of this, we need to make sure that all our responsibilities are covered, ours as Administrators, Committee members and owners. When elaborating the Community’s budget for the year, our clients always ask for ways to reduce costs. We compare electricity companies, insurance policies, install LED lighting, negotiate with lift companies, etc; but the major cost the Community has is usually the gardening, maintenance and cleaning services. To cover these services, the Community has two options, either hiring directly or hiring a company to do the job. The legal status that the community has allows us to hire employees directly. This needs to be approved at a general assembly by 3/5 of owners, as it is considered an increase in services. Or you can hire a company to do the job. There are pro’s and con’s to either option, so let’s elaborate. 1.

Costing: Hiring employees directly would seem much cheaper than hiring a company, in the short run, however, this is only the direct costs. To this we need to add: holiday cover, illness cover, pay slips, social security, tax retention, health and safety at the workplace, uniforms, all products and materials, etc. Say hiring a worker directly may save you 20% of the costs in the short run vs hiring a company. Supervision: for a direct employee, the President or another member of the committee would have to supervise the employee, work

plan, health and safety at the workplace, products and materials, etc. With a company, it would be their responsibility as they would have to prove that they have the know-how and infrastructure necessary to do the job that they have been hired for. Responsibilities: If the employee is not doing their job properly, their boss is who needs to make sure they get their act together and do the job. If it is a company, you call their boss, if you have a direct employee, then it’s another job for the unpaid president. Finalization of working relationship: If you aren’t happy with the employee, you will have to sac them and pay them off. According to the current workers rights in Spain, you can estimate the ‘pay off’ at 33 days pay for every year that the employee has worked for you. If you have a company, you can request that the company changes the employee, if you have included this possibility in your contract with them. So getting rid of a bad employee will cost you more in the pay off and lawyer’s fees than what you have saved over the years. Dedication: With a direct employee you will build a relationship of trust with this person, as will the owners, but there is no reason for this to not happen with an employee who works for a third party. Volunteers: in some communities and owner cleans the common areas or does the gardening, or a debtor in lieu of their debt. This would be considered work and require a legal retribution.

The community cannot have volunteers who do the work (we aren’t talking about tending to the plants outside your front door or keeping your entrance clean), and would have to actually be hired by the community. When hiring a company, the community will have less responsibilities, but do make sure that the company is a legal one, regularly ask for a copy of the workers stamp and a certificate to make sure that the company is up to date with all their taxes, as the community could bear responsibility if there are debts with the Tax man.

When things are going fine, everyone is happy; the problems start when someone isn’t happy. What happens if you have a president who is in charge of everything and he/she leaves the community, and the new President isn’t as dedicated. Being President is mostly an unrewarded position, with endless responsibilities, and if you add your employees to the mix, then we know who will get the headache! What happens if your direct employee is ill, who will do his job? How much will this cost? Who makes sure that health and safety in the work place is adhered too? Who is responsible if there is an accident? What happens if you have a volunteer who isn’t hired correctly and has an accident? Any of these situations can cost thousands of Euros. Esta posibilidad ha surgido de las múltiples sugerencias y demanda en general, que ha tenido la citada área en los últimos meses. Cabe recordar que el patchwork es un tejido hecho por la unión de pequeñas piezas de telas cosidas entre sí por los bordes. El resultado puede ser una manta, colchas, cojines, manteles... e incluso prendas de vestir. Ante todo el patchwork es creatividad. Con los fragmentos de tela se podrá llevar a cabo cualquier obra que tengas en mente. Este arte de unir retales de diferentes colores y tamaños utilizando múltiples técnicas, para llegar a crear distintos motivos y objetos, persigue

la precisión en el trazado, corte y ensamblado de las piezas de tela. Cualquiera podrá desarrollar su propia creatividad sin requerir grandes conocimientos de costura. Estas clases serán impartidas por la profesora de pintura y otra técnicas decorativas Charo Iglesias y tendrán lugar en el Edificio de

Reactivación de urbanizaciones inacabadas Con el objetivo de acabar de construir las urbanizaciones que en su día fueron abandonadas, el Ayuntamiento de Manilva continúa manteniendo importantes reuniones con promotores y grupos inversores interesados en nuestro municipio. Desde el área de Urbanismo, el edil responsable Marcos Ruiz, informaba precisamente de las últimas novedades a este respecto. En esta línea, adelantaba que la empresa Parque Málaga será la encargada de finalizar una de estas construcciones inacabadas en la zona de Martagina. Se trata de un proyecto que contará con 200 viviendas y que llevará de la mano el arreglo, por parte también de la empresa, del vial de acceso de entrada a esta zona, ya que se encuentra muy deterio-

rado. Por lo tanto, los promotores correrán con los gastos de estas labores, que incluyen nuevo acerado o alumbrado, entre otras infraestructuras. El responsable de Urbanismo destaca también que, además de finalizar urbanizaciones abandonadas y que han sufrido actos de vandalismo, estos acuerdos conllevarán la generación de empleo mediante contratación de mano de obra local, así como de empresas de la localidad. Tanto el alcalde, Mario Jiménez, como el el propio edil de Urbanismo, ven fundamental estos acuerdos que vienen a generar empleo y a mejorar la imagen de nuestro término y por lo tanto, en esta misma línea se va a continuar trabajando.

Reactivation of unfinished urbanizations In order to finish building the urbanizations that were once abandoned, Manilva Town Council continues to hold important meetings with developers and investor groups interested in our municipality. From the area of Urbanism, Councillor Marcos Ruiz, reported precisely the latest developments in this regard. Campus de Baloncesto Semana Blanca 2020 La Delegación de Deportes del ayuntamiento de Manilva y el Club Deportivo Manilva Basket base organizan un año más el Campus de Semana Blanca. Coincidiendo con este periodo vacacional, los días 24, 25, 26 y 27 de febrero, los jóvenes de la localidad tendrán la oportunidad de practicar deporte a través de este campamento, que se desarrollará en las instalaciones deportivas del Complejo de Las Viñas. Esta iniciativa está destinada a los niños y niñas con edades

Inversión municipal en el tanatorio para mejorar sus instalaciones El Ayuntamiento de Manilva va a realizar una inversión municipal en el Tanatorio con el objetivo de mejorar las instalaciones y dotarlas de mayor comodidad para los usuarios. Trip to Seville Due to public demand the Foreign Residents Department, led by Laura López, has chosen to extend the trip to Seville to a weekend on March 7 and 8 . The coach will leave at 7.30 am from Manilva Town, at 7.45 am from Sabinillas and at 8 am in El Castillo, while the return is scheduled for 7 pm. ville and the Archivo de Indias. The area that features such outstanding monuments, is none other than the Plaza del Triunfo. This place owes its name to the temple called El Triunfo that was built after the Lisbon earthquake of 1755. At the beginning of the 20th century the Plaza del Triunfo was remodeled and a monument to the Immaculate Conception was placed in its centre, this being one of the most visited places and where our expedition will make a stop to enjoy this important enclave. Fate Foods is the brainchild of Louise Jones and Edward Rodriguez who saw a gap in the market for top quality, nutritious food delivered to your door. Louise, who has a background in health and nutrition started Fate Foods preparing tasty, nutritional food for delivery to busy people which soon expanded into meals of all kinds. Following the success of this venture, Louise brought on board her partner Ed, who with 25 year’s experience, had already built up a reputation as the chef at Finca Thai Fusion, and who introduced Louise’s customers to his repertoire of Thai and Asian dishes. February Lunch Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva, held a lunch for volunteers, friends, supporters and guests at the Thapa Tai restaurant in Estepona Port last Wednesday. 47 people enjoyed a fabulous meal with the staff providing a first class service. A raffle was held, with many 'interesting' prizes, raising funds for ACEyM.

The Love To Sing Community Choir are about to start a new season and are looking for new singers of all voice types. No experience is needed and you don't need to read music, but commitment to attend rehearsals every Wednesday evening at Duquesa Golf Club is important as the choir have a busy and exciting year ahead.

Sobre la Sociedad Benéfica de St George Duquesa La caridad de St George fue fundada a principios de 2013, inicialmente como organización de recaudación de fondos para proporcionar equipos y servicios dentro de la comunidad local para los más necesitados. Como asociación registrada, la Caridad de St George también proporciona un marco legal bajo el cual individuos y grupos pueden recaudar fondos (sujeto a aprobación y debida diligencia). About the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George The St George Charity was founded at the beginning of 2013 initially as a fundraising organisation to provide funding, equipment and services to worthy causes within the local community. As a registered association the St George Charity also provides a legal framework for individuals or groups to raise money under its umbrella (subject to approval and due diligence). The St George Charity raises money through a number of channels including the charity’s two shops in Sabinillas, which opened at the beginning of 2014 and 2016, and the shop in La Cancelada, Estepona which opened in 2017; collection tins in numerous local bars and restaurants; markets; online second hand shop; as well as money raised at a number of events such as the Sabi Street Party, quiz nights, etc. The St George Charity also receives donations from individual or group benefactors for which it is always grateful. The St George Charity makes donations to a number of other charities: Age Concern, Manilva and Estepona, Emaus social kitchen in Estepona, Luisana – Manilva Handicapped Association, AFIMA – Fibromyalgia Charity in Manilva, Danii Children’s Cancer Charity, Open Hands Trust in Gibraltar, Hogar Betania in La Linea, Hogar Marillac in La Linea. The charity has also assisted many individuals with food parcels, prescription glasses, wheelchairs, medical procedures and also helped fund a team of local

firefighters on a mission to Lesbos to provide lifesaving services for refugees in the Aegean. The charity is also currently funding the studies of a local Spanish single mother towards her nursing qualifications. Now in its seventh year the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George’s Christmas Gift Appeal has just been launched. Each year between 400 and 500 children identified by Social Services in Manilva and Casares, and by the Emaus Social Kitchen in Estepona, receive a tote bag full of gifts with a value of at least 10 euros. The charity receives a list of children by age and gender (no names) and from the public’s generous donations the Saint George Charity sources gift items such as books, arts and crafts material, games, etc., appropriate to the age and gender of the children on the list. By purchasing from wholesalers, who also give the charity a discount, it is possible to provide a meaningful gift to all the children. In addition the gift bags are distributed to the children’s parents in time for Three Kings as the charity believes that the only thing worse than a child not receiving a gift during the festive season, is a parent not being able to to give one. Whilst donations of gifts are always welcome, the charity prefers cash donations so that the children can receive gifts of similar quality and substance. Donations can be made at any of the Saint George Charity shops in Sabinillas and La Cancelada, Estepona.

The St George Charity also supports the local community through donations of equipment to sporting infrastructure providing subsidies for disadvantaged youngsters to attend the local karate school, football strips for almost 200 youngsters at the CF

En Sabinillas, una de las tiendas vende ropa, zapatos, sombreros y accesorios de segunda mano, mientras que la otra vende una amplia gama de muebles usados, objetos decorativos, artículos para el hogar, libros, CDs, DVDs, etc. En la tienda de Cancelada se pueden encontrar todos los mismos tipos de artículos que en las dos anteriores además de muebles más grandes como sofás y camas. BuddyUp (Manilva) Community Support Group In response to a tragic situation earlier in the year a number of local residents came together to form the BuddyUp (Manilva) Community Support Group, a ‘befriending’ group to provide support, comfort and a point of contact for people facing a variety of challenges. The BuddyUp group is coordinated by Marguerite Wilkins, and already has a number of members signed up. Working closely with other local charities and organisations, including the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George, Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva, Citizens’ Advice, Cudeca, Social Services, etc., the group aims to provide support and advice for the elderly, disabled, those who have recently lost a partner, single parents, divorcees, the socially excluded, people that are new to the area, in fact anyone who might need someone to talk to or just pointing in the right direction.

BuddyUp volunteers work in pairs and have access to a wide range of resources to call upon depending on the needs of those they are assisting. Saint George Charity Shops The St George Charity operates three charity shops, two in Sabinillas, Manilva and one in La Cancelada, Estepona. In Sabinillas one of the shops sells quality second hand clothing, shoes, hats and accessories; whilst the other sells a wide range of secondhand furniture, decorative items, household goods, books, cds,

dvds, etc. Our shop in La Cancelada sells the same full range of secondhand items as our Sabinillas shops and also stocks larger items of furniture and beds. Thanks to our generous donors there are new items in the shops daily, so visit regularly so as not to miss out on that fabulous bargain.

As well as stocking some great quality items the St George Charity shops also rent out various items such as wheelchairs, walking aids, travel cots, etc. The shop management welcome donations of quality secondhand items, and can arrange collection if needed. We are also looking for secondhand books, especially in languages other than English, to populate are extensive bookshelves. Food Bank The Saint George Charity runs a food bank initiative to help local people who are finding it difficult to make ends meet, and invites people to donate non-perishable goods, such as long life milk, pasta, rice, tinned meat and fish, tinned vegetables, etc., along with toiletries, personal hygiene and cleaning items.

The charity will supplement these items with fresh produce, and will distribute on a weekly basis to a number of individuals and families that have been identified as being in urgent need of this service. LA ARMADURA DE DON JAIME I Un día de Julio de 1220, un grupo de templarios, se detienen en la puerta de una herrería situada en las afueras de Almudévar, para herrar la pata derecha de un caballo que había perdido la herradura. Mientras esperaban, don Guillén de Momtredón, jefe de la expedición, ordenó que cuidasen del niño de unos doce años que viajaba bajo su custodia y, solía llevarlo desde hacía unos dos años en sus correrías tras los moros que invadían las tierras de Aragón y todo el Levante. (El jovencito no era otro que don Jaime I de Aragón. Hacía unos años que había sido liberado de Simón IV de Montfort, por orden Papal y, cedido a don Guillermo para ser educado y formado). Mientras esperaban a que, el herrero terminase su trabajo, don Guillén de Momtredón, escuchó no lejos de allí, unos golpes dados sobre un tas o yunque pequeño. Don Guillén preguntó al herrero de

dónde provenían aquellos golpes y, el buen hombre le dijo que de un taller de orfebrería situado un par de casas más abajo. Seguramente señor, es el mejor orfebre del reino. Sonriendo ante semejante afirmación, pero, picado por la curiosidad, encaminó sus pasos sin dudarlo un momento. Don Guillén entró en el pequeño recinto y miró a su alrededor antes de preguntarle al hombre que, inclinado sobre un yunque daba la espalda a don Guillermo. Sin dar los buenos días (costumbre muy arraigada por entonces entre los nobles de no dar los buenos días o las buenas tardes), el jefe de la expedición dijo con voz potente Dime villano, ¿para quién estás labrando esa armadura tan maravillosa? Sorprendido ante el atrevimiento de interrumpirle en su trabajo, el orfebre se volvió con intención de responder airadamente; pero al ver que se trataba

de un noble, se mordió la lengua y respondió. Esta armadura, señor, fue encargada por un caballero. Es el regalo de bodas de doña Isabel para su futuro marido. Por cierto, señor; mi enhorabuena por las victorias conseguidas allá por el Ándalus. A don Guillén, le agradó que el orfebre tuviera conocimiento de las misiones que su Orden hacía en beneficio de la corona aragonesa. Tengo que reconocer, que esa armadura brilla de manera especial; por los efluvios tan poderosos que emite, cualquiera diría que es mágica. Así que voy a encargarte una armadura de características parecidas. Es para un noble que, aún es un infante, por eso voy a traerlo para que calcules o le cojas medidas, dijo el noble saliendo del taller y regresando poco después con un joven de no más de unos doce años, aunque, por su altura parecía tener unos quince o dieciséis. Una vez que el orfebre le cogió las medidas a don Jaime, don Guillén, mirando al artista le dijo. Dentro de un mes, vendré a por ella, más vale que la tengas terminada y brille tanto como la que estás haciendo. Sin más, don Guillén y don Jaime salieron del taller y poco después, el orfebre escuchó alejarse los caballos dl grupo de caballeros en dirección al Castillo de Monzón. Lo que nunca llegó a saber don Guillén, era que, aquella armadura encargada por él, sería la que tantos triunfos darían, a Don Jaime I en sus continuas luchas contra los musulmanes y la conquista del reino de Valencia.

LUGAR Y MUJER Al principio, deseaba escribir la historia de una mujer francesa, recordando a esa mujer. Se me antojó esa fábula –comprendí que era ella mi musa en cuanto la advertí en la estación del ferrocarril–, pero comprendí que no podía dominar el elixir literario, y se colocó una perdiz poética en mi garganta, así, huyendo de los cazadores sociales, del mundo y de la historia, me acomodé a un relato fantasma. La perseguí hasta el bulevar y vi cómo entraba en ese casino. “¿Dónde está la justicia que reclamo?”, se preguntaba la señora. La sombra de sus mejillas asumía el nuevo enfrentamiento de una noche cualquiera. Yo pensé: “Odio estas historias de mujeres frustradas, víctimas del vicio de los hombres...”. Ella miraba a su narrador. Lamentablemente no era yo sino otro que se me adelantó. Lo miraba mientras conducía su esqueleto al valle de los dueños de la pelambrera. El cronista sonrió. Sabía que esas películas, esos relatos, bien vendidos, eran reales; eran la prolongación de unos y otros siglos de sociedad donde el término femenino debía acabar con esos explotadores que se permitían los logros y los éxitos. Yo personalmente recomendaría que contrates a un profesional para medir todas tus estadísticas (peso, grasa, hidratación, presión arterial) al comienzo de tu régimen para que sepas exactamente cuáles deberían ser tus objetivos corporales y luego usar tu espejo a lo largo de tu progresión en lugar de una báscula.

Tu espejo te dirá más sobre cómo estás remodelando tu cuerpo que la báscula.

I personally would recommend that you get a professional to measure all your stats (weight, fat, hydration, blood pressure) at the beginning of your regime so you know exactly what your body goals should be and then use your ‘mirror’ throughout your progression rather than scales.

Your mirror will tell you more about how you’re reshaping your body than scales ever will. Scales will just show you how much weight you’ve lost so you’ll concentrate on just losing weight rather than reforming and reshaping your body. Your goal should not be to just lose weight, it should also be to gain muscle to replenish the fat loss, you must remember that losing weight means emptying your skin.. this will mean that ‘although’ you will indeed be

slimmer you will also be more (how can I put this eeerrm) well, baggy! ‘Unless’ you weight train and put muscle on to fill your frame.. you should ‘most definitely’ do this along side a healthy diet so you’re (this may sound strange) putting on muscle weight as you’re losing fat weight! So don’t kid yourself into saying “Oh I’ll lose weight first, then go to the gym” because that’s not going to really help and most of the time is rarely achieved! Therefore you will see a slower transformation because you’re not just dropping pounds, so by not using scales you won’t think you’re not doing as well as you should! but ‘you will’ be achieving the results that you ‘think’ you’ll see from just losing weight! When you weight train as well as doing cardio and eating the correct foods and look in the

mirror, you will see a noticeable change and gain the wanted shapes in the parts of your body that you hoped for. You can indeed sporadically use your scales as merely guide/ gauge but your mirror is your best ally Remember this, Your skin is the largest organ of your body, so look after it and replenish it with the substance that will help it maintain its elasticity because once it’s loses it.. very rarely comes back! Unless of course you fill it with fat again! I just thought I’d share this with those who want some advice! May your journey to a healthier and better version you be full of success. Por lo tanto, verás una transformación más lenta porque no solo estás bajando kilos, por lo que al no usar escalas, ¡no pensarás que no lo estás haciendo tan bien como deberías! ¡pero lograrás los resultados que crees que verás con solo perder peso! Cuando entrenas con pesas y haces cardio y comes los alimentos correctos y te miras al espejo, verás un cambio notable y obtendrás las formas deseadas en las partes de tu cuerpo que esperabas. De hecho, puedes usar tu báscula esporádicamente como una simple guía / indicador, pero tu espejo es tu mejor aliado. Recuerda esto, tu piel es el órgano más grande de tu cuerpo, así que cuídala y reponla con la sustancia que lo ayudará a mantener su elasticidad porque una vez que la pierde, ¡rara vez regresa! ¡A menos que, por supuesto, lo vuelvas a llenar de grasa! ¡Solo queria compartir esto con aquellos que quieran un consejo! Llega la época de la orugas Thaumetopoea pityocampa, o sea, la procesionaria, que estas semanas están saliendo de sus nidos de nuevo, ya que el clima se calienta y aproximamos la primavera. Estas orugas podrían estar fuera ahora o es posible que no vayan a verlas hasta abril, dependiendo de dónde se encuentre. Lo principal a recordar es que estén atentos en su búsqueda y que tengan cuidado en zonas donde haya muchos pinos. Mantenga sus mascotas alejadas y no trate de tocarlos o manejarlos. Los pelos blancos con los están cubiertos los nidos contienen una fuerte sustancia irritante y tóxica. Esta forma de pasear en fila es una estrategia de protección que da la impresión de una serpiente para disuadir a los posibles depredadores, como las aves, por ejemplo. Si alguna parte de la fila de las orugas se altera se envía un mensaje a todos los demás y liberan su sustancia irritante, desde los finos pelos que cubren los cuerpos de las orugas, hacia el intruso. Esta irritante no es muy diferente a la quemadura de ortigas, inicialmente, aunque algunas personas tienen una reacción alérgica alta y pueden necesitar tratamiento médico. En el caso de los bebés y los perros este veneno puede ser fatal. Los nidos de esta oruga, al estar lleno de este irritante, las personas que trabajan o que pasan por debajo de los árboles con nidos pueden notar, como mínimo, una ligera irritación ocular y/o problemas respiratorios

debido al polvo flotando en el aire. ¡Algunas personas han perdido un ojo y algunas animales han fallecido debido al efecto de este toxico, en los casos de un contacto más intenso!

El mejor consejo para evitar problemas con ellos será mantenerse alejado de ellos y sus nidos, si usted tiene un árbol de pino con un nido debe buscar la ayuda de un profesional.

Sabinillas - Tel: 656 681 889 Time to remember the procession caterpillars, Thaumetopoea pityocampa, as they are coming out again, as the weather warms up and Spring approaches. These caterpillars are starting to come down from their nests in pine trees now or you may not see them until April depending upon where you are. The main thing to

remember is to be on the lookout and to be careful. Keep your pets away and do not try to handle them. The white hairs are covered with and contain a very strong irritating toxic substance. This marching off in lines is a protective strategy giving the impression of a snake to deter would-be predators, birds for example. If any part of the caterpillar train is disturbed a message is sent to everybody on board and an irritant is released from

the fine hairs covering the caterpillars’ bodies towards the intruder. This irritant is not initially dissimilar to the burn of stinging nettles but it is much more noxious, some people have a severe reaction and may need medical treatment. In the case of young babies and dogs this irritant can be fatal. The nests themselves are full of this irritant, individuals working or passing underneath trees with nests may notice mild to severe eye irritations and/or respiratory problems, in the mildest of cases due to slight irritation from the powder drifting through the air. People have lost an eye and animals have died in cases of more severe exposure! The best advice to avoid problems with them stay away from them and their nests, if you have a pine tree with a nest seek out the help of a professional.

Más de 80 participantes de las principales provincias andaluzas, clubes y colegios de la zona tomaron parte en categorías de menores de 10, 12, 15 años y veteranos. Los muros y almenas del Castillo se poblaron de niños y mayores que disfrutaron no solo de una bonita jornada deportiva sino también de una competición de minizorros con la participación de los más pequeños. Acudieron a la cita anual, ya tradicional desde hace siete años, multitud de participantes desde los 3 años de edad hasta los 83 años de la tiradora más longeva en la categoría de veteranas de

los principales clubes de esgrima de Andalucía. Los jóvenes tiradores del Club “AndaluZía” se alzaron con los principales galardones destacando la victoria de Jan Bade, Adryan Agustín y Mario Roseti en categoría de preveteranos. Medalla de oro para Amelia Deardon y bronce para Catherine Deardon y Luis Gutiérrez en categoría en menores de 15 años, con un meritorio podium para Pedro Jiménez, Rodrigo Fernández, Nicolás Sutcliff y Sofía Martín. Consiguieron su condecoración Anastasia, Antonio, Jonas, Nicolás, David, Pedro, Eduard, Mindy, Guillermo, Licia, Viola, Evan, Zack, Oliver, Mira, Mateo, Alejandro, Rafa, Julio, Manuel, Marcos, Jimena y Christian. Málaga amenizaron la velada con una actuación fantástica de esgrima artística. Jack Sparrow y los Piratas del Caribe visitaron el Castillo haciendo las delicias de grandes y pequeños. Participaron y ayudaron al maestro Alberto Zerrada a organizar el torneo Miguel, Lucía, Ruth, Mario y Phil monitores del club sin los cuales habría sido imposible la organización del mismo. Enhorabuena a todos los involucrados en el evento y a las autoridades que facilitaron la celebración del mismo con una gran asistencia de público y participantes que disfrutaron del monumento y de nuestro municipio durante todo el fin de semana. VII International Fencing Tournament organized by the International AndaluZía Club in Duquesa Castle proves a great success The International Fencing Club "AndaluZía" together with the Manilva Department of Tourism and Culture recently organized the VII Manilva International Fencing Tournament. More than 80 participants from the main Andalucian provinces, clubs and schools in the area took part in under 10s, 12s, 15s and veterans categories. The walls and battlements of the Castle were filled with children and adults who enjoyed not only a beautiful sporting day but also a competition of miniziorros with the youngest participants. cia’s top fencing clubs. The young fencers of the Club "AndaluZía" won the main awards, the highlights being the victory of Jan Bade, Adryan Agustín and Mario Roseti in the pre veterans category. This month has seen the Senior team from CR Estrecho play their last two fixtures of the year and have had an excellent run into It was a great start to the game with Holmes Sotogrande CR Estrecho taking the early lead with a well worked team try finishing in the corner. This early try did not discourage a truly spirited Vitorianos side. Their pressure in defence was admirable and they repelled many Holmes Sotogrande CR Estrecho attacks. Holmes Sotogrande CR Estrecho Ladies v Marbella/Bahia Ladies - 2nd February 2020 Today history was made as the Holmes Sotogrande CR ladies’ team played their first game in the history of the rugby club. A team made of 14 to 16 years old girls led by our only two seniors Lydia and Fatima. They have been practicing since October and for many of them this was the first game in their lives. Their strength, what they have learned, their motivation, their companionship, shone and in the very first minute they scored a try, demonstrating organization, good offense and great tackles to stop the other team. They were fast, making great runs, as beginners they made a few errors but

this was understandable as they have not played together before They played two games throughout the afternoon and Estrecho Ladies won both matches, 25 to 10 and 29 to 5. Parents, friends, spectators had a great time watching the ladies enjoy their time and applying the values of rugby learned inside and outside the pitch; Integrity, solidarity, discipline and respect.
