Me gustaría dar la bienvenida a todos nuestros lectores y desearos un Feliz Año 2017. Tras las turbulencias e incertidumbres del pasado año, muchas personas han metido el 2016 en la lista de aquellos a los que la Reina Isabel II se refería como annus horribilis, pero a pesar de la conmoción del voto del Brexit y la elección de Trump como Presidente de EE.UU., las atrocidades del terrorismo en toda Europa, la lista interminable de famosos que han fallecido y de los cuales todos hemos perdido algún héroe, de las terribles inundaciones que han causado tanto daño a finales del año...sí, a pesar de todo eso, podemos sacar cosas positivas del 2016.

Entre las cosas positivas están las cifras del turismo, habiendo recibido la Costa del Sol cifras de récord de turistas, con los hoteles llegando a ocupaciones que hacía mucho que no se veían y el aeropuerto de Málaga justificando su segunda pista para dar cabida al aumento de vuelos y pasajeros. Este nivel de récord de visitantes ayudó a aumentar las ganancias de los negocios y a reducir la cifra de parados.

Las desastrosas inundaciones de diciembre también tienen algo positivo, aunque los afectados puede que no lo vean: unió a las comunidades, elevando el espíritu de ayuda que a menudo está oculto, con la gente ayudando a las empresas y residentes a limpiar tras las lluvias, y donando comida, ropa y muebles a los que estaban más necesitados.

Muchas personas también comentaron positivamente por la velocidad y eficiencia con la que los concejales locales reaccionaron y la rapidez con que todo volvio a la normalidad. ¡Bien hecho!

En el momento de ir a imprenta, los departamentos locales de turismo se están preparando para la Feria de Turismo FITUR que se celebrará en Madrid del 18 al 22 de enero. Éste es uno de los mayores eventos de este tipo en Europa. El año pasado exhibieron 9605 empresas de 164 países/regiones y participaron 124.659 profesionales del turismo. The Resident enarbolará la bandera para nuestra zona, distribuyendo copias desde el stand de la Junta de Turismo de la Costa del Sol. Más cerca de casa, The Resident ha forjado vínculos con la nueva estación de radio Mix106, que comenzó a retransmitir el lunes 9 de enero. I’d like to welcome all our readers old and new, and wish you all a Happy New Year for 2017.

After the shocks and uncertainties of last year, many people are looking to consign 2016 to the list of those that Queen Elizabeth II referred to as an annus horribilis, but despite the shock of the Brexit vote and the election of Trump as US President; terrorism atrocities across Europe; the seemingly endless list of celebrity deaths in which everyone lost at least one of their heroes; the destructive flooding which caused so much damage at the end of the year; yes, despite all those things their are a number of positives to be drawn from 2016.

Among those positives are the tourism figures, with the Costa del Sol receiving record numbers of tourists, hotels seeing record levels of occupancy, and Malaga airport justifying its second runway with record landings and passenger numbers. This record level of visitors helped boost business earnings and also led to a record reduction in the jobless figures.

The disastrous floods in December also had a positive side to it, although many people affected by them might struggle to see it, but it brought out a community spirit that is often hidden, with people turning out to help businesses and residents to clean up after the waters had fallen, and donated food, clothing and furniture to those in desperate need. Many people also commented on the speed and efficiency with which the local councils reacted and had things back to normal in an astonishingly quick time, well done!

As we go to press local tourism departments are gearing up for this year’s Fitur Tourism Trade Fair which will be held in Madrid from 18 to 22 January. This is one of the biggest events of its kind in europe which last year saw 9,605 exhibiting companies from 164 countries/ regions and 124,659 tourism professionals participate. The Resident will be flying the flag for our area, with copies being distributed from the Costa del Sol Tourist Board stand.

Closer to home The Resident has forged links with the exciting new radio station, Mix106 which began live broadcasting on Monday 9 January, for more information about this great new broadcaster see the article on page 34.

DECLARACIÓN TRIBUTARIA SOBRE BIENES Y DERECHOS EN EL EXTRANJERO PARA LOS RESIDENTES EN ESPAÑA Todos aquellos residentes fiscales en España (aquellos que vivan en España más de 183 días al año o tengan en España la base principal de su negocio) deben saber que a raíz de la legislación aprobada el 29 de Octubre de 2012 para la prevención y lucha contra el fraude, que todos aquellas personas físicas o jurídicas residentes en España propietarios de viviendas u otro tipo de bienes fuera de España cuyo valor sea de 50.000€ o más, tienen obligación de hacer esta declaración ante las autoridades españolas.

Esta declaración puede ser realizada de forma “on line”, a través de la web de la Agencia Tributaria cumplimentado el Modelo 720 (Declaración de Bienes fuera de España).

“MODELO 720” TAX DECLARATION FORM FOR RESIDENTS IN SPAIN WITH ASSETS OUTSIDE OF SPAIN All those tax residents in Spain, (those living in Spain for more than 183 days a year or when Spain is the main base for your business), should be aware that as a result of legislation passed on 29th October, 2012 for the prevention and control fraud, all natural or legal persons resident in Spain who have any assets outside of Spain with a value of € 50,000 or more, are required to submit this declaration form to the Spanish authorities.

This declaration can be made on line, through the Tax Office`s web page www.agenciatributaria.es where the Modelo 720 (Statement of Assets Outside Spain) can be located and completed. It must be filed between January 1, and March 31, of the first year of residence, to avoid being investigated or fined by the Spanish authorities.

The assets outside of Spain that are subject to this new declaration form fall into 3 categories: 1. Real Estate.

2. All types of accounts, investments, bank deposits and companies.

3. Actions, rent, insurance, bonds or dividends acquired or managed outside Spain.

To warrant a declaration the total value of assets should be € 50,000 or more in EACH OR ANY ONE of the categories; e.g. if we have 2 properties valued at € 30,000 although the value individually would be below the threshold the total value of both would be €60,000 thus exceeding this limit, and therefore subject to this new declaration, necessitating the completion and filing of Modelo 720.

However, if you have a property valued at €30,000 and say, shares valued at €30,000 as they are in separate categories and each total value does not exceed the €50,000 then you would not be required to make a declaration.

A declaration must be submitted individually by the owner / s, regardless of their number and the percentage of participation, which would be established later. For example, if you own half of a property with a value of €50,000, although your particular €25,000 share is below the threshold, each owner would still be required to submit an individual declaration based on the total value of the property.

Although this declaration of assets and rights abroad is solely informative and NO TAX is charged, failure to file, late filing or false information could result in serious consequences.

El alcalde obtiene el compromiso de Diputación para la reconstrucción del puente de Arroyo Parrilla Una reunión que se realiza momentos antes del acto en la pasarela del Rio Manilva para que la diputada provincial pudiera conocer de primera mano los daños sufridos por la infraestructura durante el último temporal. Durante este encuentro, al que también asistieron los tenientes de alcalde de Casares, Juan Luís Villalón, Antonia Pineda y Guzman Ahumada, el alcalde, Pepe Carrasco, obtuvo el compromiso de incluir la reconstrucción de la pasarela dentro de uno de los tramos de senda litoral cuya ejecución está prevista en 2017.

Como ya informamos ayer, durante su visita a Casares el presidente de Diputación anunció la inversión de 370.000 € durante 2017 para la construcción de dos nuevos tramos de la Senada Litoral.

Unas actuaciones que están pendientes de autorización por parte de la Junta de

Andalucía.

Se trata de un tramo de 150 metros entre la Torre de la Sal y Arroyo La Parrilla, donde se prevé una inversión de 128.644 euros, y en el que estaría incluida la pasarela peatonal destruida.

El segundo de los tramos, entre arroyo La Jordana y el límite con Estepona, tiene una longitud de 470 metros, y se prevé una inversión de 241.806,63 euros. Este proyecto permitirá crear un sendero peatonal de tres metros de ancho con una zona de vegetación autóctona y recuperar una superficie de playa de más de 2,5 km2.

Desde el Ayuntamiento se ha pedido a Diputación que se incluya en el mismo la pasarela peatonal sobre el Arroyo La Jordana, con 32 metros de longitud, que desde hace años está prevista se financiará a través el Plan Qualifica.

Investigan la pérdida de caudal del arroyo La Albarrá

Se amplían los días de apertura de la Casa Natal de Blas infante Desde el Ayuntamiento de Casares se ha decidido ampliar el horario de esta casa museo con el objetivo de ofrecer un punto de información constante a turistas y vecinos. Los nuevos horarios son de lunes a viernes de 10:30 h a 14:30 h y de 16:00 h a 18:00h y el fin de semana de 10:00 h a 15:00h. La concejala de Turismo,

El Ayuntamiento de Casares y el Grupo de Exploraciones Subterráneas (GES) de Casares están llevando a cabo una investigación para tratar de analizar las causas que han provocado una disminución en el caudal hídrico del Arroyo de la Albarrá, en su curso por el Canuto de Los Molinos en la Sierra de la Utrera.

Según el informe elaborado por el Ges, el curso activo del Arroyo de la Albarrá partiendo de los baños de la Hedionda

se encuentra actualmente completamente seco. La causa de esta pérdida de caudal es un sumidero ubicado en el cauce del arroyo que está absorbiendo el agua e impidiendo que descienda por el cauce.

Las primeras inspecciones en este sumidero, al que han denominado “Sumidero de Albarrá” han evidenciado que existe un sistema de cavernamiento subterráneo de grandes dimensiones bajo el cauce del arroyo.

El objetivo de las investigaciones

del Ges Casares es seguir evaluando el cauce para averiguar hacia dónde se dirigen las aguas de las pérdidas tanto del Sumidero de Albarrá como de los de Las Palomas y de El Estudiante.

La concejalía de Medio Ambiente del Ayuntamiento de Casares, ya había recibido comentarios de algunos vecinos que alertaban de este problema, por lo que se sigue trabajando para dar con el motivo de estas pérdidas destacadas.

The environmental department of the town of Casares had already received comments from some residents who warned of this problem, so it is still working to find the reason for these outstanding losses.

Blas infante Birthplace opening times extended The Casares Town Hall have decided to extend the opening hours for the Casa Natal de Blas infante museum and tourist centre so as to improve its provision as an information centre for both residents and visitors.

The new hours are from Monday to Friday - 10.30 am to 2.30 pm and from 4 pm to 6 pm. Weekends it

will be open from 10 am to 3 pm.

The Councilor for Tourism, Rocío Ruiz, explained that the intention is to make available to visitors a daily point of attention and information, an initiative is in response to the increase in tourists and seeks to improve as much as possible Public services and existing resources to promote tourism.

Continúan las mejoras en los caminos rurales de Casares Hoy han comenzado unos trabajos de mejora en el Camino del Puerto de la Cruz, en concreto en el tramo ubicado en la zona alta de las parcelas.

El proyecto consiste en mejorar el firme del sendero aportando hormigón en las zonas más deterioradas. Además, según ha explicado el concejal de Desarrollo Rural y Diseminados, Nicolás Morales, el camino presenta algunos espacios cubiertos de grava, que también van a ser hormigonados con el objetivo de conseguir un aspecto uniforme y mejorar la circulación de personas y vehículos.

Estas obras, que estarán finalizadas en las próximas semanas, cuentan con un

presupuesto que ronda los 9.000 euros y han sido adjudicadas a una empresa local.

El Plan Municipal de Formación empieza el año con un curso de Jardinería y Paisajismo El Plan de Formación Municipal de 2017 comienza con novedades, el primer taller que se va a llevar a cabo es un curso de Jardinería y Paisajismo muy demandado por los vecinos.

El taller, que será presencial, tendrá una duración de 40 horas, comenzará el 23 de enero y se prolongará hasta el 3 de febrero.

Las clases se impartirán de lunes a viernes en horario de tarde de 18:00 a 20:00.

Como novedad, este curso sólo se llevará a cabo en el núcleo de población que más inscritos tenga, aunque el Ayuntamiento facilitará el transporte al resto siempre que haya un mínimo de 10 personas.

Las plazas para este curso son limitadas y están destinadas a empadronados en el municipio, si hay suficiente demanda se realizará una segunda edición.

Las inscripciones pueden hacerse desde el día 9 al 13 enero, en el Registro municipal del Ayuntamiento de Casares, Tenencias de Alcaldía de Casares Costa y El Secadero, para lo que es necesario adjuntar documentación.

Como viene siendo habitual en los cursos del Plan de Formación, para matricularse en este curso hay que abonar una fianza de 20 euros, de los cuales 5 se devolverán al terminar la formación, por lo que el precio de la matricula es de 5 euros.

Este curso está organizado por las concejalías de Bienestar Social, Educación y Empleo

del Ayuntamiento de Casares y además cuenta con el patrocinio del Hotel Finca Cortesín.

El plan de formación tiene el objetivo de incrementar las posibilidades de acceso al mercado laboral de los vecinos, así como realizar una intervención

más directa con los usuarios del Programa de Inserción Social. La programación de 2017 presenta importantes novedades, como la diversificación de contenidos que abarcarán áreas de turismo, mantenimiento o atención social.

Según Carrasco, la oficina de Cajamar en Casares cumple una función que podría definirse incluso de social, ya que son muchas las personas mayores que cobran sus pensiones a través de esta entidad. En conversaciones durante el pasado fin de semana con los vecinos y vecinas, estos le han manifestado que les crea inquietud y malestar, en especial a los mayores, porque no se ven posibilitados para poder trasladarse hasta la oficina de Sabinillas, que es donde se trasladaría la sucursal. Por su parte, el Banco de España ha respondido que tiene que haber un período mínimo de dos meses para realizar el cambio, período que no se estaría cumpliendo en este caso.

Casares ha puesto en marcha una iniciativa para acoger este verano a doce refugiados y a sus hijos para ofrecerles una acción formativa, con el objetivo de mejorar su calidad de vida y sus opciones para encontrar un empleo.

Este proyecto, destinado principalmente a migrantes de las zonas en conflictos bélicos de Oriente Medio, lo lleva a cabo el Ayuntamiento de Casares en colaboración con la Comisión Española de Ayuda al Refugiado (CEAR) y la asociación Málaga Acoge. Serían adultos y menores que ya se encuentran en pisos tutelados en la provincia de Málaga. El Ayuntamiento destina a esta iniciativa una partida de

5.000 euros que se incluyen en los presupuestos de 2017.

Esta acción está especialmente destinada a mujeres que migran con sus hijos aunque también está abierta a hombres, los migrantes pasarán un total de diez días en el municipio en el mes de julio.

Los refugiados vivirán durante ese tiempo con familias de acogida del municipio inscritas en un registro que se creó el año pasado con el objetivo de ofrecer asilo a personas que llegan a Europa huyendo de los conflictos bélicos de sus países.

En el que caso de que no haya suficientes familias de acogida, el Ayuntamiento alquilará viviendas y las pondrá a disposición de

estas personas. En cuanto a las comidas, los niños comerán en el comedor de la escuela de verano, y los adultos a través del comedor social.

Respecto a la acción formativa que recibirán, la concejala de Cooperación Rocío Ruiz, ha indicado que aunque aún no está completamente cerrado, se están barajando varias opciones entre las que destacan cursos enfocados al sector de la hostelería. Mientras los adultos realizan esta acción formativa, sus hijos estarán en la escuela de verano compartiendo actividades y experiencias con los niños del municipio.

El alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, ha inaugurado ‘Desde el Mar’, la última obra que se incorpora a la Ruta de Murales Artísticos que el Ayuntamiento puso en marcha en 2012 para acercar la cultura a los barrios y espacios públicos. En esta ocasión, el mural ha sido realizado por el artista José Fernández Ríos en tres fachadas de uno de los edificios del Instituto de Educación Secundaria Monterroso, y tiene una superficie de 200 metros cuadrados.

La nueva creación es un trampantojo arquitéctónico de estilo hiperrealista. En él se puede observar un pórtico y al fondo una marina que incluye los todos los elementos que aparecen en el escudo de la ciudad como el mar, los barcos de pesca, Sierra Bermeja o las torres almenaras. El mural se puede observar desde dos perspectivas distintas en las que aparecen las distintas partes de un paisaje contiguo.

En el mural, que ha sido patrocinado por Costasol de Hipermercados S.L, se ha incluido también el nombre del Instituto Monterroso que en 2018 cumple 50 años desde su apertura como centro de enseñanza secundaria en la localidad. De esta manera, se quiere homenajear también a una de las instituciones educativas con más historia del municipio.

El regidor ha señalado que el Ayuntamiento ha apostado por acercar esta Ruta de Murales a los centros educativos con idea de que los más jóvenes valoren la importancia de la creación artística en su formación. En primer lugar, se creó la obra ‘La poda de

la buganvilla’ de José Fernández Ríos en el colegio Víctor de la Serna, y posteriormente se ejecutó el mural ‘Quijote del siglo XXI’ de Curro Leyton en el instituto Puerta del Mar. García Urbano ha explicado que la Ruta de Murales Artísticos se ha convertido en todo un atractivo para los turistas y en un sello propio de la oferta cultural del municipio.

Una iniciativa, que ya cuenta con 35 obras, y que cada vez atrae a un mayor número de visitantes aficionados al arte. A ese respecto, ha recordado que el proyecto cuenta con obras de diferentes artistas y estilos.

Así, además de que Estepona sea conocida como 'El jardín de la Costa del Sol' por su apuesta por revitalizar el casco antiguo y su entorno, también está siendo valorada como un enclave donde la cultura y la creación artística están muy presentes en la vida de la ciudad.

Este museo al aire libre posee obras tan singulares como 'Reflejos del jardín', el mural vertical más grande de Europa realizado por un único artista, o 'Día de Pesca', que se convirtió en el mural vertical de mayor superficie de España, ambas creaciones del pintor realista José Fernández Ríos.

Pero además de estas obras hiperrealistas, hay otras más abstractas como la realizada en madera por el artista residente en Nueva York, Javier Infantes, o que incorporan técnicas más alternativas como el grafiti, tal y como sucedió con el mural elaborado por ‘Nano4814’.

El Ayuntamiento y el SAS firman el convenio para la construcción y puesta en funcionamiento del Hospital de Alta Resolución en Estepona El Ayuntamiento de Estepona y la Junta de Andalucía han acordado avanzar en la construcción del Hospital de Alta Resolución para acercar la atención hospitalaria a sus más de 70.000 habitantes, una población que llega a aumentar hasta las 120.000 personas si se tienen en cuenta vecinos de otras localidades y sin olvidar tampoco el incremento de población que se registra en época estival.

El alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, y el gerente del SAS, José Manuel Aranda, han sido los encargados de realizar la firma de un acuerdo de colaboración, que ha contado con la presencia del consejero de Salud de la Junta de Andalucía, Aquilino Alonso.

De esta forma, se plasman los compromisos que asumen ambas administraciones públicas. Por un lado, el Ayuntamiento asumirá la construcción del nuevo centro hospitalario, haciéndose cargo también de los gastos que conlleve la actualización del proyecto original para adaptarlo a las nuevas necesidades y a la normativa vigente; así como los gastos de urbanización necesarios, tales

como saneamiento, suministro eléctrico, accesos y agua, entre otros.

Por otro lado, el SAS será responsable de la financiación de la dotación y la puesta en funcionamiento del hospital, así como de los gastos de mantenimiento del mismo que se deriven a partir de su apertura.

Tras la firma el alcalde ha afirmado que “Estepona y la provincia de Málaga están hoy de enhorabuena con este acuerdo de colaboración entre administraciones con la finalidad de mejorar los servicios, la atención, y en definitiva, la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos”. En este sentido, García Urbano ha asegurado que “a partir de ahora vamos a trabajar con la máxima celeridad en los trámites necesarios para que los ciudadanos puedan disponer, cuanto antes, de este equipamiento”. Además, ha afirmado que el Ayuntamiento ya tiene consignadas las partidas económicas para asumir el coste de la ejecución de este equipamiento, “por lo que confiamos que en los primeros meses de 2017 se pueda licitar la

obra”.

Por su parte, el consejero de Salud ha manifestado su satisfacción durante la firma del acuerdo y ha agradecido al Ayuntamiento su colaboración en este convenio que va a permitir la construcción de este Hospital de Alta Resolución que dé respuesta a la ciudadanía, “una infraestructura necesaria para Estepona y toda la comarca Occidental de la Costa del Sol que mejorará la asistencia

sanitaria en la provincia de Málaga”.

Se trata, por tanto, de un importante paso para ambas administraciones, local y autonómica, con el compromiso mutuo de aumentar la equidad en el acceso a la atención sanitaria pública de la población.

El futuro Hospital de Alta Resolución de Estepona se sumará a los otros dos centros de alta resolución existentes en la

provincia de Málaga, como son Benalmádena y Guadalhorce.

Esta red de centros que promueve la asistencia sanitaria en un único acto único refuerza la atención hospitalaria que presta la red de 6 hospitales comarcales, de especialidades y regionales con los que cuenta la provincia (H. Regional, H. Virgen de la Victoria, H. Ronda, H. Axarquía, H. Antequera y H. Costa del Sol).

La teniente alcalde del área de Personal, Pilar Fernández-Fígares, ha indicado que las últimas cifras ponen de manifiesto que durante 2016 un total de 685 personas han encontrado trabajo, lo que supone un descenso de un 10,37 por ciento en las cifras de personas paradas.

Esta reducción interanual en el

número de desempleados se ha ido produciendo en la localidad desde 2012, registrándose en 2015 una disminución de 589 desempleados; una bajada de 382 personas en 2014 y una reducción de 666 parados en 2013.

El Ayuntamiento adjudica la gestión cultural de los dos principales yacimientos arqueológicos de Estepona Estepona informa de que ha adjudicado la explotación y gestión cultural del centro de interpretación de la necrópolis megalítica de Corominas, situado en el Parque Municipal San Isidro Labrador, y del centro de recepción de visitantes de la Villa Romana de Las Torres, ubicado en la zona de Guadalmansa, y que cuenta con un asentamiento fenicio, una villa romana y una torre almenara de la época medieval.

El concejal adscrito al área de Patrimonio Histórico, José María Guerrero, ha señalado que la empresaria local, Cristina Ocaña Torcal, se ocupará durante los próximos dos años de la puesta

en valor de los dos principales yacimientos arqueológicos del municipio.

Guerrero ha indicado que, entre los criterios de valoración que ha tenido en cuenta la mesa de contratación para la adjudicación de este servicio, destacan las mejoras presentadas por la adjudicataria para conseguir una mayor difusión y proyección social de ambos espacios. En ese sentido, la nueva responsable del servicio desarrollará una serie de campañas publicitarias para dar a conocer estos yacimientos, instalará paneles explicativos que informarán a los visitantes sobre la historia

Entre otros reconocimientos, el artista recibió recientemente un reconocimiento por su labor con el arte, y un premio de la revista Hércules Cultural, siendo seleccionado con uno de sus dibujos para una de las portadas de dicha revista, que saldrá en 2017.

Daniel Alberto Jameson Saffe es un artista plástico y músico nacido en San Juan, Argentina, en 1975 y reside en España desde 2006. Estudió, entre otros lugares, en la "Escuela de Bellas Artes de Avellaneda", en la "Escuela Contemporánea de Músi-

mascotas y su libertad sin control por las calles del municipio, han dado las órdenes oportunas para que de forma inmediata comiencen las sanciones. Éstas tendrán cuantías diferentes según la gravedad de los hechos.

Los perros peligrosos deberán ir con bozal y en líneas generales, amarrados y con su microchip para ser identificados.

Las ordenanzas municipales recogen que cada dueño será responsable del comportamiento de sus mascotas estén o no con ellos. Está prohibido que un animal ande suelto por el término.

Mario Jiménez trasladó a los agentes que no se puede

consentir que la inmensa mayoría de los ciudadanos se sientan perjudicados por el poco civismo de una minoría y argumentó al respecto: "sabemos que la mayoría de los dueños atienden a sus animales, recogen sus heces y lo llevan atados, y tanto por ellos como por el resto de vecinos, tenemos que sancionar a quien no respete la normativa", finalizó.

Según comentaba la citada edil: "buscamos el bien común, preservar la integridad de las personas, que los animales no deambulen sueltos y que la limpieza prevalezca en el municipio con la responsabilidad de cada dueño", apuntó.

Las obras que se están acometiendo en el municipio marchan a buen ritmo El alcalde de Manilva, Mario Jiménez y el concejal de Infraestructura y Obras, Antonio Barragán, han realizado un recorrido por los tres núcleos urbanos para comprobar el ritmo de las obras existentes y la proyección de otras que comenzarán en breve.

En este año 2017, los responsables municipales confirman la finalización de nuevas infraestructuras importantes que mejorarán el día a día de los vecinos y harán más cómodo su tránsito, el estacionamiento de los vehículos y la organización de zonas que se encontraban mal estructuradas.

Según comentaba Barragán, ya ha firmado una de las últimas certificaciones para que la plaza Ginebra pueda estar al servicio de la ciudadanía en breve. Se espera que en el mes de febrero esté en perfectas condiciones para ser disfrutada. Se ha abierto el espacio y habilitado la entrada y salida de vehículos. Además, como nota importante, los empresarios tendrán un lugar más ordenado con buen acerado y más perspectivas para los negocios.

La reurbanización de la plaza Ginebra adecuará la misma para el disfrute de la ciudadanía, ade-

más de dotarla de 50 plazas de aparcamientos para vehículos.

Se redistribuyen los espacios y habrá una mediana con aceras y áreas peatonales, nuevo alumbrado público con led para la contribución al ahorro energético y el medio ambiente.

El primer edil manilveño y el citado edil también revisaron los trabajos en la rotonda de la Avenida Manilva antes de desplazarse al Castillo de la Duquesa para examinar las reformas en el monumento. Las actuaciones continúan a buen ritmo y servirán para mejorar el estado de una de las joyas arquitectónicas históricas con las que cuenta Manilva.

El recorrido por el núcleo del Castillo fue completo pasando por la plaza de la libertad y volviendo a revisar el cauce del arroyo y la limpieza a la que ha sido sometido. Jiménez y Barragán repasaron todos los detalles a mejorar en líneas generales.

La calle Mar también fue tema de conversación entre los dos representantes del gobierno local ya que se pretende mejorar y que la arteria principal de Manilva pueblo mejore para los vecinos, visitantes y empresarios.

Este tipo de recorridos será frecuente ya que consideran que la inspección de las obras que se estén desarrollando garantiza que su finalización sea un éxito y acorde con lo que se solicita.

IV Manilva Mushing Race El 15 de enero se celebrará la edición de Manilva Mushing Race. La zona de Pinar de Tábanos es el lugar elegido para el desarrollo de este evento organizado por Triatcan y que cuenta con la colaboración de las áreas de Medio Ambiente y Deportes del Ayuntamiento de Manilva.

El día señalado para la celebración de la prueba, la jornada comenzará a las ocho de la mañana con el control veterinario para garantizar la buena salud de los perros que compiten en este evento.

A las nueve se iniciarán las carreras de patín y bikejoring para continuar, a las diez de la mañana, con canicross. A partir de las once de la mañana tendrá lugar la carrera de iniciación en la que podrán participar todos aquellos que lo deseen acompañados de sus mascotas.

Aquellas personas que quieran participar en la IV edición de Manilva Mushing Race pueden

Bonificaciones del Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles El área de Tesorería del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, dirigida por Marcos Ruiz, ha informado que ya se pueden entregar las solicitudes para optar a las bonificaciones del Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles.

Por lo tanto, hasta el 15 de enero del 2017, se puede solicitar la ayuda de un importe a bonificar del 27 % de la cuota líquida del Impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles de Naturaleza Urbana para el próximo ejercicio, así como la compensación del importe de la ayuda económica con el recibo periódico del mismo.

Los interesados deberán aportar fotocopia del DNI/NIE del titular o titulares; Fotocopia del último recibo del I.B.I. del inmueble para el que solicita la bonificación. En el caso de querer bonificarse algún garaje, se deberá aportar el recibo del I.B.I. del garaje, así como el recibo del I.V.T.M. (sello del

coche); Documento acreditativo de la relación de parentesco (libro de familia, acta matrimonial, registro de pareja de hecho…) en el supuesto de querer bonificarse más de una vivienda.

Será requisito imprescindible estar empadronado en Manilva, estar al corriente de los tributos municipales y tener los impuestos domiciliados.

Las solicitudes pueden descargarse en el apartado “documentos” de la página web municipal ( www.manilva. es ) y entregarlas en cualquiera de los registros municipales (Ayuntamiento, Tenencia de alcaldía o Urbanismo).

Manilva - mucho más que playas bonitas La posición privilegiada de Manilva, cerca de la entrada al Mediterráneo, ha dado como resultado una larga historia de asentamientos en la zona que datan de la Edad de Piedra.

En los años recientes, se han encontrado restos de estos asentamientos en cuevas de la Sierra de Utrera, una cresta de caliza que se erige detrás del pueblo. También existe un importante poblado fortificado de la Edad de Bronce que está siendo actualmente objeto de estudio a través de un programa de excavaciones realizadas por expertos europeos.

Durante el periodo romano sin embargo, fue la primera vez que la zona disfrutó de importancia, ya que era la ubicación de la próspera industria del procesamiento del pescado, que exportaba productos, incluyendo el carísimo garum que era muy demandado en Roma. Los restos de la fábrica, una villa y los baños pueden verse en Castillo de la Duquesa, una de las villas costeras de Manilva.

En el siglo XVI, se fundó el pueblo de Manilva, aunque como parte de la vecina Casares, y consiguió su independencia en 1795, creciendo desde entonces. Durante muchos años, las principales industrias eran la pesca, la agricultura y la vinicultura. Los viñedos de Manilva son famosos por sus uvas moscatel, usadas para la producción de pasas y vinos.

Desde los años 70, cuando se construyeron el puerto deportivo y el campo de golf,

el turismo se ha añadido a esta lista, y en los años recientes, Manilva ha disfrutado del estado de uno de los municipios de más rápido desarrollo de la Costa del Sol, duplicando su población residente en los últimos cinco años.

Otra área de desarrollo ha sido el sector empresarial, con el establecimiento de un polígono industrial a solo unos cientos de metros de la salida de Manilva a la autopista A7. También hay literalmente cientos de tiendas y oficinas disponibles gracias al boom de la construcción de los años recientes.

Como todos los pueblos y ciudades españoles, Manilva tiene una feria anual, que en el caso de Manilva se celebra la segunda semana de agosto para

coincidir con la fiesta nacional española Día de la Ascensión el 15 de agosto.

De hecho, Manilva tiene un calendario muy completo de ferias y fiestas, ya sean religiosas, tradicionales o modernas. Empezando con la cabalgata de los Reyes Magos el 5 de enero, le sigue el divertido Carnaval al principio de la Cuaresma; la solemne devoción de las procesiones de Semana Santa; el Festival Internacional de Manilva a mediados de mayo, durante el cual la comunidad internacional del municipio muestra su cultura diversa, su cocina y sus tradiciones; la Noche de San Juan durante el solsticio de verano con su tradición pagana de las hogueras, fuegos artificiales y la fiesta hasta las altas horas de la madrugada; la

celebración de la Patrona de los pescadores, el Día de la Virgen del Carmen a mediados de julio, el popular festival de la Luna Llena en la playa de Sabinillas en agosto, y luego para cerrar el verano la Vendimia en la primera semana de septiembre, un festival que celebra la vendimia de la uva de Manilva. Completa esto con una buena cantidad de santos y romerías y tendrás una agenda muy ocupada de fiestas y celebraciones.

Una de las joyas de Manilva es el encantador Puerto de la Duquesa. Este puerto deportivo también alberga la mayor parte de la flota de pesca de Manilva. Los bares y restaurantes del puerto son ideales para disfrutar del sol, de una buena comida o de unas copas con los amigos, mientras ves el mundo pasar. Por supuesto no debemos olvidarnos del golf, que es una gran industria en la zona. Manilva cuenta con el campo de golf Duquesa Golf Club, diseñado por Robert Trent Jones y abierto

a finales de los 70. El campo recorre la colina del Hacho y tiene unas vistas impresionantes del Mediterráneo, Gibraltar y la costa del norte de África.

Además del campo de golf de Duquesa, existen numerosos campos en un radio de 30 minutos, incluyendo Finca Cortesín y el famoso Valderrama, hogar de la Volvo Masters.

El golf no es el único deporte que se practica en Manilva; de hecho existen numerosas instalaciones deportivas y las autoridades locales se esfuerzan para promover el deporte en la comunidad, sobre todo entre los más jóvenes.

MARIO JIMÉNEZ RODRÍGUEZ MAYOR OF MANILVA Once more Manilva will be present this year in one of the most important tourist fairs in the world, FITUR, where the municipality’s qualities will once again be on display.

As is everyone knows, the municipality of Manilva has sun and sand on offer, with an enviable climate and more than 8 kilometres of clean and healthy beaches. The Town Hall have long coordinated with other areas to invest in the expansion of the services offered to tourists and increase the possibilities for all the people who choose our destination to relax and enjoy a few days holiday.

anilva’s privileged position, close to the entrance to the Mediterranean, has resulted in a long history of settlement in the area going back to the Stone Age. In recent years traces of these early settlers has been found in caves in the Sierra Utrera, a ridge of limestone which runs behind the town. There is also a historically important Bronze Age hill fort which is currently the subject of a programme of excavations by experts from across Europe.

It is during the Roman period, though that the area first enjoyed prominence, as it was the site of a thriving fish processing industry, which exported products, including the highly prized garum paste (a kind of “Gentleman’s Relish”) which was in much demand back in Rome. Remains of the factory, a villa and bathhouse can be found

today in Castillo de la Duquesa, one of Manilva’s coastal villages.

It was in the 16th century that the town of Manilva itself was founded, although a part of the neighbouring municipality of Casares, it gained its independence in 1795 and has grown ever since. For many years the chief industries were fishing, agriculture and viticulture.

Manilva’s vineyards are famous for their moscatel grapes, used for the production of raisins and fine wines.

Since the 70s, when the Marina and golf course were built, tourism has been added to this list, and in recent years Manilva has enjoyed the status of one of the Costa del Sol’s fastest developing municipalities, with a doubling of the resident population in the last 5 years.

Another area of development has

been the business sector, with the establishment of an industrial estate just a few hundred metres from the Manilva exit to the A7 motorway, there are also literally hundreds of shops and office units available thanks to the construction boom of recent years.

Like all Spanish towns and cities, Manilva has an annual feria or fair, which in Manilva’s case is held in the second week of August, to coincide with Spain’s national holiday, Ascension Day on the 15th August.

In fact Manilva has a very busy calendar of ferias and fiestas either religious, traditional or modern. Starting off with the Three Kings cavalcade on the 5th January, then the raucous fun of Carnival around the beginning of Lent; the solemn devotion of the Semana Santa processions during

THE RESIDENT Enero - January 2017 Easter; the Manilva International Festival, around the middle of May, during which the municipality’s international community takes the opportunity to show off its varying culture, cuisine and traditions; the Eve of San Juan during the summer solstice with its pagan tradition of bonfires, fireworks and partying till dawn; the fishermen’s celebration of their patron, the Virgen del Carmen in midJuly, the popular Full Moon Festival on the beach in Sabinillas in August, and then rounding off the summer with the Vendimia, in the first weekend of September, a festival celebrating Manilva’s grape harvest. Throw into that a good smattering of Saints’ days and pilgrimages and you’ve got a busy schedule of partying and celebrations.

Manilva is blessed with 8 km of coastline ranging from rocky coves to broad sweeping beaches, including the Blue Flag beach of Sabinillas-La Colonia. These beaches are kept clean throughout the year, and during the summer months are patrolled by a team of lifeguards and medics.

One of Manilva’s jewels is the charming Puerto de la Duquesa. This sports marina is also the home of the majority of Manilva’s fishing fleet. The Port’s harbour side bars and restaurants provide a perfect haven to enjoy the sun, quality food and drink, and to watch the world stroll by.

Of course we mustn’t forget the golf, after all it is a huge industry in the area. Manilva has the La Duquesa Golf Club, designed by

Robert Trent Jones and opened in the late ‘70s the course wraps itself around the El Hacho hill, and has stunning views of the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and the North African coast.

Along with Duquesa there are a large number of quality courses within a 30 minute drive including Finca Cortesin and the world famous Valderrama, home of the Volvo Masters.

Golf is by no means the only sport practiced in Manilva, in fact there are numerous sporting facilities and the local authorities are very keen to promote sports in the community, particularly amongst the youngsters.

La ubicación privilegiada de Manilva Manilva ocupa una posición privilegiada en la Costa del Sol andaluza, en el extremo suroeste de la provincia de Málaga, donde limita con la provincia de Cádiz.

Manilva tiene una población residente registrada de unos 15.000 habitantes, pero esa cifra aumenta por los visitantes a corto y largo plazo y por los turistas.

Existen tres centros de población principales, que son el pueblo principal de Manilva que está a unos 2 kms de la costa, la villa costera San Luis de Sabinillas (conocida como Sabinillas a secas) y la aldea de pescadores Castillo de la Duquesa (conocida

como El Castillo) a unos 1,75 kms al oeste. Aparte de esto, existen numerosas urbanizaciones incluyendo el puerto deportivo Puerto de la Duquesa, todo lo cual está convirtiendo a Manilva en un pueblo costero muy animado.

Manilva disfruta de excelentes enlaces de transporte con el resto de la región, España y el extranjero. Los recientes desarrollos en la red de carreteras y autovías de la región han hecho que el tiempo de viaje se reduzca significativamente, la autopista de peaje A7 proporciona un excelente acceso a esta red y ha aliviado la congestión en la

carretera costera que detuvo el desarrollo del municipio en el pasado. Como resultado, Manilva está a menos de una hora del aeropuerto internacional de Málaga, desde donde se puede viajar a más de 60 destinos. El aeropuerto ha sido ampliado y mejorado recientemente, incluyendo una segunda pista, que ha permitido gestionar el aumento del tráfico aéreo que ha vivido la provincia en los últimos años.

Manilva está a solo 30 minutos de Gibraltar y de su aeropuerto, que también ha sido ampliado y mejorado con una nueva terminal y más vuelos.

Manilva’s privileged location

anilva occupies a privileged position on Andalucia’s Costa del Sol at the South-western edge of the Province of Malaga where it borders the Province of Cadiz.

Manilva has a registered resident population of around 15,000 inhabitants, but this number is swelled by both short and long term visitors as well as tourists.

There are three main centres of population, these being the main town of Manilva which is approx.

2 km inland; the coastal village of San Luis de Sabinillas (referred to as Sabinillas); and the small fishing village of Castillo de la Duquesa (referred to as Castillo) about 1.75 km to the west.

Apart from these are numerous developments and urbanisations including the sporting marina of Puerto de la Duquesa all of which are turning Manilva into a bustling coastal town.

Manilva enjoys excellent transport links with the rest of the region,

Spain and overseas. Recent developments in the region’s network of roads and motorways has seen journey times reduced significantly, the A7 toll motorway which runs just past the town boundary gives excellent access to this network and has relieved the congestion on the coastal road which had held back the municipality’s development in the past. As a result Manilva is less than an hour from Malaga’s international airport which serves over 60 different destinations. The airport has recently benefited from a major programme of expansion and improvements, including a second runway, which has allowed it to handle the significant increase in traffic seen on the Costa del Sol in the last couple of years.

Manilva is also only 30 minutes from Gibraltar’s International Airport which has also seen an expansion and improvement plan, with a brand new state-of-the-art terminal and increased flights.

Esta comunidad está representada por una amplia gama de nacionalidades con una representación sustancial de marroquíes, sudamericanos, británicos, escandinavos e irlandeses, con otras muchas naciones también ganando posiciones en la lista. Nada muestra mejor la diversidad de la comunidad local que el Festival Internacional anual de Manilva, que muestra la cultura,

El libro cubre diversos temas que influyeron en el crecimiento de Manilva y sus pueblos, como los piratas bereberes y la historia de las amphorae. Hace mucho más que arañar la superficie.

Although Fitur is well known internationally as the largest tourism fair in Spain I feel with conviction that the local trade and commerce should be represented.

I believe that Fitur 2017 is a perfect platform for Manilva to seek out new independent investors and business people who may be looking to either relocate to warmer climates, or for them to simply extend their existing services by opening new offices or outlets for their products or commercial enterprise on the Costa del Sol. Manilva is well placed in the commuter belt for the commercial and industrial areas of Gibraltar, Algeciras and Los Barrios.

From a tourism perspective we are perfectly located close to the tourist hotspots of Gibraltar, Ronda, Marbella and Malaga. Our geographical location places us in a fantastic area of opportunity for all sorts of potential business opportunities for small and medium size companies through to entrepreneurs, investment entities and bigger business.

Manilva is surrounded by, undisputedly, some of the best golf courses and leisure marinas, not just in Europe but the world, with the very best and most consistent and reliable climate on earth.

It is the intention of the Manilva council to make its mark on the Costa del Sol and to be recognized as more than just the last town in Malaga province, on the Costa del Sol, before you hit the province of Cadiz and the Costa de la Luz. To this end and as of 28th December Manilva is now a full member of the British Chambers of Commerce in Spain, one of the oldest and most active foreign trading chambers in the country having been established since in 1908. This move is more than just a sign of the direction we are taking commercially for Manilva, the larger picture is to establish institutional relations with the UK in general where we will be actively seeking to establish multilevel links and partnerships with towns of a similar size to our own across the UK, and further afield in,other parts of the European Union where we have a large percentage of residents represented and living in our municipality.

Manilva has a lot to offer and it’s time to start attracting new business as well as tourism to Manilva.

Manilva, one of the Costa del Sol’s most cosmopolitan municipalities Manilva’s foreign community represents over 40% of the municipality’s registered population.

This community is drawn from a wide range of nationalities with substantial representation by Moroccan, South Americans, British, Scandinavians and Irish, with many other nations also making up the list. Nothing better displays the diversity of the local community than the annual Manilva International Festival, which showcases the culture, customs and gastronomy of these various nationalities.

The local Town Council have recognised the importance of integrating the foreign residents into the local community, creating a Foreigners Department, and appointing Dean Shelton, The Costa del Sol’s first English councillor, to head the department and provide a link with the various other local

government departments.

This department has also developed a programme of activities aimed at introducing the foreign community to Spanish traditions and culture as well fostering integration. These activities include Spanish language lessons, cookery classes, along with excursions to places of interest

Visit Andalucia travelogues are much more than just guide books. They explore and illustrate in graphic colour the subject and the place. They are for people who are not satisfied with what they are told from the top deck of a tour bus or from the guides supplied by the tourist office.

‘The Road to Manilva’ looks at the Municipality of Manilva from prehistoric times to the modern day. It takes you to places within the municipality not normally visited by the visitor from Tartessian – Phoenician settlements to the Roman Baths, still used today. The book covers diverse subjects that influenced the growth of Manilva and its towns such as the Barbary Pirates and the history of amphorae. It does much more than just scratch the surface.

del suelo en el que se cultivan las viñas. El segundo, es un semiseco, producido a partir de las uvas que se han dejado al sol durante dos días. El tercero es un vino dulce de postre, producido a partir de las uvas secadas al sol durante seis días.

Cuando no está supervisando la bodega, Argimiro dirige el museo del vino, un registro completo de la historia vinícola de la zona, todo en español, donde además se ofrecen catas en la pequeña tienda. También espera conseguir una codiciada etiqueta para los vinos de Manilva.

Manilva Wine Although grape vines had been reintroduced to the Manilva area just after the Civil War it is only recently that Manilva has started to emerge from beneath the blanket of Malaga Wine and Malaga Raisins. The Malaga DO region, established in 1933, includes Manilva and the Moscatel grapes grown on the white soil of Manilva contribute to the overall production of Malaga wine, primarily the sweet Moscatel for which Malaga is famous. Similarly the grapes left to partially dry in the sun contributed to the overall production of Pasas de Malaga, Malaga Raisins. Only a limited supply of specifically Manilva wine could be obtained in plastic bottles from local supermarkets; until 2014 that is.

An enterprising local man, Argimiro Martinez Moreno started a business, Nilva Enoturismo SL. Under the Nilva label Argimiro is producing about 6,000 litres of wine per year from the locally

If you happened to notice a large number of people wandering around Sabinillas on the morning of Saturday October 29th, closely observing the architecture and street notices and making notes on clipboards, you might not have realised that this was an ICE Treasure Hunt. After completing this local quiz the answer sheets were carefully marked, as competition was extremely fierce, and the results were announced. The lucky winners received vouchers for meals in local restaurants, and the rest of us are at least more knowledgeable about part of the area where we live than we were before. Our thanks go to Rob Potter and Terry Smith for their hard work in preparing the quiz.

Wednesday November 2nd was the date of our latest mystery tour.

After last year’s unforgettable mystery trip Doug Mitchell, our organiser, had to come up with a new venue and scotch the rumours at the club that this would be worse than the trip to the recycling depot. The first mystery stop was Parque De La Paloma, a very tranquil area situated right in the heart of Benalmádena Costa.

This green oasis is entirely manmade and was only opened in the mid-1990s. Over the years, the park has become something of an impromptu animal sanctuary, with rabbits, peacocks, goats, emus, donkeys and various other animals. Some of them wander around freely and are always a big hit with visitors. After that it was Benalmádena Port for lunch and then some retail therapy.

On Saturday November 5th the Club celebrated its 28th birthday at El Paraíso Golf Club, presided over by our President, Sue Potter.

As you would expect, it was an

evening of excellent food and drink, music and dancing to live music by Mandy and Gerry in convivial company, and there was a raffle of restaurant prizes kindly sponsored by Terry Waite of Blevin Franks. Finally a coach had been organised to take the revellers safely home.

Last Tango in Little Grimley by David Tristram was performed by the I.C.E. Players on the 11th, 12th and 13th of November. Sex puts bums on seats! That was the message of the play-withina-play for four actors - not, you understand, sex of the raunchy and explicit kind, but more in the nudge-nudge-wink-wink tradition of the Carry On films. It was an evening of great fun for members, and we hope too for the Theatre Studies students from Sotogrande International School, who attended the first performance as part of their A Level course. (We also hope their tender young ears weren’t too shocked!) Our congratulations went to the actors, producer and director Julie Wood and to all who provided the technical, organisational and moral support, and we look forward eagerly to their next production!

The search for new places to shop and eat took us to La Linea de la Concepción on November 23rd.

To those who have visited the market there in summer, when

it’s sprawling and bustling and full of the most diverse stalls, it was a little disappointing to find only one street on a blustery and chilly winter’s day, but we still found some bargains among the produce and clothing and rolls of fabric.

From there the coach took us to the Wok Real at Campamento, where we enjoyed an excellent buffet lunch with a huge variety of freshly cooked dishes at a very competitive price.

In December we took a trip to Malaga to see the always spectacular Christmas lights and enjoy the street entertainment in Calle Larios. Christmas activities at the Club included a concert of carols and readings, a lunch at Nellie G’s and a Christmas morning get-together with a Secret Santa.

In January we expect our new disabled lift to be tested and inaugurated, and all our regular activities will begin again on the 3rd. A new group for photographers who would like to contribute to an ICE Calendar for 2018 is starting up on the 20th. Then there’s a Welcome Back Party with music

by Stelvis on the 21st, a ramblers’ lunch (open to non-ramblers too!) on the 25th, and a visit to Malaga Car Museum and/or the sales on the 27th.

Emily recently qualified as a National demonstrator so is sure to be up to date with the latest flower arranging trends, she won a gold medal at Chelsea and is representing the UK at the WAFA Show in Barbados in June this year.

Duquesa Charitable Society of St George

La Organización Benéfica Saint George entrega regalos a cientos de niños este año La Duquesa Charitable Society of St. George, ubicada en Manilva, organizó un año más una campaña para proporcionar regalos a los niños menos privilegiados de Manilva, Casares y Estepona, con un resultado de casi 400 niños recibiendo regalos el Día de Reyes.

En colaboración con los departamentos de Servicios Sociales de los Ayuntamientos de

Manilva y Casares, y del Comedor Social Emaus de Estepona, que identificaron a aquellos niños con más necesidades, la asociación benéfica elaboró bolsas de regalos que se entregaron a tiempo para el Día de Reyes.

El dinero se recaudó mediante donaciones y a través de las tiendas de la organización de Sabinillas.

Este año se ha pensado mucho

en el contenido de las bolsas, con libros, puzles y manualidades además de juguetes estándar.

La respuesta por parte del público fue genial y la organización tiene un pequeño remanente de la campaña que se destinará al proyecto Alimenta a un niño que ofrece desayunos para escolares en el Comedor Social Emaus de Estepona.

This year a lot of thought went into the contents of the bags with books, puzzles and craft items featuring prominently alongside the standard toys.

The response from the public was great, and the charity has a small surplus from the campaign which will be put towards the Feed A Child project which once again will provide breakfasts for schoolchildren at the Emaus Social Kitchen in Estepona.

Spartan swimmers raise 1065 euros for Nyland Knight and St George charities Hundreds of spectators turned out on the promenade in Sabinillas on Boxing Day to watch 18 brave (or foolhardy) swimmers take the plunge in a chilly Mediterranean, in the second edition of the Sabi Spartan Boxing Day Swim.

This year the event raised around 1065 euros, which will be shared

equally by two local charities – The Nyland Knight Charitable Foundation and The Duquesa Charitable Society of St George.

Nyland Knight provides support for the children and women of the village of Kunkujang Keita in The Gambia, including primary schooling, a women’s market, and

self-sufficiency projects; whilst the St George Charity provides funding and assistance for a wide range of local causes in La Linea, Manilva, Casares, and Estepona.

Éste es el tercer año consecutivo que St. George ha contribuido

a esta causa. La organización también proporcionará bolsas de regalos para los niños que usan las instalaciones, como parte de la Campaña de Regalos Navideños del 2016.

Al mismo tiempo, la organización entregó una gran cantidad de muslos de pavo que fueron donados por The English Butcher en el Puerto de la Duquesa.

St George Charity donate 1400 euros to provide Christmas meals in Estepona The Duquesa Charitable Society of St George continued their collaboration with the Emaus Social Kitchen in Estepona with a donation of 1,400 € which provided a special Christmas food parcel for all those families that benefit from the meals they provide.

This is the third year running that the St George Charity has contributed

to this scheme. The charity will also be providing gift bags to the children that use the facility, as part of the 2016 Christmas Gift Campaign.

At the same time the charity delivered a large quantity of turkey legs which were donated by the English Butcher in Duquesa Port.

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain weekly surgery The Duquesa Charitable Society of St George is hosting a weekly surgery by Citizens Advice Bureau Spain every Wednesday morning from 10.30 am to 1 pm.

The surgery will be held at the St George Charity’s new shop in Calle Aurora de Albornoz, Punta Almina, Sabinillas, and is part of the Charity’s community support programme.

If you would like to see one of CAB Spain’s advisers then pop along to the shop on Wednesday morning, although it is advisable to book an appointment as it can sometimes be busy.

All consultations are free but CAB Spain is funded by donations, so if you feel that their advice has been valuable then please make a donation in the tin provided.

Respuestas endocrinas, conductuales y del Sistema nervioso autónomo del perro al trueno Se utilizaron perros de laboratorio y de compañía Un estudio mostró que como respuesta al estímulo sonoro se produce un aumento significativo del cortisol en los perros de compañía, y que, en general, la respuesta conductual es más pronunciada en los perros de laboratorio que en los de compañía.

Los perros son muy sensibles a los estímulos sonoros, especialmente a los fuegos artificiales, las armas de fuego y el trueno, por lo que estos sonidos se utilizan como modelos de reactividad al estrés en dichos animales. Los perros de compañía y de laboratorio pueden responder de manera diferente a los estímulos estresantes, debido a las diferencias en el manejo y a su relación con los seres humanos. Por lo tanto, se estudió* la reactividad de perros Beagle (laboratorio) y perros de compañía con un modelo de estrés acústico agudo, analizando la variabilidad de la frecuencia cardiaca (VFC; valores del intervalo cardiaco), los niveles de cortisol sérico y diversos parámetros conductuales. Se utilizaron ocho beagles y seis perros de compañía sin historia de fobia al trueno.

El estímulo sonoro consistió en un registro estandarizado de truenos durante 2,5 minutos con una intensidad máxima de 103-104 dB. Para evaluar la VFC, los intervalos cardiacos se registraron utilizando un medidor de frecuencia, y posteriormente los datos se analizaron. Los perros de compañía mostraron mayores niveles de cortisol que

los beagles, independientemente del momento estudiado y un aumento significativo de los niveles de cortisol 15 minutos después del estrés acústico, mientras que los beagles no mostraron alteraciones en sus niveles de cortisol en respuesta al sonido. Por otro lado, los beagles mostraron puntuaciones más altas en los parámetros de temblor, esconderse, vigilancia, correr, salivación, huir y sobresaltarse que los perros de compañía.

Estos resultados mostraron que, independientemente del

estímulo sonoro, los perros de compañía tenían mayores niveles de cortisol que los perros de laboratorio. Además, el estímulo sonoro indujo un marcado desequilibrio nervioso hacia el predominio del sistema simpático tanto en perros de laboratorio como en perros de compañía. Sin embargo, el aumento significativo en el cortisol se observó solo en los perros de compañía. Por otro lado, en general, la respuesta conductual fue más pronunciada en los perros de laboratorio que en los de compañía.

Tellington Ttouch, el método a base de telas para que el perro no sufra la pirotecnia Tellington Ttouch. Así se llama el truco que circula en la web y que fue creado por un grupo protector de animales que apunta a que los perros no sufran las consecuencias de la pirotecnia.

El método afirma que es muy eficaz y, entre otras técnicas, hace que el uso de un tipo de vendaje se aplique sobre áreas del cuerpo con especial sensibilidad al animal. Es decir, estas áreas se encuentran en las regiones extremas de su cuerpo como las orejas y las piernas, además del

lomo.

El perro se sentirá más a gusto, seguro y seguro, ya que su sistema nervioso se verá afectado por una mejor circulación, lo que le ayudará a calmarse. Endocrine, Behavioural and Autonomic Nervous System responses in dogs due to thunder Laboratory and companion dogs were studied This study showed that in response to loud sound stimulus there is a significant increase of cortisol (steroid hormone produced by the body) in companion dogs, and that, in general, the behavioural response is more pronounced in laboratory dogs than that observed in companion dogs.

Dogs are very sensitive to sound stimuli, especially to fireworks, firearms and thunder, so these sounds are used as models of stress reactivity in such animals.

Companion and laboratory dogs may respond differently to stressful stimuli because of differences in management and their relationship to humans. Therefore, the reactivity of Beagle dogs (laboratory) and companion dogs was studied with a model of acute acoustic stress, analyzing the heart rate/ beat variability (HRV, heart rate variability), serum cortisol levels and various behavioural parameters. Eight beagles and six companion dogs were used without previously known fear of thunder.

The sound stimulus consisted of a standardized thunder sound for 2.5 minutes with a maximum

intensity of 103-104 dB. To assess HRV, cardiac intervals were recorded using a and data were subsequently analyzed.

Companion dogs showed higher levels of cortisol than beagles, regardless of the time studied and a significant increase in cortisol levels 15 minutes after acoustic stress, while the beagles showed no alterations in their cortisol levels in response to sound. On the other hand, beagles showed higher scores on tremor parameters, hiding, monitoring, running, salivating, fleeing and startling than companion dogs.

These results showed that, independently of the sound stimulus, companion dogs had higher levels of cortisol than the laboratory dogs. In addition, the sound stimulus induced a marked nervous imbalance towards the predominance of the sympathetic system in both laboratory dogs and companion dogs. However, significant increase in cortisol was observed only in companion dogs.

On the other hand, in general, the behavioural response was more pronounced in laboratory dogs than in companion dogs.

Tellington Ttouch, the bandaging-based method to limit dogs suffering from fireworks Tellington Ttouch. This is a technique described on the web and was created by a group of animal behaviourists that aims to at least limit if not prevent dogs from suffering the stresses of pyrotechnics.

The method claims that it is very effective and, among other techniques makes the use of a type of bandaging applied on areas of the body with special sensitivity to the animal. That is to say these areas are located in the extreme regions of its body like the ears and the legs, besides the loin.

The dog will feel more at ease, safe, and secure as his nervous system will be affected by better circulation, which will help him to calm down.

It is also recommended, by the experts, to keep very nervous

dogs in a small place while there are fireworks exploding ,this will make them feel a bit more secure and enclosed. It will also prevent them from escaping from home.

The bandaging, the cloth or the tape, should cover the back and the chest of the animal, forming an 8, ending with a knot in the back. The knot should not be exactly on the column. New Year and New Changes!

Happy New year Everyone, I hope you had some great relaxed times amongst the chaos that Christmas brings.

What I hear so often around the festive times, is how little energy people have, how tired they feel,how fat they feel and often they state that they have had enough of feeling so miserable with themselves, and that next year they are going to make BIG changes to improve everything!

Then, what normally happens is, New Year’s resolutions are made and by Jan 10th they have already been broken.

This month’s article is about getting motivated and staying motivated, these are choices that we have, they are not always easy but without making changes nothing will change,meaning that feeling of ‘enough’ will never leave you and you will feel constantly uninspired.

So, Where do you start?

I encourage people think back to when they felt great, when they had lots of energy, felt healthy and fit.

Now compare that to now and make a note of what’s changed since then.

Most people find they have so little time and

the whole task of making big changes feels so daunting.Even finding the motivation to think about making changes for some is just too greater step.

Set a Goal You need a plan of attack. Don’t think for one second that the vague phrases “eating better” or “being healthier” are proper goals.

They are merely good ideals. Goals need to be specific and accomplishable. Walk briskly for twenty minutes three times a week, lose five pounds by jumping rope for half an hour each evening after work, eat completely plant-based meals two days this week, or don’t buy a soft drink today.

These are specific goals and things you can accomplish. Use them as examples and build your own plan.

Write it Down A goal unwritten is merely a wish. Write it down, cementing what you want to accomplish in visible words. Post that goal somewhere you will be sure to see it every day. If it is somewhere prominent, it will serve as a reminder and give you the fuel and motivation to keep going.

Start Small You don’t have to climb Everest or run a marathon right away. If you set huge goals, it becomes easier to lose hope and give up

too soon. Begin with something small that you can achieve. Once you do, move on to something bigger. Then bigger. Then even bigger! That’s the way motivation works, built upon a ladder of successes until it’s hard to believe you had trouble finding that motivation once.

Celebrate Celebrate each success, no matter how tiny it may seem. Each fulfilled goal is a huge step in the right direction. Do not allow yourself to think that even the smallest success doesn’t have value. It does, and so do you! If your goal was to walk twenty feet to the mailbox each day and you do it, celebrate that and then start on your next goal. Each one is important.

Excited

Use your Imagination Humans have a great gift of creation that allows us to dream up new and impossible things. Harness the power of your imagination to picture yourself succeeding, how you will look and feel. Then use those feelings of success to motivate you. Our brains do not distinguish something imagined or read from reality. Convince yourself of your success and you will be more likely to achieve it.

It’s easy to lose hope and motivation when we focus on the difficult aspects of losing weight, getting fit, or eating healthier. Working out is hard, losing weight is painful, eating healthy means altering habits and addictions. Don’t focus on the work, focus on the results.

Before heading to the gym, think about the benefits and your accomplishments instead.

Have Fun

This sounds like something easier said than done, but really it just requires you thinking about your goal often with the right frame of mind. Read your goal each day and smile, even if you are filled with dread at the thought of continuing or sore from your last workout.

As long as you smile and try to be happy about your goals, the excitement will come, and with excitement comes motivation.

Remember that working out can be fun. Don’t just put your head down and plow through the work outs. Discipline is a good thing, but you need to let yourself play now and again too. Find exercises you enjoy. Run, skip, jump in a pile of leaves, wrestle with your dog, play basketball, soccer, racquetball, whatever, but have some fun.

Forgive Yourself

Read blogs and articles and watch videos from people who have reached their goals.

Feed off their motivation, their excitement, and their encouragement. There are many people who have gone through exactly what you are attempting to do and most are willing to help others follow their lead.

Motivation comes in waves. Don’t beat yourself up if you lose it briefly. Forgive yourself for not going to the gym, not reaching your goal, or not eating as well as you had hoped and then move on. Keep following the advice above and focusing on the positive, and motivation will come back to you again.

Remember, train wiser, not longer!

The Gecko on the Wall The world of golf through the eyes of Calum McGregor Now the festive season has finally finished, the world of professional golf is starting its 2017 season. With the New Year having arrived I am eager to see the progress of the golfers who have swapped divisions. Players who have graduated from the challenge tour will be competing on their rookie European Tour seasons, while seasoned tour players like Spain’s Alvaro Quiros will be fighting their way

back. Players who have just turned pro and earned their cards on the Satellite tours will be hoping to have a great start to their pro careers, but will they be able to continue their amateur form on the pro stage? The season ahead is going to be another for the annals of history and as a golf addict I can’t wait to see it unfold.

In the next week I am going to witness someone get crowned

the Andalusian Amateur Champion, right here on our doorstep at Gaudalmina GC. The following week I will see a new South African Open Champion whilst included in the field of competitors are some good friends.

Players who I have witnessed start their careers a few years ago are going to be looking for their first victory on the Challenge Tour and others are going to be fighting for victories on The

Alps Tour, Mena tour and Euro pro tours amongst others. To say I am looking forward to this new season is an understatement, but to keep me occupied until then I am happy to spend my time caddying for a young Irish Pro Tommy O Driscoll on The Gecko tour as he prepares for his up-coming season on the sunny shores and majestic courses of the Costa del Sol.

Team Ireland invades Casares for the Andalucian Amateur Championship at Gaudalmina golf club Estepona Gaudalmina GC once again plays host to the Andalusian Amateur Championship. The future stars of Europe’s golfing talent have assembled to compete for the crown of Andalucian amateur champion. Players in the field include Junior Ryder Cup player Marcus Svensson from Sweden who is based in Guadalmina and

is tipped as favourite for the event.

Angel Hidalgo, Spain’s amatuer champion is not going to let him have it all his way, nor will any of the other players who are vying for the victory.

Included in the mix, is Team Ireland

who have seven players looking to lift the trophy. Including 2016 Irish Boys’ Champion Mark power, West of Ireland champion Jonny Yates, Two time GB and Ireland member Thomas Mulligan and recent Alps Tour Card winner Luke

Donnelly. Unfortunately they won't be competing against last year's winner Ivan Canterro (ESP) who has since turned pro and will be competing on the Challenge Tour.

residents to enjoy, with the formation of the Manilva Table Tennis Club. Founded by John Ullger with the aim of providing an opportu-

nity for those wishing to practice or take up the sport from scratch to do so locally.

The club meets at the Sabinillas sportshall every Tuesday between 7 pm and 9 pm and currently has two tables, which will be increasing very shortly to five.

John is an experienced coach so don’t worry if you’ve never played as he will soon have up and running.

Full List of Players Announced for Gibraltar's World Pool Masters Pool’s longest running invitational event, the World Pool Masters will take place at the Tercentenary Hall, Gibraltar, from Friday to Sunday 17th – 19th February. Fifteen of the world’s best players, along with the winner of a qualifying event for local players, will contest the Masters for a $20,000 top prize. In total, the prize fund is $80,000.

The event will be broadcast live for 20 hours and, in addition, fifteen 1 hour programmes will be produced for international syndication.

Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be bringing the Masters to Gibraltar. Matchroom have had great success on the Rock with darts and snooker events and I’m sure we will have similar success with pool. All the big names from around the world will be heading to Gib for an action-packed three days. All in all, for any sports fan, the Masters will be unmissable!”

The Minister for Sports, the Hon Steven Linares, said; “I am very excited that we are hosting the World Pool Masters in Gibraltar.

This follows the success of the World Snooker’s Gibraltar Open and Gibraltar Darts Trophy which have already been staged on the Rock. No doubt it will be another world class event that will definitely be enjoyed by all. It is yet another example of our events-led tourism

policy which promotes Gibraltar as an events destination”.

Entrance tickets for the Friday evening and for each afternoon session are priced at £15.

Entrance for Saturday and Sunday evening sessions are priced at £20. An all-session season ticket is £75. Quince de los mejores jugadores del mundo, junto el ganador de un evento clasificador para jugadores locales, se darán cita en el Masters para ganar un primer premio de 20.000 $. El fondo de premios es de 80.000 $.

El evento será retransmitido en vivo durante 20 horas y, además, se producirán 15 programas de 1 hora para el sindicato internacional.

Calendarios Del Circuito Provincial De Bicicleta De Montaña y la Copa Andaluza De Escalada El Club Ciclista de Manilva estará representado en la Gala del Ciclismo Malagueño de 2016.

Esta se llevará a cabo el próximo viernes 13 de enero a partir de las siete de la tarde en el Auditorio Edgar Neville de la Diputación Provincial en Málaga capital.

Un año más se pondrá en valor el enorme esfuerzo realizado por los ciclistas en el pasado Circuito Provincial de BTT de la Diputación de Málaga en las modalidades de escuelas, rally, maratón y media maratón y el Circuito Provincial malagueño de Carretera.

Por parte del Club manilveño, en esta gala se reconocerá la temporada del joven Francisco González, como subcampeón de la categoría junior del provincial de Maratón.

Por otro lado, la Federación Andaluza ha dado a conocer el calendario del XIX Circuito Provincial malagueño de bicicleta de montaña en todas sus modalidades.

El campeonato malagueño de Maratón dará comienzo el cuatro de febrero en Ronda. Recordamos que nuestro municipio volverá a formar parte del mismo el día nueve de septiembre. Además, el maratón manilveño será también puntuable para el

Open de Andalucía.

En cuanto al circuito de media maratón, este arrancará en Frigiliana el día 22 de este mes.

De ciclismo pasamos a escalada, ya que la Federación Andaluza de este deporte también ha dado a conocer el calendario de las pruebas que formarán parte de la Copa autonómica de Escalada en la modalidad de dificultad 2017.

Gracias al esfuerzo de la Delegación de Juventud y Deportes, que dirige Agustín Vargas, nuestra localidad será sede de una de las tres pruebas de la Copa.

De esta manera, el Rocódromo municipal acogerá la tercera y definitiva prueba de esta competición el sábado 25 de marzo.

Las otras dos citas se han programado para los días 11 de febrero y 4 de marzo en Tomares y Arahal, respectivamente.

Para Agustín Vargas, edil de Deportes, es un orgullo que nuestro municipio acoja eventos de este calado, que proyectan la imagen de Manilva a nivel provincial y regional. Al mismo tiempo, ha querido desear tanto al Club Ciclista de Manilva como a la Escuela Municipal de Escalada, una nueva temporada cargada de éxitos.

Calendars announced for the Provincial Mountain Bike Circuit and the Andalucia Climbing Cup The Cycle Club of Manilva will be represented at the Málaga Cycling Gala in 2016.

This will be held on Friday, January 13 from 7 pm in the Edgar Neville Auditorium of the Provincial council in Malaga capital.

This year will see the enormous effort made by cyclists in the last Provincial Circuit MTB of the Diputación de Málaga in the modalities of schools, rally, marathon and half marathon and the Circuit Provincial Malaga Road bear fruit.

On the other hand, the Andalucian Federation has announced the calendar of the XIX Circuit Provincial Malaga mountain bike in all its categories.

The Malaga Marathon Championship will start on February 4 in Ronda. We see that Manilva will become part of it on the 9th of September. In addition, the Manilva marathon will also be scoring towards the Andalucian Open.

As for the half-marathon circuit, this will start in Frigiliana on the 22nd of this month.

From cycling we move to climbing, since the Andalucian Federation for this sport also has announced the calendar of the trials that will be part of the Regional Climbing Cup in the category of difficulty 2017.

Thanks to the efforts of the Delegation of Youth and Sports, directed by Agustín Vargas, our town will host one of the three events of the Cup. In this way, the municipal wall will host the third and final trial of this competition on Saturday 25 March.

The other two appointments are scheduled for February 11 and March 4 in Tomares and Arahal, respectively.

Caddies corner This week I am on the bag of Sweden’s "Little Hammer" Oliver Jacobson at the Andalusian Amateur Championship hosted

by Guadalmina GC. Oliver has a great amateur career to record, winning the 2015 Junior Master invitational in Sweden before going on to win the Copa de communidad

Valencia. In 2016 Oliver won the Spanish U21 Global Junior Golf by 12 shots.

Having watched Oliver compete over the last few years, I am really impressed how much this young man has grown in the last few years. Professional and hard working. Striking the ball brilliantly

and maturely picking his lines around the course.

Oliver plans to use Spain as preparation before heading out to Morocco to test his ability against the players on The MENA Tour in March.
