Editorial Manilva, Estepona y Casares, al igual que los de los 102 municipios de la provincia de Málaga y del conjunto de ayuntamientos de España, eligen el próximo domingo, 24 de mayo, a sus alcaldes y concejales.

Son unas elecciones de las que previsiblemente saldrá un escenario distinto -con más actores participantes- al que estamos acostumbrados a ver en nuestro país. A los partidos que habitualmente concurren a los comicios, se les han unido agrupaciones ciudadanas y otras coaliciones que en muchos casos pueden ser decisivas.

En Manilva y Casares el mapa político puede dar un vuelco importante. Por ejemplo, en la localidad manilveña, Partido Socialista e Izquierda Unida presentan caras nuevas liderando las candidaturas, mientras que el actual alcalde aspira a mantener el puesto con la nueva formación de Compromiso Manilva. Por su parte, Partido Popular y ASM repiten candidatos. La principal duda está en saber si algunos de los partidos obtendrán mayoría absoluta o si serán necesario pactos, y entre quienes, para formar gobierno. Por otro lado, en Casares habrá seguro cambios en el Ayuntamiento toda vez que su alcaldesa, Antonia Morera, no repite. El actual concejal de Turismo, José Carrasco, lucha mantener a Izquierda Unida en la alcaldía, aunque con la duda de ver en que forma se trasladan los resultados de las autonómicas a estas elecciones. En marzo, PSOE ganó tanto en Manilva como en Casares.

Por otro lado, en Estepona, José María García Urbano, aspira a ser reelegido alcalde cuatro años más. En el PP cuentan con esta plaza como una de las que con toda probabilidad se repetirá la mayoría absoluta. Sin embargo, habrá que comprobar si el desgaste que sufrieron los populares a nivel general hace sólo 8 semanas en las andaluzas, tiene ahora su reflejo en estas locales. En principio, la menor concurrencia de formaciones políticas en relación a anteriores convocatorias presume un nuevo mapa político, aunque habrá que analizar en que medida perjudica o beneficia a cada una de las formaciones que se presentan.

En cualquier caso, lo importante es que todos los ciudadanos puedan ejercer el derecho al voto con normalidad y participen libremente en la elección de sus representantes.

Duquesa Drama Society perform ‘Love, Loss, and What I Wore’

Duquesa Drama Society proudly present the play ‘Love, Loss, and What I Wore’ an intimate collection of stories by Nora and Delia Ephron, which they will perform at the Manilva Wine Centre Theatre on 12 and 13 June, from 8 pm.

Directed by Angela Ferguson, who recently won the award for best newcomer in the recent navy drama festival in Gibraltar for her portrayal of Ann Boleyn in the Regina monologues, this is the society's first production, with plans to stage a Christmas pantomime and other productions later in the year.

Tickets are just 5 euros and are available from The Bookshop, Sabinillas. A percentage of the ticket money will go to The Duquesa Charitable Society of St George.

Well they’re here! After what seems an eternity the local elections will be held in municipalities across Spain on Sunday 24 May. Foreign residents who are eligible to vote, those that are EU citizens or citizens of countries with reciprocal agreements to vote, and who are registered on the electoral census, should ensure that they cast that vote. Only by doing so will you be entitled to claim your right to have your voice heard in local council matters.

Don’t vote - Don’t care - Don’t complain.

For those of you who’ve not voted in Spain before there is a Guide to Voting in Spain on page 12 which should explain things clearly enough, remember that you don’t vote for individual, you vote for a party’s list, and whatever you do, don’t mark the paper in any way as this will render it void. Good luck, and I wish your chosen party all the best.

Once the dust settles on Monday it will be interesting to see what we’re left with. In some municipalities it will be business as usual with the incumbent party having been re-elected, in others there could follow weeks of chaos as the horse trading begins to form coalitions. Let us hope the former is the case as it can lead to paralysis of much of the municipal functions if the negotiations become protracted.

On a lighter note the coming weeks and months are beginning to shape up with a whole host of events lined up for your entertainment. The local authorities in Manilva came to the rescue of the Malaga Music Festival who found itself without a venue at the last hour when Mijas got cold feet and pulled the plug. The event will take place over the three days of the 29, 30, and 31 May with an international line up of bands along with some local favourites.

El alcalde de Manilva solicita un incremento de los efectivos de las Fuerzas de Seguridad del Estado en el municipio

D

iego Urieta, alcalde de Manilva, ha asistido a una reunión en la sede de la Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental al más alto nivel en materia de seguridad.

A ella acudieron la presidenta del citado ente mancomunado, Margarita del Cid, el Secretario de Seguridad del Estado, Francisco Martínez, el Delegado del Gobierno en Andalucía, Alejandro Sanz, el Subdelegado del Gobierno en Málaga, Jorge Hernández, representantes de los Cuerpos de Seguridad Ciudadana de la Policía Nacional y Guardia Civil y los alcaldes y concejales de seguridad de la provincia.

En líneas generales se abordó el asunto de la seguridad en el territorio malagueño y se han sentado las bases para que entre todos se aúnen esfuerzos para que una de las provincias más visitadas, con mayor turismo y población sea un ejemplo en dicha materia.

En cuanto a Manilva, el primer edil manifestó su deseo de incrementar el número de

efectivos en la comandancia de la Guardia Civil y que la Policía Nacional tenga presencia en el municipio ya que "contamos con una población empadronada de unos 15.000 habitantes llegando a los 60.000 en temporadas altas", apuntó.

Además del número de habitantes, el término de Manilva cuenta con unas 60 urbanizaciones y un litoral de nueve kilómetros de Costa, además del importante paso hacia el Estrecho y los miles de vehículos que transitan por la

N-340 y la autopista.

Los citados responsables reconocieron que Manilva es un lugar de los más importantes de la Costal del Sol y que por ello se debe dotar de todos los recursos humanos para que la seguridad sea una garantía máxima.

Diego Urieta destacó los avances en materia de seguridad llevados a cabo en el municipio desde que se hizo cargo de la alcaldía, destacando como hito histórico, el llevar a cabo la primera Junta de Seguridad ratificada en pleno.

l Plan de Empleo del Ayuntamiento de Manilva dentro de la Iniciativa de Cooperación Social y Comunitaria del Programa Emple@Joven y Emple@25+ de la Junta de Andalucía cuenta con proyectos de Cooperación Social y Comunitaria que consistirán en la ejecución o prestación de obras o servicios de interés social para el impulso del empleo; se ejecutarán en régimen de administración directa y no sustituirán el personal de estructura del Ayuntamiento de Manilva.

Según informaba el concejal de Juventud y Fomento de Empleo, Marcos Ruiz, el Ayuntamiento ha realizado, en primer lugar, una intensa campaña de difusión a través de la citada área; igualmente se ha contado con la colaboración de Asociaciones y

Fundaciones sin ánimo de lucro, colectivos del tejido asociativo y redes sociales, con el objetivo de que la iniciativa llegue al mayor número de jóvenes manilveños.

En total se han ofertado 42 puestos de trabajo, 24 dentro de Emple@Joven, y 18 en Emple@25+.

It was attended by the President of the joint body, Margarita del Cid, Secretary of State for Security, Francisco Martinez, the Government Delegate in Andalucia, Alejandro Sanz, the Government Sub in Málaga, Jorge Hernández, Public Safety Corps representatives of the National Police and Civil Guard, and the mayors and councillors for security in the province.

In general it has addressed the issue of security in the Malaga area and has laid the groundwork for a joint effort to make Andalucia one of the most visited provinces, with increased tourism and population as an example.

Regarding Manilva, the mayor expressed his desire to increase the number of Guardia Civil, and the

National Police to have a presence in the town since "we have a registered population of 15,000 inhabitants reaching 60,000 in high season," he said.

Besides the number of inhabitants, the Manilva area has about 60 developments and nine kilometres of coastline, and is an important point heading towards the Straits with the thousands of vehicles passing through on the N-340 and the motorway.

Diego Urieta recognized that Manilva is a place of the utmost importance on the Costa del Sol and therefore should be provided with all the human resources necessary to guarantee the highest possible security.

Diego Urieta highlighted progress on security matters in the area since he took over the mayor's office, and also underlining a historical milestone, carrying out the first full Safety Board ratification.

Town council offers 42 jobs to unemployed Youth Manilva Town Council plans, within the Social and Community initiative of the Junta de Andalucia’s Youth Programme Emple @ @ 25 + Emple which includes Social Cooperation and Community projects, the implementation or provision of works or services of social interest for the promotion of employment. They will be implemented under direct management and will not replace the staffing structure of the Manilva Town Council.

As reported by the Councillor for Youth and Employment Promotion, Marcos Ruiz, the Council has first carried out an intense publicity campaign through the said department; having had the collaboration of non-profit associations and foundations, and social network groups, so that the initiative reaches more young manilveños. In total they have offered 42 jobs, 24 in Emple@Joven, and 18 inEmple@25+.

The Mayor of Manilva, Diego Urieta, was very pleased with the positive outcome for unemployed young residents, but stressed "every success we have in the fight against the scourge of unemployment will be small and with this in mind we continue working overtime, so that all our residents may have a decent job and good quality of life."

El 29 de mayo se celebra la Elección de Reinas y Damas El próximo viernes 29 de mayo se celebrará en el Parque del Duque la próxima elección de Reinas y Damas para la feria de Manilva 2015. El acto comenzará a las ocho de la tarde.

Todas aquellas participantes que deseen inscribirse pueden pasar por el Edificio de Usos Multiples de Sabinillas o bien llamar al télefono 952 89 38 38.

También podrán dirigirse al área de Bienestar Social en Manilva, cuyo teléfono es 952 89 70 60.

El horario de atención al público será de ocho de la mañana a tres de la tarde. La fecha límite de inscripción esta fijada para el 22 de mayo.

Las jóvenes que quieran presentarse a la elección juvenil

deben haber nacido entre los años 1993 y 1996 (en el caso de las infantiles antes de 2005) Todas las aspirantes han de estar empadronadas en el municipio.

Las ganadoras de dicho concurso recibirán como premio un traje de flamenca que lucirán el día de

la coronación.

Paqui López, concejal delegada de Fiestas, anima a participar en este evento no solo a las protagonistas, sino a todos los vecinos que quieran acercarse por el recinto y disfrutar de una agradable jornada.

Manilva to elect its Feria Queens and Ladies on May 29 Manilva’s Fiestas Department has announced that the election for this year’s Feria Queen’s and Ladies will be held at the El Duque Park on Friday May 29 beginning at 8 pm.

There are two categories: Juveniles

open to girls born in 2005; and Infantiles open to girls born in 1993, 1994, 1995 or 1996.

The younger category is selected by lottery, with a panel of judges selecting the older girls.

Entry is open to all girls registered

on the Manilva Padron, contact 952 893 838 or 952 897 060 to enter. Closing date for entries is Friday 22 May and the winners will receive a flamenco dress to wear for their coronation and and on other official duties.

La playa de Las Gaviotas y el Puerto de La Duquesa renuevan sus banderas azules La Asociación de Educación Ambiental y del Consumidor, ADEAC a través de la FEE, ha reconocido con el distintivo de bandera azul, a la playa de las Gaviotas en el Castillo de la Duquesa, después de que edil responsable, Antonio Parra, hubiese solicitado tal galardón para esta zona.

La Bandera Azul es un distintivo y un sistema de certificación de la calidad ambiental creado y gestionado por la FEE (Fundación para la Educación Ambiental), en 1987. Esa Fundación está constituida por casi 74 Organizaciones No Gubernamentales una por cada estado participante. ADEAC es el miembro responsable para España de la citada entidad.

La Fundación concede cada año la Bandera Azul a playas, puertos y embarcaciones, que

cumplen los criterios revisados periódicamente, consensuados y cada vez más exigentes de legalidad, sanidad, limpieza, seguridad e información y gestión ambiental.

También lucirá este distintivo el Puerto de la Duquesa, a quien se le reconoce una temporada más la calidad de sus servicios.

El sendero azul también ha recibido un galardón por ser un recorrido natural, que cuida el medio ambiente y ayuda a mejorar la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos.

Diego Urieta, alcalde de Manilva, felicitaba al citado edil de Playas por el trabajo desarrollado que redundará en los vecinos y turistas que decidan visitarnos ya que se encontrarán con unas playas de calidad para ser disfrutadas.

Introducen camaleones en el entorno de Manilva para recuperar la especie Técnicos de la Junta de Andalucía y del Ayuntamiento de Manilva han introducido recientemente en el entorno de Manilva varios ejemplares de camaleón, una especie en peligro de extinción, para tratar de recuperar esta especie autóctona del Mediterráneo. Para favorecer su control, estos animales cuentan con un microchip que facilita su localización.

Desde el consistorio se recordó a todos los ciudadanos que el camaleón es una especie protegida, por lo que se debe tener especial cuidado con la misma.

El concejal delegado del Área de Medio Ambiente, Emilio López, explicaba que no es la primera vez que se realiza este operativo,

al tiempo que recordó que junto al camaleón se está trabajando para reintroducir en Manilva la Primilla Común.

Además, el Ayuntamiento de

Manilva recuerda que si ve alguna de estas especies en peligro, avise inmediatamente a Medio Ambiente en el teléfono 952 89 38 78.

The Las Gaviotas beach and Puerto de La Duquesa renew their Blue Flags

Chameleons introduced to the local environment to boost the species in Manilva Experts from the Junta de Andalucia and the Manilva Town Hall have recently been introducing various species of chameleon in the surroundings of Manilva, a species in danger of extinction, to try to recover this native Mediterranean reptile. To maximize their safety, these animals have a microchip for

their easy monitoring.

The Town Hall would like to remind residents that the chameleon is a protected species, so you should be careful with it.

The councillor for the Environmental Department, Emilio Lopez, explained that it is not the first time that this initiative is taking place,

and steps are also being taken to reintroduce the Common Kestrel in Manilva.

The Consumer and Environmental Education Association, ADEAC has awarded the Blue Flag to the Las Gaviotas beach in Castillo de la Duquesa through the FEE, after councillor for the area Antonio Parra requested the award.

The Blue Flag is a badge and a system of certification of environmental quality created and managed by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) in 1987. This Foundation is made up of almost 74 non-governmental organisations, one for each of the participating states. The entity ADEAC is the member responsible for Spain.

The Foundation annually awards the Blue Flag to beaches, ports and vessels which meet the periodically

revised and increasingly more demanding criteria for legality, health, cleanliness, safety and environmental management and information.

Puerto de la Duquesa has also been awarded the badge, for the quality of its services once again this season.

The ‘blue trail’ has also received an award for being a natural route, which protects the environment and helps to improve the quality of life of residents.

Mayor of Manilva, Diego Urieta ,congratulated the councillor for Beaches for the work that has been carried out which will result in residents and tourists who choose to visit encountering quality beaches for their enjoyment.

Acuerdo para la formación de los jóvenes en el ayuntamiento

El Ayuntamiento de Manilva, siendo representado por su alcalde, Diego Urieta, ha firmado un acuerdo con la directora del Instituto Las Viñas con el objeto de posibilitar al alumnado de los ciclos formativos de formación profesional inicial la realización del módulo profesional de formación en centros de trabajo y conseguir, de esta manera, una

mejor cualificación a través del conocimiento directo del ambiente real de trabajo.

Esta colaboración formativa viene a rubricar la predisposición del consistorio manilveño por ayudar a la comunidad educativa en todo lo necesario para que sus alumnos, profesores y AMPAS cuenten con la mayor de las comodidades y recursos para

que el desarrollo de los jóvenes sea lo más óptimo posible.

Según comentaba Urieta, desde el Ayuntamiento nombraremos un tutor o tutora para la coordinación y el seguimiento de la formación en centros de trabajo que garantice la orientación y consulta del alumnado y las relaciones con el profesorado responsable del seguimiento.

El nuevo trazado de acceso al Polígono Industrial facilitará el acceso a vehículos de gran tonelaje El alcalde de Manilva, Diego Urieta, mantenía hace unos días un encuentro con los técnicos de la Gerencia de Urbanismo para analizar el primer borrador del proyecto de acceso al polígono industrial La Dehesilla de Manilva, que ha sido encargado por parte del Ayuntamiento a la Diputación, con cargo a los planes provinciales.

Este nuevo trazado de unos 200 metros cuadrados, como avanzaba el alcalde de Manilva, servirá para eliminar uno de los puntos negros que más afectan a los empresarios del municipio que tienen instalados sus negocios en este polígono.

La circulación se estructurará con una nueva rotonda y este

nuevo vial dotará al municipio de una zona comercial con una entrada que no dificulte el paso de los grandes vehículos que a día de hoy, ven como a veces, se les hace muy difícil acceder a esta zona.

Urieta también recordó que ya están iniciados los trámites para la disolución de la Entidad Urbanística de Conservación La Dehesilla que permitirá que el mantenimiento de equipamientos y viales pase a ser competencia municipal.

Con esto el alcalde de Manilva, sigue cumpliendo con los compromisos adquiridos cuando asumió la alcaldía en el mes de noviembre.

Agreement for the training of young people at the Town Hall

Manilva town hall, represented by the mayor, Diego Urieta, has signed an agreement with the director of the Las Viñas high school to enable students starting vocational training courses to carry out their studies in work placements and therefore achieve a better qualification through direct knowledge of the real working

environment.

This training partnership has been brought about thanks to the town hall’s predisposition to help the educational community with everything their students, teachers and parents' associations require and provide the best support and resources so that the development of young people in the area is as

optimal as possible.

According to Urieta, the town hall will appoint a tutor to coordinate and monitor the training in workplaces and to ensure guidance and counselling is provided for students and promote a good relationship between students and the teachers who will take them through the process.

Un trasvase 5.000 m3 de arena dejará en óptimas condiciones la Playa de Las Gaviotas

El ayuntamiento instala puntos WiFi en el municipio

La delegación de Playas, a través del convenio firmado entre el Ayuntamiento de Manilva y la empresa que gestiona el Puerto de la Duquesa, Marinas del Mediterráneo, está supervisando los trabajos de trasvase de arena en la playa de las Gaviotas.

Según informaba el concejal delegado, Antonio Parra, son 5.000 m3 de arena que reformarán la playa y ofrecerá a los bañistas un mejor servicio y comodidad a la hora de disfrutar del litoral.

Estos trabajos, que tienen coste cero para las arcas municipales, están considerados dentro del Plan de Playas y vienen a refrendar la preocupación y dedicación que tiene destinada el Consistorio manilveño a uno de los bienes naturales por

Las nuevas tecnologías y el avance de la telefonía se han convertido en una pieza fundamental en la sociedad. Para ofrecer un buen servicio al ciudadano, el Ayuntamiento de Manilva está ultimando la instalación de puntos wifi público en la localidad.

Cabe recordar que el wifi es un mecanismo de conexión de dispositivos electrónicos de forma inalámbrica. Los dispositivos habilitados con wifi, tales como un ordenador personal, una consola de videojuegos, un teléfono móvil, o un reproductor de audio digital, pueden conectarse a Internet a través de un punto de acceso de red inalámbrica. Dicho punto de acceso tiene un alcance de unos 20 metros en interiores, una distancia que es mayor al aire libre.

Según el informe ofrecido por la empresa EXCOM, profesionales

As reported by councillor Antonio Parra, 5,000 m3 of sand is being

brought in to offer swimmers better service and comfort while enjoying the coastal area.

These works, which are of zero cost to city coffers, come under the Beaches Plan and endorse the concern and dedication of the town hall to one of the greatest natural assets in the area and one of its

La Escuela De Música participa en el concurso ‘Música Viva’ en Roquetas de Mar La Coral de la Escuela Municipal de Música de Manilva, visitó las instalaciones de la Escuela de Música, Danza y Artes Escénicas de la localidad almeriense de Roquetas de Mar para participar en el IX Concurso de Música Viva, que se celebró en dicho municipio el pasado viernes 8 de mayo.

Un total de 28 alumnos de entre 9 y 15 años formaron este

colectivo musical. Entre ellos se encontraban alumnos de piano, clarinete y saxofón de la Escuela Municipal, que acompañaron a los temas de esta Coral. La directora de la misma es la profesora de piano de Manilva, Rocío García Cabezas. Los temas que interpretaron fueron: “Hijo de la Luna”, del grupo de pop español Mecano, “Mama mía”, del grupo ABBA, “Mad World”,

“Ave Verym” y “Siyahamba”.

Los componentes viajaron en un autobús fletado por la Delegación de Cultura.

Asimismo, esta concejalía se hizo cargo de los gastos, tanto del almuerzo como de la cena de todos los componentes de dicha agrupación.

Los artistas locales demostraron una vez más su nivel e hicieron las delicias del público asistente.

Music School competes in the ‘Música Viva’ Contest The Manilva Municipal School of Music’s choir visited the facilities of the School of Music, Dance and Performing Arts in the Andalucian village of Roquetas de Mar to participate in the IX Live Music Competition, held in the town last Friday, May 8.

The choir encompassed a total of 28 students aged between 9 and 15. This included students of piano, clarinet and saxophone from the Municipal School, who accompanied the choir in their performance. The school is directed

by Manilva piano teacher Rocío García Cabezas. The pieces they performed were “Hijo de la Luna”,

by Spanish pop group Mecano, ABBA’s “Mama mía”, “Mad World”, “Ave Verym” and “Siyahamba”.

The participants were taken to the competition by coach, hired by the Town Hall. All their needs were

covered by the town hall, who also provided them with lunch and dinner.

The local artists have once again displayed their high level of talent to a delighted audience.

Council installs WiFi spots locally New technology and telephony advances have become a fundamental part of society. The Town Council is completing the installation of public wifi spots in Manilva to provide people with a good service.

Remember that wifi is a mechanism for connecting electronic devices wirelessly. Wifi enabled devices such as a personal computer, games console, mobile phone, or digital audio player be connected to the Internet through a wireless network access point. The access point has a range of about 20 metres indoors, a distance that is greater outdoors.

According to a report offered by the company EXCOM, professionals who are carrying out these installations, the wifi points will be in the Plaza Pozo del Rey and

Manilva Music Festival se celebrará el 29, 30 y 31 de mayo y generará 200 puestos de trabajo

Adjudican a una empresa de Manilva el servicio de retirada y depósito de vehículos El Ayuntamiento de Manilva ha firmado con la empresa local "Espinosa y Martín Autos Sabinillas S.L." el contrato para que asuma la retirada de vehículos en las vías públicas, así como el depósito de los mismos, y colabore en el tratamiento de vehículos abandonados como residuos sólidos.

El presupuesto base de licitación anual es de 24.000 euros anuales y el plazo de ejecución alcanza los dos años prorrogables.

El objetivo será emplear este servicio de retirada de vehículos de las vías públicas en lugares del término municipal y el traslado de

los vehículos al correspondiente depósito municipal a través de la concejalía de Seguridad Ciudadana.

Las actividades esenciales de retirada serán llevadas a cabo en los supuestos de auxilio a accidentes y demás calamidades públicas, y en todas aquellas situaciones dispuestas por los agentes de la Policía Local, en virtud de órdenes generales o particulares procedentes de órganos correspondientes así como en aquellos otros supuestos que competa llevar a efecto a la administración municipal.

Manilva company awarded vehicle removal and impoundment service El municipio de Manilva se convertirá del 29 al 31 de mayo en la capital musical de la provincia de Málaga con la celebración del Manilva Music Festival. Se trata de un espectáculo musical que estará orientado a toda la familia y en el que, además de los conciertos, se han programado actividades para personas de todas las edades.

Con este evento, según destacan desde el ayuntamiento en un comunicado, la repercusión internacional de Manilva será importantísima y además, unas 200 personas podrán trabajar en estos días en distintas tareas como auxiliares de limpieza, seguridad, montadores etc. El ayuntamiento ha exigido a la empresa organizadora que todos

los estos puestos de trabajo se ocupen con vecinos del municipio, por lo que se habilitará una dependencia municipal para que realicen las entrevistas y seleccionen al personal.

En cuanto al cartel del festival, destacan una veintena de artistas, la gran mayoría de origen británico, como The Christians, The Universal, The Arkanes, King Hammond, The Electric Stars y Stone Foundation….

Según comentaba el alcalde de Manilva, Diego Urieta la celebración del Manilva Music Festival ‘es un deseo municipal el abrir las posibilidades económicas, turísticas y culturales en el término, por ello, que Manilva haya sido el lugar elegido por los organizadores

Fairground is the venue for three day Manilva Music Festival The Malaga Music Festival will go ahead thanks to a last minute intervention by the Manilva Town Council who stepped in to rescue this three day music event after Mijas pulled out.

Carl Wileman, one of the festival organisers told The Resident that he was grateful to Manilva for its assistance and was determined to repay the trust with a successful festival which will grow over the coming years to become one of the major events on the Costa del Sol’s calendar.

Manilva Town Council has signed a contract with local company "Espinosa y Martín Autos Sabinillas S.L." to take over the removal of vehicles on public roads as well as the car-pound, and assist in the treatment of abandoned vehicles as solid waste.

The annual tender base budget is 24,000 euros per year renewable bi-annually.

The aim of this service is to remove vehicles from public roads in parts

of the municipality transferring them to the corresponding municipal pound through the Civil Security Department.

Core removal activities will be carried out in case of accidents and other public incidents, and any situations where requested by the local police, under general orders or individual criterion from relevant bodies as well as other competences in the municipal administration.

Éxito del II Torneo Internacional de Esgrima Organizado por el Club Internacional “Andaluzía” en el Castillo de la Duquesa

El Club Internacional de esgrima “AndaluZía” junto con la Asociación FeliZia-TAMM y el Ayuntamiento de Manilva organizaron el pasado fin de semana el XV torneo de esgrima del circuito de la Asociación Gerónimo Sánchez de Carranza y II Torneo Internacional Villa de Manilva. Más de 200 participantes de las principales provincias andaluzas tomaron parte en categorías de menores de 17 años y preveteranos.

En esta ocasión la esgrima se unió a una buena causa, el fomento de terapias especializadas con animales en niños con necesidades especiales de la mano de la asociación sin ánimo de lucro Felicia-TAMM. Los muros y estancias de este

monumento se poblaron de niños y mayores que disfrutaron no solo de una bonita jornada de esgrima sino de talleres de manualidades, pintacaras y la competición de minizorros de la Asociación Colores de Esperanza capitaneada por Mabel.

Los jóvenes tiradores del Club “AndaluZía” se alzaron con los principales galardones y en categoría de veteranos resultó ganador nuestro maestro Paul Holder y medalla de bronce Alberto Zerrada y Adryan Agustyn en un trepidante asalto en el salón de armas del castillo. En categoría de prevetaranos participaron Joanna Kustra y María Maldonado, oro y plata respectivamente.

Consiguieron su condecoración

The II International Fencing Tournament organized by the "Andaluzia" International Club in Castillo de la Duquesa proves a great success The "Andaluzia" International Fencing Club, the Felizia-TAMM Association and the Manilva Town Hall organized the XV fencing tournament of the Geronimo Sanchez Carranza Association and II Villa Manilva International Tournament last weekend. More than 200 participants from various Andalucian provinces took part in the under 17’s and pre veteran categories.

This time fencing lent a hand to a good cause, the promotion of specialized therapy with animals for children with special needs by the non-profit association FeliciaTAMM. The walls and rooms of the monument were filled with children and adults who enjoyed not only a beautiful day of fencing displays but also arts and crafts workshops, face painting and a mini zorro competition led by Mabel from the Colores de Esperanza (Colours of Hope) Association.

Campaña para fomentar el padrón en Manilva

Te recordamos que como ciudadano de Manilva has de empadronarte en la ciudad en que vives o trabajas, así como comunicar los cambios de domicilio que lleves a cabo.

El Ayuntamiento de Manilva ha iniciado una campaña informativa para que los ciudadanos se empadronen en el municipio, lo que les reportará “importantes beneficios”, según el concejal de Estadísticas, Marcos Ruiz. El edil recordó que los ciudadanos que se empadronen en el municipio podrán optar a ayudas en impuestos públicos como el IBI, así como inscribirse en cursos, talleres y actividades municipales. También podrán matricular a sus hijos en los colegios públicos, obtener certificados de residencia, seguridad social o ayudas económicas y sociales.

Estar empadronado también da derecho a votar en periodos electorales, optar a ayudas por desempleo, darse de alta como autónomo o formalizar matrimonios civiles.

Además, tienes que recordar que en función de los que estemos empadronados, así recibiremos recursos económicos de Diputación y del Estado. Tu presencia sí es importante para todos; de ello dependen nuestras escuelas, centros de salud, carreteras, hospitales, juzgados, y un largo etc.

Los interesados en darse de alta en el Padrón Municipal deberán dirigirse a las oficinas situadas en el Ayuntamiento de Manilva o en la Tenencia de Alcaldía de Sabinillas.

Según los últimos datos municipales, de los 14.800 habitantes de Manilva, algo más de 6.700 son extranjeros, de los que casi 3.000 son británicos. La mayoría figuran como residentes, puesto que el empadronamiento no implica perder derechos en el país de origen.

The Manilva Town Hall would like to remind residents that they are required to register on the Padron of the municipality in which they reside, and to report any change of address.

To this end the Councillor for Statistics, Marcos Ruiz, has initiated an information campaign not only to stress your responsibilities but also the significant benefits of registration.

These benefits include discounts for IBI, as well as elegibility for local classes, workshops and other municipal activities. Registrations allows residents to enroll their children in local schools, obtain certificates of residence, social security and social or economic aid.

Being registered also entitles you to vote in local and European elections, obtain unemployment benefits, register as self-employed or get married.

It should also be considered that the size of the registered population governs the amount of economic resources allocated by the State, including schools, health centres, etc.

A guide to voting in the Spanish local elections On Sunday, 24 May, Spain goes to the polls in the local elections to vote for which party will govern your local town hall for the next four years.

Citizens of all EU countries, along with citizens of a number of countries which have reciprocal agreements, are eligible to vote providing they are registered on the local census (Padron) and have requested the right to vote.

Those of you who expressed a desire to vote before December 31 of last year, or who voted in the last local election should have received a voting slip (Tarjeta censal) in the post. If you haven’t received your slip don’t worry, merely turn up at your designated polling station on Sunday May 24 between 9 am and 8 pm with photo id (your passport is always the best bet) and the station staff will look you up on their list.

Inside the voting slip it will have your details along with the address of the polling station where you should go to vote.

In the case of Manilva there are three polling stations: The Pabellon de Usos Multiples, next to the football ground in Manilva for those resident in Manilva town and adjacent developments; the CEIP San Luis de Sabinillas primary school in Calle Maria Zambrano for those living in Sabinillas; and the Castle in Castillo de la Duquesa for those living in Castillo, Duquesa and most of the urbanisations such as El Hacho, Los Hidalgos, Hacienda Guadalupe, etc.

Once the staff have checked that you are

eligible to vote you will be directed to a voting booth inside of which you will find the lists of all the parties contesting the election.

In Spain you vote for the Party rather than for individuals so all you need to do is place the list of the party for which you wish to vote in the envelope supplied, there is no need to seal it. Only include one list, DO NOT mark the list in any way, shape or form, in fact don’t take a pen or pencil with you, that way you will not be tempted to put a cross or tick or any comment on the list. If you do it will be disqualified and your vote wasted.

Take the envelope to the table where the officer will instruct you to place it in the ballot box and your contribution to local democracy is complete.

The List System

There are a fixed number of councillors which is governed by the number of registered residents, in Manilva’s case there

are currently 17 elected councillors.

Unlike the UK the election is by proportional representation and you vote for the political party as opposed to individual candidates.

Each party presents a list of its candidates in order of preference, they then get to install their members into office according to the percentage of the vote they receive ie 1 councillor for every 5.9% of the vote they gain. In the last election in 2011 the people of Manilva cast a total of 5,008 votes meaning that after a little mathematical jiggery pokery the parties gained a councillor for every 259 votes they received.

The Mayor is then elected by the councillors and is in most cases the leader of the party which gains the highest percentage of the overall vote, although if the party fails to get a majority they have to pact with one or more of the other parties, and this can sometimes be at the expense of handing over the mayorship.

Given the size of Estepona there are a number of polling stations across the municipality. To find out in which one you should vote visit the Town Hall website at http://ayuntamiento.estepona.es/ and introduce your NIE number into the box ‘Consulta de Colegios Electorales’ and you will be told where your polling station is.

Carta de Antonia Muñoz a la ciudadania Queridos vecinos y vecinas: Quiero dirigirme a vosotros, como ciudadanos de este maravilloso pueblo, para agradeceros públicamente el cariño y los ánimos que siempre me habéis mostrado en los momentos difíciles.

Además, como manilveña y vecina, me siento especialmente orgullosa de los años que he desempeñado mi cargo como Alcaldesa; y en los que juntos, codo con codo, hemos sido capaces de lograr hitos para nuestro pueblo, como los Paseos Marítimos de Sabinillas y El Castillo, la Ciudad Deportiva, los parques de Villa Matilde, La Vendimia, El Duque y las Viñas, el Centro de Interpretación y la bodega de vinos del CIVIMA, la remodelación de la Iglesia de Santa Ana y el aparcamiento y la Plaza Pozo del Rey entre otros. Así mismo y aunque sea menos lustroso, hemos logrado saldar las deudas que nos dejaron como herencia los anteriores gobernantes, y pagar 6 millones y medio de euros a la Tesorería general de la Seguridad Social de las deudas inaplazables, sin necesidad de pedir préstamos ni subir los impuestos.

Sólo con el ahorro generado por nuestra gestión.

En clave de futuro quiero deciros, que esta vez no concurro a las elecciones

como candidata, pero a pesar de todo me preocupa muchísimo lo que pueda ocurrir en Manilva. Nos enfrentamos a una legislatura muy difícll, con unos resultados electorales inciertos, y que marcará seguro el devenir de Manilva.

El equipo de gobierno actual, aunque como personas cuentan con todos mis respetos, en cuanto a forma de gobernar han optado nuevamente por una política de derroche que recuerda a la època del GIL o PDEM, y con la que estoy en total desacuerdo.

Al contrario, es necesario, dotar nuevamente a Manilva de un gobierno estable, con un grupo de personas que apuesten por la gestión, por la integración de los colectivos extranjeros, por revitalizar nuestro comercio como fuente de ingresos y además por el primer concejal extranjero y británico de nuestra historia, Dean Tyler Shelton.

Por esto y por muchas razones más, mi voto y mi apoyo en estas elecciones es para la candidatura de Izquierda Unida y más concretamente para Antonio Barragán Benítez, un vecino de Manilva, maestro de profesión, con una gran capacidad de gestión y de liderazgo que llevará a Manilva a ocupar el lugar que por trascendencia se merece en Andalucía.

Open Letter from Antonia Muñoz To The General Public Dear neighbours and friends: I would like to take this opportunity to address you as citizens of this wonderful town and to publicly thank you for the love and encouragement you have always shown me in difficult times.

Moreover and as a Manilveña and a local myself, I am especially proud of the years I have lived out my position as Mayor and where together side by side we were able to achieve milestones for our people, such as the Sabinillas promenade of Sabinillas and Castillo, the Sabinillas sports complex, the parks of Villa Matilde, the Vendimia Square, El Duque, the Vines, the interpretation centre and wine cellar of CIVIMA, the restoration of the church of Santa Ana, the underground car park and square of Pozo del Rey amongst others. Likewise although much less lustrous, we managed to settle debts left to us as a legacy of previous governments, and we paid off 6 million Euros to the General Treasury of the Social Security that was non deferrable debt without the need to raise taxes or by even borrowing money to do so.

We managed this by our good management and internal saving mechanisms within the council budgets. Looking to the future I want to say and make it clear that this time I am

not a candidate for the upcoming elections, despite that, I do care very much what might happen in Manilva. We face a very difficult legislature ahead with uncertain election results that could mark the future instability of Manilva. The current government team, although as people have my upmost respect, as a governing team have opted to a return of the old kind of government policy of waste reminiscent of the times of the GIL or PDEM era, and of which I strongly disagree.

I believe it is necessary that we keep a stable government for Manilva, with a group of people that are committed to the management and integration of expat groups, that will also revitalize our trade and commerce as a source of income, and that will give us the first expat British councillor in our history, Dean Tyler Shelton.

For this and many other reasons, my vote and my support in this election is for the candidacy of Izquierda Unida and more specifically for Antonio Barragán Benitez, a neighbour of Manilva, who by profession is a school teacher, with a great capacity for management, leadership and who I have complete confidence will take Manilva to the place of importance it deserves to hold within Andalucía

New Irish Arts Artistic Director Jonathan Rea is returning to the Costa del Sol in May following the packed-out Big Sing at Sotogrande Church in February.

The local community is invited to The Little Sing in the Catholic Church in Sabinillas on Sunday 31st May 2015. The Little Sing features music provided by a choir, specially formed for the performance, which is open to anyone who wants to join in. Led by Jonathan Rea from the New Irish Arts, and accom-

El Festival Nuevo Cine Andaluz convertirá a Casares en la capital del cine andaluz del 8 al 13 de junio

E

l lunes 8 de junio comienza oficialmente el Festival Nuevo Cine Andaluz de Casares. La Sección Oficial se iniciará cada día a las 20:30 con la proyección de un cortometraje seleccionado dentro de una muestra de las producciones malagueñas de los últimos años. Dentro de esta muestra se proyectarán los trabajos, “El cuarto Chakra”, de Jaime D.Triviño, premio del público en el último Festival de Málaga; “¡Formen Fila!”, de Raúl Mancilla; “Clóset”, de Rakesh B.Narwani; “Garbanzos con azúcar”, de Antonio Aguilar García y Raúl Maniclla; “Lugares comunes”, de Delia Márque y Pablo Díaz.

Tras los cortometrajes comienza la proyección de los largometrajes seleccionados para la Sección Oficial del II Festival Nuevo Cine Andaluz de Casares. Cada trabajo será presentado por su director y los actores de reparto y tras la proyección de las películas se establecerá un coloquio público y cineastas. Las películas seleccionadas se harán públicas en cuanto finalice el plazo de inscripción de las obras a concurso.

Esta edición también hay una Sección Paralela, las proyecciones se inician cada día a las 18:30 en el Centro Cultural Blas Infante con la Sección Paralela. Dentro de su programación tendrán lugar, entre otros actos, la proyección de los trabajos del concurso “Cortos Exprés”, la proyección de los cortos elaborados durante el curso de Stop Motion y la proyección del documental “Quivir”, de

Casares

Manu Trillo; un interesante documental de carácter etnográfico que trata las coincidencias en torno al trabajo de los corcheros a ambos lados del Estrecho de Gibraltar. También, dentro de la Sección Paralela, el Festival dedicará una jornada como Homenaje a José Val del Omar con una conferencia impartida por Gonzalo Sáenz de Buruaga, responsable del Archivo Val del Omar y familiar directo del cineasta; la proyección de rodajes de Val del Omar de 1932, cuando fue responsable de cinematografía de las Misiones Pedagógicas de la República; y la proyección de su obra artística cumbre, “El Tríptico Elemental de España”.

La noche del viernes estará amenizada con un concierto del humorista, cineasta y músico, Pablo Carbonell, que en estos momentos inicia una gira conmemorativa del 30 aniversario del mítico grupo de los años 80, Toreros Muertos. El concierto será gratuito hasta completar aforo y tendrá lugar a partir de las 23:30 en la discoteca Shambara de Casares.

El Festival termina el sábado con la Gala de Clausura que en esta ocasión estará conducida en clave de humor por la actriz y guionista Esther Lara. Durante la misma se proyectarán los cortometrajes premiados, se entregará el galardón oficial, Pajarraco de Plata, a los cortos y largometrajes premiados.

he New Andalucian Film Festival begins on Monday June 8 in Casares. The Official Selection will begin each day at 8.30 pm with the screening of a short film selected as part of a sample of productions from Malaga during recent years. The works on show are “El cuarto Chakra”,

by Jaime D.Triviño, winner of the audience’s choice award at the most recent Film Festival in Málaga; “¡Formen Fila!”, by Raúl Mancilla; “Clóset”, by Rakesh B.Narwani; “Garbanzos con azúcar”, by Antonio Aguilar García and Raúl Maniclla; and “Lugares comunes”,

by Delia Márque y Pablo Díaz.

Following the screening of short films, the projection of the feature length films chosen for the Official Section of the II New Andalucian Film Festival in Casares will commence. Each piece will be

presented by its director and supporting actors and after the screening there will be a chat between the audience and filmmakers. The selection of films will be published as soon as the deadline for registration into the

competition ends.

This year there is also a parallel section, with projections beginning each day at 6:30 pm, at the Blas Infante Cultural Centre. It’s programme encompasses the screening of the short films entered into

the "Short Express" competition, the projection of the films produced by participants of the ‘Stop Motion’ workshop and the screening of Manu Trillo’s documentary "Quivir"; an interesting ethnographic documentary that addresses similarities between workers producing cork on both sides of the Straits of Gibraltar. Also within the parallel section there will be a day in homage to José Val del Omar with a lecture by Gonzalo Saenz de Buruaga, manager of the Val del Omar Archive and member of the filmmaker’s immediate family; the projection of Val del Omar’s clips from 1932, when he was responsible for the cinematography of the Pedagogical Missions of the Republic; and the projection of his artistic masterpiece, "The Elemental Triptych of Spain".

Friday evening will include a con-

cert by comedian, filmmaker and musician, Pablo Carbonell, who is now beginning a tour commemorating the 30th anniversary of the legendary 80’s comedy group, Toreros Muertos. The concert will be free until all the seats are filled and will take place from 11:30 pm onwards in the Shambara club in Casares.

The festival ends on Saturday with the Closing Gala which will be conducted comically by actress and screenwriter Esther Lara. At the same time the award-winning short films will be screened and the official ‘Pajarraco de Plata’ award will be presented, to the winning short and feature films.

Casares celebra la Romería de la Virgen del Rosario los días 30 y 31 de mayo La salida de la Virgen del Rosario del Campo hacia la ermita está prevista el sábado a las 16:00 horas El pueblo de Casares celebra los días 30 y 31 de mayo la Romería de su patrona, la Virgen del Rosario del Campo.

Un peregrinaje desde Casares hasta su Ermita ubicada junto al río Genal, lugar donde según la tradición fue encontrada la Virgen por unos labradores.

La Romería comienza a las cuatro de la tarde del sábado, cuando la Virgen del Rosario sale de su capilla, en la Plaza de España, con repique de campanas y

cohetes. La acompañan el coro de la Hermandad y cientos de casareños que realizan a pie, caballo o carroza los 14 kilómetros que unen el pueblo a la Ermita.

Una vez en la Ermita, la Asociación de Caballistas de Casares realiza una ofrenda floral a la Virgen, que da paso al Santo Rosario y mes de María.

Durante toda la tarde y noche, Nuestra Señora del Rosario es visitada por miles de romeros

de Casares, El Secadero y toda la comarca, que también se unen a la verbena que se celebra en el lugar a partir de las 10 de la noche, amenizada en esta ocasión por el grupo “Latido”.

A las 12 del mediodía del domingo se celebrará una Misa en la Ermita y los asistentes celebran un día festivo de convivencia junto a la ermita hasta las 19:00 horas que se realiza la vuelta a Casares.

Casares celebrates the Romeria de la Virgen del Rosario on 30 and 31 May The village of Casares will celebrate the pilgrimage of their patron saint, the Virgen del Rosario del Campo, on 30 and 31 May. At noon on Sunday, a Mass is held in the Hermitage and attendees celebrate with a day of festivities, music and dancing next to the chapel until 7 pm at which time they return to Casares.

El Ayuntamiento asfalta de Marina de Casares El Consistorio de Casares ha destinado un presupuesto de 52.000 euros a la mejora de 9.000 metros cuadrados del firme de Marina de Casares. Unos trabajos que han supuesto el asfaltado de las calles Hermanos Machado y Rafael Alberti en la zona norte de la urbanización, y la avenida Estrella de Mar que conecta la rotonda de acceso a la A-7 con la playa.

Las obras ya están terminadas, y además llevan pareja la sustitución de parte del acerado en la zona sur.

La intención del Ayuntamiento es asfaltar por fase toda la urbanización, para lo que ha empezado por las calles que se

encontraban en peor estado.

La concejala de Costa, Antonia Pineda, explicaba que el proyecto del equipo de gobierno local es recepcionar los viales de las urbanizaciones para ocuparse de su mantenimiento y limpieza.

De hecho, desde el Ayuntamiento de Casares se prepara un proyecto para asfaltar los viales de Bahía de Casares que se encuentran en peor estado, a los que se va a destinar un presupuesto de 89.524 euros.

Casares muestra la obra del pintor José Pérez Casares exhibits artist José Pérez Ocaña in all his facets and themes Ocaña en todas sus facetas y temáticas José Pérez Ocaña es pintor y artista polifacético, conocido por sus performances de travestismo, folclore y denuncia.

Natural de Cantillana (Sevilla) emigró a Barcelona donde vivió sus últimos 15 años y desarrolló su vida artística. Un personaje que no dejó a nadie impasible y al que el cineasta Ventura Pons dedicó el film “Ocaña, retrato intermitente”.

La exposición que se puede contemplar ahora en Casares contiene 30 cuadros y una figura escultórica en papel maché. La obra expuesta desarrolla la vida del pintor en todas sus facetas y temáticas (autoretratos, mujeres, mantoneras, vírgenes, personas desvalidas, amor homosexual…)

Muchos de estos trabajo llevan años sin ser expuestos y otros nunca han sido admirados por el gran público.

Obras emblemáticas como su Autorretrato con sombrero, o La luna, que ha sido motivo de inspiración de otros artistas se incluyen en la colección que llega ahora hasta Casares.

Ocaña's work is being displayed in Andalucia after a 30 year gap

De la acuarela al acrílico, del pastel al óleo, todas las técnicas sobre variados soportes (tela, madera o papel reciclado)…nos llenarán los sentidos de vida y alegría, tal como quería Ocaña que viéramos los años tristes de la dictadura. De hecho, en la exposición destaca una serie de una detención y tortura, en la que los estudiosos han identificado al propio Ocaña, que fue detenido varias veces por su actitud libre y

rebelde en Barcelona.

“La primavera andaluza de Ocaña”, que ya ha sido expuesta en Castro del Río, llega a Casares como prólogo de una exposición permanente que se instalará próximamente en el Museo Ocaña que se va a crear en su pueblo natal, en Cantillana.

La obra de Ocaña se muestra en Andalucía después de 30 años desde la última exposición que fue organizada en Córdoba.

José Pérez Ocaña is a painter and multifaceted artist, known for his performances of transvestism, folklore and activism. Born in Cantillana (Sevilla) he emigrated to Barcelona where he lived during his last 15 years and developed his artistic life. A character who left no one indifferent and to whom filmmaker Ventura Pons dedicated the film "Ocaña, intermittent picture".

The exhibition, which is currently on show in Casares, contains 30 paintings and a papier mache sculpture. The exhibit showcases the painter's life in all its facets and themes (self-portraits, women, virgins, helpless people, homosexual love ...) Many of these works have been hidden away for years without being exhibited and others have never been seen before by the general public.

Iconic works such as his ‘Selfportrait with a Hat’, or ‘The Moon’, which has been an inspiration to

other artists, are included in the collection that has now arrived in Casares.

From watercolor to acrylic, oil to pastel, all techniques on various mediums (canvas, wood or recycled paper) ... fill our senses with life and joy, as Ocaña wanted us to see the sad years of the dictatorship. In fact, the exhibition highlights a number of detentions and torture, in which scholars have identified Ocaña himself, who was arrested several times for his free and rebellious attitude in Barcelona.

"Ocaña’s Andalucian Spring", which has been exhibited in Castro del Rio, arrives in Casares as a prologue to a permanent exhibition that will be installed shortly in the Ocaña Museum to be created in his hometown, in Cantillana.

Ocaña's work is being displayed in Andalucia after a 30 year gap since the last exhibition was organized in Cordoba.

39 organizaciones participan en los XIII Premios Blas Infante: Casares Solidarios El Ayuntamiento convocará próximamente a los vecinos que quieran participar en el jurado Finalizado el plazo de recepción, un total de 39 proyectos participan en la decimotercera edición de los Premios Blas Infante: Casares Solidario, de los que 31 son de cooperación internacional, que concurren al premio ‘Casares por la Humanidad’, otros 5 aspiran al ‘Casares por Andalucía’ y 3 a ‘Casares por España’.

En total han sido 41 los proyectos recibidos en el Ayuntamiento, aunque 3 de ellos no se correspondían con

las bases de los Premios Blas Infante por lo que finalmente no fueron inscritos.

Una vez recibido todos los proyectos y tras finalizar el procedimiento de revisión de cada uno, desde la Concejalía de Cooperación se está preparando junto al Programa de Participación Ciudadana una reunión con los vecinos, que se convocará próximamente, para organizar el jurado.

de Casares y presididos por defensor del pueblo andaluz, Jesús Maeztu.

Las bases de los premios Blas Infante dan contenido el lema del ideario andaluz: “Andalucía por sí, para España y la Humanidad”, premiando la solidaridad en tres ámbitos geográficos: regional, nacional e internacional.

La entrega de premios será en Casares el 5 de julio coincidiendo con el aniversario del nacimiento de Blas Infante, en Casares el 5 de julio de 1885.

39 organizations participate in the XIII Blas Infante Awards: Casares Solidarity The period for receipt of entries in the thirteenth edition of the Blas Infante Awards: Casares Solidario, has concluded with a total of 39 projects participating, of which 31 are international projects, 'Casares for Humanity', another 5 focus on 'Casares Andalucia' and 3 'Casares for Spain'.

In total 41 projects have been received at the Town Hall, but 3 of them did not correspond to the

basis of the Blas Infante Awards so eventually were not registered.

Once received, and after the revision procedure for each project is complete, The ‘Concejalía de Cooperación’ is preparing, through the Citizen Participation Program a meeting with residents, to be held shortly, to organize the jury.

Los propietarios de viviendas aislada deben realizar su plan de autoprotección contra incendios La Concejalía de Medio Ambiente de Casares está prestando asesoramiento para la redacción del plan Como cada año con la llegada de la época estival el Ayuntamiento de Casares pone en marcha políticas de prevención de incendios teniendo en cuenta el amplio término municipal y su consideración como zona de peligro de incendio.

Desde la Concejalía de Medio Ambiente se recuerda la obligatoriedad para los propietarios de edificaciones en zonas rurales de realizar un Plan de Autoprotección , según la Ley 5/99 de Prevención y Lucha contra Incendios Forestales y el reglamento que la desarrolla, Real Decreto 247/2001.

Se trata de un documento que incluye las medias que se tendrán en cuenta en cada edificación en caso de incendio, como tener preparadas salidas alternativas y otras medidas de prevención para

la protección de las personas que las habitan.

Los propietarios que todavía no tengan su plan de autoprotección pueden dirigirse a la Concejalía de Medio Ambiente donde se les ayudará en la redacción de los mismos, o también pueden dirigirse a la web municipal: http://www.casares. es /es /Natu r al ez a/ Pl anes _ de_autoproteccion_de_in/ donde encontrarán un modelo

simplificado de un plan de autoprotección y una guía para facilitar su cumplimentación, en inglés y español, con el objeto de facilitar a los vecinos su realización.

El término municipal de Casares está considerada zona de peligro por su complicada orografía, por la presencia de fuertes vientos de forma habitual y por la gran masa forestal y de matorral que existe en el mismo.

La Tenencia de Alcaldía última detalles para la apertura del Parque de Sotocolorado La zona pública de recreo ha sido ampliada, con una zona de cesped, juegos populares, más atracciones en su parque infantil y una gran fuente terminada con un mosaico La ampliación del parque de Sotocolorado es un proyecto que ha realizado la Tenencia de Alcaldía a partir de la ampliación del patio de recreo del Colegio Los Almendros, y que ha dotado al Secadero de un nuevo espacio para disfrutar del aire libre.

La zona ampliada cuenta con una parte recubierta de césped con mesas y bancos de madera y diferente mobiliario urbano, y otra parte de hormigón impreso, en la que se han dibujado juegos tradicionales como la rayuela, ajedrez o tres en raya.

El proyecto ha llevado consigo la construcción de una gran fuente en el muro que linda con el centro escolar, que ha sido recubierta con un vistoso mosaico con motivos marinos.

Izquierda Unida has the people's support to govern Casares

La opinión de la ciudadanía es importante para Izquierda Unida ((IU), por ello el candidato a alcalde, Pepe Carrasco, y su equipo, han pedido opinión a la población sobre proyectos para realizar en Casares en los próximos 4 años.

El equipo de gobierno de IU va a destinar 100.000 euros anuales para las infraestructuras que los vecinos de cada urbanización decidan.

Y para que los habitantes ahorren en cuotas a comunidades y entidades urbanísticas, el Ayuntamiento va a asumir los servicios de iluminación pública, y limpieza de los viales.

Además desde IU se van a poner en marcha proyectos importantes para el conjunto de la Costa.

Una de las demandas principales es una guardería, su construcción será inmediata y en el mismo edificio se van a crear aulas para talleres y actividades de asociaciones.

IU considera prioritario fomentar el empleo y que todos los habitantes tengan sus necesidades básicas cubiertas.

Aumentaremos la presencia

Y ya está trabajando para culminar el Paseo Marítimo hasta Estepona y Sabinillas, lo que será una realidad muy pronto.

l Grupo Hoteles Globales abrirá su primer establecimiento en el municipio. Se trata de un hotel de cuatro estrellas que se ubica en el extrarradio, en la zona de Isdabe. La exposición “¡Corred insensatos!”, sobre “El Señor de los Anillos”, eje central del festival de este año se puede visitar en la Facultad de Ciencias de la Comunicación. En esta muestra se podrá contemplar todo el Universo Tolkien, franquicia que más material de

The new season will be inaugurated with the theatrical performances entitled 'Dos hombres solos sin punto com ni ná' ('Two men alone without dot com or nothin'), on 14 and 15 May and 'Al final de la carretera' ('At the end of the road') on 22 May. The mayor has highlighted the quality of this new cultural facility enjoyed by all over the last two months, and the

range of events on offer.

The first piece stars actors Manolo Medina and Javier Vallespín, and tells the story of two very different single men sharing an apartment, leading them to a series of very entertaining comic situations. On the other hand, 'the end of the road', recently released nationally, with performances by Melani Olivares, Marina San Jose, Raul Pena and Manu Baqueiro, features the well thought out combination of nonsense and common sense.

From May 14 the University of Málaga is hosting events prior to the XVI International Fantasy Film Festival of the Costa del Sol, which will take place from 5 to 12 September, with activities in Estepona, Marbella, Behavís and Malaga.

Finalizan las obras de remodelación de calle Casares Las playas de Estepona ya están Con esta actuación, el proyecto de renovación del Centro Histórico alcanza los 13 kilómetros El proyecto de remodelación integral y puesta en valor del casco antiguo de Estepona ha renovado en los últimos 3 años más de 13 kilómetros de calles según ha informado recientemente el ayuntamiento en un comunicado. Según el mismo “este se ha convertido en uno de los proyectos más ambiciosos que ha llevado a cabo el actual equipo de gobierno y que ha conseguido cambiar, radicalmente, la imagen de Estepona”. Según el alcalde, José María García Urbano, “la idea no era otra que recuperar un casco antiguo que estaba muy deteriorado y convertirlo en uno de los más bonitos de toda Andalucía”. Las obras no sólo han consistido en la renovación superficial, apuntó el alcalde, sino que “ha sido una remodelación integral de las calles en las que, además, de un nuevo pavimento y ornamentación, se han renovado las redes del subsuelo que, en muchas calles, llevaban más de 50 años sin recibir ningún tipo de mejora”.

El regidor apuntó que el plan de embellecimiento del casco antiguo ha incluido la colocación de unas 7.500 macetas y 992 macetones en las calles que han sido remodeladas. “Con esta ornamentación se consigue mantener el tipismo andaluz

La última calle en sumarse a este proyecto ha sido la céntrica calle Casares cuyas obras acaban de concluir. Esta emblemática vía estará preparada para albergar

los actos principales del día del patrón, San Isidro Labrador, que se celebra el 15 de mayo y en el que la calle Casares se convierte cada año en el centro neurálgico de esta celebración.

El Consistorio ha conseguido un ahorro de un 32,14 por ciento en el presupuesto de estas obras que han renovado una de las calles más emblemáticas del casco antiguo. Esta reducción ha sido posible gracias al procedimiento de subasta pública que ha impulsado el Consistorio, por lo que los trabajos se adjudicaron a la empresa que garantizó ejecutarlos por el menos presupuesto.

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona imparte un taller gratuito de iniciación al cultivo de orquídeas El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, a través de la delegación municipal de Cultura celebrará el próximo 30 de mayo, de 10:00 a 14:00 horas, en el Centro Cultural Padre Manuel un taller gratuito de iniciación al cultivo de orquídeas, a cargo de Manuel Lucas García.

El objetivo del taller es desmitificar las orquídeas, y dar a conocer detalles importantes para cultivarlas con éxito en casa y obtener floraciones todos los años. También se mostrarán algunas especies menos

comunes, pero igualmente fáciles de cultivar, y se enseñará a los asistentes a ubicar correctamente las orquídeas en casa, en función de sus necesidades.

Cada asistente deberá acudir al taller provisto de un bloc de notas y bolígrafo para tomar apuntes. Si poseen alguna orquídea en casa con necesidades de trasplante, cura, etcétera. puede llevarse al taller. En ese caso, deberá aportar como material añadido unas tijeras afiladas, un tarro de canela en polvo, y una bolsa de sustrato para orquídeas.

Experto en orquídeas, Manuel Lucas ha impartido numerosos talleres, coloquios, seminarios, etc..., difundiendo la cultura de las orquídeas. En la actualidad dirige la revista orquideológica "Orchidarium" y es responsable de las orquídeas y otras epifitas en el Orquidario de Estepona.

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha presentado la iniciativa 'Mi fiel amigo' que permitirá a los ciudadanos poner una placa con el nombre de su mascota en el parque canino situado en Las Mesas. Con esta iniciativa el Ayuntamiento quiere homenajear a las mascotas y a sus propietarios y, al mismo tiempo, embellecer la ciudad con vistosas placas colocadas en el suelo.

El Consistorio puso en marcha, también, el pasado año una campaña similar denominada 'Un árbol, una vida' mediante la cual los jóvenes del municipio podían apadrinar un árbol, ubicado en zonas públicas, colocando una placa con su nombre junto a cada ejemplar. La campaña ha sido todo un éxito y ya hay más de 350 placas colocadas en árboles de toda la ciudad.

La iniciativa tiene su parte solidaria ya que las placas serán realizadas por los alumnos de Aprona en los talleres del propio

centro. El precio de cada placa será de tan sólo diez euros y servirán para seguir desarrollando nuevos proyectos en este centro para personas con discapacidad.

Los propietarios que deseen participar en este proyecto tendrán que rellenar un formulario en la delegación de Participación Ciu-

dadana -antigua Casa Consistorial. Posteriormente, tendrán que entregar el documento en Aprona y pagar allí mismo los diez euros del coste de la placa.

Una vez que esté finalizada, operarios del Ayuntamiento serán los encargados de colocarlas en el parque canino de Las Mesas.

El municipio de Estepona afronta la temporada estival con 4 banderas azules en sus playas, un distintivo que reconocen el buen buen estado de las mismas.

A las ya galardonadas en años anteriores, El Padrón, La Rada y el Cristo, se une este año la playa de El Saladillo, que obtiene la bandera azul por primera vez.

Estepona aumenta el número de banderas azules por cumplir requisitos de calidad en materias tan importantes como el estado de las aguas de baño, la información que ofrecen sobre los aspectos medioambientales del enclave o las instalaciones que ponen a disposición de los usuarios.

Aragón, destacaba que el litoral está siendo cuidado durante todo el año con trabajos de limpieza, pintura, fontanería, carpintería, electricidad y arreglo de las pasarelas peatonales.

José María García Urbano afirmó al conocer estas distinciones que desde el pasado año se han hecho todos los esfuerzos posibles para que este año se haya conseguido una nueva bandera azul para las playas de Estepona.

“Las playas son uno de nuestros principales atractivos turísticos, por lo que continuaremos esforzándonos para mantenerlas

en un estado óptimo”, apuntaba la concejala. Por otro lado, Susana Aragón indicaba que el Consistorio continúa trabajando en la puesta en valor de las playas del municipio mediante el impulso del proyecto del corredor litoral, que tiene como objetivo unir los más de 20 kilómetros de costa para que los ciudadanos puedan pasear y practicar deporte al aire libre. García Urbano subrayava que esta iniciativa era una de las principales propuestas del programa electoral del equipo de gobierno, ya que un municipio turístico como Estepona "debe sacar el mayor partido a los enclaves naturales únicos que posee”.

La Policía Local inicia una campaña para evitar el ‘botellón’ en Estepona La Policía Local de Estepona ha iniciado una campaña preventiva para evitar el consumo de alcohol en la vía pública, conocido popularmente como 'Botellón'. La campaña se prolongará hasta el día 3 de mayo y se centrará, principalmente, en zonas residenciales. El objetivo no es otro que compatibilizar el derecho al descanso con el derecho al ocio y, además, dar cumplimiento a la ley 4/1997 de Prevención en materia de drogas de Andalucía. Según explicó la concejala del área de Fomento, Infraestructuras y Turismo, Ana Velasco, “Estepona no cuenta con grandes concentraciones donde los jóvenes se reúnen a hacer botellón como en otras ciudades. Sin embargo,

queremos controlar pequeños lugares donde los jóvenes se reúnan a beber en la vía pública y puedan perturbar el descanso de los vecinos”.

Esta campaña se une a otras siete que la Policía local ha ido poniendo en marcha desde el mes de enero como el control del absentismo escolar, el control de la venta ambulante o una campaña preventiva para concienciar de los riesgos que supone el uso de telefonía móvil durante la conducción.

Según explicó Velasco se está trabajando ahora en el diseño de las campañas preventivas que se pondrán en marcha en los próximos meses y que tendrán que tener en cuenta la afluencia de visitantes durante el verano.

El Orquidario de Estepona supera las 100.000 visitas Finalizan los trabajos de una antes de llegar a los dos meses de apertura pradera verde de 13.000 metros El Parque Botánico Orquidario cuadrado en Cancelada de Estepona, uno de los más grandes de Europa, ha alcanzado recientemente las 100.000 visitas, lo que supone un incremento más que notable sobre las perspectivas iniciales que situaban esta barrera tras un año de apertura. Desde el Ayuntamiento de Estepona se muestran muy satisfechos por esta afluencia tan importante de visitantes al tiempo que subrayan que esta mejora también se traducirá en un movimiento económico muy superior al inicialmente previsto.

Los vecinos y visitantes de Estepona pueden disfrutar de esta instalación de 1.000 metros cuadrados de superficie y 15.000 metros cúbicos de volumen que, coronadas por tres cúpulas de vidrio, bajo una de las cuales se

pueden contemplar centenares de ejemplares de distintos puntos del mundo, además de cascadas y jardines verticales.

Pero también, además de orquídeas y otras exóticas plantas, el visitante contemplará un bosque de bambú en el interior del recinto, todo para dar continuidad al proyecto ‘Estepona, Jadín de la Costa del Sol’ que, muy cerca, ha permitido

remodelar y embellecer más de 68 calles del municipio.

Junto al Parque BotánicoOrquidario de Estepona, el ayuntamiento de la localidad ha creado 150 plazas de aparcamientos gratuitos, circunstancia que no sólo beneficia a los visitantes de este espacio, sino que permite a los vecino disfrutar de una mejora de la movilidad en el entorno.

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha finalizado los trabajos de creación de una gran pradera verde, de 13.000 metros cuadrados de superficie, en la avenida de Las Palmeras de Cancelada. Este nuevo espacio verde público cuenta con un palmeral conformado por 60 ejemplares.

Con esta actuación, el Consistorio ha puesto en valor una parcela de titularidad municipal, que se encontraba abandonada desde hacía años. Ahora, los ciudadanos de la zona podrán disfrutar de un área de esparcimiento en el acceso principal al núcleo residencial de Cancelada.

La nueva pradera verde tiene como base césped, por lo que podrá ser transitado por los vecinos.

Los trabajos de ejecución de la pradera, que dieron comienzo el pasado mes de septiembre, han

incluido también, la instalación de un sistema de riego y de un depósito para almacenar agua, así como la plantación de arbolado y especies arbustivas.

La nueva zona circunda la pista de skate, que se ha convertido en una alternativa de ocio para los jóvenes de la zona desde el pasado verano.

La creación de la pradera verde complementa los trabajos que el Ayuntamiento está acometiendo en este área residencial. El pasado año se dotó a Cancelada de una zona verde y de recreo de más de 3.500 metros cuadrados en la plaza de Gamonales. La citada actuación incluía la ejecución de una pradera de césped y la plantación de 54 árboles, y se atendía una reivindicación que venían haciendo los vecinos del entorno desde hacía casi veinte años.

The work toward the creation of this space, which began last September, also included the installation of an irrigation system and a reservoir

for storing water and the planting of trees and shrubs. The new area surrounds the skate park, which has become an alternative source of entertainment for young people in the area from last summer.

Creating the green meadow adds to the work that the town hall has been undertaking in this residential area. Last year a recreational green area of over 3,500 square metres was introduced in the Gamonales square. An area of lawn was created and 54 trees were planted, meeting the wishes of residents voiced over 20 years.

But besides orchids and other exotic plants, visitors will find

a bamboo forest there giving continuity to the 'Estepona, Jardín de la Costa del Sol’' which has also allowed more than 68 nearby town streets to be remodelled.

The town council has created 150 free parking spaces alongside the Orchid House and Botanical Park which not only benefits visitors to this space, but allows residents enjoy improved mobility in the surrounding area.

El aparcamiento del cementerio Santo Cristo de la Vera-Cruz cuenta con 39 plazas nuevas El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha ampliado el aparcamiento del Cementerio Santo Cristo de la Vera Cruz con casi 40 nuevas plazas para vehículos. La concejala del área de Gestión de Recursos, Pilar FernándezFígares, explicaba que las obras han consistido en el asfaltado del parking, que hasta ahora era de tierra, se ha procedido al cerramiento del mismo para crear espacios de sombra y se ha rediseñado el espacio para incrementar el número de plazas. Las mejoras se han completado con la ejecución de zonas verdes, acerados, nuevas luminarias, pintura viaria y un muro perimetral.

Se trata de una obra que ha requerido una inversión de más de 250.000 euros y que financiará, íntegramente, la empresa concesionaria de la gestión del

Además de acondicionar el parking, el Consistorio ha instalado un nuevo centro de transformación eléctrica, con idea de que el camposanto cuente con suficiente potencia eléctrica cuando sea ampliado en el futuro.

Thanks to these 39 parking spaces which are in addition to the 27 already in existence, the cemetery has enough space to offer on those days when there is a greater influx of people. The works will be completed with the installation of drainage and irrigation and street furniture. The council has also installed a new transformer to ensure the cemetery has sufficient electrical power in the future.

¿SER O NO SER RESIDENTE FISCAL EN ESPAÑA? ESA ES LA CUESTIÓN De acuerdo con la legislación española, todo individuo que resida en España más de 183 días al año es considerado residentes fiscales en España y debe pagar impuestos en nuestro país por sus ingresos obtenidos en todo el mundo.

Muchos extranjeros que viven permanentemente en España, o sea más de 183 días al año, no pagan ningún impuesto en España, o no presentan declaraciones anuales de la renta. Algunos no presentan la declaración de la renta por ignorancia, y otros porque piensan que si los impuestos en España son muy altos, etc. Sea cual sea la razón, es importante saber que el desconocimiento de la ley no excluye de su cumplimiento. La declaración de la renta debe presentarse anualmente, y los impuestos deben ser pagados cuando sea aplicable a todos los residentes fiscales en España.

Hasta el día de hoy, la Agencia Tributaria no ha estado controlando la situación de aquellos extranjeros que viven de forma permanente en España, a pesar del hecho de que las autoridades son conscientes de la importancia de este grupo de personas. Ahora la situación ha cambiado, debido a la crisis económica el gobierno español ha intensificado los controles sobre este grupo de personas (extranjeros que viven en España) para garantizar que éstos paguen sus

impuestos cuando tengan obligación de hacerlo.

Y es que uno de los principales motivos por el que el gobierno español ha iniciado una nueva campaña en busca de aquellos que no hacen su declaración de la renta es para evitar que miles de personas reciban asistencia sanitaria gratis sin pagar impuestos y sin tener derecho a recibirla. Es por ello que se han endurecido los requisitos necesarios que permiten a las personas obtener la tarjeta sanitaria española. Al contrario de lo que ocurría en el pasado, ya no será suficiente con registrarse en el ayuntamiento (empadronarse) para obtener asistencia médica.

Por todo ello, si aún no ha presentado su declaración de la renta como residente fiscal, éste es el momento de hacerlo mediante la presentación de la declaración de la renta del año 2014 durante los meses de mayo y junio de 2015.

Hay muchas buenas razones para hacer ello. Esto permitirá a los extranjeros residentes: 1. Confirmar a la Agencia tributaria sin ninguna duda, que ellos son residentes fiscales en España, que viven permanentemente aquí y pagan sus impuestos cuando tienen la obligación de hacerlo.

2. Tener derecho a recibir tarjeta sanitaria que permite el acceso al sistema público de salud español.

3. Evitar el 3 % de retención

4. Beneficiarse de las ventajas y deducciones que el impuesto de sucesiones y donaciones aplica a los residentes fiscales (por ejemplo, eliminación del impuesto de sucesiones entre esposos, sobre la vivienda habitual, etc..).

5. Ser considerado residente fiscal en España, y así evitar el impuesto sobre la renta presunta aplicable a los no residentes que son propietarios de bienes inmuebles en España (modelo 210).

Es importante mencionar, que la mayoría de los extranjeros que viven en España son pensionistas, cuyos ingresos mensuales no son muy altos, por lo que deben ser conscientes que lo más probable es que no tengan que pagar ningún impuesto de la renta en España ya que el resultado de su declaración de la renta será probablemente cero o en el caso de tener que pagar ésta será una pequeña cantidad. Sin embargo, es recomendable presentar dicha declaración (incluso cuando el resultado es cero y no hay impuestos que pagar), para poder así aprovecharse de los beneficios descritos anteriormente.

No esperes más, Si eres extranjero y vives de forma permanente en España (más de 183 días entre el 1 de enero 2014 y 31 de diciembre 2014) te recomendamos presentar tu declaración de la renta del año 2014 durante los meses de mayo y junio 2015. Haciendo esto, confirmarás a la Agencia tributaria que eres, sin lugar a dudas, residente fiscal en España, evitando problemas posteriores y posibles multas, teniendo todos los derechos que las leyes españolas reconocen a todos los individuos que residen legalmente en España y pagan sus impuestos aquí.

TO BE OR NOT TO BE TAX RESIDENT IN SPAIN? THAT´S THE QUESTION

According to the Spanish Law each individual who lives in Spain for more than 183 days a year should be a tax resident in Spain, and therefore should pay taxes in Spain for their worldwide income.

Many foreigners living in Spain permanently, (i.e. for more than 183 days a year), do not pay any taxes in Spain, neither do they submit annual income tax return. Some do not submit annual tax returns out of ignorance of the law, and others because they are afraid of paying high taxes, etc. Whatever the reason, is important to be aware that ignorance of the law is no excuse. The Tax return declaration should be submitted annually, and taxes should be paid when applicable by all tax residents in Spain.

To date, the Spanish Inland Revenue has not been controlling the situation of those foreigners living permanently in Spain, despite the fact that authorities are aware of this important group of people. Now the situation has changed, due to the economical crisis, the Spanish Government has intensified controls of this group of people (foreigners living in Spain) to ensure that they pay taxes where due.

One of the main reasons why Spanish Government has launched a new campaign in search of those who do not submit their Tax return is to avoid thousands of people receiving free health services without paying taxes and without having the legal right to get them. For that reason, they have strengthen the legal requirements that allow people to get Spanish health cards. Unlike in the past, now it will not be enough to just register with the local Town Hall (called “Empadronamiento”) in order to get treatment.

Therefore, NOW is the time to formally become a tax resident in Spain by submitting your annual income tax return for the tax year 2014, This should be done during the months of May and June 2015.

There are many good reasons for doing this. It will enable foreign residents to: 1. Confirm to the Spanish tax authorities without doubt, that they, the tax resident, is living in Spain, and paying taxes when applicable.

2. Have the legal right to receive a health card which allows access to the Spanish Public health system.

3.Avoid the 3 % withholding tax when a real estate property is sold.

This tax is applicable to foreigners who sell a property and cannot prove that they are a tax resident in Spain.

4. Benefit from the inheritance tax advantages and allowances applicable to tax residents in Spain (i.e. no inheritance taxes between spouses on the main home).

5.Be considered a tax resident in Spain, thus avoiding the income tax applicable to non-resident foreigners who are owners of a real estate property in Spain (tax form 210).

It is important to mention that most foreigners living in Spain are pensioners with low monthly pensions, so they should be aware that they probably will not have to pay any income tax in Spain, as the result of their tax return would most likely be zero, or if they do have to pay it would probably be a nominal amount. However, it is still recommendable to submit an annual tax return, (even if the result is zero and no tax has to be paid), to be able to take advantage of the above points.

Don´t wait any longer, if you are foreigner living permanently in Spain (for more than 183 days between 1st January 2014 and 31st December 2014) I would recommend that you submit an annual income tax return for the tax year 2014, during the months of May and June 2015. Thus confirming to the Spanish Tax Authorities that you are, without doubt, a tax resident in Spain, you will avoid any potential problems, or fines, and will have all the legal rights that the Spanish Laws recognizes are due to all individuals residing legally in Spain and duly paying their taxes here.

Dean Tyler-Shelton - Giving you a voice in local government I have been asked to write a few words about myself, and on how I see things in the future of Manilva with me being elected to the town council.

Just over four years ago at the tender age of 38, having lived in Spain by then for the previous 28 years, with absolutely no political aspirations of any kind whatsoever other than the usual pontificating at the TV morning news, and setting the world to rights before going to work… something I believe we have all been guilty of at some time in our life. That was until I was approached by Izquierda Unida via the then local Manilva representative for expats in Mr Chris Olson. Thanks to Chris I embarked on a political campaign knocking on doors, flying banners out of car windows, tooting the car horn until it was near death, talking in public in front well over

a thousand people, putting flyers in car windows, putting up posters and talking to more people than you could swing a hypothetical cat at. The campaign led to a near historic victory for Manilva where we were short of a majority of nine councillors by thirty or so votes. At the time, it was admitted to me that it was thanks to the expat vote that we had gotten so near to absolute victory.

In recognition of the impact of the expat community on the political landscape of Manilva I was given the job of area director for Urbanizations & Communities, Foreign Residents, Trade and Commerce & Statistics. Whilst this was a step forward there were limits to what could be achieved as priorities soon shifted back to the old status quo.

It very soon became clear that the only way Manilva’s expat

community could have true representation would be through an expat councillor which led to my decision to put myself forward as a candidate for councillor with the IU who had the vision to position me on their list with a genuine prospect of having a position as councillor in the next government.

The expat vote has a value, a value of 42 % of the registered population with or without the right to vote.

The main source of income to Manilva is from expat and northern Spanish residential tourism that fuels the local economy on every single level. We deserve, and I demand for us a voice, we are well overdue our equal rights of proportional representation in our beloved adopted town of Manilva.

Help me give you that voice by voting for me on the 24th May. Let me be your voice. Vote Izquierda Unida this Sunday.

El próximo domingo 24 de mayo Estepona elije al que será su alcalde para los próximos cuatro años. The Resident, al igual que ha realizado con los municipios de Manilva y Casares, entrevista a los principales candidatos a obtener representación en el consistorio. ¿Cómo definiría su persona? ¿Y su candidatura? ¿Cómo debe ser la ciudad de Estepona de los próximos 4 años? ¿Cuáles son los principales retos a los que se enfrenta el municipio? ¿Qué medidas se pueden implementar para integrar más la población extranjera en el municipio? ¿Cuenta su candidatura o equipo con alguna persona extranjera? ¿Quién? ¿Qué mensaje le dejaría para a los esperoneros/as de cara al próximo domingo?

On Sunday May the 24th, Estepona will choose who will be their mayor for the next four years. The Resident, as it has done with the municipalities of Manilva and Casares, has interviewed the main candidates trying to gain representation on the council.

1. Los ciudadanos saben que soy trabajador, comprometido, perseverante...

1. No soy el más idóneo para definirme pero diría que soy una persona consecuente, tenaz y trabajadora

2. Es la garantía del futuro para Estepona.

Es el equipo con capacidad de gestión que sacó a Estepona del atolladero y del caos en el que se encontraba hace cuatro años, logrando el mayor proceso de transformación y mejora para la ciudad.

3. Si los ciudadanos vuelven a confiar en nosotros, nos esperan los mejores cuatro años de la historia de Estepona. Vamos a mantener nuestro estilo de gobierno y vamos a seguir creando nuevos focos turísticos que ayuden a crear empleo. La transformación y embellecimiento del casco urbano debe continuar y el mantenimiento de la ciudad y la prestación de servicios debe ser cada día mejor.

4. La ciudad ha mejorado en estos años en infraestructuras y equipamientos que eran básicos como el teatro-auditorio, nuevos espacios deportivos, de ocio, educativos...

Pero nos falta el hospital, prometido en 2007 por la Junta de Andalucía y que debería haber entrado en funcionamiento en 2009.

Pese a no ser una competencia municipal, me comprometo a aunar esfuerzos para construirlo y dárselo a la Junta de Andalucía para que lo mantenga. Mientras, acordaremos con las clínicas de Estepona la prestación de la primera asistencia en caso de emergencias vitales.

5. En primer lugar, hay que seguir poniendo esfuerzos en lograr que todos los ciudadanos que residen en nuestra localidad se empadronan. Además de las ventajas fiscales que conlleva para ellos, es un paso fundamental para poder integrarse dentro de nuestra sociedad.

6. Sí. Hay tres miembros procedentes de países de la Unión Europea: Polonia, Alemania y Suecia.

7. Que hay que ir a votar. Y que los ciudadanos tienen que elegir entre dos modelos. Nuestro modelo de gobierno, que ha dado estabilidad y seriedad a nuestra institución, mejorado la ciudad y la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos o el de los anteriores actores políticos, que llevaron a Estepona a la ruina económica y moral.

It is the team’s management skills that have got Estepona out of its chaotic situation that it was in four years ago, achieving the broader process of transformation and improvement for the town.

3. If people trust us again, we expect the best four years in the the history of Estepona. We will maintain our style of government and we will continue creating new tourist centres that help create jobs. The transformation and beautification of the town must continue and the town’s maintenance and services must get better every day.

4. The town has improved in recent years in infrastructure and equipment that were basic such as the theatre auditorium, new sports facilities, entertainment, education ... But we need the hospital, promised in 2007 by the Government of Andalucia and which should have come operational in 2009. Although not a municipal responsibility, I pledge to work together to build it and give it to the Junta de Andalucía to keep and maintain. Meanwhile, we will adopt agreements with Estepona clinics to provide emergency aid in case of vital emergencies.

5. First, we must continue to make efforts to ensure that all citizens residing in our town register. In addition to the tax advantages that can be obtained, it is an essential step to integration into our society.

3. Yo quiero una Estepona en la que las desigualdades sociales brillen por su ausencia. Quiero un Ayuntamiento sensible con los más débiles y que luche por construir una sociedad más justa, igualitaria y mejor. Lo importante son las personas.

Deseo un Ayuntamiento que gobierne para la mayoría.

4. Sin duda alguna el principal problema que tendrá el próximo equipo de gobierno pasa por resolver el terrible endeudamiento al que el PP nos ha sometido. Antes del 31 de diciembre se tendrá que saldar la deuda de nueve millones de euros de las cuatro operaciones de crédito que el candidato a la alcaldía por el PP firmó entre junio y noviembre del pasado año. A partir del 1 de enero del 2016 se tendrá que empezar a pagar los 65 millones de euros del plan de pago a proveedores que el PP ha firmado pero que no ha comenzado siquiera pagar, ni un solo céntimo de euro se ha abonado a día de hoy.

5. Nos preocupa muchísimo este importantísimo sector de la población esteponera. Hay que diseñar una estrategia consensuada que pasa por el fomento y consolidación de un departamento específico de Residentes Extranjeros.

Debe ser el vehículo que canalice todas las inquietudes relativas a la administración.

6. En nuestra candidatura llevamos a dos inglesas y una francesa, los números 14,16 y 18. Personas extraordinariamente cualificadas con unos currículums realmente impresionantes.

7. Votar al PSOE es sinónimo de transparencia, participación y empleo. Queremos un gobierno para la mayoría

4. Without doubt the main problem for the next governing team will be to resolve the terrible debt that the PP before us has created. Before December 31st, we will have to settle a debt of nine million euros of the four credit operations that the candidate for mayor of the PP signed between June and November last year. As of January 1, 2016 will have to start paying 65 million from the supplier payment plan that the PP has signed but has not even begun to pay, not a single cent has been paid to date.

Q

ue yo te perdone no significa que tenga que seguir entre tus redes.

El amor no se va, se entibia y en apatía se desvanece; sí que se arrincona el amor, se prensa contra la esquina, nos ahoga.

La unidad en un descampado tronando desafíos, buscando continentes nuevos, amores nuevos, espacios para bailar la taquicardia de una noche joven que ya pasó para siempre.

Porque un amor de tantos años ni se olvida, ni se detiene en el brocal del pozo, mas reduce el corazón y lo asfixia cuando se siente herido por la sumisión de uno de los dos. Sé que puedo hundirme más allá de otras oscuridades, pero me niego, me niego a morir por el amor, aunque por él ya voy agonizando, por eso, quiero comenzar un nuevo día atendiendo a las potencias del universo, atrapando la luz que me haga respirar. El pasado rueda y rueda en su presente inevitablemente, es así para los dos. Cada recuerdo en el hogar, cada momento vivido, bueno y malo; y ahora nuestros dos mundos, aunque vuelen independientes, siempre tendrán espacios en común.

Lo que nació en mí no ha muerto,

acaso se frena, se apaciguarán mis pensamientos y angustias, así lograré emprender libremente mi camino encontrándome a mí misma fuera de laberintos, devolviéndole a mi vida la verdad que contigo no he tenido.

Ahora el tiempo hace que las arrugas se conviertan en espectadoras ante una piel vieja y sola. ¿Sola? La luz tienta la frente que lleva el pensamiento colgado de los días.

Pero yo quiero verte desnudo, sin epitafios, en esta playa que bosqueja en su arena el contenido de los años que estuvimos juntos.

Mira esas gaviotas cómo trazan también su belleza en el aire, su afán por bajar a las algas donde nuestros corazones esperan, todavía pueden pasar barcos azules. Y en el campo, en las vigas del porche cuelga el silencio su poema, una parra solitaria de uva y otoño. Aunque estoy cansada, me siento feliz. El árbol veterano, supongo, dará frutos sabios; una vejez para un encuentro o para una vida desmembrada. Hay una voluntad en los ancianos para que sus cosechas continúen herencia a herencia llenado la tierra con su sangre. (La sangre y el agua es lo que queda para redimirse en el fruto del alma, y así el cuerpo en su espíritu es joven y consistente).

Sé que tu alma se resquebrajó cuando te enteraste de lo ocurrido con nuestra hija, las preocupaciones invadieron tu páncreas y enfermaste; después de un tiempo sanaste. Pero querías controlar mi pensamiento, mi conducta, mi vida, me ahogabas con tu celo y tu inseguridad; pienso que exageraste demasiado con tus emociones, y a las mías intentabas derrocarlas cada vez

que me mostraba sentimental y viva. Los años han colocado a cada uno en su sitio; el marido de tu hija, creo que está en el lugar que le corresponde (no sé, es todo tan sencillo y a la vez tan complicado, los seres humanos nos regimos ante una ley de supervivencia y dominio parecida a la de los animales; Ernesto era como un gatito sensible y cariñoso durante el día, y al anochecer cazaba de manera más cruel e invulnerable). Siempre te ha molestado el parecido de Ernesto contigo; tu hija, sin saberlo, en su subconsciente, emulando a su padre, se enamoró de un hombre con las mismas miserias e infamias, las mismas particularidades. El esposo de nuestra hija se ha comportado como un grosero, lo sé, y le ha hecho mucho daño, a ella, sobre todo, pero las aguas vuelven a su cauce. Tu hija se recuperó, se levantó de su caída, y ahora es una persona nueva. Yo, no sé, quisiera pensar con más claridad sobre mi futuro. (El futuro de la ancianidad existe en las plegarias).

He visto resquebrajarse tu corazón por una luna blanca que te hiela, barbecho de tus venas. Mi aliento va en busca de tu sangre, y por eso te estoy

hablando en un espejismo real entre las cosas más irreales. Mi subconsciente rapta imágenes para resucitar momentos hermosos que también hemos vivido, pero no debo… hay momentos en que me atrevo a pensar que volveremos a estar juntos (que sea la voluntad de Dios, así mi instinto me lo dice), y un día nos encontraremos, pasearemos otra vez por la orilla de la playa, o estaremos allí sentados tranquilamente bajo el porche de la casa del campo. Me gusta imaginar que podríamos hacer esas y otras cosas, quizás sea esta soledad la que me lo provoca, y tal vez recuperados, seguros, alegres, espectadores ambos del horizonte nuevo, te besaría en la frente, y allí, la luz hiciera algo más que capitular en mis labios esos deseos de amor, porque el amor extiende la vida hacia donde pretendamos. (El futuro no es lágrima que aturde las mejillas, sino esperanza por lo que amamos y no muere).

Vuelve a la realidad, me digo.

Y vuelvo a esa situación y me alegro, y me avergüenzo de mí misma por pensar en la posibilidad de volver a estar juntos de nuevo, me pregunto cómo he podido imaginar tal cosa. Cuánto no tendría que

cambiar todo, cuánto no tendrías que cambiar tú. Además, el tiempo pasa. No se puede convivir con alguien cuando un nudo te ahoga, esa cadena donde te atan y no te dejan crecer como ser humano. Pero esta realidad, vuelta del revés en su fantasía, es porque aún te amo, en un amor irracional tal vez, inconveniente, que deja filtrar en mi mente ensueños ya imposibles. Ahora, estás enfermo, y la verdad, deseo con todas mis fuerzas que te recuperes.

Vivimos treinta y nueve años juntos, tenía miedo de salir contigo, a una boda, a un cumpleaños, porque si bebías, todo lo echabas a perder.

Eras contradictorio, inseguro, despreciable, violento, sarcástico, llevamos tantos años separados que ni me acuerdo. Sí, te sigo amando, con un amor distinto, y te perdono. Pero no he dejado de imaginar, ocupada en mi faenas diarias, que viviremos juntos otra vez, sin aprensión; y me enredo en fantasías, buscando a ese joven del que me enamoré una vez, dulce, inteligente, amable y sobrio, sobre todo sobrio, sobrio.

Getting it Right For many writers it is hard to understand exactly what we are signing away when we accept a contract. Can we sell the same piece of work again? If yes, where and how often can it be sold? If no, why not, and have we been paid fairly? The following should help clarify exactly what is meant by each Right offered, because, as writers, we need to make sure we are Getting it Right.

What are Serial Rights?

All writers own the full copyright to their work until those rights have been assigned to a third party. The moment a piece of work is written we automatically own a package of rights which can be broken down into various components. Each part can be sold, or assigned, separately, or you can sell the entire package in one transaction, although this isn’t advisable unless the fee is too good to pass up. Selling All Rights is dealt with in more detail later in the article.

First Serial Rights:

When you sell a publication the right to publish your story, article or poem for the first time, you are assigning to that publication First Serial Rights for the country in which the item will appear. All other rights remain with you. So, if you sell an item with First British Serial Rights and then sell the same piece to an overseas publication, you would subsequently be assigning First North American Serial Rights, First Australian Serial Rights, or First Rights for whichever country you have sold into.

A book publishing contract might contain a clause covering Subsidiary Rights. Subsidiary Rights cover a variety of rights such as (amongst others) anthology and quotation, Braille, computer game, film, video, audiotape, educational, translation, book club, foreign rights. It is advisable to obtain legal assistance with book contracts. If you do not have an agent it is worth contacting The Society of Authors.

Second Serial (Reprint) Rights:

Selling Second Serial Rights means giving a publication the right to publish your work after the piece has already been published elsewhere. You must always state when you are offering reprint rights, as the magazine may believe they are buying First Rights unless you do so.

If you are able to locate several markets for Reprint Rights, you are free to sell your work as often as you wish, as Reprint Rights are nonexclusive. So, let’s say a piece you’ve sold in Britain is subsequently sold to another British magazine, you would offer the new magazine Second Serial Rights. If you then sold the same piece to another country, you could still offer First Serial Rights, but only for the new country.

All Rights:

Selling All Rights means exactly what it says and should only be done when justified by the fee received.

Reader’s Letter Mike from Guadiaro wants to know if it’s important to address editors, agents and publishers by name. He writes: I’ve been told that I should use the person’s name when sending in a submission, but I can’t always find the name I need on a website or in a magazine, so does it really matter if I don’t use the recipient’s name?

It is always worth going to a bit of trouble to try to find out the name of the right person in an organisation.

Firstly, your submission or query is far more likely to land on the right desk if you have used someone’s name. Anything addressed to Dear Agent/Editor/Publisher stands more chance of being left unattended than something correctly addressed.

Secondly, it shows the recipient that you are professional enough to do your homework. If the information you need isn’t readily available, a quick phone call to the organisation asking to whom you should address your submission will pay dividends.

Having said the above, there are some agencies and publishers who state that submissions should go to a department and not a particular person. There is nothing you can do about that, apart from giving yourself a pat on the back for at least trying to do the right thing.

Also appearing will be a great lineup of local bands from Gibraltar and Spain, many of which have honed their performances on the Club’s stage including: Come in

La NBA aterriza este verano en Estepona con el único Estepona albergará el XII campus de baloncesto que celebrará en Europa Campeonato del Mundo Open El Campus JR NBA Gigantes Camp se celebrará en el Pabellón Polideportivo de 2015 de pádel La Lobilla del 29 de junio al 4 de julio La marca que engloba al mejor baloncesto del mundo, la NBA, llega este verano a Estepona con el Campus JR NBA Gigantes CAMP, que será el único evento formativo de estas características apadrinado por la mejor liga del planeta que se celebre en Europa en el periodo estival.

El diputado provincial de Cultura y Deporte, Juan Jesús Bernal, la concejala del área Sociocultural, María Dolores Espinosa, el entrenador de la NBA, Neal Meyer, y el director de la revista 'Gigantes del Basket', David Sardinero, presentaron a finales de abril estel campus de Baloncesto de Verano 'JR NBA Gigantes Camp', que tendrá lugar en el pabellón municipal de 'La Lobilla' entre el 29 de junio y el 4 de julio.

Este campus está organizado por la National Basketball Association (NBA) y la revista 'Gigantes del Basket', y cuenta con la colaboración del Ayuntamiento de Estepona y el colegio San José.

El campus estará dirigido a un total de 250 chicos y chicas de entre 5 y 17 años y las inscripciones ya se pueden realizar en la web la revista Gigantes.

“Estamos muy contentos por ofrecer esta nueva plataforma para jóvenes jugadores y que puedas profundizar en su conocimiento del baloncesto” indicó Meyer, Senior Director of Basketball Operations de NBA EMEA. Neal Meyer incorporará en el campus rutinas reales de entrenamientos NBA. Además se impartirán clínics y sesiones de desarrollo de habilidades

Joining Estepona are Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella and Alhaurin de la Torre who will host the preliminary stages of the competition which will end at the Palacio de los Deportes Jose Maria Martin Carpena in Malaga.

Among the reasons which justified Malaga as the chosen stage for the event, according to the organization, were its great tourist attraction, its status as an

international sports leader, it’s infrastructure and communications, climate and the huge following paddle has in the province, with a large concentration of fans and players.

The tournament will be played in pairs and not by country, so players can participate with their regular partners. For example, the Carolina Navarro from Malaga will compete alongside Argentina’s Cecilia Reiter. The title is at stake every two years and is awarded by the International Federation of Padel in a tournament promoted
