Bienvenidos al número de marzo de The Resident. Finalmente, parece que estamos dejando atrás el invierno ya que las temperaturas están subiendo y los días son más largos. Ciertamente ha sido un invierno para olvidar y personalmente estoy deseando que llegue final de mes y los relojes adelanten una hora, anunciando la llegada de la primavera, mi estación favorita del año. Estamos de lleno en época de carnavales. Siempre alrededor del comienzo de la Cuaresma, el Carnaval es una forma extravagante de deshinibirnos antes de la austeridad de la Cuaresma, que finaliza con la Semana Santa el mes que viene. Manilva celebra su Carnaval este fin de semana, así que no olvides acercarte a Sabinillas el sábado y domingo para disfrutar de un ambiente carnavalesco. Estamos deseando que llegue Semana Santa, y con ella el inicio de la temporada turística. Los trabajos para acondicionar las playas y paseos marítimos de la Costa del Sol están avanzando tras la devastación de las tormentas invernales. Según las autoridades relevantes, todo estará en perfectas condiciones listo para la llegada masiva de visitantes. Este mes es el mes en el que el Gobierno Británico planea fomentar el Artículo 50 y comenzar el proceso por el cual el Reino Unido dejará la Unión Europea. Sin importar si estás a favor o en contra de esta decisión, esto sin duda aumentará las dudas e incertidumbres entre todos los potencialmente afectados, no solo los residentes británicos, sino aquellas personas de todas las nacionalidades que trabajan en Gibraltar, etc. Esta incertidumbre se ve alimentada de los cotilleos, rumores y alarmismo de ciertos elementos de la prensa y los medios, y en una reunión reciente con representantes de los Servicios Consulares Británicos, aquellos a los que nos interesan los hechos tendremos una línea de comunicación mediante la cual pasaremos esos hechos a nuestros lectores. Así que desde el número del mes próximo, ofreceremos actualizaciones sobre el progreso de las negociaciones del Brexit y su impacto para aquellos que vivimos aquí, en el sur de España. Welcome to the March issue of The Resident. Finally we seem to be putting the winter behind us as temperatures rise and the days lengthen. It has certainly been a winter worth forgetting and I can’t wait for the end of this month when the clocks go forward heralding the arrival of Spring, my favourite time of the year. As we go to press we are well into the Carnival season. Always around the beginning of Lent, Carnival is an extravagant letting off of steam before the austerity of Lent, which ends with Easter next month. Manilva is celebrating Carnival this weekend so make sure you get down to Sabinillas on Saturday and Sunday and enjoy the carnival atmosphere. Looking forward to Easter, which heralds the arrival of the tourist season, work is progressing on repairs to the Costa del Sol’s beaches and promenades, which suffered such devastation during the winter storms. According to the relevant authorities everything should be in tip-top condition ready for the first main influx of visitors. This month is the month that the British Government plans to trigger Article 50 and so begin the process by which the United Kingdom will leave the European Union. Regardless of whether you are for or against this decision, this will no doubt increase the concern and uncertainty amongst all those potentially affected, not just the British residents, but those people of all nationalities working in Gibraltar, etc. This uncertainty has been compounded by gossip, rumours, and scaremongering from certain elements of the press and media, and at a recent meeting with representatives of the British Consular Services, those of us interested in the facts were promised a line of communication with which we can pass those facts onto our readers. So beginning in next month’s issue we will provide an update on progress of the Brexit negotiations and their impact on those of us living here in the South of Spain. El casco de Casares se revitaliza con el proyecto de regeneración del Llano

El delegado del Gobierno andaluz y el alcalde han visitado las obras que se realizan a través del programa “Ciudad Amable”

l delegado del Gobierno andaluz, José Luis Ruiz Espejo, el alcalde de Casares, José Carrasco, y el delegado territorial de Fomento y Vivienda, Francisco Fernández España, han visitado hoy las obras del Programa Ciudad Amable que supone una inversión de 151.000 euros en el municipio, de los que 120.000 euros son aportados por la Consejería de Fomento y Vivienda y 31.000 por el Ayuntamiento de Casares. El delegado del Gobierno andaluz ha señalado que esta actuación supone la reordenación de la plaza del Llano, una de las principales puertas de acceso al casco histórico de Casares. Ruiz Espejo ha indicado que Ciudad Amable considera al peatón como eje del programa funcional, recuperando el espacio público que ha sido invadido por el vehículo privado, y devolviéndole la seguridad y comodidad

perdida. El alcalde se ha referido a que con este proyecto Casares gana un nuevo espacio para el disfrute de los vecinos, con más arboleda, nuevo mobiliario público, y que quedará unido a la Plaza Marcelino Camacho, mejorando así la accesibilidad. Tras la visita las obras del Llano, en la que también han participado el teniente de alcalde de Infraestructuras Guzman Ahumada y el concejal de la oposición Antonio Muñoz, la comitiva se ha dirigido a la zona del Castillo para conocer como están transcurriendo los trabajos de rehabilitación de las 27 viviendas públicas. El alcalde, Pepe Carrasco ha agradecido a los delegados su interés por el desarrollo de estas obras, y ha dicho que también espera su visita para la inauguración de los dos espacios próximamente.

After the visit the works at the Plaza del Llano, the group visited the Castle area to see how the restoration work is going on to the 27 public housing units there. The mayor, Pepe Carrasco thanked the delegates for their interest in the development of these works, and invited them to return for the opening of the two areas.

Abierto el plazo de inscripción para la carrera CxM Villa de Casares Ya se ha abierto el plazo de inscripción para la Carrera CxM Villa de Casares, una prueba de atletismo enmarcada en el Circuito Provincial de Carreras Populares que se celebrará en el municipio

el próximo domingo 23 de abril. Los interesados en participar en este evento deportivo ya pueden realizar sus inscripciones en la página web www.fedatletismoandaluz.net, los precios ron-

dan entre los 15 y los 20 euros dependiendo de la modalidad. La prueba engloba tres modalidades: Peque Trail, que supone un recorrido de entre 500 metros y 1 kilómetro, Iniciación con una longitud de 12 kilómetros y CxM Casares de 24 kilómetros. Según ha explicado el concejal de Deporte, Nicolás Morales, la prueba contempla este año algunos cambios, por un lado la subida a Sierra Crestellina se realizará por otro recorrido y por otro lado, la prueba principal la CxM Casares se amplía hasta los 24 kilómetros. El edil confía en que la participación en esta prueba sea mayor aún que la de el año pasado, ya que, el evento coincide con las Jornadas Gastronómicas de Casares, lo que puede suponen un importante atractivo para los visitantes. Este evento está organizado por el Ayuntamiento de Casares en colaboración con la asociación “Sierra Bermeja Trail”, la Federación Andaluza de Atletismo y la Diputación de Málaga.

Entries invited for the Casares CxM Race The registration period has opened for the Carrera CxM Villa de Casares run, an athletic event which is part of the Provincial Circuit of Popular Races and is to be held in Casares on Sunday 23 April. Those interested in participating in this event can already make their inscriptions on the website www. fedatletismoandaluz.net, with entry costing around 15 to 20 euros depending on the category. The trial includes three categories: Peque Trail, which is run over a course of between 500 metres and a kilometre; Initiation with a course length of 12 kilometres; and CxM Casares over 24 kilometres. La Concejalía de Residentes Extranjeros realiza una campaña informativa sobre la importancia de confirmar la residencia Se trata de una trámite necesario para continuar empadronado en Casares. Y deben realizarlo todas las personas que vivan en Casares más de 6 meses al año. Desde la Concejalía de Residentes Extranjeros se está realizando una campaña informativa puerta a puerta para transmitir a los extranjeros la necesidad de confirmar que mantienen su residencia en el municipio, ya que en caso de no hacer este trámite el Instituto Nacional de Estadística podría darlos de baja del padrón municipal. Para poder llegar a todos los residentes desde el Ayuntamiento se envían cartas, pero además se

están coordinando los trabajos con administradores de fincas y comunidades de vecinos para poder llegar a todos los residentes, entregándoles a muchos de ellos la documentación en mano. Inscribirse como residentes es necesario para estar empadronados en el municipio. Además Los extranjeros deben confirmar cada 5 años que continúan residiendo en el municipio, en caso contrario se les daría de baja del

padrón. Casares cuenta actualmente con un total de 6.709 habitantes, de los que 2.551 son extranjeros de más de 80 nacionalidades distintas. Más de la mitad de estos residentes, 1362, son de Reino Unido, seguidos muy de lejos por rumanos (133 personas) y marroquíes que son 100. Procedentes de Alemania son 92 los residentes, luego van italianos (89) e irlandeses (80).

Los trabajos se han dilatado en el tiempo, pues como explica la concejala de Cultura, era necesario contar con la autorización de la Consejería de Cultura de la Junta de Andalucía ya que la Torre de la Sal está catalogada como Bien de Interés Cultural. Desde el consistorio se enviaron escritos a los órganos competentes, Consejería de Cultura y a Demarcación de Costa, a finales del pasado mes de junio para informales de los actos vandálicos sufridos en esta antigua torre de vigilancia. Y requiriendo que se pudiesen reparar los daños con la máxima urgencia para impedir que afecten al resto del monumento. La Torre de la Sal cuenta con dos alturas, y además tiene la peculiaridad de poseer una planta cuadrada, lo que la diferencia del resto de torres defensivas que nos encontramos a lo largo de la costa. El Hospital de Alta Resolución de Estepona atenderá 85.000 consultas, 91.000 urgencias y 4.000 intervenciones quirúrgicas al año

El edificio, de 14.300 metros cuadrados de superficie construida, dispondrá de área Quirúrgica, Urgencias con zona pediátrica y helisuperficie, Hospitalización Polivalente, Consultas, Diagnóstico, Diagnóstico por Imagen, Biotecnología, Aparato Locomotor, Uso del Medicamento, Prevención y zonas administrativas. El alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, y el consejero de Salud de la Junta de Andalucía, Aquilino Alonso, han presentado el proyecto del Hospital de Alta Resolución de Estepona. El regidor ha destacado que la construcción y puesta en funcionamiento de este equipamiento es “un hito para Estepona”, con la que, sin ninguna duda, “va a ser la infraestructura más importante de las últimas décadas”. Así, ha destacado que “supone una valiosa mejora en la calidad del servicio sanitario” para los ciudadanos. Asimismo, se ha mostrado satisfecho por ver cumplida una de las principales demandas ciudadanas; al tiempo que ha agradecido la disposición

y colaboración de la Junta de Andalucía para atender las necesidades de la ciudad. García Urbano ha recordado que las obras de construcción de este complejo sanitario se encuentran en fase de licitación, por un importe de 17,7 millones de euros. La duración de la obra está estimada en 22 meses y se ejecutará conforme al proyecto básico y de ejecución, supervisado por el Servicio Andaluz de Salud (SAS). Todo ello, de acuerdo al convenio entre el Ayuntamiento de Estepona y el SAS -firmado el pasado 19 de diciembre- en virtud del cual, el Ayuntamiento asume la construcción del nuevo centro hospitalario; así como los gastos de urbanización necesarios. Por otro lado, el SAS

será responsable de la dotación y la puesta en funcionamiento del hospital, así como de los gastos de mantenimiento que se deriven a partir de su apertura. Por su parte, el consejero de Salud ha señalado que este proyecto es “ejemplo de la importancia que tiene la colaboración entre instituciones para alcanzar mayores cuotas de bienestar para la ciudadanía” y también ha destacado “la necesidad de contar con los gobiernos locales en la definición de políticas importantes para la vida de los vecinos, como es la sanitaria”. Aquilino Alonso ha agradecido el impulso dado por García Urbano a la construcción del futuro Hospital, así como el consenso e implicación de todas las fuerzas políticas representadas en el Ayuntamiento” y ha insistido en que “este trabajo de consenso y colaboración ha hecho posible que, en Andalucía, contemos con una amplia red de recursos que permiten acercar la asistencia sanitaria a la población. En este sentido, ha manifestado que el objetivo de los hospitales de alta resolución es acercar la atención hospitalaria a la población para evitar el mayor número de desplazamientos a los hospitales de referencia de la capital. Los Hospitales de Alta Resolución responden a un concepto organizativo que incorpora el concepto de Consulta de Acto Único, dirigido a que todas las pruebas y exploraciones necesarias se realicen -a ser posible- en un acto único y con la mayor brevedad, disminuyendo los tiempos de espera y potenciando la atención

sanitaria urgente. Por otra parte, incorpora los avances de la tecnología que favorecen la implantación en estos hospitales de la cirugía mayor ambulatoria, lo que permite que la estancia hospitalaria del enfermo se pueda y se deba reducir de forma significativa. El futuro equipamiento, que se ubicará en el sector Santa María, en la zona más occidental del municipio, tendrá una superficie construida de 14.300 metros cuadrados sobre una parcela de 60.166 metros cuadrados. El edificio dispone de un acceso principal, enfrentado al acceso peatonal desde la calle, próximo a la zona de aparcamiento. Se abre hacia la parte central del edificio, transcurriendo a través de una calle interior con patios ajardinados. El vestíbulo con una doble y triple altura e iluminación cenital a través de las cristaleras accesibles desde la cubierta.

Se han desarrollado dos áreas de circulación vertical independientes: una para personal y enfermos, que relacionan entre sí las Áreas de Urgencias, Radiología, Hospitalización, Quirúrgica, así como Consultas Externas con el Área Radiológica y el Área de la Mujer. Y se dispone otro acceso público desde el vestíbulo que tiene fácil acceso directo a todas las Áreas de Espera de los diferentes servicios sanitarios. Las Urgencias, cuenta con una Zona Pediátrica con circulaciones separadas así como esperas de familiares, con acceso al exterior de forma inmediata, y Espera de Usuarios con acceso controlado. El programa se desarrolla, en su mayor parte en planta baja, articulando a través de una calle-galería, todas las Área Funcionales de carácter asistencial y estableciéndose en una planta inferior, con acceso rodado a través de una calle interior, las áreas no asistenciales.

Estepona”. Daniel Casares comenzó su carrera musical a muy temprana edad, consiguiendo a lo largo de su carrera los premios de guitarra más importantes a nivel nacional. Casares ha recorrido los escenarios más importantes de todo el mundo y ha colaborado con artistas de la talla de Alejandro Sanz, Miguel Poveda o José Mercé. Con su último trabajo ‘Picassares’, que homenajea al pintor Pablo Picasso, ha obtenido excelentes críticas. Por otra parte, Alejandro Simón Partal, doctor en Filología Hispánica por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y vinculado como investigador a la Universidad de Salamanca, ha desarrollado su labor investigadora y de docencia en universidades internacionales. Autor de varios poemarios como ‘Los himnos abdominales’ y considerado una de las voces más singulares de las letras españolas, ha conseguido recientemente el Premio Internacional de Poesía Arcipreste de Hita con su última obra ‘La fuerza viva’. En el caso de la cantaora y compositora Ana Fargas, se ha valorado tanto su labor divulgativa del flamenco a través de

la escuela ‘El Patio’ como su exitosa trayectoria en certámenes flamencos como la Bienal de Málaga, el Festival de Jóvenes Flamencos de San Pedro del Pinatar o el Festival del Cante de las Minas de la Unión. Además, en colaboración con el instituto Cervantes realizó una gira internacional con el espectáculo ‘Novissimo’, que la llevó a escenarios de ciudades como París, Londres o Leed. Por último, se ha entregado la distinción a Inocencio Alarcón por su iniciativa para que en la declaración de la renta exista la opción de una casilla destinada a la investigación contra el cáncer, enfermedad de la que murió su hija con tan sólo cinco años. Alarcón ha conseguido en 10 meses de campaña de recogidas de firmas en la plataforma digital Change.org más de 630.000 rúbricas, que se entregaron en el Ministerio de Sanidad el pasado 2 de febrero. Asimismo, se ha realizado una mención especial a la entidad benéfica ‘Emaús Obra de Amor’, que está al frente del comedor social de Estepona, por su labor solidaria con quienes se encuentran en una mayor situación de vulnerabilidad.

El Ayuntamiento presenta la V Carrera Urbana "10 Km Estepona" que suma una nueva prueba con menos kilómetros El concejal adscrito a la delegación de Deportes, Adrián Trujillo, el presidente del Club Atletismo local, Javier Bermúdez, y el presidente del Rotary Club Estepona, David Fournier, han presentado hoy la quinta edición de la Carrera Urbana '10 Km Estepona', que se celebrará en la localidad el domingo, 2 de abril. El edil ha anunciado como novedad la incorporación de una prueba de menor recorrido - 5 kilómetros - que dará la oportunidad de participar a todas aquellas personas que por sus capacidades físicas o falta de entrenamiento no puedan llevar a cabo carrera absoluta de 10 kilómetros, “lo que supondrá también un aumento en el número de participantes con respecto a otros años”. Asimismo, el responsable municipal ha destacado el carácter benéfico que tiene siempre esta competición, que este año recaudará fondos para la Asociación de Víctimas de Autismo, además de recoger alimentos para el Comedor Social 'Emaús' gracias a la aportación de 1 kilo de alimento que realiza cada participante. Además, durante la Carrera Ur-

bana se reivindicará que Sierra Bermeja sea declarada Parque Nacional. El Ayuntamiento reparte más de 70.000 entradas gratuitas a los empadronados para visitar el Parque Selwo Aventura El Ayuntamiento de Estepona repartirá un total de 70.082 entradas para que los ciudadanos empadronados en la ciudad puedan visitar gratuitamente las instalaciones del parque Selwo Aventura, que el pasado viernes inició la nueva temporada. Las invitaciones son posibles gracias a un acuerdo de colaboración firmado entre el Consistorio y Parques Reunidos, la empresa responsable del recinto, según ha explicado hoy el alcalde, José María García Urbano. El regidor ha señalado que Selwo Aventura se ha convertido en uno de los enclaves símbolos de la localidad y “de visita obligada para los turistas, ya que es uno de los mejores parques de animales

de Andalucía”. En ese sentido, ha indicado que el Parque creó un verdadero foco de atracción turística y de creación de empleo; se ha convertido en una de las principales ofertas de ocio del municipio y ha subrayado que “ayuda a diferenciarnos de otros destinos turísticos y a completar el proyecto ‘Estepona, Jardín de la Costa del Sol’”. La directora del Parque Selwo Aventura, María José Marañón, que ha hecho entrega al alcalde de las entradas, ha animado a los ciudadanos a que conozcan estas instalaciones, que están “vivas y siempre con novedades”. Arranca la IX Subida Automovilística de Montaña IV Expo Tattoo Estepona 2017 Será los días 31 de marzo y 1,2 europeos e internacionales “Estepona- Puerto de Peñas Blancas” El Ayuntamiento de Estepona, a través del Área Sociocultural y Servicios, informa que los mejores pilotos del panorama nacional y andaluz del automovilismo de montaña volverán a Estepona los próximos días 10, 11 y 12 de marzo para disputar la novena edición de la Subida Automovilística Estepona-Peñas Blancas 2017, prueba puntuable tanto

para el Campeonato de España de Montaña como para el Campeonato de Andalucía. Con 7,6 kilómetros de recorrido, la Subida Automovilística al puerto de montaña de Peñas Blancas, es la más larga de las ocho pruebas del Campeonato de España, con un total de 3 mangas el sábado (24 Km) y otras 3 el domingo (24 km), un

desnivel de 481 metros y una pendiente máxima del 12,39%. Además, el trazado de la prueba permite contemplar unas espectaculares vistas de la Costa del Sol, el Estrecho de Gibraltar y el norte de África. Como novedad, el evento deportivo se integrará en el casco urbano, ya que durante la tarde y noche del viernes 10, los vehículos permanecerán expuestos al público en el Paseo Marítimo, donde tendrán lugar las verificaciones administrativas y técnicas. Por primera vez, el popular cruce de C/ Real con C/ Terraza (“Paseíllo”) acogerá una ceremonia de salida a las 21:00 horas, donde se presentarán a los principales participantes de la edición 2017. And a maximum incline of 12.39% Estepona will play host to the best drivers in the national and Andalucian mountain motor racing scene when the “Estepona - Puerto de Peñas Blancas” Hill Climb returns to the town on 10, 11 and 12 March for its ninth edition, a scoring trial for both the Spanish Mountain Championships and the Andalucian Championship. El Ayuntamiento presenta el nuevo programa del Auditorio Felipe VI con medio centenar de espectáculos para todos los públicos El teniente alcalde del área Sociocultural y Servicios del Ayuntamiento de Estepona, Blas Ruzafa, y el nuevo director del Auditorio Felipe VI, José Luis Moreno, han presentado la programación de este equipamiento cultural para los próximos meses, que incluye medio centenar de espectáculos y actividades dirigidas a todo tipo de públicos. El edil ha valorado que la nueva concesionaria ‘Malvavisco Digital S.L’, que gestionará el recinto durante los próximos dos años, relanzará el Auditorio Felipe VI con una amplia agenda de eventos, que contempla desde obras de teatro, musicales y óperas hasta conciertos, ballets o espectáculos de magia. Entre las actividades previstas destacan los musicales ‘Don Juan. Un musical a sangre y fuego’ de Ignacio García, que durante meses ha sido representado con éxito en la Gran Vía de Madrid, ‘Viva Broadway’, que recorrerá a través de 25 números musicales algunos hitos de este género como ‘Grease’, ‘Mamma Mía’, ‘Cabaret’ o ‘Chicago’ (7 y 8 de marzo), ‘Aladdin. El musical’

o ‘Peter Pan’, que se encuentra actualmente de gira por varios países latinoamericanos tras conseguir el apoyo del público en Madrid. Por otra parte, el Auditorio Felipe VI acogerá la ópera ‘Madame Butterfly’ de Giacomo Puccini, que será representada por el teatro de la Ópera Nacional de Moldavia el próximo 23 de marzo. Además de espectáculos musicales, Estepona podrá disfrutar durante este año de grandes nombres de la escena española como Maria Luisa Merlo con la obra cómica para toda la familia ‘Cosas de papá y mamá’ (28 de abril), Rafael Álvarez ‘El Brujo’ (Medalla de Oro de las Bellas Artes) o Josema Yuste (ex miembro del dúo cómico Martes y Trece), que representará junto a Sergio Fernández ‘El Monaguillo’ la obra de teatro ‘Taxi’. Otra de las novedades para este año será la programación de dos conciertos sinfónicos que tendrán lugar en Año Nuevo y en Reyes, siguiendo así una tradición musical que existe en numerosas ciudades europeas.

Asimismo, el humor también tendrá su espacio en este calendario de actuaciones con la representación del monólogo ‘De cañas’ con el actor y cómico Enrique San Francisco, con un espectáculo del actor malagueño Salva Reina ‘En ocasiones veo a Umberto’ (6 de mayo) y con la obra ‘Yo no soy Julio Iglesias… y lo sabes!’ de Jesús Cisneros (24 de marzo). Por otra parte, José Luis Moreno ha anunciado que el próximo 16 de marzo se abrirá la cafetería del recinto al público con el objetivo de convertirla en un café-teatro todos los fines de semana. El empresario también ha explicado que se va a lanzar el bono 25X25, con el que por sólo 25 euros los usuarios del Auditorio podrán descontarse un 25 por ciento en el precio de las entradas durante todo el año. En caso de que el propietario del bono asista más de siete veces al Auditorio Felipe VI, la concesionaria le devolverá el dinero del mismo. Para completar la programación para los próximos meses, la nueva concesionaria ha organizado

dos festivales, uno de títeres y otro de magia que contempla espectáculos nacionales e internacionales para el público familiar, el concierto del violinista flamenco Paco Montalvo, que

Este fin de semana se celebra El Carnaval en la localidad Este fin de semana se celebran los carnavales en nuestra localidad, organizados por el área de cultura que dirige la edil Eva Galindo, y con múltiples novedades introducidas para esta edición. Las actividades se desarrollarán en la plaza de los Maestros en Sabinillas, donde durante estos días previos se instala la carpa que acogerá las distintas iniciativas. Se contará también en la zona de la colonia con diversas atracciones infantiles para el disfrute de los más pequeños. El sábado 11 de marzo se iniciará el carnaval local con la cabalgata por los tres núcleos de población. De esta manera, recorrerá Manilva desde las cuatro de la tarde, para pasar una hora después por el Castillo de la Duquesa y finalizar en Sabinillas a partir de las cinco y media de la tarde. Desde las cuatro y media, estarán abiertas en la carpa de la plaza de los Maestros, las inscripciones para el concurso/sorteo de disfraces infantiles. Todos los niños inscritos recibirán su correspondiente merienda. A las seis de la tarde dará comienzo la animación musical

infantil con juegos, globoflexia, pintacaras y la actuación de la escuela de expresión corporal de Jessica Quiñones. Toda la tarde estará ambientada con talleres infantiles para los más pequeños. A las siete de la tarde se pondrá en marcha el gran sorteo de premios. A las ocho y media se dará paso a la actuación de chirigotas y comparsas con los Cantazinfundos “La chirigota del Pelu” de nuestra localidad, las chirigotas “Que vienen los niños” y “Este año tengo mono de carnaval”, ambas de la Línea y desde esta misma localidad la comparsa “La Fortaleza” A las once de la noche se abrirán las inscripciones para el concurso de disfraces de adultos, que dará comienzo sobre las doce de la noche. Se han establecido tres premios de 150, 100 y 50€, para los tres mejores disfraces individuales y otros tres de 350, 200 y 100€, para el apartado de colectivos. La fiesta continuará a partir de la una de la madrugada con música a cargo de un dj. Las actividades preparadas para el domingo día 12 de marzo, son una apuesta común de las

tres Ampas locales, incentivada por el propio Ayuntamiento de Manilva. La fiesta de carnaval de estos colectivos dará comienzo en la plaza Vicente Espinel de Sabinillas a partir de las once de la mañana. Los pequeños que se inscriban en el pasacalles recibirán una pulsera, previo pago, con la cual podrán disfrutar de castillos hinchables y diversos talleres durante toda el día. Todo lo recaudado será utilizado para la compra de material en los colegios. Los socios de las AMPAS pagarán 1€, mientras que los que no lo sean abonarán 3. El pasacalles con todos los participantes se iniciará en torno a las doce y media de la tarde y la fiesta continuará en la carpa de la plaza de los maestros a partir de la una y media de la tarde con animación musical, juegos infantiles y atracciones, durante toda la jornada. A las cuatro de la tarde arrancará el concurso de disfraces infantiles. Se entregará un segundo premio de una tablet y un primero de un móvil, para los dos mejores disfraces individuales y un único premio de un bono a parque

Carnival comes to Manilva this weekend This weekend Manilva celebrates Carnival. Organized by the culture department, headed by Councillor Eva Galindo, with many new features introduced for this edition. The activities will take place in the Plaza de los Maestros on the Promenade near the school in Sabinillas, where a marquee will be installed that will be the venue for the different activities and events. All proceeds will be used for the purchase of material in local schools. The AMPAS members will pay € 1, while non-members will pay € 3. The parade with all the participants will begin at around 12.30 pm and the party will continue in the marquee at the Plaza de los Maestros with musical entertainment, children's games and attractions during the whole day. At 4 pm the children's fancy dress contest will start. There is a second prize of a tablet and a first prize of a mobile, for the two best individual costumes and a single prize of a ticket to the water park plus food, for the group category. At 5 pmn the afternoon La Mancha chirigota "Los Catazinfundos" will put the finishing touch to the Manilva carnival.

El Concejal de Residentes Extranjeros de Manilva asiste a una reunión con los responsables del Consulado Británico

na delegación de personal del Gabinete de Exteriores, incluyendo la Directora de Servicios Consulares, Julia Longbottom, responsable de todas las oficinas consulares de todo el mundo, Gerard McGuirk, Director Regional Consultar para el Sur de Europa,

junto con el Cónsul Británico para Andalucía, Canarias y Baleares, Charmaine Arbouin y la Vice Cónsul Rosslyn Crotty, se reunieron recientemente en Mijas con residentes británicos, miembros de la prensa y medios locales, concejales locales y representantes de los grupos de expatriados y firmas legales.

La reunión, organizada en colaboración con el grupo de Facebook “Brexpats in Spain”, tenía como objetivo informar al Gobierno Británico sobre las dudas de los británicos que viven en España en relación con la situación tras el Brexit. Durante una breve introducción, el panel declaró que en este momento no había ninguna información disponible en relación a las negociaciones, y cualquier mención de lo contrario debería ignorarse ya que solo son rumores. A continuación se abrió una ronda de preguntas: Dean Tyler Shelton, Concejal de Comercio y Residentes Extranjeros de Manilva, señaló que la situación en nuestro rincón de la Costa tenía la incertidumbre añadida sobre la salida de Gibraltar de la UE junto con Gran Bretaña, y cómo esto afectaría a los miles de trabajadores, no sólo británicos sino también españoles y de otras nacionalidades, que trabajan en Gibraltar y viven en España, y que dependen de su empleo

en la Roca. El panel comentó que conocen la situación de Gibraltar y que ése era uno de los elementos clave que estaban considerando. Otro tema del que se habló era el hecho de que aunque el Gobierno Británico dice que nada ha cambiado aún, para muchos de los británicos que viven en Europa las cosas sí que han cambiado. Una persona en la audiencia comentó cómo su negocio en España centrado principalmente en el residente británico, que estaba intentando vender para jubilarse, esencialmente ya no tenía valor, ya que la incertidumbre sobre el futuro lo había hecho casi imposible de vender. Como alguien que ha vivido en España durante más de 15 años, y por tanto un observador frustrado en el referéndum de la UE, pregunté al panel en qué punto se encontraba el Gobierno para dar a los británicos que viven en el extranjero el derecho a votar de por vida. Aunque es demasiado tarde para el Brexit,

el panel nos explicó que esperan que la ley cambie hacia el 2020. Otro hecho interesante fue en respuesta a las dudas relacionadas con el impuesto de sucesiones, y si los residentes británicos podrían decidir adoptar las reglas de sucesión británicas, o si se aplicarán las normas españolas. Los abogados presentes nos tranquilizaron diciendo que no es una ley de la UE y que nada cambiará por tanto como resultado del Brexit. Para resumir la reunión, el sentir general fue que el Gabinete de Exteriores necesitaba usar los medios y grupos de ex-patriados locales para ofrecer información actualizada y precisa en relación a la situación, incluso si ello significa desacreditar rumores y conjeturas en algunos de los periódicos más sensacionalistas. Tras la reunión, el Concejal Dean Shelton habló con el Cónsul Británico y el Vice Cónsul para organizar un seminario en Manilva. Os informaremos una vez que las fechas estén confirmadas.

Manilva’s Councillor for Foreign Residents attends a meeting with British Consular officials

delegation of Foreign Office personnel, including the Directory of Consular Services, Julia Longbottom, who is responsible for every consular office worldwide, Gerard McGuirk, Consular Regional Director for Southern Europe, along with the British Consul for Andalucia, The Canaries & Balearics, Charmaine Arbouin, and Vice-Consul Rosslyn Crotty, recently met in Mijas with local British residents, members of the local press and media, local councillors and representatives of local Expat groups and legal firms. The meeting, which had been arranged in collaboration with the Facebook group ‘Brexpats in Spain’ aimed to give the British Government information about the concerns of those British nationals living in Spain regarding their situation post-Brexit. During a brief introduction the panel stated that at the moment there was no information available regarding the negotiations, and any reports to the contrary should be ignored as hearsay and rumour. The floor was then opened to questions from the floor: Dean Tyler Shelton, Manilva Councillor for Commerce and Foreign Residents, pointed out that the

situation at our end of the Coast had the added uncertainty about Gibraltar leaving the EU along with Britain and how this would affect the thousands of, not just British workers living within the commuter belt, but other nationalities, including Spaniards who rely on the Rock for employment. The panel commented that they were very aware of the Gibraltar situation and that, that was one of the key elements that they already have strongly in their sights. Another topic which was brought up was the fact that whilst we keep hearing from the British Government that nothing has as yet changed, it was stressed that for many of us living in Europe things have already changed. One person in the audience told of how his predominantly British resident focussed business in Spain, which he was in the process of selling so as to retire, was now essentially worthless as the uncertainty over the future has made it unsellable. As a person who has lived in Spain for more than 15 years, and therefore a frustrated bystander in the EU Referendum, I asked the panel where the Government was at with moves to give Brits living overseas a vote for life. Although

too late to make any difference to Brexit, the panel were able to tell us that they expect legislation to go through by 2020. Another interesting fact was in answer to concerns regarding inheritance tax, and whether British residents will still be able to elect to adopt British rules of succession, or whether Spanish rules will apply.

Lawyers in the meeting were able to reassure us that it is not EU legislation and therefore nothing will change as a result of Brexit. In summing up the meeting it was generally agreed that the Foreign Office needed to use local media outlets and expat groups to provide up-to-date and accurate information regarding the situation,

even if that means just debunking rumours and conjecture in some of the more sensationalist press outlets. Following the meeting, Councillor Dean Shelton spoke with British Consul and Vice-Consul to discuss organising a seminar in Manilva. We will let you know more about it once the dates are confirmed.

Primera toma de contacto para la realización del XI Encuentro Internacional Hace unos días se celebraba en el edificio de Usos Múltiples de Sabinillas, una reunión entre el delegado municipal de Extranjeros, Dean Tyler Shelton y personas representativas de diferentes nacionalidades, a fin de ir concretando como será esta año el Encuentro Internacional en nuestro municipio. Representantes de unos 30 países se dieron cita en esta reunión en la que se marcaron las pautas a seguir para la recuperación de un evento que el edil de Residentes Extranjeros pretende consolidar en el tiempo. Shelton adelantó que con la celebración de esta iniciativa se pretende no solo atraer a los vecinos, sino también a personas de la comarca que puedan disfrutar de una actividad tan interesante. A lo largo del encuentro se habló tanto de presupuesto como de los preparativos del evento. El XI Encuentro Internacional

de Manilva 2017, se llevará entre los días 13 y 14 de mayo en la plaza de la Vendimia en Manilva. Dean Tyler Shelton, está muy ilusionado con esta gran celebración entre culturas y anima a participar activamente a todas las personas que lo deseen.

Como recordaba el edil se pretende recuperar una actividad que se ha venido celebrando durante varios años en el municipio y que tras un parón se vuelve a retomar, para poner sobre la mesa que Manilva es un municipio intercultural donde llegan a convivir hasta 80 nacionalidades.

Planning meeting held for this year’s XI International Festival A few days ago, a meeting was held in the council offices in Sabinillas between Manilva’s Councillor for Foreign Residents, Dean Tyler Shelton, and representatives from the many different nationalities living in the municipality, in order to begin planning for this year’s International Festival to be held between 13 and 14 May in the Plaza de la Vendimia in Manilva. Representatives from some 30 countries gathered at this meeting which discussed the format that the festival would take this year and going forward. This will be the eleventh edition of this popular festival, and the plan is to re-establish this annual celebration of Manilva’s cosmopolitan community after an absence of several year's. Councillor Shelton said that the International Festival is intended not only to attract local residents, but to draw in people from across the region to enjoy the activities and entertainment on offer.

Throughout the meeting both the budget and the preparations for the event were discussed. Councillor Dean Tyler Shelton, would like to encourage participation from all those of the 80 different nationalities that make up the local foreign community, over 40% of the registered population, to create a great event which can grow over the coming years.

NOVEDADES SOBRE CLAUSULAS SUELO Nuevo procedimiento extrajudicial Tras las recientes resoluciones adoptadas tanto por los tribunales españoles como el europeo en el asunto de las clausulas suelo, la balanza se inclina más a favor de los clientes o deudores hipotecarios. El pasado mes de diciembre de 2016 el Tribunal Europeo ha confirmado que los clientes afectados por estas clausulas tienen derecho a que le sean devueltas todas las cantidades pagadas de mas desde el inicio de su contrato de préstamo y no exclusivamente desde 2013 como estaban resolviendo los tribunales españoles últimamente. La razón de ello es muy sencilla, si una clausula es nula, lo es desde el principio y no puede convalidarse ni con el paso del tiempo ni de ninguna otra manera. A pesar de ello, aun hay algunos bancos reacios a devolver el dinero a sus clientes. A raíz de la última sentencia el gobierno español ha adoptado una nueva norma (RD-Ley 1/2017) en previsión de la gran cantidad de reclamaciones que se van a producir, para regular un procedimiento extrajudicial gratuito de reclamación de cantidades pagadas indebidamente a causa de las clausulas suelo. Los puntos más importantes de esta norma son:

1. Es de aplicación únicamente a los contratos de préstamo firmados con consumidores. 2. Prevé un plazo de 1 mes para que las entidades bancarias creen un departamento específico para este tipo de reclamaciones. Los bancos deberán informar a los clientes a través de qué medios pueden iniciar el procedimiento y de su existencia. 3. Una vez presentada la reclamación el banco dispone de 3 meses para responder de forma al cliente. 4. Si el cliente acepta la oferta el banco deberá acordar la devolución en efectivo. 5. Las devoluciones pueden generar obligaciones tributarias y los bancos deberán informar de las mismas. 6. Se podrá acordar una medida distinta como por ejemplo compensar el capital pendiente con la cantidad que le deben devolver al cliente por las clausulas suelo. Para ello el banco debe proporcionar información suficiente al cliente para que pueda valorar económicamente esa opción. 7. Si el cliente no está conforme con la cantidad que se le ofrece puede reclamar ante los tribunales, teniendo presente

que puede ser condenado a pagar las costas.

Gastos de la hipoteca En los últimos días también se han dado otros pronunciamientos por parte de los tribunales españoles referente a la posibilidad de declarar nula otra clausula muy común en los contratos de préstamo, la clausula de los gastos de la hipoteca. Concretamente en lo referente a los gastos de notaria, registro y el impuesto pagado, derivados de la escritura de préstamo. Básicamente los tribunales establecen que es abusivo hacer pagar al cliente todos estos gastos cuando el interesado en que se inscriba el préstamo sea el banco. Tengan en cuenta que el nuevo procedimiento aprobado recientemente no sirve para reclamar estos gastos. El cliente tendrá que negociar con el banco y ante la negativa la única posibilidad es ir a los tribunales.

Contratos privados con el banco

Con anterioridad a la sentencia del TJUE de diciembre de 2016 muchas entidades bancarias han firmado con sus clientes contratos privados en los cuales se acordaba eliminar la clausula suelo a cambio de un tipo de interés fijo y renunciando a reclamar las cantidades que les corresponden por las clausulas suelo. En esos caso puede ser más complicado y costoso recuperar las cantidades pagadas de mas por las clausulas suelo pero no imposible. Recientemente se han dado sentencias de tribunales españoles declarando la nulidad de dichos contratos. Para evitar que los bancos sigan cometiendo estos abusos recomendamos a los clientes que utilicen los servicios de un profesional. THE LATEST NEWS ON FLOOR CLAUSES (CLAUSULA SUELO) New out-of-court procedure The recent resolutions adopted by both the Spanish and European courts regarding floor clauses, have tipped the balance to favor the mortgage or loan holder, i.e. the debtor, rather than the bank or mortgage company. Last December 2016 the European Court confirmed that the clients affected by these clauses are entitled to be reimbursed all of the overpaid amounts paid from the beginning of their loan agreement, and not only from 2013 as the Spanish courts were awarding previously. The reason for this is very simple, once a clause in any agreement is judged to be null, then it has always been null, and a fixed period of when it was not cannot be justified by any means. Despite this, there are still some banks reluctant to return the money to their customers. Following the latest sentence the Spanish government has adopted a new rule, (RD-Law 1/2017), in anticipation of the large number of claims that will occur, and to regulate an out-of-court procedure for claiming amounts unduly paid because of the floor clauses. The most important points of this rule are: 1. It applies only to loan/mortgage agreements signed with consumers. 2. It allows a period of 1 month for the banking entities to create a specific department for this type of claim. Banks should then inform clients of its existence and of how to go about reclaiming the amounts due. 3. Once the claim has been filed, the bank has 3 months to respond to the client. 4. If the client accepts the bank’s offer the refund should be paid in cash. 5. Refunds may generate some tax obligations and the banks should inform the client of this. 6. It is acceptable too, to agree to reduce the capital owed by the amount of the refund due. In order to do this the bank must provide sufficient information to the client to enable them to evaluate that option and to ensure that it is economically advantageous. 7. If you are not satisfied with the amount offered by the bank, the claim can then be taken to court; however, you should be aware that if you lose the case then you would be ordered to pay the costs.

Mortgage expenses

Recently, the Spanish Courts have made other pronouncements concerning the possibility of declaring null another very common clause in loan/mortgage contracts, namely the mortgage expenses clause. Specifically relating to who should pay the expenses of notary, registration and tax derived from the Loan /Mortgage Deed. Basically the courts establish that it is abusive to make the client pay all these expenses when the interested party to whom the loan is registered is the bank. Keep in mind that the new recently approved procedure does not signify an automatic claim for these expenses. It means the client would have to negotiate with the bank to claim them, and if the bank will not pay them, again, the only possibility is to go to court.

Private contracts with the bank

Prior to the judgment of the CJEU., (December 2016), many banking entities have signed private contracts with their clients in which the client agreed to eliminate the floor clause and to waive the claim of the corresponding amounts due to them from the floor clauses in exchange for a fixed rate on their loan/mortgage. In these cases it may be more complicated and costly to recover the overpaid amounts due to the ground clauses, but even so it is not impossible, as the Spanish Courts have issued some recent judgments declaring such contracts void. El proyecto senda peatonal Manilva-Sabinillas comienza a ver la luz La senda peatonal que conectará los núcleos de Manilva y Sabinillas es uno de los proyectos más importante que afronta el Equipo de Gobierno en esta legislatura. Así lo anunciaba Mario Jiménez, alcalde de la localidad, al referirse a esta gran obra que redundará en el beneficio de la ciudadanía: "considero que este proyecto, que lo he tenido en mente desde mi época de concejal, dará un paso más hacia la cercanía de los núcleos de Manilva y Sabinillas. Se trata de estrechar lazos y ofrecer posibilidades deportivas, de ocio y una conectividad necesaria para el peatón", apuntó. Este gran proyecto implica a distintas delegaciones del Consistorio manilveño como Infraestructura y Obras, dirigida por Antonio Barragán y a la oficina técnica Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental, cuyo responsable es el edil Marcos Ruiz. En estos momentos, a nivel técnico, se está procediendo a

realizar el boceto y redactar el proyecto de lo que será la senda peatonal. Dos ingenieros de obras públicas del ente mancomunado están a disposición del Ayuntamiento de Manilva. Los responsables municipales han iniciado la ronda de contactos con los propietarios cuyas fincas están implicadas en el proyecto. La Mancomunidad ha contratado trabajos previos para realizar un estudio topográfico, geotécnico y cálculo de estructura. El primero de ellos, por su envergadura, necesitará que la carretera sea cortada durante dos días. La ciudadanía será informada en los medios de comunicación y redes sociales municipales de este hecho. Desde el Ayuntamiento se agradece de antemano la comprensión de nuestros vecinos. El diseño del proyecto plasma un camino de 2.1 km que discurrirá por el margen derecho en la subida con dos tipos de pavimentación; una de hormigón proyectado y otro tramo de ma-

The Manilva-Sabinillas footpath draws a step closer The planned footpath that will connects the centres of Manilva and Sabinillas is one of the most important projects on the Council’s agenda in this term. This was announced by the Mayor, Mario Jimenez, referring to this project that will be of great benefit to locals: “I consider that this project, which I have had in mind since my time as councilman, will bring Manilva and Sabinillas closer together. It is about strengthening ties and offering sporting possibilities, leisure and a necessary connections for pedestrians,” he said. At the moment, at a technical level, the project is at the planning stage with the drawings being prepared. Two public works engineers from the Mancomunidad of Western Costa del Sol Municipalities have been made available to Manilva. Municipal officials have begun the

round of contacts with property owners whose land may be involved in the project. The project will create a 2.1 km footpath that will run along the right bank in the ascent with two types of paving; One of projected concrete and another section of hanging wood structures. The path will begin at the La Florida apartments in Sabinillas and then from the restaurant before the bends. From here the path will continue as a suspended wooden structure up to the roundabout at the entrance to Manilva village. The route will have viewpoints, rest areas and signs in what will be a pleasant and beautiful walk to for both pedestrians and cyclists. The Council also has plans in the near future to build a footpath on the left hand side of the road creating a footpath from Manilva Green to the park at Villa Matilde.

Reunión histórica entre el ayuntamiento de Manilva y las AMPAS locales

El concejal de Educación, Diego Urieta y la edil de Cultura, Eva Galindo, han mantenido una reunión histórica con las responsables de las Asociaciones de Padres y Madres de Alumnos de los colegios de la localidad. En este encuentro, que siempre se había producido por separado, los responsables municipales han querido aunar esfuerzos y debatir la actualidad de la comunidad educativa en el término municipal de Manilva. Según coentó Urieta: "considero que conociendo todos los pormenores, características y situaciones de los tres colegios de nuestro término ganamos en propuestas y mejoras, además de contribuir al buen entendimiento y el apoyo mutuo de todas las AMPAS y su conexión con el Ayuntamiento", apuntó. Por su parte, la concejala de Cultura, Eva Galindo, también quiso destacar esta predisposición entre las AMPAS y el propio Consistorio ya que: "desde el área que dirijo realizamos multitud

Por su parte, el alcalde de Manilva, Mario Jiménez, quiso destacar este encuentro y lo que supone, ya que considera que: "las nuevas generaciones serán quienes dirijan nuestro mundo en un futuro por lo que su educación es fundamental, y todo lo que sea contribuir a su desarrollo será positivo", apuntó. Tanto Urieta como Galindo mantendrán periódicas reuniones con las AMPAS locales para tener un seguimiento de su día a día y enlazar las actividades municipales con la organización de estas asociaciones de padres y madres de alumnos.

Esta acción formativa les facilitará el acceso, el registro en el portal de formación y la inscripción en el curso. Los concejales de Desarrollo Local, Marcos Ruiz y de Extranjeros, Dean Tyler Shelton, se entrevistaron con la Agente de Innovación de Guadalinfo en Manilva, Dolores Díaz, para conocer de primera mano todas las peculiaridades y ventajas de este curso.

Esta enseñanza va dirigida a todas las personas de origen extranjero y empadronadas en Andalucía que lo soliciten. Con este curso se puede alcanzar los conocimientos, conceptos y herramientas que faciliten el proceso de integración efectiva y dinámica en la vida social, económica y cultural en este país y, especialmente en Andalucía. La superación del curso permitirá la obtención del correspondiente Informe de Esfuerzo de Integración. Tendrá una duración de 20 horas lectivas. El alumno visualizará el temario y hará los ejercicios distribuyendo las horas según

Este curso es una iniciativa de la Consejería de Justicia e Interior, concretamente de la Dirección General de Políticas Migratorias, así que será un diploma que tendrán muy en cuenta si la persona inmigrante lo presenta en su oficina de extranjería para la renovación de sus autorizaciones de residencia. EP # 2 - la última de Dead City Radio Reseña de Juanma Medina www.facebook.com/TotalRockReviews El cuarteto de rock alternativo gibraltareño vuelve con su segundo EP, recientemente editado en inglés, que contiene 4 canciones: 'You Want It', 'Loaded Gun', 'Tragedy' y 'Bleed For You'. Ha sido grabado y mezclado en Gibraltar por Danny Fa (Ex Melón Diesel). Está disponible en formato digital en Spotify, Youtube, Amazon, iTunes y Google Play. De momento no tenemos noticias de una edición en formato físico. 'EP #2' es un paso adelante y una progresión natural en cuanto a sonido y madurez de Dead City Radio, con una formación perfectamente asentada y habiendo ganado muchas tablas en los escenarios, nos ofrecen un trabajo con claras influencias del grunge noventero. Por momentos nos parece estar escuchando partes del 'Superunknown' de 'Soundgarden', o del 'Ten' de Pearl Jam. Dead City Radio es una banda de riffs guitarreros,

que demuestra que no es necesario ser un virtuoso para hacer muy buena música. La voz de James Culatto inconfundible y se ha convertido en la seña de identidad del grupo. Robin Batchelor es uno de los mejores guitarristas de la escena gibraltareña, y lo demuestra en cada uno de los temas. Cuando es necesario hacerlo sencillo, lo hace. Pero cuando quiere, también puede correr por el mástil como si fuera Satriani. En la canción que cierra el EP, 'Bleed For You', nos parece que fuera a arrancarse con el solo de 'Stairway to Heaven'. Afortunadamente, sólo nos enseña el comienzo. Daniel Ghio, al bajo, frasea perfectamente cada uno de esos deliciosos riffs de guitarra, y eso nos encanta. Lo conocemos desde su etapa en otra mítica banda gibraltareña como fue 'Orange Peel', y su calidad como músico ha crecido exponencialmente. Michael

Gomez, a la batería, es sólido, sin florituras. No se complica. Y eso es bueno, porque consigue que los temas suenen contundentes. Es el batería perfecto para Dead City Radio. El sonido es definido, potente y está muy bien mezclado y masterizado, porque no hay pérdida de dinámica, ni se hace ruidoso. No deberías perderte trabajos como el que nos presentan estos chicos de Gibraltar, porque realmente merecen la pena. Nota: 9/10 En contra: Que sólo sean 4 canciones. EP # 2 - latest release from Dead City Radio Gibraltar alternative rock quartet, Dead City Radio, has recently released their second EP, featuring 4 tracks: 'You Want It', 'Loaded Gun', 'Tragedy' and 'Bleed For You'. Recorded and mixed in Gibraltar by former Melon Diesel and Taxi guitarist Danny Fa, it is available in digital format on Spotify, Youtube, Amazon, iTunes and Google Play. At the moment we have no news of a physical edition. 'EP # 2' is a step forward and a natural progression as far as sound and maturity of Dead City Radio, with a tight lineup honed from numerous live performances, offering us a work with clear influences of the 90s grunge. At times we seem to be listening to parts of Soundgarden's 'Superunknown', or Pearl Jam's 'Ten'. Dead City Radio is a band of standout guitar riffs, showing that it is not necessary to be a virtuoso to make great music. James Culatto’s voice is unmistakable and has come to define the band’s identity. Robin Batchelor is one of the best guitarists on the Gibraltarian scene, and he demonstrates this in each of the four tracks. When it is necessary to keep it simple, he does, but when he wants, he can also run down the frets like Satriani. In the final song on the EP, 'Bleed For You', we seem to be getting off with the solo of 'Stairway to Heaven'.

Daniel Ghio, on bass, perfectly underlines each of those delicious guitar riffs, and we love that. We all know him from his role in that other legendary Gibraltar band 'Orange Peel', and his quality as a musician has grown exponentially. Michael Gomez on drums is solid, no frills, and keeping it simple, which is all good as it makes the songs sound forceful. It is the perfect drumming for Dead City Radio.

The sound is defined, powerful and very well mixed and mastered, because there is no loss of dynamics, nor does it become noisy. You should not miss the chance to listen to these guys from Gibraltar, because they really deserve it. Overall: 9/10 Negatives: Only four tracks! Positives: Great music, not too heavy, and with great melodies and searing guitar riffs.

It hardly seems possible that we are already in March and before we know it the clocks will be going forward and all the spring flowers will be here to use in some wonderful arrangements. Last month there was great demonstration with Jilly Griffin and her class on Thursday had those who attended pushing their Floral design boundaries. As usual the photos are on the Clubs Facebook page for those who missed the event. This month Estepona Floral Art Club are delighted to be welcoming back Bob Harris who demonstrated here on the Coast several years ago. Bob loves to get involved with Flower Festivals; he was Chairman of Hereford Cathedral Flower Festival in 1999 and designer of the Tewkesbury Abbey Festival in 2002, St Mary's Abergavenny in 2008 and Brecon Cathedral in 2012. He has often arranged flowers in Westminster Abbey for royal occasions and NAFAS celebrations and exhibited on behalf of the Area at Chelsea Flower Show in 1997. Bob has served as Chairman and later President of the Three Counties and South Wales Area of NAFAS. The Area comprises 70 clubs stretching from the West Midlands to the South West tip of Wales. After nearly 20 years as an Area Demonstrator in 2005 he obtained not only his National Demonstrator's qualification but also passed his National Speakers test. He is now retired from demonstrations from all but the most interesting offers! Bobs demonstration, "Thank you for the Years" will be on Tuesday March 21 at Agro Jardin, Cancelada starting promptly at 3pm. It's going to be a wonderful afternoon so why

not come along and join in. You don't need to be a flower arranger or have a knowledge of flowers to enjoy the afternoon. Everyone is welcome, visitors fee is 10â&#x201A;Ź. Our courses concentrate on providing sustainable training, which doesn't rely on imported equipment or western handouts. Making a real difference in peoples lives in Africa by providing them with the knowledge to administer first aid within their own community. This training can and does save lives through supplying sustainable emergency equipment and education, First Aid Africa provide healthcare solution to benefit the public. Dos Sombreros y Un Ramo de Tomillo

...Una llamada de teléfono: “Oye, Francisco, que estoy aquí, en el pueblo, con mi hermano... ¿Cómo sigues? ¿Estás mejor?”. Francisco estaba pero no era (ser, estar), mas en esos momentos, la llamada de su amigo José Luis, le alegraba la mañana; en realidad, ya eran casi las doce del mediodía. “...Vale, no digas más, ven a recogerme, que me voy a la calle, pero te advierto que sigo tan lento como la última vez”, dijo Francisco, refiriéndose a su modo de andar desde el accidente. Cada vez que José Luis venía al pueblo, intentaba verle, salir con él e ir a dar una vuelta, porque para José Luis, eso de que se quedara en la casa su amigo, no le gustaba de ningún modo. José Luis no lo dejaría nunca. “No te lamentes... Recuerda lo que hablamos la última vez que nos vimos”, comentó José Luis. Francisco trató de recordar para saber a qué se refería y le dijo: “Hablamos de tantas cosas... Pero sé que es por la invitación que me hiciste de seguir buscando lo bueno, disfrutando de la luz de cada día, de la familia, de los amigos...”. “Sí, quería y sigo deseando que tu alma baile, que tu cuerpo se mueva…”. Y aquel día, a modo de agradecimiento psicológico a su amigo, tomó conciencia, aunque sea un tópico, de la gran importancia de los amigos en los momentos difíciles, y se dio cuenta de que el amor cultivado hace crecer y madurar los estímulos del hombre. Eso que parece una simpleza, y le suena a muchos a remilgado, encierra tanta grandeza. Francisco salió con dificultad del piso. Subió al ascensor, y al llegar al piso 0 (que casi nunca es el 0, porque puede que sea el –1 o el +1) e intentar abrir la puerta se encontró con José Luis que le esperaba, y este abrió la puerta, dura, fría, escabrosa y pesada del ascensor del bloque. –¿Adónde vamos? -preguntó José Luis, después de saludar a Francisco –ya en vivo y en directo–, sin teléfono, con el gesto precioso, las muecas límpidas que expanden los ojos rebosantes de una amistad verdadera. Francisco deseaba ir a un lugar adonde no existieran los dolores, llevaba mucho tiempo con dolores en la rodilla y las piernas; así que lo mejor era ponerse romántico con el dolor, enamorarlo y hacerle un hueco en el estado psicológico, en la mente; y aunque no tenía muy claro, que las enfermedades dependen de nosotros

mismos, algo de cierto habría en ello; pero ese tema era demasiado complicado para estar ahora ocupado en él. Qué mejor terapia que la compañía de un buen amigo. –Iremos al barrio más cercano –respondió Francisco, aunque sin determinar ningún sitio en concreto donde tomar algo, ni antes por teléfono, ni ahora en la puerta del edificio, esperando los dos quizás ir a ninguna parte, y a todas: a que les diera el aire, a charlar juntos, a tomar unas cervezas en la taberna centenaria, mejor en la terraza donde les diera el sol, provista de toldo chirriante impregnado de salitre por el viento del mar. –Vengo del campo –explicó José Luis–. Mi hermano se ha quedado allí –dijo sonriendo–. Recuérdame que antes de irme te regale un ramo de tomillo silvestre que llevo en esta bolsa. Y ahora, vamos, paseemos. –¡Paseo...!. Ando con muletas, apenas si ando unos metros y ya..., lo siento. Tengo dolor. –No te preocupes porque traigo el coche, conque vete preparando. ¿Adónde vamos? –volvió a preguntar José Luis por cuarta vez. Francisco intuía que no preguntaría más, lo conocía lo suficiente para admitir en su pensamiento que la paciencia de su amigo se estaba agotando. –Ya te lo he dicho. Al hermano de José Luis, le gustaba disfrutar de soledades en el campo, y gozaba de ello cada vez que tenía días libres en el trabajo. José Luis dijo que su hermano comoquiera que no tenía trabajo ese día, y él tampoco, era preciso aprovecharlo al máximo, que la naturaleza, sincera, espera a los hombres. El viaje hasta llegar al pueblo donde vivía Francisco, les resultaba agradable, sobre todo porque cercano a este existen unos baños romanos de aguas sulfurosas, apetecibles en cualquier época del año. –¿Cómo están tus padres? –preguntó Francisco. –Están muy bien. Hubo un momento de silencio hasta que José Luis le hizo mención sobre cierta mujer ecologista, amiga suya: –Así que piensas que soy naturalista. –¿Me lees el pensamiento? –...Mira Francisco, yo no soy lo que dices... –apuntó José Luis intentando desviar el tema de conversación. –Naturalista, ¿quién no lo es? Ahora eres afín a ella. Francisco lo miró y pensó que con él era muy fácil meter la pata. A veces, nos equivocamos señalando a los demás, catalogándolos en gremios u oficios, para generalizar acaso ante otros el contenido del carácter de quien conocemos, yendo, claro está, la realidad personal de cada uno, más allá de todo eso. Era difícil determinar a su amigo. –Si quieres que sea algo, piensa que soy tu amigo, solo eso, lo demás puede no ser tan trascendental. –Amigo natural y franco. –Vaya, no debí contarte mi relación con Alba. José Luis siempre daba pruebas de su sencillez. Su sensibilidad y espontaneidad le permitían navegar por libertades más allá de la bohemia. Tomaron una cerveza. Las muletas, desde luego, no iban a ser alas que llevaran a Francisco hasta la casa. –¿Te duele? –Algo menos, pero si tomo otra cerveza será sin alcohol, pues en cuanto llegue tomaré los medicamentos. –No te preocupes que el coche te dejará en la misma puerta de tu casa –dijo José Luis mirando los ojos encendidos de Francisco. Pasaron un buen día. José Luis, antes de acompañar a su amigo a la casa y despedirse de él, sacó del maletero de su coche, que estaba muy cerca de la terraza donde tomaban las cervezas, una cámara fotográfica, también había en el maletero una azada pequeña, al otro extremo un móvil

junto a varios libros de naturaleza, dos sombreros y un ramo de tomillo, el que prometió anteriormente regalar a Francisco. Le pidió a un extranjero que estaba cerca de ambos, que por favor hiciera unas fotos, y tuvo la idea de colocarse él un sombrero y a Francisco le puso otro. –Es por lo de la felicidad. Estamos bien, eso que se dice: en un buen punto, ni arriba ni abajo –dijo José Luis. Francisco le preguntó algo sorprendido: –¿Qué haces tú con una cámara fotográfica, dos sombreros, una azada y un móvil en el maletero del coche? Le hizo esa pregunta, porque no lo imaginaba adaptándose a las modas, sobre todo por el móvil. –Ya ves –respondió José Luis pidiéndole que se colocará el sombrero bien, porque el extranjero llevaba un rato esperando para hacer la foto–, son dos sombreros: uno para el verano y otro para el invierno, uno para no dejar de entrar los rayos del sol, y el otro para no dejar que penetren las gotas de lluvia, y también el sol, que en esta zona se pone incluso en invierno pesado; una azada, para desprender los palmitos de la tierra, y las raíces y tubérculos; un móvil, por si me quedo perdido en cualquier lugar adonde me lleve el día viajero y no tenga más remedio que pedir auxilio; libros, que me ilustran sobre las especies de animales y plantas, pero a decir verdad, nunca los he leído, porque he buscado en la propia existencia las variedades de plantas; y por último, un ramo de tomillo silvestre, cogido del monte, que te regalo, para abanderar el perfume de nuestra amistad. –Deberíamos vernos con más frecuencia, aunque no es justo que me queje porque no dejas de visitarme. –Bueno, bueno..., no te preocupes –dijo con cara de mecenas. –Nada tengo que objetar. Nada. Una cosa, mi amiga es natural más que naturista. ¡Qué importa! Francisco y José Luis se despidieron, porque José Luis, obedeciendo a una norma de puntualidad impuesta por él mismo, debía estar a las 14.30 junto a su hermano, y ya no llegaba, que eran las 14.20 en punto cuando José Luis, ayudó a abrir la puerta de la casa de Francisco, y las muletas, con maña oblicua, se adelantaban, cuando su derechura, habría de ser fundamental para el equilibrio del accidentado, mañosa. Francisco entró por fin, se acomodó en el sofá, al que le tenía tirria, y se confortó pensando que en el aroma del tomillo se encontraba lo ecuménico de la amistad, y pensó, ya más místico y en voz alta: ¡Ah, porque el amor es distinto a todo!

Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva has a new President Eileen Dry who has been President of Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva for many years, has stood down due to ill health. She has worked ceaselessly for the charity without thought for her well being. So many people are grateful for the help and guidance she has given them. The Executive Committee have therefore had to appoint a new President who is Tony Aldous, the current Press and Publicity Officer for the charity. Tony has been involved with the charity since 2004 and helped to run the shop for several years. Tony and his wife, Alex, moved to Spain from the UK in 2003. Tony retired from his work as a national trade Union official and when he retired he wanted to give something back to society for the wonderful time he had when working. Helping Age Concern is very rewarding and the volunteers we have are exceptional he says. His wife also works as a volunteer and is the Secretary of the organisation.

Other changes are also taking place. It has been agreed that the San Pedro/Marbella region of the charity will form a separate Age Concern Organisation. That will take time and announcements will be made as to progress, etc. In the meantime Age Concern Estepona and Manilva will act as an umbrella for them to work under so clients will see no change for the time

being. As another part of the overall organisation the Drop-In-Centre in Calle Zaragoza will be closing on the 31st March. It has served a very useful purpose over the years it has been open but the emphasis in the future will be about taking Age Concern to the people rather than expecting the people to come to Age Concern!

Introduction to Age Concern Estepona y Manilva Age Concern Estepona y Manilva was formed and its constitution accepted and registered by the Registro de Asociaciones de Andalucía in May 2003. Its geographical area covers from San Roque to the Rio de Guadalmansa. It is a member of the Federación de Asociaciones de Age Concern España which is registered in Madrid and covers the whole of Spain (F2089 National Register. C.I.F. G 07894322). The Federation is a member of the Federation of Age UK, which is a highly respected, well established Charity in the UK. The Charity was formed during the 2nd World War to help the elderly. Age Concern in Spain encourages people from other countries to integrate with the Spanish people. It also seeks to establish relationships with Spanish associations that work for the benefit of older people.

Lifeline Lifeline (the first port of call for the majority of our clients) - Volunteers serve the needs of older people in the community: • Make home visits to discuss the person's needs. • Give information on where to obtain nursing care. • Liaise with Social Services when appropriate. • Match volunteers to beneficiaries for long term support if this is required. (Subject to the availability of volunteers) • Give information about Nursing/Residential homes and help with daily living difficulties. • Act as interpreters/translators if required (Subject to the availability of volunteers) • Help with repatriation. • Liaise with Housing Associations in the UK

Provide a listening ear service.

The charity is unable to provide a cleaning or gardening service. Age Concern has a charity shop in C/ Zaragoza 29, Estepona which is stocked by donations from members of the public and is staffed by volunteers five days a week. The money raised is used to support the work of the volunteers working in the community, This is the charity's focal point. Age Concern receives no funding from local or Central Government. It relies totally on donations and fund raising activities. We are always looking for volunteers to work in the community with older people or, work in the shop. Friends of Age Concern Friends of Age Concern are a considerable asset to the charity as they provide support to the volunteers by registering their approval of the work that the charity undertakes. More Friends are sought for the rest of this and for coming years to enlarge the Age Concern Community and ensure that as many supporters

as possible can take advantage of reduced rates for events. What is a Friend of Age Concern? A Friend is a person who does not necessarily want to play an active role in the work of the charity but who supports its aims and objectives and wants to show that support. Membership as a Friend entitles the individual to a Friend’s

card, copy of the newsletters that are produced, as well as early knowledge of forthcoming events, plus reductions on them. Register now and beat the 2017 rush! Age Concern Charity Shop Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva, receives no financial support from the Council and relies solely on the generosity of people and organisations who donate items we can sell, or money, to enable us to give older people the help they need. Our shop in Calle Zaragoza, Estepona acts as the focal point for the charity as well as raising much needed funds. In spite of the building works progressing along side us where an underground car park

is being excavated (known by us as the swimming pool with mud slide) we are open for business five days a week from 10 am. to 1.30 pm. Volunteers to run the shop are always needed and we have several vacancies at the moment. Why not come and join us? La delegación de Extranjeros del Ayuntamiento de Manilva colaborará con el doble maratón solidario, que realizará el vecino de nuestra localidad Rod Andrews, a fin de recaudar fondos para la asociación Cudeca, que se encarga de la ayuda a enfermos de cáncer y sus familiares. Este ciudadano de origen británico, que partirá desde Benalmádena, sede de Cudeca, el próximo 28 de abril, recorrerá diferentes municipios de la Costa del Sol hasta llegar a Sabinillas sobre la una de la tarde del día 29 de abril, donde será recibido por las autoridades municipales. Esta iniciativa surge cuando hace unos años, Rod Andrews, pasa por esta enfermedad y recibe la ayuda de esta entidad sin

In response to public demand both of the St George Charity's shops in Sabinillas have extended their hours and are now open Tuesday and Friday afternoons from 5 pm to 7.30 pm as well as from 10 am to 1.30 pm Monday to Saturday. If this proves successful then we could see a further extension to the opening hours. Don't forget we sell a wide range of clothes, shoes, household items, furniture, books and DVDs.

From 1 pm on Friday 28th April until 1pm on 29th April, Rod Andrews will carry out an extraordinary superhuman effort of walking a Double Marathon (over 52 miles, 84 kms) in aid of Cudeca Goldies. His special 24 hour walk will start at the Cudeca Hospice in Benalmadena at 12 noon on the 28th and will finish on Saturday 29th April at 1 pm at the monument on Sabinillas sea front. It would be great if as many people as possible could applaud him as he

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain weekly surgery The Duquesa Charitable Society of St George is hosting a weekly surgery by Citizens Advice Bureau Spain every Wednesday morning from 10.30 am to 1 pm. The surgery will be held at the St George Charity’s new shop in Calle Aurora de Albornoz, Punta Almina, Sabinillas, and is part of the Charity’s community support programme.

If you would like to see one of CAB Spain’s advisers then pop along to the shop on Wednesday morning, although it is advisable to book an appointment as it can sometimes be busy. All consultations are free but CAB Spain is funded by donations, so if you feel that their advice has been valuable then please make a donation in the tin provided.

For decades people have used all sorts of creative ways to removes ticks, including fire, grease, soap and water, etc. LymeNetEurope. org says doing anything to “irritate” tick to get it to release on its own is a BAD IDEA.

So what IS the best way?

There is even a “Tick Twister” tick remover. One of the biggest issues is that everyone has conflicting and unclear advice when it comes to tick removal. For example, www.tickencournter. org says, “Don’t worry if the head stays in, just disinfect the area with rubbing alcohol.” On the other hand, LymeNetEurope.org says the opposite (and gives a good reason for it as well): “If the head of the tick remains in place, then the salivary glands may still be there, with possibly pathogens. Then there is still a potential risk of contamination! Try to remove the tick’s head as well and if it fails, consult a doctor.” They do mention that if part or all of the hypostome (the barbed parts of the tick that go into the skin) is what stays in, there is probably no risk for continued contamination.

The first thing to realize is that marketing is marketing and business is business. People selling tick removal kits are going to tell you theirs is the “safest, best, most effective, etc.” But that doesn’t mean it’s true. LymeNetEurope.org says this: “Scientific research shows that tick removal with a fine point tweezers is one of the best methods, and in general the recommended method. Such a tweezers is easy to handle and the chance of squeezing the tick is small.” They make an important distinction here – be sure to use fine point tweezers and not the normal broad, flat tip tweezers because with the flat ones you run the risk of squeezing the tick (which could release more pathogens) and/or you could break the tick apart.

Astenia primaveral: síntomas y remedios La astenia es una condición que

se produce principalmente con los cambios estacionales: es un trastorno que dura un tiempo, y por el que nos sentimos cansados sin razón aparente incluso cuando no estamos realizando apenas esfuerzos. Éste trastorno se caracteriza por una sensación de cansancio mental y físico, y también por la falta de interés, vitalidad y debilidad constante. La causa no es siempre aparente, y a menudo se confunde con otras condiciones como la depresión. Las causas de la astenia son muy diversas, pero una de las más comunes es el cambio estacional, y esto se produce cuando nuestro cuerpo no se adapta a los cambios que se producen en el entorno: nuestro cuerpo se adapta al tiempo frío, y al inicio de la primavera los cambios que se producen en el ambiente pueden afectarnos, por ejemplo, días más largos, la presencia de polen, cambios atmosféricos y en la temperatura, etc. Si añadimos el cambio de hora, este problema a menudo se agrava.

Todos estos cambios pueden provocar la aparición de algunos de los siguientes síntomas comunes de la astenia: tristeza sin razón aparente, nos enfadamos fácilmente, falta de apetito, tensión arterial baja, una sensación regular o constante de apatía, bajo interés o apetito sexual, dolores de cabeza, falta de energía y debilidad muscular, cansancio y pérdida de cabello en algunos casos.

Consejos para mejorar la astenia primaveral Aunque este tipo de fatiga desaparece gradualmente a medida que nos adaptamos a la nueva estación, siempre hay cosas que podemos hacer para ayudar a nuestro cuerpo a realizar la transición más rápido y también para evitar que los síntomas estén siempre presentes. Una de las formas más fáciles y efectivas para ayudar a nuestro cuerpo es a través de nuestra dieta. Si queremos vencer a este trastorno, debemos adoptar

una dieta rica en triptófano, un aminoácido que se encuentra en ciertos alimentos y actúa como precursor de la serotonina, que nos ayuda a estar de mejor humor. Algunos alimentos ricos en triptófano que podemos incorporar a nuestra dieta son: huevos, productos lácteos, pescado, verduras, frutos secos, frutas de grano entero como la piña, fresas, papaya, mango, naranjas, pomelos, uvas y aguacates. Además de este aminoácido, también podemos incorporar otros ingredientes a nuestra dieta que nos ayudarán a combatir la astenia primaveral. Spring Asthenia: Symptoms and Remedies Asthenia is a condition that usually occurs with seasonal changes: It is a disorder that lasts for a while, where we feel tired for no apparent reason even when not making a lot of effort at all. This disorder is characterised by a feeling of both physical and mental fatigue and also a lack of interest, vitality and constant weakness. The cause is not always noticeable and is often confused with other conditions such as depression. The causes of Asthenia are very diverse, but one of the most common is seasonal changes and this occurs when our body fails to adapt to the changes which occur in the environment: Our body adapts to cold weather and at the outset of spring, the changes occurring in the environment can affect us, for example longer daylight hours, the presence of pollen, temperature and atmospheric changes, etc. If we add time changes, this problem is often compounded. All these changes can lead to the appearance of some of the following common symptoms of asthenia: sadness for no apparent reason, being upset much more easily, a lack of appetite, low blood pressure, a regular or constant feeling of apathy, low sexual drive/ interest, headaches, low energy and muscle weakness, exhaustion and hair loss in some cases.

Tips for improving Spring Asthenia

Even though this type of fatigue gradually disappears as we adapt to the new season, there are always things that we can do to help our body make the transition much faster and also to prevent the symptoms from being constantly present. One of the easiest and most effective ways to help our body is through our diet. If we want to overcome this disorder we must adopt a diet which is rich in tryptophan, an amino acid that can be found in certain foods and acts as a precursor of serotonin, which helps us feel in a good mood. Some foods rich in tryptophan that we can incorporate into our diet are: eggs, dairy products, fish, vegetables, nuts, whole grains fruits such as pineapple, strawberries, papaya, mango, oranges, grapefruit, grapes and avocados. In addition to this amino acid, we can also incorporate other ingredients into our diet that will help us to combat spring asthenia. Some of these ingredients include: Ginseng tea: Ginseng is a silver which stimulates and helps us regain vitality. It also has properties that can help us reduce stress levels. It is not recommended to consume more than 2 cups of

ginseng tea per day. Brewer's yeast: Brewer's yeast contains many vitamins that help us gain vitality and to consume it you can simply mix it in with smoothies or milkshakes, add it in to soups or mix one teaspoon with a little Greek yogurt in the morning. Drink linden or passionflower tea: A lot of the time we can feel tired, but when bedtime arrives we just cannot get to sleep: This is a common effect of spring asthenia, so before bedtime have a cup of any of these teas to achieve a restful sleep. Here are some other recommendations that you can follow to improve and soon leave behind those bothersome spring asthenia symptoms: Exercise: Although it seems contradictory and a lot of the time you will feel as though you do not have the energy to exercise, it is actually very beneficial when it comes to combating asthenia. Doing light exercise such as walking, swimming or low-impact aerobics can help to release endorphins which make us feel more active and cheerful. Eat foods with Vitamin B: Vitamin B is essential to combat fatigue and tiredness, so opting for a supplement or consuming foods such as bananas, vegetables or whole grains will be helpful.

There must be no greater thrill in life than finally starting to make a living doing the thing you really love. It is no surprise that I am a golfing addict and more than a bit passionate about the sport I hold close to my heart. As a young boy, I once dreamed of walking down the emerald green fairways of golf courses in exotic locations,

seeking tournament victories and large silver trophies. Every young person who plays a sport with passion, watches it on TV and dreams that one day they will emulate their idols. In golf, every young player imagines what it would be like to sink the winning putt to win The Open Championship or slipping on the green jacket at Augusta.

We copied our idols clothing styles, played with the same clubs and even mimicked their victory celebrations. Reality on the other hand, slaps most of the dreamers down and only a very privileged few will ever go on to turn those dreams into a reality. The monumental amount of dedication and hard work required, along with support and guidance, means that most never will. Every week I watch the player’s progress from the comfort of my sofa as they compete around the world. Last week I witnessed Anton “The Silent Assassin” Karlsson make it to the third spot at the Joburg

Open, before a double bogey dropped him down the table, forcing him to settle for 23rd spot. Big Duncan Stewart finished in 18th place a week later in the Tshwane Open while Spain’s Jon Rahm went into the final day as the leader in Mexico but Unfortunately losing out on the victory to world no1 Dustin Johnson. My dream of competing in the major tournaments was all but forgotten until I discovered the joys of caddying. Yes I worked on a local golf tour for a number of years and caddied for a number of players in local competitions, but for the first time I am going to head out on tour as a full time writer and caddy, travel internationally and use my passion, knowledge and enthusiasm to its full potential. If I want to keep my dreams alive, I also have to work hard, practice harder and

help my young pros even more, in their pursuit of golfing victories. I think this year I might be able to handle my golfing addiction and wearing my Ernie Els cap and Tiger woods shirt, I too hope to do a Seve Ballesteros celebration on an 18th green somewhere in the world.

This month I had the pleasure of working with a young Swedish professional golfer called Jesper Jurrel. A former bodybuilder who one year ago, quit the weights and started playing golf as a profession. Working with Jesper for only a month, we managed to calm down his aggressive big hitting dangerous style of play and made it into the final group on the final day of our final tournament. Hunting for birdies we went out and shot eight of them, including one eagle to take the position of the overnight leader going into the final day of The Gecko tour event at La Quinta GC where a few weeks earlier I lost in a play-off with my

last player Tommy O’Driscoll. With the Spanish based mini winter tour coming to it conclusion I will now be heading to Morocco to caddie for another young swede Oliver Jacobson in what will be his first ever event as a professional golfer. Oliver will be competing on the Mena Tour for his rookie season as a professional as well as events in Thailand, Dubai, Abu Dhabi. Oliver also hopes to qualify for the Scandinavian Masters that will take place in June at his home course Basebeck GC. Having caddied for him in his last amateur event at the Andalucia amateur Championships I am thrilled to be joining Oliver on his maiden Pro season.

2008 at the Volvo China Open, winning by nine strokes, and ended the 2008 season ranked in the top thirty of the Order of Merit for the first time.He retired from the European Tour in 2015 after losing his card and now plays regularly on the Irish PGA Regional tour. Surrey England Thanks to Jason Callow from Estepona GC, Damian got to play alongside his former caddy for the first time in a match against none other than Ondrej Lieser, the no1 golfer from the Czech Republic and myself. Despite Damian shooting a round of -6, the caddie and player team narrowly missed out on the victory.

En cada bloque de la liga regular las parejas tendrán que jugar un número de partidos y tras finalizar la fase regular se disputará el Máster Final en función del puesto obtenido en la liga. Estepona Local Padel League 2017 Estepona’s 2017 Local Padel League, organized by the City of Estepona and the 24 Hours Sports, Foundation, will begin this month. This league, which in recent years has been well subscribed, will be

compete over three months and will consist of a regular phase and a final tournament. It will be offered from 2nd category to 4th, both male and female, and there is also a category for juniors. Specifically, the league will begin in March and end in June and will be divided by parts. In each block of the regular league the pairs will have to play a number of matches and after finishing the regular phase they will compete for the Master Final according to the position obtained in the league. Winners will receive trophies and gifts. Table Tennis is now another activity available for local residents to enjoy, with the formation of the Manilva Table Tennis Club. Founded by John Ullger with the aim of providing an opportunity for those wishing to practice or take up the sport from scratch to do so locally. The club meets at the Sabinillas sportshall every Tuesday between

7 pm and 9 pm and currently has two tables, which will be increasing very shortly to five. John is an experienced coach so don’t worry if you’ve never played as he will soon have up and running. Cinco nuevas medallas para el Club Internacional “AndaluZía” en el VIII Torneo de Esgrima organizado por la Asociación Gerónimo de Carranza en Granada El Club Internacional de Esgrima participó en una nueva competición organizada por la Asociación Gerónimo Sánchez de Carranza el pasado fin de semana. Las categorías fueron divididas en esgrimistas menores de 10 y 12 años en categoría masculina y femenina. Cinco jóvenes tiradores del Club “AndaluZía” participaron en la competición representando a sus respectivos colegios. En la categoría masculina Jonas Reinecke del colegio alemán Juan Hoffmann se alzó con la medalla de oro y Jake Blackwell representando a Estepona con la de plata. En categoría femenina de menores de 12 años Sasha Blackwell de Estepona fue una de las ganadoras junto con Amelia Deardon y Catherine Deardon del colegio San José en sus respectivas categorías.

Five new medals for the International Fencing Club “AndaluZía” at the VIII Fencing Tournament organized by the Geronimo de Carranza Association in Granada The International Fencing Club participated in a new competition organized by the Gerónimo Sánchez de Carranza Association last weekend. The categories were divided into fencers less than 10 and 12 years old in men's and women's categories. Five young fencers from the "AndaluZia" Club participated in the competition representing their respective schools. In the men’s

category Jonas Reinecke from the Juan Hoffmann German school took the gold medal and Jake Blackwell representing Estepona took the silver. In the women’s category under 12 years Sasha Blackwell of Estepona was one of the winners along with Amelia Deardon and Catherine Deardon of Colegio San Jose in their respective categories. Congratulations to all, especially

the monitors Miguel Fernandez, Paul Holder and Isabel, and to the wonderful art of fencing.
