Cuando se trata del tiempo, los ingleses tienen muchos dichos, uno de los cuales es “Marzo llega como un león, y se marcha como un cordero”; ¡ciertamente acertaron en lo primero! En el momento de imprimir este periódico, la Costa del Sol está viviendo unas condiciones meteorológicas horribles gracias a la tormenta “Emma”. Afortunadamente, sin embargo, nada que ver con el frío y las ventiscas que azotan la mayor parte de Europa, Reino Unido e Irlanda. Aunque rezamos para que la segunda parte del refrán sea preciso. Marzo también le dice adiós a las celebraciones anuales del carnaval, y todos las miradas se dirigen a las celebraciones de la Semana Santa, que este año cae en la última semana de marzo. No olvides que en Andalucía el Jueves Santo y el Viernes Santo, 29 y 30 de marzo, son fiesta. Puedes encontrar información sobre todos estos eventos en este número o en nuestro sitio web en www.theresident.eu o en nuestra página de Facebook, @theresident.spain. Y volviendo al tiempo, parece que cada vez que llueve con algo de fuerza sufrimos los inevitables cortes de luz. Aunque es molesto, se sigue trabajando para identificar y reparar los daños provocados por las tormentas del 2016 y parece que será algo con lo que tendremos que vivir en el futuro cercano. Para poner esto en perspectiva, en las últimas dos semanas recibí un mensaje de un amigo que vive en Puerto Rico, celebrando el hecho de que por fin tienen electricidad tras 163 días sin ella, desde que el huracán María destruyó la infraestructura eléctrica el año pasado. Y hablando de cosas más alegres, me gustaría desearos un Feliz Día de la Madre en Reino Unido, Feliz Día de San Patricio, Feliz Día del Padre en España, ¡ah! Y Feliz Semana Santa. When it comes to the weather the English have many sayings, one of which is “March arrives like a lion, and leaves like a lamb”, well they certainly got the first bit right! As we go to press the Costa del Sol is experiencing some dreadful weather conditions thanks to storm ‘Emma’. Fortunately though nothing like the bitter cold and blizzards across most of Europe, UK and Ireland, but bad enough to pray that the second part of the saying proves accurate. March also sees the final acts of the annual carnival celebrations, whilst all eyes begin to turn to the Semana Santa celebrations which this year fall during the last week of March. Don’t forget here in Andalucia Holy Thursday and Good Friday, March 29 and 30, are public holidays. You can find information about all these events either in this issue or at our website at www.theresident.eu or on our Facebook page @theresident.spain. Getting back to the weather, it seems that every time we get heavy rain we suffer the inevitable power cuts. Whilst it is annoying works are still continuing to identify and repair the damage done in the 2016 storms and it looks like it will be something we will have to live with for the near future. To put the whole situation in perspective in the last couple of weeks I received a message from a friend in Puerto Rico celebrating the fact that they had just had their electricity restored after 163 days without, since Hurricane Maria destroyed the electrical infrastructure last year. On that cheerful note I’d just like to wish you Happy UK Mother’s’ Day, a Happy Saint Patrick’s Day, Happy Spanish Father’s Day, oh! And a Happy Easter , I think I remembered them all. Declaración sobre los desprendimientos de rocas Statement on recent rock falls in en Gibraltar Gibraltar Actualmente, el Departamento de Servicios Técnicos (Technical Services Department) del Gobierno está evaluando la causa del desprendimiento de rocas y colaborando con una firma especializada de ingenieros geotécnicos para determinar el riesgo latente de que se produzcan más desprendimientos de rocas en la zona. Además del incidente más importante, acontecido en la carretera de Devil’s Tower, también se ha informado de desprendimientos de rocas de menor envergadura en la parte alta del Peñón y en las laderas situadas sobre el Ecoparque y la carretera de Flint. El Gobierno de Gibraltar ya ha puesto en marcha un plan de estabilización de colinas y prevención de desprendimiento de rocas en estas zonas y en otras paredes de acantilados del Peñón. Además, el ejecutivo mejora de forma continua las medidas paliativas contra los desprendimientos, para así reducir los riesgos asociados a los mismos en caso de que se produzcan

Del 2 al 8 de julio, en aguas cercanas al puerto deportivo de Sotogrande, tendrá lugar el evento náutico más importante del año en la zona: la I Marina Sotogrande Classic Week 2018. Muy al estilo de los eventos de vela de la Costa Azul alrededor de medio centenar de barcos de distintas categorías estarán presentes para los cuatro días de competición( 4 al 7). La gran atracción serán los únicos 4 veleros de la clase métrica 15M que continúan en navegación de competición en todo el mundo:
el Hispania, el Tuiga, el Mariska y el Lady Anne, que disputarán regatas y costeras exclusivas para la clase. Asimismo aproximadamente 15 barcos clásicos, entre los 12 a 15 metros, disputarán regatas costeras específicas. A los que hay que sumar entre 15 y 20 barcos de la mítica Clase Dragon y la Clase J80, con 10 a 15 embarcaciones en el campo de regatas. Marina Sotogrande ha cerrado el acuerdo para la celebración del evento en España. En la
última edición desarrollada en Saint-Tropez venció, tras siete pruebas, el Mariska, patroneado por Benjamin Redreau( Suiza). Poco a poco se van diseñando los distintos eventos que acompañarán a las pruebas deportivas durante esa semana, lo que concentrará en el Puerto de Sotogrande muchos medios de comunicación. Se espera una gran presencia de público durante esas fechas de julio para contemplar estos únicos barcos clásicos.

Very much in the style of the sailing events of the Costa Azul around fifty boats of different categories will be present for the four days of competition (July 4 to 7). The great attraction will be the only 4 sailboats of the 15M metre class that continue in competitive sailing around the world: the Hispania,
the Tuiga, the Mariska and the Lady Anne, which will compete in exclusive regattas for the class. Also approximately 15 classic boats, between 12 to 15 metres, will compete for specific coastal races. To which we must add between 15 and 20 boats of the mythical Dragon Class and the J80 Class, with 10 to 15 boats in the race course. Aprobado definitivamente el presupuesto municipal de 2018 que asciende a 13.180.257€ El presupuesto municipal de 2018, aprobado inicialmente en pleno el pasado 21, ha sido aprobación definitiva esta mañana con los 7 votos de IU y 3 votos en contra, del representante del PSOE y los dos ediles del PP que han asistido a la sesión, con lo que podrá entrar en funcionamiento una vez sea publicado en el Boletín Oficial de la Provincia. Los portavoces de la oposición han explicado sus alegaciones, que han sido rechazadas por cuestiones técnicas, al no ajustarse ninguna de ellas a los establecido por la Ley según los informes de Secretaría y de Intervención. Ahumada ha explicado que tanto PP como PSOE "han utilizado las alegaciones para realizar las enmiendas que no hicieron en la Comisión Informativa ni en Pleno de diciembre", y las mismas "carecen de dos cosas fundamentales: coste de cada una y lo que sustituye" . Una cuestión que ha llevado al Concejal de Hacienda a tachar a los responsables de ambos partidos de la oposición de "irresponsables e incompetentes". Porque si

estas enmiendas se hubieran presentado en tiempo y forma deberían haberse votado. Pero al presentarlas como alegaciones han retrasado un mes la puesta en funcionamiento del presupuesto y la ejecución proyectos" que tiene previstos realizar el Ayuntamiento.
Polígono Industrial Otros de los asuntos del orden ha sido la liquidación de las obras ejecutadas y la aprobación de las obras pendientes de urbanización del Polígono Industrial de Los Pedregales, como se les expuso el pasado martes a los propietarios de parcelas industriales. Un asunto que ha salido adelante con los votos de IU y la abstención de la oposición. Supondrá la ejecución de las obras valoradas en 1 millón de euros que permitirán poner en funcionamiento la zona industrial. Incluyen la acometida eléctrica, reparaciones en el saneamiento interior y en acerados, puesta a punto alumbrado público, que contarán con un servicio de vigilancia durante el transcurso de las mismas.

La restauración de la fachada y la torre de la El Carnaval de Casares se aplazada al 10 de marzo Iglesia del Llano se realizará este verano El Obispado ya cuenta con el informe favorable de la Delegación de Cultura, por lo que la intención es que las obras de restauración de la fachada y de la torre-campanario de la Iglesia de la Encarnación de Casares se inicien esta primavera, una vez finalizada las comuniones, según han informado esta mañana los responsables de la Diócesis de Málaga y la Parroquia local al alcalde Pepe Carrasco y el concejal de Infraestructura, Pepe Carrasco. A la reunión han asistido José A. Sánchez Herrera, vicario general de la Diócesis de Málaga, el ecónomo, los asesores Jurídico y Técnico de la Diócesis de Málaga, y el párroco de Casares, Jose Antonio Melgar. El alcalde y el concejal de Infraestructuras han reafirmado el compromiso municipal de colaborar para la eliminación del cableado de la fachada del edificio religiosos. Por lo que el Ayuntamiento se va a encargar de realizar la obra civil para el soterramiento de la líneas eléctricas desde la Fuente. Durante el encuentro, los responsables de la Diócesis han presentado su planteamiento de futuro para la puesta en valor de esta iglesia de origen conventual (franciscano-capuchino). Un plan en el que prevé en 5 fases la renovación de la instalación eléctrica, iluminación y sonido; la restauración completa de la solería; la recuperación de frescos en los muros interiores, así como de la cripta existente en los sótanos, y la restauración

La Concejalía de Fiesta ha ampliado este año la programación del Carnaval que se iniciará las 12 del mediodía con un pasacalles infantil con música y animación. Saldrá desde el "Peñon Roao" hasta la Plaza de España, donde los pequeños podrán presentar sus disfraces y recibir un pequeño detalle por su participación. A las 4 de la tarde tendrá lugar la Fiesta Infantil en la misma plaza,
de La Pastora como espacio público. Unas actuaciones para la que se ha mostrado la predisposición del Ayuntamiento a colaborar,

The restoration of the façade and the tower of the Iglesia de la Encarnación church will take place The Carnival of Casares to be held this this summer The church authorities have received a favourable report from the Delegation of Culture, so the intention is that the restoration works to the façade and the bell tower of the Iglesia de la Encarnación de Casares church will begin this spring, once the communion season is over, as reported recently by the heads of the Diocese of Malaga and the local parish to the Mayor Pepe Carrasco. Some actions for which the Town Council has affirmed its willingness to collaborate have been shown, as it means the revaluation of this building of great importance as a place of worship and for its heritage value, municipal officials have indicated.

Due to the recent heavy rains Casares postponed its Carnival celebration to this Saturday, March 10. The Fiestas Department has expanded this year’s Carnival programme which will start at 12 noon with a children's parade with music and entertainment. It will leave from the "Peñon Roao" to the Plaza de España, where the children can display their fancy dress costumes and receive a small gift for their participation. At 4 o'clock in the afternoon the Children's Party will take place in
Plaza España, where at 6 o'clock there will be a performance by the Sabinillas Chirigota "Los del Pabellón del Futuro". The activities continue at 10 o'clock at night with music and dancing by the band ‘Duo Latidos’, whilst at 11 pm the adults carnival parade will leave from the "Peñon Roao". Following the parade there will be a prize giving for the best fancy dress followed by more music and dancing into the early hours with ‘Duo Latidos’, while the Carnival Party begins in the Paseo de la Carrera.

Los trabajos, que han tenido una duración aproximada de un mes terminaban el 27 de febrero con la consolidación del talud con escollera para protegerlo y la pavimentación de todo el perímetro del camino que se llevó el río. Además se han saneado los blandones del firme, restaurándose con hormigón el pavimento del camino, tal y como estaba antes las fuertes lluvias producidas en diciembre
de 2016, que afectaron a la estabilidad de la vía. Este camino rural es utilizado por agricultores, propietarios de pequeñas parcelas, y vecinos cuyas fincas se encuentran lindando con el camino o a las que se acceden desde el mismo. El muro de escollera se ha construido para la contención del cauce del río, dotándolo de las suficientes infraestructuras de defensa frente a los efectos
de las lluvias torrenciales. El proyecto ha sido realizador por la empresa Hnos. Pérez Garrán S.L., con un coste de 65.374 euros, financiado al 100% por el Ayuntamiento de Casares, aunque se ha solicitado una subvención del 50% al Gobierno al tratarse de una uno de los daños causados por el temporal que afectó a la comarca en 2016.

El ayuntamiento de Casares se suma a la protección de las colonias felinas El pasado 5 de febrero, la Asociación Gatos y Amigos (AGYA) mantuvo una reunión con la concejala Antonia Pineda y Cristóbal García, técnico de Medio Ambiente. La reunión no pudo ser más exitosa; totalmente conformes con nuestros objetivos de proteger las colonias felinas de Casares; así como paliar las diferentes situaciones de vandalismo y maltrato sufridas por las mismas; mostraron su total repulsa a todo tipo de situaciones de maltrato, y nos tendieron puentes de comunicación y colaboración. También comentamos la necesidad imperante de la creación de ordenanzas municipales que legislen y regulen la tenencia de animales domésticos; con sus respectivas sanciones en aquellos casos de abandono y maltrato animal. Tanto Antonia como Cristóbal nos manifestaron que están completamente de acuerdo con
nosotros: hay que abordar esta cuestión a la mayor celeridad, y elaborarlas de acuerdo a la situación de cada municipio. Con lo cual, las expectativas con el ayuntamiento de Casares son: trabajar conjuntamente tanto para poder aplicar el protocolo CES (Captura, Esterilización y Suelta); método recomendado para el control de colonias por la Organización Mundial de la Salud; así como ofrecer apoyo y asesoramiento una vez se apruebe la elaboración de las ordenanzas municipales sobre tenencia de animales. También comentamos el deplorable caso de envenenamiento masivo de gatos en la zona de Marina de Casares Suite y Fase 20; el ayuntamiento y nosotros estamos absolutamente consternados; se trabajará en colaboración para que no sucedan más estos terribles acontecimientos; facilitando a las autoridades competentes; en este caso, Seprona de Estepona se
ocupará por denuncia interpuesta por AGYA; facilitando todos los datos e información posibles para la investigación en curso. Estamos muy satisfechos con la actitud y disposición mostrados
por los representantes del ayuntamiento de Casares, ante todas nuestras explicaciones, exposiciones y manifiestos en la reunión; plenamente receptivos para asumir sus responsabilidades,
y abordar estas problemáticas desde un marco colaborador con nosotros; en relación al control de colonias de gatos, y del cual iremos informando.
Casares commits to the protection of its cat colonies On February 5, the Cats and Friends Association (AGYA) held a meeting with councillor Antonia Pineda and Cristóbal García, environmental technician. The meeting could not have been more productive; fully compliant with the group’s objectives of protecting the cat colonies of Casares; as well as mitigate the different situations of vandalism and abuse suffered by them. They showed their total repulsion to all types of abusive situations, and they provided AGYA with channels for communication and collaboration. AGYA also commented on the prevailing need for the creation of municipal by-laws that legislate and regulate the possession of domestic animals; with their respective sanctions in cases of abandonment and animal abuse. Both Antonia and Cristóbal told AGYA that they completely agree, and must address this issue as quickly as possible, and deal with them according to the situation of each municipality. With which, the expectations with the municipality of Casares are: to work together to apply the CSE protocol (Capture, Sterilization
and Release); the recommended method for the control of colonies by the World Health Organization; as well as offer support and advice once the elaboration of municipal by-laws on animal ownership are approved. The group also commented on the deplorable case of the mass poisoning of cats in the area of Marina de Casares Suite and Phase 20; the town hall and AGYA are appalled and will work collaboratively so that these terrible events do not happen any more; facilitating the competent authorities; in this case, Seprona de Estepona will be informed by a complaint lodged by AGYA; providing all possible data and information for the ongoing investigation. AGYA are very satisfied with the attitude and disposition shown by the representatives of the municipality of Casares listening to all the explanations, exhibitions and manifestos in the meeting; and were fully receptive to assume their responsibilities, and address these issues from a collaborative framework with the group, in relation to the control of colonies of cats.

El alcalde coloca la primera piedra del complejo deportivo del Estadio de Atletismo El alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, el presidente de la Diputación Provincial de Málaga, Elías Bendodo, y el presidente de la Federación Andaluza de Atletismo, José Enrique López Cuenca, han colocado la primera piedra de las obras del complejo deportivo del Estadio de Atletismo y del aparcamiento anexo. El regidor ha subrayado la importancia que tendrá este nuevo equipamiento, homologado para competiciones oficiales, y que reunirá condiciones que lo convertirán en uno de los más modernos de Andalucía. En estos momentos, los movimientos de tierras y excavación, que se iniciaron el pasado diciembre, se encuentran ya en un 85 por ciento de ejecución. Posteriormente, los trabajos se centrarán en la cimentación y estructura del Estadio de Atletismo y el aparcamiento para casi un millar de plazas que se ha proyectado bajo este equipamiento. A continuación, se procederá al cerramiento del mismo y

colocación de la cubierta. Las obras, que estarán finalizadas durante este año, contemplan la construcción de una pista de atletismo con una superficie de 16.488 metros cuadrados, un aparcamiento de dos plantas para casi un millar de plazas e instalaciones anejas de locales, con un total de 3.000 metros cuadrados de superficie, que serán destinados a futuros usos culturales-deportivos. El futuro equipamiento deportivo quedará conectado con el Auditorio Felipe VI y con el Parque Ferial, Deportivo y de Ocio Permanente, una vez que se realicen los trabajos técnicos para salvar la actual diferencia de cota entre los citados terrenos. El alcalde ha destacado el impacto que tendrán las nuevas instalaciones en la oferta deportiva para profesionales y aficionados, ya que permitirán, además de la práctica de actividades de carrera, la realización de las relacionadas con el salto. Además, albergará en el interior un campo de fútbol y de fútbol 7.

The Mayor has stressed the importance of this new facility, approved for official competitions, and that will meet conditions that will make it one of the most modern in Andalucia. At the moment, the earthworks and excavation, which began last December, are already at 85 percent completion. Subsequently, the work will focus on the foundation and structure of the Athletics Stadium and the parking for almost a thousand places that has been projected under this facility. El Ayuntamiento abre el plazo para el concurso de las mejores “Cruces de Mayo Estepona'18”
El Ayuntamiento elabora el expediente para licitar la redacción del proyecto de una piscina cubierta El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha iniciado la elaboración del expediente para la licitación de la redacción del proyecto de construcción de una piscina cubierta en el témino municipal de Estepona. El equipo de gobierno reservó una partida económica en el presupuesto municipal de este ejercicio, dando así cumplimiento a las peticiones que llegaron a través de los presupuestos participativos, que solicitaban la creación de este equipamiento. Inicialmente, está prevista su construcción, a partir de 2019, en el entorno del campo de fútbol
El Ayuntamiento de Estepona informa que, con motivo de la celebración de la festividad de las Cruces de Mayo, la delegación de Fiestas ha organizado, para el primer día de mayo, el tradicional concurso popular en el que se premiará la belleza de estos altares. La elección de ubicación de las cruces, previa solicitud, se realizará por orden de llegada, en los espacios acordados con la delegación de Fiestas, si bien no podrá haber más de una cruz en la misma plaza, ni a una distancia
inferior a 200 metros en calles. El plazo de inscripción permanecerá abierto hasta el 20 de abril, y se podrá realizar de lunes a viernes de 10:00 a 14:00 horas en la delegación municipal de Fiestas, sita en el centro Cultural Padre Manuel, en calle San Fernando, 2. En esta nueva edición se ha convocado una única categoría a la mejor cruz en calles o plazas, cuyos cinco primeros clasificados recibirán en metálico 1.000 €, 500 €, 300 € y dos premios de 200 €, respectivamente.
El jurado, que estará formado por un técnico de Parques y Jardines y un miembro de cada una de las Hermandades, Cofradías o agrupaciones vecinales participantes, quienes valorarán la belleza de la Cruz, la ornamentación del lugar en el que se instale, la adecuación a la tradición, y la artesanía y detalles empleados en el conjunto de la Cruz. La visita del jurado a las Cruces se realizará el mismo día de la celebración, el sábado 5 de mayo, a partir de las 12:00 horas, sin previo aviso.
San Fernando, ya que en estos momentos, el Ayuntamiento está realizando un importante esfuerzo inversor en las obras del Hospital de Estepona y en el citado Estadio de Atletismo. El municipio dispone en la actualidad de tres piscinas - Santo Tomás de Aquino, Cancelada y centro deportivo José Ramón de la Morena - para los usuarios y para clubes, que disponen de horarios de uso gratuito de estas instalaciones en virtud del acuerdo de cesión gratuita realizado por el Ayuntamiento de Estepona.

awarded on a first come, first served basis, with no more than one ‘Altar’ in any square, and a minimum of 200 metres between crosses in any one street. The registration period will remain open until April 20 in the Fiestas Department office in the Padre Manuel Cultural Centre. This year there will be cash prizes for the top five entries of € 1,000, € 500, € 300 and two prizes of € 200, respectively. The jury will be comprised of a Parks and Gardens technician and a member of each of the religious brotherhoods, who will judge the ‘Crosses’ on their beauty, ornamentation of the location, adherence to tradition, and the craftsmanship and details employed in the whole of the Cross. The visit of the jury to Las Cruces will take place on the same day of the celebration, on Saturday, May 5, starting at 12 noon.

El Ayuntamiento reparte 70.000 entradas gratuitas a los empadronados para visitar el Parque Selwo Aventura El Ayuntamiento de Estepona repartirá un total de 70.000 entradas para que los ciudadanos empadronados en la ciudad puedan visitar gratuitamente las instalaciones del parque Selwo Aventura. Las invitaciones son posibles gracias a un acuerdo de colaboración firmado entre el Ayuntamiento de Estepona y Parques Reunidos, la empresa responsable del recinto, según ha explicado hoy el alcalde, José María García Urbano. El regidor ha señalado que Selwo Aventura sigue siendo uno de los símbolos turísticos de la localidad y una visita obligada para los turistas, ya que es uno de los mejores parques de animales de Andalucía. “Ha creado un verdadero foco de atracción turística y de creación de empleo; se ha convertido en una de las principales ofertas de ocio del municipio y contribuye a mejorar nuestro destino turístico”, ha añadido. La directora del Parque Selwo
Aventura, María José Marañón, que ha hecho entrega al alcalde de las entradas, ha animado a los ciudadanos a que conozcan estas instalaciones, que están “vivas y siempre con novedades y con la calidad como seña de identidad”. En este sentido, ha anunciado la apertura de una nueva instalación denominada ‘La vida de los árboles’, en la parte baja de Selwo, que albergará dos especies de primates. Asimismo, ha
indicado que se han remodelado otras instalaciones para mejorar la oferta del recinto, que cuenta con más de un millón de metros cuadrados de extensión y más de 2.000 animales procedentes de distintos continentes viviendo en semilibertad. Selwo presents 70,000 free tickets to Estepona residents Estepona Town Hall has taken receipt of 70,000 entrance tickets to Selwo Aventura Nature Park for distribution amongst local residents registered on Estepona’s Padron register. This is part of an agreement which has run annually since the park opened and was part of the original planning consent. Selwo Aventura is a unique animal, nature and adventure park, located in Estepona. More than 2,000 animals from across the whole Planet live in this huge terrain, in conditions similar to those of their natural habitat, animals such as elephants, Bengal tigers, giraffes,
white rhinoceros, lions… and Kanvar, the only Asian elephant to be born in Spain. The visitor gets to see the animals up close as part of a tour which takes place partly on foot and partly in all terrain lorries. Selwo Adventure has a variety of adventure activities such as the longest zipwire in Europe, camel rides or the Path of the Hanging Bridges. Salvador Manzanares Fernández (Bretún, Villar del Río (Soria) 18 de enero de 1788 – Estepona, 8 de marzo de 1831) fue un militar liberal español. Ingresó en el ejército en 1805 y fue hecho prisionero en la batalla de Tudela durante la Guerra de la Independencia Española y enviado a prisión en Francia. Logró escapar y regresó a España, ocupando de nuevo distintos puestos en el ejército. Finalizada la guerra, fue juzgado por el Tribunal de la inquisición por masón, por lo que se vio obligado a exiliarse en Francia hasta que pudo regresar en 1820. Con el retorno al absolutismo tras la intervención de los cien mil hijos de San Luis en 1823, se organizan varias expediciones de liberales. Manzanares parte de Gibraltar, donde se encontraba refugiado, y tras varios intentos fracasados contra La Línea de la Concepción y Algeciras, tomó Los Barrios el 21 de febrero de 1831 con la ayuda de Tomás Benítez y Carlos Vincent de Agramunt. A finales del mismo mes desembarcó en Getares y puso cerco a Algeciras. Después
puso rumbo a Estepona, donde fue capturado y ejecutado. Pedro Manrique fue un joven esteponero integrante de la expedición de Torrijos, que murió junto a él en las playas en Málaga, en los fusilamientos del 11 de diciembre de 1831, en defensa de la Constitución promulgada por las Cortes de Cádiz de 1812. Hijo de Juan Manrique y Paula López, nació en la calle de Santa Ana, muy próxima a la popular Plaza de las Flores. 20:00 h Parque Botánico Orquideario: Concierto “Primavera en Estepona”. Salvador Manzanares Fernández (Bretún, Villar del Río (Soria) January 18, 1788 - Estepona, March 8, 1831) was a Spanish liberal soldier. He joined the army in 1805 and was taken prisoner at the Battle of Tudela during the War of Spanish Independence and sent to prison in France. He managed to escape and returned to Spain, again occupying different positions in the army. After the war, he was tried by the Inquisition Court as a Mason, so he was forced into exile in France until he could return in 1820. With the return to absolutism after the intervention of the ‘hundred thousand children of San Luis’ in 1823, several expeditions of liberals are organized. Manzanares was based in Gibraltar, where he was a refugee, and after several unsuccessful attempts against La Linea de la Concepción and Algeciras, took Los Barrios on February 21, 1831 with the help of Tomás Benítez and Carlos Vincent de Agramunt. At the end of the same month he disembarked in Getares and put siege to Algeciras. Then he set course for Estepona, where he was captured and executed.
Pedro Manrique was a young Estepona member of the expedition of Torrijos, who died with him on the beaches in Malaga, in the executions of December 11, 1831, in defense of the Constitution promulgated by the Cortes de Cádiz of 1812. Ayto y taxistas firman el contrato del servicio bono-taxi sanitario
E
l alcalde de Manilva, Mario Jiménez y la delegada de Asuntos Sociales, Patricia Recio, han representado al Ayuntamiento en la firma de los contratos del servicio de bono-taxi sanitario. Recio ha informado que el servicio de bono-taxi o taxi vecinal como es conocido coloquialmente, continuará su labor vecinal. El servicio, pionero en la localidad, está permitiendo que todas aquellas personas incluidas en el programa de Asuntos Sociales puedan acudir a los Hospitales de Marbella y Málaga, por un precio reducido. En este nuevo contrato se incluye el desplazamiento a los centros de salud de Estepona. Como dato, han sido más de 120 los traslados que se han realizado en este pasado año, por lo que está más que contrastada la eficacia de la propuesta. Los profesionales del taxi que han querido adherirse al convenio deberán recoger al cliente en su casa, esperar a que pase la consulta y retornarlo a su propio domicilio por el precio indicado. Según convenio y por petición de los taxistas, este servicio quedará interrumpido en los meses de julio y agosto, ya que la población se triplica y con la demanda del transporte se necesitan a todos los vehículos disponibles. Todos los interesados pueden presentar su solicitud en los registros de entrada del Ayuntamiento o el edificio Usos Múltiples, dirigido a la delegación de Asuntos Sociales. Recio stated that the taxi-voucher service or ‘taxi vecinal’ as it is colloquially known, will continue its public work. The service, a pioneer in the locality, enables all those included in the Social Affairs programme to go to the Hospitals of Marbella and Malaga, for a reduced price. This new contract also includes travel to the health centres in Estepona. Data collected has shown that there have been more than 120 transfers made in this past year, more than proving the effectiveness of the agreement. Taxi professionals who have wanted to adhere to the agreement must pick the client up at home, wait for the consultation to pass and return their passenger to their own home for the reduced ficed price agreed. The balance, up to the fixed price, will be paid by the Town Council. In the case of the Costa del Sol Hospital, the beneficiary must pay the amount of 20 euros, with the remaining 40 euros to be paid by the Council up to the final price that will be received by the taxi driver. As for the trips to Malaga, they will
be 40 euros from the beneficiary and 80 euros from the Town Council. The Council has allocated a budget of 6,000 euros for this service. The taxi voucher will be aimed primarily at those people who are registered in the municipality, with mobility difficulties, who do not own their own vehicle and are among the following groups of people: over 75 years old; people over 65 with mobility problems, those with reduced mobility recognized in accordance with letter A of Annex II of the General Regulation of Vehicles and those who have mobility problems accredited and recognized by the Delegation of Social Affairs. Este fin de semana se celebrará el Carnaval Villa de Manilva 2018

ste fin de semana se celebra el carnaval en nuestra localidad, puesto en marcha por la Delegación de Cultura, dirigida por Eva Galindo y con la colaboración de la Peña “Los Niños” de Sabinillas. La Plaza de los Maestros en Sabinillas contará con una carpa en la que se llevarán a cabo las diferentes actividades organizadas para la ocasión. El sábado 10 de marzo podrán inscribirse para el concursosorteo de disfraces infantiles. Todos los niños apuntados recibirán una merienda. A las seis de la tarde dará comienzo la animación infantil con juegos, globoflexia o pintacaras. Una hora después se llevará a cabo el concurso de disfraces infantiles. En modalidad individual se ha establecido un primer premio de una tablet y un segundo de un móvil y en colectivo, sólo se entregará un único premio de 200 euros. Toda la tarde estará ambientada con talleres infantiles para los más pequeños. La Escuela de Expresión
Corporal de Jessica Quiñones tomará el escenario a las ocho de la tarde. A las nueve y media de la noche se habilitará una mini-disco para adolescentes y además se realizará un sorteo de un móvil para jóvenes de entre 11 y 16 años que vayan disfrazados y acrediten su edad. Será a las once de la noche cuando se abrirán las inscripciones para el concurso de disfraces de adultos y a las once y media de la noche, podremos disfrutar con la actuación de las chirigotas “A toda costa” y “Las Zumbadas” así como de la Chirigota del Pelu “Los del Pabellón del Futuro”. A las doce de la noche se llevará a cabo el concurso individual y colectivo de adultos. Se han establecido tres premios de 150, 100 y 50 euros para los tres mejores disfraces individuales y otros tres de 350, 200 y 100 euros, para el apartado de colectivos. A la finalización del concurso, los presentes podrán seguir disfrutando con la música a cargo de un Dj. Las actividades preparadas para el domingo día 11 de
marzo comenzarán con una cabalgata de carnaval que recorrerá Manilva a las doce de la mañana; a la una menos cuarto se realizará el pasacalles por el Castillo de la Duquesa para terminar, a la una y cuarto de la tarde en Sabinillas. Cabe destacar que se podrá colaborar con las AMPAS adquiriendo la pulsera para disfrutar de las atracciones. Las inscripciones comenzarán a partir de las doce de la mañana. A la una y media de la tarde, se llevará a cabo una fiesta infantil, mini-disco, talleres y juegos así como un espectáculo de magia. El concurso de disfraces infantiles dará comienzo a las cuatro de la tarde, siendo a las cinco cuando actuarán las comparsas “Los Soñadores” y “Los Sonaos”. El Carnaval de nuestra localidad finalizará con la actuación, a las seis de la tarde, de la chirigota del Pelu “Los del Pabellón del Futuro”. Colocación de señales contra la violencia machista GARDEN AND AGRARIAN CENTRE
Gracias a las gestiones llevadas a cabo por la concejala de la Mujer, Patricia Recio con la Diputación Provincial de Málaga, el citado organismo supramunicipal ha entregado varias señales en contra del maltratado a la mujer. Desde el departamento de Infraestructura y Obras, dirigida por Antonio Barragán, se han realizado los trabajos de colocación de estos postes cuyo cartel consiste en un corazón roto con la señal de prohibido y el lema "No violencia machista". Estos postes se están colocando en las entradas a los núcleos de población, no obstante, se han solicitado más a la Diputación para que el municipio esté identificado con esta lucha contra la violencia de género.

Manilva installs road signs against gender violence Thanks to an initiative by Manilva’s Department for Women, headed by Councillor Patricia Recio, a number of road signs reinforcing the unacceptability of violence against women, have been erected at the entrance to the municipality’s various population centres.
Discrimination against women and gender violence, the most brutal manifestation of inequalities between men and women, is present throughout the world but Manilva Town Council wishes to identify itself as a location in which such discrimination is unacceptable here.
As Recio commented: “we will not stop in the struggle to achieve equality of women in society and eradicate the social scourge of gender violence with small details such as these signs, demonstrations or demands in all agencies,” she concluded.

Manilva wins the lottery A lottery syndicate of 80 members has won big on Euromillions lottery scooping a half share of the 174 million euro top prize in a Friday draw last month. According to local sources some 140 local residents will each receive around three

A good adviser has the potential to really make a difference to your everyday lives. This can be done in a number of ways including helping to make your finances more Tax-efficient in Spain, helping you to make your money grow or just making the administration of
Well firstly once you have found an Adviser to speak to, do research on the web for any client testimonials and on the company website. Is the Company regulated? How long have they been established in Spain? Next, at the first meeting with your Adviser you should be presented with a form of Client agreement. This sets out some basic information which may include how they are regulated, how your details will be stored, the term of the contract and what to do if you have a complaint etc. The next step of the process would be the Fact-find and a good Adviser will always be very thorough and ask as many questions as is relevant to establish your full circumstances. So at this stage, it is always best to be as open and honest with them as possible to ensure you receive the right advice for you. This Fact-find should also involve a full Attitude to Risk questionnaire, which is essential for the Adviser to understand the risk profile of their client and ensures they do not recommend you invest into any Investment that is not suitable or too risky. Finally, after conducting the initial Fact-find, the Adviser should be able to come back to you with their Investment proposal usually in the form of a ‘Reasons why Letter’. Dependent on your circumstances, and espe-
cially when it involves Final Salary Pension schemes for example, the advice may actually be to stay in the existing scheme if it is not deemed to be in your best interests to make a switch. There are many elements to this final stage, but the key point to remember is that you are still in control and to ensure you have a full understanding of what is being proposed. This would involve understanding what are the charges if you accept the advice, what are the risks, and how often will you get a review meeting with your Adviser (e.g. Quarterly/Half yearly/Annual). Triatcan y Medio Ambiente entregan alimentos a ADANA El pasado viernes el edil de Medio Ambiente del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, Dean Tyler Shelton, acompañado de miembros de la asociación Triatcan, organizadores de la Manilva Mushing Race, entregaron a la asociación Adana de Estepona, asociación benéfica y sin ánimo de lucro, gestionada por voluntarios para promover el amor y el afecto por los animales, doscientos kilos de alimento, adquiridos con el dinero sobrante de las inscripciones de la última competición celebrada en el mes de enero en Manilva. Juan Alberto Sánchez, representante de Triatcan y gran amante de los perros, informó que cada año se presta ayuda a una entidad benéfica, y es que más allá de la competición en sí, se pretende poder ayudar a aquellos que más lo necesitan. Adana dispone de instalaciones para alojar y cuidar de perros abandonados, enfermos y heridos, mientras se les busca nuevos hogares. ADANA nunca sacrifica animales sanos, según indica su presidenta Mary page,
que agradeció la donación recibida. ADANA gestiona también una perrera ubicada en un local prestado por el Ayuntamiento de Es-
tepona y dispone de una tienda de artículos y objetos de segunda mano, así como una tienda online en facebook, ambas atendidas por voluntarios.
Triatcan and Environment deliver food to ADANA Last Friday Manilva’s Councillor for the Environment, Dean Tyler Shelton, accompanied by members of the Triatcan association - organizers of the Manilva Mushing Race - delivered 200 kilos of food to the Estepona dog rescue and rehoming association ADANA. The food was purchased with the money left over from the inscriptions of the last competition held in January in Manilva.
Juan Alberto Sánchez, representative of Triatcan and a great lover of dogs, stated that each year they help a deserving charity. Adana has facilities to house and care for abandoned, sick and injured dogs, while looking for new homes. ADANA never puts down healthy animals, according to its president Mary page, who thanked the donation received.

Trabajadores fronterizos con Gibraltar y el Brexit El concejal de Residentes Extranjeros, Dean Tyler Shelton, mantuvo una reunión con tres organizaciones: ECAS, Servicio Europeo de Acción Ciudadana; CAB, Citizens advice bureau Spain y CAB, Citizens advice bureau Gibraltar & International. Estas entidades tienen características comunes en el sentido de ayudar, aconsejar e integrar a la ciudadanía y defender los derechos humanos. ECAS, "Servicio Europeo de Acción Ciudadana" forma parte de la comisión Europea pero "No gubernamental" en el área de derechos humanos, migración con particular observación en miembros ciudadanos comunitarios Europeos. CAB, "Citizens advice bureau Spain" y "Citizens advice bureau Spain y CAB, Citizens advice bureau Gibraltar & International"
, es una asociación ONG en el área de integración, apoyo y ayuda en general a la ciudadanía frente a cualquier burocracia de un estado. Los temas que se trataron se fundamentaron básicamente en la colaboración entre Consistorio y empresas para amparar y ayudar a los trabajadores fronterizos con Gibraltar y la problemática causada por el BREXIT. Según comentaba el citado edil, "estimamos que en nuestra
localidad contamos con unas quinientas familias que dependen directa o indirectamente de los trabajadores fronterizos, por lo que desde el Ayuntamiento haremos todo lo posible porque su situación sea estable", finalizó. Las reuniones tanto con sectores como con asociaciones de este perfil se sucederán para estar informados de todos los detalles que suponga alguna alteración en la vida laboral de estas personas.

Mejoras en instalaciones deportivas municipales Las delegaciones de Infraestructura y Obras y Juventud y Deportes, dirigidas por Antonio Barragán y Agustín Vargas, continúan con las mejoras que se están llevando a cabo en las instalaciones deportivas municipales. A raíz de varias peticiones realizadas a través del buzón de sugerencias, muchos vecinos han solicitado una fuente en la nueva ciudad deportiva de Sabinillas. Una vez recogida la idea, esta fuente ya está en funcionamiento
en la entrada del complejo deportivo. También cabe destacar, como así se anunció hace varias semanas, que el campo municipal Las Viñas de Manilva ya cuenta con un graderío techado, lo que evitará que la lluvia y el calor puedan perjudicar a los aficionados. Ambos responsables municipales coincidían en afirmar que aunque sean pequeñas actuaciones, de lo que se trata es de ofrecer los mejores servicios a la ciudadanía.
Citizens Advice and Foreign Residents Department discuss the impact of Brexit for border workers On March 2, four members of the Citizens Advice Bureau Gibraltar braved the storms and travelled to Spain to spend the morning at the C.A.B legal clinic office in Manilva, Malaga. The team from Gibraltar included: The founder Pilar Rodriguez, office deputy manager Ivan Cruz and advisers Michael
Recagno and Sharlene Bossano. Consequently we were able to explicate the services CAB offers our citizens in Spain. We also spoke about further collaboration that will include ways of supporting cross border workers of all nationalities. Moreover, this has become imperative with the UK’s pending with-
drawal from the EU. The group also discussed the work of the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George with Judith Beaumont the charity manager. Judith provided information about their charity shops and the aid that they provide for groups in need in the surrounding areas. The group from both offices then met with Dean Tyler Shelton the British councillor for Manilva municipal government. Discussions on working together in the future were interesting and positive. Furthermore, the event was filmed for Manilva Television. The invitation will be reciprocated resulting in that councillor Dean and CAB Spain advisers will be visiting the CAB Gibraltar in the near future.
Improvements in municipal sports facilities The delegations of Infrastructure & Works and Youth & Sports, directed by Antonio Barragán and Agustín Vargas respectively, continue the improvements currently being carried out to the municipal sports facilities. Following several requests made through the suggestion box, many locals have requested a drinking water fountain in the new Sabinillas
Sports Pavillion. Since the suggestion was received, this drinking fountain has been installed at the entrance of the sports complex. It should also be noted, as it was announced several weeks ago, that the Las Viñas de Manilva football pitched already has a roofed grandstand, which will prevent rain and heat from affecting the fans.

British Ambassador to Spain to speak at the III Manilva Brexit Seminar Manilva’s Foreign Residents Department, headed by Councillor Dean Shelton, will host the III Manilva Brexit Seminar on Thursday 22 March, from 7 pm at the Villa Matilde, Sabinillas (in the park in front of Supersol). The keynote speaker for this event will be the British Ambassador to Spain, Simon Manley, who will be the first British Ambassador to make an official visit to Manilva. There will also be a number of other speakers who will discuss the latest developments in the long and drawn out negotiations for the future of the relationship between the UK and Europe once the UK leaves the EU. The seminar aims to inform and reassure all those who will be potentially affected by Britain leaving the EU and to lay to rest some of the rumours and conjecture that still infects parts of the media and expat community.

El Ayuntamiento de Manilva, a través de la delegación de Turismo, dirigida por Diego Urieta, continúa con la difusión fuera de nuestras fronteras de la marca Manilva Única. Habiéndose presentado en Granada con éxito, ahora le toca el turno a Sevilla, donde este fin de semana estará en las principales calles de la capital andaluza: zona turística de Setas, Ayuntamiento, calle Tetuán, Sierpes, alrededores del centro comercial de Nervión y el Estadio de fútbol Sánchez Pizjuán. Según comentó Urieta, a estas ciudades se llevará un gran repertorio de merchandaising como pulseras USB, 8.000 ejemplares de folletos con las 10 razones para visitar Manilva, bolígrafos, gorras y politos, todo ello seregrafiado con el nuevo logo de la Manilva Única. Otro de los atractivos de esta campaña será la posibilidad que
tendrán los ciudadanos de probar las gafas interactivas 3D, con las que podrá visualizar el municipio de manera espectacular. Las azafatas serán las encargadas de repartir el merchandaising y los folletos de Manilva y utilizarán las gafas para que el turista potencial conozco las zonas más interesantes. Con dichas gafas virtuales además de las pulseras usb MANILVA se acerca y adapta a la corriente de las nuevas tecnologías que la que estamos inmersos. Una promoción turística de bajo coste que tendrá una repercusión sobresaliente fuera de nuestras fronteras, como ya se hizo el pasado año en época de Semana Santa. Manilva Única campaign moves on to Seville Manilva’s tourism department, directed by Councillor Diego Urieta, continues with the promotion of the Manilva Única brand, at some of the country’s major population centres. After a successful campaign in Granada, now it is the turn of Seville, where this weekend representatives will be in the main streets of the Andalucian capital. According to Urieta, representatives will be handing promotional gifts such as USB wristbands, 8,000 copies of brochures with the 10 reasons to visit Manilva, pens, caps and polos, all of which will be stamped with the new Manilva Única logo. Passersby will have the opportunity to view a video of Manilva through interactive virtual reality headsets.
The hostesses will be in charge of distributing merchandising and Manilva brochures and will use the glasses so that the potential tourist can view the most interesting areas. With these virtual glasses in addition to the USB wristbands, Manilva and adapts to the latest of the new technologies available. This low-cost tourism promotion will have an outstanding impact outside our borders, and follows on the success of last year’s campaign during Easter. Según comentaba el alcalde, Mario Jiménez, en una comparecencia pública a través del facebook municipal: "pretendemos hacer partícipe a nuestros vecinos y que con sus firmas tengamos aún más fuerza en el ministerio para que Manilva forme parte del proyecto del tren de cercanías que conectará la Costa del Sol", apuntó.

RECLAMACIONES DE DAÑOS CONTRA LA COMUNIDAD DE PROPIETARIOS
L
as Comunidades de propietarios son responsables civiles de los daños que causen a terceros o incluso a sus propios comuneros, derivados del mal funcionamiento o negligencia en el cuidado de sus elementos comunes. Con carácter general se consideran elementos comunes, las antenas y sistemas de comunicaciones, ascensores, azoteas o cubiertas, calefacción, cerramiento de zonas comunes de edificios o urbanizaciones, cimentaciones, conducciones y canalizaciones, corredores y pasillos, elementos de cierre y revestimientos exteriores, elementos estructurales (el art.396 CC, tras hablar en general de elementos estructurales, enumera en concreto los pilares, vigas, forjados y muros de carga). Su regulación fundamentalmente de todo lo concerniente a las comunidades de propietarios, se encuentra en la Ley de propiedad Horizontal. La comunidad de propietarios ha de guardar siempre las garantías y procurar que sus elementos constructivos estén en perfecto estado de conservación. Así lo dispone la Ley de Propiedad Horizontal (LPH) en su art.
10 cuando establece que la Comunidad de Propietarios está obligada a la realización de las obras necesarias para el adecuado sostenimiento y conservación del inmueble y de sus servicios, de modo que éste reúna las debidas condiciones estructurales, de estanqueidad, habitabilidad, accesibilidad y seguridad. Si como consecuencia de la no realización de las obras imprescindibles de mantenimiento de los elementos comunes, se produce un daño a una persona o a alguna vivienda, la comunidad puede ser responsable civilmente, pero también podría responder bien directa o indirectamente el Administrador o Presidente que no tomaran las medidas adecuadas para el correcto sostenimiento de las obras de reparación urgente, cuando exista constancia de que la no reparación puede causar un perjuicio a un tercero. Si la Comunidad de Propietarios no cumple con las obligaciones que establece el citado precepto y se producen daños, hemos de distinguir dos supuestos dependiendo del perjudicado:
1. Puede ser un comunero. Por ejemplo, si se produce una avería en un bajante comunitario y las agua revierten y causan daño en elementos privativos de una vivienda de un comunero, si se producen filtraciones de aguas de lluvia desde una terraza comunitaria o fachada comunitaria o en el caso que se encuentre rota o mal conservada la solería del portal de la comunidad provocando una caída de uno de los comuneros. En estos casos podrán interponer una reclamación por daños contra la Comunidad en base al citado art. 10 LPH. 2. Si el perjudicado es un tercero, ajeno a la Comunidad y por tanto a las interrelaciones que nacen dentro del régimen de la propiedad horizontal, la acción se incardinaría dentro de la culpa extracontractual, donde el plazo de prescripción para reclamación por daños contra la Comunidad es de UN AÑO desde la existencia de los daños. DAMAGE CLAIMS AGAINST A COMMUNITY OF OWNERS Communities of Owners are civilly liable for damages caused to third parties or even members of their own community. When these damages are derived from the malfunction of community owned items or where there has been negligence in the care of community property. In general, community property could be any of the following; antennas and communication systems, elevators, roof terraces, roofing, heating installations, enclosures of common areas, buildings or urbanizations, foundations, pipes and ducts, corridors, locks, external coverings, structures, (Article.396 CC, lists in particular pillars, beams, slabs, and weight bearing walls). The regulations which govern Communities of Owners can be found in the Horizontal Property Law. Communities of Owners must always maintain the guarantees and ensure that all common constructions and areas are in perfect condition. Article.10 of the Horizontal Property Law (LPH) establishes that the Community of Owners is obliged to carry out the necessary works to sustain the proper maintenance and conservation of the property and its services, so that it meets the necessary structural, habitability, accessibility, safety and security conditions. If damage to a person or to a dwelling occurs as a result of neglect to maintain the common installations, areas, or property in perfect condition, the Community of owners can be held civilly responsible, but the Community President or administrator could also be directly or indirectly responsible. They are required by law to take the appropriate measures to ensure that no harm can occur to a third party by ensuring any urgent repair works, or maintenance is carried out immediately when there is evidence that the lack of maintenance could cause harm to a third party or dwelling. If the Community of Owners does not comply with the obligations established in the Article.10 of the Horizontal Property Law (LPH) and damages do occur, we cite two cases to demonstrate the difference in claims depending on the affected party 1. 1. – If the affected party is an owner in the community and falls due to inadequate maintenance by the Community of Owners i.e. a broken tile or poorly preserved community entrance floor, or if damage is caused to their property due to a leaking community drainpipe, a leak from a community terrace, or a leak from a community façade, they should file a claim for damages against the Community based on Article. 10- LPH. 2. If the affected party is a third party, i.e. not an owner inside the community, the method of reclamation from the community is governed by different criteria and the period for a claim is limited to ONE YEAR FROM THE DATE OF THE DAMAGE OR INJURY Therefore, if you have problems with a Community of Owners, it is important to have an expert lawyer to advise you and manage your claim, to protect your rights and to be able to obtain full compensation for the damages caused. Andalucía se prepara para su Semana Santa Este año, la Semana Santa comienza el domingo 25 de marzo, Domingo de Ramos, y finaliza el 1 de abril, Domingo de Resurrección. Aunque la Semana Santa es una tradición nacional en toda España, es en Andalucía donde se puede vivir el máximo fervor de la celebración más importante del Cristianismo. Por toda la región, en casi todas las ciudades y pueblos, las hermandades y cofradías religiosas sacan sus pasos e imágenes en procesión, recreando las diferentes escenas de la Semana Santa. Estos tronos son llevados por los costaleros, llamados así porque tradicionalmente usaban un saco relleno o costal para ayudarles a soportar el peso de los tronos, algunos de los cuales pesan varias toneladas y requieren cientos de costaleros para llevarlos. Cada hermandad está asociada con una parte concreta de la historia de Semana Santa y las procesiones, en las que a veces participan miles de miembros, salen en el orden correcto según La Pasión, comenzando el domingo antes de Semana Santa, el Domingo de Ramos. Una de las partes más importantes de la procesión es cuando el trono o paso sale de la iglesia respectiva, una maniobra que a menudo requiere una gran habilidad y coordinación por parte de los costaleros y del líder, cuyo trabajo es guiar el trono. Los tronos van acompañados
por penitentes o Nazarenos, algunos de los cuales llevan capirotes, una especie de gorro en forma cónica que oculta al que lo lleva, y que recuerdan al espectador a aquellos que llevaba el Ku Klux Klan. Otros penitentes pueden ir descalzos, o incluso con los ojos vendados. Otra parte intrínseca de la procesión es la banda de música. Algunas solamente tocan en las procesiones de Semana Santa, y tocan piezas de música procesional escritas específicamente para la Semana Santa. A nivel local, las procesiones de San Roque son de las más importantes en la zona, y han sido declaradas “Evento de interés turístico” por la Junta de Andalucía. Muchas de las imágenes que procesionan por las calles de San
Roque durante la Semana Santa datan del siglo XVI, y los residentes de San Roque las trajeron con ellos cuando dejaron Gibraltar y se establecieron en su nuevo pueblo, alrededor de la Ermita de San Roque, tras haber sido ocupado su hogar por el ejército anglo-holandés durante la Guerra de Sucesión Española. Hay varias procesiones, pero la más destacada es la del Viernes Santo, con pasos con 14 imágenes que representan el Viacrucis, y es la única procesión “Magna” que se celebra anualmente en toda Andalucía. Independientemente de tus creencias religiosas, es casi imposible no sentirse conmovido con estas procesiones, y se recomienda encarecidamente que veas al menos una de las procesiones de Semana Santa.
Andalucia prepares for Easter celebrations This year Semana Santa (Easter) falls on the week beginning Sunday 25 March, Palm Sunday, and ends on 1 April, Easter Sunday. Whilst Semana Santa is a national tradition throughout Spain, it is in Andalucia that the full fervour of christianity's most important celebration can be experienced. Across the region, in almost every city, town and village, religious brotherhoods and guilds parade through the streets carrying floats on which different scenes from the Easter story are depicted. These floats or 'Tronos' (thrones) are carried by the 'costaleros', so called because traditionally the used a stuffed sack or 'costal' to help bear the weight of the tronos, some of which weigh several tons and may require hundreds of costaleros to carry them. Each brotherhood is associated with a particular part of the Easter story and the processions, sometimes involving thousands of members, is enacted in the correct order according to the Passion, starting
on the Sunday before Easter, Palm Sunday. One of the most important part of the procession is when the float exits from the respective church, a manoeuvre often requiring great skill and coordination on the part of the costaleros and the leader whose job it is to 'steer' the trono. The floats are accompanied by penitents or Nazareños some of whom wear the capirotes, conical hats which disguise the wearer, and which remind the spectator of the Ku Klux Klan. Other penitents may go barefoot, whilst some are blindfolded. Another intrinsic part of the procession is the marching band, many of which are solely dedicated to performing in the Semana Santa processions, and play pieces of processional music written specifically for Easter. Locally, San Roque's Easter processions are some of the most important in the area and have been declared an 'Event of Tourist Interest' by the Junta de Andalucia.
Many of the statues paraded around the streets of San Roque during Easter Week date back to the 16th century and the residents of San Roque brought them with them when they left Gibraltar and established their new town around the Shrine of San Roque after their hometown was occupied by the Anglo-Dutch forces during the War of the Spanish Succession. There are several processions, but the highlight is the Good Friday procession which features floats with fourteen different images representing the Stations of the Cross, and is the only 'Magna' procession held annually in the whole of Andalucia. Regardless of your religious beliefs it is hard not to be moved by these processions, and it is highly recommended that you try and take in at least one of the processions during Easter week. DECISIÓN DE INVIERNO Moderadamente de acuerdo (rodó la noche con un beso de sí y de no). Honesto sol en el agua: un charco y una rueda de vehículo mojando al opulento, este, pasó en diciembre por la puerta del pobre muchacho enfermo. Ahora, contigo la flor se sujeta en los labios, el color del pueblo condensa en las paredes rosarios, y en las cinturas del viento, qué laberinto: ni que sí ni que no. Moderadamente en acuerdo. Moderadamente en desacuerdo. El militar se ha callado. Un ciudadano temblando acaricia su perro. El último litro de leche, el pan y el ajo (¿elementos del arado?), rostros de más lazarillos... El río pasa, al mundo lo establecen corrientes de agua y tiempo. Zapatillas en la luna rotas de hambre y fuego. Lucharemos juntos –son las horas–, trabajaremos juntos. Opresores, y luego soledades, sentimientos, corazones rasgados, inmunizados (¡ya basta!) entre órbitas de los cuerpos. Sí, o no, cómo ir pidiendo más tiempo –voluntad–. Grulla sin resuello, hevea ya sin caucho, Bergman sin el ‘Séptimo sello’. Moderadamente, qué templado el aire, ah, el impala –bóvido de salto grácil–, para salvarse del cazador –era invierno–, decidió alejarse del bosque hacia otros cerros más al norte. Moderadamente en acuerdo. Moderadamente en desacuerdo. Tibio encaje de cigüeñas por los cerros de mi pueblo.

Tantos horizontes por mirar..., y tener la sensación de que solo me queda un paisaje por descubrir. Contemplar las fuentes y los helechos y la grama de mí mismo, la altura, la frescura, aljibes lacerados que pintan el invierno, el hombre al que le pesa la ribera marcada. Ahora lo haré porque estoy solo y porque quiero (cuidaré de no hacer un albergue de mí mismo), por ejemplo, me iré a la sandía bella y roja de una tarde de agosto, pero solo, solo en un dosel, solo en un emblema, solo en la soledad sublime de los niños, solo en los esqueletos de los corpulentos, solo sin soledad que se arraigue en mis noches, solo sin ropaje, musgo de luna y cielo en mi huerto; pero no solo en el moribundo aislado, ese que otros ven en mí, ausente (quieren saber si bordeo el camino); pero no solo en el puchero frío del solitario. A pesar de los años, eso que busco es lo distinto; rechazo las membranas que imponen los artículos, desorbita la persiana si se abre al llanto del mundo, entregaron mi caudal al beso popular de suspiros, (refleja la mirada un beso psíquico), pero el beso, que sea un buen beso y haga historia por si las libertades se enamoran de las culturas provincianas para lograrlas globales (ya sé, no me entrenaron
para asistir a conciertos, y ahora perdonad mi descuido la semana pasada). ¿De qué quiero escapar? De nada. ¿Con quién deseo estar? Conmigo mismo y con mi prístino amigo sellado en su guitarra. No quiero preguntarme si soy yo, si los minutos que viví y los que me quedan son míos, porque entonces, son solamente minutos. ADANA the Estepona dog rehoming charity is preparing for the coming Spring season with a programme of activities designed to appeal to all members of the local community, especially dog-lovers and owners. The ADANA Board has planned several events for the coming weeks, including a sponsored Dog Walk to take place on Saturday April 7th from the Estepona Palacio Car Park to the Town Centre, an Open Meeting at the Padre Manuel Centre Estepona, on Monday April 16th and culminating in the much-loved annual Dog Show to be held at the Estepona Palacio on Sunday April 29th. This popular event features a range of competitions and stalls offering a variety
of dog-focused products as well as an exciting display by the Canine Unit of the Estepona Policia Local. As well as the above activities, ADANA is hoping that even more visitors will come to the Shelter in the beautiful Parque de los Pedregales to see the work we do and to walk and maybe fall in love with and adopt one or more of our

February is the month for the mad mayhem of Carnival! It precedes the 40 days of Lent, during which we fast in preparation for Holy Week. When I say “we” I don’t mean ICE members of course – no sackcloth and ashes for us! This year we got out our brightest beachwear and garlands and celebrated with a Caribbean Carnival Supper: a meal of ribs or chicken plus all the authentic extra touches, prepared by Wilma and her team, followed by Latin dancing to the Cuban sounds of the fabulous Teo and his glamorous partner. Then on Shrove Tuesday it was pancakes, tossed while racing round the pool, and eaten with the traditional toppings. Apart from all our regular activities we ended the month with a trip to Malaga. Some visited the Victoria Brewery, some shopped at the Larios Centre, some just made the
most of what this stunning city has to offer, and of course we all had a lovely lunch. (Not much fasting goes on at ICE!) In March we’ll be celebrating St. Patrick’s Night with the usual home-made entertainment. Then there’s the latest ICE Players’ production followed by a buffet supper, and a guided tour of San

Movies and musicals evening raises over 1,000 euros for Saint George Charity
BuddyUp (Manilva) Community Support Group is launched
It was nearly a full house on Saturday 3 March at Ringos Cavern Bar and Restaurant for the annual Movies and Musicals night in aid of the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George. The audience enjoyed an evening of live music and a carvery dinner, with big thanks going to the singers Peter Charles, Daniela Caballero, Ashley Bloor and Frankie BatesonPayas who all gave their time for free. Thanks also go to the management and staff at Ringos and to Tony and Hev Gates for organising the event which raised over 1,000 euros.
In response to a tragic situation earlier in the year a number of local residents have come together to form the BuddyUp (Manilva) Community Support Group, a ‘befriending’ group to provide support, comfort and a point of contact for people facing a variety of challenges. The BuddyUp group is coordinated by Marguerite Wilkins, and already has a number of members signed up. Working closely with other local charities and organisations, including the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George, Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva, Citizens’ Advice, Cudeca, Social Services, etc., the group aims to provide support and advice for the elderly, disabled, those who have recently lost a partner, single parents, divorcees, the socially excluded, people that are new to the area, in fact anyone who might need someone to talk to or just pointing in the right direction.

Citizens Advice Bureau Spain weekly surgery The Duquesa Charitable Society of St George is hosting a weekly surgery by Citizens Advice Bureau Spain every Wednesday morning from 10.30 am to 1 pm. The surgery will be held at the St George Charity’s new shop in Calle Aurora de Albornoz, Punta Almina, Sabinillas, and is part of the Charity’s community support programme.
If you would like to see one of CAB Spain’s advisers then pop along to the shop on Wednesday morning, although it is advisable to book an appointment as it can sometimes be busy. All consultations are free but CAB Spain is funded by donations, so if you feel that their advice has been valuable then please make a donation in the tin provided.

Love to Sing Choir BIG is Beautiful Though maybe NOT for everyone!
September 2017 saw the formation of a locally based choir created for those of us who love to sing, having been a choir member previously or not. The "Love to Sing" choir is multi national and at present has approximately 50 members. We meet every Wednesday evening between 7-9pm at Ringos bar, Pueblo Mexicano to rehearse. The choir is extremely lucky to have Shirley Helleur as our musical director, she is an extremely experienced musician and has a wealth of expertise in the business
of turning "bath time buskers" into reasonable singers! Throughout the year the choir will perform a repertoire of songs at various events and at each performance any donations collected will be in aid of St. George's charity in order to support the local community and those in need. We shall look forward to welcoming anyone who would like to come along and join in as meeting people, making new friends and having fun are an important part of our choir. Another popular way to remove a tick is to “twist” it off. There is even a “Tick Twister” tick remover. The idea behind rotating the tick came from the misconception that ticks screw themselves into the skin and so you can remove by “unscrewing” them. However, ticks don’t do this. They do attach their hypostome, and the barbs can get stuck in the skin if you rotate the tick, but not always.

• • Obviously, you don’t want these things hanging around on your dog but they can be really hard to get out safely. And don’t think they will just leave on their own. According to Tickencounter.org, “Generally if undisturbed, larvae remain attached and feeding for about 3 days, nymphs for 3-4 days, and adult females for 7-10 days. Deer ticks feed a day or so faster than Lone Star ticks and American dog ticks.”
For decades people have used all sorts of creative ways to removes ticks, including fire, grease, soap and water, etc. LymeNetEurope. org says doing anything to “irritate” tick to get it to release on its own is a BAD IDEA.

So what IS the best way?
There is even a “Tick Twister” tick remover. One of the biggest issues is that everyone has conflicting and unclear advice when it comes to tick removal. For example, www.tickencournter. org says, “Don’t worry if the head stays in, just disinfect the area with rubbing alcohol.” On the other hand, LymeNetEurope.org says the opposite (and gives a good reason for it as well): “If the head of the tick remains in place, then the salivary glands may still be there, with possibly pathogens. Then there is still a potential risk of contamination! Try to remove the tick’s head as well and if it fails, consult a doctor.” They do mention that if part or all of the hypostome (the barbed parts of the tick that go into the skin) is what stays in, there is probably no risk for continued contamination.
The first thing to realize is that marketing is marketing and business is business. People selling tick removal kits are going to tell you theirs is the “safest, best, most effective, etc.” But that doesn’t mean it’s true. LymeNetEurope.org says this: “Scientific research shows that tick removal with a fine point tweezers is one of the best methods, and in general the recommended method. Such a tweezers is easy to handle and the chance of squeezing the tick is small.” They make an important distinction here – be sure to use fine point tweezers and not the normal broad, flat tip tweezers because with the flat ones you run the risk of squeezing the tick (which could release more pathogens) and/or you could break the tick apart.

Målaga – La Concepcion Botanical Gardens
I
n the 19th Century the Marquis of Casa Loring built a country house and planted the gardens with tropical and sub tropical flora from America, Asia, Africa and Oceania. In 1943 it was declared a historical and artistic garden. In 1990 it was purchased by Malaga City Council and opened to the public in 1994. Since then the gardens have been developed, the last portions being opened
to the public in 2009. There are routes within the park suitable for everybody. Some are suitable for wheelchairs, some for those who enjoy a short stroll and the forest walk is best undertaken in good shoes or trainers. Altogether there are over 4 kilometers of paths and tracks to explore. Throughout the park there are benches and picnic areas and there is a restaurant with service
areas near the entrance. This is a day out that can be enjoyed by every member of the family. There are two times in the year when the gardens are at their best, autumn and spring after heavy rain. In autumn you may expect to see some flowering trees and exotic ground plants from the jungles of South America and Africa whilst in spring the wisteria and water plants are at their best.

In the pools the water lilies are flowering and the magnificent wrought iron pergola alongside the Loring mansion is enveloped in blue Wisteria. In the middle section of the park a stream has been diverted into a series of pools and streams that cascade down the hill in a natural defile planted with monstera deliciosa, strelitzia, small palms and other plants normally found on a sun dappled jungle floor. The result is a lush green panorama with occasional bursts of vivid reds and oranges. Rising through them are various species of ficus, many with intricately columned and twisted trunks and exposed roots providing a striking architectural framework. Further up the hill the trees become thinner and you emerge onto a Mediterranean sun scorched slope with native species such as ipomea and every colour of bindweed and dog rose vying for attention. At the western end of this area cactus from all over the world find a hospitable environment to thrive. Slightly lower than the cactus
garden are the formal gardens. A Roman style circular pergola stands at one end of a long pool with stately, slender Cyprus trees providing an avenue of view over the whole of Malaga city. The hillside below is ablaze with bougainvillea and the banks are covered with fragrant blue rosemary and other herbs. The eastern end of the park is a complete contrast. This area was originally the orchard supplying the estate and there are still orange,
lemon and pomegranate trees, some nearly 200 years old and still flowering and fruiting. The remainder of this part is devoted to trees from all over the world. A tall, exotic Erythrina crista-galli from Uruguay has an umbrella shaped crown covered in orange flowers similar to a lily. The first flowers actually appear before the leaves to attract the first of the new season’s insects. Normally conservative explorers, seeing this tree for the first time, called it the Cockspur Coral Tree in a rare burst of poetic exuberance. Nearby is an equally exotic Bauhinia from the Chinese Himalayas with huge pink flowers similar to an hibiscus but much more delicate and with a very pale green leaf. Not for nothing is it known as the Orchid Tree. Returning to the centre sections you can cool off walking in the shade of 10 metre high stands of black bamboo, each stem is an ebony black wand with a tuft of green leaves at the tip. Nearby is the more common golden bamboo that can grow at the rate of 1 centimetre per day.

efore even out of the car in the car park you will see towering over the dividing wall, an unusual tree in full flower, a succulent, deciduous, flowering tree from Argentina and Brazil. The Chorisia has a fleshy trunk and branches with huge thorns to ward off any animal likely to consider it a meal. The flowers are large funnel shaped and in shades of pink and white. Inside the gardens, luxuriant after the rains, it resembles wandering through a jungle with tall palms and bare trunked exotic trees and their high branches, closely planted beneath with plants normally found on the jungle floor, there is a second unusual flower near a 12 foot high poinsettia with its brightly coloured bracts, a creamy coloured flower on a Monstera deliciosa. This is a real treat since the Monstera only flowers when the plant is well established and then only infrequently. There are hundreds of Monsteras in the gardens, climbing the trees and the sides of waterfalls so the chances of finding one or two in flower is good. The flowers are 20 to 30cm high, creamy coloured spathes hidden beneath the large pinnate leaves. The fruit is edible, cream in colour and cone shaped. You should see another flowering jungle floor plant from South America, a Zamia. The flower is a tall, felted, cone-like flower spike rearing up from the centre of a whorl of primitive looking leaves. Between these treasures there is a host of flowering mid level shrubs, all striving to find a little ray of sunshine, including the spectacular Erythrina or Coral Tree, and a lovely double flowered, deep red Hibiscus. Back to ground level there are any number of more common flowering plants and a favourite on this visit, a perfect specimen of a Strelitzia.
ne article can only give a taste of the plant treasures that you will encounter at every turn of the path. For adults the gardens are a place of wonder and the nearest most will get to a jungle without donning a pith helmet and taking up a machete. For children it is a magical place, their imaginations filling it with demons and fairies reminiscent of tales told in the nursery, and, who knows, there could easily be a goblin beneath that bridge over the dashing stream in the gloom of the metre wide leaves of the Monsteras rambling up the Ficus trees.

Sí horas de ejercicio pueden quemar muchas grasas, pero no todos los ejercicios son iguales, y algunas tablas de ejercicios pueden quemar grasas pero también músculo, y eso es un no definitivo. MOVEMENT Move your body every day! And I'm not calling it exercise. So few people are active, some don't even walk anywhere. Aim to increase the amount of steps you take each day, buy a Fitbit, measure how far you walk,and set yourself a goal, I try and walk 10-000 steps a day , and I love it!
EXERCISE Remember not all exercise is equal - for best results I always recommend splitting your workouts , be sure to include specific compound strength training moves, such as deadlifts, squats, push ups, pull ups and shoulder press. This will increase your muscle mass which is of great benefit. But to burn fat you really need to work on

The Mental Caddie After publishing The Mental Caddie, (available on Amazon) I was inundated with people asking me if the book was about me being a crazy or mental caddie, knowing that I work as a golf coach and professional tour caddie. Others asked if the book was written only for caddies and professional golfers to read. I had to constantly explain to people that the book was written in such a way that non-golfers could

Being a full time caddie I spend a lot of time around the world’s finest professional golfers, watching and learning. I pass on all the knowledge I have gathered to my young amateur golfers, who also hope to make it one day in the world of pro golf. I teach these young impressionable minds with stories and anecdotes, through humour and fun. My pearls of wisdom and how I delivered them while caddying, have produced some amazing stories of miracles and success. That is what my book is all about. It was written to inspire people, to give the reader a feel for my passion and love for the mental game of golf. A saddening statistic in the world of golf is that there is as many people a year who take up the game, as there is who leave it. I have heard stories of people going for
a first lesson in golf and getting so disheartened that they can’t hit the ball, they never try again. The coaches they went to, broke their golfing spirit before even teaching them passion and creativity. l Club Internacional de Esgrima “AndaluZía” junto con el Ayuntamiento de Manilva, Concejalía de Deportes y Cultura organizaron el pasado fin de semana el V Torneo Internacional Villa de Manilva. Más de 70 participantes de las principales provincias andaluzas, Clubes y colegios de la zona tomaron parte en categorías de menores de 10, 12, 15 años, absolutos y veteranos.

También tuvo lugar una muestra de esgrima escénica a cargo de Lara García y Javier Domínguez de la Escuela de Artes Escénicas de Málaga que realizaron una gran coreografía de danza y esgrima maravillando a todos los presentes. Las diferentes actividades animaron al público y a los tiradores que midieron sus armas en las estancias del Castillo que cumple su 250 aniversario. Sus muros y almenas se poblaron de niños y mayores que disfrutaron no solo de una bonita jornada deportiva sino también de una competición de miniziorros con la participación de los más pequeños. En la sala de exposiciones del Castillo se presentó el trabajo “La persistencia del movimiento”, fotografías artísticas de esgrima deportiva y escénica realizadas por los prestigiosos fotógrafos Arturo Umbría, José Mari Moya y José Luis Bollar. Esta exposición también mostrará antiguos objetos relacionados con la esgrima y una muestra de armas blancas del mundo donada por el Sr. Carlos González Montesinos. Los jóvenes tiradores del Club “AndaluZía” se alzaron con los principales galardones destacando la victoria de Joanna Kustra en categoría absoluta
femenina y Efraim Carrión en categoría masculina con solo 15 años, con un meritorio podium para Adrian Agustyn, Gabriel Miño y Juanjo Esquivel. En categoría juvenil resultó ganadora Amelia Deardon y en chicos Fran Pérez y Daniel Arminio con muy buena actuación de María Galán, Marta Serrano y Alicia López de la Escuela de esgrima base de San Roque. Consiguieron su condecoración Dani, Leandro, Luis, Mateo, Cristopher, Guzmán, Luz, Pablo, Dimma, Alan, Chloe, Leo, Carla, John, Antonio, Juan, Javier, Emma, Nico, Freddy, Nicolás, Christian, Jake, Shasha, Catherine, Viona, Thomas, Gabriel, Sofía, Manuel, Alejandro y Mathew. Participaron y ayudaron al maestro Alberto Zerrada a organizar el torneo Miguel Fernández y Esmeralda Parrado, monitores del club sin los cuales habría sido imposible la organización del mismo. Enhorabuena a todos los involucrados en el evento y a las autoridades que facilitaron la celebración del mismo con una gran asistencia de público y participantes que disfrutaron del monumento y de nuestro municipio durante todo el fin de semana.

he International Fencing Club "AndaluZía" together with Manilva’s Department of Sports and Culture organized last month the V Manilva International Fencing Tournament. More than 70 participants from the main clubs from across Andalucia took part in categories of under 10s, 12s, 15s, absolute, and veterans. There was also a show of dramatic fencing by Lara García and Javier Domínguez from the School of Performing Arts of Málaga who performed a great choreography of dance and fencing, thrilling everyone present. The different activities entertained the public, and the fencers battled it out in the rooms of the Castle that celebrates its 250th anniversary. Its walls and battlements were populated by children and adults who enjoyed not only a beautiful sports day but also a mini-zorros competition by the youngest fencers. The exhibition "The persistence of the movement" was presented in the exhibition hall of the Castle, with artistic photographs of sports and dramatic fencing by the prestigious photographers Arturo Umbría, José Mari Moya and José Luis Bollar. This exhibition will also show antique objects related to fencing and a collection of weapons from around the world donated by Mr. Carlos González Montesinos.
The young fencers of the Club "AndaluZía" won the main awards with the highlight being the victory of Joanna Kustra in the women's absolute category and Efraim Carrión in the male category at just 15 year's of age, with a creditable podium finish for Adrian Agustyn, Gabriel Miño and Juanjo Esquivel. In the juvenile category, Amelia Deardon won, and in the boys Fran Pérez and Daniel Arminio. María Galán, Marta Serrano and Alicia López from the fencing school of San Roque also performed very well. Also decorated were Dani, Leandro, Luis, Mateo, Cristopher, Guzmán, Luz, Pablo, Dimma, Alan, Chloe, Leo, Carla, John, Antonio, Juan, Javier, Emma, Nico, Freddy, Nicolás, Christian, Jake, Shasha , Catherine, Viona, Thomas, Gabriel, Sofia, Manuel, Alejandro and Matthew. Participated and also helping maestro Alberto Zerrada to organize the tournament were Miguel Fernández and Esmeralda Parrado, monitors of the club without whom it would have been impossible to organize this event. Congratulations to all those involved in the event and the authorities who made the celebration possible with a great attendance by the public and participants who enjoyed the Castle and our municipality throughout the weekend.
