A medida que el año llega a su fin y en esta, la penúltima edición de The Resident de 2019, antes de pasar al modo navideño completo, ¡me gustaría hacer una pausa y reflexionar sobre un mundo enloquecido! Normalmente no hago comentarios sobre política y cosas por el estilo, veo mi papel como proveedor de información, y un periodista del que ciertamente no soy y nunca desearía ser acusado, pero sí me interesa mucho lo que sucede en El mundo y ahora solo puedo sacudir la cabeza con desesperación. Ahora, no me malinterpreten, tengo opiniones, como todos nosotros, pero siempre estoy dispuesto a escuchar un argumento razonado para otro punto de vista. En el pasado oscuro y distante cuando estaba en la escuela, nuestro maestro de inglés solía llevar a cabo un debate semanal en el que proponía un tema para discutir y pedía a la clase nuestras opiniones. El astuto profesor te pondría a discutir el punto de vista opuesto, esta fue una excelente manera de hacernos examinar el otro lado del argumento, y es una lección que recuerdo hasta el día de hoy. Ahora, si todos adoptaran esta forma de ver las cosas, tal vez no viviríamos en un mundo tan extremo y polarizado, uno que empeora cada año. Bueno, eso es todo, prometo que el editorial del próximo mes será todo oropel y luces de feria, así que hasta entonces y adiós.

www.theresident.eu As the year draws to a close and in 2019’s penultimate edition of The Resident, and before we go into full on Christmas mode, I’d like to pause and reflect on a world gone mad! I don’t normally comment on politics and the like, I see my role as a purveyor of information, and a journalist I certainly am not and would never wish to be accused of, but I do take a keen interest in what goes on in the world and I can only shake my head in despair. Now, don’t get me wrong I have opinions, like all of us do, but I am always prepared to listen to a reasoned argument for another point of view. Back in the dim and distant past when I was at school, our English teacher used to conduct a weekly debate in which he would propose a topic to be discussed and would ask the class for our opinions. The sneaky bugger would then set you to argue the opposite point of view, this was a great way to get us to examine the other side of the argument, and it is a lesson that has stayed with me to this day. Now if only everyone adopted this way of looking at things, maybe we wouldn’t live in such an extreme and polarised world, one which is getting worse and worse every year. En Casares pueblo la concejalía de Fiestas prepara una programación que estará protagonizada por el tradicional Belén Viviente y que además albergará otros eventos como un festival flamenco, musical infantil, poblado navideño, pista de patinaje y la tradicional cabalgata de Reyes. En Casares Costa la principal novedad este año es la celebración de una cabalgata de Reyes Magos que recorrerá las calles de Marina de Casares la tarde del 5 de enero, pero antes de eso la programación de Navidad ofrece numerosas actividades como un musical de Santa Claus, exhibición de las escuelas municipales de danza y teatro, poblado navideño, pista de patinaje y visita del Cartero Real. Como cada año, la programación recoge una tradicional merienda para los más mayores del municipio, una tarde de encuentro que tendrá lugar el 16 de diciembre en Secadero, el 17 en Casares Costa y el 18 en el pueblo. Como novedad se amplía la programación con una fiesta de versiones de pop-rock de los 80 que será el 28 de diciembre.

Y la calle y paseo de la Carrera, donde se emplazarán los puesto del mercado. La concejala de Cultura, Rocío Ruiz, informa que este año contará como novedad con un concurso para la realización de algunas las escenas, como la Anunciación, el Escribano y Herodes con su guardia pretoriana, cuyos ganadores serán gratificados económicamente. Para ello, desde el Ayuntamiento se van a elaborar unas bases en las que se especificarán las líneas de vestuarios, decoración y otros detalles a presentar por los concursantes, así como los premios que
se concederán a los ganadores. El plazo, para participar en este concurso y para que se puedan inscribir los puestos que se quieran instalar en el mercado está previsto, se abrirá del 18 de noviembre hasta el 5 de diciembre. La reunión celebrada en la tarde de ayer contó con la
presencia de representantes de la asociación de empresarios locales CIT Casares y del Ayuntamiento de Casares. Y aunque representantes de otras asociaciones no pudieron asistir, si han confirmado su participación en el evento, además del alumnado de las escuelas municipales de Baile y Teatro.

El Ayuntamiento prepara un plan de embellecimiento del casco histórico de Casares
Se trata de que todas las actuaciones que se realicen desde el Ayuntamiento de Casares a partir de ahora en el casco histórico se enmarquen en un mismo estilo, aclara Antonia Pineda , incidiendo además en el embellecimiento de las zonas ajardinadas y principalmente las entradas al casco histórico. Para ello, este Plan de Embellecimiento tendrá en cuenta varias líneas de actuación entre las que destacan las zonas verdes ajardinadas, que incluye las jardineras existentes, instalación de macetas y zonas ajardinadas en parcelas públicas. Y diferenciando por sus particularidades especiales las zonas del casco histórico, el recinto del castillo y las existentes en las entradas al pueblo por la curva de Las Cadenitas y por la travesía de la carretera de la Costa (MA-8300) en la zona del Cerro y el Puerto de la Cruz. Asimismo, este plan marco contempla
la iluminación de algunos elementos singulares con el fin de resaltar su importancia. Y va a determinar el estilo del mobiliario urbano, bancos, papeleras, farolas y otros elementos que se instalen en los próximos años en todas las zonas públicas del casco histórico. Para contratar la redacción del proyecto, desde la Concejalía de Infraestructuras se trabaja con diferentes empresas especializadas, conocidas por el buen trabajo realizado en planes similares para otras localidades de la provincia. La Concejala de Infraestructura ha informado que el Ayuntamiento va a librar una partida presupuestaria para comenzar a trabajar a fondo el próximo año en este proyecto, y la intención es llevarlo a pleno para su aprobación y que sea incluido para su ejecución en el Plan General de Ordenación Urbana y en el Plan Especial de Rehabilitación del Casco Histórico.

Este nuevo tramo, que se está ejecutando en estos momentos, se incluye dentro de las obras que está llevando a cabo el Consistorio para la creación de una ronda norte de circunvalación que conectará todo el término municipal y que estará concluida antes de que finalice este año. El nuevo tramo va integrado en el acerado de los nueve viales que se están construyendo en este entorno y discurre paralelo a la zona peatonal. Medirá 2,5 metros de anchura, está construido en hormigón fratasado y se está pintando en tonos azules. De hecho, en estos días se están llevando a cabo los últimos trabajos de pintura, que consistirán en la realización de señales que indicarán el paso de ciclistas así como el pintado de pasos de peatones, lo que garantizará el tránsito seguro entre estos y los viandantes. Con esta actuación se da un importante paso para seguir ampliando la red de carril bici a una zona de Estepona que está experimentando un importante desarrollo urbanístico. De esta manera
se facilitará la movilidad en esta área urbana y se avanzará en el proyecto de ir conectando toda la ciudad con carriles bicis. Junto a esta iniciativa de dar continuidad al carril bici para fomentar el uso de la bicicleta, el Ayuntamiento continúa impulsando el proyecto del Corredor Litoral para que los ciclistas también puedan disfrutar de este medio de transporte frente al mar. De momento, son ya 18 los kilómetros de costa que están conectados a través de tramos de senda litoral. El objetivo municipal es que durante 2020 puedan transitarse los 22 kilómetros de costa de forma ininterrumpida. Además, el Ayuntamiento continuará potenciando el uso de la bicicleta con marchas cicloturistas por la ciudad y a través de actividades deportivas dirigidas a todo tipo de públicos. En cuanto al nuevo tramo de carril bici que se está ejecutando
en la ronda norte, el Ayuntamiento recuerda que se trata de un proyecto de gran envergadura que implica la creación de una gran infraestructura viaria que se complementa con una amplia dotación de servicios en la zona norte de la ciudad. Este proyecto, que está valorado en su totalidad en 7 millones de euros, implica la construcción de nueve viales -que suman más de 42.000 metros cuadrados de superficie- para conectar el Parque Ferial, el Auditorio Felipe VI, la parte norte de Juan Benítez y enlazar hasta la zona más oriental del núcleo urbano. Con esta nueva circunvalación se mejorará la circulación y la movilidad en la ciudad y creará una nueva ronda en la zona norte del municipio, que supondrá una alternativa a la existente en la avenida Andalucía, uno de los viales con mayor tránsito de vehículos.

The municipal objective is that during 2020 the entire 22 kilometers of coastline can be traversed continuously. In addition, the Council will continue to promote the use of bicycles with bicycle tours through the town and through sports activities aimed at all types of audiences. As for the new stretch of bike lane that is being built by the northern ring road, this is a large project that involves the creation of an extensive road infrastructure that is complemented by a wide range of services in the area North of the town. La obra de la iglesia católica apostólica ortodoxa que se construye en Estepona estará concluida en el segundo trimestre de 2020. El alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, ha realizado una visita de obra a este equipamiento religioso, que es el primero que se construye en Andalucía y el tercero de España. La iglesia, que cuenta con un
campanario de nueve metros de altura, se construye siguiendo el estilo arquitectónico bizantino, con influencias mediterráneas; de manera que todo el conjunto queda integrado en el entorno y la topografía existente. Se complementa, asimismo, con un centro cultural para actividades abiertas para todo el público. Ambos equipamientos
se construye sobre una parcela de 5.844 metros cuadrados, en la avenida Selwo. La entidad adjudicataria del proyecto – la Fundación Iniciativa Ortodoxa en la Costa del Sol - asume la financiación de la totalidad de las obras a ejecutar para dichos equipamientos; así como las obras de infraestructuras, urbanización y conservación. La construcción de la iglesia y el centro cultural ocupará una superficie de 1.400 metros cuadrados, por lo que el resto de la parcela (más de 4.400 metros cuadrados) se destinará a zonas ajardinadas. Por otra parte, el centro cultural ruso, que tiene un diseño más contemporáneo en forma de herradura, contará con aulas, oficinas, sala de usos múltiples y un patio interior, promoverá diferentes acciones culturales (exposiciones, conciertos, conferencias, seminarios, charlas y enseñanza de idiomas) para dar a conocer las tradiciones y costumbres de los cristianos ortodoxos que residen en la Costa del Sol. El regidor ha señalado que con este proyecto se pone en valor una parcela municipal que se encontraba en desuso y se da respuesta a las necesidades religiosas de los cristianos ortodoxos que residen en la Costa del Sol.
The work on the Orthodox Apostolic Catholic Church that is being built in Estepona will be completed in the second quarter of 2020. The Russian cultural centre, which has a more contemporary design in the shape of a horseshoe, will have classrooms, offices, a multipurpose room and an inner courtyard, will promote different cultural activities (exhibitions, concerts, conferences, seminars, talks and language teaching) to publicize the traditions and customs of Orthodox Christians residing on the Costa del Sol. El artista Krzysztof Kosowski, miembro de la Asociación de Pintores con la Boca y con el Pie, expone su obra en la Casa de Las Tejerinas El Ayuntamiento de Estepona informa de que la Casa de Las Tejerinas, sita en la Plaza de las Flores, acogerá desde el próximo viernes 15 de noviembre una exposición de cuadros del artista polaco, afincado en Estepona, Krzysztof Kosowski, miembro de la Asociación de Pintores con la Boca y el Pie, APBP. La muestra será inaugurada el día 15 a las 19:00 horas, y podrá ser visitada hasta el 29 de noviembre de martes a viernes, de 08:00 a 20:00 horas, y sábados de 09:00 a 14:00 y de 16:00 a 20:00 horas, con acceso libre. Lunes, cerrado. La APBP está dedicada a la venta de tarjetas, calendarios, agendas, láminas o puzzles, entre otros productos, realizados a partir de las reproducciones de la obra de artistas que, debido a su discapacidad física, ya sea por enfermedades o por accidentes, no pueden utilizar sus manos y pintan con la boca o con el pie. Su afán de superación los lleva a hacer un esfuerzo por mejorar la técnica y calidad de sus cuadros, por lo que comprando sus artículos, no sólo les ofrece su apoyo económico, sino también su reconocimiento, lo que les anima a superarse día a día y les hace sentir orgullosos de vivir de su trabajo. Krzysztof Kosowski nació en 1963 en un pueblo al norte de Polonia. En 1972 sufrió graves quemaduras en un accidente causado por una descarga eléctrica de alta tensión y, a consecuencia de ello,
le tuvieron que amputar los dos brazos. A partir de 1978 acudió a la escuela (Bachiller) de Wroclaw y después a la universidad, donde estudió Historia del Arte durante dos años. Poco después de su accidente empezó a pintar con la boca. Desde 1985 se dedicó más intensamente a la pintura realizada con la boca y con el pie, siendo autodidacta. En 1988 fue aceptado como becario en la Asociación VDMFK. En 2010 ascendió a Miembro Asociado y desde 2015 es Miembro de pleno derecho. Paralelamente a la pintura, Krzysztof dedica su tiempo a otras actividades, como la música, el
orientalismo y las grandes religiones del mundo. Sus técnicas preferidas son el óleo, la técnica mixta, la acuarela y la tinta china, y los temas favoritos de sus obras son motivos de fantasía y de cuentos de hadas. Durante su carrera artística ha presentado sus obras varias veces en exposiciones individuales y colectivas, organizadas en Polonia y otros lugares como Cracovia, Varsovia, Praga, Budapest, Viena, Barcelona o Noruega. Desde el año 2017 reside en Estepona con su familia, donde dice haber encontrado un lugar de inspiración para desarrollar su arte y su faceta creativa.

made from reproductions of the work of artists who, due to their physical disability, whether due to illness or accidents, cannot use their hands and paint with their mouth or feet. Their desire to improve their technique and quality of their paintings, so buying their items, not only offers them their financial support, but also recognition, which gives them a sense of purpose and achievement. Krzysztof Kosowski was born in 1963 in a town in northern Poland. In 1972 he suffered severe burns in an accident caused by a high-voltage electric shock and, as a result, both arms had to be amputated. From
1978 he went to the School of Wroclaw and then to university, where he studied Art History for two years. Shortly after his accident he began painting with his mouth. Since 1985 he devoted himself more intensely to painting done with his mouth and feett, being self-taught. In 1988 he was accepted as a fellow in the VDMFK Association. In 2010 he became an Associate Member and since 2015 he is a full member. Alongside his painting, Krzysztof devotes his time to other activities, such as music, orientalism and the great religions of the world. His favorite techniques are oil, mixed media, watercolor and Chinese ink, and the favourite themes of his works are fantasy and fairy tales. During his artistic career he has presented his works several times in individual and collective exhibitions, organized in Poland and other places such as Krakow, Warsaw, Prague, Budapest, Vienna, Barcelona or Norway. Since 2017 he has lived in Estepona with his family, where he says he has found a place of inspiration to develop his art and creativity.

El Ayuntamiento programa medio Estepona Council organises centenar de actividades culturales y de fifty cultural and leisure ocio para la Navidad activities for Christmas El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha presentado hoy el programa de actos culturales y de ocio previsto para la Navidad. La teniente alcalde del área Sociocultural, Begoña Ortíz, ha anunciado que se han organizado medio centenar de actividades lúdicas y de ocio para dinamizar estas fiestas navideñas. El programa, que está dirigido a todo tipo de público, incluye conciertos, muestras de Belenes, musicales, ballet, fiestas infantiles y eventos solidarios. Las actividades darán comienzo el próximo viernes 22 de noviembre con el encendido del alumbrado navideño en la plaza Antonia Guerrero, a las 19 horas. El evento contará con la participación de las pastorales de Estepona ‘Nostalgia Navideña’ y ‘Jesús Cautivo’. Por otra parte, el Auditorio Felipe VI tendrá especial protagonismo estas Navidades con una serie de eventos entre los que destaca la representación del espectáculo de ballet ‘El Cascanueces’ por parte del Ballet de Moscú. Será el sábado 28 de diciembre a las 20 horas. Además de la obra de Tchaikovsky, este equipamiento cultural acogerá el musical del ‘Flautista de Hamelín’ el domingo 1 de diciembre y el musical de Charles Dickens ‘Cuento de Navidad’, el viernes, 13 de diciembre. El sábado 4 de enero, la Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga ofrecerá un concierto benéfico de Año Nuevo bajo la dirección del maestro austríaco Georg Mark. Será a las 20 horas. A estas actuaciones hay que añadir el Concierto Extraordinario de Navidad de la Banda Municipal de Música, que será el sábado 14 de diciembre en el Auditorio Felipe VI. El programa de Navidad incluye también ‘La Noche de Papá Noel’, que tendrá lugar el sábado, 21 de diciembre, en la céntrica plaza Antonia Guerrero. La ciudad recibirá a Papá Noel con tres nevadas artificiales que tendrán lugar a las 19.00, 20.00 y 21.00 horas. Todos los niños que acudan vestidos de Papá Noel al primer pase serán obsequiados con un regalo, hasta agotar existencias. El sábado, 28 de diciembre, a
las 17 horas, se celebrará ‘El Aguinaldo’, una yincana organizada por Los 40 Principales por las calles del casco antiguo. Los interesados podrán inscribirse ese mismo día, a partir de las 17 horas, en la plaza Antonia Guerrero, donde habrá un set de animación. Por su parte, la concejala de Cultura, Macarena Diánez, ha indicado que la gastronomía también tendrá su protagonismo durante las fiestas navideñas. Así, los días 13, 14 y 15 de diciembre se celebrará la quinta edición de la Feria del Queso, en la plaza Antonia Guerrero. En esta feria gastronómica, organizada por el cortador de jamón ‘Popi’, se podrán adquirir y degustar también frutos secos, vinos, aceites y patés que se comercializan con la marca ‘Sabor a Málaga’. Diánez también ha agradecido a las distintas Hermandades de la ciudad que mantienen vivas las tradiciones de representación de Belenes en sus Casas Hermandad. A esto hay que añadir que el lunes 16 de diciembre se celebrará la entronización del Niño Jesús del Belén Municipal en el Parque Botánico Orquidario, a cargo del Grupo Joven de la Hermandad del Amor. Además, el programa de Navidad contempla actuaciones musicales gratuitas como el Concierto de navidad de la Coral Magnum Mysterium el sábado, 21 de diciembre, en la iglesia Nuestra Señora del Carmen o el Concierto del
Coro Internacional ‘Love to sing’ que interpretará canciones navideñas inglesas, el viernes 20 de diciembre, en la plaza Antonia Guerrero. Asimismo, ha comentado que, tal y como viene siendo tradicional, la plaza del Reloj acogerá el 31 de diciembre la fiesta de ‘Fin de Año’, que contará con fuegos artificiales y actuaciones musicales. Asimismo, el sábado 5 de enero se celebrará una Gran Fiesta Infantil por la mañana en el Parque Ferial y Deportivo para dar la bienvenida a los Reyes Magos de Oriente. El programa incluye también el IX Encuentro Musical Escolar, que será el martes 17 de diciembre en el Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos, y donde participarán las corales y agrupaciones musicales de los distintos centros educativos del municipio. En materia literaria, el viernes, 13 de diciembre, la Casa de Las Tejerinas, acogerá el encuentro literario con la escritora Cristina López Barrio, finalista del Premio Planeta 2017. La autora presentará su última novela ‘Rómpete, corazón’. Un día antes, el jueves 12 de diciembre, tendrá lugar la presentación ‘Sinatra: Nunca volveré a ese maldito país’, a cargo del periodista y escritor Francisco Reyero. Será en la Casa de las Tejerinas. Los actos se completan con otras actividades benéficas; así como por las organizadas por las diferentes Hermandades de Estepona.
Estepona Town Council recently presented the program of cultural and leisure events planned for Christmas. Councillor Begoña Ortíz, has announced that 50 events and leisure activities have been organized to brighten these Christmas holidays. The programme, which is aimed at all types of audiences, includes concerts, Nativity scenes, musicals, ballet, children's parties and charity events. The activities will begin on Friday, November 22, at 7 pm, in the Plaza Antonia Guerrero with the official switching on of the Christmas lights. The event will feature music by Estepona ‘Nostalgia Navideña’ and ‘Jesús Cautivo’. The Felipe VI Auditorium will feature prominently this Christmas with a series of events among which is a performance of the ballet ‘The Nutcracker’ by the Moscow Ballet on December 28 at 8 pm. In addition to Tchaikovsky's work, the theatre will also host the musical of the ‘Pied Piper’ on Sunday, December 1 and the musical version of Charles Dickens ‘A Christmas Story’, on Friday, December 13. On Saturday, January 4, the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a charity New Year's concert under the direction of Austrian conductor Georg Mark from 8 pm. To these performances we must add the Christmas Concert by the Estepona Town Band, which will be on Saturday, December 14 at the Felipe VI Auditorium. The Christmas programme also includes ‘Santa Claus Night’, which will take place on Saturday, December 21, in the central Antonia Guerrero square. The town will receive Santa Claus with three artificial snow falls that will take place at 7 pm, 8 pm and 9 pm. To this we must add that on Monday, December 16, the enthronement of the Infant Jesus in the Municipal Nativity Scene will be celebrated in the Orquidario Botanical Park, organised by the Joven de la Hermandad del Amor. Coffee Morning celebrates seven years The Councilor for Foreign Residents recently visited Kinsale Bar in Puerto de la Duquesa, to celebrate the 7th anniversary of the Coffee Morning. Forty people, who regularly take part in this language exchange event,
celebrated this long running social and educational activity. The Councillor who was accompanied by the area director, Mari Ángeles Ramos, thanked those present for their participation while encouraging

Tal y como estaba previsto, el nuevo embajador británico en España D. Hugh Elliot visitó en la tarde de ayer nuestra localidad para asistir al V Seminario sobre el Brexit. Por parte municipal, acudieron a la cita el alcalde de Manilva, Mario Jiménez, la concejala de Residentes Extranjeros, Laura López y los ediles Diego José Jiménez, Marcos Ruiz y Francisco Becerra. Cabe recordar que desde el Consistorio manilveño siempre se le ha ofrecido el apoyo, la información y el respaldo a los ciudadanos británicos que viven en nuestra localidad y sobre todo, mandarles un mensaje de tranquilidad en todo este largo proceso del Brexit. El 31 de enero de 2020 es el nuevo día fijado para el Brexit tras la
tercera prórroga concedida por Bruselas, que espera que para esa fecha el Parlamento británico tenga aprobado ya el acuerdo de salida, por eso el primer ministro Boris Johnson ha convocado elecciones anticipadas para el día 12 de diciembre. Ahora dependerá del resultado que

una excursión a Málaga para contemplar el alumbrado navideño. A lo largo de los años, los adornos y alumbrado de la calle Larios
en la capital se ha convertido en todo un reclamo. El espectáculo musical y de luces hace que cientos de personas acuden para presenciarlo. Los horarios y puntos de salida están especificados en el cartel. Los interesados pueden inscribirse tanto en Manilva, en la delegación de Cultura, situada en el Civima, como en Sabinillas en la delegación de Extranjeros, ubicada en el Edificio de Úsos Múltiples.

La Marcha Nórdica para mayores se pospone al 27 de noviembre La delegación de Deportes junto con la Diputación Provincial de Málaga anunciaban una iniciativa muy atractiva para los deportistas mayores de nuestra localidad: la Marcha Nórdica 2019, que se tenía previsto llevar a cabo mañana jueves. Consultadas las inclemencias meteorológicas para esta jornada, se ha decidido posponer la marcha al miércoles 27 de noviembre. Según el área dirigida por Manolo Gil, la salida tendrá lugar desde El Castillo a las diez y media de la mañana y las rutas serán de 6 kilómetros de distancia, aproximadamente. Los excursionistas recorrerán el litoral de nuestro municipio atravesando la Reserva Ecológica Playas de Manilva. Esta actividad tendrá un coste de
10 euros por persona, incluyendo la realización de la propia ruta y almuerzo en el pabellón de usos múltiples. Se dispondrá de un servicio de autobús, que recogerá participantes desde Manilva y Sabinillas a partir de las diez de la mañana. En esta iniciativa participarán también personas de otros municipios de la provincia de Málaga como Guaro, Tolox, Istán, Teba o Cortes de la Frontera, entre otros. Gaucin 25th Anniversary Christmas Fair This year the Gaucin Christmas fair celebrates its 25th anniversary on Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December from 10am to 5pm for the first time in the new Town Hall. Around 40 stalls have been reserved selling quality gifts, jewellery and local artisan products. Many local charities will be represented and this year the newly formed ADECA Gaucin animal charity commissioned the local school to design a calendar. The 12 winning entries were selected by renowned artist Joseba Sanchez Zabaleta and will be on sale at the fair and all the 100 entries will be on display. The road in front of the Town Hall will be closed off to accommodate the bar and lunch area and all day live music from Marcus Myers and The Poozy Brothers on the Saturday, with Elizabeth Zeder and mark Colley appearing on Sunday. Bench installed in memory of Peter 'Floria' Nette
Dozens of friends of the sadly departed Peter Nette recently gathered to inaugurate a bench installed in his honour on the site of Peter's iconic chiringuito 'La Floria' which was unfortunately destroyed in the storms of 2016. Before leaving office Dean Shelton arranged for the placement of the bench

GRAN ÉXITO DE LA CAMPAÑA DE LA RENTA 2019 En las últimas semanas han aparecido en las noticias informaciones oficiales de la Agencia Tributaria española sobre la campaña anual de la Declaración de la Renta llevada a cabo en los meses de abril, mayo y junio de 2019 y que correspondía al año fiscal 2018. Según las mismas, la campaña ha sido todo un éxito en cuanto a la cantidad de impuestos recaudados por la Agencia Tributaria, siendo de hecho la mayor en décadas. La Agencia Tributaria suele devolver más de lo que recauda y este año esperaba reembolsar 300 millones de euros a los contribuyentes. Sin embargo, finalmente se han recaudado 1.100 millones, por lo que el resultado ha sido mucho mejor de lo esperado por las autoridades.

Recently published official news from the Spanish Inland Revenue (Agencia Tributaria) provides information regarding the ANNUAL INCOME TAX RETURNS CAMPAIGN, (CAMPAÑA DE LA DECLARACÓN DE LA RENTA), carried out during April, May and June 2019, corresponding to the Tax Year 2018. According to this official information the campaign was a total success in terms of TAXES COLLECTED by the Tax Office, being the highest amount in decades. The tax office normally refunds money to citizens (around 300 MILLION EURO), but this time the Tax office received an extra 1,100 MILLION EURO. The total amount of tax collected by the tax office was much more than expected by the authorities. The reason for this increase in the total tax collected was because now all European Union countries interchange their tax information and this together with the taxes now being paid by the bigger private companies like Airbnb, Homeaway, etc. also contributed to this rise. Using the information provided by other EU countries the tax office has sent thousands of “Informative” letters to citizens suggesting that they should declare all their income in Spain, and this has proved to be very effective in many cases. In conclusion it could be said that the sharing of computer data by Tax offices is much easier and more effective nowadays. Resulting in the Spanish Tax Authorities having access to much more information than ever about citizens. Derechos y obligaciones de propietarios e inquilinos. Cuando se
alquila una propiedad, ¿quién es responsable de qué?
E
l tema de los alquileres, tanto de larga como de corta estancia, como tema de discusión, está en el orden del día en los foros comunitarios. Este año se ha aprobado nueva legislación y es importante que todos sepan las responsabilidades que tienen cuando alquilan su propiedad, y que los inquilinos sepáis también cuales son vuestros derechos y obligaciones. Independientemente del tipo de alquiler que elija, hay algunos elementos que deben tenerse en cuenta: Las cuotas comunitarias, la hipoteca, el impuesto municipal (IBI), etc. son siempre obligación del propietario, independientemente de los acuerdos privados alcanzados en los contratos de alquiler, incluso si se acuerda que el inquilino los pague. Si el inquilino no paga, entonces estos importes serán reclamados al propietario, que deberá demandar al inquilino por incumplimiento contractual. Estamos hablando de una propiedad privada, lo que se alquila es el derecho a usar la propiedad y todos los servicios asignados a esa propiedad en la Comunidad. Sin embargo, el contrato de alquiler puede excluir el uso de la piscina o aparcamiento, por ejemplo. Pero si no se excluyen, el propietario no puede usar la piscina, ni ninguna otra instalación, si se alquila la propiedad, ya que el derecho de uso se ha transferido a los inquilinos. Un inquilino no tiene ningún otro derecho sobre la propiedad que los especificados en el contrato y la legislación vigente. El inquilino no puede asistir a reuniones comunitarias, ya que este derecho es exclusivo para los propietarios, no puede influir o decidir sobre asuntos comunitarios y no puede ser elegido cargo dentro de la comunidad (presidente, vicepresidente, etc.). El inquilino podría asistir a las reuniones con una delegación de voto, al igual que podría ir cualquier otra persona enviada por el propietario para representarlo. Sin embargo, el propietario si es responsable del comportamiento del inquilino, por lo que si el inquilino está causando cualquier tipo de problemática, es el propietario quien será informado y se podrán presentar las denuncias correspondientes en las que sería identificado. En el peor de los casos, si hay un inquilino problemático y la policía tiene que involucrarse, podría haber acciones legales buscando la privación del derecho de uso de la propiedad durante un máximo de 2 años. Este sería el peor de los casos para un propietario, pero ha sucedido muchas veces.
Si decidís hacer alquileres vacacionales, ya sabe que el registro de Vivienda Turística es obligatorio. La propiedad deberá cumplir con la normativa vigente y los estándares mínimos mínimas (ventilación, luz natural, aire acondicionado, etc.), deberá proporcionar un teléfono de emergencias 24 horas y deberá registrar a todos los inquilinos con las autoridades competentes, incluyendo una copia de su documento de identidad. Todos los ingresos deben declararse, y las paginas online ya tienen la obligación de hacerle entrega a Hacienda de los registros de alquileres y de ingresos de dichas propiedades. En las comunidades que tienen un alto porcentaje de alquileres vacacionales, hay un aumento en el uso de las instalaciones de la comunidad, que da lugar a un aumento mantenimiento necesario, para mantener los estándares de la comunidad y el valor de las propiedades, así como la repercusión directa que esto puede tener sobre el precio del alquiler. Si no se lleva a cabo este mantenimiento adicional, la comunidad puede decaer y por lo tanto, verse afectado el valor de las propiedades. En tal caso, la inversión necesaria para mejorar esta situación podría ser considerable. Además, esto sin tener en cuenta las opiniones de los residente que han visto que la piscina está sobre ocupada, que no pueden usar las pistas de pádel y que tienen que recoger las bolsas de basura que los inquilinos dejan en las zonas comunes porque no saben donde están los contenedores ... La legislación española ha permitido recientemente que las comunidades incrementen las cuotas comunitarias de las viviendas turísticas en un máximo de un 20%, para que la comunidad no se vea perjudicada por estos alquileres y los costes adicionales. Esto está causando división entre los propietarios, ya que hay muchos que compraron propiedades como inversión y para quienes un aumento del 20% será una carga considerable. Pero también hay propietarios que entienden la situación y consideran que es una inversión en su propiedad que les ayudará a seguir recibiendo estos ingresos. Esto no es aplicable a alquileres a largo plazo, ni a alquileres vacacionales que hayan tenido lugar antes de que la comunidad aprobara el aumento. Para poder aplicarlo, los propietarios de la comunidad deben aprobarlo en junta por 3/5 de los propietarios presentes y representados. Por lo tanto, si se aprueba en una Junta, cualquier propiedad que se alquile para periodos vacacionales estaría sujeto al aumento. Como la comunidad no
puede establecer los períodos por los que alquila la propiedad, el aumento se aplica a las cuotas de todo el año, no solo a los meses en que se alquila. Así que me temo que es hora de sacar la calculadora y decidir si
vale la pena alquilar su propiedad como vacacional o si es mejor encontrar un buen inquilino a largo plazo para ocupar su propiedad. Para hablar conmigo en persona o si te gustaría que te preparara un presupuesto para la Adminis-

Owners and renters rights, who is responsible for what, when a property is rented
T
he subject of rentals, both long term and short term, is on the drawing board at the moment. New legislation was finally passed regarding holiday rentals this year, and I think it is a good subject to discuss, so that you know what you are responsible for when renting out your property, and if you are a tenant, what your rights and obligations are. Regardless of the type of rental that you enter, there are some items that are to be taken into account: The Community fees, mortgage, council tax (IBI), etc are always the owners to pay, regardless of any private agreements reached in your rental agreement, even if you agree that the tenant pays these. If they do not, then you will be pursued for the resulting debt, and you would have to countersue the tenant for breach of the private rental contract. The property belongs to the owner, what is rented out is the right to use the property and all the services allocated to that property in the Community. However, the rental contract can exclude the use of the swimming pool or the parking space, for example. But if they are not excluded, the owner cannot use the swimming pool or any other installation if the property is rented out, as the right of use has been passed on to the tenants. A tenant does not have any other
rights over the property than those specified in the contract and by Spanish Law. The tenant cannot attend community meetings as this right is exclusive to owners, cannot influence or decide on community matters and cannot become an elected position in the community (president, vicepresident, etc). The tenant would be able to attend the meetings by proxy, as could any other person sent by the owner to represent him. However, the owner is responsible for the tenant’s behavior, so if the tenant is causing aggravation of any sorts, it is the owner who will be contacted and the complaints will be filed. In the worst case scenario, if there is a troublesome tenant, and the police have to get involved, there could be legal actions that would intend for the owner to not be able to use the property in any way, including rentals, etc, for up to two years. This would be the worst case scenario for an owner, but it has happened many times. If you decide to rent the property out short term, as in holiday rentals, you already know that you need to duly register your property in the Junta de Andalucia, as a tourist rental. This property will need to comply with the current regulations and minimum standards (be suitable, ventilated, have light, air conditioning, etc), you will need to provide a 24h helpline and you have to register all tenants and holiday makers with the authorities, including a copy of their id. All income will be taxed, and it is very easy for the tax man to check that income you have received from the rentals if you use any of the online rental web sites, as these now have to provide a register of this income to the tax authorities if so requested. In the Communities that have a high percentage of holiday rentals, there is an increase of use of the community installations, which comes with an increase of necessary maintenance of these elements, to maintain the community standards and the value of the properties, as well as the rental income of those properties. If this extra maintenance is not carried out, the community may slowly decline
and hence will the value of the properties, and the investment needed to bring it back up to standard would be considerable. And we are not entering the opinions of those long term residents who have seen that the pool is suddenly over occupied or that they cannot use the paddle courts and have to pick up rubbish bags that the tenants leave in common areas because they don’t know where the bins are… The Spanish Legislator now allows communities to increase the ordinary community fees for these properties by 20%, so that the community is not jeopardized by these rentals and the extra costs. This is causing division amongst owners, as there are many who own properties as an investment, and to whom a 20% increase will burden considerably. But then there are owners who understand the situation and consider it an investment in their property that will help allow them to carry on receiving an income from these properties. This is not applicable to long term rentals or to properties that have been rented out before the community approves the increase. To approve and apply it, the community owners need to vote for it at a General Assembly. Necessarily 3/5th of owners present and represented would need to approve the vote for it to be passed. So if passed at a general meeting, any future holiday rentals will be subject to the increase. As the community can not establish the periods that you rent the property out for, the increase is applied to the fees throughout the whole year, not only to the months that it is rented out. So I’m afraid it’s time to get the calculator out and decide if it’s worth it to rent your property out to holiday makers or if it’s better to find a nice decent long term tenant to rent your property out. I was first introduced to Feng Shui about thirty years ago after marrying an attractive Chinese woman named Mary. Her father, Chan Ching, was a Feng Shui Master. A good friend named Donald who I had known since we were children had managed one of my furniture shops in London. He was able to make a very good living. I later closed my shop and my wife and family moved to the USA where I opened other businesses. Soon after, Donald had another job and had sold his maisonette and purchased a house in North West London. I phoned him a month later and he told me that
he was having a few problems as he lost his job and his wife and his son and daughter were also out of work. A few weeks after during a trip to London, my wife and I visited him and my father in law came with us for the ride. We hadn’t told him about my friends and family misfortune. As I pulled up my car outside his house my father in law, frantically spoke to his daughter in Chinese. She explained to me that my friend’s house was in a very bad position and that he would surely have problems. However, I could not tell my friend that as no doubt he was worried enough about his circumstances. When we left I asked my father in law who could speak English, if there was anything my friend could do. He told me that the main problem was that my friends home was situated at the end of a cul-de-sac, which was very bad Feng Shui energy. He had felt very uncomfortable during the invite for tea. He explained that to divert the bad energy, small mirrors have to be strategically placed facing out in front of his home to repel the bad energy.

Things hadn’t improved for Donald when I phoned him a few weeks returning to the USA. I told him that my father in law suggested that placing mirrors in front of the house would help to improve his situation. But my friend didn’t believe in such things. After speaking to him later I told him that it wouldn’t be any harm in doing it, even to please me. He eventually, and reluctantly, agreed and on my father-in-law’s instructions it was done. To my and Dons amazement, within a few weeks, he and his family had found work, not only that but his son became a millionaire a year later! Sounds too good to be true but it actually happened. My fatherin-law taught me the art of Feng Shui and I have since helped many people improve their lives and even sell their homes, Feng Shui certainly works. even for my wife and family. Mary and I came from poor families. We had forty years of a fantastic marriage and rarely argued and the small ones we had were over and forgotten within half an hour! We were able to travel the world and I was able to semi retire, when I was fifty five years of age.
What is Feng Shui? Feng Shui or "wind and water" is one of the Five Arts of Chinese Metaphysics and essentially the study of how the energy of our environment affects us. Correctly analysing and balancing these energies allows us to retain the positive benefits and remove negative effects. Unlike modern methods, Traditional Chinese Feng Shui is not based on religion or superstition. It is an ancient art and natural science that has been tested, developed and practiced for thousands of years in China. In fact, it was not limited to the Chinese and many ancient civilisations used a form of it. Modern lifestyles are extreme, often far removed from our natural environment, and as a result, we suffer more stress and anxiety than ever before. We also construct buildings that may be aesthetically pleasing but have in-built stress that we very easily absorb. You do not have to "believe" in Feng Shui for it to have an effect on you. Our environment affects us all and has an impact on our lives when at work or home, either positively or negatively. However, analysing a space and balancing it correctly allows us to alleviate the worry and stress and live a less extreme, happier life. Feng Shui is so important to some strong believers, that they use it for healing purposes (addition to
guide their businesses and create a peaceful atmosphere in their homes, in particular in the bedroom where a number of techniques involving mirrors, colours and arrangement are used to achieve enhanced comfort and more peaceful sleep. In 2005, even Disney acknowledged Feng Shui as an important part of Chinese culture by shifting the main gate to Hong Kong Disneyland by twelve degrees in their building plans, among many other actions suggested by Wing Chao, the master planner of architecture and design at Walt Disney Imagineering, in an effort to incorporate local culture into the theme park. The Bank of China Tower is an example of how its negative energy can affect nearby buildings and the people working inside those buildings. It also represents how Feng Shui changes after its completion and can change the feeling of its surroundings. In China and other Oriental countries, Feng Shui masters are consulted before a
building is being built, but the changes after its completion goes to show that proper Feng Shui features can remove misfortune and enhance wealth luck. It can also help in selling one’s property. At Singapore Polytechnic and other institutions, many working professionals from various disciplines (including engineers, architects, property agents and interior designers) take courses on Feng Shui and divination every year.

Focus on local business A series of features looking at the personalities that make up the commercial landscape of our local area. This month we hear from Sara Kernahan from ‘Duquesa Holidays’.
I have a long-established background in tourism, having worked for Thomson (now Tui) holidays for 15 years as a holiday service supervisor, then an excursion coach guide, before going on to be responsible for organising and co-ordinating all the Tui tours for customers in Northern Spain. My heart has always been in Andalucía, ever since spending winter seasons here with Tui working along the coast in the resorts of Benalmadena, Torremolinos and Fuengirola. I also have British and Spanish family living here in Manilva. My partner and I moved here to Manilva in 2017, and more recently I acquired the already established apartment rental company ‘Duquesa Holidays’ based in Monte Duquesa. It has been a really busy and enjoyable summer and I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some really great people - and look forward to accommodating many more in the future! After doing some local research I found that due to commitments and busy lifestyles many of us just don’t have the opportunity to get out and explore some of the fantastic places right here on our doorstep! I really enjoy guiding the tours and providing informative and
fun commentary, so my next step is to launch ‘Duquesa Tours’. My goal is to provide good value trips for single travellers, couples and families in addition to tailor-made days out for organisations and groups. I know there are some great excursions already running to traditional places such as Ronda, Granada and Seville but I feel there is also a huge demand for coach trips to adhoc events -such as carnivals, festivals and concerts - and also to some really interesting places such as Zahara de los Atunes, Benahavis, Castellar de la Frontera and the lakes and attractions in Ardales. Vecinos y Amigos Club The club has held two very successful events recently. Members were served a very tasty meal and enjoyed the music of Gary Fearon on Halloween Night. On 16th November a Christmas Market was held in the club premises. A varied selection of stalls attracted many visitors. Cake, mince pies and refreshments were served throughout the busy morning.
A pre Christmas party is the next event for members and a trip to Fuengirola & Malaga to see the Christmas Lights is planned for December. A wide variety of activities and events take place at the club premises so come along and make new friends. These can also be viewed on our new website www. vecinosyamigos.es

The Knit and Natter group was formed with the aim of making items such as scarves, hats, blankets etc that can be sold from St. Georges charity shop, Sabinillas to boost funds or could be donated directly to those in need who would be identified via the appropriate organisations. Anyone with any knitting , sewing or crochet skills we need your expertise to help those of us who know nothing about these things! So whether you are a lady or a gent, can knit or not, everyone and anyone can come along and join in ,the more the merrier!
Meetings are held at the Amigos y Vecinos clubhouse, (behind the Sabinillas Bookshop) every Tuesday from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. There is coffee and cake available to buy. Sobre la Sociedad Benéfica de St George Duquesa La caridad de St George fue fundada a principios de 2013, inicialmente como organización de recaudación de fondos para proporcionar equipos y servicios dentro de la comunidad local para los más necesitados. Como asociación registrada, la Caridad de St George también proporciona un marco legal bajo el cual individuos y grupos pueden recaudar fondos (sujeto a aprobación y debida diligencia). About the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George The St George Charity was founded at the beginning of 2013 initially as a fundraising organisation to provide funding, equipment and services to worthy causes within the local community. As a registered association the St George Charity also provides a legal framework for individuals or groups to raise money under its umbrella (subject to approval and due diligence). The St George Charity raises money through a number of channels including the charity’s two shops in Sabinillas, which opened at the beginning of 2014 and 2016, and the shop in La Cancelada, Estepona which opened in 2017; collection tins in numerous local bars and restaurants; markets; online second hand shop; as well as money raised at a number of events such as the Sabi Street Party, quiz nights, etc. The St George Charity also receives donations from individual or group benefactors for which it is always grateful. The St George Charity makes donations to a number of other charities: Age Concern, Manilva and Estepona, Emaus social kitchen in Estepona, Luisana – Manilva Handicapped Association, AFIMA – Fibromyalgia Charity in Manilva, Danii Children’s Cancer Charity, Open Hands Trust in Gibraltar, Hogar Betania in La Linea, Hogar Marillac in La Linea. The charity has also assisted many individuals with food parcels, prescription glasses, wheelchairs, medical procedures and also helped fund a team of local
firefighters on a mission to Lesbos to provide lifesaving services for refugees in the Aegean. The charity is also currently funding the studies of a local Spanish single mother towards her nursing qualifications. Now in its seventh year the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George’s Christmas Gift Appeal has just been launched. Each year between 400 and 500 children identified by Social Services in Manilva and Casares, and by the Emaus Social Kitchen in Estepona, receive a tote bag full of gifts with a value of at least 10 euros. The charity receives a list of children by age and gender (no names) and from the public’s generous donations the Saint George Charity sources gift items such as books, arts and crafts material, games, etc., appropriate to the age and gender of the children on the list. By purchasing from wholesalers, who also give the charity a discount, it is possible to provide a meaningful gift to all the children. In addition the gift bags are distributed to the children’s parents in time for Three Kings as the charity believes that the only thing worse than a child not receiving a gift during the festive season, is a parent not being able to to give one. Whilst donations of gifts are always welcome, the charity prefers cash donations so that the children can receive gifts of similar quality and substance. Donations can be made at any of the Saint George Charity shops in Sabinillas and La Cancelada, Estepona.
The St George Charity also supports the local community through donations of equipment to sporting infrastructure providing subsidies for disadvantaged youngsters to attend the local karate school, football strips for almost 200 youngsters at the CF

The Saint George Charity launches its 2019 Christmas Gift Appeal
With the festive season fast approaching it is important that we turn our thoughts to those less fortunate than ourselves. This is exactly what the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George has done since it was launched in 2013. Every year for the past 6 years the charity has raised funds to provide Christmas gift bags for underprivileged children from Manilva, Casares, and those attending the Social Kitchen run by Emaus in Estepona. The children are identified by Social Services who provide a list of children by age and gender and the Charity purchases a selection of gifts, totalling some 10 to 15 euros per child, with the emphasis on gifts that will foster creativity, fun and education, and which are age and gender appropriate. The gift bags are then delivered to Social Services and the Social Kitchen
where the parents can collect them and give them to their children on Three Kings. This is very important as the charity feels that the only thing sadder than a child receiving no gifts at Christmas time is a parent being unable to give a gift! The number of children varies from 350 to 500 so it is a mammoth task to raise funds, purchase the gifts, and put together the gift bags, but the Saint George Charity’s volunteers have it down to a well-honed operation. En Sabinillas, una de las tiendas vende ropa, zapatos, sombreros y accesorios de segunda mano, mientras que la otra vende una amplia gama de muebles usados, objetos decorativos, artículos para el hogar, libros, CDs, DVDs, etc. En la tienda de Cancelada se pueden encontrar todos los mismos tipos de artículos que en las dos anteriores además de muebles más grandes como sofás y camas. Gracias a las generosas donaciones recibidas, hay nuevos artículos en todas las tiendas a diario. ¡Pásate por las tiendas regularmente para no perderte ninguna ganga! BuddyUp (Manilva) Community Support Group In response to a tragic situation earlier in the year a number of local residents came together to form the BuddyUp (Manilva) Community Support Group, a ‘befriending’ group to provide support, comfort and a point of contact for people facing a variety of challenges. The BuddyUp group is coordinated by Marguerite Wilkins, and already has a number of members signed up. Working closely with other local charities and organisations, including the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George, Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva, Citizens’ Advice, Cudeca, Social Services, etc., the group aims to provide support and advice for the elderly, disabled, those who have recently lost a partner, single parents, divorcees, the socially excluded, people that are new to the area, in fact anyone who might need someone to talk to or just pointing in the right direction.
BuddyUp volunteers work in pairs and have access to a wide range of resources to call upon depending on the needs of those they are assisting. In Sabinillas one of the shops sells quality second hand clothing, shoes, hats and accessories; whilst the other sells a wide range of secondhand furniture, decorative items, household goods, books, cds,

Food Bank The Saint George Charity runs a food bank initiative to help local people who are finding it difficult to make ends meet, and invites people to donate non-perishable goods, such as long life milk, pasta, rice, tinned meat and fish, tinned vegetables, etc., along with toiletries, personal hygiene and cleaning items.
The charity will supplement these items with fresh produce, and will distribute on a weekly basis to a number of individuals and families that have been identified as being in urgent need of this service. Items can be donated at the St George Charity Shop in Calle Aurora Albornoz, Sabinillas, from 10 am to 1.30 pm Monday to Saturday.

MAGUILLA 21,30 horas de la tarde de un 7 de agosto de 1986, Maguilla (Badajoz). El pueblo está en plenas fiestas patronales y la mayoría de sus habitantes, después de levantarse de la siesta y ducharse, se dispone a cenar antes de salir para el recinto ferial ubicado en la plaza situada delante de la iglesia. Casi nadie ve lo que está por suceder. Sólo unos cuanto feriantes que preparan sus casetas de tiro al blanco y otras actividades, mientras el alumbrado público, como si fuera magia, se enciende escalonadamente en un abrir y cerrar de ojos. Cómo si hubiera sido una señal, el sonido de millones de abejas comenzó a atronar la calle principal del pueblo. Todos los presentes en ese momento en la calle principal y adyacente, esperan ver un enorme enjambre de abejas. Pero lo que ven, les llena de sorpresa y miedo a la vez, en unos y de curiosidad en otros. Es una aeronave de proporciones enormes sobre volando el pueblo a lo largo de su calle principal de este a oeste, la longitud del objeto volador, supera los 800 metros y su anchura la calculan en más de treinta. La panza de aquella “cosa”, muestra varios orificios de diferentes tamaños por los que salen unos focos de luz blanquecina. Los que tienen la suerte de ver semejante monstruo volante, comprueban con asombro, cómo la cabeza o cabina de la aeronave está en las afueras del pueblo mientras que su parte trasera aún no ha llegado debido a su tamaño. La
Rogelio Martínez extraña aeronave, vuela tan bajo, que los sorprendidos testigos están convencidos del inminente derrumbe del campanario de la iglesia; sin embargo, no sucede, la aeronave sobrevuela a una altura mayor de la que aparentemente parece volar, así que, tanto el campanario como la veleta se salvan del desastre. Los testigos de semejante avistamiento, no salen de su asombro, nunca, ni en sus mejores fantasías, habrían imaginado espectáculo semejante. Todos sin excepción, son consciente de lo importante que puede ser aquel momento, sin embargo, a ninguno se le ocurre salir corriendo a por una cámara fotográfica, pero hay una explicación, algo atenaza sus músculos y son incapaces de moverse, solo tienen dominio sobre sus ojos; de esa forma, quietos como estatuas, ven como lentamente el objeto se aleja hasta desaparecer en el
horizonte. Cuando la aeronave hubo desaparecido, todos sin excepción recuperaron su dominio del movimiento y cada uno de los presente en el avistamiento, retoma la conversación interrumpida minutos antes, pues, varios fueron los minutos que transcurrieron, desde la irrupción de la aeronave por el extremos del pueblo y la desaparición por el lado opuesto. Extrañamente, nadie tiene ganas de hablar de un tema tan extraordinario y aterrador. AGUACERO EN JULIO La lluvia cae, no pide permiso a la tierra, ella es dueña hoy del cielo. No le interesa si al verano, presumido, le preocupa que se derrame un aguacero. Algunos veraneantes no podrán ir a la playa... “Sí –explica Pepe, el campesino–. Sí que irán. Porque estos son nublados de verano, y, después, hará más calor. ¡Ya veréis a la tarde!”. Sale el hijo de un veraneante a la calle y canta: “¡Que llueva, que llueva....!” “No, no, no –le dice la madre–, que no llueva, que no llueva, porque oh, uff, oh, no podremos ir a la playa, a bañarnos”. Pero a la lluvia, parece no importarle nada ni nadie, cae amable, ligera, y cala el corazón de la tierra, y el pueblo siente en sus calles el fresco chaparrón de estas aguas que en julio han venido a bendecir los tejados de las casas. Y aunque muchos se quejan, la lluvia no comprende esa lamentación. La lluvia, tiene lágrimas infantiles acumuladas en el cielo, por eso hoy humedece al pueblo, y se da cuenta de que ha desorientado el proyecto de muchos, así deberían cambiar sus actividades: tal vez verán televisión o leerán sentados cómodamente en casa, mientras un ventilador despeja el calor y la humedad; muchos se distraerán jugando al parchís; otros mirarán desde sus ventanas cómo llueve suavemente... Y dice uno: “La naturaleza es sabia, si llueve, no es a gusto de todos...”. Y dice otro: “¿Es que sin agua se puede vivir?”. Y otro: “ Pues que llueva en invierno…”. Alguien dice: “Aunque no estamos a finales de julio, algo de daño le hace esta lluvia a la vid. ¿O no? ¡Qué sé yo!... ¡Es buena para la atmósfera. Existen tantas enfermedades...!”. La suave lluvia sigue cayendo. Hay nubarrones que despiertan. Es casi mediodía, y como si desearan seguir disponiendo el día en una meteorología indiscreta, forman una oscura mansión en el cielo para después derramarse ya más intensa, pero ya no son acopios de lágrimas de niños, se abren como cortijos de nubes que desprenden ríos desde la altura.

¿Cómo lograr que el perro coma fruta?
Peras, manzanas, plátanos, arándanos... Estos alimentos no solo pueden formar parte de la dieta humana. "Frutas como la manzana y la pera aportan grandes beneficios al perro", señala el veterinario y dietista canino, Carlos Alberto Gutiérrez, autor del blog Nutricionista de perros. Los beneficios que tienen algunas frutas para el can han sido también estudiados por Rick Woodford, autor del libro 'Alimenta mejor a tu mejor amigo' ('Feed Your Best Friend Better', Andrews McMeel, 2012). "Las comidas y piensos procesados para perros contienen el balance apropiado de proteínas, grasas, vitaminas y minerales que el animal necesita", explica Woodford, que también escribe el blog The Dog Food Dude. Sin embargo, añade Woodford, estos alimentos envasados para perros también contienen algunas carencias:
"carecen de antioxidantes y otras vitaminas y sustancias que sí contienen los alimentos naturales como la fruta". Estas sustancias presentes en la fruta, añade, son importantes para asegurar la salud del can a largo plazo. "Previenen enfermedades como el cáncer o las dolencias de corazón en el perro", afirma. Algunas frutas, además, son ricas en fibra, apunta Gutiérrez por su parte. "Aunque los canes no necesitan tomar mucha, ingerir pequeñas cantidades de fibra beneficia su sistema digestivo", dice. Antes de introducir cualquier fruta en la alimentación de un perro hay que consultar con el veterinario o nutricionista canino. No todas las frutas son buenas para el can: las hay algo peligrosas e, incluso, tóxicas para perros, como las uvas y las pasas, siempre que el animal las ingiera en grandes cantidades.
¿Qué frutas sí son beneficiosas? Woodford, que empezó a cocinar en casa para sus mascotas después de que a uno de ellos, Jackson, le diagnosticaran cáncer, recomienda el siguiente listado de "frutas saludables para canes": 1.Arándanos (son antioxidantes) 2. ¿Cómo ofrezco frutas al perro? La cantidad de fruta que el perro ingiera debe estar supervisada por el especialista. Esto es importante ya que no todos la aceptan. Algunos, incluso, pueden padecer alergias. Y la fruta no debe sustituir a su dieta habitual: se trata, en todo caso, de un complemento y en pequeñas cantidades. ¿Otras precauciones? "Todas deben estar libres de pipas y semillas antes de ofrecérselas al can", remacha el autor de 'Alimentar mejor a tu mejor amigo'. Lo importante es lograr una dieta equilibrada para el perro, señala, por su parte, el veterinario Fausto Andrés. "Si se alimenta con la cantidad de proteínas suficientes, se le puede ofrecer frutas sin problemas", asegura.
Es mejor cortar la fruta en trozos, para que el perro muerda su carne Introducir las frutas en la dieta del can desde que es un cachorro es una de las claves para que el animal acepte este alimento. "Cuando esto ocurre, es habitual que el perro las disfrute y se las coma solas, sin necesidad de tener que mezclarlas con otras viandas", apunta Gutiérrez. Lo idóneo, coincide Woodford, es "comenzar cuando son pequeños, con distintas frutas dentro de sus cuencos de comida". Que un perro adulto no habituado acepte las frutas como parte de su dieta es algo más complicado. Para ello, Gutiérrez propone mezclarlas con otros alimentos, como sardinas enlatadas o pollo, y hacer un puré con los frutos. Woodford aporta otro consejo: cortar la fruta en trozos. "Muchas frutas están envueltas en una piel dura, que puede suponer una resistencia para el can. Cortarlas en pedazos ayuda a que muerda la carne de la fruta y que no sea la piel lo primero que encuentre". La pauta, de nuevo, es no caer en el exceso. "La fruta no debe sustituir a la alimentación habitual, sino ser ofrecida como premios o regalos", concluye Andrés.
Frutas para perros: consejos rápidos Un resumen rápido, para no perderse. Hay frutas beneficiosas para el perro. Entre ellas, la manzana, los arándanos y el plátano. Otras, como las uvas o las pasas pueden ser tóxicas, si el can las ingiere en grandes cantidades: dañan sus riñones. Algunos veterinarios, además, recomiendan retirar las semillas de las frutas (manzanas, peras albaricoque, etc.) que se ofrecen al perro: son perjudiciales e inflaman su aparato digestivo, en especial si son grandes.
¿Otro consejo? Antes de introducir frutas en la dieta canina hay que consultar con el veterinario o nutricionista: no todos los perros aceptan el mismo tipo de dieta. Cualquier cambio en su alimentación debe ser paulatino y supervisado por un profesional: no se pueden descartar posibles alergias. Como es obvio, las frutas no pueden sustituir la dieta habitual del can: se trata de un suplemento que debe ofrecerse en pequeñas cantidades. Mezclar peras o manzanas con alimentos naturales y sabrosos, como el pollo, ayuda a que el animal acepte estos alimentos.

"Fruits like apples and pears can provide great benefits to the dog," says veterinarian and canine dietician, Carlos Alberto Gutiérrez, author of the blog Dog Nutritionist. The benefits of some fruits for canines have also been studied by Rick Woodford, author of the book 'Feed Your Best Friend' (Andrews McMeel, 2012). "Processed dog food and biscuit contains the proper balance of protein, fat, vitamins and minerals the animal needs," explains Woodford, who also writes The Dog Food Dude blog. However, adds Woodford, these packaged dog foods also contain some shortcomings: "they lack antioxidants and other vitamins and substances that are contained in natural foods like fruit." These substances, present in the fruit, he adds, are important to ensure the health of the dog in the long term. "They prevent diseases like cancer or heart ailments in the dog," he says. Some fruits, moreover, are rich in fibre, notes Gutiérrez. "Although dogs do not need to drink too much, small amounts of fibre will benefit their digestive system," he adds. Home to some of the finest golf courses in Europe and stunning weather to match, the Costa del Sol held its head high amongst the world leading golfing destinations, hosting some of the season’s top international events. Golf tourism is a major income for the area, creating jobs for hundreds of golf course employees from General Managers, greenkeepers and caddies alike. The influx of golf tourists to our area, also helps the turnover in local restaurants, bars and other businesses, especially after the peak summer season is over. Hosting major golfing tournaments in our region, that are televised worldwide, advertises the Costa del Sol as a world leading golfing destination. Our little community has a rich heritage in golfing history. Because of the Ryder cup being hosted at Valderrama GC in 1997, tourists still to this day come to play the iconic course from all over the world. Golfers come to play our historical courses to relive the moments they witnessed on television and to walk the same fairways as their golfing heroes did before them. The importance of hosting these major televised events
is paramount to keeping the Costa del Sol as one of the best golfing destinations in the world, and this year, our region did us proud. One of the biggest achievements this summer, was the addition of another event on the ladies European tour schedule. The La Reserva Sotogrande Invitational, hosted by the world famous golfer Anikka Sorenstam, gave the start of summer a French love affair. Celine Herbin from Avranches France was crowned the victor. Yours truly caddied for the world famous Scottish player Carly Booth, but only managed 13th place. The second Ladies event to take place in our region, is The Andalucian Costa Del Sol Open de Espana, held at Aloha Golf Club in Marbella from 28th November to 1st December. Admission for spectators is free.
Fruits for Dogs: Quick Tips
A brief summary, there are fruits which are beneficial to our dogs. Among them, are, apples, blueberries and bananas. Others, such as grapes or raisins, can be toxic if they are ingested in large quantities: they may damage their kidneys. Some veterinarians also recommend removing the seeds from the fruits (apples, apricot pears, etc.) that are offered to the dog: they are harmful and may inflame the digestive system, especially if they are large. Another tip, before introducing fruits into the cogs diet you should consult with a veterinarian or nutritionist: not all dogs accept the same type of diet. Any change in their diet should be gradual and supervised by a professional; also you cannot rule out possible food allergies. Obviously, fruits cannot replace the dog’s usual diet, it is a supplement that must be offered in small quantities. Mixing pears or apples with natural and tasty foods, such as chicken, helps the animal to accept these foods.

alla Romano Golf in Estepona also played its part in hosting the Andalucian Costa Del Sol Matchplay 9. An event won by the Norwegian golfer Eirik Tage Johansen who has been based on the Costa del Sol for the last few years for winter training. Eirik has been a regular golfer on our local Gecko Tour for many years and the time spent on our coast, obviously gave him a home feel advantage. The week after the Matchplay 9 event, the world’s attention turned to Valderrama GC, the Augusta of Europe. Our local course of Valderrama is rated as the most iconic course in mainland Europe, steeped
in history and memories. The ever perfect venue hosted the European Tours Estrella Damm Andalucian Valderrama Masters at a new date on the calendar. The event was moved to the end of June with an increased prize fund of € 3 million. The goal for next year is an increased prize fund adding the event to the Rolex series. I was exceptionally proud that my friend and fellow countryman Christiaan Bezuidenhout beat out the chasing Spanish armada that included Sergio Garcia, Jon Rahm, Alvaro Quiros, Eduardo De La Riva and Adri Arnaus, to lift the trophy this year and pocket a cool €500,000.

ow that the winter is creeping onto us, it doesn’t mean the end of the golfing season, but ushers in our winter training time. While most of Europe is covered in snow, young professionals and leading amateurs will flock to our shores to train, practice and compete on our local Gecko Tour. The Gecko Tour will enter its 9th season as a winter training and developmental tour. Events start from the beginning of December at
Villa Padierna GC where a plethora of future golfing stars will compete for prestigious World Amateur ranking points. A new venue added to the Gecko Tour Schedule is Estepona Golf on the 9th and 10th of January, 2020. A great away win for the sub 18's on Sunday against an unknown entity as the team has never played CR UtreraCoria Samurais before in tricky conditions. Ale started of the scoring with a brilliant individual run and finished under the posts for an easy conversion which was completed by German. It was then the home team's turn to attack and for the Estrecho defence to hold strong, which it did with tackle after tackle until a trademark turnover from German stealing the ball from an unprotected ruck inside his own 5 metre line and stand in scrum half, Billy, kicking clear with a stunning box kick. The next try came from one of the newest signings to the team. Playing in only his second game, Fernando was in receipt of the final pass in a string of play which started within Estrecho’s own half.
