Editorial Bienvenidos a número de octubre de The Resident. Ha sido un mes de locos mientras dejamos el verano atrás y volvemos a la rutina. Parece que el estancamiento de las elecciones está llegando a una solución, con la dimisión del líder del PSOE Pedro Sánchez. El PSOE tiene vía libre para abstenerse en el próximo intento de investidura del PP para formar un gobierno en minoría, evitando así la probabilidad de tener que ir a votar ¡el día de Navidad! Aunque éste parece ser el único camino a seguir, hay quejas de algunos sectores del PP, que no parecen reconocer un caballo regalado, aunque les muerda. Solo nos queda esperar y ver. La Duquesa Charitable Society of St George, de la cual The Resident es una parte importante, ha estado muy ocupada este mes. Tras el enorme éxito del evento Sabistock (ver página 36), estamos preparando nuestro mercadillo navideño y pasarela de moda para el mes que viene, tras lo cual lanzaremos la Recogida de regalos navideños de este año. La organización benéfica Saint George siempre necesita voluntarios para ayudar en nuestras tiendas en Sabinillas, o para ayudar al periódico The Resident. Welcome to the October issue of The Resident. It has been a busy month as we put the summer behind us and knuckle down to business. First off it looks like the election stalemate might finally be nearing a resolution, with the resignation of PSOE leader Pedro Sanchez, the way is clearer for the PSOE to abstain at the next attempt by PP to form a minority government, thus avoiding a potential Christmas Day General Election! Whilst this would appear to be the only way forward there a grumblings from some sections of the PP who wouldn’t recognise a gift horse if it bit them! We can but wait and see. It has been a busy month for the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George, of which The Resident is an important part. Following on from the hugely successful Sabistock event (see page 36) we are preparing for our Christmas Craft Fair and Fashion Show next month, after which we will be launching this year’s Christmas Gift Appeal. The Saint George Charity is always looking for volunteers to assist in our two shops in Sabinillas, or to help out on The Resident newspaper. IV Gibunco Gibraltar Literary Festival The Gibunco Gibraltar Literary Festival has become an important part of Gibraltar’s cultural calendar which has proved such a success in opening up the Rock as a major cultural venue to the rest of Europe. Gibunco Gibraltar International Literary Festival sets up promotional outlet for local authors In order to enable a greater number of local authors to be a part of the Gibunco Gibraltar International Literary Festival, the organisers are this year introducing an innovative promotional outlet to the Festival programme. Local authors who are not already participating in this Festival will be able to promote, sell and sign

their books at a facility being set up by the festival organisers in the vicinity of the festival headquarters at the Garrison Library. A marquee will be set up in the Piazzella at Governor’s Parade for the duration of the festival, from Thursday 20th to Sunday 23rd of October, 10am-5pm each day.

Gibraltar International Magic Festival Gibraltar's Ministry of Culture has announced the first Gibraltar International Magic Festival, which will take place from 5th-11th December. The Festival is produced by GibMedia and comprises stage shows, close-up Magic, conferences and workshops. Magic and Illusion Shows are breaking box office records in Broadway and the West End. The Festival will bring together award-winning illusionists from Japan, Canada, Netherlands, the USA, UK and Gibraltar at the John Mackintosh Hall. La carrera acuática de velocidad ThunderCat vuelve a La Roca La carrera acuática de alta velocidad ThunderCat vuelve a Gibraltar este mes, con las rondas 11 y 12 del Campeonato Microlink ThunderCat Racing que se celebrarán en Catalan Bay, Gibraltar. Las regatas Thundercat comenzaron en Sudáfrica en los años 80, y son un deporte con mucha adrenalina y acción, con saltos de olas explosivos y una

carrera muy competitiva en un bote inflable con un casco de cuatro metros. La tripulación consta de un piloto que dirige el bote y un copiloto que utiliza su peso para estabilizarlo y obtener la máxima velocidad. La carrera comienza a las 12 del medio día cada día, y se podrá disfrutar desde numerosos puntos en y alrededor de Catalan Bay.

ThunderCat powerboat racing returns to The Rock ThunderCat powerboat racing returns to Gibraltar this month with rounds 11 and 12 of the 2016 Microlink ThunderCat Racing Championships being staged off of The Rock’s Catalan Bay. Thundercat racing began in South Africa back in the eighties and is a high adrenalin, high action sport with explosive wave-jumping and tight competitive surf racing in a

4 metre tunnel hulled inflatable boat. The crew consists of a driver steering the boat and a co-driver who uses their weight to stablilise the craft and obtain maximum speed. Racing begins at 12 noon each day and there are plenty of good vantage points in and around Catalan Bay for spectators.

Los presupuestos participativos de Casares inician la toma de contacto con los vecinos Casares contará con mayores cotas de democracia en búsqueda de una ciudadanía más activa y comprometida con su pueblo. Es uno de los objetivos de los Presupuestos Participativos que se han puesto ya en marcha en la fase inicial. En la primera jornada informativa, se ha puesto al día a los vecinos sobre el proceso que se inicia ya para que en 2017 puedan ponerse en práctica sus propuestas. El Ayuntamiento ha liberado una partida de 350.000 euros para que sean los ciudadanos quienes decidan a qué destinarlos. El alcalde de Casares, Pepe Carrasco abría esta jornada haciendo referencia a las experiencias previas que se han llevado a cabo y que continúan como las consultas ciudadanas o la creación de los consejos locales. Ahora empiezan los primeros presupuestos participativos de Casares, según ha dicho Rocío Ruiz, “un hito y una apuesta que debería permanecer en el tiempo para mejorar las relaciones entre la

administración y los ciudadanos, dañada en la actualidad por la crisis de desconfianza que existe en la gente respecto a los políticos; y sobre todo para construir una comunidad más activa, comprometida y democrática”. Según informaba Ana Puebla, de Coglobal, el proceso contempla una serie de asambleas vecinales que se llevarán a cabo por

núcleos. En ellas se recogerán las propuestas ciudadanas, y tras estudiar su viabilidad técnica serán sometidas a votación. En la primera jornada informativa, los asistentes pudieron conocer la experiencia de la Oficina del Presupuesto Participativo de Málaga, gracias a la intervención de Toni Morillas, experta y asesora de democracia participativa.

El Ayuntamiento subvenciona la Unión Deportiva Casares La Unión Deportiva Casares ha recibido una subvención de 6.000 euros del Ayuntamiento de Casares, una cuantía que permitirá al club hacer frente a los gastos habituales de comienzo de temporada que son los más costosos, debido a las cuotas de inscripción de equipos y jugadores. El alcalde y el concejal de Deportes, Pepe Carrasco y Nicolás Morales se han reunido esta mañana en el Ayuntamiento con el presidente del Club,

Adrian Pérez, a quién han hecho entrega de la ayuda económica. Además está previsto que desde el Consistorio se realice una nueva subvención el próximo año para que la U.D. Casares pueda finalizar esta temporada e iniciar la siguiente. Con esta financiación el Ayuntamiento se hace cargo de la mayor parte de los gastos del club deportivo local. No obstante, la Unión Deportiva completa su presupuesto con publicidad de empresas privadas,

entradas y carnés de socios, venta de lotería de Navidad y barras en eventos públicos. El club local cuenta esta temporada con tres equipos: el Femenino, de Futbol-7, que debutó la pasada semana y jugará mañana sábado contra el Candor F.C. ; El equipo de Futbol-11 Sénior, que comienza la liga el primer fin de semana de octubre; , y otro de FútbolSala de categoría Cadete que jugará su primer partido el fin de semana del 8 y 9 de octubre.

Casares provides funding for the UD Casares Football Club Union Deportiva Casares has received a grant of 6,000 euros the Casares Town Hall, an amount that will allow the club to handle the usual costs at the start of the season which are the most expensive, due to registration fees of teams and players. The Mayor and the Councillor for Sports, Pepe Carrasco and Nicolas Morales, met with the club

president, Adrian Perez, to deliver the grant. In addition the Council have agreed a further grant in the new year so that the club can complete this season and start the next. With this funding the club can deal with most of its expenses, however it tops it up with advertising by private companies, tickets and membership cards, selling

Christmas lottery and from running bars at public events. This season the club has three teams: Women, Football-7, which debuted last week and will play on Saturday against Candor F.C. ; and the senior team, which begins the league the first weekend of October; And another indoor football Cadete category will play their first game at the weekend on 8 and 9 October.

Casares allocates 350,000 euros to participatory budgets Budgeting has already commenced in many municipalities in the province. This coming year some of these locations will test a new, more participatory approach with residents to decide on what aspects to invest these funds. Marbella recently announced that it had entered a second phase, and the budget was close to being ratified. As for Casares, the town hall began to explain to residents that this year they can choose how to invest 350,000 euros of expenditure. Explanatory sessions were held on September 30 for people living in the area, in which they laid out the process. Furthermore, on 26 and 27 September there were training sessions for staff at the town hall. The budget proposals will be

aiming to prioritize projects and investments in the three towns of the municipality, with special emphasis on job creation. Despite it being the first year that this initiative will be implemented, in both 2014 and in 2015 similar steps were taken to allow residents to have a say, through voting and meetings. The town hall will carry out this process with the support of a team of specialized technicians from the Local-Global Consortium Association, who have already worked in the municipality boosting the Agora infantil school participation programs. In order to do this, the rules and regulations under which this initiative will be developed must be approved at the plenary meeting.

La preinscripción se puede realizar en la Tenencia de Alcaldía donde están a disposición de los vecinos las hojas de inscripción. Se trata de una nueva actividad extraescolar que organiza la Tenencia de Alcaldía tras ser solicitada por algunas familias. El curso será ofrecido por la misma empresa que lo hace en el Colegio Blas Infante, Stemxion, y por tanto, tendrá las mismas condiciones: se ofrecerá una clase a la semana, cuyo horario no está todavía cerrado, y el precio es de 35 euros mensuales. Para que el taller se pueda ofrecer deberá inscribirse un mínimo

Un acrílico de 1,5 x 1 metro en el que el pintor ofrece una vista del casco histórico desde un punto de vista alto, por lo que aparecen detalles del recinto del Castillo, y el paisaje. El alcalde ha resaltado la importancia de que el patrimonio

municipal cuente con una obra de Kenneth Godfrey, artista de gran nivel afincado en Casares desde hace años . La obra ha sido instalada en la Sala de Junta del Consistorio, por lo que será reproducida en las fotos de las muchas reuniones que se celebran en la misma, y admiradas por todas las perso-

nas que visiten el Ayuntamiento de Casares. El artista ha señalado la combinación de los elementos geométricos que predominan en la arquitectura de Casares con los orgánicos de la naturaleza que se incluyen en el paisaje.

The Mayor highlighted how

important it was that the municipal heritage included a work by local artist Kenneth Godfrey in its collection, his having lived in Casares for many years. The work has been given pride of place in the council chamber where it will feature in photos of

council meetings, and where it can be admired by visitors to Casares. The artist pointed out the combination of geometric shapes that predominate the architecture of Casares that contrast with the organic nature of the surrounding landscape.

Nuevo impulso al edificio de usos múltiples de Casares Costa El Ayuntamiento de Casares sigue trabajando en la realización del proyecto que contempla un Edificio de Usos Múltiples en Casares Costa. Es una de las propuestas que IU incluye en su programa electoral para el núcleo costero del municipio para esta legislatura. Un edificio, que ubicado en Arroyo Parrilla, albergará diferentes salas para el desarrollo de talleres y actividades,

así como una ludoteca infantil. El equipo técnico de la Diputación que está trabajando en la elaboración del proyecto ha presentado hoy el primer boceto al alcalde de Casares Pepe Carrasco, y a la concejala de Costa Antonia Pineda. Un edificio que contará con dos plantas de 250 metros cuadrados cada una, la baja destinada a un servicio de ludoteca, y la alta presentará

Reportajes, visitas guiadas y charlas informativas sobre el Yacimiento de Alcorrín El Yacimiento de Alcorrín sigue acaparando el interés de los medios de comunicación y eso se traduce en excursiones, charlas y reportajes. Diego José Jiménez, como alcalde, mantiene la ilusión y el deseo de que este importantísimo yacimiento a nivel mundial, pueda llegar a ser un reclamo turístico y que Manilva vaya ampliando las posibilidades para los visitantes. Según comentaba la Directora del Instituto Alemán de Arqueología en Madrid, Dirce Marzolli, es fundamental el apoyo que se está teniendo del Ayuntamiento de Manilva y esto se traduce en los avances de los trabajos en la zona de Alcorrín. El yacimiento, localizado en el año 1989 en el Cerro de los Castillejos, está considerado por los expertos como uno de los diez más importantes de la época en Andalucía. Los restos corresponden a una fortaleza de siglo octavo. El recinto arqueológico, de la cultura tartessica, presenta según los expertos singularidades como

su extensión (una dimensión de 22 hectáreas, equiparable a los edificios más grandes de la época), la novedad de sus construcciones para la defensa del territorio y la conservación del trazado del recinto prácticamente completo. Charlas informativas en el instituto, celebrada en el día de ayer y a la que acudieron decenas de jóvenes en pleno desarrollo académico, son una base fundamental para que las nuevas generaciones sepan el valor de este yacimiento y despierte en ellos el interés que merece. En la tarde de hoy, a partir de las 19.00h, la citada directora también dará una charla en el salón de plenos para todas aquellas personas que lo deseen, en un acto organizado por las delegaciones de Turismo y Cultura dirigidas por Francisco Becerra y Alba Jiménez respectivamente. Mañana sábado habrá una excursión al yacimiento de Alcorrín en lo que será una visita guiada. En esta ocasión, una expedición de personas

con un monumento central que representa un corazón en forma de puzzle, que a su vez simboliza la vida. El objetivo de esta remodelación se ha centrado en realizar las obras necesarias para adecuar esta plaza para uso y disfrute de la ciudadanía, así como una mejora visual en una zona muy transitada del núcleo de San Luis de Sabinillas.

In attendance was the Councillor for Infrastructure and Works, Antonio Barragan, accompanied by a number of councillors, Juan Oliva, a local resident who campaigns to raise awareness organ donation,

and the local priest, José Antonio Melgar. At the centre of the ‘Donor Square’ is a monument of a heart in the form of a puzzle, symbolizing life. The refurbishment will allow the square to be enjoyed by local residents and visitors and improve the village’s image in this busy area.

La obra en la A-377, Manilva-Gaucín, dará comienzo en noviembre El Secretario de Política Institucional y portavoz socialista en la Diputación Provincial de Málaga, Francisco Conejo Rueda, ha visitado la localidad para realizar una rueda de prensa informativa sobre la actualidad de la carretera Manilva-Gaucín. A-377 Manilva-Gaucin roadworks to begin in November Francisco Conejo Rueda, a representative from the Malaga Provincial Government, visited Manilva recently to discuss the imminent refurbishment of the A-377 Manilva to Gaucin highway. In a meeting with Mayor of Manilva, Diego José Jiménez, he outlined the works which will restore this key element of the local road

network, affecting a catchment of some 80,000 residents in almost twenty towns and villages. The 30 kilometres of road have fallen into serious disrepair in recent years and has been the subject of a campaign in recent years by local authorities in many of the towns affected who have pleaded with the Junta de Andalucia’s Regional

Highways Network department to urgently execute the repairs to this key piece of transport infrastructure connecting the Coast with the Andalucian interior. Works are expected to begin next month and should be completed within 18 months at a cost of some 6.5 million euros.

Local author receives recognition from Manilva’s Mayor for his guidebook ‘Road to Manilva’ On the evening of Saturday 24th September 2016, in the historic setting of the 18th century castle at Castillo de la Duquesa Mayor of Manilva, Diego José Jiménez and Councillor Dean Shelton presented the upcoming programme of events organised by the council for the benefit of residents. During the presentation local writer Nick Nutter was called on to the stage to accept a plaque in thanks for ‘Showing the world our best secret’, the guidebook he wrote, ‘The Road to Manilva’. In his acceptance speech Nick explained about the book and why he wrote it. "Manilva Municipality, at the westernmost end of Malaga Province, is very much the forgotten part of the Costa del Sol. Most people have heard of Marbella, Malaga and Puerto Banus. Many know Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Benalmadena but Manilva? I have lived here for seventeen years and have come to appreciate what Manilva has to offer. It is a much slower, calmer way of life. There are no great crowds. Visitors tend, in the main, to be well behaved. Above all I find that the Spanish population are friendly and tolerant of the foreigner, as they have been for over 3000 years. As I learnt about the history of the municipality, at first just out of interest, I discovered that a number of civilisations had influenced the people of this area. Aparecen en Estepona los restos de la tenería medieval mejor conservada de la península ibérica El concejal adscrito al área de Patrimonio Histórico, José María Guerrero, ha informado hoy de que han aparecido en Estepona los restos de la tenería medieval mejor conservada de la época medieval. El hallazgo se ha producido en los terrenos donde se construirá el futuro hotel Maravillas, junto a la plaza de Las Flores, en pleno centro de la ciudad. Los restos datan del siglo XI y XII y se componen de cinco piletas redondas y cuatro rectangulares que eran utilizadas por los curtidores para el tratamiento de pieles y cuero. El edil ha explicado que los restos se encuentran en un “buenísimo estado de conservación, lo que lo convierte en uno de los hallazgos, dentro de esta tipología, más importantes de la península ibérica”. Por otro lado, el arqueólogo municipal, Ildefonso Navarro, ha apuntado que también ha aparecido un horno de cocción cerámica del siglo XIV que, “con total seguridad pertenecía a un taller de alfarería de la época”.

Los trabajos se han llevado a cabo durante ocho semanas por una empresa especializada, Arqueotectura, cuya representante, Toñi Martín, ha destacado el buen estado de conservación de los restos a pesar de que el nivel freático es muy alto y las condiciones para desenterrar el yacimiento han sido complicadas por las filtraciones de agua. José María Guerrero ha adelantado que este yacimiento arqueológico “será el primero que se musealizará en la ciudad dentro del propio edificio del hotel Maravillas”. En este sentido, ha apuntado que el arquitecto está modificando el proyecto del hotel para que los restos puedan visitarse dentro de las instalaciones. Para ello, se colocará un suelo de cristal en la zona del restaurante donde se podrán contemplar algunas de las piletas del hallazgo. El edil ha destacado que este hallazgo “representa un hito histórico para el patrimonio y la cultura de la ciudad, reivindicando su importancia y la singularidad de

nuestra historia”. El hallazgo de esta tenería industrial se encuentra en los extramuros de lo que,

The remains date from the XI and XII century and consist of five round and four rectangular pools which were used by tanners for the treatment of fur and leather. The remains

are in terrific condition, making it one of the most important findings of this kind on the Iberian Peninsula. Municipal archaeologist, Ildefonso Navarro, noted that they also discovered a pottery kiln for firing from the fourteenth century, which ‘is safe to say belonged to a pottery workshop of the time’. The work has been ongoing for eight weeks through a specialized company, Arqueotectura, whose representative, Toni Martin, highlighted the good condition of the remains even though the water table is very high and the conditions to unearth the site have been complicated by water seepage. Councilor for heritage José María Guerrero has advanced that this archaeological site will be the first to be made into a museum in the town within the Maravillas hotel building itself. In this regard, he pointed out that the architect is modifying the hotel project so that the remains can be visited within the facility. A glass floor has been placed in the restaurant area where customers will be able to admire some of the pools. This industrial tannery is located on the outskirts of what was the city of Estebbuna and near the Calancha river and the sea. Guerrero has expressed the intention from the town hall to continue working to preserve the heritage of the town.

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha anunciado ahorros de un millón de euros en combustible desde el 2011 Estepona ha ahorrado más de un millón de euros en combustible según una declaración del Departamento de finanzas del Ayuntamiento. Según el concejal Manuel Aguilar, la factura de combustible para la flota municipal se ha reducido de 264.000 euros en 2011 a solo 60.000 euros en 2015, dando ejemplo de nuevo de cómo gestionar los recursos públicos de forma efectiva y responsablemente. Entre las medidas incluidas, se ha impuesto el control del uso de los vehículos por parte de los empleados del ayuntamiento, asegurando sobre todo que los vehículos no se utilicen

fuera del horario laboral. La adquisición de siete vehículos híbridos para la policía local ha conseguido un ahorro de 2.400 litros de combustible, reduciendo al mismo tiempo la contaminación. Estos ahorros se suman a los más de 900.000 euros reducidos en costes energéticos gracias al plan de eficiencia energético y a los 1,7 millones de euros en costes de telefonía. “Todos estos ahorros pueden dirigirse a los trabajos que importan para la población local, como la remodelación del casco antiguo y otros proyectos públicos” concluyó el Concejal Aguilar.

El Ayuntamiento recibe 10 millones de euros de fondos europeos para avanzar en el proyecto ‘Estepona, Jardín de la Costa del Sol’ El Ayuntamiento solicitó en enero una subvención de los Fondos Europeos de Desarrollo Regional (Feder) para proyectos como el parque fluvial en la zona de Monterroso, la construcción de la segunda circunvalación o la remodelación y embellecimiento del centro urbano. El alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, ha anunciado que los Fondos Europeos de Desarrollo Regional (Feder) han concedido una subvención de 10 millones de euros al Ayuntamiento de Estepona para continuar avanzando en el proyecto ‘Estepona, Jardín de la Costa del Sol’. El equipo de gobierno solicitó el pasado enero acceder a estas ayudas para el Desarrollo Urbano Sostenible e Integrado. Entre las iniciativas que podrán

El Cine-Club inicia el ciclo de otoño con una película sobre el grupo andaluz de rock Triana Estepona informa de que el próximo jueves 6 de octubre, a las 20:00 horas, dará inicio en el Centro Cultural Padre Manuel, el ciclo de otoño del Cine-Club, con la proyección de 'Todo es de color', una película dirigida por Gonzalo García Pelayo, con la que rinde tributo al mítico grupo de rock Triana. A thirty metre mural of a lighthouse is the latest addition to Estepona’s Mural Route The latest addition to Estepona’s Mural Route is a 30 metre rendition of a lighthouse on the side of Edificio Vista Africa, close to the Plaza de Toros and the town’s Punta Doncella lighthouse. This latest work is by the artist Ana Torralba and brings to 34 the total number of giant murals adorning the town’s building facades since the project began in 2012. The artist explained that the work represents the naive and pop art styles with the use of pure and intense colours. The mural is entitled ‘Six seconds in shadow’ and refers to the time between sweeps of Estepona’s lighthouse, in which the sea is darkness.

¿Qué es la Cláusula Suelo? La cláusula suelo es aquella cláusula que establece un mínimo a pagar en las cuotas mensuales de la hipoteca, aunque los intereses acordados con la entidad financiera estén por debajo o bien hayan bajado. Normalmente el tipo de interés que se fija en la mayoría de las hipotecas suele ser el Euribor más un diferencial que suele variar en cada entidad financiera. Por ejemplo: si su hipoteca establece un tipo de interés de Euribor + 1 y el Euribor esta a 1%, usted debería pagar un 2% de interés. Sin embargo si tiene una hipoteca con una cláusula suelo de un 3%, su cuota se calculara sobre el 3% y no sobre el 2%. En definitiva la clausula suelo establece el tipo de interés mínimo que se va pagar SIEMPRE, pase lo que pase con el Euribor. Esto se traduce en una limitación en la bajada de las cuotas del comprador cuando los tipos de interés se reducen, ocasionando un perjuicio económico para el usuario que se ve obligado a pagar más dinero cada mes.

¿Son ilegales las cláusulas suelo? Según los tribunales la mera

inclusión de las clausulas en los prestamos no es ilegal, lo que sí es ilegal es incluirlas sin informar suficientemente a los clientes sobre sus consecuencias. Por lo tanto lo que hacen los tribunales es anularlas, lo que quiere decir es que se tienen por no puestas. Las entidades financieras tienen la obligación de explicar a los clientes de forma que lo entiendan todas las clausulas que forman el contrato de préstamo.

¿Estoy afectado por la cláusula suelo? Para saberlo es conveniente que un profesional analice el contrato firmado ya que las palabras “clausula suelo” no suele aparecer literalmente en el texto. Los términos que suelen aparecer son “tipo de interés mínimo, limite a la variabilidad, limite a la aplicación de interés variable, que el tipo de interés no puede ser inferior a X, etc. Una señal de su existencia es que no hayas visto rebajada tu cuota mensual desde 2009 en adelante.

la más importante en lo que se refiere a las clausulas suelo ya que da la razón a los afectados por las hipotecas de diferentes bancos como BBVA o Cajamar al anular las clausulas suelo. Pero lo importante de dicha sentencia es que establece una retroactividad desde su pronunciamiento, es decir, que únicamente se devolvería el dinero cobrado de más a partir de la fecha de la sentencia. La justificación de ellos está en el grave perjuicio que supondría para la economía española tener que devolver todo el dinero cobrado de más desde la firma de contrato.

Sentencia del Tribunal de la UE Ahora los afectados están a la espera de que el tribunal de la UE dicte sentencia que decida sobre la retroactividad de la anulación de las clausulas suelo, bien que tenga efectos desde el 9 de mayo de 2013 o desde su origen. El pasado 13 de Julio de 2016 el abogado general del TJUE, Paolo Mengozzi, ya nos ha adelantado, en su informe, que los bancos no tendrán que devolver todo, sino lo cobrado de más desde 2013, con el mismo argumento, que sería un peligro para la economía del país obligar a los bancos a devolver todo el dinero. Normalmente las decisiones que adopta el TJUE suelen ir en consonancia con las conclusiones del Abogado General con lo cual ya nos podemos hacer una idea hasta que punto podemos reclamar el perjuicio sufrido por las mencionadas clausulas. Por ello siempre recomendamos que la compra de la vivienda se haga con la asistencia de un abogado especializado. What is a Ground Clause (“Clausula Suelo”)?

The ground clause is that which establishes a minimum interest rate payable in monthly mortgage payments, applicable even though the interest rate agreed with the financial institution is lower or has reduced. Usually the agreed interest rate is calculated using the Euribor, (Euro Interbank Offered Rate), plus an additional percentage rate set by the finance company. This percentage rate can vary depending upon which financial institution is involved. For example, if your mortgage establishes an interest rate of Euribor, + 1% and the Euribor is at 1%, you should then pay a 2% interest. However, if you have a mortgage with a ground clause at 3%, it would be calculated at that 3% rate and would not be reduced to 2%. Ultimately, this ground clause sets the minimum interest rate to be paid ALWAYS, no matter what the Euribor is. This results in a limitation in the lowering of payment quotas for the client when interest rates are reduced, causing economic harm to them as they are forced to pay more money each month. Are “Ground Clauses” legal? According to the courts the mere inclusion of this clause in loans is not illegal, what is illegal is that it is included without adequately informing clients about the consequences. Therefore the courts have annulled this clause and consider it invalid. Financial institutions have a legal obligation to explain all of the clauses to their clients so that they understand exactly what the loan agreement specifies. Does the ground clause affect me? In order to find out if this clause affects you it is advisable to ask for a professional to analyse the signed contract as the words “ground clause” do not usually appear in the text per se. The terms that usually appear are “minimum interest rate”, “limit the variability”, “limit the application of variable interest rate”, “the interest rate cannot be lower than X”, etc. If you have not seen any reduction in your monthly payments since 2009, then this may well indicate the existence of this clause in your contract The Spanish Supreme Court judgment One of the most important decisions was made regarding this issue by the Supreme Court on May 9th 2013 when the ruling made was in favour of all those affected with mortgages from different banks like BBVA and Cajamar and the base or ground clause was annulled. However, the main point was that in their ruling they established retroactivity from the date of its pronouncement. That is to say that only the overcharged amounts paid from the date of the final sentence would be reimbursed. They justified this decision by referring to the serious damage that would be caused to the Spanish economy if the financial institutions were obliged to repay all of the overcharged amounts from the date of the signing of the loan contract. The EU Court Judgment Now the victims are waiting for the EU Tribunal’s decision regarding the retroactivity of the cancellation of the ground clauses, as to whether reimbursement would take effect from 9 May 2013 or from the date of its inception. On 13 July 2016 the Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union, (CJEU)), Paolo Mengozzi already advised us in his report, that banks will not return all of the overpaid money, but only reimburse that which was overcharged from 2013, using the same argument; that it would endanger the country’s economy if the banks were forced to repay all of the money back. Normally the decisions taken by the CJEU follow the line of the Opinion of the Advocate General, so we could assume that this would apply to this issue, and therefore, we have an idea of how far back we could claim the loss suffered by the aforementioned clauses. La caridad empieza por uno mismo

Charity begins at home

Mandy Thornton de The Curtain and Bedding Shop en Sabinillas ha estado muy ocupada este verano recaudando dinero y comida para el refugio y comedor social Hogar Betania en La Línea. Todo comenzó cuando le pidieron que echara una mano mientras otro de los benefactores del centro estaba de vacaciones. Mandy no lo dudó y pronto estaba coordinando entregas de comida y otros artículos necesarios para alimentar a 76 niños en la unidad de atención diurna del centro. Pero la participación de Mandy no se detuvo ahí, ya que hay tanto que hacer en el centro, incluyendo el acondicionamiento de otros nueve dormitorios en el albergue para sin techo del centro. Con la ayuda de otra residente local, Denise Kinahan, consiguieron recaudar suficiente dinero, unos 3.000 euros, para acondicionar dos dormitorios y proporcionar muebles para una nueva clase, y actualmente están recaudando dinero para un tercer dormitorio. Mandy y Denise están planificando para estas Navidades, donde se espera que las instalaciones de atención diurna del centro acojan a más de los 76 niños que usaron las instalaciones este verano. No solo los alimentarán, sino que ofrecerán regalos de forma que todos los niños tengan un regalo en Navidad.

Mandy Thornton from the Curtain and Bedding Shop in Sabinillas has had a very busy summer raising money and collecting food for the Hogar Betania refuge and social kitchen in La Linea. It all began when she was asked to help out whilst another of the centre's benefactors was on holiday. Mandy didn't hesitate and was soon coordinating deliveries of food and other necessary items to feed the 76 children at the centre's daycare unit. But Mandy's involvement didn't stop there as there is so much that needs doing at the centre, including the refurbishment of a further nine bedrooms in the centre’s homeless shelter. With the help of another local resident, Denise Kinahan, they managed to raise enough money, around 3,000 euros, to refurbish two rooms and to provide furniture

for a new classroom, and are currently collecting money to fit out a third bedroom Mandy and Denise are also planning for Christmas break when it is expected that the centre’s daycare facilities will see even more than the 76 kids that used the facilities in the summer. Not only are they looking at feeding them, but also providing gifts so that none of the children goes without. Laude School Halloween Danceathon in aid of Cudeca Once again TRE are holding their annual TRE Telethon 2016 in aid of Cudeca Hospice and you are invited to join in on Friday 25th November during the whole day. One of the ways in which you can help Cudeca Hospice is by creating your own event within the Telethon project. Laude San Pedro International School College is celebrating a Halloween Danceathon next Friday 28th October in the school. Laude College, alongside Talk Radio Europe (TRE), is proud to form part of a series of events that will raise awareness and funds for the wonderful charity Cudeca Hospice. Laude San Pedro International College will hold a non-uniform day on Friday 28th October, celebrating a ‘Halloween Danceathon’ that will involve students and staff from all key stages including Early Years, Primary and Secondary, dressed up in their spookiest outfits,

dancing their little hearts away, raising funds for such a worthy cause! The event will take place at the school´s sports hall and will start at 3:30pm. In order to participate, all students and staff are required to make a minimum donation of 1€. Cudeca Hospice cares for over 1,100 people each year suffering from cancer or other advanced noncurable illnesses. Cudeca offers their “Special Care” to the patient

and support to the family thanks to their professional team of doctors, physicians, psychologists, nurses and qualified volunteers. Since 1992, Cudeca has cared for more than 11,000 patients, coordinating from the Hospice Centre the following care programmes: Home Care Visits, In-Patient Unit, Day Care Centre and many other multi-disciplinary activities. All the support provided is completely free of charge.

Costa Rambles with Guy Hunter-Watts In the latest Cicerone walking guide to hit the shelves Coastal Walks of Andalucía, Guy HunterWatts charts 40 great walks along the Costa del Sol and the Costa de la Luz.

The Gibraltar walk he's chosen for this issue of The Resident describes one of southern Spain's most stunning on-foot adventures, an ascent of the Rock's southern face via the Mediterranean steps

followed by a ridge walk back towards Main Street. The walk is well within the capabilities of anyone in good health who walks on a regular basis provided that you have a good head for heights.

Gibraltar Circuit via the Mediterranean Steps and Ingliss Way Overview I was bowled over when I discovered this mesmerising trail thanks to my friend Freddie Vasquez of Triay & Triay. The highlight of the walk – so long as you have a head for heights - is the footpath that leads up the sheer, southern face of the Rock, popularly known as Mediterranean Steps. This giddy path has recently been restored by the Bonito Trust and you’ll be marveling at the derring-do of those

who built it. There are many more treats in store. After negotiating the Steps next comes Douglas’ path which cuts along Gibraltar’s rugged spine with huge views both east and west. The next challenge comes in the forms of Charles V’s Wall which you descend via a series of steep flights of steps. And to end an already magnificent circuit up pops Ingliss Way leading back towards the start point of

the walk through a thick stand of Mediterranean scrub: it’s beggars belief to think that the cut-andthrust of Main Street is just a few hundred metres away.

Beyond the gate climb two flights of steps, pass a statue of Elliott (commander of the Rock during the Siege of 1779-83) then after 15m bear left up a narrow path. Climb another flight of steps then continue up Olive Tree Climb which merges with a broader path which leads to a red post box. Here cut left at a sign Exit Upper Rock and climb past The Rock Hotel’s swimming pool. Passing through the gate to the gardens continue parallel to Europa Road to a footbridge, cross the road then head up Engineer Road. The road climbs steeply to the gates of the Nature Reserve of The Upper Rock. Continuing to climb the road leads to another set of gates and a

ticket box (40 mins) (it’s worth 50 pence and a short detour to visit one of the hypothetical sites of the The Pillars of Hercules, Mons Carpe). Angling left beyond the ticket box to a barrier you reach the beginning of Mediterranean Steps. Passing a metal gate you follow the steps along the near sheer face of Gibraltar’s southern flank. Passing a signboard detailing the fauna of the Upper Rock the path cuts left and climbs steeply: ropes help your upwardly mobile course. Reaching a bricked up building (1 hr) angle right through a tunnel beyond which you pass two bunkers: the views from the platform just beyond the second one are breathtaking.

The Walk The walk begins in front of Landport Gate just beyond the drawbridge. From here cut through two tunnels to reach Casemate Square. Head along the square’s left side then continue to the far end of Main Street passing John Macintosh Square then The Convent. At the far end of the street pass beneath an arch then cut right across a pedestrian crossing. Bear left, traverse a second crossing and head on past Queen’s Hotel. Angling left you reach the hotel’s entrance. Here cross the road, pass right of a restaurant to the lower station of the cable car then angle left across a car park to the gateway to the Gibraltar Botanic Gardens. (20 mins)

Angling left the path zigzags up to a signboard describing the Rock’s unique flora. Passing a group of antennae you reach the highest point of the walk as vistas open out to the west. Angling left and descending you reach the entrance gate to the World War II Tunnels. Here cut right down a narrow road for 400m to a junction and sign 1789-1897. (1 hr 25 mins) Here cut right past a barrier: you’re now on Douglas’ Path which angles up to the ridgetop through thick Mediterranean scrub where it reaches O’Hara’s Battery. Continue along the spine of the Rock, now descending, to St Michael’s Road. Angling right here you pass a signboard telling of a Spanish attack on the Rock in 1704. Continue along the road then pass beneath an arch where Gib’s resident apes often gather to look at tourists. Beyond the arch you reach the top of Charles V’s wall. Continue up St Michael’s Road, angle right at the first fork then climb to the top station of the cable car where there’s a café and a viewing platform up to the right: close encounters of the ape kind are guaranteed as well as mesmerising views of Africa and the western end of the Costa del Sol. (1 hr 40 mins) Retrace your footsteps to the top of Charles V’s Wall then cut right and make your way down the first section of wall. Cutting right then left, drop down its second section. Cut right at a brick building then left through a gate and continue

down the third section of wall to a picnic area. Exit onto Queen’s Road where, just opposite, you’ll see a sign Ingliss Way. Follow the path up past an old bunker. 15m before reaching a tarmac road the path cuts left and threads its way through thick Mediterranean scrub. Crossing a plastic pipe, you reach a fence. Cutting right the path climbs then arcs left, parallel to a low wall. Angling left and descending across two metal pipes you come to a road (2 hrs 15 mins) Cut left for 50m then angle right along Queen’s Road. Reaching a Give Way sign continue straight on towards the entrance to The Great Siege Tunnels, angle left down Willis road for 200m then loop hard right. After150m angling once more left past The Moorish Castle you reach twin Give Way signs. Here angle right and drop down to a crenellated tower then follow the road as it angles left. Just as it arcs once more right past two huge palms cut left along a One Way street. Reaching a sign for Castle Steps turn right down a flight of steps which angle right then left to a junction. Turning right along Engineer’s Lane you return to Main Street. From here retrace your steps to the start point of the walk. Director de cine local gana el Desafío 24 Horas del Festival de Cine Internacionalde Marbella Según el director de la empresa, Craig Ruddock, “Eso se queda corto. Todo el equipo asistió a diferentes seminarios y talleres durante la semana, que han demostrado ser enormemente valiosos. En general, el festival fue impresionante, y una seria oportunidad de conocer a gente muy interesante. La película ganadora fue “London Heist”, otro drama de gánsteres rodado en España y Reino Unido y protagonizado por Craig Fairbrass. También tuvimos la oportunidad de disfrutar de varias premieres de películas de todo el mundo”. Ruddock Films presentó su primer largometraje, “Dirty Cash” el año pasado. La película, ambientada en Gibraltar y la Costa del Sol, tuvo como protagonistas a varios talentos locales, y para muchos de ellos fue su primera experiencia en el cine. Una parte clave del Festival es el desafío de película en 24 horas en la que el director, con el elenco y el equipo (o solo con una cámara

y un portátil), tiene el desafío de rodar un cortometraje de tres a cuatro minutos sobre un asunto concreto. La tarea es escribir un guion, dirigir a los actores, rodar la película, editarla, crear la banda sonora, etc., y presentar la película en 24 horas. Este año el tema fue: “His Fair Lady – una mujer local quiere ser famosa, pero su marido se niega”. Craig y su equipo se lanzaron al desafío realizando una mini audición para el papel protagonista, que fue a Terri Harmston, mientras que el papel del marido fue para la estrella de “Dirty Cash” Roger Portainer. David Harmston asumió el papel de productor como hace en Ruddock and Co. Anne Marie Hickey Jones tuvo un papel importante y Zuzana Ruddock se encargó hábilmente de la producción, ayudada por Liz Portainer. “Tras hablar con el director del festival, Siamak “Mac” Chakaveh, él muy amablemente llamó a Craig Fairbrass de camino a la premiere

Local filmmaker wins Marbella International Film Festival 24-hour challenge Local filmmaker Ruddock & Co Film Productions was invited to attend this year’s Marbella International Film Festival by the organizers with a view to exploring the huge amount of film choices in a private cinema experience and perhaps learning a thing or two. According to company director, Craig Ruddock, “That was an understatement the whole team attended various seminars and workshops throughout the week which have already proved invaluable, generally the whole festival was a blast as well as a serious networking opportunity, the winning feature was ‘London Heist’ another gangster drama set in Spain and UK starring Craig Fairbrass as well as premiere after premiere of amazing films from all

around the world.” Ruddock Films released their first feature length film ‘Dirty Cash’ last year. The film, which was set in Gibraltar and the Costa del Sol, featured a cast of local talent, many of whom were appearing on film for the first time. A key part of the Festival is the 24hour film challenge in which the filmmaker, with the cast and the crew, (or just alone with a camera and laptop!) is challenged to make a three to four minute short film on a given subject matter. The task is to write a script, direct the actors, shoot the film, edit, sound and music, and deliver the film in 24 hours. This year the theme was: ‘His Fair Lady - A local woman wants to be famous but her husband doesn’t’

Craig and his team threw themselves into the challenge holding a mini audition for the female lead which went to Terri Harmston, with ‘Dirty Cash’ star Roger Portainer filling the role of husband, and David Harmston jumping into the producer role as he also does at Ruddock and Co. Anne Marie Hickey Jones bagged a few important lines with Zuzana Ruddock on production ably assisted by Liz Portainer. “After having a word with the festival director Siamak ‘Mac’ Chakaveh he very kindly gave Craig Fairbrass a call on his way to his premiere for the film ‘London Heist’ and Craig Fairbrass amazingly, and without any direction, jumped into character and told our "Anita the Crank" played by Terri Harmston that he had enough and where to go.”

Despite stiff competition, both in Spain and worldwide via the internet, Ruddock and Company were awarded top honours receiving the coveted trophy for 24 hour challenge a valuable trophy on any aspiring filmmaker’s list as it's much harder than it sounds. “Overall the festival was a great insight for our company and help

Exposición “Símbolos en Movimiento” del artista KIZITO ALAOMA en la Casa de la Juventud Artista nigeriano Kizito Alaoma presentará desde el próximo día 7 de octubre, en la Casa de la Juventud, sita en la Plaza de las Flores, su última exposición individual “Símbolos en Movimiento”. La exposición consta de 16 cuadros realizados en técnica mixta, carbón, lápiz y acuarela, principalmente. Es un homenaje a las formas de comunicación que idearon los pueblos de la antigüedad. Una idea generada por el artista Kizito Alaoma que integra símbolos tradicionales del este de Nigeria (llamados Uli y Nsibidi), antiguos símbolos; jeroglíficos de Egipto, India, China y Japón. El valor de la obra está no sólo en ese trabajo de investigación y recuperación de esos símbolos, sino también en esa manera peculiar de hermandad y equilibrio con que los combina. En unos añade color, en otros diferentes texturas. En todos destaca la plasticidad y la consonancia. Estos símbolos se utilizaron para la comunicación y la decoración, pero también representan la cultura de la gente. Sabemos que los antepasados de los tres continentes (África, Asia y América) utilizaban símbolos como medio de comunicación. Llama a estos signos “Símbolos de la Tierra” debido a sus

orígenes ancestrales y porque se derivan principalmente de la naturaleza. La muestra podrá ser visitada hasta el 28 de octubre en el horario habitual de

la Casa de la Juventud de Estepona, de martes a viernes, de 09:00 a 13:30 y de 17:00 a 20:00 horas, y sábados de 10:00 a 14:00 horas, con entrada libre.

The exhibition consists of 16 works in a range of techniques including charcoal, pencil, and watercolour mainly. María en sus témporas El día a día…, qué sabemos de este segundo envolviéndonos, introduciéndose en las venas, en las células del árbol de nuestro cuerpo, en los ríos jóvenes, maduros o viejos. Qué sabemos de nuestro tiempo. La huerta, los montes, el perro, la comida, la viuda, la nada, y los caballos, los reales y los alazanes imaginarios. Quién pasa, el arco de la senectud, que antes fue joven y transitó ante el defecto, la virtud, lo humano, la convivencia, lo crucial, el traspié del nieto, la caída del mar en una ola sobre la puerta; ay qué broma puede gastarle el pez y el jilguero a María. Ella es de campo, de huerto callado; flores del níspero en libertad de primavera, columpiando perfumes las hojas; ayunando el olivo en su aliento, convidando a los gorriones a sus regueros longevos y verdes. El patio venturoso de flores de María. Pero ella es también de mar, en la costa una llama de agua, una ladera de playa y música para dejar su huella una sonrisa eterna en la orilla. Que es ella, ¿la veis?…, la vieja María. Y qué. Quién es el que pasa, la voz en acuarela de besos; los brazos, en un amor entendido, familiar y ocupado. Coastal Walks of Andalucía by Guy Hunter Watts In the latest Cicerone walking guide to hit the shelves Coastal Walks of Andalucía, Guy Hunter-Watts charts 40 great walks along the Costa del Sol and the Costa de la Luz First associations of the southern Spanish costas are all too often of crowded beaches, busy coastal roads and blocks of holiday apartments. Few amongst us conjure up visions of the mighty chain of mountains, the tail end of the Sierra Subbética, which rises up a few kilometres back from the sea. Nor do many of us evoke the wilder beaches of the Costa de la Luz or the footpaths that run just a few metres from the Atlantic surf. When Guy Hunter-Watts, author of Cicerone’s Walking in Andalucía and the Andalucían Coast to Coast Walk, set out to research a new book of walks just back from the beach the beauty of the trails he discovered took him by surprise. “The compilation of this book has been a journey of discovery” writes G.H-W in the book’s introduction, adding “Not to walk out and discover these oceanside paths, gorges, river pools, high passes and peaks would be to miss out on one the biggest experiences that this multi-faceted region of Iberia has to offer.” The book describes walking trails in seven different protected areas from Vejer on the Costa de la Luz to Almuñecar on the Costa Tropical. There are oceanside rambles close to Bolonia, a stunning ridge walk on Gibraltar by way of the Mediteranean Steps, and some great walks close to Estepona, Manilva and Casares. You’ll find trails through the Sierra de Ojén above Marbella and newly marked trails around Míjas, Nerja and Frigiliana. Most walks described are circular whilst linear walks come with advice on how best to return to your point of departure. The format of the book sticks to that of Hunter-Watts’ other guides with highlighted maps, GPS references and detailed walking notes as well as the author’s own photographs. There’s an overview of each of the different parks along with recommended places to eat and to sleep.

¿Las mascotas, se aburren? Aunque los científicos recuerdan que ciertas dosis de aburrimiento son buenas para las personas, ya que estimulan la creatividad, a nadie le gusta aburrirse todo el tiempo. Y, en esto, las mascotas no son una excepción. Las mascotas sin estímulos pueden desarrollar problemas de conducta, como romper los muebles de la casa o hurgar en la basura, por el simple gozo de conseguir captar la atención de sus humanos. Una mascota aburrida que duerme todo el día o pasa demasiadas horas sola carece de la motivación necesaria para su normal desarrollo. Esto explica por qué no es extraño que una tedioso demuestre su falta de entretenimiento con problemas de comportamiento, como vocalizaciones excesivos, destrozos en el hogar o desobediencia. Estas conductas no son más que el modo que tiene la mascota de comunicar a su amo que tiene un problema. Sin embargo, su hastío puede desembocar en trastornos todavía más graves. Así, un perro o un gato que no recibe la atención y los cuidados anímicos que requiere puede incluso desarrollar problemas de salud, como ansiedad por separación cuando se queda solo en casa y algunas formas de depresión canina.

Pero evitar el aburrimiento del perro es posible. A continuación se dan cinco ideas geniales para lograrlo.

1. Elegir bien sus juguetes “Los juguetes no son un lujo para nuestros mascotas, sino una necesidad”, explican los veterinarios de la Sociedad Contra la Crueldad Hacia los Animales. Y es que los juguetes ayudan a combatir el aburrimiento cuando la mascota se queda solo en casa. Pero, además, los juguetes le proporcionan bienestar, lo que evita que desarrolle conductas problemáticas y poco saludables. Contar con una variedad de juguetes puede resultar de gran utilidad para acabar con su tedio. Hay animales que prefieren los juguetes blandos, otros que optan de mayor agrado por las pelotas para ellos y algunos enloquecen con los muñecos que hacen ruido. Hay que tener en cuenta sus preferencias al elegir los juguetes más adecuados para él.

2. Prepararle comida especial ¿Quién no disfruta de un buen plato de comida con nuevos sabores y de cuidadas recetas caseras elaboradas con cariño? Pues, de nuevo, en esto los animales no son menos. Una dieta basada en restos de comida no es saludable para ellos,

pero esto no significa que no se pueda premiarles con un poco de pollo (sin huesos y magro), ricas comidas caseras para canes y latas de alimento húmedo. Además, “la falta de estimulación mental en perros y gatos puede provocarles tantos problemas alimentarios como una dieta no adecuada. Por eso, trastornos alimentarios, como la coprofagia, la alimentación compulsiva e, incluso, la obesidad, están también relacionados con el aburrimiento y la falta de incentivos psicólogos”, advierte el nutricionista veterinario Tony Buffington, de la Asociación Americana de Hospitalizaciones Animales. En esta tarea puede ayudar hacer galletas caseras y hasta seguir varios trucos para rellenar el juguete kong con los más ricos y sabrosos bocados caninos.

Los juguetes interactivos para hacer más estimulante la comida de los animales están de moda. Además, son una divertida y saludable forma de estimular su mente. La pauta es olvidarse de los cuencos de comida rebosantes de bolitas y hacerle trabajar un poco por su comida. Bolitas de pienso ocultas en tubos, que el animal necesita sacar con ayuda de sus patas, y hasta comedores con forma de puzle sustituyen a los cuencos tradicionales. De esta manera se ejercita la mente de la mascota ¡y se divierte!

Proporcionarle olores divertidos Es habitual infravalorar cómo de importante es la nariz para los perros. Sin embargo, una de las razones por las que un can disfruta tanto de los paseos al aire libre se oculta en su olfato: los olores disparan su mente. Además de los paseos, se puede prevenir el aburrimiento del perro con comidas que contienen olores nuevos. Además, en la lista de juegos olfativos que estimulan la mente del perro es posible encontrar varios que ahuyenten el aburrimiento. ¿Algunas ideas? Crear una pista de rastreo y ¡jugar a buscar un escondite muy oloroso donde está el premio!

Los perros y los gatos son animales inteligentes que también necesitan sentir que son útiles y que ellos pueden aprender cosas nuevas. Trucos (para perros) como aprender a sentarse, la enseñanza de ellos (los gatos pueden aprender a caminar con una correa) no tirar de la correa o (para perros y gatos) aprender de venir cuando se le llama, para jugar con juguetes u otros objetos, estos pueden ser sólo algunas sugerencias como valiosas herramientas utilizadas en la educación de los animales y por lo que es un poco de un juego para ellos bien puede ser también una ayuda de la diversión para ellos!

Does your pet get bored? Although scientists point out that certain doses of boredom are good for people, as they stimulate creativity, no one likes to be bored all the time. Given this concept, pets are no exception. Pets without stimuli can develop behavioural problems, such as destroying the furniture in the house or going for the rubbish bin, for the simple joy of getting to capture the attention of their owner. A bored pet that sleeps all day or spends too many hours alone lacks the necessary motivation for normal development. This explains why it is not surprising that a pet with a lack of stimuli may demonstrate its lack of entertainment with behavioural problems such as excessive vocalising, destruction at home or disobedience. These behaviours are the only way the pet has to communicate to its master that it has a problem. However, its boredom can lead to even more serious disorders. So a pet that does not get the attention and care it requires can even develop health problems

such as separation anxiety or some forms of depression if left alone at home. But avoiding boredom for a dog is possible. Here are five great ideas to achieve this.

1. How to choose their toys "Toys are not a luxury for dogs (or cats), but a necessity," explain the vets from the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. It has been found that toys help combat boredom when the pet is left alone at home. But they also provide for their well being helping to prevent the development of problematic and unhealthy behaviours. Having a variety of toys can be useful to end their tedium. There are pets who prefer soft toys, others who are more pleased by the balls for them, while go mad with the dolls that make noise. Your preferences must be taken into account when choosing the most appropriate (toys) for them.

2. Prepare them special food Who does not enjoy a good meal with new flavours and maintained homemade recipes made with honey? Well, here again, our pets do not want to be left out. A diet based on food scraps is not healthy for them, but this does not mean that you cannot reward, them occasionally, with a little chicken (boneless and lean), delicious homemade food for dogs or cats and cans of wet food. In addition, "the lack of mental stimulation in dogs and cats can provoke many food problems as an inadequate diet. Therefore, eating disorders, such as coprofagia, compulsive eating and even obesity, which also are related to boredom and, according to psychologists, a lack of incentives," warns Tony Buffington, veterinary nutritionist with the American Animal Hospital Association. This can be achieved by the making of homemade cookies and trying various methods to fill a Kong or other toy with rich and tasty pet snacks.

3. Tasty Toys Provide tasty toys, interactive toys, to make eating for them more stimulating, are the latest trends. In addition, they are a fun and healthy way to stimulate their minds. The idea is to forget the bowls overflowing with food pellets and make them work a little for their food. Pellets hidden tubes think that the animal needs to get to with the help of its paws, and even feeding implements that are a bit of a puzzle to replace traditional bowls. In this way the mind of the pet gets some mental exercise and is presented with

a challenging exercise and fun for them with a healthy reward!

4. Provide Aromas Provide pleasant pleasing aromas, it is common to underestimate how important the sense of smell is for our pets. One of the reasons why they enjoy both being outdoors and walks are the hidden smells they encounter: the sense of smell triggers their mind. In addition to the outdoor excursions, you can prevent their boredom with foods that contain new and varied smells. In addition, in the list of olfactory games that stimulate the animal mind it is possible to find several that will help to placate boredom. Any ideas? Create a tracking course and see if they will search the hiding place for a very odorous pet search stash, with the hidden treat as a reward!

5. Teach new tricks Dogs and cats are intelligent animals that also need to feel that they are useful and that can learn new things. Tricks (for dogs) as learning to sit, teaching them (cats can be taught to walk with a lead) not to pull on the lead or (for dogs and cats) train them to come when called, to play with toys or other objects, these may be just some suggestions as valuable tools used in animal education and by making it a bit of a game for them may well also be fun diversions for them!

abemos que como sociedad nuestros hijos son mucho más sedentarios que nuestras generaciones anteriores, así que introducirlos a diferentes deportes cuando son pequeños es clave para desarrollar diferentes habilidades y acceder a la capacidad natural del niño, además de hacer que estén en forma y conozcan nuevos amigos. No todos los niños disfrutarán de los deportes en equipo: algunos no quieren practicar ningún deporte, así que como entrenadora y madre, me haría la siguiente pregunta: ¿qué le gusta hacer a este niño? Y según los puntos fuertes (o débiles) del niño, seleccionaremos a partir de ahí un deporte que pueda estimularlo o canalizar su energía. El rugby ofrece muchas ventajas en cuanto a las habilidades que el niño puede conseguir, entre ellas, ponerse en forma. He estado involucrada con el rugby durante más de 22 años, desde entrenadora de fitness a dar apoyo a la larga e ilustre carrera como jugador de rugby de mi marido. Personalmente me encanta el juego, me gusta

su estructura, su desglose en diferentes elementos físicos y me encantan sus disciplinas. Introduje a mi hijo en el rugby cuando tenía cuatro años, y nunca me he arrepentido. Ahora he decidido involucrarme más con el Club de Rugby del Estrecho en Pueblo Nuevo. Tienen su propio campo e instalaciones de entrenamiento, y ofrecen entrenamiento de rugby y partidos desde los cuatro años de edad hasta los veteranos, con un programa de entrenamiento integral y competiciones. Tienen muchos entrenadores, desde niños que se prestan como voluntarios fuera de su propio entrenamiento a ex jugadores profesionales que quieren compartir su propia experiencia a la siguiente generación. Las sesiones de entrenamiento se dividen en grupos por edades. Los niños aprenden sobre el juego, las reglas y las habilidades. Aprenderán a correr, atrapar, tirar, patear, comunicarse, escuchar y divertirse mientras lo hacen. Entrenan normalmente de una a tres veces por semana, dependiendo de la edad del niño.

There are many different skill sets involved in a rugby match, getting fitter is just one of them. I’ve been involved in Rugby sports for over 22 years, from fitness

coaching to supporting my husband on his long illustrious rugby career. I personally love the game, I like its structure, its breakdown into different physical elements and I love its disciplines. I introduced my son to Rugby Tots aged just 4 years, and I have never looked back. I have now decided to become more involved Estrecho Rugby Club in Pueblo Nuevo. They have

their own ground and training facilities, and offer rugby training and matches from 4 year old tots to veterans, with a comprehensive training schedule and match fixture. They have many coaches, from young kids volunteering their time outside their own training, to ex-professional players who want to pass on their own experience to the next generation. The training sessions are made up into small aged relevant sections, kids will learn about the game itself, the rules and skills. They will learn to run, catch, throw, kick communicate, listen and have a ton of fun doing so. They offer training normally 1-3 times a week depending on your child’s age. There are various different national training camps that occur throughout the year, where kids with ambition can challenge themselves to learn more and aim higher. Estrecho Rugby Club feels like one big family , many of the children’s

extended families are involved, from the coaching and chaperoning to supplying the the sliced oranges at halftime. It is great to watch kids grow and develop, mature with the game and make you proud on match day when they set up the winning Try or score under the posts. Don’t worry whether you boy or girl knows anything about rugby, don’t worry if they are shy and reserved or attention seeking energy-bombs, the club will aim to bring out the best in your child. The Gecko on the Wall The world of golf through the eyes of Calum McGregor Last month was a golf addicts over indulgent dream month. With the inclusion of The Olympics and The Ryder Cup, this year’s golfing calendar is packed with events and last month was one of the busiest months of all. It started with the Sweden’s Alex Noren claiming his second European Tour victory of the season at The Omega European Masters in Switzerland. The strength from home crowd support was proven yet again when the Dutchman Joost Luiten claimed victory at the KLM Dutch Open and the following week Italian golfer Francesco Molinari was victorious at his home Open picking up his fourth career European Tour title at the Italian Open. Home favourite Azahara Muñoz pipped Beth Allen at the final hole to become the first Spanish winner in the history of

the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino, playing virtually in her own back garden. A Frenchman Alexander Levy won the Porsche European Open and then a week later the most watched golfing event in the world started. Scratch the surface and look just below this hugely televised grand stage and you will see the next generation of golfers who are honing their skills in the dream of making their rookie season debuts. The death of our “King” Arnold Palmer and the birth of Thomas Pieters onto the world wide golfing stage, poignantly illustrate the longevity of golf itself. I am proud to say that I have a few friends playing on the tours just below the main tour, striving to be the next generation and I follow their efforts just as closely. This month it made me proud

to witness my friend from Grantown on Spey Scotland, Big Duncan Stewart, come 5th in the Cordon Golf Open and 4th at the Kazakhstan Open. Big Dunc was also selected to represent Scotland at the World Cup of Golf where he will compete against the defending champions Jason Day and Adam Scott. This month Anton Karlsson, “The Silent Assassin” picked up another top ten finish at a Challenge Tour event alongside Sam Connor and Spain’s Pep Angles at the Volopa Irish Challenge. The greatest test of golf also started in the last month with the first stages of the European Tour Q School. The Q School is a series of tournaments played across Europe, open to any professional golfer in the world. Round one is nine individual tournaments

consisting of approx. 1400 golfers in total. Only the top 20 from each tournament will make it through to the next round of four tournaments to be held in Spain. The top 15 players at the end of the final stage are all given a full card to participate on the main European Tour itself. I am thrilled to see a few of my Friends who use the Costa del Sol as their winter training bases, make it through the first stage. USA wins Ryder Cup 2016 with a thrilling display of golf

he 41st Ryder Cup more than lived up to expectations as the United States clinched its first crown since 2008, winning Sunday singles 7.5-4.5 to capture the cup by a 17-11 margin. The event once again proved why it is one of the most televised sporting events across the globe. Sunday singles, as it’s named, witnessed the finest golfers of Europe going toe to toe with the finest golfers of America and once again golfing fans around the globe were treated to an exhibition of golfing excellence. The Americans led by three points entering the day and pulled away from the Europeans despite some early adversity on Sunday. The first match of the day set the tone, as Patrick Reed and Rory McIlroy thrilled the crowd with an incredible display of golf and emotion on the front nine. Reed pulled ahead on the back nine and hung on for a 1 up victory with a birdie on 18 to give the Americans their first point of the day. Reed-McIlroy was the most emotionally charged match of the day, but the Sergio GarciaPhil Mickelson match turned out to be the best golf played all day. Representing Spain, Sergio Garcia who recently hosted the Spanish Open at Valderamma GC, traded shot for shot with one of the greatest all time American golfers. It was the only match halved on

Sunday as both players shot a 63 with a combined 19 (!) birdies. The match is going to go down in Ryder Cup history as one of the finest ever final day matches. The Europeans won three of the first four matches, as captain Darren Clarke sent out his big dogs early to put points on the board. The Ever cool Swede Henrik Stenson was too strong for Jordan Spieth and secured a second point for the Europeans with a masterclass of golf, as we have come to expect from him. Rookie Thomas Pieters from Belgium came of age, winning his singles match against a very strong JB Holmes and catapulting himself onto the worldwide golfing stage with a Steller Ryder Cup performance. Having only secured his European Tour card a few years ago at Q school the meteoric rise of this young man is testament to how brilliant his game is. Another Ryder Cup Rookie who secured victory on Sunday was the other Spaniard in the team, Rafa Cabrera Bello. Rafa proved that he is a force to be reckoned with when beating this year’s PGA Championship winner Jimmy Walker for the point. However, the depth of the Americans proved to be too much as the United States started to get rolling in the middle of the afternoon, posting win after win until they reached 14 points. From

there, only a half-point was needed to claim the Ryder Cup. It was only fitting that the final, clinching point of the event came from Ryan Moore, the task force's 12th and final captain's selection. Moore put up 2.5 points during the Ryder Cup, including a 1 Up victory over Lee Westwood in which he charged back from a 2 Down deficit with three to play with an eagle-birdie-par finish. The United States is now home to the Ryder Cup for the first time

since 2008, and Davis Love III got his revenge for the 2012 collapse at Medinah. In 2018, The Ryder Cup will be held in Continental Europe for only the second time in its history. Le Golf National in France will be hosting the biennial match on its spectacular L'Albatros course. Situated around 20 miles south west of Paris, the spectacular course is one of the best in the world for spectators and is consistently ranked in Europe’s top ten courses. With two years

to wait for the next instalment of Ryder Cup history, my excitement has already turned to who will be the next breed of rookies. Calum McGregor.

Azahara Muñoz makes history at Tour Championship: Rory McIlroy wins title in Atlanta to claim FedEx Cup home Open

Home favourite Azahara Muñoz pipped Beth Allen at the final hole to become the first Spanish winner in the history of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino, playing virtually in her own back garden. Muñoz fired rounds of 72, 66, 70 and 70 to end with a 72-hole total of 10-under-par and finish one stroke clear of Allen at the gorgeous Aloha Golf Club in Marbella, just a month after becoming the first Spanish woman to tee off in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Fighting back tears and almost overcome with emotion, Muñoz said: “It’s amazing. A victory is always a victory and it’s nice but

winning at home is incredible. You know, having everyone here, my family, my friends, I can’t even describe it.” The 28-year-old, from the nearby town of San Pedro Alcántara, just 10 minutes away from the golf club, claimed her fourth Ladies European Tour title in front of a large gallery of spectators including her parents, friends and family. “It means everything. I love playing at home and finally we got this tournament back and hopefully for many more years. To be able to play here and just sleep at home, it’s amazing. It’s been a hard week and at the beginning of the week I was so stressed out and so anxious and finally, when I got to the first tee on Thursday, I felt so much better. It is amazing to win in front of everybody and so many people came out, so I’m really grateful to them.” There was plenty of drama on the 18th hole as moments earlier, England’s Sophie Walker holed her second shot for eagle from 138 yards using a ‘little’ 7-iron to vault into a share of third position with compatriot Georgia Hall, followed by fellow Englishwoman Florentyna Parker in solo fifth place. Parker birdied two of the last three holes, with fellow LET player Ellie Givens caddying over the weekend. Walker said: “The aim of the game is to get it in the hole, but you never fully expect it. I heard some ‘oohs’ and then I heard the crowd really scream. It’s just an amazing feeling and you can’t think of any better way to finish an event, on the 72nd hole, holing out for eagle. It was probably the best shot I’ve ever hit.” Aditi Ashok from India finished in solo sixth place on three-underpar while fellow LET rookie Olivia Cowan of Germany ended a stroke back in seventh, both rookies recording their career best finish on the LET. England’s Holly Clyburn, Italian Diana Luna and Nanna Koerstz Madsen of Denmark shared eighth on level par.

Rory McIlroy won a play-off to seal victory in the Tour Championship and take the $10m (£7.7m) FedEx Cup prize. The Northern Irishman, 27, rolled in a birdie from 15 feet to edge out Ryan Moore on the fourth play-off hole to win the $1.5m (£1.15m) tournament. The world number three's victory was enough to see him beat US Open champion Dustin Johnson to the FedEx Cup, the PGA Tour's season-long points race and the $10m paycheck. The King is dead, long live the king US golfer Arnold Palmer, viewed as one of the greatest and most influential players in the sport's history, has died at the age of 87. Palmer died at the Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he was undergoing heart tests. During a long career he won more than 90 tournaments worldwide, including seven majors and was hailed as "golf's greatest ambassador" by The US Golf Association. Amongst his peers he was known as “The King of Golf” As tributes flooded in from across the world of golf, Tiger Woods tweeted: "Thanks Arnold for your friendship, counsel and a lot of laughs. Your philanthropy and humility are part of your legend." Palmer attracted thousands of die-hard fans known as "Arnie's army" and helped to promote the game into the television age. The golfer was loved as an everyman superstar, and even had a drink

named after him - the Arnold Palmer cocktail, made from one part iced tea and one part lemonade. He also gave his name to a professional tournament - The Arnold Palmer Invitational, held each March at his private golf resort in Bay Hill, Florida. Caddies Corner Your’s truly was back on the bag for the LET Ladies European Tour event recently held at Marbella’s stunning Aloha golf Club. I had the pleasure of caddying for the French player Alexandra Vilatte Farret, ranked 415th in the world. A solid starting round of -1 (71) put us in 5th place two shots behind the leader. Alex backed that up with a second day score of level par and not only did we make the cut but we were still holding onto our top ten place going into the final two rounds. Fighting to the very end but not getting the rub of the greens we finished in a respectful 31st place out of the field

of 170 of the finest female golfers from around the world. Massive congratulations to Azahara Munoz, who was playing a few groups behind us. Our local hero went on to claim a historic victory and one that I think she will cherish for the rest of her life. The event was a huge success, congratulations to Director Juan Alvarez and his team from Aloha golf. Congratulations to all the players that took part. Manilva Netball Club go from strength to strength

Manilva Netball Team with Manilva Town Hall's Councillor for Foreign Residents, Dean Shelton Manilva Netball Club have now been going for 6 years. They are a group of local ladies that love playing this wonderful game, and would welcome into the club anyone who has played before, or would like to learn to play. They have Spanish speakers, so if there are Spanish or other nationalities that would like to give netball a try, join them at training on Tuesday nights from 6.30 - 8 pm, at Las Viñas Sports Centre, Manilva. The cost is €3 for adults and €2 for students. The first session free so

go and give them a try. The season is from the end of January until the end of May, then from mid September until early December. On an almost monthly basis there is a tournament, either played here in Manilva, or at Laude School, in San Pedro which gives them match practice. Cerca de cuatrocientos participantes formaron parte Locals only winter fishing club de la III Maratón de la Vendimia La tercera edición de la Maratón BTT de la Vendimia fue todo un éxito de participación así como a nivel organizativo. Casi cuatrocientos participantes tomaron la salida neutralizada en la calle Mar en esta prueba puntuable para el circuito provincial malagueño y que fue organizada por la delegación de Deportes, que dirige Agustín Vargas, el Club Ciclista de Manilva, Federación Andaluza de Ciclismo y la Diputación malagueña. En cuanto a la maratón el más rápido en la general fue el ciclista de Ojén Antonio Ortiz, que completo los 64 km de recorrido en 2 horas y 41 minutos. En segunda posición entraba Francisco Javier García, seguido de Fernando González, que fue tercero y a su vez, campeón de la categoría sub23.

Almost four hundred people competed in the Vendimia Mountain Bike Marathon The third edition of the BTT Vendimia Marathon was a success in both terms of participation and organization. Almost four hundred participants took off from calle Mar to compete in the race which counts toward their score for the Malaga provincial circuit and was organized by the department of Sports, headed by Agustin Vargas, the Manilva Cycling Club, Andalucian Cycling

Federation and the Provincial Government of Malaga. As for the fastest marathon time, Ojen native Antonio Ortiz completed the 64 km course in 2 hours and 41 minutes. In second place came Francisco Javier García, followed by Fernando Gonzalez, who was third and in turn, champion of the under-23 category. In the female category Fuengirola cyclist, Fabiola Muñoz, came first

followed by Ileana Lupu. As for the locals, Fran Vazquez crossed the finish line in seventeenth place overall, Francisco González came second in juniors and Laura Oliva achieved second place in the women’s master 30. “Touching distance from Africa” ...coming soon The third and final book in the Rock Hard Caddie Series has been completed. I am pleased to announce that next month I will be publishing my third book that is set in our area. The book that is titled “Touching Distance from Africa” chronicles the highs and lows of my time living in Casares Southern Spain. The book and its adventures are set in the village of Sabinillas, Sotogrande and the Duquesa ports. I travel from Gibraltar to Malaga experiencing my new Spanish life and I write a South African’s perspective on my new home called Andalucia. Touching distance is a love story

that is intertwined with the thrills of tournament golf. It is an inside the ropes look into the Andalucian cultures and lifestyle. A behind the scenes look into a professional golf tour and above all a testament to my goals and my passions. Surprisingly the golf does not take centre stage in this book but more the stories that unfolded around the sport. Stories of triumph over adversity and healing of broken hearts. Sorrow, Glory and heartache. This is the best writing I have ever done and I can’t wait for you to read it.
