Year 10 Drama in Year 10 prepares students for the full range of examined content in the Eduqas Drama course ensuring that students are well prepared for the final GCSE assessments in Year 11. The year begins with an introductory scheme of learning which aims to help students develop strong collaborative relationships with one another, and reminds them of all of the different skills they will need to utilise during the GCSE course. Throughout the year students will be offered opportunities to visit the theatre, to watch digital screenings, and to participate in performances in front of a range of audiences. Component 1 In groups, students will spend time working independently of their teacher to create original pieces of theatre based on a range of theatre styles, genres and stimuli. There will be many opportunities to work on extended pieces of devised theatre, giving students to opportunity to work on projects in groups, taking ownership and responsibility for the success of their group. Alongside the practical element of creating devised piece, students will also be given chance to practice skills in creating a record of work which maps and analyses the devising process. Component 2 At various moments during the year students will experiment with and develop scripted extracts in order to create performance work. The scripts being studied and rehearsed will be taken from a published play script and will focus on the practice of realising a playwright’s intention through the use of performance skills. Students will practise the skill of evaluative writing in order to assess their scripted performance work and prepare for the Component 3 exam. Component 3 Students will explore a set text from the point of view of actor, director and designer. They will experiment with and practically explore the characters, themes and plot lines, whilst also coming up with set design, lighting design and costume design ideas. This study will prepare students for the Component 3 exam which takes place at the very end of the course in Year 11.
