Safeguarding Children As part of their curriculum, the children learn how to keep themselves safe. The following website has been set up by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) to offer parents and schools advice on how to raise safeguarding awareness with children. There is a notable section called ‘The Underwear Rule’ which is of particular support and guidance to parents. The website also offers advice regarding ‘online safety’ and how to obtain support or advice regarding the safeguarding of children. www.nspcc.org.uk

A Message from Ms Hutson Year 2 and 3 PE Jewellery: On the day that your child has PE, please make sure that they do not have any jewellery on. This can be very dangerous, particularly when using equipment, and may result in injury to your child. If you wish for your child to wear earrings, please teach them how to take them out, so that they are not putting themselves at risk during lessons PE Kit: Please also ensure that you send your child in with correct PE kit on the relevant days, even if they are unwell. This includes the INA T-shirt, trousers, socks and trainers (INA purple jumper optional). If children are in school trousers, skirts, tights and school shoes, it is very difficult for them to use their full range of movement and the risk of them falling, slipping and injuring themselves is increased. Injuries: If your child has an injury which will stop them taking part in PE, please write a note stating what the injury is.
A Message from Ms Chaggar Please let the school know in good time if you are sending someone else to collect your child from school. The staff will not send a child home with an adult who has not been authorised by the parents/carers. This is in the interests of safeguarding your children. Thank you for your cooperation.

School Council After tough competition and lots of applications of interest, pupils from Year 2 and Year 3 were invited to prepare a 30 second speech to present in an assembly on Wednesday. They were asked to introduce themselves to the rest of the school, discuss their ideas for making the school even better and explain why they would make a great School Council member. Every pupil delivered a speech to be extremely proud of, but had they done enough to convince everyone else that they were the right people for the job? During the course of the day classes had the opportunity to cast their vote by ticking the picture and name of the person they wanted to choose and placing their vote in the ballot box. After counting up all the votes in the box, we are proud to present our newly elected School Council members to you all, congratulations to the following:
Tara Rani Kaur – Year 3 Gurkirpa Hunjan – Year 3 Ibrahim Ijaz – Year 3 Daniyal Sheikh – Year 3 Tulsi Jogia – Year 3 Mariam Chowdhury – Year 3
Zara Choudhry – Year 2 Meliah Henry – Year 2 Zahir Khan – Year 2 Vishak Muthakumar – Year 2
I am looking forward to my first meeting and I know we are all looking forward to hearing about all the exciting and creative ideas that our School Council will have over the course of the next academic year.

Multicultural Food Fayre & Dress Up Day Friday 20th October
To celebrate the amazing diversity of our school community, we will be holding a Multicultural Food Fayre and Dress Up day on the last day of the half term. To raise funds for the school we are inviting the staff and children to pay ÂŁ1 to wear traditional or cultural dress for the day. The children need to wear clothes that are practical, as they will still need to continue with their day-to-day routines and play. We are also inviting parents/carers to make some cultural food dishes that can they can sell after school in the dining hall to help raise money for the school. It will be great way to share some of your favourite dishes with the rest of the school community. If you make a dish we would ask that you stay to help sell your dish so that you can explain the contents and ingredients to any potential buyers. The Food Fayre will start at 4.00-5.00pm although we would ask parents to be available from 3.30 to help set up etc. There will be more details to follow via letter early next week.

BRIDGES in the Primary Phase “We build too many walls and not enough bridges. Isaac Newton
BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a pupil's character and learning power and enable him/her to grow into a wellrounded individual and resilient learner. There are seven BRIDGES habits that we will be working on, which will rotate on a weekly cycle throughout the year. The BRIDGES habit of the week will always be introduced at the beginning of the week during the Monday assembly and reinforced throughout the week across the curriculum. Each class teacher will award a certificate to a pupil that they feel has demonstrated the BRIDGES focus for the week. Each week we will update you on the BRIDGES habit that will be introduced in the coming week and offer some top tips on how to reinforce the habit at home too. Please also refer to the Primary BRIDGES wheel below.

GRIT
Grit comprises six dispositions: Perseverance Managing Distractions
Resilience Patience
Concentration Determination
At School • At part of our 6 pillars we continuously stress the importance to the children of managing distractions and concentrating during their learning time. • It is essential that from Reception upwards the children become better at managing distractions and demonstrate that they can work on a task for a sustained period of time. • We always encourage a ‘can do’ resilient attitude and talk to the children about the importance of not giving up on a task too easily, even when it presents as a challenge, learning that ‘practice makes perfect’. • We discuss that having patience and trying something again, even though we may find it difficult, will lead to success. We also explain that patience can also mean not having what we want instantly and that sometimes we have to wait our turn.
At Home Encourage your child to try and complete things more independently – when they say they can’t do something, tell them to have a go and to try a little harder. If then they are still completely stuck with a task, offer a small amount of help to get them started. Offer encouragement and praise your child’s effort. Talk to your child about how you learned to do things and how hard some things were for you too but how, through not giving up, being determined and practising you got better.
