Safeguarding Children As part of their curriculum, the children learn how to keep themselves safe. The following website has been set up by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) to offer parents and schools advice on how to raise safeguarding awareness with children. There is a notable section called ‘The Underwear Rule’ which is of particular support and guidance to parents. The website also offers advice regarding ‘online safety’ and how to obtain support or advice regarding the safeguarding of children. www.nspcc.org.uk
School Uniform Purchases The Primary uniform can be purchased through the Khalsa Schoolwear website or can be bought at Khalsa Schoolwear shop in Bethnal Green. To save on the cost of delivery charges, Khalsa Schoolwear does a school delivery once every month. You can find further details of the delivery dates on their website or you can ask the reception office staff. Khalsa Schoolwear will also be selling the school uniform in the Secondary school on Tuesday 25th July whereby you can try on items for size and will be entitled to a ‘start of term’ discount.

From Tam Broadway – Primary Headteacher It was great to see so many of you at the coffee morning this week. We had a good number of parents from each year group represented. We spent some time discussing swimming lessons for Year 2 and Year 3 from September, the music curriculum, and the introduction of Spanish to some year groups next year too. We shared our results from Early Years, Year 1 phonics and the Key Stage 1 SATs results. There was also some time to celebrate the successes of the year and discuss what we can do to continue to make INAP even better going forward. Notes from the coffee morning will be sent out next week; thank you for your support.
A Message from Ms Chaggar The powerpoint that was shared during the Wisepay Lunches presentation is available for parents to view on the website under the ‘Community’ tab and ‘Resources for Parents’.
Lost Blazers We have had a few parents in recent weeks telling us that their child has lost their blazer. We ask first of all that you check with your child’s teacher and the lost property box in the office. Could we kindly ask you all to check your child’s blazer in case they have taken the wrong one home in error. Can we also remind you that it is very important to label your child’s clothing and check this after a number of washes, having their name inside their clothes helps enormously in getting items back to their owners.

Dear Primary Parents... I am delighted to inform you that all of our current staff will be with us next academic year. We do have some new colleagues joining us though, due to the additional year group.I should like to take this opportunity to introduce you to two such new starters: Ms Akinmolasire, Teaching Assistant I am delighted to be joining you at Isaac Newton Academy in September as a teaching assistant. I am really excited to be part of such a hardworking and dedicated team. I am currently working at Woodlands primary school. I am a learning support assistant and I am based in upper stage two. I am looking forward to working with children both in key stage one and two. A bit about myself: My family are originally from Nigeria. I have grown up in the east end of London. I attended secondary school in Newham. I completed my GCSES at St Angela’s Ursuline school in Forest Gate. I attended St Angela’s and Bonaventure’s sixth form centre where I studied A levels. After sixth form I moved to the West Midlands and attended Coventry University. I studied Politics. During the course, I developed a keen interest in social history. It is amazing to see how Ilford has changed over the years. I have many hobbies; my favourite is reading. My favourite children’s author is Roald Dahl. Roald Dahl is a phenomenal story teller! His books are entertaining, full of jokes, new inventions and loveable characters. Charlie and the chocolate factory is my favourite children’s book. Last year, I went to watch, Charlie the musical. It was amazing! I felt like the book had been brought to life. I am truly honoured to be joining you at INA in September. I am looking forward to lots of fun and creative lessons.

Ms Short, Year Leader & Teacher I am really looking forward to joining the team at Isaac Newton Academy as a class teacher and Year Team Leader this September. I already feel hugely welcomed and inspired by the school community and look forward to working alongside the pupils and their parents throughout the year. I have worked as a primary teacher in East London for the past three years and have greatly enjoyed the exciting challenges and opportunities that teaching offers. Prior to my involvement in teaching and schools, I worked in a children’s residential home and as the manager of a tuition centre in Barking. I have also actively volunteered for organisations such as The National Autistic Society, Limited Resource Teacher Training and Nightline. I am a huge advocate for engaging children in their education through the provision of holistic, enrichment-focused learning. I value the importance of supporting children’s development of social and emotional skills as well as instilling high expectations for academic effort. As such, I am very excited about being a part of Isaac Newton Academy where the values of enrichment, growth mindset and high expectations for all pupils are central to the school’s teaching and learning. During my spare time, I am an avid reader, often getting through two or three books each week! I am also very active and enjoy sports such as tag rugby and badminton. I look forward to meeting you in September next year and am very excited about the year ahead

Summer Fayre We are busy planning for the Summer Fayre on Wednesday 19th July. We would like to ask you to bring in any second hand toy donations. Any donations must be in good working order, in their complete condition and clean so that they can be sold or raffled off on the day. We have also been asked by a number of parents about what to do with items of uniform that the children have outgrown and which are still in excellent condition. We therefore ask you you to bring in any items of used uniform that could be sold on a stall at the Summer Fayre. Thanks you in advance for any donations of toys or uniform.

Year 3 & Year 2 Swimming Payments Some time ago, parents asked if we could arrange swimming lessons for the children. After sending out a questionnaire at the time and gathering feedback it was very clear that swimming lessons were something our parents and carers believed were an important life skills that we should add to our curriculum. We are delighted that have been able to get this up and running and that from September both Year 2 & 3 pupils will receive a weekly lesson for a term, each class across the year group on a rotation. Letters have been sent out detailing the cost and times etc. Letters will need to be returned promptly and payments made according to the deadlines for each class for the school to continue with the bookings.

BRIDGES in the Primary Phase “We build too many walls and not enough bridges. Isaac Newton
BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a pupil's character and learning power and enable him/her to grow into a wellrounded individual and resilient learner. There are seven BRIDGES habits that we will be working on, which will rotate on a weekly cycle throughout the year. The BRIDGES habit of the week will always be introduced at the beginning of the week during the Monday assembly and reinforced throughout the week across the curriculum. Each class teacher will award a certificate to a pupil that they feel has demonstrated the BRIDGES focus for the week. Each week we will update you on the BRIDGES habit that will be introduced in the coming week and offer some top tips on how to reinforce the habit at home too. Please also refer to the Primary BRIDGES wheel below.

Integrity Integrity comprises six dispositions: Citizenship Honesty
Justice Fairness
Humility Humanity
At School
• At school we encourage the pupils to make sure they play in a kind and thoughtful way and ensure that they include others in their games. Games where ‘turn-taking’ is needed are great at helping the children to understand that everyone has fair turn. • It is also important that the children learn how to win and lose a game graciously and show humility when they win or congratulate the winner and say well done if they lose. • The children need to learn and understand the importance of telling the truth even when it feels uncomfortable when we have to admit that we have done something wrong. They also need to learn to take responsibility for their actions and not get into a habit of blaming others. It is important that the children have a moral sense of right and wrong. • Each half term the class teacher chooses two ambassadors to help the pupils develop their citizenship skills and by helping with jobs in their class or at lunchtimes. • We encourage every child to help keep the school environment clean by clearing away plates or cups after lunch or tidying up their own table place after activities in class.
At Home
Talk to your child about how they can be a good citizen within their community, by not dropping litter etc. Talk about what is fair and encourage your child to help out at home with tidying their room or books away so that they develop a sense of responsibility and respect towards theirs and others’ property. Reinforce the message about always telling the truth and why this is important. When you are reading stories together with your child, discuss characters, their behaviour and moral decision and whether they are good or bad characters and why. What should the character have done instead? etc. 14 July 2017
