COASTAL GEORGIA READS BELOVED Golden Isles Arts & Humanities in partnership with our local libraries and sponsors presents the NEA Big Read, which will kick off First Friday, February 4, in downtown Brunswick. Two months of unique and varied Big Read programming that includes something for everyone will follow in various locations. This year’s chosen novel is Beloved by Toni Morrison. It has been described as a “wholly unique reading experience – part ghost story, part romance, part domestic drama, part gripping chronicle of enslavement” in which Morrison “humanizes the historical record through the lives of specific individuals.” A complete schedule of events and NEA Big Read Resource Guide will be available on the Golden Isles Arts & Humanities website in the Big Read section under the Programs tab at goldenislesarts.org. MEMORY MATTERS RECEIVES GRANT The Georgia Alzheimer’s Foundation recently presented Memory Matters Glynn with a $60,000 grant to support its mission of supporting, educating and enriching the lives of individuals dealing with memory issues and the people who care for them. This amount represents proceeds from local fundraisers including the Golden Isles Alzheimer’s Walk that took place in September. Foundation Director Andrea Mickelson said, “It is so important for those living with cognitive issues to remain social and know their purpose and for caregivers to feel supported and know they are not alone.” For more information about Memory Matters Glynn, visit memorymattersglynn.com PICTURED: Andrea Mickelson, Gail Cowan, Brooke Baskin, Yolanda Neely, John Hartland, Julie Tharpe, Jordan Andrew
