4TH OF JULY FESTIVITIES The Sunshine Festival 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run hosted by the Golden Isles Track Club kicks off Independence Day on St. Simons Island. The 5K Race starts 7:00 a.m. and the 1 Mile Fun Run begins at 8:00 a.m. at Mallery Park. Register online at SunshineFestivalofRaces5K1mile.itsyourrace. com. Onsite registration and packet pick up is Monday July 3rd, 2-6:00 p.m. at St. Simons Presbyterian Church. The annual Arts & Crafts show will take place at Postell Park July 1-4 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Evening entertainment will include live music by Backbeat Boulevard at Neptune Park from 7:00-10:30 p.m. with a break for the fireworks at the pier at 9:00 p.m.

Red, White & Bounce will take place from 12:00-6:00 p.m. in Beach Village with a fun-filled afternoon of water slides, bounce houses, sidewalk sales & live music on the Village Green. Fireworks begin around 9:00 p.m. and are best viewed from the oceanfront side of the island on the beach between the Holiday Inn Resort and Days Inn.
On Jekyll Island, begin the day at 9:00 a.m. by celebrating America’s birthday with an oldfashioned patriotic parade through the Historic
Brunswick’s Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration takes place in Mary Ross Waterfront Park starting at 7:00 p.m. on July 4th. There will be
free watermelon slices for everyone, music in the air, and plenty of old-fashioned games for all ages like sack races, water balloon tossing, and hula hoop contests, along with prizes for the winners. At dark, a spectacular fireworks display explodes over the East River to the strains of patriotic music. Presented by the City of Brunswick and Golden Isles Arts and Humanities.
CELEBRATE SEUSS WITH YPSW The Young People’s Summer Workshop (YPSW) has been an Island Players tradition since 1975.
The YPSW introduces 60-80 local children ages 8 and up to various aspects of theater and performance. Many children who started their stage experience with the YPSW have pursued their love of theater through high school and community drama clubs, gone on to college for theater/ drama degrees, and are now working at theaters
nationwide. This year’s YPSW production is Seussical Jr. Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, and other favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Two casts rotate duties for the performances with showtimes at 7:30 p.m. on July 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 21 and 22, and 3:30 matinees on July 16 and 23. Tickets are available at the box office before the show.
