Concept Thoughts
A SUSTAINABLE WEDDING DRESS? Conscious by the end journey of rental bridal gowns, Astrid sources sustainable fabric options, ranging from biodegradable to deadstock considerations. Fabric sourcing is, however, limited to what is potentially available in Singapore, excluding overseas sourcing for a more practical setting. Flip this card
EMBELLISHMENTS FROM WASTE This bridal collection is concerned with the massive amount of textile offcuts produced during the cutting and making of the gown. Such offcuts are highly irregular and small, thus thrown away without consideration. Astrid bridal collection integrates and utilizes all offcuts from production to create delicate and suitable embellishments through careful consideration, tessellation, and manipulation.

Base Tessellation Geometric Shapes
This base template is not necessarily used for all fabric offcuts as different offcuts were different in shapes and sizes.
Fabric Manipualtion & Tesellation Type 1
Geometric Waste Cuts
Each offcut piece is soldered to geometric cuts that are then gathered and manipulated to form a variety of embellishments.
e.g.
x4
Handstitch all 4 triangles loosely.
Flip inside out before pulling the gathering stitches.
Pull the gathering stitches and form the fabric embellishment.
Fabric Manipualtion & Tesellation Type 2
Manipulation Techniques
These 2 types of manipulation can be applied to any geometric shape with additional to no cutting after gathering. e.g.
x1
Handstitch a diamond shaped stitch loosely and pull the gathering stitches.
Pull the gathering stitches and form the fabric embellishment.
TIMELESS CUTS ON BIAS Astrid's bridal capsule collection consists of timeless silhouettes derived from historical and modern styling and designs. At the same time, cut based on the geometry of the body lines and made on the bias (45°). Such cuts allow the gowns to naturally cling and flow with the wearer without any corsets or boning to accentuate the feminine figure.
3D Simulation of Bias Cuts Geometric Shapes
Astrid utilised 3D software to visualise and simulate how each design will drape over the body contours when the fabrics are on the bias to reduce the amount of mockup wastage. Bias fabrics are also highly stretchable and unstable, resulting in slightly different fits despite being cut from the same paper patterns.
