DROP 01

Clean any dirt size comfortably DROP 01’s powerful suction helps to capture all large debris as well as fine dust on any surfaces. With its organic curved handle, you will be able to hold DROP 01 at any angle without difficulty.

Focused bin, better aim With the elongated curve shape of the bin, there will be less mess with inaccurate aiming. Dirt will be guided directly into chute. No more having dirty hands from picking up fallen dust on the floor.

Wireless charging & storage 2-in-1 Just put DROP 01 into the charging dock and press the dock’s button once. Its magnetic wireless charging strip will click your vacuum in place and start charging. DROP 01’s LED will light up after it is fully charged.

Final model’s development 1

4

I did multiple changes on Rhino regarding the final form and the handle. Since I did a study model to see the proportions which followed my original sketches, I realised they were huge and looked unstable. After the consultation, Ka Wai said that the form of having the handle flipped in looks quite interesting so I tried to develop further from there.

I showed Ka Wai the developed model in which he told me to make the body “flows” with the handle and make it look more symmetrical in terms of the droplet shape.

I still wanted to keep my handle as a “focus” point of my design but not overpowering the whole form like my study model. I went into dropleys looking shape as I realised I kept gravitating towards very organic forms. However, I kept my handle’s edges sharp which I thought looks quite cool given the constrasting form of it. (Perhaps I was looking at it for too long and was not considering about the ergonomics as well.)

Final Model

Reflection Project 1 has been quite a fruitful journey for me. I learnt so much more things like manufacturing process, colors (which will affect how it feels / looks at first glance). It is not just about creating forms but also takeing the users and manufacturers’ processes into considerations. The structure will affect the design, materiality and cost. I struggled with the model’s proportions a bit as what we see on the screen is so much smaller than in real life. When I made my first mock-up model, it was too big and awkward for a handheld vacuum cleaner. I had to replan and reorganize my components to downscale my model which is suitable for someone living in a small apartment. I feel that time management is also something I should really reflect on, I started before recess week which was early considering the deadline got extended. However, somehow, I still had to rush even on the week of the deadline itself. I have to properly plan my days for the next assignment. (Q_Q)
