Philadelphia Junior Tour at the Boys Junior PGA Championship
The 42nd Boys Jr. PGA Championship was held July 31- August 3, 2017 at The Country Club of St. Albans in St. Albans, Missouri. The 144 player field, expanded from previous years, included some of the top junior boys in the country. Players qualified for the event either by exemption or through their local PGA section championship. Both the Philadelphia Section PGA and Philadelphia Junior Tour were well represented at the championship with 4 players from the section in the field. Carson Bacha (York, PA), Joe Parrini (York, PA), Benjamin Pochet (Royersford, PA) and Kyle Vance (Audobon, PA) were the PJT members in attendance at CC of St. Albans. Vance, who qualified for this year’s championship through his performance last year, finished the tournament in 69th place with a total of 301 (+13). Vance started his tournament off with rounds of 74 (+2) and 72 (E) to make the cut. He finished off the tournament with rounds of 73 (+1) and 82 (+10). Vance was the 2016 Boys’ Philadelphia Jr. PGA Champion. Bacha and Parrini both finished the tournament in a tie for 23rd place with totals of 285 (+3). Bacha got off to a fast start in the tournament firing rounds of 72 (E) and 66 (-6) to vault him up the leaderboard heading into the final rounds. Bacha completed his final two rounds with 74 (+2) and 73 (+1). Parrini had a steady start to his tournament with rounds of 73 (+1) and 72 (E). A third day surge up the leaderboard was powered by a 67 (-5). Parrini finished with a final round 73 (+1). Pochet finished in third place in the PPGA Boys Junior PGA Championship and was awarded an at-large bid to participate in the Championship. Pochet fired back to back rounds of 81 (+9) to miss the cut by a only few shots.
On Monday, August 14, 2017, the Philadelphia Junior Tour held its year end Junior Tour Championship at Commonwealth National Golf Club in Horsham, PA. 82 juniors tried to end their season on a high note and capture the Graham Cup on a nearly perfect August day. The day started off with a little bit of drama in the 12 and Under Division. Ethan Trinh (Plainsboro, NJ) carded a round of 38 (+2). Trinh had a solid start to his round with two birdies through his first five holes. Trinh’s score was looking like it would hold up until the final group turned their cards in. Nicholas Gross (Downingtown, PA) also carded a round of 38 (+2). Gross had a steady nine holes, recording par on eight of them. With the two tied at +2, a sudden death playoff was in order. Both Trinh and Gross would both make par on the first hole, so extra holes would decide the tie. Gross would eventually come out on top, making a birdie on the second hole. Austin Barbin (Elkton, MD) was the early leader in the club house in the Boys 13-18 Division with a round of 69 (-2). Barbin carded an impressive 32 on his front nine, courtesy of four birdies. Barbin’s clubhouse lead would soon be matched by Caleb Ryan (Norristown, PA) also with a round of 69 (-2). A few would get close as the afternoon went by but Barbin and Ryan were alone at the top and headed to a playoff. With a birdie on the first playoff hole, Barbin would claim the Overall Boys title. The Girls 13-18 Division would come down to the final group of the day. Christina Carroll (Bear, DE) led the field early with a round of 81 (+10). Carroll had a strong finish to her round carding 38 (+2) on her final nine holes. However, Elizabeth Beek (Blue Bell, PA) capped the day off with the low girls round of 73 (+2). Beek got off to a hot start, going 2-under through the first two holes. She kept the momentum going with a strong finish, playing her final nine holes even par to seal her title.

11TH ANNUAL JON M. PRITSCH CUP
Philadelphia PGA Wins the Jon M. Pritsch Cup
The 11th Annual Jon M. Pritsch Cup took place on Friday, August 11 at Sunnybrook Golf Club in Plymouth Meeting, PA. The Pritsch Cup matches 12 Philadelphia Junior Tour members against 12 New Jersey PGA members in a Ryder-Cup style format. Player’s earn their spot on the team by positioning themselves atop the Player of the Year points list and great play throughout the season. Going into 2017 the Philadelphia Junior Tour team had momentum after winning the Cup in 2015 and battling their way to retain the Cup in 2016. The 2017 team would try to keep the Cup in Philadelphia for at least one more year. Philadelphia was able to take leads in many matches through the first six holes. However, New Jersey wasn’t going down without a fight as they tightened things up through 12. The Philadelphia Junior Tour team showed great team unity winning all six four-ball team matches on their way to a 14.5-3.5 win keeping the Cup.
The Jon M. Pritsch Cup is played to honor the memory of Jon M. Pritsch who tragically passed away in May of 1991 at the age of 17. Before his passing, Pritsch was recognized as one of the top junior golfers in the nation. To date the Jon M. Pritsch Memorial Fund has raised over $200,000 and given away over 100 scholarships to juniors looking to pursue a career in a golf related field.

JGS Pocono Series Recap The Philadelphia Junior Tour kicked off its annual northern trek for three rounds of the JGS Pocono Series. 2017 marked the 10th time that the series has been contested.
Monday, August 14—Country Club of Scranton The series opened with 27 golfers taking to the course at the beautiful Country Club of Scranton. Corbin Babyak (Tafton, PA) got his week started on the right foot with an impressive one-under-par 71 to win the Boys 16-18 Division. Martin Cryan (Roaring Brook Twp, PA) played a solid and consistent round of golf, finishing the day with a 76 (+4) and the win in the Boys 13-15 Division. Emma Nemitz (Madison Township, PA) shot a 100 (+28) to win the series opener in the Girls 16-18 Division. Amanda Schuebel (King of Prussia, PA) took home the win in the Girls 13-15 Division with a 110 (+38). The 12 & Under Division title went to Michael Maslanka (Taylor, PA) after he carded a 38 (+3).
Tuesday, August 15—Valley Country Club Day two of the series took place at Valley Country Club in Sugarloaf, PA with 30 players in the field. In his first career PJT tournament, Shane Angle (Mountain Top, PA) carded a 73 (+3) for a three shot victory in the Boys 16-18 Division. Benjamin Galko (Roaring Brook, PA) earned his first career win in the Boys 13-15 Division with an 84 (+13). Isabella McCloskey (Princeton Junction, NJ) carded an 88 (+17) for a one shot victory in the Girls 16-18 Division. Amanda Schuebel (King of Prussia, PA) shot a 116 (+45) and finished on top in the Girls 13-15 Division. For the second consecutive day, Michael Maslanka posted a sub -40 round in the 12 & Under Division and placed first with a front nine score of 39 (+4).
Wednesday, August 16—Elmhurst Country Club The series wrapped up on Wednesday, August 17 at Elmhurst Country Club in Moscow, PA. The Boys 16-18 Division was led by Alex Pillar (Hawley, PA), who came in with a strong 74 (+2). In the Boys 13-15 Division, William Pabst (Roaring Brook Township, PA) took home gold after a strong round of 71 (-1). Grace Hickey (Downingtown, PA) shot an 89 (+17) and won a scorecard playoff to finish the week with a win in the Girls 16-18 Division.
