PJT AT THE GIRLS JR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP
Philadelphia Junior Tour at the Girls Jr. PGA Championship
The 42nd Girls Jr. PGA Championship was held July 18-21, 2017 at The Country Club of St. Albans in St. Albans, Missouri. The 144 player field, expanded from previous years, included some of the top junior girls in the country. Players qualified for the event either by exemption or through their local PGA section championship. Both the Philadelphia Section PGA and Philadelphia Junior Tour were well represented at the championship with 4 players from the section in the field. Phoebe Brinker (Wilmington, DE), Kaitlyn Lees (Bryn Mawr, PA), Jennifer Cleary (Wilmington, DE) and Rylie Heflin (Avondale, PA) were the PJT members in attendance at CC of St. Albans. Phoebe Brinker finished her week with a 72-hole total of 287 (-1) and a tie for 26th place. Brinker’s third round 69, which included five birdies on the front to go out in 31, was her low round for the week. Brinker had the highest finish of the four PJT members. Kaitlyn Lees ended the tournament in a tie for 49th, up nine spots from round 3, with a round of 73 (+1) and a 72-hole total of 297 (+9).Lees was the winner of the Philadelphia Girls Jr. PGA Championship at Penn Oaks Golf Club (West Chester, PA) earlier in July. Her low round of the week came in round 1 with a 71 (-1). Jennifer Cleary (Wilmington, DE) completed the tournament in a tie for 65th and a 72hole score of 305 (+17). Cleary recorded a round 1 score of 70 (-2) with five birdies on the card. The round was her lowest of the week. Cleary also had two eagles on the card during her second round 75 (+3). Rylie Heflin (Avondale, PA) finished the first two rounds with a total of 151 (+7). Although Heflin missed the cut by only a few shots, she will be a strong contender to find herself in next year’s field with 4 years of eligibility still remaining.

FINISH YOUR SWING
Finish Your Swing It’s not uncommon to for an instructor to direct their student to “finish your swing.” In fact, the golf swing is really not finished until a player has done their part for course care. When a player takes a divot, the shot isn’t finished until the divot is replaced and their ball mark is fixed on the green. It is always a good policy to be sure that you leave the course in better condition than when you found it. Below are a few ways of doing this:
Fix at least two ball marks on each green
Replace your divots in the fairway (remember to include any divots
you may have taken on practice swings)
Rake any foot prints you leave in bunkers
It is very important that we show respect to the facilities that give us the opportunity to have tournaments at their facilities. Course conditions following PJT events are an important consideration when our host facilities are deciding to host the PJT in the future. Leaving a course in poor condition, with many unfixed ball marks and unfilled divots could cause a facility to decide not to host a PJT event in the future. Please do your part for course care!
1. You may spit on your clubface before playing a shot to clean it, but not if you're trying to reduce spin to hit a straighter shot. DECISION 4-2/4 2. If your shot ends up in the clubhouse, and the clubhouse is not considered out-of-bounds, you may open a window or door and play your next shot without penalty. DECISION 24-2b/14 3. If your ball comes to rest next to a cactus, you may wrap an arm or leg in a towel to protect yourself from the needles when you play your shot. But you can't cover the cactus with a towel. DECISION 12/10 4. If your club head falls off during the backswing, and you complete the swing but miss the ball, it doesn't count as a stroke. But if your club head falls off during the downswing, and you complete the swing but miss the ball, it counts as a stroke. DECISIONS 14/2, 14/3 5.
