15-3a Wrong Ball What’s it all about? Rule 15-3a states if a player makes a stroke at a wrong ball in match play he loses the hole. If the player and opponent exchange balls during the play of the hole, the first to make a stroke at a wrong ball loses the hole; when this cannot be determined, the hole must be played out with the balls exchanged. In stroke play, if a competitor makes a stroke at a wrong ball , he incurs a penalty of two strokes. The competitor must correct his mistake by playing the correct ball or by proceeding under the Rules. If he fails to correct his mistake before the teeing ground or, in the case of the last hole of the round, fails to declare his intention to correct his mistake before leaving the putting green, he is disqualified.
How does it work? Strokes made by a competitor with a wrong ball do not count in his score. If the wrong ball belongs to another competitor, its owner must place a ball on the spot from which the wrong ball was first played (in stroke play). The exception of this rule is if a competitor makes a stroke at a wrong ball that is moving in water in a water hazard there is no penalty. Any strokes made at a wrong ball moving in water in a water hazard do not count in the Does this fence competitor’s score. Rule 15-3a In Action:

Tim and John are playing a par three and they both hit their balls in the bunker. Without looking Tim hits a ball out of the bunker and Tim and John play out the hole. Tim gets to the next tee and hits his tee shot. When he was about to hit his approach shot, Tim realized that he was hitting the wrong ball. Tim tells John that they have switched balls and he acknowledges that they must go back to the previous hole, where he will play from the spot where his ball was and incur a 2 stroke penalty. The two players go back to the previous hole and play out their round. Did Tim correctly use rule 15-3a? Answer: No, under rule 15-3a once the competitor makes a stroke or strokes at a wrong ball and does not successfully correct the error by the time they tee off on the next hole, that person is disqualified. Why is Rule 15-3a Important? Understanding rule 15-3a can save a competitors round by acknowledging the fact that the player has mistakenly hit the incorrect ball. Correcting this error will save the player from disqualification. It is very important to make sure all competitors identify their ball on the first tee to avoid a situation like this.

REHOBOTH BEACH SERIES RECAP
JGS Rehoboth Beach Series Recap The Philadelphia Junior Tour made its annual trip to the Delaware beaches once again for the JGS Rehoboth Beach Series. The two-day series began on Monday, June 18 and ended with a Jr. PGA Championship qualifier on Wednesday, June 20.
Day One—Rehoboth Beach Country Club 39 junior golfers made their way to Rehoboth Beach Country Club for day one of the JGS Rehoboth Beach Series. The Boys 16-18 Division title belonged to Tyler Wassell (Lancaster, PA) after carding a 76 (+4). Matthew Homer (Wilmington, DE) also shot a 76 (+4) to win the Boys 13-15 Division, and coming in 1 shot behind Matt was his brother, Jeffrey Homer (Wilmington, DE), to finish in second place. Olivia Perry (Millsboro, DE) took home the top spot in the Girls 16-18 Division with a round of 85 (+13). In the Girls 13-15 Division, Paige Richter (Camp Hill, PA) also shot an 85 (+13) to win her division. In the 12 & Under division, Jack Homer (Wilmington, DE) came in first place after shooting a 44 (+8). Day Two—Kings Creek Country Club Day two of the JGS Rehoboth Beach Series was spent at Kings Creek Country Club, just down the round from Rehoboth Beach Country Club. 25 junior golfers battled through hot temperatures on a short but challenging golf course.
Day Three—Bayside Resort Golf Club Before the Junior Tour headed back to Philadelphia, one more event was held at Bayside Resort Golf Club for a Junior PGA Championship qualifier. The top 1/3 of the Boys 13-18 field earned a spot to play in the Philadelphia Junior PGA Championship on Monday, July 9. Players also competed for Player of the Year points in the usual PJT divisions. With the low round of the day, Jake Maddaloni (Newtown Square, PA) carded a 76 (+4) to win the Boys 13-15 Division. In the Boys 16-18 Division, Nicholas Covey (Easton, MD) and Christopher Vonhof (Georgetown, DE) tied for first place with rounds of 79 (+7). Jona Angela Magcalayo (Philippines) won the Girls 16-18 Division with a round of 82 (+10). Jack homer (Wilmington, DE) won the 12 & Under Division for the second time in the series with a 41 (+5).

In the Boys 16-18 Division, Colby Hook (Selbyville, DE) won first place after carding an 80 (+9). Olivia Perry (Millsboro, PA) grabbed the first place prize in the Girls 16-18 Division after posting an impressive 80 (+9). Riley Quartermain (Bryn Mawr, PA) also shot an 80 (+9) to win the Girls 13 -15 Division. In the 12 & Under Division, Sawyer Brockstedt ran away with the title after a round of 41 (+6).
