Black Chiney 8 – 2004; Willy Chin Again – 2006 and Black Chiney 8.9 – 2008.

‘Willy Chin’ was introduced to the technological aspect of digital manipulation of music by another influential person in his career, his cousin, Nicholas Lyon. By 2000, this exposure soon fueled Willy’s obsession with remixing and he became later known as the ‘Remix King’. In 2003 he released his first mix tape, Willy Chin Volume One, which lead to a critical turning point in his musical career as a DJ. Not long after, he was recognized internationally for his mix tapes that landed in countries such as Bahamas, Jamaica and St. Lucia.

‘Willy Chin’s’ passion for the music is synonymous with his passion for travelling. The musical exploits of this globetrotter have taken him to various cities in North America, Europe, Asia and Caribbean. More specifically his tours have facilitated trips to, the USA; Canada; Japan; Germany; Italy; Belize; England; Amsterdam; Belgium; the majority of islands in the English speaking Caribbean and Guadeloupe. Garnering extensive exposure and developing an appreciation of the diverse world cultures, ‘Willy Chin’ is proud to be able to share the Jamaican music and culture with his global fan base.

This pivotal point in his career was anchored by his performance at Next Level Entertainment Group’s ‘Summer Splash 2003’ in Montego Bay Jamaica, which took him to higher levels as far as his social standings within ‘Black Chiney’. Shortly after this performance, ‘Black Chiney’ developed a new respect for ‘Willy Chin’ and his exceptional talent. They recognized his talent and decided to recruit him in order to make their team much stronger. A few months later, in December 2003, this remix genius became an official member of ‘Black Chiney’.

In addition, other mix tapes produced by Willy Chin include,

As a child during his idyllic years growing up he listened to ‘Supa Dups’ playing on a popular radio station in Miami. At his cousin’s request he would record the shows at home on a cassette player. Willy credits this exercise for subconsciously teaching him about mixing music and song selection and by age 10 he had made a conscious decision to become a DJ. His love and zeal for music continued to grow while working at a local music store, Light and Sound Equipment (LASE) during the day and as DJ at night. LASE, a family owned business, helped ‘Willy Chin’ to develop a keen

Surrounded by music for most of his life it was no surprise when Willy Chin set up CLab Studios in 2004, where he now spends almost all of his time except when he’s busy jet-setting across the world. More recently ‘Willy Chin’ has established his record label - Chin of Chin and since then has launched his single on that label – Look in your eyes. in the midst of it all, he does make time for cooking up a storm; - another of his secret delights. The extraordinary encyclopedic knowledge of this world renowned Selector, DJ Remixer, Producer; Song-writer and now budding Recording Artiste, alludes to a combustible career that is no doubt unstoppable. With not even the sky attempting to limit the robust potential of this young man, his future is as dazzling as he is poised for greatness.

orn in Florida to Jamaican parents, this 25 yearold musical dynamo has stayed true to his strong Jamaican roots, Chinese heritage and his passion for reggae music. Legally Warren Hoo, but popularly known as ‘Willy Chin Remix’ or simply ‘Willy Chin’, launched his solo DJ career 6 years before joining infamous sound ‘Black Chiney’. Debuting at the early age of 13, he played alongside his uncle and cousin at various events including weddings, anniversaries, office and house parties to highlight a few. Throughout his career ‘Willy Chin’ has been blessed with consistent support from his family, particularly from his relatives in the music industry who recognized his talent and encouraged him in all his musical endeavors. This positive motivation from his mentors such as his uncle Paul Chin who started ‘Cosmic Force’; cousin ‘Supa Dups’ who started ‘Black Chiney’; guitarist Mitchum ‘Khan’ Chin who has played for artistes including Beres Hammond, Chakka Demus & Pliers, Buju Banton and Sizzla; and computer genius Nick Vyrux, propelled ‘Willy Chin’ to new musical heights.

This Sagittarian, now a rising entrepreneur, is most proud of keeping pace with the music and technological developments in the industry. His career thus far has taken him on a remarkable journey through an array of genres enabling him to boast a personal repertoire of his favorite ‘one-drop’ Reggae tunes; Dancehall; Hip-Hop; Soca; Calypso; Salsa; Meringue; Country; R &B; 60’s; 70’s; 80’s; Rock & Roll and much more.

Like any other job you have to start from the ground up. Linx started off hosting a high school fashion show which then followed him to his co-op placement at CFMU 93.3 FM where he was offered a show ‘The Hour of 4Play’ which was a campus radio show dedicated to College/ University students in the Hamilton area. Little did he know that the windows of opportunity were just waiting to be opened. From that, Linx and his friends developed their own group, Champion Sound Crew. The show ‘The Hour of 4Play’ proved to be a catalyst, whereby club owners and promot-

Tonic Nightclub in the Sheridan Hotel was where Set It Off Saturdays was launched—it featured Linx alongside DJ Shan and Mr. Muzz.Tonic had become the #1 urban Saturday night in the tri-city area—stretching from Hamilton, Kitchener, Waterloo and St Catherines. From the six years within Tonic Lounge, Linx prophetically establishes that “MC wasn’t just a hobby anymore, it became a lifestyle.” The next phase was about to begin… From that point Linx was recognized by promoters and DJ’s from across Canada. He had become a club favourite, and doing bigger events such as Fundraisers, Charity Events, Corporate Events, and Concerts. Linx has worked with big name artists such as, Collie Buddz, Mr Vegas, Ne-Yo, Janet Jackson, Baby Cham,Tony Matterhorn, Elephant Man, Kardinal Offishall, OB and many more. From the artist and concert perspective it was a whole new level of hosting; however his passion was nightlife and the DJ collaborations. Linx has an impressive resume with working with big time DJ’s in the game such as, Chinese Assassin, DJ Shan, DJ Wristpect, Starting From Scratch, Baba Kahn, One Touch, Dr Jay, MarXman, Kid Finese, DJ D’Lux, Verse One, DJ Divsa, Soca101, Baby Yu, DJ Deuce, Pentium Sound Crew, DJ Clymaxxx, and many more. Working with these entire top rated DJ’s all across the world, has truly allowed Linx to gain invaluable hosting skills to adapt to every genre of music and deejay style. In addition, Linx has released a track called ‘Whole Town’s Talking’ featuring OB and Tommy Knox, which has been featured on Flow 93.5 and many other big radio stations, which can also be heard on his myspace page at, www.myspace.com/linx_csc. As well, Linx has stepped into the corporate aspects of hosting, with professional areas of mixtape hosting, corporate events, DJ drops, and commercial ads, which he is now one of the most demanded voices in Ontario. Today, Linx says, “what inspires me to do what I need to do, is being better, stronger, and more versatile at what I do. Regardless of anything, keep striving for your passion, because, growing up and having a stuttering problem, hosting has helped conquer my insecurities with my speech and confidence overall as an MC.” Lastly, Linx mentions about keeping positive people around him all the time. Linx also mentions that for any aspiring MC’s out there you always need strive to your full potential never ever let anyone put you down. This is a tough industry to get into and one of the easiest to get out, but once you’re in it you never want to leave. Remember one thing everything starts from the bottom up.The smallest thing to get your name mentioned will seem insignificant but in the long run you’ll look back and it will all make sense. Being in the game for the past 13 years, Linx says, “I have not stopped and I will never stop. Am I saying I am the best? That is for YOUR city to decide.”

Well Dave I feel very strongly in both a positive and negative sense. For starters I would like to address why you did not pursue a college or university education. Was it a personal choice? Could you not afford it? Or was it simply just not for you? If it was your personal choice, simply not for you then that’s fine. Where the problem may arise is in your future. I have to say that although it does not change who you are whether or not you have a post secondary education it will open many doors that are closed right now because you don’t. For instance in future if you want to do something else your diploma or degree could back you up. It is simply something to fall back on. So in this case it is a good thing to go back to school, education is always key, it does not matter how old you are it is never too late. With that said an education will enlighten you however, do you really care what others have to say? Although your girlfriend seems like a good support system, I have to question her motives. If she simply loves you then she should simply love you. Just because you have a

You are dating her and if all works out will marry her (if you choose to) live and wake up beside her, not her family. It is good idea to return to school, but if you are satisfied with being a mechanic, which is an excellent service job, stay put. Your girlfriend simply has an issue with you career choice or else she would have told her family what you do for a living. In order for a relationship to be healthy, communication is key. I feel there is a lot that is still unsaid. The two of you need to sit down and discuss where you see yourselves and each other in the next 5 years, as well as the goals you set forth for yourself and your relationship, if any. If not, then I strongly suggest you begin to outline some as to come to a common understanding. - Jason

RELIEF IN SIGHT With the back to school rush behind us, the change in season can leave us with a serious case of the “blues”. As the days get shorter and the summer temperatures that we were all used to begin to disappear, we know that autumn is coming full speed ahead. One indication of this change would have to be in the colours of the leaves. Red, yellow, orange and brown are the signature colours that emerge and the mark the beginning of Canada’s fall season.

Promoters everywhere prepare for this occasion by promoting a vast variety of costume parties. Many of these parties offer hoards of candy and prizes for the most unique or creative costumes. There, partygoers can dance the night away within a crowd of super heroes, ghoulish monster and fairies.

ADVERTISMENT How did you feel on the morning of August 19th 2008, when the long awaited Point Blank album was available in stores nationwide, and how important was it to your careers? Trouble: I felt blessed and happy. Now I am ready to move on to the next project – there so much more to come! Stump: I can’t even explain how I felt because new beginning. It was extremely important because it’s our first project of many more to come and it took a lifetime… How long did it take to put this album together, and who was involved in making the decisions on the final product? Trouble: We’ve been doing music for so long so the actual tracks didn’t take long at all. It’s the entire process and co ordination of putting out an album that takes time. Because we’re indie and doing it all ourselves, I think it takes a little more time than when you have a label who does it all for you. As label owners we all came together to finalize it along with the rest of the Tiltrock Team, our management H.I.T.M and Urban Project Management and Koch Entertainment.

NAOMI HILTZ PHOTOGRAPHY

I noticed that the album was mostly kept in house as far as tracks and - Sean Dheju production, is that because there was no room for features when there are 6 of you in the group? Trouble: The streets were calling for a Point Blank album and we wanted to deliver that to them for the first album. Strictly Point Blank 100%. As we plan for our solo albums and compilation we will definitely be collaborating with and signing more artists so look out for that. Stump: For the first album we don’t really need any rap features with 6 members. I don’t like rappers.

POINT BLANK

For the people that don’t know, can you tell us how long you guys have been grinding in the music industry, and how did the group get started? The single “God only knows” is blazing up the airwaves and the video is getting heavy attention, what is the next single lined up to get the radio/video treatment? Trouble: Yea, shout out to all the fans who have been requesting it and voting for us on the countdowns. We’re #1 on the MegaCity countdown right now. How has KOCH records helped make this project come together, and what was the experience working together with them? Trouble: Koch provides distribution as well as experience and knowledge about the music business that has helped us in a lot of great ways. They’ve been really helpful in the areas of promotion and PR as well as the organization of the label. What are some of your favorite tracks on the album? “God Only Knows” and “Something New” Stump: “Something New” “Make a Living” “T.O 2 OT” and “Sensitive Thugs” What should fans look out for, including projects outside of music (clothing, community events, etc?) Trouble: The tour is called T.O 2 OT : The Invasion. Look out for the dates and come out to see us shut it down in your town. And make sure you hit us up with your favorite artists so we can share the stage with them. Look out for our solo albums for sure, some acting, documentary, DVD with our performance and video footage and community events for sure. Stump: The clothing line is something to look out for and the t-shirts are already on sale on our website and fan blog. Does everyone in the group consider themselves, community leaders in the Regent Park area of Toronto? Trouble: I would say that we are more like community activists. I don’t think communities like Regent Park need leaders, they need support and a voice and we try to provide that. Stump: I would say we are leaders in a way because everyone is following our lead as far as the music. You talked about solo projects, who will be the first to drop? Trouble: We’re all working on one. We’re a record label with one of the best distributors in the world so it doesn’t really matter who goes first. But we leave it up to the fans to decide. Keep hitting us up on Face-

book, Myspace, Youtube and our website Tiltrockinc.com and fan blog Pointblankfan. com. Stump: I’m ready. Why should people go out and buy the album? Trouble: Hardest album out right now and it’s historic Stump: My opinion is it’s the best release on both sides of the border. It can compete with the best of them and we’re filling a gap that is not really out there as far as hip hop is concerned. Where can your people get the latest news and info about the group? Trouble: Any of our 4 websites. Join all our mailing lists for the Tiltrock Newsletters that gives you updates on things we’re working on, shows we’re doing. Who are some of the artists that you are feeling or plan on working with in Toronto or Canada? Trouble: We are already working with Shy Luv, M3G, Jae One. I like the ghetto, I am feeling 50 Scarface, Infinite, Styles P, for sure, D Block, Snoop for sure. As far as collabos. I’m more old school. Stump: I’m trying to work with members of the camp first. I can’t wait to work with Jackal again and Tiltrock. What’s the word on Jackal and Tilt Rock, Are they locked up? Both are and they are on their way home soon. We can’t wait.

Though the fast approaching winter can be a real damper on people’s spirits, there is one event that constantly arises in conversations everywhere, Halloween. Though it is not an official holiday, Halloween or All Hallows Eve has become a widely celebrated fall event. It is a widely celebrated festival all over North America by people of all ages. It is a time where individuals can dress-up in various costumes and enjoy themselves by embracing their newly acquired identities for the night. While being an economy boosting part of the fall season, the October 31st celebration is not seen as something to celebrate all over the world. Some places, such as in the Caribbean, Halloween is largely uncelebrated and other parts of the world, October 31st is the night where All Saint’s is celebrated. At this time, many people go to the local cemetery to light candles on the tomb of their family and friends that have departed and sing. Also, in the People’s Republic of China, a similar festival is celebrated; Ghost Festival, which is

celebrated on the 14th night of the seventh lunar month. At this festival, there is no trick-or-treating because it is seen as a time where the spirits of deceased ancestors come out of the underworld. Promoters everywhere prepare for this occasion by promoting a vast variety of costume parties. Many of these parties offer hoards of candy and prizes for the most unique or creative costumes. There, partygoers can dance the night away within a crowd of super heroes, ghoulish monster and fairies. The countdown to All Hallows Eve has begun, all department stores have finally completed their displays of the Halloween decorations and costumes and the children have already started to plan there costumes for this years trick-or-treat route. For those who are taking any children to trick-or-treat, please remember to dress warm, check all candy and keep a watchful eye on the younger ones. As a night partially dedicated to creativity of the costumes, Halloween 2008 is sure to be one of epic proportions. To all of the Trick-or-Treaters out there, whether young or old, please remember to plan your route early and that safety should be the #1 priority at all times this year on October 31st.

Music. They reviewed my material and immediately signed me up as a part of the team. With Star Kutt, my work load, my talent, and my reputation exploded, landing me jobs with some of Hip Hop’s leading players. I created tracks for rapper Styles P, and Free from BET’s 106 & Park. In addition, I landed two rhythms on Elephant Man’s ‘Good 2 Go’ album. I also made numerous beats alongsideThe Soul Diggaz, who are signed to Missy Elliot and who were involved in the production of her last three albums.

Demarco represents the refined cream of a modern crop of Jamaica’s most skilled and talented music practitioners. He embodies a new age of cutting-edge artistes, whose ability to intertwine song writing with music production, engineering, and performing, and whose capacity to use these skills seamlessly between Dancehall, Roots Reggae, Hip Hop, and R & B, makes him in constant demand in one role or another. He has either written, produced, or built tracks for some of the world’s most popular figures in music.Top names like singer/rapper Olivia, rapper Styles P and deejay Sean Paul have experienced his production skills, while deejay Bounty Killer and others have put vocals to his cutting lyrics Demarco tell me a little bit about yourself: I’m known as Collin “Demarco” Edwards I was born in Portmore St. Catherine in 1982. I attended the Ardenne High School in St Andrew, that’s where all my interests and skills were born and took shape. How did you get started in the entertainment industry? I was originally a member of a school based sound system called the Future Disco. I was spinning the hits and mixing them, this increased my love for it, and inevitably, I graduated to performing on the sound system. Before long, I became a constant fixture on the Sound System, riding with the team and performing all across Portmore. Dancehall insiders recalled me performing at the legendary Cactus Night Club at the age 15. Eventually I had to leave his colleagues when I moved to NewYork in 1998 How was life in New York when you moved out there?

23

I made sure I moved in musical circles while I was there. I ended up in Baltimore where a close friend coached me in the various elements of making music. I learned how to mix, use the keyboard, sequence rhythms and use drum machines to build Rap, R&B, and Dancehall rhythms. I gathered up this information hungrily, and my skills multiplied rapidly, but the one problem was I had no funds to buy my own production equipment. I was determined to fulfill an undeclared destiny, I plunged himself into the work force, and worked multiple jobs so I could get the funds I needed. I managed to get them a piece at a time, and inch by inch I was set about building up my home studio. What was one defining moment that made you into the person you are today? The days when I was shuffling between jobs and building tracks at home, I pushed on without sleep or food, all with the dream of creating that ground breaking sizzling track. With hard times like this comes the pay off with the buzzing Jamaican dancehall community as vibrant as it is in NewYork, it wasn’t long before one of my rhythms was bought. I made myself known to the insiders, and before long, I was earning hard cash from some of them. The word also spread quickly about my skills, and by then artist managers and sound system operators began to approach me to build rhythms for them With the booming start to your career what were other roots you took to network yourself? Through a mutual friend, I was introduced to Star Kutt

Who were some other artists that you worked for during this time? While doing all this studio work, I also penned lyrics which landed on some famous lips, and did vocals that also landed on some notable tracks. Among the collaborations are: Styles P of the Lox, ‘TellThem Again’, with Olivia of G-Unit, and one with Jabba of Hot 97 titled ‘Lighters ’. I was featured on Foxy Brown’s album, did the Chorus for a track titled ‘Whistle’ on Missy Elliot’s upcoming album, and the Chorus for Cat Deluna in Whine Whine Whine. I also wrote for Bounty Killer ‘Warlord Reloaded’ and ‘Hey Sexy Baby’, and supplied vocals on a combination with Bounty Killer titled ‘Chap’. A track with Sizzla titled ‘Kings and Queens’, which landed into coveted prime time air time slots on leading local radio stations, and for which the music video did moderate rotations on cable and television stations. Since then I was producing and writing a steady stream of hits that have ridden local charts to the top, while still with the Star Kutt label. These included Fallen Soldiers, Duppy Know Who Fi Frighten, Beautiful Lady, Sort Dem Out, Better Jamaica, and GiveThe World. The bulk of these tracks have climbed to the top of local charts at one point or another, and the music videos have increased my presence inside the local scene as a competent and formidable contender on the performing stage. Other releases include ListenToYour Girl, Blessings A Multiply with Da’Ville and ‘Face Life’ featuring Busy Signal. The rhythms include Side Walk University, which was considered my first hit rhythm, for noted producer JamTwo.This rhythm featured memorable tracks like Vybz Kartel’s Beyonce Whine, in addition to tracks fromTony Matterhorn, Sean Paul and Collie Budz. I also built the Virus rhythm for the SSMG Label, which featured Kartel’s Hot Wuk. Also on the list is the Gang War rhythm for Baby G, which features Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley’s One Loaf of bread, Mavado’sThe World Is Mine, and Sizzla’sToo Much gang War. Also blended the Z-March for Nikky Z which featured Mavado with Mamma Even IfThey Kill MeThere was also the Shoot Out for Producer John John, which features the Mykal Rose track Shoot Out, which was also written by me. The rhythm also featured my Duppy Know Who fi frighten, and No Escape by Busy Signal, plus Mavado with Gangsta Life. I did nineteen tracks and co-wrote

a number of songs for Mykal Rose’s upcoming album which is being produced by John John. The Spalsh Out Riddim for Jam 2 was also created by Demarco. This features my Any Side, and Vybz Kartels Informer. There was the Super Charge rhythm for Baby G as well, which again features myself with Elephant Man on Our World. This track is one of the singles on Elephant Man’s current album. Mavado is also on that rhythm, and Junior Reid with Dutty Gun, which was also cowritten by yours truly. Another specially blended track is the Mission rhythm for Baby G, which features Stephen Marley and Junior Gong withThe Mission. This also featured Mavado with the timeless OnThe Rock with rapper Jayz. There was also the Black Rain for my own Starr Kutt, which features Busy Signal with Pon Di Edge, and rising star Einestien with Black Rain. Another popular gem was the Warning Riddim, for Shane Brown which featured Mavado’s Money Changer, Demarco’s Sort Dem Out, and Busy Signal’s Loaded along with Hey Girl. With a good portion of my work is on several notable and popular exclusive singles. These include Nah Go Change by Christopher Martin, his very own Fallen Soldiers, and Busy Signal’s Unknown Number and Curphew. There was also Never Change byTaurus Riley and Bugle, and Mykal Rose and Busy Signal’s Real Jamaican, which was also co-written by me. As with all similar cases, cream rises to the top, and where talent abounds, people will come knocking. Demarco’s musical exploits have caught the right ears, and after listening to his work, the Executives of Koch Records approached him and signed a three album deal through his Star Kutt Records imprint. Koch is also home to international stars like Sean Kingston, Ray J, Jim Jones, DJ Khaled, and Foxy Brown among others. He is among a team of stars, and with his level of competence in so many areas of the music, Demarco will be shining.
