10 años de este magnífico proyecto en un libro: Ojosportodoslados Andar de nómadas como dice Elizabeth Ross, fotografiar de forma única y personal la vida desde distintos lados de la aldea global: México, China, Corea, España, Francia, Tailandia, Turquía, Macedonia, Argentina, Ecuador, Burkina Faso. Vínculos, de Sur a Norte, de Este a Oeste. Planeta tierra, visión orgánica. Elizabeth Ross es una artista comprometida que durante estos años ha tejido una red de 31 artistas internautas en este proyecto de colaboración, conversación creativa, juego de espejos, refugio placentero, silencios y ruidos, lo mas cercano e íntimo, diarios, rituales, cruzar miradas, complicidades, reflexión, expresiones diversas. Palabras llenas de emotividad y afecto en este recorrido por las vivencias de las mujeres participantes de este libro. Convocar y realizar el trabajo de subir a la red semana a semana las visiones de tantas mujeres es una tarea titánica; nos muestra un liderazgo solidario y una voluntad a prueba para llevar al ciber espacio esta riqueza colectiva. Ojosportodoslados es documentar la vida misma, de adentro hacia fuera con imágenes de la naturaleza y de las pequeñas cosas que nos conmueven. 10 years of this magnificent project in a book: Eyeseverywhere Being nomads, as Elizabeth Ross says, photographing life in a unique and personal way from different sides of the global village; Mexico, China, Korea, Spain, France, Thailand, Turkey, Macedonia, Argentina, Ecuador, Burkina Faso. Linkage from South to North, from East to West. Planet Earth, organic vision. Elizabeth Ross is a committed artist who during these years has woven a network of 31 artists through internet in this project of collaboration, creative conversation, mirror play, pleasant refuge, silence and noises, the closest intimate, diaries, rituals, complicities, reflection, diverse expressions. Words full of emotion and affection in this tour through the experiences of the women participating in this book. To summon and carry out the work of uploading the visions of so many women week after week is a titanic task, it shows to us a solidary leadership and a willingness to try to bring this collective wealth to cyber space. Eyeseverywhere documents life itself, from the inside out with images of nature and the little things that move us. Findings that become endearing when we settle our look. Congratulations!

To name with the eyes. To build intimacies. To amplify delusions. Abstracting the sap in each spell. To woo your own obsessions. Granting vastness to each of the worlds. Mirroring in amazement. In the global era we live in, marked by liquidity between BEING and STAYING humans, fulfilling ten years of constant dialogue and feedback is an achievement to celebrate. And even more if it is a network project among creative women: 31 artists from 24 countries -but with traveling mind and feet extending geographic territories-, producing every week visual contours, microcosms resembling objects, beings, environments and scenarios that shift into smells, temperatures and subtle emotions re-signifying in the virtuality of a blog and, now, in a book. And as a bliss, some meetings on the web were already transformed into real meetings, with an exchange of words and hugs, indispensable in the widening of our -yes, still-, human nature. Game. Growth. Travel. Tissue. Harvest. Desire. Excess. Crevice. All these have been a creative theme-grip for the artists. And perhaps also the path that each process has led them to each photo’s juicy or rough results, in its gloss nature, a sketch for a personal diary that became a shared and collective one. In short, it got enriched. Writer John Berger says that a photograph entails a challenge to disappearance. For this reason we applaud this eyeseverywhere meeting in their steadfast and ludic creative exercise to avoid the concealment of seemingly insignificant universes that, here, are exalted.

Nombrar con la mirada. Construir intimidades. Amplificar delirios. Abstraer la savia en cada hechizo. Cortejar las propias obsesiones. Otorgarle vastedad a cada uno de los mundos. Espejearse en el asombro. En la era global que vivimos, marcada por una liquidez en el SER y ESTAR humanos, cumplir diez años de constante diálogo y retroalimentación es una proeza festejable. Y más si se trata de un proyecto en red entre mujeres creadoras: 31 artistas de 24 países -pero con mente y pies viajeros que amplían territorios geográficos- engendran cada semana contornos visuales, microcosmos parecidos a objetos, seres, ambientes y escenarios que se trastocan en olores, temperaturas y emociones sutiles que se resignifican en la virtualidad de un blog y, ahora, en un libro. Por dicha, algunos encuentros en la web se transformaron ya en encuentros reales, con intercambio de palabras y abrazos, indispensables en el ensanchamiento de nuestra naturaleza, sí, todavía humana. Juego. Crecimiento. Viaje. Tejido. Cosecha. Anhelo. Exceso. Hendidura. Todo ello ha sido temaasidero de creación para las artistas. Y quizás también el sendero que cada proceso las condujo a resultados jugosos o ásperos para cada foto, en su naturaleza de ser glosa, bosquejo de un diario personal que devino en compartido y colectivo. En suma, enriquecido. Dice el escritor John Berger que una fotografía supone un desafío a la desaparición. Aplaudamos por ello esta reunión de ojosportodoslados en su férreo y lúdico ejercicio creativo por evitar el ocultamiento de universos en apariencia insignificantes que, aquí, se engrandecen.

¿Cuántos sábados caben en 10 años? Han sido 520 veces ininterrumpidas las que hemos compartido lo que nuestros ojos ven, nuestra interpretación del mundo, nuestro compromiso con un proyecto que nació por el puro gusto de jugar, de crear colectivamente, de tejer una sutil red de mujeres alrededor de este planeta. Sin expectativas más allá del construir juntas, el que el tiempo se estire hasta contar diez años ha sido para todas –las iniciadoras, las que ya no están, las que continúan, las que recién llegan- un placentero orgullo. El contar con 31 artistas, la mayoría nómadas y no necesariamente fotógrafas, comprometidas con el proyecto a lo largo de este tiempo, ha extendido ese manto cálido y protector por buena parte de este dolido mundo. Durante este tiempo hemos privilegiado la imagen y anotado los sitios de donde proviene, hemos navegado por el espacio virtual y conjugado presencias, hemos anulado la autoría, hemos vertido nuestro compromiso en lograr crear un proyecto-panal, un colectivo emanar miel que contribuya a hacer un poco mejor la vida. Eso creemos y por eso es que continuamos. Durante este tiempo eyeseverywhere se ha manifestado en el mundo físico de diversas maneras: en principio con un video realizado a los 4 años y que ha sido y sigue siendo proyectado en China, Noruega, España, Argentina, México. El proyecto se ha presentado en congresos, algunas de las fotografías se han impreso para ser colocadas en lugares públicos de varios países y hasta una exposición realizada en China llevó su nombre. Y lo que es aún mejor, algunas de nosotras hemos roto la barrera digital y nos hemos visto a los ojos y tomado un té caliente. O un raki o un mate. Hay que celebrar estos 10 años y por eso este libro donde estamos todas, con apenas una pequeña muestra de tanto que han visto nuestros ojos por todos lados.

How many Saturdays there are in 10 years? There have been 520 uninterrupted times that we have shared what our eyes see, our interpretation of the world, our commitment to a project that was born for the pure pleasure of playing, to create collectively, to weave a subtle network of women around this planet. With no expectations beyond building together, that eventually time has stretched to count ten years has been for all of us -the initiators, those who are gone, those who continue, those just incorporated- a pleasant pride. Having 31 artists, most of them nomadic and not necessarily photographers, committed to the project during this time, has extended this warm and protective mantle over much of this wounded world. During this time we have privileged the image and pointed out the sites where they were shot, have navigated the virtual space and conjugated presences; we have set aside authorship and poured our commitment to achieve the creation of a honeycomb-project, a collective honey emanation that can contribute to make life a little better. We believe in this and that’s why we continue. During this time eyeseverywhere has manifested in the physical world in various ways: with a video made when we reached the 4th year, that has been and continues to be screened in China, Norway, Spain, Argentina, Mexico. The project has been presented at conferences, some of the pictures have been printed to be placed in public places in several countries and even an exhibition in China took its name. And what’s even better, some of us have broken the digital boundary and we have seen each other’s eyes and had together a hot tea. Or a raki or a mate. We must celebrate these 10 years and therefore comes this book, where we are all in, with just a small sample of what our eyes have seen everywhere.

Eyes everywhere or We yes very here + e, one letter to much… To see everywhere, to be here YES very… each week, each month, each year in 10 years! Each picture sent is a witness. Different places worldwide, women artist focus on the theme which links us together each week, a whole month! The themes renewed by one of us like collage, vegetable, faces, sweet water, path, walls, series… during 10 years, all kind of themes have given birth to series of pictures taken in the close vicinity of each of us. Many of the pictures are more than witnesses, they have the quality which the artist can give by making decisions as how to compose it and what impact can have the contained meaning and what part of the eye and other senses it’s colors, shapes, material that will touch.
Ojos por todos lados o Nosotras sí muy aquí + e, una letra para mucho... Ver ojos por todos lados, estar aquí SÍ mucho... cada semana, cada mes, cada año durante 10 años! Cada imagen enviada es testigo. Desde diferentes sitios alrededor del mundo, las artistas se enfocan en un tema que nos une cada semana, un mes entero! Los temas que son renovados por cada una de nosotras como collage, vegetales, rostros, agua dulce, caminos, muros, series... durante diez años toda clase de temas han dado origen a una serie de fotografías tomadas en nuestro ambiente cercano. Muchas imágenes son más que testigas, contienen la calidad que la artista puede dar al tomar decisiones en la composición y el impacto que el significado que contiene puede ofrecer, cuál será el material que los colores y las formas tocarán qué parte del ojo y los otros sentidos.

Eyeseverywhere has been a way for me to share my experience being a woman in the world, traveling constantly, with other women who go through the same ritual each week. Though I document my life and work on the road in my own personal ways, having a way to do it as part of a collective helps me remember that our roads are connected.
Ojosportodoslados ha sido para mĂ una manera de compartir mi experiencia de ser mujer en este mundo que viaja constantemente y que con otras mujeres realizamos el mismo ritual cada semana. My participation in eyeseverywhere documented my travels throughout the U.S. in Chicago, New York and Miami. I am now home in Houston and a mother to a son, Zahir. Participé en el blog durante una crisis de salud mental y los meses de recuperación posteriores. La foto reciente, a la izquierda, documenta el paso del tiempo, menos inestable pero de larga duración, de su faceta crónica. La enfermedad mental puede empobrecer la vida de formas distintas. Una temporada olvidé comer y en la comida germinó vida. Para uno la descomposición es maligna, pero a otra escala el ciclo vuelve a empezar. La interacción entre biología y sociedad crea situaciones nuevas. El hecho de que las enfermedades mentales representen la mayor carga mundial de morbilidad medida en años perdidos por discapacidad nos habla de nuestro tiempo. Desde que empezaba en eyes he visto a algunos que pierden, como yo perdí de joven, el camino a una medicina efectiva. Por no recibir atención de calidad y no saber dónde buscarla, y con ayuda de las modas anticientíficas.
My blog posts belong to a course of crisis and recovery, while the recent shot in the left records the less unstable, but long-lasting passing of time, both related to chronic mental illness. Life with mental illness gets impoverished in many ways, but I’ve been through it’s didactics and own sense for a while. Through unlife I may forget about food, but life itself thrives. For us decay is deleterious and unpleasant, whereas in smaller scales a cycle starts again. Biology and society intertwine predisposing outcomes, and the fact mental illness is the World’s main burden of disease measured in years lost to disability gives us a glimpse to our times. Since the days I first posted I’ve seen others drift away from effective medical care, as I once did, out inadequate information and anti-science, which also reinforce stigma. We need rational approaches to fight back.

Eyeseverywhere ha significado para mí la posibilidad de cruzar mirada con otras mujeres alrededor del mundo. Facultó que nuestras observaciones locales, a través de la fotografía, se presentaran en diversos lugares a nivel global. Viajamos todas juntas sobre una red virtual que se materializó en China, México o Argentina. Me alentó al compromiso de un ejercicio fotográfico periódico, de ubicar y relacionar un tema con una posible interpretación. Un momento, una incidencia de luz, personajes por capturar, en espacios tanto íntimos como públicos para crear una memoria en red de trayectos, encuentros y desencuentros. Un esfuerzo importante el de hacer coincidir miradas de mujeres por el mundo que muestran sus espacios, prácticas, miradas, vínculos, afectos pero sobre todo pone el acento en enriquecer un archivo colaborativo global.
For me, eyeseverywhere meant the chance to intercross my gaze with other women’s worlwide. It encouraged that our local observation through photography could be presented in different venues. We all traveled on a virtual web that materialized in China, Mexico or Argentina. It motivated me to engage into a periodic photographic exercise, to locate and relate a theme with a possible interpretation. A moment, a light incidence, characters to capture in public and intimate spaces, to create journeys, encounters and disagreements in an online memory. This is an important effort to make possible the coincidence of women around the world showing their spaces, practices, gazes, links, affections but, above all this, it emphasizes the enrichment of a global collaborative archive.

Fractales creciendo en la fauna, voraces, sosteniéndose en un sin fin, enredándose en el alma de eternos caracoles, suspirando déjà vu. Imágenes tejiéndose como nidos. Tu, yo, todas, esencias de instantes construyendo el alma, un hogar, ¡un dulce hogar!

The monthly themes that our eyeseverywhere members compose, influence how I go about my week, how I experience and interpret my surroundings and the people that are present in it. Not only do you start seeing things in a different light, but also, as the theme is presented by women from all over the world, many of whom I’ve never met, you get a glimpse of the world through their eyes. Each week the images are presented together, and we create a collective collage that shows how different, similar, poetic, mundane, warm and harsh our simultaneous lives are.
Los temas mensuales que definen las artistas de nuestro ojosportodoslados influyen en mi semana, la forma en que experimento e interpreto mi entorno y las personas que están presentes en ella. No sólo se empiezan a ver las cosas desde una perspectiva diferente, sino también, como el tema es presentado por mujeres de todo el mundo, muchas de los cuales nunca he conocido, se obtiene una visión del mundo a través de sus ojos. Cada semana las imágenes se presentan juntas y crean un collage colectivo que muestra qué tan diferentes, similares, poéticas, mundanas, cálidas y duras son nuestras vidas simultáneas.

Photography is a way for me to capture moods, spaces and things unnoticed at first glance. My weekly contributions to eyeseverywhere have become a diary of my own meanderings through the concepts of the other contributors, creating a network of common thought and varying expressions. Through each month’s themes are revealed each of our approaches to the medium, creating an undercurrent of who we are, what interests us, and how we each see... differently, yet through a common thread.
Para mi la fotografía es una manera de capturar estados de ánimo, espacios y cosas desapercibidas a simple vista. Mis contribuciones semanales a ojosentodoslados se han convertido en un diario de mis propios meandros a través de los conceptos de los otras colaboradoras, creando una red de pensamiento común y expresiones diversas. A través de los temas de cada mes se revelan cada uno de nuestros enfoques hacia el medio, creando una corriente profunda de quiénes somos, de nuestros intereses y de cómo cada una mira...distintamente pero a través de un hilo conductor común.

Considero que la fotografía es siempre una conversación entre luces y sombras. Pero también es mucho más: indagación, hallazgo, fantasía… En mi caso he descubierto, a lo largo de los años, que no fotografío calles, montañas, objetos o niños: fotografío el tiempo. Busco capturar el instante, ese momento que apenas llegado, ya pasó. No hablo de “instantáneas” ni del “momento decisivo”, hablo de atrapar el agua que se escurre entre los dedos, de no olvidar el sol de ayer. Cazadora ingenua, quiero que con un clic la eternidad caiga en la trampa, en el recinto antiguo de la cámara oscura, en los pixeles crecientes: en la complicada geometría de la Nada I always consider photography to be a dialogue between light and shade, while at the same time it is something more than that: investigation, discovery and imagination. In my personal case, I have discovered that over the years I haven’t been photographing streets, mountains, objects or children. I photograph “time”. I attempt to capture that very instant, that moment which, no sooner than it has arrived it has disappeared. I am not referring to “the decisive moment”, but I am referring to catching the water that slips through our fingers, not to mention yesterday’s sun. I am an innocent hunter, who wants eternity to fall into a trap by means of an easy click, in the old-fashioned chamber of a camera obscura, in a growing progression of pixels: the complicated geometry of the Void.

Five years of participation in what is called a “collaborative art project” and witnessing the devotion, determination, constant involvement of all participants, make eyeseverywhere a pleasant retreat, a creative and stimulating weekly conversation. What I say, someone else puts it in other words or complements it; what I don`t say another one is thinking of. It is always amazing to feel and understand what for me stands as feminine aesthetic. Every week we share a piece of our lives seen from a perspective of a certain theme. The monthly theme is as different as we all are. And only by remembering the theme, a different reality is suggested (which we might like or want to escape from), a reality in which we project ourselves, our captures or, we simply observe. Whatever is the case, the experience is precious and moreover, not a sole purpose for itself, but an upgrade of our inspirational patterns.
5 años de participar en el llamado “proyecto de arte colaborativo” y observar la devoción, determinación y compromiso constante, hacen de ojosentodoslados un refugio placentero, una conversación creativa y estimulante. Lo que digo alguien lo dice de otra forma o lo complementa; lo que no digo alguna otra lo piensa. Es impresionante sentir y entender lo que para mí es la estética femenina. Cada semana compartimos una parte de nuestras vidas vistas desde la perspectiva de un tema mensual, que es tan diferente como cada una de nosotras. Y solo con recordarlo se sugiere una realidad diferente (que puede que nos guste o querramos escapar de ella). Una realidad en la que nos proyectamos o que simplemente observamos. De cualquier forma la experiencia es preciosa y, además, no es solo un propósito en sí mismo, sino que potencia los patrones que nos inspiran.

Every Saturday is the same thing, collecting images from artists all over the world and uploading them to the project blog. Everyone in the world, regardless of which corner, hand over at the same time their own photos. Many have not met in person but in a virtual time and space we appreciate each other’s talent. Looking back these images after ten years, one have to admire the perseverance, and this perseverance through time and space exudes personal emotions, but also show the collective wisdom, its significance is not only reflected in the field of art, but for sociology, anthropology... As one of the participants, I have to say, I very much admire those who adhere to photography every week. This perseverance is the most valuable quality of human spirit, it goes beyond the fetters of the world, making art timeless. On the tenth anniversary I can say this project is a condensation of wisdom and effort.
La participación de mujeres artistas en este proyecto durante 10 años no es solo un despliegue de talento sino también de voluntad, y hasta de tortura mental. Cada sábado es lo mismo, recolectar imágenes de artistas de todo el mundo y subirlas al blog. Y todas en el mundo, sin importar desde qué esquina, envían al mismo tiempo sus fotos. Muchas no nos conocemos, pero en el tiempo-espacio virtual apreciamos nuestros talentos. Al ver las imágenes de estos 10 años una tiene que admirar la perseverancia que, en el tiempoespacio, exuda emociones personales pero también sabiduría colectiva. Su significado no solo está en el campo del arte sino de la sociología, la antropología... Como participante tengo que decir que admiro mucho a quienes se comprometen a la fotografía semanal. Esta perseverancia es la más valiosa cualidad del espíritu humano, va más allá de los grilletes mundanos, haciendo del arte algo duradero. En su décimo aniversario, puedo decir que este proyecto es sabiduría y esfuerzo condensados.

Despliego en abanico lo que veo ante miles de ojos que nunca me han mirado, ante miles de ojos que no he mirado nunca. Invento lo que veo y todo lo contrario. La realidad es una línea que curva y endereza la mirada. Paralela y ajena la dejamos al margen. Perpendicular, a un punto nos asimos. A veces es tangente y no tiene sentido confundirnos. Construir la realidad sobre una pincelada de ficción nos condena a estar ciegos con los ojos intactos.

I unfold as a fan what I see before thousands of eyes that have never looked at me, before thousands of eyes I’ve never looked at. I invent what I see and the opposite. The reality is a line that bend and straighten the look. Parallel and alien we leave it at the margin. Perpendicular, we cling upon a point. Sometimes it’s tangent and it makes no sense to confuse ourselves. To construct reality on a touch of fiction condemns us to be blind with eyes intact.

Para mí Eyes es un ritual. El tema mensual me hace imaginar mini proyectos concentrados en las 4 o 5 imágenes semanales. Los primeros años fueron más casuales, y desde hace un tiempo me propongo contar historias para que la rutina desde el 2007 se convierta en aventura. Eyes es una manera de estar activa fotográficamente y de mantener viva una red de mujeres artistas tan dispares.
Eyes for me is a ritual. The monthly theme provokes me to imagine mini projetcs concentrated in the 4 or 5 weekly images. During the first years my photos were more casual, but since some time ago I want to tell stories, so the routine that began in 2007 becomes an adventure. Eyes it’s a way to remain active in photography and to keep alive a network of women artists who are so disparate.

Existe un blog sabatino con unos objetivos sencillos: ser mujer, tener los ojos bien abiertos y la cámara lista para disparar. No importa si estas en Cuetzalan, Japón o Transilvania. Menos importa si tu nombre empieza con C, T o U. Lo que realmente importa es el compromiso de estar, ver, sentir y hablar desde el ser mujer, con una visión y sensibilidad propias. Yo tengo muy poco tiempo en esta aventura y cada sábado compruebo la valentía de cada una de nosotras, el amor con que logramos ver nuestro día a día. Compruebo que tenemos una mirada y un sentir único. There is a Saturday blog with a few simple goals: being female with eyes wide open and a camera ready to shoot. It doesn’t matter if you’re in Cuetzalan, Japan or Transylvania. Less significative is if your name starts with C, T or U. What really matters is the commitment to be, see, feel and speak from the vision and own sensitivity of a woman. I have very little time being part of this adventure but every Saturday I notice the courage of each of us, the love with which we see our day-to-day and the look and a unique feel we women have.

De la mariposa: La vida es un secreto en el rastro dejado por el ciclo, dentro de la invisibilidad de la oscuridad de la tristeza. Mis capas de existencia están tras su secreto. Mi yo inferior, del cual partí, ya ha comenzado a probar la muerte. Yo, por el contrario, he viajado a las profundidades sin fin de las imágenes. Primero he pintado el vacío y luego oscurecí las sombras, que eran más oscuras que la noche. Being a part of the eyeseverywhere cohort engaged and challenged me as an artist. I was living abroad for much of the time I contributed images, and for me it was a way to be a part of something that was greater than simply an artist in a foreign land. My visual thoughts were curated in a collaboration of many creative women across geopolitical and linguistic boundaries. I was forced to think about my environment and experiences in different and inspiring ways.
El ser parte de la corte de eyeseverywhere me involucró y desafió como artista. Viví por mucho tiempo en otro país en ese entonces, por lo que era una forma de ser parte de algo mayor que ser simplemente una artista en tierra extranjera. Mis pensamientos visuales fueron curados en colaboración con muchas mujeres creativas a través de fronteras lingüísticas y geopolíticas. Esto me forzó a pensar en mi entorno y mis experiencias en maneras diferentes e inspiradoras.

Me gusta el anonimato de las fotos en el proyecto porque es verdad que cualquiera de nosotras podria haber hecho cualquiera de las fotos y porque aparca nuestro ego de artistas.
A project of women and with women encourages me to continue pulling the cart of life. I like teamwork and I think this is a good one. I like looking at the world and the feelings involved not entirely through my eyes but from all of yours. I like the anonymity of the photos in the project because it is true that any of us could have done any of the photos and because this keeps our artists’ ego parked.

I want to express the importance of this project to give each participating artist the opportunity to share their realities through images.
