e’re so pleased to be back’: As local businesses start to reopen, we have survived one of the most personal and professional challenges we have ever faced. It’s fair to say, that lockdown had its moments. Lockdown for me was working from my home office, having online meetings, trying to navigate my way round running my business remotely. We even held our local board meeting via Zoom. Once or twice a week I would venture across town to the Summerset Retirement Village to pick up their grocery lists and do their weekly shop. The way I see it right now - we’ve all got a job to do! Businesses are doing everything to adapt to the new normal so please be patient. If you’re in a position to help a business get back on its feet..., don’t put off those things you’ve been meaning to do. Join that gym or sign up to that pilates class, and if you’re in a financial position to do so, purchase their
products and services and if you really love them - tell everyone about them. Write positive online reviews, encourage word of mouth via recommending your favourite businesses to your friends and family, follow and engage with your favourite social media accounts and the bloggers you love. Sign up for the newsletters, Ellerslie is full of small businesses that really appreciate you shopping local. On behalf of the business community – A huge thank you to you all for continuing to support us through this awful time and a great big Ellerslie welcome to Little Elephants and Mr Tanaka’s – both are wonderful new additions to the Ellerslie dining scene.

ell my goodness, what an unimaginable 3 months its been since our last issue with our lives
being turned upside down with Covid-19. Something none of us saw coming, but something we are all finding our way through. For every family, every business, every individual that has meant different things as the months passed. Damian Barr wrote a piece on Twitter that rapidly evolved into memes and illustrations that circulated on social media, which described it well, “We are not all in the same boat. We are all in the same storm. Some are on super-yachts. Some have just the one oar” Now as the storm eases, this analogy still holds – some boats will have weathered the storm better than others. We are hopeful that in the village, our businesses will ride out this turbulent time through the support of locals. So firstly a massive thank you to all who supported our businesses during lockdown. It was heart-warming to see community ‘shoutouts’ over pie deliveries, sharing flour finds from Four Square and genuine community connection through quizzes, bear hunts, Anzac displays and more. You can read more about these acts of community togetherness in the pages of this issue. Secondly as lockdown has eased, we have been so happy to see the smiles of our retailers delighted to be back in their businesses and the
In addition to purchasing there are other ways you can support your local favourites that don’t cost a penny, by giving them your voice. This might mean sharing their website, writing an online review, or recommending them to friends. In the world of social media, engagement is king and small businesses are fighting for people’s attention alongside bigger businesses with big budgets. So one good way to help is by liking, commenting or sharing their social media posts, this helps them to reach a wider audience and costs you nothing. Finally during this lockdown period there has also been a chance to look for silver linings. I feel and I hope that during this time people will have realised the importance of our local businesses and what they contribute to our community. We are a village, a place where people come together, to meet, to get what they need, and to share friendship and belonging. It has brought out into the light the value of these relationships that can’t be found in large format retailing, where business service is often just anonymous. In Ellerslie, we hope that you always see a familiar friendly face, welcoming you. So we thank you for your support both over the past few weeks and also over the coming winter months when business is traditionally quieter. Our village is open and waiting. We can’t wait to see you.
familiar faces of you, our community returning to our village. As we progress through this ‘new normal’ we encourage you to continue to ‘purchase with purpose’. Choose local hospitality when meeting up with friends, check out local retailers for clothing and gifts, and visit local stores for services and supplies (pro-tip, Glen and his team at House of Travel Ellerslie have some wonderful NZ getaway breaks and can customise a package perfect for you).

community lockdown quiz Wanting to maintain a connection with the Ellerslie Community during Covid-19 lockdown, Bayleys agent Sylvia Duda bounced ideas round with her colleagues and decided to create an online local music quiz. Using the Ellerslie Community Facebook page, she created her first music quiz post and began receiving great feedback. With the involvement of Doolan Brothers and Union Post in offering vouchers as incentives and prizes the participation quickly increased to an eventual online participation of 250 players. With the popularity of the online quiz Sylvia, along with the support of Doolan Brothers as the venue, recently held a ‘live community’ event and is looking to continue each month (on the last Thursday) Next event being June 25th at 7pm. Sylvia says when she was creating her personal brand she says she decided that “the essence of who I am, what I offer and what makes me different is be ALTOGETHER MEMORABLE!” She never set out with her first quiz to create an ALTOGETHER MEMORABLE lockdown experience, but that’s what happened and she feels truly humbled by the response.
ellerslie good sort This month’s Goodsorts award goes to the team at Charlie Baxters. During lockdown they had lots of amazing craft beer that was simply going to spoil. Generously they wanted to donate it to our local emergency services but it was all in large kegs and the restrictions in place made things tough. They also had trouble sourcing bottles with none of their suppliers having any left. But they didn’t give up and got in touch with Nick, the Owner-Operator of Ellerslie Four Square. He not only sourced the bottles but provided them free of charge. So with all the correct hygiene, food safety and distancing requirements in place, the bottles were filled and then distributed to some very happy Fire, Police and Ambulance services. We love to see our local businesses working together for the good of others. So head into Charlie Baxters, buy a pint and think of it as your donation to our local emergency services – it’s simply been paid forward already!

want to start by thanking you for your continued efforts as we work through the different alert level measures and pull together to fend off the pandemic. Ellerslie has played its part extremely well and our day-to-day actions have made the difference. Thank you to our frontliners for your tireless work over the months to keep us safe. Your high work ethic and dedication has not gone unnoticed! As we get used to the radical lifestyle change the virus has brought, we’re also beginning to think about the end of the crisis, and what the world will look like afterward. Some things will go back to the way they were. For others, there will be a new normal. Please be assured my staff (Danni and Alex) and I remain committed to assisting you as we transition to a post-COVID environment. If you’re a local business owner or employee adversely affected by COVID-19 and are in need of financial support, please get in touch. We can help direct you to the most appropriate scheme or package for your situation. Contact us anytime on 0800 DENISEMP or email deniseleemp@parliament.govt.nz to receive my monthly newsletter. If there is any silver lining to the pandemic, it’s that we’re stronger and more resilient when we stand together. This was proven throughout my Covid Connect initiative where 120 volunteers from our community reached out to older New Zealanders and offered a helping hand during lock-down. Together we made over 2,500 phone calls, shopped and delivered groceries and pharmaceuticals, and lent an ear to our lonely and isolated. I recall one particular touching situation that arose from our Covid Connect. The below excerpt (names changed for privacy) was sent to me from one of our volunteers: Dear Denise, I got a call from Linda last week, she asked that I collect some cornflakes for her husband, so this was arranged and dropped to them on the same day. Linda had finally got their groceries
delivered after waiting 8 days for a high priority delivery, however there were no cornflakes. Since her husband had a stroke 9 years ago, he has been in the same routine and cannot understand when something in his routine, such as his breakfast cereal, is not the same. He then refused to eat anything else for breakfast, so Linda phoned me for support. She was so grateful and wished that I send through my thanks to you for what you are doing with this initiative. Summerset Retirement Village also sought the assistance of five of our local volunteers who helped with weekly groceries. I would like to extend my greatest appreciation to Sandra (EBA Chair), Julie, Sharon, Elaine and Kerry (Flowers of St Johns) for their time and commitment. Last but not least, I want to acknowledge Megan and the team at Ellerslie Business Association. The past few months have been difficult and uncertain for our businesses. EBA have been there every step of the way providing support, advice and encouragement. We’re fortunate to be part of a Village with such strong community sentiment – let’s continue this and keep the heart beating of Ellerslie!

ellerslie songbird Birds are an important indicator of the health of our environment. To help Landcare Research discover and learn more about our garden bird’s every year they encourage us to participate in this citizen science project - The Garden Bird Survey. This year’s survey is from 27 June - 5 July 2020. The garden bird survey is a project established to monitor the population trends of common garden birds in New Zealand. It attempts to answer the question, “Are garden bird populations increasing, decreasing, or remaining stable?” Landcare research use the annual garden bird survey as an early-warning system. Several currently common native species occur in our gardens, including fantail, tūī, bellbird, silvereye, grey warbler, and kereru. Measuring the population trends of these species is an enormous task, which is where Landcare Research need your help.
PROJECT UPDATE - 101 RAT TRAPS! The number of traps being delivered out into the Ellerslie community is growing, which is great. We are now at 101 rat traps. We ask that when a rat is caught in the trap that it is reported through our google form. In May we had a total of 12 rats caught and 4 mice. We still have more rat traps to give so please get in touch via email or through our website. We are hoping to hold another rat trap collection event in the coming months but for now we are happy to deliver them to you.
TAKING PART IS EASY: 1. Select your garden, park, or school 2. Choose one day from June 27 and July 5 3. Look and listen for birds for ONE hour. 4. R ecord the HIGHEST number of a bird species observed at one time. 5. Submit your survey results online.

Matariki is a special time of year. Matariki is a star cluster that appears in our skies in the winter month of Pipiri (June-July) and marks the first month of the Maori lunar calendar. Due to the interesting start of 2020, we are unable to create a new Matariki exhibition this year. But because we love learning and sharing about Matariki, we have put our 2019 Matariki exhibition online for you to view in your own time.

t’s great to see the Ellerslie Magazine in production again. Community publications such as this one are immensely important to a continued connection between what is going on behind the scenes and what we see on the streets. As you know the Orakei Local Board continued working during the Covid lockdown period, thankfully we were able to hold meetings via Skype and decision making was only slowed. We are beginning to head back to the office in Meadowbank, which is promising, and of course completely due to the huge effort made by New Zealanders to stop the spread of the virus. There is now the difficult matter of vastly reduced budgets for Council, and as the Emergency Budget is reviewed and decided upon, you can rest assured that the organisation is doing what it can to review and streamline how it works, reducing staff, reducing expenditure and you’ll notice this in the level of service you receive and events that are held or supported over the next 12 months or so. It is hard to know exactly what the changes will mean for those living in Orakei, but it will become clearer as time passes. Until then let me encourage you to continue to be kind to each other and understanding of those troubles that members of our community will be facing. Finances will be only one of the hurdles we face. Please keep yourself informed and involved in the important processes that are undertaken by Auckland Council; the Emergency Budget and then the Local Board Plan which sets our priorities for the next three years. Community input is what guides us and so we need to hear from you. Follow us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/orakeiLB) for regular up-to-date information.

am sure, like me, you are looking forward to being able to go where we like, with whom we like, when we like. Also having somewhere interesting to go to. A visit to the Auckland Town Hall to listen to the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra would be an exciting start, but realistically considering the capacity of the Great Hall and the number of players required that may be a little way off. However, the orchestra’s administration and some of the committee of the “Friends” worked together to create a virtual ‘Meet The Artist’ morning with one of the newer administration staff members who told us about her part of the massive amount of planning and organisation, over a period of 2 or 3 years, which is necessary to produce these wonderful concerts we just sit and enjoy. She then sang for us proving that the singing training she had mentioned earlier was very worthwhile. There was another speaker, a trombonist from the group ‘Toppee Flat’. He explained how he came to play the trombone and later formed the group. He also explained how a trombone works before he played, proving that he really does know how the instrument works.

The “Friends” have hopes of holding a real live Meet The Artist Friday morning in the near future and have approached various musicians checking on their availability, but no firm arrangements can be made until we know when the Ellerslie War Memorial Hall will be open. In the meantime, be assured we will be around supporting our orchestra in any way we can, financially or anything else that will help them to stay the brightest star in Auckland’s crown. She will also be able to tell you how to receive the two virtual MTA’s mentioned above. Even just contacting Bryce Bartley 02102573376 and joining up as a member for only $35 per year, will be a great help.

Spinach Pie Serves 6 regular or 4 hearty helpings
2 Tbsp olive oil 1 red onion, peeled and chopped
TIPS
1 brown onion, peeled and chopped
Add more onion mixture, as per personal preference.
250g back bacon, chopped a bunch of flat-leaf parsley, chopped 300g baby spinach leaves, roughly chopped a bunch of silverbeet, stalks removed and roughly chopped 1/3 cup avocado or sunflower oil 4 eggs, cracked and lightly beaten sea salt and pepper freshly grated nutmeg 1 cup grated sharp cheddar 1⁄4 cup grated Parmesan
Add in different types of cheese to alter the flavour. For example, goat’s cheese or feta or Swiss cheese will make the taste stronger. Omit bacon for a vegetarian option. Use deep ramekins to create individual pies. Use pastry on the bottom and the top for a closed pie, or just on the top for a pot pie. You can brush the pastry with milk or egg wash if you wish it to look lovely and golden on the top

very happy family. Preheat your oven to 190°C. Pour the olive oil into a frying pan, and heat for a couple of minutes. Add in the onion and bacon. Cook for 5–6 minutes, until the onion is soft and the aroma is delicious. Remove from the heat, and set aside for a few minutes. When it is a little cooler, add in the chopped parsley. Stir to combine.
Take a large ceramic or glass ovenproof dish (20x30cm) and pile in about half of the spinach leaf mixture. Top with the onions and bacon and half of the cheese. Pile the rest of the spinach mixture on top, and finish with the rest of the cheese. Top with the 2 sheets of puff pastry. Press the edges of the pastry onto the lip of your dish. Then use a sharp knife to prick all over the top of the pie to allow steam to escape a little as it cooks.
Combine the spinach and silverbeet leaves in a large bowl, and toss with the avocado or sunflower oil, using your hands. (Do this in 2 batches if necessary.)
Cook for 40 minutes. Serve with your favourite chutney, chilli or tomato jam.

one tree hill college
I
t was so exciting welcoming back our staff and students following the recent lockdown. On behalf of all the One Tree Hill College families I would like to extend our best wishes to the Ellerslie community, especially those who are going through harder times as a result of covid-19. I encourage everyone to support local businesses and do what we can to help each other through these tough times. Prior to lockdown, NZQA had just released our confirmed NCEA results across all three levels, with many students being endorsed with either merit or excellence endorsements. All our NCEA results were above the national average for NCEA, in fact above by up to 15%. This, along with our recent excellent Education Review Office (ERO) report, emphasises the high quality teaching and learning taking place at the college. As we move from our remote teaching and learning programme back into a more ‘normal’ school life, we are able to re-commence a full sporting and performing arts programme. This is exciting for students as they have missed these co-curricular opportunities whilst studying from home. With most of our sporting teams in Auckland premier competitions, we wish them well throughout their respective winter seasons. Whilst in lockdown, I was fortunate to reconnect with one of our successful alumni – 3 time America’s Cup winning yachtsman, Brad Butterworth, OBE. Every year we try to bring former students back to the college to inspire our students. Other notable former students include Sir John Goulter (KNZM), Tina Cross (ONZM), Mark Todd, Carol Hirschfeld, David Liti and academy award nominee, Keisha Castle-Hughes. With the college at capacity, the enrolment zone for the college means families in and out of zone will need to be very aware of upcoming deadlines as we start enrolling students for 2021. There will be very limited places available for students who live out of zone – please refer to our website for the college’s enrolment scheme. Our Open Day will be Thursday 6 August, followed by our enrolment days on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 August, 8am to 8pm. Please

This continues to be a great time to be involved with One Tree Hill College. We certainly have students with exceptional talent and it is wonderful to see them show such pride in the school. THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD DENTAL CARE AND NUTRITION As the first NZ-born Chinese female to graduate from the University of Otago Dental School, Ellerslie Dentist Angela Lowe-Ho practised locum Dentistry before setting up in private practice. She says her first years of Dental practice were full clearance extractions and restoring with Dentures, and also treating Dental Benefit children with amalgam mercury fillings! Fortunately with advances in dentistry over the years such things are no longer commonplace.
Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere Chinese Proverb Angela in deep concentration advancing her hands on practical skills with Hungarian Master Dental Technician/Ceramist Szabolcs Hant

CREATING THE LONG TERM BENEFITS FROM DENTISTRY YOU DESIRE - Mirjana
Angela is an absolute angel! I had issues with a wisdom tooth that flared up occasionally. This time was different, the pain was getting worse and I knew I had to get it sorted. I hadn’t been to the dentist since arriving in NZ 5 years ago. Initially I went to the hospital as they do extractions but it wasn’t simple and they couldn’t touch it, the tooth was too far into the side of my gum and my cheek and to far back, sending me away to find an oral surgeon or dentist Angela, recommended to me by a friend with serious wisdom teeth issues also, explained everything to me in plain English, exactly what was possible and what she could do for me and said that although, complicated, she could definitely help me. She was informative the whole way through and told me exactly what she was doing at every point - initiating a ‘thumbs up’ system where by I would give her the thumbs up if it was ok for her to have another go at the tooth. She administered the anesthetic so well, that I didn’t need her to stop. After predicting around 50 pulls - she did it in 12!! (she’s strong too!) I was so overwhelmed afterwards I cried - with relief and Ana and Angela were so caring with me and reassuring me the whole time. Angela really cares about your overall dental health and not just getting the job done on the day. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and highly recommend her services. For anyone nervous - don’t hesitate in contacting Angela for advice, you will not be disappointed plus I feel great the day after my extraction. Just a dull ache and a bit tired, but considering the complicated procedure I’m seriously impressed! Thank you Angela - Valerie

ellerslie theatrical society
W
e opened the year in March with Proof, although it seems like a lifetime ago, written by David Auburn and meticulously crafted by director Carl Drake. It was skillfully played out by an engaging cast of four. The back-yard set was designed by Keith Harding who, along with a team from Men’s Shed Auckland East and theatre company members, spent many hours putting it together. Like many theatres around the country, the arrival of a pandemic meant we had to close Proof after only four performances leaving many people disappointed that they didn’t get to see it. Anna Adam, our president, said that after spending seventeen years ensuring that shows opened it was a tough call to close but, it was the safest decision for everyone involved. While Ellerslie War Memorial Hall (Stables Theatre) remains closed by Auckland Council we can put on further shows. We have decided to cancel all remaining advertised plays for 2020 but we are hoping we will be able to remount Proof in November. You can get regular email updates about Proof, future productions, the society AGM and other activities by signing up to our mailing list. Just visit www.ellerslietheatre.co.nz and click on Sign Up under Mailing List on the front page, alternatively you can email info@ellerslietheatre.co.nz or call Rona Colbert at the theatre on 09 525 3336. To keep our costs down we have moved to email newsletters, however if you would prefer to receive a posted newsletter please call Rona Colbert to arrange for a printed newsletter.

You don’t have to be a member to receive updates but your membership subscription would help the theatre in a number of ways by increasing our numbers for grant applications and similar, financially helping and, if you are interested, getting involved with production activities. The cost is only $10 for a senior or student and $20 for an adult. Membership forms and details are on the theatre website under membership or you can call Rona Colbert for assistance. All new volunteers and members are welcome. A combination of venue hire increases by Auckland Council and closing Proof early, has left our funds very low. Additionally we do not believe, with the current social distancing requirements, we will be able to cover the costs of creating a show solely from ticket sales. David Blakey, our secretary, is working hard to secure grants and funding for venue hire and operating costs so that we can continue to put on local shows that you can afford. We’re a passionate and strong band of volunteers and we just need some help facing the challenge of putting on shows and raising funds while coping with the uncertainty of social gatherings during a pandemic and a closed theatre. Looking ahead, next year we will have our bi-annual Ellerslie Festival of One Act Plays. This is your opportunity to finish that play you were thinking about writing, or present that great play you’ve always wanted to direct. You can find details about the festival on our website.

ellerslie play centre
H
ow often do you hear “Mum.. Dad… what are we going to do today?”
Playcentre is the answer. Providing a vivid, stimulating and engaging learning environment for many families, Playcentre is a safe place for children to be creative, explore and develop their own relationships and social skills in a mixed age setting. Children get to experience all those fun activities that can be difficult to provide at home because of the mess or expense, endless painting, water play, playing with clay and playdough as some examples.
If you are wanting to learn ways to be the best first educator for your child, Playcentre is your village! Playcentre is not only a place offering early childhood education for children, but also a source of free education for parents where families learn positive ways to guide and coach their children through their development. Ellerslie Playcentre parents enjoy learning ways to extend their child's learning and grow their curiosity while they also grow in confidence in a fun and supportive community. including Oscar, Tyler, Cameron and Kieran who have graduated and moved on to primary school. We will miss having their friendship, fun and invaluable knowledge with us day to day, however, we know that they will thrive at school with all the great skills they have learnt at Playcentre. With the Level 2 and now Level 1 Covid-19 status, Ellerslie Playcentre reopened and our families have been thrilled to return to all the fun we offer such as playdough, goop, mixing potions, playing shop, gymnastics, sand pit fun, music, carpentry, box sliding, painting, crafts, dress ups and more! If you would like to visit Playcentre and to see what we are all about - we would love to hear from you! Children aged birth to 5 Years and their caregivers can enjoy three free visits during the school term.

eeping children entertained during lockdown was a real challenge for many families and as a Toy Library we really felt for those who were stuck without our usual supply of new toys. In an effort to help out, our team endeavoured to share daily hints and ideas for at-home play. From painting with water guns with food colouring through to making racetracks on the kitchen floor, we hoped to provide some relief.

It's great to finally be at level 2; working around the restrictions will take a little extra effort, but everyone has been really understanding of the new rules which are mostly just around restricting numbers in the library building at any one time, as well as increased toy washing efforts. We keep in contact with members so if anyone is having difficulty returning toys on time or paying fees we have plenty of ways to help out. NEW TOY ALERT: A very popular new edition is the Pikler triangle and ramp by Joybox. It’s proven popular because it's so easy to use as young children start testing their strength and balance abilities and is appealing for everyone between 6 months and 5 years. New members are always welcome and if you would like to trial a membership at the Ellerslie Toy Library we offer a one month trial membership for $20. Get in touch or follow us on Facebook today. G
reetings from the Ellerslie Residents Association!
What a tumultuous couple of months it has been! We hope you have all come through the lockdown well both physically and mentally, and ready to take on the challenges of the recovery. One thing we’ve noticed during the lockdown is how the amazing community spirit in Ellerslie manifested itself in various ways. Residents have used the time in their bubbles to do good for everyone else, such as the numerous teddy bears and Easter eggs displayed in windows, and the family that decorated the Michaels Ave Reserve loop path with 107 chalk poppies for Anzac Day. Another example is how people have acknowledged the shared challenges, being so supportive of each other either when connecting on the community Facebook page or while out getting exercise and enjoying the native bird song. On that note, the large number of families walking and biking while the streets were free of cars was amazing to see. It reinforces our determination to keep working to improve pedestrian and cycling safety in Ellerslie, as there is clearly so much demand and interest. Despite the lockdown, there has also been positive progress in community infrastructure projects. The train station access path between Hewson and Findlay Streets is being repaved to over double the previous width, and the tunnel has been freshly cleaned. Together with the LED street lights on long arms providing bright, consistent light, this well-formed path provides much safer access to Ellerslie Station, just in time for winter. Footpath replacement is also moving ahead, with Harrod and Findlay Streets looking great. Thanks to Auckland Transport, the Ōrākei Local Board, the NZTA, and the Ellerslie Village Business Association for getting these amenity and safety upgrades done! At the same time, the ERA keeps working to help make this Auckland’s most liveable suburb. Many local residents have
By way of celebrating the return to almost normal living your committee decided we would have a special morning tea , so we could relax and enjoy something we had not had to cook ourselves. We also slightly changed our programme so there was plenty of time to chat with friends we had not seen for some time. commented that they used the lockdown to organise items at home, identifying unused – but difficult to dispose of – electronic devices and appliances as they went. Happily, we're planning an e-waste collection so Ellerslie residents can recycle those old devices and make the precious resources in them go another round. Watch the ERA Facebook page for details! We’ve also been listening to you about things you’d like done in Ellerslie. For example, residents around Michaels Ave Reserve often comment that they are reluctant to use this gem of a park in the mornings or evenings because of the poor state of path lighting. In spite of the current dynamic budgetary circumstances, we're engaging with the Council to try and move this project forward as best as possible. Despite the COVID-19-induced cancellation of our March public meeting, we’re still working on community consultation about the Ōrākei Local Board Plan. Thanks everyone for engaging on the ŌLB website! The Plan is a critical document for the long-term future of our area, and we hope to bring you news of another meeting in the near future. Finally, the Ellerslie Songbird Project continues undiminished. If you want to be part of the renaissance of native birds in Ellerslie, please get in touch and get involved in predator control. The bird song during the quiet of lockdown was something to behold, and we believe that the best is yet to come. Register your interest at ellersliesongbird.co.nz/join-us/ To conclude, we achieve more when more residents work together! Please give us your ideas about how to make a positive contribution to Ellerslie at facebook.com/ EllerslieResidentsAssociation/ or ellerslieresidents@gmail.com Keep well all, Glen McCabe Chair, Ellerslie Residents Association
As we were still at level 2 and still restricted to social distancing, it has been too difficult to arrange our usual fourth Friday outing. Too much excitement could be overwhelming! However we will have a mid winter lunch at Waipuna Lodge on Friday 24th July. It was fun discussing what we had done differently during the lockdown. Some of us have extremely clean and tidy homes, some have found half forgotten memories tucked away in dark corners, some of us have walked and cycled much more than usual and are feeling fit and full of resolve to continue. With winter approaching? We’ll check in 6 month's time. If you know anyone who is toying with the idea of joining an organisation bring them to our Waipuna Lodge lunch. This is a good time to meet us, discover over a tasty lunch that we really are a friendly bunch and would be fun to join. Just let us know so we can let Waipuna know how many to cater for. Our games mornings at the Christ Church hall in Ladies Mile have not restarted. Anyone can attend these mornings, you do not need to be a Probian. Rummi Cub and Mah Jong are the favourite games but others are available. It is a fun morning and definitely not competitive. Just turn up at 10a.m. prepared to have fun until 12p.m. with $3 to cover the hall hire and morning tea. You will be warmly welcomed. For more information ring Maureen 520 7403 or Kevin Stanley, our president, 5792238.
Homewares, international fashion, baby + kids, gifts, groceries, art - our retail offering is second to none. We’re open 7 days, plus there is plenty of free parking.
