Service Learning Community bELONg to Elon's first living-learning community! LIVE THE LEGACY Becoming a part of the SLC is an opportunity to join a vibrant network of past SLC members. As an SLC member, you will be able to connect with upper-class students and alumni who will become not only close friends, but also strong mentors. Many SLC members go on to hold leadership positions within other service organizations in the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement or serve as officers for other student groups on campus. Further, SLC alumni have continued to commit themselves to leadership and service beyond their time at Elon through AmeriCorps, Teach for America, and the Peace Corps.

All members of the SLC live together on the second floor of Virginia residence hall. Located in the Historic Neighborhood , this co-ed residence hall consists of two rooms connected by a bathroom and separated by gender. In addition to the original first-year student orientation, there is a special introductory experience for SLC students and the opportunity to move in 3 days earlier in order to begin creating bonds that will last beyond your first year at Elon.

SO HOW DO I JOIN? To apply to live in the SLC, complete the Learning Community section of the online housing application during First-Year Student Housing Selection, available online May 2-23.

Service Learning Community A community of students dedicated to learning about the world around them and making a difference!

What is a living-learning community? A living-learning community is a group of students living in the same residential area who interact academically and socially with each other, staff, and faculty. Students in these communities participate in numerous activities that allow them to explore their shared area of interest. Who are we? The Service Learning Community is a group of 14 first-year students who share a common interest in service learning. As a floor, we create lifelong bonds while learning to examine the meaning of our service. We strive to make service an integrated part of life. The SLC is also a great starting point for leadership opportunities on campus, especially with Elon Volunteers! and other serviceoriented groups. The SLC is a diverse group of people who have different interests, majors, familiarity with service, and much more. Our dynamic community makes the SLC unique to the Elon experience and encourages students to develop personal and organizational ties that will last throughout their years at Elon.

“The best choice I made when entering Elon was choosing to be in the Service Learning Community. I know that the second I enter the hall, I will be greeted by a family who loves me. Each person on this hall is driven, sincere, caring, and genuinely wants to make a difference in the world.”

-Eryn, Former SLC member

The SLC provides both, a feat which no other opportunity on campus can say. In short--the SLC is about doing two things: making us smile and spreading that smile to others.”
