Ely Wildspace has hosted a heronry since 2013. It can be viewed in trees on the far side of the river near the ‘kissing gate’ on the riverside path past the railway bridge. Although the nests are relatively obvious when the trees are leafless, the sitting birds can be hard to see. By May the young herons begin to resemble spikyhaired punks and some will have hopped out of the nest onto the branches of the tree, impatiently waiting to be fed by their parents. Ely Wildspace Group monitors this heronry weekly from March to June. The breeding records are submitted annually to the long-running British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) Heronry Census.
ELY WILDSPACE HERONRY Despite being a familiar bird of the Wildspace, the grey heron is easy to overlook as it moves stealthily through shallow water hunting its largely aquatic prey. Whilst hunting they can remain motionless with their necks extended for long periods before lunging forward to grab their prey with their long dagger-like bill. Grey herons breed early in the year, both sexes arriving back at the heronry (they usually breed colonially) as early as February. The nests are built in trees and made of thick sticks. These can range from surprisingly small platforms to large substantial nests that have been added to over the years.
4 | Elyi Magazine | www.elyimagazine.com
Last year ten nests were identified, but occupancy could not be determined before the lockdown brought monitoring to a halt. If you would like to be involved in Ely Wildspace activities or find out more about upcoming Wildspace events visit www.elywildspace.org.uk.

Preparing your garden tools for spring With spring just around the corner, you might be itching to get outside and work on your garden. To get a head start whilst you wait for the weather to change, bring your garden tools out of hibernation and start preparing them for spring. 1. Remove rust on all tools If you spot patches of rust on your tools, it might be because the metal on your machines has been exposed to chemicals in the air. Not only can this damage your tools, but it doesn’t look appealing, either. Remove light rust on your tools by rubbing the area with a wire brush or a piece of sandpaper. They’ll soon look as good as new! 2. Replenish oil and fuel Before your garden tools went into winter storage, you should’ve drained all excess oil and fuel. So, before cracking them out in the spring, you’ll need to replenish any oil and fuel in your machines. If you didn’t drain them, do it now and then replace. Old oil and fuel can cause damage.
3. Sharpen all blades. If you didn’t sharpen the blades on your garden power tools before they went into storage, now’s the time to do it. You should also clean the chain on your chainsaw.

4. Have your garden tools professionally serviced Are your garden tools not performing well? If they’ve been out of action for a while, it might be a great idea to get them professionally serviced. This can help extend the life of your machines and improve efficiency. If you’ve brought your garden tools out of hibernation and they’re not looking like they’re in great condition, don’t worry. We have a range of fully refurbished garden tools that will set you up for a great summer of gardening. For refurbished machines or repairs and maintenance, get in touch with Fenland Spirit Services, 28 Ten Mile Bank, Littleport, CB6 1EE or call 0775 383 6499.

The Changing Gardens
Face
of
Modern gardens are generally very different from post WW2 “dig for victory” gardens home to rows of potatoes, beans and currants; and separated by hedges or chain link fences. Back then, few gardens were geared towards the leisure, privacy or careful design we see now. Despite a resurgence in grow your own, many gardens are dominated by low maintenance paving, gravel, or artificial grass so owners can spend more time on other pursuits. The demand for low maintenance is partly why Climar have seen their maintenance free, metal fencing, railings and sheds rise rapidly in popularity. ColourFence, popular in Australia for decades is gaining ground in the UK, spreading down streets as people see it, love the look and install in their own garden. When Storms sent John Pilkington’s garden fence across the lawn in pieces, he replaced it with ColourFence. John explained the reason behind the transition:

“We love our garden but are happy to swap maintenance for our real passion, caring for the garden birds and wildlife. When winds destroyed the timber fence my neighbour and I had lavished care (and paint) on over the years a family member suggested ColourFence. Initially, metal fencing sounded industrial, but photos convinced us to get a quote. We eventually opted for a brown ColourFence and it looks similar to the fence it replaced – only new! The bright side is it won’t blow away and is guaranteed to look great for 25 years!”

CITY OF ELY COUNCIL
Update VOLUNTEERING IN SUPPORT OF CITY OF ELY COUNCIL YOUR CITY COUNCIL NEEDS YOU!
We have always enjoyed the support of local volunteers and as we surface from the effects of the pandemic this is going to be as important as ever to aid the recovery of the loacl environment and economy.
I want to volunteer so how can i get involved? Local volunteers help directly to run our CCTV system, manage our allotments, put up and take down our Christmas lights, and organize the Christmas light switch on. They support us through participating in things like Speedwatch, Neighbourhood Watch, the Ely-Ribe group, or with community litter-picking. As a volunteer you can become a ‘Friend of Ely Cemetery’, a Friend of the Sessions House, or a Friend of Oliver Cromwell House and in so doing support the work at these important city landmarks. We rely on volunteers to report problems on our behalf to the District or County Council. They also take part in Covid 19 support activities. You could even become a City Councillor, or be co-opted onto some of the Council’s working groups. Whilst training is needed to participate in CCTV surveillance or Speedwatch. Some skills are learnt by just taking part in the various activities mentioned. All activities can benefit from the skills that volunteers bring to the table. Volunteering can also take different forms. Helping to keep up the social media profile of a charity or group you want to support, to setting up a Mutual Aid local support group in response to the coronavirus pandemic. SUNDAY, 21st MARCH 2021 WHAT IS THE CENSUS? The census has been in place since 1801. It is undertaken every 10 yrs and provides a complete picture of the nation. It allows the comparison of different groups of people across the UK, as the same questions are asked and the information recorded in the same way throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. WHY IS THE INFORMATION COLLECTED? By collecting information from every household, a unique and detailed snapshot is taken of modern life, documenting the lifestyle and characteristics of the population. This information will help the Government develop policies, plan and run public services and allocate public funding, such as doctors’ surgeries, roads and education.
After 100 years, census records are released to the public. These provide a wealth of information for genealogists, historians and family tree enthusiasts. Without the census the lives and lifestyles of our ancestors would remain undocumented, making historical research much more difficult. DOES EVERYONE HAVE TO TAKE PART? Yes, this is a legal requirement for every household to complete the census. WHAT WILL I BE ASKED? The census collects a wide range of demographic information, so there will be a range of questions about topics like age, sex, marital status, health, education and housing. HOW WILL IT BE UNDERTAKEN THIS YEAR, ESPECIALLY AS WE ARE IN A PANDEMIC? Census 2021 is a digital-first census, which means that people will be encouraged to respond online if they can. You will be able to complete the census using any device, including your mobile phone or tablet. There will be help online in the help area on the census website or by telephone, webchat, email, social media or text. Your friends and family can also help you complete the questionnaire, but this must be undertaken within the current Government guidelines. WHAT IF I DO NOT HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY TO UNDERTAKE THE CENSUS ONLINE? Paper questionnaires can be requested for those that need them as they are unable to undertake the census online.
ELY MAYOR SUE AUSTEN January and February have whizzed by, even though we are now in our third lockdown. The nights are slowly starting to stay lighter longer and the weather is improving. The vaccination programme in our area is going wonderfully well, with so many people, including volunteers ensuring the roll out of this can happen and run as smoothly as possible. Thank you to everyone involved. Please do your bit by taking up the offer of having a vaccination, when called by your GP, to do so. The only way to help reduce the cases and risks to others, is to ensure as many people as possible have the vaccine. I know that with going back into another lockdown this may have resulted in many people feeling alone and isolated again. If you know of anyone that is in these circumstances, please give them a ring and catch up with them. A short chat with another person, can stop people from feeling so alone. If you need support, in any way, whether it be practical or emotional, you can contact the Ely Community Covid-19 Mutual Aid Group, through Facebook or by ringing 07557 470098, 07774433626, 01353 665815 or 01353 663928.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? Every household will receive a postcard telling them that the census is coming. This should arrive from the 22nd February onwards. From the 3rd13th March, every household will receive a pack telling them how to join in and how to undertake the census. Please do not throw this information away, it is very important. The census takes place on Sunday, 21st March 2021.
Following the Prime minister’s announcements on the 22nd February, we now have a clear timeframe for moving forward. All outdoor play equipment, which we had to close, will re-open on the 29th March. This will enable it to be enjoyed by all, once again. The City of Ely Council hopes to re-open Oliver Cromwell’s House and the Maltings on the 17th May, allowing residents and visitors to the City to enjoy these wonderful venues.
IT IS IMPORTANT, PLEASE TAKE PART The City of Ely Council would encourage all parishioners to take part and complete the census. The information collected will benefit everyone, as it will help fund and plan services within our area. So please make sure you take part.
The timelines are all subject to review and dependant on certain conditions being met. Therefore, we all have a responsibility to carry on following the guidelines to ensure the best possible chance of these dates being achieved. Please continue to support each other and keep the wonderful community spirit that has developed across our parish, alive. Stay safe. www.elyimagazine.com | Elyi Magazine | 21
A FAIRYTALE WEDDING FOR THE COUPLE BEHIND SPOTTED IN ELY Written by Tali Iserles Photos: James Billings Photography Printed with kind permission: Spotted in Ely
Mark Cooney and Alison Powell tied the knot on Thursday 4th February. It was livestreamed by over 15,000 people around the globe via Facebook Live.
Accompanied by bridesmaids Annie-May and Summer, Mark’s daughters, and her friend Verity, Alison made her entrance to Richard Wagner’s Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin.
Speaking the next day, Alison said the newly-weds had been “completely overwhelmed and blown away” by the kindness shown by Spotted in Ely’s followers, their friends and the local community, “The love and support has been amazing.” Their wedding had been expedited, following the devastating news last month that Mark has terminal cancer. Alison entering with friend, Verity and Mark’s daughters, Annie-May and Summer.
The Very Reverend Mark Bonney, conducting the marriage service. The Dean of Ely, the Very Reverend Mark Bonney, had pulled out the stops to ensure a wedding could be held inside Ely Cathedral for a couple who had dedicated years of service to the city. A drizzly afternoon did not dampen spirits, with socially distanced well-wishers gathering outside to watch Alison arrive shortly before 3pm on Thursday, February 4th – coincidentally and poignantly, also World Cancer Day. 22 | Elyi Magazine | www.elyimagazine.com
Mark said: “I caught a glimpse of Alison down the knave and I just melted at that point. Thankfully Les, my best man, had put a hankie in my pocket. When Alison reached me at the high altar, I could see how nervous she was, shaking like a leaf, so I took her hand and we both seemed a lot calmer. She looked stunning in her dress and that’s thanks to Zoie at Hearts Brides.” Alison admitted feeling very emotional as she entered the cathedral. “I was trying not to cry walking down the aisle, and Verity was saying calmly, ‘just breathe’ – but I was shaking when I got to Mark and I could tell he’d been crying – so much emotion. He took my hand and I instantly felt relieved.”
“Love is at the heart of what we’re about today” Love was a recurring theme throughout the wedding ceremony, with The Very Reverend Mark Bonney saying that although attendees inside the cathedral were limited to “six or seven”, due to covid restrictions, there were thousands more attending virtually. The Dean of Ely, who performed the ceremony, said love was often misinterpreted but that God’s love could not help but overflow and give. “Today it’s that self giving, overflowing love that we celebrate. It’s a love that you both already know quite a good deal about. If you hadn’t already shown some of that overflowing love to one another and to others, there wouldn’t be so many people joining us virtually today or accidentally having their daily walk at the same time as you arrive and leave the cathedral. Although there are only a handful of us here in this wonderful place, a sign itself of a response of the love of God…there are lots more joining us out there and surrounding you both at this time with love, responding to your overflowing love with overflowing love in return.” Before the couple made their vows and exchanged rings, the Dean said: “Alison and Mark, my prayer for you today is that that love will sustain and strengthen you now and in the time ahead.”
to sink in. We had never, ever imagined getting married there, so even to have the opportunity made it so much more special.” A dream wedding for Mark and Alison
Alison added: “I never imagined in a million years that we would get married in Ely Cathedral! It’s such an iconic building. It felt pretty amazing and like a fairytale you dream of as a child.” Despite the traditional setting, the couple made the wedding very much their own, choosing their beloved pet Labrador, Ellie (a celebrity in her own right) as ring bearer. James Billings was the photographer for the day, with former Mayor of Ely, Michael Rouse also photographing the ceremony.
The Very Reverend Mark Bonney, with groom, Mark Cooney Speaking afterwards, Mark thanked the Dean for going above and beyond in arranging the special ceremony at such short notice – with no charge. After his prognosis on January 12th, the Dean was one of the first people Mark had reached out to. Mark said: “I needed someone to talk to that evening and Mark [Bonney] had always extended that helping hand. While talking to him I had said Alison had one wish. He knew instantly what that wish was and he and Cannon James Reveley just made it happen. Was it what we expected? No, it was much more and the meaning has really yet
Mark and Alison’s pet dog, Ellie as ring bearer. Chasing Cars One of the more unusual music choices at the wedding was an organ rendition of “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol. Mark explained that he and Alison had frequently heard the song covered by local rock bands and its lyrics had resonated with them. He said: “I was really pleased that the organist Glen agreed to play it – and oh wow, did he play www.elyimagazine.com | Elyi Magazine | 23
it! Austen, a friend of mine, messaged me later in the day and said, ‘Only you can get Ely Cathedral to play Chasing Cars on the organ!’ It made me laugh.” Alison added: “I’ve always loved the song and when I first moved this way, back in 2015, I found the quote ‘If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world’ on a wooden board in a shop in Cambridge. It only cost me £5 but it sits in our bedroom so I read it every day.” She recalled hearing local band Blue Thunder playing a cover of it in Wilburton,“It gave Mark and myself goosebumps, it was so amazing!” Appy Couple They say you find love in the strangest of places – the couple first met about six years ago after Mark saw a request on an app, asking for help making a Facebook page for Alison’s cartoon character, Timothy Tortoise. Alison said: “After he had created the page I just had to speak to him, so I rang him to thank him.” They instantly clicked, and shortly after went to see Boyzone perform in Birmingham. “Yes Boyzone,” Mark admits. “Not our first choice but was fun.” The following month, they enjoyed a weekend in Alison’s hometown, watching a Six Nations rugby tournament between Wales and Italy. Alison said: “I sent Mark a Timothy Tortoise Valentine’s card and that was it, we were an item.” Mark actually proposed to Alison after she took part in a 5k Pretty Muddy Race for Life in Cardiff that July. The rest, as they say was history – apart from the minor issue of 200 or so miles separating Alison’s home near Abergavenny from Ely in Cambridgeshire. This was resolved when Alison made the move to the Fens, getting a job as a teaching assistant at King’s Ely. Spotting Ely for the first time Alison recalls falling in love with the Isle of Eels during her first visit to the city, about six years ago. “We ate cakes from Betty Marshmallow, walked around Ely seeing the sights and I loved seeing the big skies and ‘a thousand trees’ (Stereophonics song) at Barchams on the A142 and that view of Ely Cathedral as you drive over the hill at Stuntney is still my favourite!” She remembers a romantic walk around Ely riverside and the country park, impressed that there was “so much wildlife so close to the city centre.” 24 | Elyi Magazine | www.elyimagazine.com
Spotted in Ely Alison first met Mark shortly after he had set up Spotted in Ely, a Facebook page aimed at uniting the local community. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength, and now has over 26,000 followers. Spotted in Ely’s new radio station includes former BBC Radio Cambridgeshire folk legend, Sue Marchant. As well as providing content for Spotted in Ely, Mark and Alison have helped livestream countless events for Ely Cathedral – so hosting their wedding in the iconic building was their way of saying thank you. Ely College have launched the Mark Cooney Community Spirit Award to celebrate students’ contributions to the local community. Mark has been “blown away” by the kindness and love he has received since making his prognosis public in January. Sharing their wedding via livestream had meant a lot to them both. Mark said: “I’m just really pleased we could let people in on our special day. The numbers didn’t matter to me but yes, the viewing figures are unbelievable. And for those who braved the weather – a massive thank you, it was lovely to see you all.” A blessing day is due to be held in Wales when covid travel restrictions are lifted. A fundraising page has been set up by close friend Sally Bibby, to help the Cooneys make precious memories and assist with Mark’s cancer treatment. Any extra money raised will go towards Spotted in Ely’s future costs. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER (A Women-led, Global, Ecumenical Movement) FRIDAY 7th MAY 2021, 1.30pm at St Mary’s Church, Ely Build on a Strong Foundation The World Day of Prayer is an international, interchurch organisation which enables us to hear the thoughts of women from all parts of the world: their hopes, concerns and prayers.
The Day of Prayer is celebrated in over 170 countries. It begins in Samoa – with prayer in native languages, travelling throughout the world – through Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas, before finishing in American Samoa.
We have had to rearrange the Service from 5th March to Friday 7th May, which this year has been prepared by women of Vanuatu (located in the South Pacific Ocean), with the theme ‘Build on a Strong Foundation’.
Come and join in with the local service in Ely, taking place at St Mary’s Church Ely, starting at 1.30pm. Why not come along and find out more about the theme and Vanuatu?
The beaches, coral reefs with fishes, lovely birds and fruits in the forest, all make the islands a pristine environment, but they are vulnerable to frequent tropical storms, earthquakes, cyclones, tsunamis and active volcanoes. Women, men and children of all ages are called to ‘Build on a Strong Foundation’ and live in unity, love and peace in the context of ethnic and cultural diversity like Vanuatu, and so many other places around the world.

THE DRIVE TO BRIDGE THE DIGITAL DIVIDE Home based learning has become the new reality – but for a very significant proportion of our children this form of education is inaccessible.
Huntingdon, Peterborough and Wisbech are ready to collect your devices. 2.Sainsbury’s supermarket (Ely only).
Families are not always able to afford the appropriate technology that allows online learning to take place. Many children are sharing single devices between several siblings. A number are trying their best to learn from their mobile phones. The consequences are children and young people falling behind, anxiety and distress for children and parents, and huge additional pressures on schools, teachers and educators. The Cambs Youth Panel is in partnership with Cambridge 2030 and the Cambridgeshire Digital Partnership have launched a countywide drive against Digital Inequality – ‘The Digital Drive’. The project is simple in nature: take in donations of old technology, restore it to a professional standard and manage delivery to those in need. And you can help! 1.Devices. Check your desktop/laptop/device meets the minimum specification (specifications can be checked by visiting www.cambsyouthpanel.co.uk) then take it to your local drop-off point. 2.Make a financial donation - there are two ways of doing this: a.Through Cambs Youth Panel's Go Fund Me page. Donations here go toward tools and technology needed to refurbish donated devices. b.Cambridgeshire County Council and Peterborough City Council's joint Go Fund Me page will go towards purchasing new laptops and securing internet access and data for children and young. Internet access for each child is around £40, plus £20/month for unlimited data. A suitable laptop costs around £325. 3.Purchase and donate a component: This can be done from the Cambs Youth Panel's Amazon Wish List here the list is made up of pieces needed to refurbish the donated computers. Where to drop your device off 1.Your local Library. Library’s in Ely, Cambridge (Milton Rd site), 30 | Elyi Magazine | www.elyimagazine.com
Volunteer your time and/or expertise. The Cambs Youth Panel is looking for willing computer enthusiasts, with current DBS checks, to help with laptop refurbishment in Peterborough, Huntingdon, Wisbech, Ely and Cambridge. The project is also seeking volunteer drivers to collect computers and deliver them to schools.

Ely Family Gaming Ely Family Gaming is a new group for lighthearted and sociable board gaming suitable for families in the area of Ely.
ELY YOUTH CHOIR
MONDAYS AT 6 P.M. IN TERM TIME Our weekly rehearsals continue on Zoom until COVID-secure in-person activities are allowed again next term.
We primarily focus on modern board games such as Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne and have a particular fondness for co-operative games. We are parents of young children and the group is intended to support parents in making social connections through board gaming and - hopefully as our membership expands - to support families who would like to try board gaming. Under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Membership is entirely free and all our events are currently online. Join either through Meetup (https://www. meetup.com/ely-family-gaming/) or Facebook (search groups for Ely Family Gaming).
Our Musical Director Andrew Parnell keeps the group focused on learning and developing, working towards live performances in the summer term. There’s a wide range of music from Handel to Hairspray. There are no auditions, no fees and it’s specially for people of secondary school age. More info from youth@elychoralsociety.org Ely Youth Choir is part of Ely Choral Society, Reg. Charity 802308.

Let's congratulate our Ely youngsters!
Hats off & huge hurrahs for St Mary’s Church, Ely who raised £10,000+ for lifesaving loos last year. As well as making gifts and offerings, some members of the congregation did their own fundraising. We must mention brothers William & Alexander who walked 500 miles between them last summer & raised more than £1,000 because, they felt, 'no one should be without a toilet'. Couldn't agree more!
Many congratulations to Miriam Reveley of the Girl Choristers at Ely Cathedral who has passed her Associateship of the Royal College of Organists' diploma (ARCO). It's highly unusual for organists to achieve this diploma while still at school. The RCO diplomas are the world's most coveted and prestigious qualifications for organists. It's very exciting news and everyone at Ely Cathedral is very proud. Miriam is the King’s Ely and Ely Cathedral Sixth Form Organ Scholar. Last year she was awarded her CRCO diploma (becoming a Colleague of the Royal College of Organists) and today is was announced that she has been successful in the ARCO examination (Associate of the Royal College of Organists). Miriam has been a student at King’s Ely since joining in Year 9 as a girl chorister. She is currently studying Music, History, and Religious Studies at A Level. Miriam hopes to take a gap year as Organ Scholar at Dean Close School and Tewkesbury Abbey before reading Music as an Organ Scholar at University and pursuing a career in music 32 | Elyi Magazine | www.elyimagazine.com

Starting up again from April 12th!
Willow, who is in Year 3 at King’s Ely Junior, decided she wanted to do something to bring cheer to residents at Terrington Lodge Care Home in Norfolk, which is near where she lives. Willow received a cheese advent calendar for Christmas instead of the usual chocolate one and thought what better way to make the residents smile than by writing letters to them along with some really grate (!) cheese jokes. In her letter to one resident, Willow wrote: “I wanted to do something nice for people who might not be able to get out and about so easily at the moment, and to try and make them laugh. I love cheese jokes and I hope you like yours! As you can see, you can tear your joke off and share it with others where you live so you can all make each other laugh. I will not brie-lieve it if you don’t smile at these jokes! I wish you all a happy cheese-tastic time this week.” Willow enjoyed delivering her letters and jokes to the care home so much that she is planning to hand-write and deliver (socially distanced of course) different themed jokes to the residents each week until lockdown eases. Victoria Harrison, Deputy Home Manager at Terrington Lodge, said: “The residents here very much enjoyed hearing Willow’s cheese jokes! It was a lovely gesture by Willow, which both the staff and residents found very thoughtful.” Photos: Kings Ely & Willow www.elyimagazine.com | Elyi Magazine | 33
HOW TO REMEMBER WHAT YOU LEARN (or how to use forgetting to your advantage)
Do you find that when you learn something you then forget it and need a reminder? It might surprise you to know that this is how our brains are wired! Did you know that research shows that within one hour you forget 50% of what you learn? How do we learn to remember what we are taught? You need to keep going over things so that they get embedded in your memory and you are able to recall it really easily. The Forgetting Curve, a concept detailed by Hermann Ebbinghaus, shows us the effect of revision on the amount we remember about a topic. You’ll see from the curve the more times you go over something the easier it is to remember it. Whatever year group your young person is in, they need to repeat their learning. Some of the ways they can do this are:
•
Liz Taylor founded Skills4Parents after a career of 16 years in teaching and 11 years as a head of maths.
•
• Her mission is to help parents with the education of their young people. Liz supports parents through a free Facebook group, resources, workshops and advice. See www.skills4parents.co.uk for more information.
•
After they have learned a topic, do a couple of questions on it with them. Two weeks later do another couple of questions three weeks later again to another couple of questions and so on. Keep record cards with what they’ve learnt and get them to go over a few of them each day. As they keep going, the pile gets bigger but they keep going over it and the distance between the topic cards increases. Buy some workbooks and do a little bit together each week. There are plenty of websites and apps with games for different areas of maths; use these to go over some of the maths concepts they have been studying that week.
For more information on this, go to www.skills4parents.co.uk and get my free e-book ‘6 Top Tips Guaranteed to Help Your Child Remember Their Learning’. You’ll also find there my guide to websites, books and apps for studying Maths, and much much more!

EDUCATION
Ely Lifelong Learners New course beginning in April. Portrait of the Artist as a Film Icon is a five week course with tutor David Read. (Offered subject to current government guidelines)The lives of famous artists have long been considered ideal subjects for film biopics. They explore the relationship between art and the viewer and the historical and political context in which artists work. The course will
look at a number of films depicting the life and work of artists from different perspectives. Venue: The Countess Free Church, Chapel Street, Ely, CB6 1AD (parking for blue badge holders only) Starts: Wed April 14th 2021, 10:00am-12pm The Course fee is £50; payment by cheque only Group size limited to 28.
