Design Brief
When researching musical theatres in London I have realised there is a lack of these buildings being unique and original from the inside to the out. To be different from this, in this project I’ll be designing musical theatre combined with a opera house that will not only have a modern interior but a modern exterior which will be inspired by the theme movement and flow. My aim is to achieve a modern musical theatre/opera house to bring the community together and to increase tourism.
What my building will include:
Specification
• • • • • • •
A massive seating area fitting 3,000 people Stage & backstage area Front of house (reception): collect/purchase tickets (many entrances from either side of the building) Maybe café or bar Toilets Cloakroom Parking space
Transport links
Location for my building I have chosen this location for the musical theatre/opera house as it is a brown field site that could be good use for my building. Has good access to transport near by such as Greenwich underground and bus station just 10 minutes walk as this is shown in the bottom right image . This allows easy access to and from the theatre. The O2 text arena being 10 minute walk away gives many advantages as it has many food places and shops that can be visited just before you experience the musical dream. Another advantage is that the O2 attracts many tourists so this would benefit to them also coming down to the theatre. The image on the left has the location of theatres in London as you can see this is mainly located in central London therefore my location would be a great area as there isn’t any theatres located here.

Primary photos researching movement and flow structures
Here are my primary photo that I have taken in Canary Wharf. I have taken these photographs of different coloured lights around brunches and trees as I feel it relates to movement and flow. This will help me with generating ideas for my buildings and the stage of model making.

Models inspired by primary previous primary photos
dna This model was influenced by my precious primary photos that were taken in canary wharf. Here I have combined wire, plastic and furry wire to create a unique form and add colour to the model. I have twisted each of these around each other loosely to create a form that could potentially become a building. This will be a starting point for my building and from here I will develop my building by experimenting with it further.
