Thank you for coming to see our production of She Kills Mon sters by Qui Nguyen. I hope that you can see in it the same value and message that those of us in the cast and crew have. This show does not shy away from truth in its many forms even when it is through the voice of teens.
I got to see a college production of this play several years ago and it talked directly to me, even more so after my father passed from COVID last year. Tilly states,“But this story remains. And isn’t that essentially all that life is - a collection of stories?” And it is true, but in a greater sense isn’t that the story of all humanity? The stories of each of our lives weaving in and out of the stories of others. The stories that pass each other briefly. The stories that follow us our entire lives. All of history and all the aspects of life connecting each of us to one another. Hopefully this story will make you uncomfortable a little, make you talk a little, make you laugh a little, make you think a little, make you change a little, make you better a little. I’ll leave you with the words of Henri Frederic Amiel:“Life is short, and we do not have much time to gladden the hearts of those who make the journey with us. So be swift to love and make haste to be kind.”This is the story that you will tell the world and that the world will tell of you.
A group of acting friends introduced me to Dungeons & Drag ons about 3 years ago, soon after I started acting and doing theatre. I immediately felt drawn to the game. It allowed me to be someone else, if just for a little while. Free from the pressures of my job or the events of the day. It is improvisation, with some rules, and math. But mostly fun. D&D allows one to be the opposite of themselves, or even a truer version of them selves not constrained by the strictures of the day, or as in the case of this play, a version of themselves after death.
