BESPOKE, UNIQUE & BEAUTIFUL

WIG & PENS

Wig & Pens are based in the beautiful valleys of South Wales in the UK and are very rapidly becoming the pen of choice for the professional who wants to make a statement when seeing clients. They produce bespoke, ‘one off’ pens to rival any of the top brands. All pens are handmade individually and absolutely nothing is mass produced. Since establishing themselves last year they now boast an ever increasing international client base ranging from Diplomate, Ambassadors, famous Journalists and many members of the legal profession including the Judiciary. In fact, they recently sent a pen to a member of the judiciary of Qatar and that fountain pen is being utilised on a daily basis!

The business came into being in very unusual circumstances. Its founder, David Bentley-Miller, in addition to being a Solicitor-Advocate also suffers from Bi-polar disorder and it was a conversation with his doctor who suggested that making things can often provide a diversion and respite for when the low periods come. David decided to enrol at a local woodworking class one evening a week. Whilst at that class he set about making pens for himself to use at Court.

Unsurprisingly, other Lawyers were soon taking an interest in the pens when they saw them in Court and within a short time David was being asked to undertake commissions for them which proved to be successful. As his skills grew, David soon realised that the pen market was a pretty crowded place and he wanted to do something to differentiate himself from the hobbyists who appear at local craft fairs. This was not his market or indeed his target audience. Therefore, he set about designing pens, all of which are completely unique. They may look similar, but they will be different. The resin pens have random patterns in them that simply cannot be replicated with exactness. Additionally, there is the now famous Wig & Pens Historic Collection. This section really has started to become a great talking point amongst pen connoisseurs internationally as they stock wood from such sought after items as a WWII Mosquito fighter plane, the world famous Spitfire, 1860 Houses of Parliament refurbishment and also from the Tower of London itself to name but a few examples of materials that you can have turned into your very own piece of writing history.

In line with their bespoke nature, you can choose the colour of your pen working parts ranging from gunmetal, Gold, Chrome etc. In addition, they stock over 150 Fountain pen nib types from standard size 5 Bock nibs right up to Solid gold or Platinum. It truly is a bespoke service making the pen that looks and feels as individual as you. Naturally, a full laser engraving service is also available for those who want to give these beautiful pens to mark a special occasion.

INTRODUCING

MARISSA DENNIS

MARTHA STEWART’S COSMETIC ENHANCEMENTS UNVEILED

Martha Stewart, a household name recognized for her expertise in lifestyle, cooking, and home decor, has also become a herald for gracefully embracing the aging process while leveraging minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. Martha Stewart has recently opened up to discuss some of the treatments behind her seemingly ageless appearance This article delves into Stewart’s cosmetic regimen, exploring the non-surgical procedures she advocates for and her commitment to meticulous skincare.

In her podcast, Martha invites Dr. Belkin, a New York-based dermatologist to discuss her procedures over the past few years. Stewart starts the conversation by crediting healthy lifestyle choices as a major factor in preserving her appearance. She engages in regular exercise such as pilates and maintains a healthy diet. These two things are key factors in supporting overall health as we age and this is reflected in our appearances. Furthermore, she supplements according to her body needs. She addresses any vitamin or mineral deficiencies primarily with diet and then adds in oral supplementation as needed and monitors her blood levels regularly.

Incorporating unnecessary supplements into your diet can be counterproductive, as excess is typically expelled from the body. More alarmingly, the misuse of supplements could pose health risks, potentially causing harm or even organ damage.

Dr. Bellkin discusses the utilization of neurotoxins (commonly referred to as Botox©). These injections can temporarily reduce or eliminate facial fine lines and wrinkles by blocking nerve

signals that cause muscles to contract. Dr. Belkin has been treating Martha’s lower face helping to smooth and tighten her neck and jawline. When downward pulling facial muscles are relaxed, upward pulling muscles have an advantage, resulting in a “lifted” effect. Neurotoxins are often used in the upper face for frown lines or crow’s feet. The results from these injections generally last about three to six months.

Stewart and Belkin also explore the world of fillers. These are gel-like substances injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines, soften creases, or enhance facial contours. Typical dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. These are often used to plump lips or enhance cheeks. There is a widespread fear of looking overdone with these fillers. Although this can occur when fillers are overused or improperly placed, in the hands of an expert, injectable treatments are subtle and natural.. The effects usually last between twelve to eighteen months, depending on the type of filler used, the area treated, and the individual.

Dr. Belkin stated he has used bio-stimulants on Stewart in her cheeks and other areas to restore structure. Bio-stimulant injections, like those containing poly-L-lactic acid (Sculptra © ) or calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse © ), are designed to trigger the body to produce more collagen and elastin in the treated areas over time. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, bio-stimulants work gradually, with the full effects becoming noticeable after a series of treatments spread over a few months. This allows for subtle, natural-looking results that improve the skin’s texture and volume. Their effects can last for two years or more, depending on the individual and the product used.

MARISSA DENNIS 18
STATELY MAGAZINE 19

Another layer of Stewart’s regimen includes laser treatments. Lasers can target various skin concerns, including texture irregularities, fine lines, redness, and pigmentation issues. Dr. Belkin discusses the use of Fraxel© on Stewart, this is a technology that resurfaces the skin resulting in smoother and tighter skin. Fraxel© can also be used to treat pre-cancerous lesions. Other modalities Stewart has tried include Softwave© and Ultherapy©, these use ultrasound to stimulate collagen and plump the skin. Stewart’s glowing complexion can be partly attributed to such advanced skincare technologies

Lastly, Stewart emphasizes the role of a consistent skincare routine, incorporating high-quality products and regular facials. She underlines the importance of cleansing, moisturizing, and applying sun protection as daily essentials. Belkin adds that the use of retinol, peptides, and vitamin C are imperative in supporting skin health. It is important to use reputable brands that have scientifically-backed trials as some of these ingredients can be unstable or, if not formulated properly, may not penetrate into the skin. One brand that Stewart likes is Allastin© which is available at many physician or nurse practitioner-led clinics.

Throughout the conversation, both Stewart and Dr. Belkin highlight the importance of finding an ethical clinician who will recommend a treatment plan based on your concerns and not just sell you on trending technology. It is also key that your aesthetic provider has both an artistic eye and technical ability. If you are considering undergoing aesthetic procedures, ensure you find a practitioner whose vision and standards are in alignment with your goals.

Underscoring all of these treatments is Martha Stewart’s commitment to maintenance and consistency. Recognizing that the key to maximizing the benefits of non-surgical procedures lies in regular,

deliberate care, Stewart exemplifies how a holistic and sustained approach to beauty can defy the typical constraints of aging. Her strategy integrates carefully selected non-surgical aesthetic procedures with diligent skincare and a healthy lifestyle, leading to enduring beauty and confidence. This approach, marked by a harmonious balance between innovation and discipline, encapsulates a modern attitude towards beauty and aging—one that is both empowering and attainable.

INTRODUCING INTERIOR STYLIST

HANNAH THOMAS

MARTHA STEWART INSPIRED SPRING LIVING

Martha Stewart has long been synonymous with the art of domestic perfection. From exquisite dinner parties to meticulously organized spaces, her name evokes an image of homemaking that combines ease with elegance.

Drawing inspiration from Martha Stewart’s style, here is how to infuse her timeless aesthetic into home decor, creating spaces that are both beautiful and livable.

THE COLOUR PALETTE

Martha Stewart’s approach to color is rooted in the natural world, with a preference for soft, muted tones and an occasional pop of vibrant color. Think of seafoam greens, sky blues, sandy beiges, and gentle lavenders. These hues create a calm and inviting atmosphere in any room. Accent colors like deep navy or rich burgundy are often used sparingly, to add depth and interest without overwhelming the space.

TEXTURES AND FABRICS

Textures play a crucial role in Martha Stewart inspired decor. Linen, cotton, wool, and silk are favorites for their natural beauty and comfort. A combination of different textures for a layered look invites touch. For example, a linen sofa might be adorned with a mix of silk and wool pillows, creating a lush, tactile experience.

FURNITURE CHOICES

Furniture in a Martha Stewart inspired home blends form and function gracefully. Pieces are chosen not only for their appearance but also for their usefulness. Classic shapes in wood, metal, and glass are favored for their versatility and longevity.

A beautifully crafted wooden dining table, a wrought iron bed frame, or a glass-topped coffee table can serve as the focal point of a room, around which other elements harmoniously gather.

ORGANIZATION AND STORAGE

One of the hallmarks of Martha Stewart’s approach to home decor is impeccable organization. Every item has its place, and storage solutions are both practical and aesthetically pleasing.

Built-in shelves, wicker baskets, stylish filing systems, and decorative boxes not only help keep clutter at bay but also contribute to the overall design of the space.

Creative organization techniques, such as using beautiful jars for pantry storage or artfully arranging books by color, turn mundane tasks into decor opportunities.

NATURAL ELEMENTS

Bringing the outdoors in is a key component of Martha Stewart inspired decor. Fresh flowers, potted plants, and even branches or stones can add life and beauty to any room. These elements not only enhance the visual appeal of a space but also improve air quality and mood. A simple vase of wildflowers on the kitchen table or a lush fern in a living room corner can make a room feel more inviting and connected to nature.

Finally, personal touches are what truly transform a house into a home. Martha Stewart encourages the incorporation of personal and meaningful items into home decor. Family photos, heirloom pieces, and handmade objects add character and warmth, telling the story of the people who live there. These items are displayed in thoughtful arrangements that contribute to the overall aesthetic of the space.

Martha’s inspired home decor is about creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also functional and comfortable. By embracing a color palette inspired by nature, mixing textures, choosing furniture wisely, staying organized, incorporating natural elements, paying attention to lighting, and adding personal touches, anyone can create a home that feels both elegant and inviting. In the spirit of Martha Stewart, it’s about making everyday living an art.

A MODERN GUIDE TO ETIQUETTE

NAVIGATING SOCIAL INTERACTIONS WITH GRACE AND EMPATHY

In a world where social norms and conventions are constantly evolving, understanding and navigating modern etiquette can be likened to mastering a complex dance—a delicate balance of tradition and contemporary sensibilities. From formal dinners to digital communications, the rules of engagement may seem elusive, but beneath the surface lies a fundamental principle: empathy.

Imagine finding yourself in the hallowed halls of Windsor Castle, preparing to meet King Charles. As you step into the grandeur of the royal court, uncertainty looms—should you curtsy? And if so, when and how? While such encounters are reserved for the privileged few, the underlying anxiety reflects a universal truth: the fear of unwittingly violating social norms.

Contrary to popular belief, modern etiquette is not merely a relic of the past or a set of arbitrary rules to follow. Instead, it serves as a guide for navigating the complexities of human interaction with grace and consideration for others’ feelings. It’s about more than just knowing which fork to use or when to send a thank-you note— it’s about cultivating empathy and understanding in diverse social contexts.

At its core, etiquette is a reflection of our values and beliefs, shaping how we engage with the world around us. Whether we’re communicating digitally or dining in formal settings, the principles of etiquette remain constant: respect, kindness, and consideration for others.

In today’s fast-paced, interconnected world, the role of etiquette has never been more crucial. As technology blurs the lines between personal and professional realms, mastering the art of

digital communication is essential. From email etiquette to navigating social media interactions, understanding the nuances of online communication can help avoid misunderstandings and foster meaningful connections.

But etiquette extends beyond the digital realm—it permeates every aspect of our lives, from family gatherings to corporate boardrooms. In formal settings, such as business meetings or dinner parties, knowing the appropriate codes of conduct can make all the difference. By adhering to established social norms and customs, we demonstrate respect for tradition while adapting to contemporary contexts.

Yet, modern etiquette is not synonymous with rigidity or conformity. Instead, it embraces flexibility and inclusivity, recognizing that diversity is the cornerstone of our society. By acknowledging and respecting differences in culture, background, and beliefs, we create a more inclusive and harmonious community.

In essence, etiquette is more than just a set of rules—it’s a philosophy, a way of life that emphasizes empathy, respect, and understanding. It’s about recognizing the humanity in each individual and treating others with the kindness and consideration they deserve.

So, the next time you find yourself faced with a social dilemma or uncertain of the appropriate course of action, remember the timeless principles of etiquette: empathy, respect, and kindness. By embodying these values in our interactions, we can navigate the complexities of modern life with grace and poise, fostering deeper connections and building a more compassionate world for all.

THE MAKING OF MARTHA

Born in New Jersey to a couple of avid do-it-yourself-ers, Martha is of Polish heritage and one of six children. Martha’s mother was a schoolteacher, her father a pharmaceutical salesman.

“We had a very positive attitude towards learning, and learning everything,” says Martha. Her mother, affectionally known as ‘Big Martha’, was her biggest mentor, with Martha learning to cook, sew, and repair just about anything in her Nutley, New Jersey, childhood home. She also learned the processes of canning and preserving when she visited her grandparents’ New York home, while her devoted dad passed on his passion for gardening to his daughter.

“My father, Edward Kostyra, was a passionate organic gardener,” she explains. “When I was a child, he instilled in me the importance of growing one’s own vegetables.”

A MODEL MARTHA

The well-read and domestic arts-adoring child grew up to be an ambitious teen, who began her modeling career during high school at sweet 15 to earn extra money to help fund her college tuition.

Appearing in fashion shows for the likes of Chanel, and in editorials and TV ads for popular brands such as Breck, Clairol and Lifebuoy Soap, Martha attended Barnard College of Columbia University in New York and married Andrew Stewart, with whom she has a daughter, Alexis, who in turn, has given Martha her much-adored grandson, Truman, and equally adored granddaughter, Jude.

“They’ve added so much joy to our lives and have greatly enriched our every day,” says Martha on her website.

FROM STOCKBROKER TO CATERER

After graduating, the astute model worked as a stockbroker on Wall Street, “Which taught me so much about what it takes to build a real business, a real company - a meaningful and useful enterprise,” she reveals on her blog.

Martha moved to Westport, Connecticut, in 1971, when the married couple purchased and restored an 1805 farmhouse. Turkey Hill, in Connecticut, was where she embarked on the ultimate DIY project and the epitome of her story of style; Martha’s first, and probably most-famous, residence, which she turned into an ‘honest-to-goodness’ farmstead filled with antiques and distinctive characteristics over 30 years.

Fixing up the historic farmhouse and creating an unforgettable landscape, she started with two acres, gradually expanding to six as adjacent properties came up for sale. During the project, multifaceted Martha’s panache for restoring and decorating became apparent, and she started a successful catering company out of her iconic Turkey Hill home.

“It was a dream place for my family, and for many years,” she has reminisced.

GARDEN GOALS

Those years spent planting and tending perennial borders, herbs and orchards, plus a potager giving her what she calls a “college education” in gardening, made Martha fall more in love with growing and cultivating.

“It taught us, nurtured us, fed us, and occupied us in so many wonderful and instructive ways,” divulges the green-fingered DIY doyenne. “I would not be who I am today without the vast knowledge I gained there, on that small bit of paradise,” she wrote on sorrowfully selling the property in 2007.

A HANDMADE CAREER

In the early 1970s, Martha turned her knowledge of the home and the things she loved to do most - cooking, crafting, decorating and gardening - into a new career. First as a caterer, then as an author, magazine creator, TV host and merchandising whiz, with each new endeavor delivering successes and challenges, encouraging her to build her burgeoning brand.

Despite her start in finance, the world-famous entrepreneur’s successful catering business also led to the book that launched her career, which really began with her very first title, entitled

‘Entertaining by Martha Stewart’. Her standout talent as a chef and hostess saw her go on to create that first eponymous cookbook, launched in the early 80s, featuring recipes and photos from the parties she hosted.

KICKING OFF WITH ENTERTAINING

The one-and-only Martha Stewart has been a household name for over four decades, ever since her very first ‘Entertaining’ book release. “That book changed my life,” she explains. “I found my voice, and I found my career.”

She’s since released bountiful bestselling books, authored abundant newspaper columns and other pieces on homemaking aplenty, and has been the publisher of her eponymous ‘Martha Stewart Living’ magazine. The latter title is no longer in print, although Martha now produces special interest print publications, such as her hot-off-thepress ‘Gardening’ stand-alone special interest publication, flourishing with the very best of Martha’s gardening advice over the years.

Taking readers through all four seasons - spring, summer, autumn, and winter - including insights into what Martha is planting, tending to, and harvesting each month, this special collector’s edition serves as the perfect year-round gardening companion.

“Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve loved gardening,” she divulges. “From tilling the soil the old-fashioned way - by hand, or with a rototiller - to designing exactly how the garden will look, to planting and harvesting it, I immensely enjoy the produce nature provides… It

enlivens and beautifies each and every day!”

BROADCASTING BUSINESS VENTURES

Focusing on home and hospitality, she gained success through a variety of business ventures, encompassing not only publishing, but also broadcasting, merchandising and e-commerce.

The American retail businesswoman, writer, and TV personality has hosted television programs ‘Martha Stewart Living’ and ‘The Martha Stewart Show’, which ran from 2005 to 2012, and made numerous TV appearances on programs such as ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ and ‘Larry King Live’.

She also worked with Donald Trump when she hosted her spin-off version of ‘The Apprentice’.

MARTHA STEWART LIVING

She built her company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, focusing on home and hospitality, from the ground up in the ‘90s, seeing her name emblazoned across many a magazine and products a-plenty.

Launched in 1991 – a year on from her divorce - with a very small team of like-minded people, Martha started teaching thousands of readers how to master all of life’s ‘good things’, from baking and cooking, to hosting and

home keeping, through her most lucrative business – her super-popular publication ‘Martha Stewart Living’.

Over the five decades since, she’s shaped the way we think about our food, homes, and ourselves through her exciting ventures. An expert on the home, entertaining and more, the lifestyle magnate positively overflows with ideas to spark your creativity, along with giving you the tools to guide you every step of the way.

In fact, many say to media mogul Martha, “You’ve literally inspired me my entire life!”

“My work is based on need and want,” she says.

“It’s extremely powerful to take an idea and turn it into a billion-dollar business. Hard work is ESSENTIAL for making an idea come to life, and I love hard workers”

she continues. If you can find somebody who’s going to be as good as, or better, than you, embrace them. Bring them in!”

MARTHA’S LIVING MAGAZINE

With Martha’s mission to teach and inspire, she named her title ‘Living’ to express that living is limitless - an ever-expanding subject with the home, and the art of home making.

Focusing on the key content areas of cooking, entertaining, housekeeping, crafting, gardening, decorating, celebrating holidays, and collecting, she and her talented team of fellow creatives concentrated as much on the visuals - producing arresting images - as they did on the words on each page.

And within a few short years, Martha’s magazine reach broadened into book publishing, TV shows and digital storytelling, rapidly expanding coverage to include family, healthy living, and weddings, with the latter resulting in an additional magazine, ‘Martha Stewart Weddings’, which launched in 1995 and became a success in its own right.

“I will be forever proud of the abundance of ideas in our pages, of the many thousands of recipes and projects our readers have used and enjoyed,” she said on the 30 th anniversary of her ‘Living’ title. “We created this magazine for everyone, because good living can be learned, honed, and enjoyed by all.”

SMALL SCREEN SUCCESS

She’s also seen stacks of stardom on the small screen, having turned ‘Living’s’ success into her first TV show - the ‘Martha Stewart Living’ program - which launched in 1993.

Martha’s multiple TV ventures also include her hosting ‘The Martha Stewart Show’, an Emmy-winning daily syndicated television program featuring celebrity guests plus segments shining a light on her expertise in cooking, gardening, artisan crafts, and design, and featuring everyone from Whoopi Goldberg, Larry King and Jay Leno, to Tom Ford, Bette Midler and Tom Selleck.

A TOUCH OF MARTHA MULTI-MILLIONAIRE MAGIC

Her successful merchandising business with items for the home soon started selling products at multiple retail and online outlets, too. By the Millennium, Martha had become a billionaire with celebrity appeal. Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia went public on the New York Stock Exchange, making Martha a billionaire on paper and the first female self-made billionaire in the United States.

MARTHA GETS DOWN AND DIRTY!

Alongside her own TV program based on her magazine, Martha has contributed to CBS’s ‘The Early Show’, starred in several primetime holiday specials on the CBS network, and remains a frequent contributor to NBC’s ‘Today Show’ today.

Having made its mark in the late 90s, Martha Stewart Living Omnime -

dia came complete with a website overflowing with a wealth of ideas and info plus a Martha by Mail catalogue business.

Sold in 2015, more recently there’s also been a gardening show from the green-fingered guru – ‘Martha Knows Best’ - with a few of Martha’s celebrity friends, followed by another horticultural TV program – ‘Martha Gets Down and Dirty’.

The founder of the first multi-channel lifestyle company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia – now owned by Marquee Brands – is all about living and celebrating your best life both inside and out.

LIVING IS LIMITLESS - LIVE THE LIFE YOU LOVE

Martha’s media empire is testament to living the life you love, which many believe leads to longevity.

The success of that first ‘Entertaining’ book ultimately led to the creation of ‘Martha Stewart Living’ in 1990. “My original idea was that living is limitless,” she said in the February 1998 issue of ‘Living’. “It could be expanded and expounded upon, enlarged and extolled.”

“Thirty years later, our mission still holds true,” Martha explains. “Making your life better every day is our goal.”

TV-wise, most recently, CNN’s original series - ‘The Many Lives of Martha Stewart’ - made its mark, featuring never-before-seen images and archive footage revealing the woman behind the legendary lifestyle icon.

MARTHA COOKS FOR TV & BOOKS

Showcasing easy-to-make collections of one-pot recipes and even an entire book dedicated to cupcakes, Martha has been sharing her favorite food formulas with readers since 1982. In addition to cookbooks, her many other volumes include tips for all things lifestyle, including flower arranging how-tos and DIY decorating guides.

THE MARTHA MANUAL

Released several years ago, ‘The Martha Manual: How to Do (Almost) Everything’ saw the highly respected teacher of (almost) everything bring her time-tested methods and advice to another top title. “This book is for people of all ages and at different stages in their lives”, Martha told me at the time of its release.

“Young people on their way to college or moving into their first home can read this book and have a good basis in home organisation. And, for the more experienced person, it helps with cutting back, cutting down on chores, and actually accomplishing tasks that you may never have thought you’d be accomplishing!”

Brimming with Martha-approved strategies for frequent challenges and basic how-to knowledge that everyone should have at the ready, the book also includes solutions for the not-so-common conundrums, such as how to transport a decorated cake, fold an American flag and even bathe a cat.

A SUSTAINABLE GROWER

As she started to conclude works on her latest book a few months ago, Martha was also in the process of launching the next season of ‘Martha Cooks’, her cooking show on Roku, demonstrating her healthy approach to farm-fresh eating and showing us how she collects eggs from her chickens, forages berries from her garden to make jam, and so much more. “We have so many wonderful shows on Roku now,” she reveals. “They have my whole library!”

A huge fan of organic, she eats what she sows. Martha champions sustainability and has always endeavoured to eat healthily, growing practically EVERYTHING she eats.

“One of the very first things I did when we moved to our first home, Turkey Hill, was to build a chicken coop and populate it with a delightful assortment of laying hens,” she reveals. “I called this effort ‘backyard animal husbandry,’ and it helped start a nationwide trend for homegrown poultry and eggs.”

“As soon as I had my own home, I tilled a great big patch of ground and started planting everything my family and I loved to eat; string beans, tomatoes, cabbages, salad greens, potatoes, carrots... The tradition continues today - indoors as well as outdoors.”

#CHANGETHEDAY

Caring deeply about the planet and world we live in, Martha’s ‘Change the Day’ program motivated millions to live cleaner, greener, healthier, and happier lives.

Launched by Martha’s Living magazine in 2012, the cross-platform campaign demonstrated how just small steps and new habits can significantly impact your wellbeing, home and the planet, making positive changes in our daily lives. The campaign covered various initiatives, including clean water, energy efficiency and wellness, with each designed to teach and inspire people to do simple and attainable things which have a major impact, such as curbing waste.

HOMES SWEET HOMES

Over the years, Martha has owned many different properties, every home unique in its own right, but all distinctly ‘Martha’. Each home has displayed different ways of living, from sophisticated city life to laid-back rural country or remote seaside relaxation. Whether it’s the rustic feel of her sprawling country estate, Turkey Hill, with it farm full of animals and antique style in Bedford, Connecticut, the fresh clean lines of Martha’s contemporary condominiums in Manhattan and Perry St. NYC apartment for glamorous urban living, or the magical colour palette of white, teal, pink, creams and yellows of her coastal home in The Hamptons, inspired by the surrounding flowers and oceanic breeziness, she has gone to town with her diversely creative imagination for each and every one, ensuring all are enviable one-offs.

HAMPTONS’ LILY POND LANE

A mere ten-minute stroll to the beach, Martha’s historic East Hamptons home, Lily Pond Lane on Long Island, boasted world-renowned neighbors, including Steven Spielberg and Calvin Klein.

Sold just a few years ago, in typical Martha fashion, she’d fixed it up, updated its look, added a pool, and decked it out with gorgeous antique homewares, turning Lily Pond Lane into a pre-eminent, yet cozy, shingle-style beach retreat, offering a cool, breezy, coastal aesthetic and feel.

Parties are the lifeblood of the summer season at The Hamptons and the lifestyle magnate attended many a celebrity charity event alongside Hollywood heavyweights while residing here.

MARTHA’S MAINE ESTATE

Skylands, meanwhile, marks Martha’s woodland retreat on Mount Desert Island, referred to as her most architecturally important home, offering large-scale patterns like silk damasks plus a confident use of color.

With its rugged coastline setting, Martha bought her historic Seal Harbor estate as her Maine summer residence. Testament to tradition and the natural beauty of its surrounding forests, the 1920’s masterpiece was designed by architect Duncan Candler and Danish-born landscape designer Jens Jensen for visionary automotive executive - and the car’s namesake - Edsel Ford and his wife, Eleanor.

Nestled deep in the forests of the farthest reaches of America’s Northeast, just outside Acadia National Park, Martha’s stately summer residence situated on a remote island commands an impressive panorama, set high on a hill overlooking sensational Seal Harbor.

This creative houseowner likes to keep things traditional and authentic here, proudly telling Architectural Digest,

“I look at myself as the caretaker of an American treasure.”

In fact, Martha refers to her magnificent getaway Maine property as “my favorite place”, and Skylands serves as a considerable source of inspiration to this multi-skilled crowd-pulling magnet.

A MEMORABLE MILLENNIUM IN MAINE

For the turn of the millennium, Martha embarked on a special New Year’s trek from her Maine home. “I invited a group of friends to my house on Mount Desert Island to celebrate the fin de siècle,” she sentimentally recalls. “Some believe that the sun first touches the United States at the easternmost point of the island, so we hiked there before dawn on January 1, 2000, to catch the earliest rays of the morning and welcome the new century. What fun we had! I’ll never forget it…”

MARTHA HOME PRODUCTS

The crafty creator has devoted her life to celebrating the traditional domestic arts and helping to keep dying-out age-old crafting skills alive’n’kicking. Offering inspo in spades for the inventive creator, her impressive second home acts as a catalyst for her super-creative imagination, and an idea sparker for Martha’s extensive design empire. Putting a personal spin on the myriad products the home-styling specialist produces year-by-year.

in 2019 relentless Martha unveiled new décor lines based on her four different lifestyles at her four current abodes. Each lifestyle reflects the way Martha lives – entertaining, decorating, gardening, fashion and more – making it easy to make your home magical like Martha’s.

“My mission has always been to teach people of all ages to make their homes and lives more beautiful and functional for everyday living”

The lifestyle mogul explained on launching her lines. “The inspiration for the products we’ve designed has always come from the way I live. We have a very large audience - they trust our taste, and love our products and colors, and that’s what we’re trying to continue to appeal to. High-quality products at an affordable price point, made available to all consumers; That’s what’s core to our brand DNA,” she told Architectural Digest at the time.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS – MARTHA FIRSTS PLUS HOT HOTPANTS!

The epitome of genius, the rockstar that is Martha Stewart has materialised a myriad of firsts, becoming the first self-made female billionaire in the United States in 2000, launching an eponym ous lifestyle magazine, popularizing department-store lifestyle collaborations, filming a cooking show with Snoop Dogg, and making homemaking, cooking, and crafting accessible for all.

What’s more, she’s the first woman to ever wear velvet hot pants on the New York Stock Exchange trading floor!

She reveals she owned two pairs - one brown, one peachy pink - when she was a stockbroker in the ‹70s. “I wore them with an alligator belt, a bodysuit, and a pair of boots or high heels,” she reveals.

SUCCESS SECRETS

By growing her business in the lifestyle, cooking and publishing markets, Martha’s become a “one-woman, multi-million-dollar industry.”

“People always say, ‘Oh, you reinvent yourself’;

“I don’t call it
‘reinvention’. I really like to evolve,”

explains multi-Emmy award-winning Martha in her MasterClass. “And not be an old-fashioned, you know, old lady. I don’t want to be that.”

She says the single ingredient for her success is “passion”, with Martha and her inner circle continuing to enjoy sharing the stories behind her most memorable milestones. And the most important thing in business, she adds, is “diversification”.

“Be fearless, change is good,” she says. “I like to look forward.” That mentality has allowed Martha to accomplish all she has. “I want to know what my limits are, but I also want to extend those limits in every way possible.”

Ever the innovator, tireless Martha changed tactics and launched an ambitious endeavor, ‘Martha Stewart Living’, during a downturn year in publishing, starting a lifestyle magazine that stood out from the rest, with gorgeous photography, inspiring ideas, and Martha’s name on the cover. A master of wearing multiple hats, Martha has evolved exponentially with the times, as has her worldwide influence. Martha’s reach remains limitless.

Her creative excellence and acute awareness of emerging social trends have helped keep maven Martha fresh and relevant for more than a quarter century, ensuring she remains a beloved, respected, and relevant personality today.

MARTHA THE INFLUENCER

The original influencer before it was even a word, multi-tasking Martha was the living embodiment of someone who could take their skills and transform them into a brand. She was everywhere…

Gracing the cover of the first issue of ‘Living’ in 1990, she wore a plaid Ralph Lauren jacket that she still has in her closet. “That cover spoke to every woman in America,” she says. “I was the girl next door, the woman down the street, a teacher. I was somebody who was inspired and inspiring.”

This creative leader tries her hand at everything, and is not afraid to get her hands dirty to make things happen, saying, “There’s no too big or too small” for her ever since she started Martha Stewart Living. She’s applied the creativity used in making any project for the home and garden to business.

Above all, Martha has always done it her own way and has never been anything more than just herself.

And it’s this goddess of all things domestic’s genuine spirit, coupled with her wry sense of humor, that make her more recent endeavors, such as the Emmy-nominated ‘Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party’, her podcasts in partnership with iHeart Radio (she also produces Martha Stewart Living Radio), and recently launched line of CBD gummy supplements (in partnership with Canopy Growth) completely on-brand.

COVER GIRL – BREAKING THE INTERNET… IN HER 80S!

Martha’s legendary career has landed her on many a magazine cover, although gracing this particular title marked a major first for the multi-hyphenate.

Making a splash in swimwear on the cover of ‘Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’ last spring, Martha’s astounding magazine accomplishment was nothing less than admirable. Posing for the shoot in her swimsuit at 81 saw her stunning images break the Internet!

“I don’t think about age,” she recently told Page Six. “I think people are more and more and more [fabulous] than they’ve ever been in their senior years, and I applaud every one of them.”

STATELY MAGAZINE 45

MAGNIFICENT MARTHA – TWO-TIME SPORTS ILLUSTRATED SWIMSUIT COVER MODEL!

Martha made history when she modelled on that cover and has since solidified herself as one of the title’s legends, seeing her appear again in the ‘legends photoshoot’ featuring in the May 2024 issue of the magazine, alongside other past cover models, including Christine Brinkley, Paulina Porizkova, Kate Upton and Tyra Banks, to mark the magazine’s 60th anniversary.

The ‘Sports illustrated’ photoshoot was an experience she walked into with confidence. Calling on her previous modeling experiences, eating well and doing lots of Pilates, she already had the toolbox for the task.

“Age is not the determining factor in terms of friendship or in terms of success,” she told the title at the time. “But what people do, how people think, how people act… That’s what’s important, and not your age.”

She says the resulting phenomenal photos were a testament to “good living”.

“I think all of us should think about good living and not about aging. The whole aging thing is so boring.”

The oldest model ever to be featured on a ‘Sports Illustrated’ cover, Martha shared how she prepared for this historic moment, explaining that confidence is learned and, pointing to the countless life lessons gleaned from her parents, advising that we all instil them in our children early on.

Ultimately, she hopes the cover has inspired other women, and gives them an opportunity to “revisit their lives, try new things and be unafraid of anything.”

INTRODUCING CASA MONICA HOTEL ST AUGUSTINE

Thanksgiving weekend is a perfect time to visit one of America’s favorite cities, as the weather cools down and the town fills up with holiday spirit. The best thing about visiting Charleston is that you don’t have to arrive with a detailed plan to enjoy the city. Simply biking down the historic streets full of colorful homes, strolling along the beautiful beaches, and popping into buzzing restaurants and live music joints will reward you with a memorable getaway.

Zero George is an excellent home base for a holiday weekend in Charleston. The artfully restored circa-1804 buildings and courtyard allow guests to feel a part of the city’s vibrant history while enjoying a host of modern amenities. Plus, breakfast is delivered to your door each morning, making for the perfect start to your Thanksgiving celebration.

INTRODUCING BROWN’S HOTEL - ENGLAND

Centrally located in London’s Mayfair neighborhood, Brown’s Hotel opened in 1874 and is the epitome of the Victorian sophistication one would expect of a historic property in the city.

You’ll find traditional high tea served every afternoon in the hotel’s tea room, which has welcomed writers from across the generations, including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, J.M. Barrie, Robert Louis Stevenson, Agatha Christie and modern-day authors like Stephen King.

Rudyard Kipling wrote “The Jungle Book” while staying in one of the hotel’s posh rooms, today rebranded as the Kipling Suite.

Alexander Graham Bell also made the first-ever phone call from this five-star hotel, which continues to pamper its guests as it did more than 100 years ago.

INTRODUCING HOTEL GRANDE BRETAGNE

Originally built in 1842 as a private residence, Hotel Grande Bretagne came to life in 1874. Its mission: make accommodations so high end, kings would want to lay their heads on the pillows, even though Athens was not a modern city at the time.

Sure enough, the property, which first received electricity in 1888, did receive foreigners from other countries, becoming the place

to stay until the city fell to the Germans in 1941. Nazis turned the hotel into their headquarters for three years before it became a home to refugees following the war.

In 2003, the five-star, 320-room hotel, now operated by Marriott, went through a massive renovation, regaining its place as the best and most elegant hotel in Athens.

INTRODUCING

AMY NICOLE COHEN

CHOOSING TO ELEVATE YOUR LIFE: THROUGH WELLNESS AND SELF-CARE PRACTICES !

WRITTEN BY AMY NICOLE COHEN, FOUNDER; CHIC STUDIOS AND CEO; THE CHIC EXPERIENCE @AMYNICOLECOHEN

ICAN’T HELP BUT REMINISCE ABOUT A TRIP I TOOK TO THE SOUTH OF FRANCE IN THE SUMMERTIME, WITH THE WIND BLOWING THROUGH MY SUNKISSED-BLONDE, SALTY HAIR, AS I STEPPED FOOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE THAT WHISKED ME AWAY TO PROVENCE, FROM MY ARRIVAL TO NICE AIRPORT, STRAIGHT INTO THE UBER AND ON-SITE TO THE CHÂTEAU. WHAT WAS MEMORABLE WAS HOW I FELT, HOW CALM AND RELAXED MY BODY AND NERVES WERE (AFTER A RUSHED EARLY MORNING AIRPORT TREK, FLIGHT FROM PARIS, AFTER A NIGHT ON THE TOWN) I FELT LIKE MY BODY WAS MELTING INTO THE SAND, THE MOMENT I ARRIVED!

In a world filled with hustle and bustle, and everyday worries or life stresses, I prioritized myself, the essential summit of wellness and self-care, and this trip to the South of France taught me, in a few short days, how to truly live my best life.

Now, let me say, you do not need to take a flight or leave your home, the fundamental aspect is that you take time. Time for you. Time to soak up that sand. Time to enjoy life’s blessings.

There have been many days that I have chosen to take the time I need for self-discovery and rejuvenation, and here are four (4) powerful wellness practices I have found the most transformative.

1. MINDFUL MOVEMENT: Incorporate daily exercise, whether it’s a yoga session, a brisk walk in nature, or a dance workout. Movement not only boosts physical health but also enhances mood and mental clarity.

2. NOURISHING NUTRITION AND BODY: Fuel your body with nutrient-rich foods that support overall well-being. Focus on a balanced diet with plenty of hydration (I like lemon water) and an amazing facial to rid the skin (our largest organ on the body that absorbs more than we realize and taking optimal care of it, is essential. I enjoy hydra-facials at Kelowna Medical Esthetics or a Micro-Needeling to boost collagen, at Onyx Beauty lab.

3. RESTORATIVE SLEEP: Prioritize quality sleep by establishing a relaxing bedtime routine, creating a comfortable sleep environment (this one has been a game-changer for me, essential oils, ginger/lemon tea, and a silk eye mask) and practicing relaxation techniques like meditation or deep breathing (I often do this with my kids before they go to bed too).

4. CONNECTION AND COMMUNITY: Foster meaningful connections with like-minded people and engage in community activities that bring joy and fulfillment. Human connection is vital for emotional well-being and a sense of belonging.

Now, another life-changing memory I have is a career choice I made, which was to venture into beauty and skincare training, after being a makeup artist for years

I evolved and created makeup academies for aspiring artists, and this taught me so much about myself and my self-care routine. I could list a hundred more, but here are my Five (5) game-changing self-care tips for a healthy, vibrant life.

1. SET BOUNDARIES: Learn to say no. To relationships that don’t serve you, to activities or commitments that drain your energy, and to prioritize activities that nourish your soul.

2. PRACTICE GRATITUDE: Cultivate a gratitude practice by reflecting on the things you’re thankful for each day. (We did this at Chic Studios, every week in class, out loud with our students, it was moving to say the least)

“Gratitude fosters a positive mindset and enhances overall well-being.”

3. UNPLUG AND RECHARGE: Take regular breaks from screens and technology to reconnect with yourself and recharge your energy. (I do this often as my world truly revolves around an iPhone, iPad, or laptop) <sighs>

4. PAMPER YOURSELF: Treat yourself to regular self-care rituals, such as a massage, or a trip to the South of France for a girls’ getaway, a Chic retreat, or a solo-soul searching trip.

5. SEEK SUPPORT: Don’t hesitate to seek professional support or guidance when needed. Therapy, coaching, or counseling can be valuable resources for personal growth and healing (this was a pivotal point in my adult life when I hired a therapist!)

By embracing these wellness practices and self-care tips, you can create a life filled with vitality, balance, and joy. Start your journey to living your best life today, one moment, one experience, and one memory at a time, and Stay Chic.
