Ontario government helps music industry create jobs The new Ontario government plans to create an Ontario Music Fund that would help support and create jobs and position the province as a leading place to record and perform music.

“Music is an integral part of Ontario’s cultural landscape and an innovative economic driver, creating jobs and stimulating growth,” said Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Michael Chan. “Home to a diverse industry that includes the Major Labels and our innovative Independents, the new Ontario government’s Ontario Music Fund in concert with our Live Music Strategy represent a significant commitment by Ontario to strengthen our music industry, promote tourism and enhance our province’s profile as a global music leader and premier music destination.”

The provincewide grant program would support new digital and record production and distribution of Canadian music, increase partnership opportunities, and promote Ontario’s music industry in Canada and around the globe.

“Our proposed provincewide fund would support new digital and record production,” said Minister of Finance Charles Sousa. “It would encourage distribution of Canadian music and help establish Ontario’s production studios as global leaders in the business

formation of Ontario into one of the recording capitals of the world. As we in the music community like to say, music can help.”

Providing the music industry with necessary support is part of the government’s plan to help Ontario’s music artists and industry innovators succeed for a more prosperous and fair Ontario.

Full-time jobs gained April’s job gains show strong economic recovery Ontario’s economy continues to grow stronger, gaining 3,800 net new jobs in April.

Full-time employment was the largest contributor to the April job gain, increasing by 17,600 jobs.

“April’s job gains demonstrate Ontario’s strong economic recovery,” said Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Employment Dr. Eric Hoskins. “Our government is committed to creating more employment opportunities for the people of this province so that everyone can enjoy a more prosperous and fair Ontario.”

Since June 2009, Ontario has created 401,900 jobs, exceeding the number of jobs lost in the recession by 136,100. And the province continues to outpace the United States and all the Great Lakes states in job creation.

To seize new economic opportunities, the government laid out a comprehensive plan for jobs and growth in the 2013 Ontario Budget. If passed, investments planned over the

next three years for public transit, roads, bridges, schools, hospitals and other projects would support more than 100,000 jobs on average each year.

Providing the right climate to attract investment, create jobs and grow the economy is part of the new Ontario government’s plan to build a prosperous and fair province for all Ontarians.

More support for new nurses Ontario is ensuring that the people of this province have greater access to quality frontline health care by helping more nurses to enter the workforce.

The province is expanding the Nursing Graduate Guarantee so that new nursing graduates from other provinces and territories have the opportunity to work in Ontario.
