Letter from CEO/Publisher Tess Rutherford

I’ve made my fair share of mistakes growing up. I thought my punishment for my wrongs equated to no future. How could I expect such a bright future when the road I had traveled was all too dark? Most of us are wise enough to know that this is faulty thinking. Our relationship with God is not hinged on performance; instead it rests on faith. Before I understood that God had a plan for me, I had no thirst or hunger for anything. I was not aiming for a targeted goal. I simply lived not knowing that I could do something that affirms my very existence. With the help of encouraging people around me, I began to buy into the notion that God, indeed, had a plan just for me! I have to tell you this was the greatest news that I had re-

9

ceived after getting saved. So I went on a quest to search high and wide for the details of this magnanimous plan. I read a number of books on the shelves dealing with finding purpose or fulfilling the will of God. However, I was still left in the dark about where I fit in the world. So I asked God over and over, “What is this plan?” It’s interesting that he did not tell me right away. In retrospect, it was a great idea. If God had of told me, I would have done everything in my power to make this plan happen right away. Soon enough, I believe that I received feedback from God on what this plan entailed. Oddly enough, it left me wanting to know more. For one, he did not tell me everything I wanted to know. Secondly, the content of his message was not crystal clear; it was borderline encrypted. Even to this day, I cannot pinpoint exactly where I’m going, but I know that I am going somewhere. I believe this was God’s unique way of motivating me to carry out his plan.

print in front of us enables us to walk by faith and not by sight. And the curiosity of not knowing it all, should give us the motivation to “just do”. The point I wish to make here is that God may not reveal the full plan to you. He will give you a little bit here and a little bit there. He gives you enough to keep you excited about carrying out this mysterious plan. My encouragement to you is not to get frustrated by the unknown. Live in the moment of the spirit of God and he will lead you to that victorious place. You are going to thoroughly enjoy this issue of Empowered. It’s all about Purpose!

A businessman was in a great deal of trouble. His business was failing, he had put everything he had into the business, he owed everybody it was so bad he was even contemplating suicide. As a last resort he went to a pastor and poured out his story of tears and woe. When he had finished, the pastor said, “Here’s what I want you to do, put a beach chair and your Bible in your car and drive down to the beach. Take the beach chair and the Bible to the water’s edge, sit down in the beach chair, and put the Bible in your lap. Open the Bible; the wind will rifle the pages, but finally the open Bible will come to rest on a page. Look down at the page and read the first thing you see. That will be your answer, that will tell you what to do.” A year later the businessman went back to the pastor and brought his wife and children with him. The man was in a new custom- tailored suit, his wife in a mink coat, the children shining. The businessman pulled an envelope stuffed with money out of his pocket and gave it to the pastor as a donation in thanks for his advice. The pastor recognized the benefactor, and was

curious. “You did as I suggested?” he asked. “Absolutely,” replied the businessman. “You went to the beach?” “Absolutely.” “You sat in a beach chair with the Bible in your lap?” “Absolutely.” “You let the pages riffle until they stopped?” “Absolutely.” “And what were the first words you saw?” “Chapter 11.”

How many times in your life have you had to wait? Maybe it was when you waited in a long line at the store for a pack of gum. Maybe you had to wait to see if the company you applied for will offer you a job after an interview. Or maybe you are waiting for your best friend to decide what to wear just to go out for coffee. We ALL have had to wait at one time or another. Like it or not we don’t live in a “fast food” world. Oh yes, we do have faster cell phones, lightning speed computers, and “blink of an eye” networks, but is faster better? Have we all lost the art of WAITING? Many wonderful things happen to those who wait. *An expectant mother waiting for her child to be born - 9 months *A kindergarten student waiting to graduate from High School 13 years *A family paying off a house -

16

approximately 30 years *God waiting for a lost sinner to repent - sometimes a lifetime Now ask yourself these questions… Do you get frustrated when events in your life take a long time? Is patience one of your virtues? Our world is going through a time of transition and we all have a dilemma. We all have to wait on the Lord. Life is all about changing, and in that change we need to learn patience. Let me challenge you in something. Take a 30 day challenge with me. Why don’t we unite in prayer? You might say, “Well, I don’t pray.” That is why this is a challenge. I dare you to take time to say a quick prayer every day for 30 days. It doesn’t have to be fancy. It is as easy as talking to a friend. In your prayers let God know three things. First,

let God know what you are worried about. Second, let God know what you are grateful for. Third, let God know that you need help in trusting Him. All God wants from you is to spend time with you. You don’t have to be perfect or even saved to talk to God. All God wants is your time. If you take this challenge, I would love to hear what God reveals to you. I am willing to wait for you because God is so willing to wait for me! In this challenge I know that you will learn that when you connect with God, you tend to trust Him more, and in trusting God more you will learn to be more patient, and in patience, you will believe that God has your best interest at heart. I would love to hear from you. You can email me at lydia.laugh. live.love@hotmail.com. I look forward to reading your stories about waiting on God!

Take Initiative

Interview By: Tess Rutherford

17

Lane Ethridge is a contributing writer for the national best selling book, Initiative. He is a successful entrepreneur with a proven track record with the direct selling industry. He is also the founder of a non-profit foundation, Legacy Initiative, geared to help motivate and inspire people to become who they were created to be. Though he has accomplished some fantastic things in his lifetime, there is still yet more for him to achieve. Continue reading to learn more of his story. Jul/Aug 2013 | http://empoweredmagonline.com

Lane Ethridge’s background is in education. He taught in Maryland for years, but after getting Robert Kyosaki’s book, Rich Dad Poor Dad, his entire course of life changed. It became evident to Lane that in order for him to get to the place of his dreams, he would need to start doing things differently, and this entailed making a major career move. During Lane’s off months from teaching, he

invested a great deal of monies in getting trained on how to buy properties, how to flip properties, how to build a team, and how to negotiate a deal. After being equipped with knowledge and hands on training, Lane and his girlfriend relocated to San Diego, CA. Not long after transitioning, Lane noticed a shift that was taking place in his relationship with his significant

the best decision for the both of them. Once he arrived home, he felt very similar to the apartment’s condition – empty. But it was an eye opener for Lane in knowing that things will come and go, relationships will come and go, but at the end of the day we need to be happy and content with who we are and never give up on our goals and dreams. There was a bit of excitement for Lane in turning the page to this

to co-author a book with him along with other writers. Lane immediately said yes and that is how the book, Initiative came about. It’s a novel based journey about a young lady who is stuck in a place where she doesn’t want to be but need that initiative to go from point A to point B. Along the journey, the girl meets with real life people with real life experiences to guide her along the journey.

Lane says that he kept asking God questions. What do I need to do? Who do I need to become? Where am I going? Where am I right now? And he says not one of his questions went unanswered. Timing is everything. It takes some doors a little longer than normal to open but the idea is not to quit. Greg Reid has mentored Lane about remaining true to his core values. “There are too many people out there taking short cuts to make big bucks.” There was a time when Lane saw his role models as super heroes thinking that they cannot possibly have fears or any other insecurity that us common people have. But the truth is they have been through very similar situations as the common person. It takes a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to make it to a place of pinnacle success. His advice to those who are struggling to find their way in the world is to become better at being you rather than someone else. Find out where you need to spend the most time developing yourself. He recommends taking the StrengthFinders, Myers-Brigg, or DiSC for a personality assessment. And conduct a home based psychological assessment by asking close friends and family questions about yourself such as What am I good at? What frustrates you about me? Whatev-

Message from Ozara Odé: We’ve all been there. Arguing with our mate, trying to run it out, talk it out, and laugh it out, when what we really want to do is work it out. That’s every aspect of our lives- where we desire to live life abundantly, with peace of mind and love. The lyrics suggest we look at ourselves to make correct, or adjust any situation we are in. Self actualization and Self- determination. It’s Time to let go of pain, hurt, grudges, judgement, and embrace who we really are, and get what we really want and need. StrengthFinder 2.0 by Tom Rath

The long-running #1 Wall Street Journal bestseller. Listed as the top-selling business book worldwide by The Economist. Do you have the opportunity to do what you do best every day? Chances are, you don’t. All too often, our natural talents go untapped. From the cradle to the cubicle, we devote more time to fixing our shortcomings than to developing our strengths. To help people uncover their talents, Gallup introduced the first version of its online assessment, StrengthsFinder, in 2001 which ignited a global conversation and helped millions to discover their top five talents.

Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill Napoleon Hill accepted Andrew Carnegie’s offer on the spot, and thus was granted the rare opportunity to study firsthand the greatest business leaders in the world including Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, Alexander Graham Bell, John D. Rockefeller Jr., the Wright brothers, F. W. Woolworth, Luther Burbank, Marshall Field, and hundreds more. Andrew Carnegie also arranged for Hill to meet President Theodore Roosevelt and President William Howard Taft, and both President Woodrow Wilson and President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Hill to work for them when they served in the White House. Mahatma Gandhi sought him out, as did other world leaders and heads of state. For almost thirty years Napoleon Hill devoted himself to interviewing over five hundred of the most famous and successful leaders in every field, as well as thousands of other entrepreneurs, both successes and failures. The result of those years of exhaustive research made Hill one of the best-selling authors in history and one of the most influential voices in America. In 1962, Napoleon Hill and his wife, Annie Lou Hill, established The Napoleon Hill Foundation.
