The Facts About Friendships – John 15:13-15 “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Henry Nelson Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. It has been said that we all need friends, but few understand the basics about forming quality friendships. For me a true friend is someone whom I enjoy mutual affection, interests and respect for. The best friends are those who are helpers in times of trouble. Those who are our advocates when we find ourselves in need are the kind of friends that are worth their weight in gold. Solomon once wrote, "A brother is born for times of adver-

sity, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother - that is God our closest companion." By friendship I mean the greatest love, the greatest usefulness, the most open communication, the noblest sufferings, the severest truth, the heartiest counsel, and the greatest union of minds of which brave men and women are capable. Friendships are enhanced when we shared mutual goals, values and power. Jesus knew that the best kinds of friendships would come from an intimate relationship with Him. Nothing comes close to the satisfaction you get when we are in close communication with the Lord Jesus. One of my favorite hymns is "There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus. No not one. No not one. None else can heal all our souls’ diseases. No not one. No not one. Jesus knows all about our struggles. He will guide till the day is done. There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus. No not one. No not one." Let Jesus be your closest friend by spending the

He has held several senior commands in the United Stated Navy and also flew with the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, “Blue Angels. Admiral Walsh is a former resident of Dallas and graduated with honors from Jesuit College Preparatory in Dallas. The parade will feature military and veterans organizations, military units and ands, area high school bands, and JROTC units. Leading the parade will be four Grand Marshals, followed by the United States Navy band Mid-South. first part and the most valuable parts of your day with him in praise, communion and submission to His directives. Friendship is enhanced when we share mutual activities that contribute to the qualitative and quantitative expansion of the kingdom of God. This might be best illustrated by a triangle. When two people want to get closer to one another they must first draw closer to the Jesus at the apex of the triangle. As they draw closer to the Lord in obedience, love and trust, they will find themselves drawing closer to one another. Too many people falsely assume that they can form friendships without making Christ the center of all relationships. Without Jesus at the center of every friendship it will eventually fail or cause us to put people above our devotion to God. Amen! Friendship is a way that you can show our love for one another as we are commanded to do. True friendship evidences the qualities of patience, kindness, gentleness and faithfulness without seeking its own interests. Love makes friendships grow by adding enrichment to every relationship. Love is not anxious to impress nor does it cherish inflated ideas of its own importance. It knows no limit to endurance because it bears all things, believes the best in every

person, hopes for the best in every difficult situation and endures all kinds of disappointments. Without an agape love, friendships are mercurial, fleeting and fair weathered in nature. Friendship provides the relationships that bring about 90% of the people into the family of God. Consistently, statistics tell us that about 90% of the people who become Christians do so through a friend or a family member. Friendship evangelism provides a warm relationship where people are able to feel the affection of a loving Christian before they are presented with the hard truths of the gospel. Few people seem to be willing to extend friendships to people before they lay the truths of the gospel on the people around them. May the Lord help us to be kind to all, friendly, and willing to serve those around us by extending a helping hand. The Lord befriended many as a way of demonstrating the love that gives even when others misunderstand, ignore or criticize the giver. Friendships are so valuable because through them we receive encouragement, consolation of love, fellowship and affirmation. Consider the great contribution that the friendship of Jonathan and David provided

“The Overlooked Servants” Exodus 31:1-3 There are people in our society who are overlooked and have been overlooked for years. Their talents and gifts go unnoticed to others who can only see the favorite ones. The laid back servants, the Gene Turner quiet ones, and the Out of the Eyes of meek are usually overa Layman looked when it comes to choosing upsides. These people we will never see unless God pulls our coat. You see after a while we become an Elijah. Thinking there is none left except us, but God to Elijah no, no you are not the only one left, because I have 7000 more that you do not know about. You see, people that we have written off the list, God has a place for them. There are people right under our noses who have many gifts and talents, but because of their laid back attitude we do not ask then to do anything. We do not tap all of our resources in our churches. We pass by, and pass up people because we do not think they are in the mainstream of things, which goes on around us. Bezalel (Bez-a-lel) was a laid back person. Moses had forgotten about this man, God had to speak to Moses about Bezalel. “The Lord spoke to Moses saying, “see I have called by name Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship.” Exodus 31:1-3. Mind you that this is the first mention in the Bible of someone

being filled with the Spirit of God. It is significant that Bezalel was neither a preacher, prophet, nor teacher. He was a craftsman, called of God to oversee the construction of the tabernacle. God had a plan and He endued this layman with power to fulfill it. “The Spirit of God has many names, and the Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, the Spirit of Wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of Knowledge and the fear of the Lord” (Isiah 11:2) There are people in our local churches that are overlooked that have tremendous gifts, but are looked over because they are not so popular. We need to tap the resources in our churches, because we are surrounded with very talented and gifted Brothers and Sisters who can do a much better job than we could ever do. Now! On the other side of the coin we should discover our Spiritual

gifts and develop and use them in ministry. Bezalel is a model of a Spirit-filled man on the job. When we receive Jesus as Lord, His Spirit takes residence in us, when He comes in He gives of gifts for service. ”As each one received a special (spiritual) gift, employ it serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” (I Peter 4:10) When God gives us a gift, we should want to make that gift known that God might be glorified. When God gives us a gift we do not use it; we fail to show others what God has done for us, which smothers the glorification of the almighty God. If we really want to make God smile, just use the gifts that He gives, don’t wait until we are discovered. Let us nor forget to read our Bibles. May God bless you REAL GOOD, and may He ever keep you in His loving care.

Freedom in the Fire King Nebuchadnezzar had made a large statue of gold and commanded that everyone must worship the statue whenever they heard the royal music - they must worship the statue, or face terrible cons e q u e n c e s ! "Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace" (Daniel 3:6). Daniel's friends, Geraldine Shadrach, Meshach, Davidson-Hooker and Abednego, were determined to live with an uncompromising faith. They believed God's Word and obeyed His commands: "You shall have no other gods before Me...You shall not bow down to them or worship them" (Exodus 20:3, 5). These three young Jewish men took a stand and refused to worship the golden statue. Their devotion to God was greater than their fear of the fire. Nebuchadnezzar was furious and followed through on his threat: He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual and commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. But when Nebuchadnezzar looked inside the furnace, he was amazed by what he saw. "Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods." As they were facing the fire, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego saw no chance of escape, but they placed their complete trust in God - a trust which would not falter even if they were burned. But rather than being burned by the fire, these three men were freed from their binding ropes and walked with "a son of the gods." In their time of greatest need, God comforted these young men and set them free. The fires in our life WILL come. The heat will seem intense! But we must not fear, or abandon what we know to be true. Our faith is ALWAYS refined and made stronger by fire; "the testing of your faith develops perseverance" (James 1:3). Fire will always teach us to trust more deeply and worship more sincerely. When we really believe this truth, it will become possible to actually rejoice in the face of fire. We can rejoice because we KNOW He is in complete and absolute control of every area of our life this is true freedom! Let's walk with a bold faith, knowing our Father is there to comfort and protect us, knowing He will strengthen us and set us free in the fire.

So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. Hebrews 6:18 NLT

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples". This eager to learn the how of prayer is found in the 11th chapter of Luke. The Pastor best way to learn how Clarence to pray effectively is to Henderson study the guide book God has given us. One reason we become fruitless in our prayer life is that we fail to study what the Bible has to say about prayer. In the Bible we find the model prayer which is the greatest guide to effective prayer that God has given to man. The model prayer, better known as the "Lord's Prayer", is found in the 11th chapter of Luke and the 6th chapter of Matthew.

Our Sunday school lesson titled, "God's Presence Comforts and Assures" Psalms 63: 1-11, the lesson high points were, "The result of yearning for the presence of God, the comfort we have with the presence of God and His presence is what help us to rejoice." Missionary Johnetta Parrish spoke was our Rev. Johnny King morning speaker, her subject was, "The Enemy of Revival" II Chronicles 7: 11-14, her high points were, The enemy of pride, the enemy of a prayerless life and the enemy of priorty.

Unlike politicians, it is impossible for God to lie. Thankfully, there are no mid-term elections in heaven. Š 2010 William M. Campbell, Jr.

Texas Rangers’ Fall Short of First World Series Title By: Lola Searcy It was a 3 – run homer in the top of the seventh- inning by the San Francisco Giant Edgar Renteria that put an end to the Cinderella like season for the Texas Rangers. This was the year when all the “Eyes of Texas” were on Ron Washington’s and the Texas Rangers ball team, as they vied for their very first World Series Championship. Before a crowd of over 52,000 plus fans, the Texas Rangers ended an historic baseball season. The season began with the organization being In limbo, not knowing who would be the team’s new owners, to the acquisition of Pitcher Cliff Lee, to some of us (myself included), glued to our television sets, holding our collective breaths as the Rangers won game after game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and against the team who has won more postseason games and the most World Series titles in the history of baseball, the New York Yankees. After defeating the Yankees, I thought

Harambee Festival – A Huge Success By B.J. Fullylove On Saturday, October 29, the 36th Annual Harambee Festival took place and it was just that, a “Festival.” From the vendors to the entertainment, from the food to the weather, everything was as if God himself orchestrated the entire event. The atmosphere was of piece and tranquility and everyone had a great time. There were musicians playing ancestral music on ancient instruments, different foods to eat, live performances on stage and a host of polit-

beating San Francisco would be an easy assignment. But, in the game of baseball, good pitching is the best defense and the Giants had their share of good pitching throughout the series. The Giants got it, but for whatever reason, the Rangers never did. The Rangers’ pitchers struggled throughout the World Series. From game one of the series, the Giants’ pitching game was consistent, which is what you have to have in order to win. We can talk for days about all the things the Rangers did wrong and what went wrong and how the Rangers lost, but the bottom line is, they had one heck of a season! And Ron Washington, the new management along with those crazy cardiac kids deserve all the praise. They gave us a tremendous ride, and I still think RON WASHINGTON SHOULD BE MANAGER OF THE YEAR with a long extension on his contract. I can’t wait ‘til next year. BRAVO RANGERS! YOU MADE US PROUD!

Barber Shop Sports Talk with Leon Simon Sunday was Halloween. They had a costume party at the new Stadium in Arlington. The Jacksonville Jaguars came as playoff contenders, someLeon Simon thing they’ve been having trouble portraying lately, but played that role very well Sunday. The Cowboys came as a Zero, a role they’ve been playing really well lately. And the Cowboys gave an Academy award winning performance Sunday. The Jags came here with a team that was about as inept as our economy. Thirty minutes with these Zero’s, their quarterback David Garrard had the best

half an NFL quarterback has had percentage wise this season 10/ 10, 126 yards – 2 touchdowns. Derek Cox eventually had 2 interceptions, Mercedes Lewis 2 touchdowns. These are not pro bowlers these are Jaguars a team that a 1-5 Cowboys team was favored to beat. A defense that was thought to be Super Bowl quality, forced the Jags to punt only once in the first half. They also gave the Jags their longest touchdown pass of the year, a 42yarder. Mike Jenkins, Gerald Sensabaugh, Allen Ball, and Orlando Scandrick have to be the worst covering secondary the Cowboys has ever had, if not, I know they’re the worst tacklers in the NFL. Orlando Scandrick is the best argument I’ve ever heard for why Boise State shouldn’t be part of the bowl coalition. If he’s

a product of Boise State they should never let them in. I didn’t think Jon Kitna was still NFL caliber. I thought he played well enough to win with a good team. I think some of his wide receivers and running backs are less than NFL quality and that includes Miles Austin. Miles, not only is he beginning to drop passes, he drops them in the hands of other teams. All his drops started coming after he started being a song and dance man (jumping over Roy Williams’ head). It was suggested to me by someone I respect greatly that Wade is still trying to play 3-4 defenses with 4-3 personnel. That could explain why the Cowboys’ blitzes are being picked up very easily and in most cases welcomed, by opposing Offensive Coordinators.

www.dfwelitenews.com

After last week’s loss, I thought this team was a replica of the 1989 Cowboys. But that team had a better offensive line, this team doesn’t have one at all. With the exception of DeMarcus Ware, Antony Spenser, Jay Ratliff, and Maybe Dez Bryant, they could have traded the rest of them for draft choices. But they let the trade deadline pass. I think the 89 Cowboys had a lot more talent than this team. Before you think that was a joke, Remember Michael Irvin ,Nate Newton, Troy Aikman, Ken Norton, Jim Jeffcoat, Kevin Googan, Mark Tuinea, Bill Bates , Hershel Walker and I’m sure I’ve missed a few. Get you a pencil and match these guys at their positions with the present team and tell me when you see me. Looking at the schedule I think the record will be the same.

November 5, 2010

Welcome to the weekend, baaaaby! Wow! Congrats to our Texas rangers on an unbelievably awesome season! From the new ownership to Manager Ron Washingston and all the players, Hat's off to all of you for bringing "The" World Series to Dallas/Ft. Worth! Next year, let's win it all! Kevan Speaking of next year, the Browning Dallas Cowboys are reportedly interested (as I type this) in adding recently dumped Superstar receiever Randy Moss. Moss was fired my Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice for supposedly quitting in the middle of a play. Mike Tice may be the next on his way out of the coaching ranks as the Vikings are 2-5 and on their way down. Moss was dumped by the New England Patriots less than a month ago for running his mouth at the wrong time. What can Moss do for Dallas? How about make the defense double choose between double covering him or Miles Austin, or Dez Bryant. Right, they can't double everybody! jerry, ya blew it many years ago, if malls passes waivers on the two teams worse than Dez Bryant the Boyz in the NFL, don't sleep his time... Speaking of sports... Good luck to the Mavs, who've started their season and play Carmela Anthony and the Denver Nuggets Saturday at the AA Center and the Cowboys who travel to Green Bay for a Sunday night showdown...What's up in the world of romance??? Rapper 50 Cent is dating comedienne Chelsea Handler..."50" says they are just friends who "hook up" when they are in the same city...Handler says if anything develope's past the platonic, we'll be the 1st to know,lol...Right! Kim Kardashian has been in a recording studio working on a debut album with producer The Dream, whose hits include Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ and Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),’” ! One person who’s been inside a recording session tells us, “Kim’s got a really good voice.” I hate election campaigns that use those sucky negative commercial ads...A Los Angeles political firm is denying that it misled a congressional candidate in North Carolina about a radio ad for the candidate using an actor that sounded like actor Morgan Freeman. MEI Political said in a

statement Tuesday it made clear verbally and in writing to Republican B.J. Lawson’s campaign that it was using a voice double of Freeman for the ad, reports the AP. Lawson apologized Monday to Freeman after falsely claiming the actor had done a voiceover for his campaign. The camBeyonce paign blamed MEI Political for the incorrect claim about the ad. So sad.... My partner Bloodhound Benny reports another round of rumors claiming Beyonce is pregnant with her first child have flared up on the Web – this time from a source for Us Weekly who claims the pregnancy came as a total surprise to the singer and her husband, rapper-mogul Jay-Z. “B was shocked. She loves kids, but she wasn’t ready to be a mother just yet … She really wanted to get her album done and tour the world again,” the source said. Beyonce says ..."I am not preggers"... Say a prayer for the "Queen Of Soul! Aretha Franklin has canceled a concert in Charlottesville, Va citing health reasons. The Daily Progress reports the Queen of Soul called off the gig on the advice of her doctors. The concert had been rescheduled for Wednesday night at the Paramount Theater. It originally had been set for Oct. 1 but was pushed back after Franklin’s son, Eddie Franklin, was beaten at a Detroit gas station. Once again, let’s say goodbye to our beloved King of the South, T.I. as he checks back into prison. The rapper officially reported to Forrest City (Arkansas) prison on Monday to begin his 11-month sentence for being caught with ecstasy in September. T.I. will go through the process just like all other inmates. He will be known as inmate #59458-019(In case ya wanna put sumpin on his books) and wear the uniform khaki pants and shirt with black shoes. Oprah Winfrey’s visit to the Jackson family home in Encino, Calif. will air this Monday, Nov. 8 on her talk show. NOTES FROM UNION HOPE “God’s Presence Comforts and Assures” The church school lesson was “God’s presence Comforts and Assures” Ps.63. These are David’s thoughts during the time his son Absalom had attempted to take the kingdom. What David missed most of all was the Temple worship. He said his soul “thirsted” for the Lord. Unlike many church members who can miss Eld. Lloyd going to the worship service T. Morgan for long periods of time yet never miss the presence of the Lord and worship. David loved the Lord with all his heart, he said he lie awake at night meditating on the Lord. His condition did not dominate his thoughts, he did not have a pity party, he meditated on the lord he knew that the Lord keep those in perfect peace who have a mind stayed on him. The Morning message was delivered by

Elder L.T.Morgan “THE LORD'S THOUGHTS TOWARDS HIS PEOPLE.” (Jer 29:8-14). Israel had sinned against God and forsaken him. There was a false prophet named Hananiah, telling the people that they and all the temple vessels would be returned in two years. Watch out for false prophets! The Lord had told Jeremiah that the deported people and the temple vessels wouldn't be restored to the land until He visited the exiles at the end of their seventy-year captivity. God sent a word to the false prophet, the personal message was that the false prophet would die before the year was up, and two months later, he died. God’s words of encouragement to his people then are a word for his people now: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” God desires the best for his people but they must walk in obedience to his word. How’s your walk? God bless

for men in their times of need. Without friends it is often difficult to overcome the hardships of life. We all need support, affirmation and interaction with people who care for us. If you want a friend, you must show yourself to be a friend, wrote Solomon. An example of friendship remains with me as vividly as the moment I first heard of it as a boy. In his first seasons with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Jackie Robinson, the first black man to play Major League baseball, faced venom nearly everywhere he traveled. He suffered fastballs at his head, spikings on the bases, brutal epithets from the opposing dugouts and from the crowds. During one game in Boston, the taunts and racial slurs seemed to reach a peak. In the midst of this, another Dodger, a Southern white named Pee Wee Reese, called timeout. He walked from his position at shortstop toward Robinson at second base, put his arm around Robinson’s shoulder, and stood there with him for what seemed like a long time. The gesture spoke more eloquently than the words: This man is my friend. Amen! Friendships provide correction, reproof and training from someone we know and trust. We all have blind spots in our lives that friends are able to help us see. There are many areas where we all need to improve. Without friends we become narrow in our

thinking and unable to see a bigger picture of what God wants us to become in Christ. Ephesians 4:15 says, “Allow the Lord to use friends to help you grow in all aspects in Christ as they speak the truth in love.” Amen! Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, "What! You, too? I thought I was the only one." Friendships also have dangers, for friends can give bad advice, double-cross us, hurt you when they pull away from you and even lead you away from the Lord. Moses wrote in Deuteronomy 13:6-9, "If your very own brother or your son or daughter or the wife you love or your closest friend secretly entices you with, let us go and worship other gods, do not yield to him or listen to him. Show no pity. Do not spare him or shield him." Amen! Be careful of allowing friends to lead you astray or to follow after their complacent ways. Ask the Lord to help you to remember that you become like the people we associate with. Choose your friends carefully or you will become like those who have settled for mediocrity, faulty assumptions or standards that are less than biblical ideas. In a survey of more than 40,000 Americans these qualities were most valued in a friend: 1. The ability to keep confidences 2. Loyalty 3. Warmth and affection. Friendships bring the benefit of allowing us to disciple people who need to learn more of Christ’s Will for their life. Paul discipled Timothy in the context of a friendly relationship. He wrote, 2nd Timothy 2:2 says, "The things you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, the same commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." Amen! Utilize your friendship in a disciple-making and teaching ministry. Do not just assume that friendships are for your own gratification. Ask the Lord to help you find friendships in several mentoring relationships that will help you bring people to a higher level of spiritual and ministry maturity. Friendships should be on different levels. There are some friendships that will be on a mere acquaintance level, some will involve the sharing of facts, others will allow us to share more of our emotions and inner most feelings, other will be more engaging as we involve ourselves in sharing responsibilities and then finally there will be some rare friendships where we are able to be completely transparent, open and honest with a few close friends. Ask the Lord to help you be filled with the knowledge of His Will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding so you can know what level of friendship to have with each person you meet. Lastly, your opinion of people depends less upon what you see in them than upon what they make you see in yourselves. Now you know the facts about friendship. Amen!

Blazers great Maurice Lucas dies at 58 PORTLAND, Ore. -- Maurice Lucas, the fierce power forward known as "The Enforcer" who helped lead the Portland Trail Blazers to the 1977 NBA title, has died after a long fight with bladder cancer. He was 58. Lucas, who in later years was an assistant coach with the Blazers, died Sunday at his home in Portland, the team said. Marquette also retired his No. 20 and inducted him into its Hall of Fame, and Walton named his son Luke, who currently plays for the Lakers, after him. "I hadn't seen him as much lately, but he and my dad still talked all the time," Luke Walton said. "From what I heard, he had been in some pain for a while. It's tough. He's a great guy." The Trail Blazers were in the midst of a fourgame trip, with a game against the Chicago Bulls on Monday night. "We were so fortunate to have his influence on the young men on this team. He was my mentor, my big brother, and I always knew he had my back. He has left us far too soon," McMillan said. Lucas is survived by wife Pamela, sons David and Maurice II and daughter Kristin.
