Compassion? Professionalism? Common Sense? Which One weighs more In this Instance by Brenda Thomas, Elite News Email: brenda@elitenews.com Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle felt himself apologizing for the behavior of one of his police officers who seemingly believes he had done the right thing at the time. He allowed the power of his uniform and of his weapon to speak up for him in the particular instance in question. Was he being professional? Yes, one might say so. Was he trying to explain to NFL’s Running Back Ryan Moats the error of his ways and consequences and what was ahead of him? Yes, he was doing that too. B - U - T Officer Robert Powell dropped his compassion; left his common sense at home in the drawer, and his rationale flew out of the window. Chief of Police David Kunkle who has recently been scrutinized by this entire community, by his officers, and by the media, felt compelled to do something about the situation, so he placed Officer Robert Powell on paid administrative leave. During the traffic stop, caught on

another officer’s car camera, Powell berated the driver, 26 year old Ryan Moats, NFL running Back, while his family looked on in awe, and were stunned at the rationale of the Police Officer, so actually the initial report was made by the office, after several days had passed. Well, sir, thank you so much for not going along with this unlawful behavior of your fellow officer. Mr. Moats’ mother-law, 45 years old, Jonetta Collinsworth, was passing away, and trying to hold on for dear life (literally speaking), as she waited on the arrival of her entire family around her bedside. She held on for 13 minutes, and then her time had come and she went on to be with the Lord.

What Could Have Happened – But Didn’t 1) Police Officer Powell did not have to stop Moats from entering the bedside of his mother-in-law, especially while she was dying, as a nurse from

the hospital actually came and verified the fact that Ryan Moats was telling the truth. 2) Officer Powell, upon disbelief, could have escorted Mr. Moats in the room with the family which would have showed some respect and dignity of the DPD. 3) Officer Powell could have put himself in the position of the Moats family and used his better judgment; could have called Headquarters – asked a Superior Officer what was the next move he should make, and then got the ok from his Superior Officer. BUT NO, it didn’t happen. Instead, he went on to write up the ticket, which was later dismissed, and then made an attempt to write an apology letter – but for what? Who cares? This is truly after the fact? Was he trying to ease his own conscious? Did he use his better judgment when the incident ocurred. We don’t think so. Compassion? Professionalism? Common Sense? Which one weighs more in this instance?

Has Superintendent Michael Hinojosa Bowed and Crumbled to the Media?

(People in the Community Say There is No Leadership in DISD) By Darryl E. Blair, Elite News In recent developments, the Dallas Morning News has sought to highlight and embarrass various schools in the African American community. Blacks in Dallas have fallen victim to egregious decision by DISD and Mike Hinojosa. From the pulling of State Championships and illegal release of documents of students, never in the history of the DISD as far back as the leadership of WT White, Nolan Estes, Linus Wright, Marvin Edwards, Yvonne Gonzalez, Daniel Rojas, Chad Woolery, and Robert Paton, have we had to deal with $84 Million dollar budget deficits, low performing schools, laying off of teachers, credit card scandals, low student achievement and acknowledgment. It appears that Superintendent Mike Hinojosa has succumbed to the pressure of past, present, and pending media reports, and the African American community has been left to pay a dear price, as we are daily having our African

American administrators faced with the possibility of losing jobs, in the name of doing damage control, or laying down to the media. Jerry Bob Chambers said, “Dallas Superintendents have a history of messing over high school principals. And in Mike Hinajosa the Black Administrative leadership is under attack, and it will continue until we organize and show up on Ross in mass numbers to demand fair treatment or his resignation.” “Napoleon Lewis took over Lincoln’s new school in 1980 and did a tremendous job of raising the achievements of Lincoln, and making the City, State, and Nation aware of the Capabilities of those students who had otherwise been written off by the DISD and the South Dallas Community. He gave the children direction all the while providing a steady plan for teachers, Lincoln was, and still is a bright shining light.” Jerry Bob Chambers also said, “I have

a voice because I’ve put in the time.” Here’s a man (Principal Earl Jones) that’s working with his kids at Lincoln to raise the level of thinking for the community and student growth, and we have been able to use Lincoln as a springboard for motivation and moral booster for the children and community. But if we are not careful, Hinojosa will steal it all away. As he is attempting to do, in stating that he will re-assign Principal Earl Jones at the end of the year, and further send these children and that community into an abyss of failure and revolving door of principals. Enter the latest move to accommodate the media (DMN) who have sought out what appears to be misdeeds by Black School Administrators, who by all accounts and purpose have chosen to handle the situation of a student being paddled. This applies to Principal Earl Jones at Lincoln who has been informed

Prayer Closet PASTOR CLARENCE HENDERSON

Church Woman Of The Week

ELITE NEWS COLUMNIST

As we enter into our Prayer Closet, I want to remind you of the importance of “Full Surrender!” Jeremiah tells us (Jeremiah 29:13) how the Word of the Lord came to him saying, “Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye Pastor shall search for me Clarence with all your heart.” We cannot expect to Henderson pray effectively until we come to God wholeheartedly. No halfhearted man ever made a success in business. Only wholehearted husbands and wives make successful marriages. So it is with praying! Some people make good prayers only when they are desperate, only to discover that being desperate doesn’t mean that we are wholehearted, but being wholehearted could reveal

how desperate we are.

Christ's Resurrection Here is good news. It was always God's plan for Jesus Christ to die on the cross. Why? God is displeased with human sin and evil. God is also merciful. He provided a perfect sacrifice to pay for hate, murder and rebellion. That sacrifice was the death of Christ on the cross. As proof He accepted Christ's sacrifice for sin, Geraldine "God raised DavidsonHim up again" Hooker (Acts 2:24). Christ "humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore also God highly exalted Him" (Philippians 2:8-9). Christ was exalted by being raised from the dead. He then ascended into heaven. The disciples saw Him. "He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight" (Acts 1:9). Where did Christ go? "When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high" (Hebrews 1:3). Jesus Christ sat on the throne of heaven so that "every knee should bow . . . and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord" (Philippians 2:10-11). This truly is the Good News. Jesus Christ is risen and He is now reigning as Lord. You become a true Christian if "you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead" (Romans 10:9).

Remembering Love Through Forgiveness Matthew 6:14-15 "For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you." But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." Before we get started in the word of God I want to pose a question to you. I want you to think about this question as to how it relates to God. Let's imagine you Henry Nelson are out at the beach. You are having a great time doing your thing but you haven't noticed the tide is dragging you out. You're having fun in the sun until finally all of a sudden you are looking for the shore and cannot find it! How would you feel? You would feel lost, doomed, and you would be really afraid. As you notice the sharks circling all of the sudden you see a helicopter fly over you, and a man drops into the water with you. He harnesses you on the rope and the helicopter takes you up leaving him behind. You ask the pilot about that man and with tears in his eyes he tells you it was his son. They did not have enough fuel to take you and still get him out too. But he tells you His son wanted to save your life and gave his own to do it. You would feel a great deal of gratitude. You would want to know more about this man that gave his life for you. You would probably go to his grave and pay your respects and tell him you love him. Jesus did that for us. You would never forget that man. Never forget what Jesus did for you. Jesus Saved Us! In Ephesians 2:4 the bible says, "But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ by grace you have been saved. Amen! Remember where you come from. You have been given the gift of life through Jesus. By his sacrifice when He paid the price for your sins you were saved if you chose to let Him tie that rope around us and lift us to safety. According to Acts 2:21, "And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Amen! Jesus died for us. The main thing I want you to consider is that Jesus died for you what are you doing for Him? You read He forgives sins. You know it's true because you experienced it! Do you remember when you first came to God and understood how He washed your sins away? He doesn't hold them against you anymore! Why wouldn't you love Him? There are times when you forget what Jesus has done. Your love seems to dwindle down because you do not remember how much you have been forgiven! You do not remember what it was like to be lost out in the world without hope! You tend to forget those things and it makes it easy to become cold on the inside. Let me ask you; when someone saves your life would not you tell others about it? Would not you love that person enough to brag on them? All the time you see people bragging about their heroes who saved their lives. They go on TV and find it so easy to speak publicly about their heroes and yet we find it hard at times just to walk over to our neighbor and say "Jesus saved me". "He wants to save you". Amen! If you took it seriously and really thought about the love God showed to us it would be so much easier to show love to others. It would be easier to put something down

you enjoy to go tell someone about Jesus or to get in your bible and grow in God. Jesus said "if you love me, keep my commandments" Only two things did He really ever command. One was to love. The other was to go and share the love He gave us. Let me tell you something about new Christians. Have you noticed the zeal and fire they have for God? Do you ever wonder why that is? Just to share a personal and somewhat embarrassing story. When I first came to God I had such a desire to share Him with others! I went to the work school and proceeded to share my faith as best I could with my co-workers. I did not have a clue what I was doing, but I knew I needed to tell people about God! They were asking all these religious questions and I did not know what to tell them. I was new to it all myself. You see, I was forgiven. I had felt God take away my shame and sins. I knew what it was to feel the burden lifted. That is what makes new Christians such go getters. They know what God has done and Love Him so much for it! Later I learned more and started conforming more and more into what God wanted from me. I learned more and walked a narrower road. A lot of my bad habits were curtailed, but you know what I began to forget where I came from. I began to take the blood of Jesus for granted. You cannot do that. You need to remember where you come from and where you were heading. You need to remember those sins you still deal with and those prideful thoughts with your lack of urgency are still under the blood of Jesus! He has forgiven us! Doesn't that just make you love Him more? Doesn't it make you want to tell someone about this love you found? Stand out by having a Thankful and Loving Heart, from understanding God's Forgiveness. Amen! What are you going to do this week? Are you going to get in the bible? Are you reading because you love Jesus and want to be better able to follow Him into the lost world? If you are then why shut the door? Let's take the bible out to the lost and share this love! If you just remember what God has done for us and start loving Him. You would be able to win the lost. They are looking for something different. They are looking for love. They haven't really seen something they want from us. They have seen us go to work like them, spend time at the game like them, and just be like them in general. You complain about your boss and are angry at the same things as them. What do you have that they want? You have freedom! You have a load taken off of you that they still carry! You have a sure life eternal! But so many times you do not act like it because you do not really

www.dfwelitenews.com

remember what God has done! All they think you have is a belief in a book called the Bible! People remember things that are out of place. If you opened the book "Where is Waldo" and everyone but him was in total brown you could spot his red striped shirt a mile off. Ladies and gentleman you are to be a peculiar people. You should be different than the world. You should have something they do not. A grateful heart full of love. That is something they will see and notice. It is out of place. It is what will draw them. Show them you are more in love with God than anything else. Show them by being willing to tell them about the forgiveness you have found and the freedom it gives you. That is different. Normal is slinging your car into their parking space and then inviting them to church. They see it all the time. To close I just want to remind you again that Jesus has forgiven you of even more than you know. You should realize the weight of the forgiveness and love Him all the more. Your friends and family should see you show real love to others. Love they do not see normally. Amen! When you understand the true price that was paid it will be easy to have a heart overflowing with love and thankfulness. So much so that the world will see it and want it. It is why you are reading this message. To be able to go with love from a forgiven heart to reach the lost. Think about it when you go home. Think about how God saved you. Sometimes you need to remember how it began to know how to get to your destination. You need to remember what God has done and tell others what He will do. Go to the lost with thanksgiving and to God for your salvation. Lastly, now you know you must remember Love through Forgiveness. Amen!

NOTES FROM UNION HOPE “Envisioning new life” Our Sunday school lesson “Envisioning new life” Ezekiel 47:1-12 is truly an inspiration to all Gentile believers. God shows Ezekiel how vast would be the spreading of the word of God. After the restoration of Israel, the rebuilding of the Temple, the restoring of Eld. Lloyd temple worship for the T. Morgan Jews God shows how his grace and mercy would flow from the presence of God to every nation. The spreading of God’s grace brought life to everything and everybody that it touched. We are able today to approach God as his people because of the out flowing of the Gospel of grace. If you have accepted the finished work of Calvary then you have been touched by this life giving flow. These waters bring life to the driest places and persons, nothing or no one that have

been partaker of God’s grace can remain dead. There should be life in our worship services, life in our preaching, life in our out reach to the world. Every believer should spend some time telling someone about this living water. Our morning message was delivered by our beloved pastor Eld.L.T.Morgan from the subject “What manner of people ought we to be” from 2Peter 3:10-14. We seldom hear anything about the second coming of the Lord in our churches anymore, it seem that everyone is more interested in getting all they can in this present world. Peter warns us that one day everything that we can see, touch or smell will pass away. Because we know that this world is temporal we should be preparing for the world to come which is eternal. Jesus said he was coming as a thief in the night “are you ready?” What would it profit us if we gained this whole world and lose our soul? Be blessed Brenda King

SPORTS “The Survey of the Walls of America” What a lot of people do not understand about the president that we have today is really a mystery to most people who do not know anything about God. According to the up bringing of President Obama, it was God who prepared him from his youth to now. Just look at him, things were not all that easy for him. He finished at the top of his class at Harvard University, and now he is our President. The thing, which is unusual about this president compared to the Gene Turner other 43 presidents, is Out of the Eyes the fact that this presiof a Layman dent is over qualified for the job of president. If you do a research on the other 43 presidents, you will find that John F. Kennedy is the only president who comes close to the knowledge of this president. The White House and this country have never seen or witnessed a mind like President Obama’s ever to sit in the seat of President of America. President Obama puts me in the mind of Nehemiah in – Nehemiah 2:11-16. If

you read this section of scripture you will find that Nehmiah knew that sharing with the people of Jerusalem without doing some research and planning was a mistake. He took a few people into his confidence that he could trust (His cabinet). Then he made a careful survey of the walls to analyze the problem he faced. After spending many night hours of carefully surveying the walls to avoid letting others know his plans before they were fixed in his own mind. During these night hours he was able to develop an effective plan to accomplish the task he was put in office to accomplish. When we get to the 17th verse we find that after Nehemiah had completed his secret survey and was satisfied that he had developed a workable plan, the time had come to reveal to the common people. First he challenged them to notice their deplorable circumstances, which had brought them trouble and disgrace. Then he challenged them to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and followed his challenge with a personal testimony. The same thing that happened in Jerusalem will soon happen here in America. Look what happened when Nehemiah gave his challenge, the people’s negative feelings

became positive. Despair turned to hope. They responded and began the rebuilding process. This will soon happen right here in America, because all of these negative talkshow programs, and red neck attitudes against President Obama because of race will soon have to disband their tactics because of the success revealed as he said it would. Nobody has ever seen a president this cool and calm about his every move and thought. He’s assured of what he is doing will work, the same as Nehemiah, because he knew God was with him. President Obama knows that God is with him. First of all he knows that he never would have gotten into this position had it not been for God. Just look at the parallelisms here: Israel was in slavery over 400 yearsNegro’s was also in slavery over 400 years, and from George Washington to Barack Obama is over 400 years. This seems to be God’s gage, or whatever method, it’s God’s time, but there is a parallelism here that means something for us to take a look at. You see, President Obama is withstanding the same identical thing Nehemiah did in his day. You see, all these negative talk-

WAHEED’S PICS PAST & PRESENT ON THE SCENE WITH THE ELITE NEWS A Thrill on the Hill By Brenda Thomas, Elite News Email at brenda@elitenews.com Orlando, Florida – Sunday, March 29, the spectators at the Arnold Palmer Invitational Golf Classic watched Tiger Woods make a “cool” comeback, as he performed the seemingly impossible. They said it couldn’t be done. They said he wouldn’t do it. But they forgot about the awesome ability of the “T” man when he gets a golf club in his hands. Sean O’Hair surely did not expect him to do it. He was leading the golfers at one time at the top of the liter board, and Tiger was trying to recover from reconstructive knee surgery a week after his US Open meeting. Woods put the putt in the hole and broke into a routine that was similar to a year ago. He crouched and backpedaled as the ball rolled to the hole, but instead of slamming his cap to the ground, he punched the air with a roundhouse and hugged his caddie, Steve Williams, who lifted him slightly into the air. “Will the blue jacket help him win a green one? It does, a lot," Woods said. "This win definitely validates all the things I've been trying to do."

catch up to O'Hair, he spent the final hour trying to hang on. It wasn't without some drama. O'Hair, who made only one birdie in his round of 73, was clinging to a oneshot lead on the par-3 14th when Woods caught a plugged lie under the lip of the bunker. He blasted out to just over 12 feet, while O'Hair had a 15-footer for birdie. "Sean looked like he made his putt, and if he makes and I miss, all of a sudden there's three shots," Woods said.

He hit the ball beautifully two weeks ago at Doral and couldn't make a putt. He scraped it around for the better part of three days at Bay Hill and was saved by his short game. Everything fell together in a final round Sunday that was delayed for two hours by rain. The victory was helpful, but it was the manner in which he won that excited Woods. For the first time since Torrey Pines, he felt his heart race and his adrenaline rush. After spending four hours trying to

O'Hair missed. Woods made his par putt. And on the next hole, Woods drained a 25-foot birdie putt to tie for the lead. The sun began to dip behind the trees, lowering the temperatures, and O'Hair believes that might have cost him. He had a 7-iron from the 16th fairway that was going right of the flag when it fell short and tumbled into the water. Woods hacked out of the rough and hit a splendid wedge to 3 feet to save par, giving him a one-shot lead. "I think what happened is when the sun was going down a little bit, I guess that kind of proved to me that the ball wasn't quite going as far," O'Hair said.

Woods could relate. He posed over a 4-iron that was headed right for the flag when it came down short and into another plugged lie under the lip of a bunker. This time, Woods made bogey and they were tied again. It came down to the final hole, which is Woods' domain - especially at Bay Hill. He won with a birdie on the 72nd hole for the third time at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. There was a 15-foot bending birdie to beat Phil Mickelson in 2001, and the 25-footer to beat Bart Bryant last year. Woods, who finished at 5-under 275, won for the 66th time in his career. And while the finish was so similar to his Bay Hill victory last year, this was different. "Last year ... there wasn't any big comeback or anything. I was out there just competing as usual," Woods said. "This time, it was a little bit different. I hadn't been in the mix since the U.S. Open, so it was neat to feel the heat on the back nine again." And did that heat feel any different? "No it didn't," he said. "It's like Stevie was saying out there, this feels like we hadn't left. You can understand that sometimes.

So what does it accomplish to move this accomplished, driven principal to another campus, and take away stability, progress, and accomplishment from Lincoln? What will moving Earl Jones accomplish? Absolutely Nothing! But further isolate a school and a school system from growth, why is it that the only tools of correction are being used are African American Administrators and our community, where was this measurement of correction as it relates to Caucasians, and Hispanic Administrators with regards to the budget, and all of the financial scandals? you show proof of “wrong doing” and allow us the decency of seeing these things come down the pipes as oppose to letting the other media and media outlets blindside us with allegations and firings. We as a community and people need to take a stand now against the detrimental acts against our students and community. We are at a critical point in the African American Community and should no longer take the setbacks and disrespect from the leadership of the DISD. Every parent, student, African American Teacher/Adminstrator need to rally up and start a full fledge protest and sit in on Ross until the positive changes are made for our students and our community. Remember a Community / City is only as good as its Educational System.

shows and redneck sanballant’s and Tobiah’s who are trying to hinder progress. They are using every demoralizing technique that they can come up with to redicule President Obama. A lot of rednecks in this country would rather see this country suffer, and themselves also, rather than see a Black President accomplish his goal for America. There are many that would like to see President Obama fail in his desire to bring creditability back to America, they do not want it to be a person of color that does it. The Lord put President Obama there and everybody better understand that. You see, the American public was Artaxerxes (the king) who let President Obama go to the White House, the

same way Artaxerxes the King of Persia allowed Nehemiah to go to Jerusalem. Do we see the parallelisms here? It’s the comparison we are looking at right here. After reading about Nehemiah in Sunday School we thought this is gone and forgotten, no, no, here it is again. Just in a different manner, but the same methods and situations. “But God”- God is good, and nobody can hamper God's plan for what is already His. If nobody else prays for President Obama, let us pray for him. God already has him in his hand, but that does not mean we do not have to pray for him. Let us not forget to read our Bibles, and may God BLESS YOU REAL GOOD and may He ever keep you in His loving care.
