You Can Relax Your Grip On It Isaiah 40:27-31 27 “Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God"? 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, Henry Nelson the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. When I started out my prayer time yesterday, these were the first words out of my mouth: "God, I am tired." You might be eating a different dinner, but your plate is full, too. Man was made for work. Genesis’ 2:15 says, “The Lord God
took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. Man named the animals as God brought them by. God’s intent was to partner with man in the administration of his creation. Mark Lowry talks about how Adam’s creativity waned as time went on. The names of animals became less complex. He started with names that had several syllables, such as rhinoceros, hippopotamus, etc. By the end of the day he was calling them things like cat, dog, and cow. Man got tired. God understood this. God also knew he needed a helper. Genesis 2:18 says, The Lord God said," It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." Amen! God did not make man to be a superhero. He did not create us to be a lone ranger. You need others. But the combined work of Adam and Eve was only productive because of their relationship with God. Genesis 3:8 says, “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day. It was only when the relationship between the man, his helper, and his God got messed up that work became a struggle.
Genesis 3:17-19 says, “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground. Amen! On the eighth day, God created stress. Well I am not sure that God actually created it. Perhaps it is just the natural result of our work when we are not in harmony with God. You see Adam had decided to be the master of his own world, and God let him. The problem was Adam was not as good at being God as God was. Amen! We always fall short. We run out of energy. We run out of answers. We run out of resources. This is why we need to stay in close relationship with God. He does not grow tired. His understanding is unfathomable. He gives! It is ok to be tired. Psalms 103:14-17 says, “For he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him. Amen!

Isaiah 40:30-31 says, Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. Amen! The only way to regain strength is to rest. This was the blessing of the Sabbath and the refusal to honor the Sabbath was man’s greatest demonstration that he was not partnering with God. Sometimes we are like babies that are fighting sleep. That baby is miserable, and getting all worked up, because it fears that it might miss something. And we are just saying if you would just sleep it would all be ok. That must be how it is so often between us and God. He’s saying, “Would you just relax? Matthew 11:28-30 says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Amen! A yoke is what you put on beasts of burden. But the picture here is not God taking his yoke off and giving it to us. Most yokes were double, allowing the

Rainbow PUSH to address advertising, media issues with Marketing & Media Project (July 6, 2010) Today, the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., founder and president of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, announced the creation of the Marketing & Media Project to coordinate the organization's activities and initiatives within the advertising and media industries. The Marketing & Media Project will join RPC's other industry-focused projects whose mission is to protect, defend, and gain civil and economic rights by leveling the playing fields. The current initiatives are The Telecommunications Project, The Peachtree Street Project, The Automotive Project, The Energy & Science Project, The Entertainment Project, The Wall Street Project, and The Silicon Valley Project. "For more than a decade we have engaged corporations on their contracts and economic relationships with African American advertising agencies and African American media companies," said Rev. Jackson. "The creation of The Marketing & Media Project signals the elevation of that dialogue at a critical time. Current economic factors have put these businesses in peril because Corporate America has ignored the unique expertise they possess, while discounting the bottom-line significance of the consumers they represent. By centralizing our resources we can better achieve justice and economic fairness for all." Rainbow PUSH will invite African Americanowned advertising agencies, public relations firms, marketing communications firms and media companies to become member partners of The Marketing
& Media Project and to provide RPC with insight and strategy on the critical issues they are facing. At its recent annual conference, RPC announced an agreement reached with KFC in which the restaurant chain will partner with minority-owned marketing firms to develop programs and strategies targeting minority consumers, and allocate up to 10% of KFC's national media budget. Among the issues that The Marketing & Media Project will immediately address are: - Securing opportunities and fairness as part of the proposed merger of Comcast and NBC Universal - Initiating a dialogue with The Obama administration's Interagency Task Force on Federal Contracting Opportunities on increasing the allocation of the $1 billion Federal advertising budget to African American-owned ad agencies and media - Negotiating with the automotive, telecom and other industries on the engagement of African American advertising agencies, public relations firms and other professional services companies - Entering into a dialogue with marketing and media trade associations on a commitment of inclusion of African American professionals within their ranks - The establishment of research and databases to quantify the economic relationship between marketers, advertising agencies, black radio stations, black newspapers, black magazines, black TV and cable companies and the African American consumer market - Establish coordination between all entities of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition on marketing, media and advertising issues at the local and national levels, including 1000 Churches Connected and PUSH Excel The Marketing and Media Project will be based at RPC's headquarters in Chicago, IL. The Rainbow PUSH Coalition is a progressive organization devoted to protecting, defending and expanding civil rights to improve economic and educational opportunity. The organization is headquartered at 930 E. 50th St. in Chicago. To learn more, please visit rainbowpush.org or call 773-373-3366.

By Harrison Blair & Jordan Blair, II It’s Friday night and that PYT you met in church last Sunday accepted your date proposal for tonight. With the intentions of making a good impression, you head to your closet and pull out the smoothest outfit you own. You put your clothes on in a hurry because it’s already 6:15 p.m., and you have to pick her up at 7:00 p.m. for dinner and a movie. You look in the mirror and check out how slick to the bone you’ve gotten for this date. The shoes are matching the shirt and the hat is matching the pants with the belt setting everything off just right. You have the watch on your wrist that you know is going to catch some attention. The Oil Shack was the brainchild of Johnny Johnson. Mr. Johnson opened the Oil Shack’s doors in October of 2005. I asked Mr. Johnson where he got the idea to open such a business.

And they Stood Every Man in His Place Judges 7:21 God called upon Gideon to do a certain thing> God commanded Gideon to reduce his army from 3,200 to three (300) hundred, to face the 135,000 Midinites. The Midinites outnumbered Gideon’s army 450 to Gene Turner one (1). Nevertheless, Out of the Eyes of God gave the victory to a Layman Gideon because of obedience. When we are obedient to God’s word God always blesses us. When we read chapter 7 and 8 we find that every man stood in his place. You see, that’s what we must do, and that is to stand in our own place. There is a person in one of our sister
churches that do not understand how to stand in His or Her own place. This member must be is some position in the church that has access to the church business, because they have too many details concerning the operation of the church. Not only does this person not understand how to keep things within the family, which is the church where they are a member, but they deliberately write letters to all the other Pastors and churches in their District describing in detail what is going on in the Pastoral Department, and the financial status of the church funds, and where they are going, and who is responsible for the disappearing of certain moneys. The reason Gideon was successful in the battle against the Midinites was because the people he led was obedient to God’s will, and word. God deals with one

leader at a time, not 2 or 3. The Pastor of any church is the one and only leader of that church. Now, I grant you that there is such a thing as leaders within the church, but not leaders “of the church. There is a difference, a church cannot and will not run smooth without leaders within the church, but they are not the leaders “of the church. God has given that position to the Pastor only. Every member is commanded by God himself, that every member of any church to stand in his/her place, not someone else’s place. Every member has something to do within the church; if it is nothing but to keep your mouth closed, and take care of what God want you to take care of. You see, the church works like any family. Daddy is the leader of the family, Mama is the chairman, and the children are members in good standing with the decisions passed down from Daddy. If there is a problem with anything within the family. Any family member can meet with other family member and the father and attempt to iron things out without anyone else knowing about their malfunction within the family structure. Any member of any family who cause disgrace to come upon said family, or dishonor in any fashion is not fit to call himself or herself a part of said family. They are worse off than the men who lapped the water instead of dipping water with their hands to drink. The one’s who lapped was dismissed, because they were detrimental to the cause. You will find this in Judges 7:1-10. What are you saying Bro. Turner? I am saying that any member who would write letters to other Pastors/Churches is considered lappers, and should be dealt with the same way Gideon did with them in those days. The church body should come together and dismiss this person from the church body "“PRONTO" There is no excuse for any member of a church to act in this manner. I would not want to walk beside this person while a thunderstorm is going on. Do you understand what I mean? I hope you caught that. Let’s honor our family secrets, and handle our own problems within ourselves. Let us not forget to read our Bibles. May God bless you REAL GOOD and may He ever keep you in His loving care.

Forgive as He Forgave The 95th Annual Session of the State Congress of Christian Workers It seems like sooner or later everyone gets misof the Missionary Baptist General Convention Convenes in Dallas treated and hurt. Many times the actions against us are unintentional, but other times they can be extremely malicious. Suddenly, this hurt begins to invade every other area of our life. We carry a heavy burden which we know we don't deserve and which we certainly don't desire to keep but it's a burden we can't seem to let go. There is only one true way to relieve the burden of our hurt, and it always begins with forgiveness. True forgiveness can be difficult Geraldine and require great humilDavidson-Hooker ity. We want the other person to first ask (maybe even beg) for our forgiveness. We would like them to admit the hurt they caused; and, if we are honest, we probably would prefer them to suffer...just a little. But this is generally not God's plan. Colossians 3:13: "Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." If we have come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ, we have first come face to face with our sinful nature. Without an understanding that we are full of sin, we will never reach out for a savior. And if we have experienced the true meaning of God's love, "while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8), we will be compelled to reach out and love others. If we truly understand His forgiveness of us, can we really withhold our forgiveness of those who have caused us pain? Jesus told a parable of a man who failed to forgive a small debt when his master had just forgiven him a much greater debt: "'Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?' In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed" (Matthew 18:33-34). Do we really understand how much we have been forgiven? Or our inability to repay? Yet our debt has been completely forgiven by grace through faith in Jesus, and we are now commanded to forgive others. God established the standard for forgiveness. We are not called to forgive because someone deserves or has earned our forgiveness, we are called to forgive simply because God first forgave us. When we forgive, we must strive to make the forgiveness complete; "For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more" (Hebrews 8:12). Though we may carry a healthy level of new caution as the relationship continues, we must never place conditions on maintaining our forgiveness. There WILL be times when we are burdened with hurt. But let's not seek revenge or try to withdraw and hide our pain. Let's follow the commands of God's Word and be set free! Let's grow closer to our Heavenly Father and see through His eyes. Let's share His love and forgive as He forgave.

Prayer Closet PASTOR CLARENCE HENDERSON ELITE NEWS COLUMNIST
Let's continue from last week, our concern about effective prayer. I believe that we all agree that prayer is a powerful weapon, and our prayer channels must be clear for this to be so. Confession and forgiveness are the two ingredients that must not be ignored as we Pastor advance in effective prayer. Clarence Confession, means to Henderson acknowledge or disclose something damaging or inconvenient to one's self; to acknowledge or admit something. Forgiveness, means to excuse a fault or offence; to pardon; to relinquish anger, resentment or bitterness against a person. From these definitions, we can see clearly why confession and forgiveness are the appropriate response to the holiness of God.

Relax, Continued from Page 2 weight of the burden to be shared between two beasts. God is inviting us to partner with him. He says learn of me. I am gentle and humble. His yoke is a double yoke. God is inviting someone reading this message today to rest. Remember whose yoke this is. So what is your dream? What is it that you are trying so hard to accomplish? What is it that God has called you to do? I am so proud of all of you. You are excited about what is happening. You are excited about what is happening in your family, or on your job. Many of you have been working to make your church a great place to go to church. You have been working to share the Gospel with people and that is good. It is exactly what God wants you to be doing. But now I feel like God has a word for us. He is saying, “Do not forget that I am really the one that is pulling the load here.” We are going to fall short. We’re going to drop the ball. We are going to get tired. Amen! God is saying to us, “That is ok. You’re going to fail. But I am not. So relax and

stick with me!” I want you to bow your head with me and I want you to think about this past week. What was it that kept you awake? I want you to think about your biggest problem. What is the greatest struggle in your life right now? What is that yoke that you’ve got your arms wrapped around right now? Now I want you to relax. How? Give it to God! I want you to imagine looking at that yoke and follow it across to the other side. Take one look at the man on the other side in the yoke with you. He has done this a time or two. He is an old hand at fulfilling dreams. This is really his burden you can relax your grip on it. From the beginning, this whole effort was intended to be a partnership with God. He knew we would run out of energy, answers, and resources. You might think, “Huh? He set us up to fail?” Absolutely not he set us up to depend on Him, and succeed! So now you know why this is really his burden so you can relax your grip on it. Amen!

ENTERTAINMENT Barber Shop Sports Talk with Leon Simon There must be something in the air or in our food that really make us proud. For some strange reason we think that every sporting event, every performance and every athlete is the greatest ever. As if prior to this generation events, performances, and athletes were all two left feet or Cyclopes. Is life so boring that we’re trying to find something to believe in? For the benefit of you that can’t get that on Sundays believe it’s not in a Gym, football or baseball diamond. We make today’s athletes think they’re the best thing since sliced bread. And they in turn think their salary should be compared to that of the budget of the Dept. of Defense. Contrary to today’s popular belief there was baseball before Albert Pujols; basketball before LeBron or Kobe ; football before Chris Johnson. In each of these sports we as media have made a case that these young men could be the best ever in their respective sport. And today’s fan has to pay for our irresponsibility. Some of these guys could have legitimate claims. They’ve been in the game long enough to at least build a resume. That brings me to Chris Johnson. Running back for The Tennessee Titans. After 2 seasons with The Titans he says he wants to be the highest paid player in the league( thanks to ESPN’s sport center). It has to be media driven because he just acquired this inflated opinion of himself, because if he had it earlier there is no way he would have gone to East Carolina. That’s not an indictment of East Carolina it’s just not the origin of the greatest running backs ever.
USC, Syracuse, Florida, have a little history of great athletes, East Carolina – not. We do know that Walter Peyton didn’t go to Notre Dame, but Walter never said he wanted to be the highest paid player in the league. He surely wouldn’t have said it after his second season. Leon Simon If this search for the greatest ever had occurred 4 years ago; it was a given that LaDanian Tomlinson was on his way to break Emmitt Smith’s all-time rushing record of 16,743 yds. Then here comes Adrian Peterson. Big, powerful and fast and LaDanian was forgotten…f aster than the Chevy Corvair. Since then LaDanian was released by the Chargers and is now employed by the New York Jets in a back- up role. Peterson enjoyed the position of GOAT (greatest of all time) for a couple years. His team with a 40 plus year old Quarter back in Brett Favre now they’re a passing team. If ESPN had come along in the late 50’s or early 60’s, showing Willie Gallimore, Gayle Sayers, Jimmy Brown, highlights and such defensive guys as Dick Butkas, Gene (Big Daddy) Lipscomb, Dick (Night Train) Lane, salaries in the NFL would be so high. The only way you could see a game would be on T.V. Because if Chris Johnson can make his demands after 2 years, it’s a good thing Jimmy Brown was happy with his salary after his second year.

Settling For Less, Dirk Stays Home So Will Lebron James By Bettye Williams Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks is sticking with the Dallas Mavericks. On Saturday night, Nowitzki and Mavs owner Mark Cuban agreed "to get it done." Teams and free agents can strike deals at any time, but can't sign them until Thursday. Many negotiations took place for the deal of more than $80 million over four years, with a no-trade clause. A spokes person stated that because of the condition of anonymity of the NBA's moratorium rule, they were not allowed to comment until Thursday. Dirk Nowitzki, now 32 years old, was the 2007 NBA MVP and has spent his entire 12year career as a Dallas Maverick. He is the franchise's career scoring and rebounding leader and has led the Mavericks to 10 straight 50-win seasons. Even though they haven't won a championship, they have won “one” single playoff series since blowing a 20 lead in the 2006 NBA finals. The Mavericks, though, remain well over the salary cap, restricting them to complicated sign-and-trade bids for top free agents such as Lebron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers who is also a free agent, but of course, will do just like Dirk and stay home. Lebron James, who is now 25, was the two-time league's MVP. James would make a huge financial sacrifice to leave Cleveland, with the Cavaliers capable of signing him to a
maximum six-year contract for about $125 million. He would have to take a five-year deal worth nearly $100 million to leave for any team other than Miami, would have to take slightly less than the maximum allowed, but we all know, there’s no place like home. Nowitzki opted out of the final year of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent for the first time. He didn't talk seriously with any other teams, but there was a bit of drama to what might have seemed like a slam-dunk return. He kept changing his plans from opening free agency in Germany to flying to Dallas to making a detour through New York. Many meetings were held on Friday, which led to more meetings on Saturday, leaving Mavs fans fearful of him walking away like his pal Steve Nash did six years ago. Many viewers, fans, coaches and teammates did not know whether or not Dirk would sign, but all were relieved to know that Nowitzki, on his third day as a free agent, decided to stay put and free up some money by not pushing for his maximum deal, which would have been $96 million. The deal was first reported by ESPN and Dirk Nowitzki fans were happy to know they still have Dirk. Now the question is, since Dirk is staying another four years as a Dallas Maverick, if Dallas does not win a championship, will he stay or go somewhere else for a year or two?
Treasurers, Continued from Page 4 a guilty conscience about selling tobacco products. He noted that he also noticed that the oil and air freshener sold much faster than the tobacco. With that in mind he jumped into the oil business with both feet. They now have every major scent your nose can smell. As my brother and I opened the door to the Oil Shack, we were lifted and drifted in by the amazing smell of what we later found out was Vanilla Pineapple, a very popular air freshener to the Oil Shack’s customers. The environment offered a very welcoming feeling with a relaxing persona. Once we got over the welcoming aroma, Nucleus Johnson, son of Johnny Johnson, was ready to help us find our scent. We smelled quite a few oils. By the time we were done, our noses were full of joy. The Oil Shack had every designer perfume or cologne we could name and if they didn’t at that time, they could get it. We also sat with the Johnson’s as they helped other customers. The customer service is as good as the product. Every customer is greeted with airconditioning, a clean environment and the undeniably good smell of oil. If your are ever in the Oak Cliff area and you want to ride the cloud of smooth scents, then make your way to 1410 Bonnie View Road and check it out for yourself. CITY BEAT NOTES FROM UNION HOPE “God’s Cosmic Plan” Do you think of what will be the end of the Christian experience or life in general? If the rapture of the church should happen today or tonight would you be left behind? Our church school lesson “God’s Cosmic Plan” 1Thess.5:111 speaks to those that Eld. Lloyd were concerned about T. Morgan God’s great end plan. Paul says that the coming of the Lord will happen as a thief in the night, unannounced and unexpected. We don’t seem interested in these things anymore we all seem to be earthbound Christians only interested in what we can get in the here and now. But Paul says we must live in readiness looking for the coming of our King. Paul says that they that sleep sleep in the night and those that are drunken are drunken in the night. This infers that
those that continue in sin are unaware of God great plan for this world. Our morning sermon was delivered by our anointed pastor Eld.Lloyd Morgan from the subject “The blessings of God is in the doing” John 13:15-17; Phil 4:9. The real proof of a person’s salvation is what they do not what they say. James warns us about hearing and not doing (James 1:22-25). Religious works may be manufactured, but they do not have life in them, nor do they bring glory to God. Real fruit has in it the seed for more fruit, so that the harvest continues to grow fruit, more fruit, much fruit (John 15:1-5). We must show what we are by what we do. The Usher Ministry of Union Hope will be holding “Fair for Christ” event on July 17, starting time 10:00am until 3:00 pm. There will be fun and games for all ages; they are also renting space to those who would like to participate. To rent a space contact Sis.Ora Morgan @214-287-2012. Be blessed
