Refreshing Your Vision For Christ Timothy 1:3-8 I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear Henry Nelson conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-disciplineSo do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God,

e is a newly graduate Bachelor of Theology majoring in Missions under the careful watch of his mentor and the dean who is holding a doctorate in law and philosophy. His heart and mind is full of visions and dreams for his organization and for his church. He is young and energetic though little
bit formal and short spoken guy. He used all his theological and theoretical knowledge to deal with all the challenge and problems of leading pioneering missions called the Church of Ephesus. But Pastor Timothy as they called him realized later that it takes more than training and theological knowledge to lead a church. His young age, a deteriorating health and the huge responsibility is gradually fading his vision, killing his passion and eating his energy. Paul had to write his second letter to renew Timothy’s vision for the church. It is good to have spiritual leader who is sensitive enough to feel the need to refresh our vision and help us realign our discourage heart. You may never be a pastor of a church like Timothy. But if somewhere along the way, discouragement finds its way to darken your vision for whatever endeavor you are doing for God, for your family or for your country, so then this message is right also for you. You need to refresh your vision and rejuvenate your heart and mind. God’s purpose for the church is also relevant to the purpose of our lives. Let me give you an example. Angeline is a nurse while her husband is a construction worker. They are happy family as they are both faithful and they love each other and they have

should be also our own dream for our personal lives as we grow closer in our relationship with God. 1. A VISION TO GIVE GLORY TO GOD IN WORSHIP 2nd Timothy 1:3 says, “I thank God Whom I worship with a pure conscience, in the spirit of my fathers, when without ceasing I remember you night and day in my prayers. “ Amen! Worship is more than attending a mass or a worship service. Worship is a way of life. It is how you conduct yourselves and behave even in the secret of your own room as Paul said; I worship with a pure conscience. Worship is the very reason why God created us with the capacity to choose between good and evil. God made us with free Will so that you can choose to love or disobey Him. You are not a robot or a computer which will follow whatever program was installed to it. God will be happier to receive your love and obedience if it is from your own decision to love and obey him and this is what is called worship. Amen! two kids. However, they have a dream and it is to build their own house because they are just renting an apartment. Angeline went abroad to help her husband raise the money for their dream house. But while working in one hospital in the Middle East, Angeline met David a handsome Medical Technologist. It did not take a long time and Angeline forgot all about her dream house and a happy family. Her dream had melted because of new found relationship with David. One day, some of her friends informed her husband in the Philippines about her secret relationship and this cause her family to break down. After few months, she received a call that one of her kids died due to Malaria. On that point Angeline realized her mistake and decided to stop her wrong relationship with David. She went to a church for counseling. The pastor told her to renew her old vision for her family. She would have to humble herself; ask forgiveness to her husband and to build her family again. Amen! I do not know on what stage your situation might be today. But this New Year, I encourage you to refresh your original vision for God and for your family before it’s too late. Let us study the word of encouragement of Paul to Timothy to renew his vision for God. God has a vision for the Church and it

his Monday, January 16, we will be released from our workplaces out into the streets of South Dallas to celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr., as we have for more than two decades. But it’s a holiday that almost never happened. The Legislation was introduced just months after the death of the civil rights icon, in 1968, the holiday wasn’t observed nationally for the first time until 18 years later. Elite News will celebrate "A Day On, Not A Day Off" with the celebration of the 26th Annual Martin Luther King Jr's legacy with a parade and festival in sunny South Dallas. We are happy to announce and tell you about this ears Elite News Parade Grand Marshals and Marshals. Justin Martin is a dedicated client advocate with a passion for representing those in the DFW community that are taken advantage of by the insurance companies. His devotion and experience has allowed him to defend thousands of DFW accident victims. Justin and childhood friend David Godsey, teamed up shortly after graduating from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law to form what is now known throughout DFW as,IJustGotHit.COM. Godsey Martin is the largest African American owned personal injury law firm in the state of Texas. David and Justin’s dedication to Justice and the people of DFW, has resulted in Millions of dollars of recovery. Similar to Dr. King’s vision for equality and freedom, David and Justin’s stance for justice is one of passion and fortitude. Their beliefs and commitment to the Dallas Fort Worth community on both a professional and personal level, is unwavering. The successful partnership, which makes up Godsey Martin, is a symbol for justice, which protects the equality and freedoms of the DFW community. “As advocates of justice, our responsibilities have a personal element that can’t be ignored. DFW is where we worship, work and raise our families. It is our responsibility as human beings, to protect this community.” –Justin L. Martin It is no surprise that David L. Godsey’s professional path is one of hard work and strategic experience. Shortly after graduating from Huston-Tillotson University, David took a position with a globally recognized insurance company as an insurance adjuster and manager; his time as an adjuster and manager in the insurance industry motivated his decision to pursue his law degree. lished his reputation as aplaintiff trial attorney and partner with The Jackson Law firm, representing accident victims against the big insurance companies. His experience both as an adjuster and plaintiffs trial attorney has provided him with the unique expertise needed, to protect those that the insurance company may otherwise take advantage of. Today, David Godsey and childhood friend Justin Martin, are managing partners of the largest African American owned law firm in the state of Texas, Godsey Martin, P.C.. Their passion and expertise has resulted in millions of dollars of recovery for those who have been affected by an accident, due to no fault of their own. Similar to Dr. King’s vision for equality and freedom, David and Justin’s stance for justice is one of passion and fortitude. Their beliefs and commitment to the Dallas Fort Worth community, on both a professional and personal level, is unwavering. The successful partnership which makes up Godsey Martin, is a symbol for justice, which protects the equality and freedoms of the DFW community. “We started Godsey Martin based on one simple principal, protect our community. As we continue to do what is right, the rest will take care of itself.” -David L. Godsey Singer/songwriter Shirley Murdock is best known for the ethereal ballad "As We Lay," which was produced by Roger Troutman. Murdock started out singing gospel music in her native Toledo. Troutman hired her as a background singer for his family's group Zapp, who had several hits on Warner Brothers (or its Reprise imprint). Based on this success, Troutman began recording tracks with Murdock and lead singer Sugarfoot of the Ohio Players, among others, at his Dayton-based recording studio Troutman Sound Labs. Murdock and Troutman's first charting single was a Warner single issued as Roger (Featuring Shirley Murdock), "Girl, Cut It Out," which charted at number 79 R&B in early 1985. Murdock was signed to Elektra Records with the pumping "No More," which made it to number 24 R&B in early 1986. Then came her signature hit, "As We Lay," written by Zapp's Larry Troutman and keyboardist Billy Beck (of the Ohio Players). The tender, melancholy ballad made it to the R&B Top Ten and peaked at number 23 pop in 1986. Her LP Shirley Murdock went gold, also helped along by the follow-up hits "Go on Without You" and "Be Free." She also released full-lengths in 1988 (A Woman's Point of View) and 1991 (Let There Be Love). In early 2000, Murdock toured in the inspirational/gospel play, Be Careful What You Pray For with Cuba Gooding and David Peaston. Wanda Bolton-Davis is the wife of our pastor here at the St. John Church. The Illinois native and mother of three also serves as a teaching pastor and ministry director at the
church. When Rev. Wanda first moved to the Dallas area in 1983, she aided her husband in the work of the church by serving as Minister of Music, starting the Social Service Ministry and founding the Annual Women’s Retreat. This was all while working as a social worker in the field of adoption. Rev. Wanda has a heart for God and His people and possesses a strong passion for discipleship. This passion led her to write and self-publish a discipleship guide called, “Victorious Disciples.” The release of the book also served as the foundation for Victorious Disciples Ministries Inc., a discipleship, mentoring, and leadership development ministry. Victorious Disciples has been implemented in churches all across the United States, Bermuda, Africa, and beyond since its inception in 2004 Rev. Wanda holds a bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Science, a master’s degree in Social Work, a Master of Divinity degree from Truett Theological Seminary, where she was selected as their Minister of the Year in 2005, and she is currently pursuing the Doctor of Ministry degree at Talbot School of Theology. Being the First Lady of a mega church is a full job in itself, but Rev. Wanda has managed to always go beyond the call of duty, making great strides of her own within the church and beyond. She has served as Honorary Chairperson and Task Force Member for the American Heart Association, Chairperson for the Alumni Association of the School of Allied Health Sciences at U.T. Southwestern. In addition, Rev. Wanda is also on the Truett Theological Seminary Advisory Board and in August 2005, led a ministry team to Africa where they ministered to thousands and implemented Victorious Disciples in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2006, she received the Esther Award at the First Ladies Conference hosted by the Urban Alternative and Dr. Lois Evans, wife to renowned bible teacher and author, Dr. Tony Evans. While the Lord has continually opened doors for Rev. Wanda to minister, her daily prayer remains, “Lord, use me in thy service.” Stay tuned for more upcoming publications from Rev. Wanda, including a Victorious Disciples Leadership Guide and Victorious Disciples Men book, co-authored with her husband and pastor, Rev. Denny Davis. Elite News Annual MLK Parade cont now famous Rachet Movement, Bay Bay is an influential DJ whose reach and connections far surpass any of his peers. While many in the entertainment industry believe that the A&R position is no longer, Hollyhood Bay Bay wears his badge as “Street A&R” with pride. A man of the people, Bay Bay has his hand on the pulse of the masses, and a very discriminate ear when it comes to music, “I can tell in 20 seconds if a song is a hit, just by the way the crowd in my club responds to it,” he will tell you. In his capacity as “Street A&R” he is currently 3 for 3, with a key role in presenting Hurricane Chris, the GS Boyz, and most recently Dorrough, and their music, to potential fans, record labels, and now the world. So much more than just a dj and radio personality, The Street Ambassador Bay Bay, has played a major role in bringing the sound of his region, as well as the Rachet Movement to the masses. His creditability with his fans, and record labels is unlike anything ever seen before. In a time when djs are no longer breaking records and discovering new artist, but are instead competing with the would be talent for record deals, Hollywood Bay Bay is holding true to his craft. Through his company AnWhat Entertainment, he works relentlessly in his cause to help the underdog artist get the shot to succeed that they deserve. “I’m a fan of good music, period. I don’t care what part of the world it comes from. If it’s hot, and the people are feeling it, I’m with it,” he so often states. Whether spinning an unknown artist on K104 in Dallas, where he is a premier radio personality, calling the many label heads who trust him as a source for what’s hot in the south, or introducing a new song to the thousands of people who come from all over the country to experience his now famous weekly Saturday night events as he rocks the mic (where the crowd still claps and chants Aye Bay Bay when he enters the club), Bay Bay can be found daily using his many resources to serve his calling. Being a man of the people, for the people allows Bay Bay to enjoy a respect that most in his industry will only dream to attain. He can be found weekly in his hometown at KoKo Pelli’s, named the #1 night club in the country since he has become the weekly host, interacting with the people

who matter the most in the equation, the fans. He is working harder than most to leave a lasting legacy on the music industry, and to give the unknown a fair shot to realize their dreams, a blessing disguised as a mission that he doesn’t take for granted. At the end of the legislative session Representative Johnson was the sole member of the Texas Legislature that was chosen to participate in the 2011 Emerging Leaders Program by the State Legislative Leaders Foundation. He was also awarded the 2011 Achievement Award by the Public Policy and International Affairs Fellowship Program. Are we (USA) Moving Toward a 3rd World Country?
E
verything around us has all indications that we are moving very Gene Turner fast in the directions of becoming a third world country. Day by day we see things happening in this country that we have never seen before. We see all of our fast-food establishments laying off Americans and replacing them with Third World Country personnel. All of our streets that are repaired now days are repaired as if in another country. They are repaired the same way third world country construction workers repair streets in their home country. When our city and state officials give out construction contracts, we find that our officials give the most of these contracts to construction workers who migrated to this country, and more than likely they are undocumented personnel. They get these contracts because they bid lower than we do. When a street is prepared in Dallas it looks good until a rain comes along, and we see that street come apart worse than it was at first. I can name many streets that are wagon trails because of this process, but I am just going to name one (1) Sunnyvale, and from Ann Arbor to Kiest Blvd., is like driving over ditches and rocks. Our hotels, major and minor have really overdone themselves in hiring third world personnel. They have hired chef cooks and food preparers who have turned American foods into something without American taste, and when it comes to service it gets worse. Every hotel in Dallas has an influx of third world personnel that knows absolutely nothing about service. I know what I am talking about, because I am a hotel person. I started working at the Adolphus Hotel as a roomservice waiter at the age of 17 years old, and from there to Banquet waiter, Captain, front desk, and sales manager at the Dallas Grand Hotel for many years before it closed for good, because third world people purchased the hotel, and the rest is history. I was a trainer of waiters on many occasions. I have never in my life witnessed such service in hotels as today. The service was so bad in one hotel I attended, I ask one waiter to send the Matrodee to my table, and he asked me what was that. Serving the head table from the front of the table is a no-no. These things really happen in our hotels today, because of one reason and one reason only, lower wages. When we call TXU, AT&T, City Hall, or any other large company for information, or assistance, it takes
forever to understand them, and for them to understand you. Why would a large company let persons occupy this type of jobs, who cannot speak the language of this country? You can go to any other country in the world and you will not find any country that will change its standards or language requirements for anybody from another country. We try to appease or satisfy people who migrate to our shores. When we do that, you break your own rules and standards that have governed you a lifetime. A good example of that, look at our public schools, some of them are named after some person that we have never heard of, nor are they in our history books, because they are from the country they came from, plus that person just might have been against free education. You do know every country does not have free education, as we know here in America. That’s why everybody want’s to come here. If that’s not enough, we import foreign teachers to teach in our public schools who cannot speak the language clearly, nor can they teach in this culture, because it is very different from their own. How can a teacher from another culture teach a White American child, or a Black American child? Yes they can, but not properly. We have American teachers with Master Degrees who cannot get a job. And on top of all this these imported teachers receive a big bonus just to come here. This article is not written out of a prejudice standpoint, but a true fact. There is no way I could write about this from a prejudice standpoint because I am a “BLACK” person, and I do not have to go into detail with that. Now, last but not least, our country has set up bank loans for immigrants coming into this country. They can go to a bank and get a loan to set-up a business, no questions asked. We as citizens of this country have to go under the second degree just to apply for the same kind of loan, and still not get the loan. Gas stations will not hire Americans, or put Americans over, or head-up a gas station. Out of every 100 gas stations, 80 of them are headed by middle easterners. If all of these people from over there where our troops are fighting right now would ignite their gas stations at the same time, they could demolish America in a matter of minutes. Anybody who will blow themselves up. What do you think they will do to you? They have proved that several times over. “America rushing toward becoming a 3rd world country. Let us not forget to read our Bibles. May God bless you REAL GOOD and may He ever keep you in His loving care.

ome form of the word "love" exists in scripture 543 times and is, conceivably, one of the most abused, excused, and misused words in modern lingo today. I love your style. I Geraldine just loved that show. I Davidson-Hooker love the way you fix your hair! I love ice cream. Oh, I love what you've done with this room! I love you in that dress. I love it when you make me laugh. I LOVE YOU ... unless I get hurt ... just don't ask me to help ... only when my needs come first ... though not if it means listening to you ... barring when I can take credit ... when it's convenient ... if you love me ... as long as you do what I say ... but not your children ... unless you get in my way ... until I think of some good jokes at your expense ... except you put on a few pounds ... omitting when friends are around ... whenever it benefits me. Let's make love. If you love me, you'll do it. Never mind that I'm sleeping with someone else, it's you I love. You're just stupid - you know I love you. I love you, but I won't forgive you. I'm sorry for hurting you, again, but you know I love you. I told you once that I love you that ought to be enough. What do I have to say to make you believe me ... I (bleep, bleep) love you, all right? If I say I love you, then I love you. I can see others and still love you. When you measure up to my expectations, then I'll love you. Some speak most eloquent words of love. Fewer show it in their lives. But, whatever they speak, actions speak even louder. Surely, God must prefer to disassociate from situations where people misuse words that describe His character. And, wherever He isn't, it isn't love. It is impossible to love until we (know God and) begin to love others as He loves us, because God is love and it's His Spirit that loves through us (1 John 4:8, 12b-13).

R
ecorded in Matthew 6:6, is a suggestion from our Lord that gives us the time and place of prayer. He said, “When thou prayest”! (When) suggest that whenever, or what time Pastor Clarence it is when you pray, go Henderson to a secret place, or an enclosed place and pray to thy Father, who is in secret and thy Father, who seethe in secret, shall reward thee openly. The secret place is a perfect place for the sinner to meet the Savior, and a place where the broken heart can be mended; where the troubled mind can find peace. It is a place where the burdened can be lifted and the bound can be loosed. It is certain that if we follow the Lord’s suggestion, we will be better when we come out than when we went in our prayer closet.

ary McLeod Bethune Haven was founded and established by the National Council of Negro Women – Oak Cliff Section, when Mrs. Julie Walker was President. It was opened officially in 1999 for girls who were seniors in high school or college students. The Haven’s primary purpose is to assist students in their pursuit of excellence in academia and ultimately a rewarding career. The awarding of the scholarships continues Mrs. Bethune’s tradition of supporting, assisting and motivat-

The first play-off overtime under the new rules. Denver won on the first play a Leon Simon deep in, to Danarius Thomas. As the play developed and you could tell it was going to be a touchdown, I was about as happy as I could be. Not a huge Bronco fan, but a huge observer of Tim Tebows play. It was ironic that the play that won the game was a 20yd. Deep in that turned to an 80yd touchdown. That was something that most naysayer ’s said Tim couldn’t do. That pass and that victory was a victory for the likes of Marlin Briscoe, Elridge Dickey, and a ton of African American Quarterbacks that were told

ing youth and also builds upon the Haven’s tradition of promoting excellence. The scholarship recipients must be college students in good standing or high school seniors who have already been accepted to college. The latest scholarships of $500 per student were awarded at the 8 a.m. Service at Friendship West Baptist Church on January 8, 2012. Dr. Joyce Teal and Dr. Darlene Williams presented the nine recipients Certificates of Appreciation and scholarship checks. Validating our theme: Excellence is a Family Affair, for this latest scholarship presentation, scholarships and certificates were presented to two sibling groups. The first
three certificates were presented to three siblings who are all college students at Prairie View A & M University: Jordan Blair, Jr., Taylor Blair and Harrison Blair. The second sibling group, Raphael Cox, a freshman at Trinity Valley Community College; Carmellia Cox, a student at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX and Amber Alton, a junior at Tennessee State University. The three other recipients: Drinkard Timms, IV, a rising tennis star and a freshman at LeMoyne Owen, Jameterice N. Adams, and Kamren Jones, each of whom is a senior at Desoto High School.
the same things that Tebow is being told right now. Briscoe and Dickey were excellent quarterbacks that were told they couldn’t play NFL pocket type quarterback. Along with a slew of other black qb’s that had to play Wide receiver, defensive back etc. Every time Tebows win a game it’s a victory for guys like the late Eddie Robinson, and other black coaches that groomed guys to be quarterbacks only to see them get cut or have to play other positions. When I hear the negatives about Tebow’s play I think about how tough it could have been for Branch Rickey to convince Major league Baseball that Jackie Robinson could play and be a benefit to the league. A lot of the negative criticism come from black players. How soon we forget ? Knowing how hard a time he had to get where he is Tom Brady refuse to speak negatively about Tim Tebow. Brady says “ he look pretty good to him” when asked about his thought on Tebow. Cordell Steward when talking about Tebow, you would think Cordell was like Troy Aikman a stand in the pocket quarterback, the way Cordell talks about
Tim. There’s a new day coming, it cost to much to have a guy stand in one spot and throw a football. Athletes are getting too athletic to protect him. The Michael Vicks, Cam Newton, Vince Young Tony Romo, Aaron Rodger ’s Tim Tebow type can partially protect themselves with there legs. We’re getting ready to celebrate Martin Luther Kings birthday and he gave his life for all people to have the right to pursue any career they choose. Less than 40 yrs later we have African Americans telling other guy what they CAN”T do. Those are conversations we need to leave alone. Do you realize how many prototypical quarterbacks that’s available to play Golf today because they lost yesterday. Tebow made one available himself big Ben Rothlesburger. Everything changes in our world, It makes no difference how fun you great grand father was of that beautiful horse he had Henry Ford changed that. Football’s had so many metamorphoses, this is probably another one. Get off that mule Mercedes is much faster.

Nanette Lee is one of the fastest-rising, young comediennes and on-air personalities on the entertainment circuit. In her native Dallas, she rapidly garnered reputations as queen of radio and queen of the city’s comedy scene. …. Before becoming the beloved radio personality, she earned her living working as a drug store clerk and selling childrens clothing at a department store. But Lee, who had always loved comedy and radio, decided to trade her day jobs for a chance at fame. …. Nanettes career took a towering launch. Not only can the hot talent be heard on stage, but she can be heard on the radio as well. Lee is the co-host of DFW’s No. 1 morning radio show, Skip Murphy & Company. …. Over the years, Lee has received many awards, including the Improvs coveted *Funniest Female in Dallas* award in 1992. She was a finalist in the Zanies Comedy Competition Laff-Off in Nashville, and the Texas-based Funny Bones *Best of the West Competition.* …. As her reputation grew, so did the demand for her talent. Lee began opening for some of the hottest comedy acts, performing with such big-named stars as George Wallace, Sinbad and Byron Allen. She has also worked with Kim Coles, Mark Curry, David Allen Grier, Shirley Hemphill, and Marsha Warfield.
…. A natural actress, Lee has performed on stage in Straight Talk and The Night I Fell in Love. Her television credits include appearances on Dallas ABC News, Showtime at the Apollo, HBOs Def Comedy Jam, and BETs Comic View. Chris Arnold has been a media fixture in the Dallas /Ft. Worth area since 1980. But his broadcasting career actually began in 1973 in Memphis , Tennessee. At the age of 14, Chris hit the airwaves at WLOK radio and hasn’t stopped since. He continued working in radio and television while earning a Bachelors Degree in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma . After he graduated he was hired at K104 radio as sports director. He can be heard every morning as part of the “Skip Murphy And Company Show”. His remarkable 30 year stint at K104 was the longest uninterrupted weekday tenure of any radio sports figure in Texas history. Chris has also hosted his own highly rated sports talk show from 19951999 in Sports Radio 1310 “The Ticket”. Since 1996, Chris has been an integral part of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks broadcast team, serving as the Mavs courtside reporter on television and as his current role as game night emcee. In addition to his Mavericks correspondence, his television experience included working as a sports reporter at WFAA TV in Dallas . Chris’ work garnered a regional sports Emmy. Prior to WFAA, he wrote, produced, and hosted “On The Beam” a syndicated African American entertainment television show that was seen by more than 20 million households in 46 cities across the US, Japan, the Caribbean, and in 17 countries in Africa. Chris has covered every major sporting event the world has to offer: 25 Super Bowls, 21 NBA Finals, 2 Olympics, 13 Final Fours, 8 World Series, 26 Championship Boxing Title Fights, 25 NBA All Star Games, 8 Baseball All Star Games, 5 Pro Bowls, 15 College Football Bowl Games and even the World Cup. Chris is also a very popular speaker and host. He’s spoken at major corporate seminars, civic groups, schools, charities, Churches, sports banquets and more. From hosting events to providing career guidance to our youth, he truly enjoys reaching out and changing lives. father tried to make me a farmer by putting me to work seven days a week, gathering eggs ,etc... He kept him busy so he would stay out of trouble. After getting suspended from high school four times, his father sent him out into the cruel world with three pieces of advice: 1.Trust in the Lord and do good by Him, 2.Never trust whitey, and 3.See a doctor and get rid of it. Once I got rid of it, I enrolled in a trade school in Minneapolis, graduated at the bottom of my class and became a DJ. At age 18 with no discipline, I was fired from my first radio job two days before Christmas. With no money and no honey, I repeated this scenario many times over until I hit my first big break. I met the general manager of WPEG Radio in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1988, and he gave me a job on an urban morning show, hosted by Skip Murphy. Over the next 5 years, Skip Murphy taught me everything I needed to know about how to be a black man in the urban community. It’s where I learned to be black on the weekdays and white on the weekends. In 1993, KKDA hired Skip and I to replace Tom Joyner, and I met my morning team family. After 13 years of working together, I was fired yet again. I once had wealth, power and the love of many honies, and it all seemed to vanish. But there was one woman that found me irresistible, once the liquor shots kicked in. We eventually got married and had my son, “Boobie”, who I intend to shamelessly pimp out like Gary Coleman’s." Activists like Stokely Carmichael organized freedom rides, James Meredith fought to integrate blacks and whites at the University of Mississippi, and Rosa Parks instigated the Montgomery Bus Boycott. These protests were often legal and nonviolent, and made a powerful impact on civil rights in the U.S. With the help of activists like these—and many others—the country slowly worked to acknowledge the basic rights and contributions of African-Americans. Learn more about the many African-American activists who fought against the odds in order to achieve equality.

Dallas native Shuckey Duckey (real name Cecil Armstrong), a veteran of Def Comedy Jam, brings his comedic talents to the role of ringmaster of UniverSoul Circus' 2010 national tour, We Play Too ... Much!, starting Tuesday at Southwest Center Mall in Dallas. UniverSoul, founded more than 17 years ago by Cedric Walker, prides itself on delivering interactive, funky entertainment with the motto "Let Some Fun Shine In." Its goal is to get audience members singing and dancing in the aisles to pop, R&B, hip-hop and Latin tunes while providing entertainment by acrobats on trampolines and teeterboards, Chinese aerialists, stunt basketball players, contortionists and tigers. To see all these marshals, come and join Elite News and the community and bring your family out on Monday January 16. The Parade will start sharp at 10 am in South Dallas down starting point of MLK Blvd and Lamar into the State Fair grounds for a grand festival with vendors, kids zone, health zone, career fair, consessions, and entertainment by R&B, Rap, and Gospel artist like Shirley Murdock. Don't miss it.

Fun For The Whole Family
elcome to the loooong MLK weekend, baby!!!! Looking for a solid groove to kick it off? The Wu-Tang Clan rocks Dallas House of Blues tonight and Uncle Charlie Wilson set’s it off Saturday night at Winstar Casino in Oklahoma! I
am soooo looking forward to The 26th annual Elite News MLK Day and Parade at Fair Park. Festivities start at 10AM Monday on MLK Blvd. in Sunny South Dallas and will feature 200 entries such as floats, Jennifer Lopez marching bands, color guards, drill teams, clowns, vehicles, walkers and more. The festival in Fair Park’s Tower Building will feature a health fair, a gospel concert, poetry and story telling performances, a fashion show, children’s activities, vendor booths and more! The Elite News Peoples Parade is always the biggest and best, but other cities including Fort Worth, Carrolton and Plano have various celebrations..For the full scoop on all that’s going on, visit http://dallas.about.com/ and click on the MLK link! Big ups to Jay-Z and Beyonce on the birth of Blue Ivy, their 1st child! People are sooo messy...Somebody spelled the name backwards and in Latin it meant “daughter of evil”...God Bless this Child, it’s gonna be a trippy ride!!! Ya know, there’s always two sides to a story..From the J-lo/Mak Anthony saga: Jennifer Lopez has taken up with one of her dancers, a 24 yearold since the spilt with her hubby Mark. J-Lo and Mark are doing a Latin American Idol, well until Mark got ticked, caliing J-Lo “needy”, wondering on Twitter why she always had to have some man, any man...Keeping it real, Mark Anthony scooped of Jennifer Lopez after her break up with Ben Affleck, so what’s he really expect. Now the Latin American Idol may just be on Lopez and producer Simon “American Idol” Cowell! One relationship ends, another starts...Congrat’s to 45 year old Halle Berry, on her engagement to French actor Oliver
Martinez! I always wonder what’s up when you see really fine women who can’t keep a man and run from dude to dude...Everybody needs love, but I’m just sayin! The word’s out in Lashawn Brown Sithole’s Waco town! Baylor University’s Heisman Trophy Winning Quarterback, Robert Johnson III has decided to turn pro. Too bad, we just can’t claim Texas right’s and bring him to the Boyz...Look for Johnson to be a top 5 pick, gone long before one of the NFL’s worst GM’s can draft him to the silver and blue...From the “OUT OF CONTROL ZONE”: Amber Rose is forgiving Kim Kardashian, after calling her a home wrecker recently for puttin it on Kanye West! Kim’s a cutie for sure, but the Ray J video would have discouraged me! Finally, let’s keep tabs on our health, my brotha’s and sista’s...many of you know me personally from my 2 decades of DFW Radio, including fun gigs at 100.3 Jamz, K104, Joy 104.9, Magic 102, KLUV and 94.5 kSOUL...I’ve lost over 100 pounds since Fall of 2007 with diet and excercise. I ignored my borderline high blood pressure. Well, I went to Jamaica last year and while there chipped a tooth. As soon as I got back, I headed straight for the dentist, who took my pressure reading. It had blown up to 206/126 and my dentist told me I could GO like that! That frightened me enough to go to my Amber Rose doctor and get some BP meds. Now it’s under control and my last doctors visit showed that an additional 30-35 pounds and no more BP meds. We are planning a couples trip to Negril, Jamaica in July. My goal is to be down 35 by that time and BP med free. I mention this because I attended the funeral of a close friends son, my age, a couple of weeks ago. He had a stroke about a month after i got back and never recovered. It coulda been me! Visit ya doc and then take, I SAID TAKE your meds, my brotha’s and sista’s! Happy Birthday to YOU and Celebs this week: Shirley Bassey 75, Rod Stewart 66, David Bowie 64, George Foreman 63, Robert Newhouse 62 and LL Cool J is 44.
