f you didn’t have a $500.00 ticket to get in the door to see our President of the United states, President Barack Obama, then you missed it. were you watching from a distance along the route where President Obama was headed back to love field airport to get in air force One? Because i am sure the security was tight, if not i hope you watched him on tV. On tuesday, many people awaited the arrival of President Barack Obama at Eastfield College in Mesquite, texas, where the President spoke on the american Jobs act. President Barack Obama was in Dallas to raise money for the Democratic senatorial Campaign Committee. He attended Children’s laboratory school at Eastfield Community College and told hundreds of community college students in Mesquite that the time for action is now. sources say that he asked students at Eastfield College to reach out to their congressional leaders - by any means possible -

John
13:1-17
13:1It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, Henry Nelson he now showed them the full extent of his love. 2The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus. 3Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. 6He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” 7Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” 8”No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” 9”Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not just my feet but my hands and my
head as well!” 10Jesus answered, “A person who has had a bath needs only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.” 11For he knew who was going to betray him and that was why he said not everyone was clean. 12When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13”You call me `Teacher’ and `Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. Jesus had sent Peter and John to prepare for their meal together. (1) The food had been cooked. The table had been set. And I am sure the disciples thought this matter would be taken care of as well. It was not!
A
s Jesus and the disciples enter the room they see towels and water basin in the corner. they do not see a slave to wash their feet. Perhaps some of them pause as they enter the room, wondering where the servant was; maybe wondering why Peter and John had not taken care of this important detail.
as they recline at the table, each disciple feels a little uncomfortable. “somebody ought to at least wash Jesus’ feet. But if i do that, where will that put me on the social pecking order? i would be at the Bottom of the heap. if i volunteer i will get stuck with that job from now on. Maybe if i just wait somebody else will do it if you have been in church more than week, you know that kind of thinking does occur at times. John is thinking “look i am over here leaning next to Jesus, i am in spiritual intimacy. Jesus does not want me to leave and help you.” Peter is thinking “Do not these turkeys know the call of God on my life? Do not they see the leadership gifting in me? i just wish they would remember that i am the one who answered Jesus’ Question: who do you say that i am?” i got the revelation; ‘You are the Christ, the son of the living God.’ i am moving in the spirit do not disturb that. Do not you remember the prophecy Jesus gave me on that occasion? i wish these people would pay attention to what God’s doing in me. if they had, they would be over here right now washing mine and Jesus’ feet.” we do not know all the specifics, i am taking some liberties, but we do know that nobody rose to the occasion. what Jesus Did! what Jesus Knew! and what Jesus has taught us and what Jesus did.! Verses 4 and 5 say he got up took off his outer garment wrapped a towel around his waist and poured
water in the basin and “began to wash the disciples’ feet.” i think maybe a few jaws dropped when he did that. rather than begin with a lecture He gave them an example! i have learned something about ministry: People would much rather see you and me show them how than to tell them what they are doing wrong. if they can see us do it, they will listen to what we have got to say. But if we cannot do it or won’t do it they won’t pay much attention to us telling them to do it or how to do it. there was a need; everybody saw the need and it is not hard to see what is wrong. i suspect all the disciples knew something was wrong. But Jesus did something about it. Jesus met the need. He took the appropriate action! what does it mean to wash the feet of others? it means you humble yourselves you get down where the need is and you do something about it. we have so many wonderful examples of that in our culture. in our culture the need is not to wash feet as it was in Bible times. But there are many, many practical needs all around us. feet washers see those needs and do something about it. amen! is there a need you can meet? is there someone near you who needs his or her feet washed; some practical service that could make that person’s burden lighter? May the lord open your eyes to dirty feet and give you a heart to wash them. Now you know what to do with dirty feet! amen!

Prairie View A&M Wins 2011 State Fair Classic.....continued from front cover By: Bettye Katt” Williams ElitE NEws staff writEr

ast week we asked the question “who will be the big cat” when we referred to Prairie View a&M and Grambling state. well, all of Dallas now knows who that is. and the Big Cat award goes to the Prairie View a&M University Panthers. Grambling state University was once a preseason favorite in the southwestern athletic Conference, but now the Grambling state tigers find themselves in a four-game losing streak with (1-4, 1-3) who fell to Prairie View (3-2, 3-1), 31-23, on saturday night in the Cotton Bowl. During the game, i was wondering if Grambling could just leave with some swag on the field when i saw that Grambling and Prairie View were tied at 3 at halftime and 10 going into the final quarter. Prairie View a&M scored 21 fourth-quarter points behind backup quarterback Jonathan troast to pull away from Grambling state 31-23, saturday during the state fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl. troast replaced injured starter, Jerry lovelocke, after halftime with the teams locked in a 3-3 tie. with the Panthers (3-2, 3-1
southwestern athletic) trailing 10-3, troast hit Greg thurmond for a 33-yard touchdown pass to tie the game, then put Prairie View ahead for good, 17-10, with a 46-yard tD to thurmond on the first play of the fourth quarter. troast added scoring throws of 22 yards to spencer Nelson and 16 yards to Krys watkins. receiver Mario louis scored two touchdowns for Grambling state (1-4, 1-3), and Dawrence roberts added a 74-yard tD run. But at the end, the Prairie View Panthers outscored Grambling 21-13 in the final 15 minutes to take the win. People from texas and louisiana attended this game just to see who would take the reign back to their home school. there were many who came out to see the half-time battle between the bands. i am not going to say who i thought was the best band or who i put my money on, but put it this way, as i danced the wobble, performed by artist “Vic” as part of the halftime entertainment, i wobbled out of the stadium, confident of my choice. Next week, Grambling may need a break from their lost and their four-game losing streak to focus on October 15, at home against Concordia, while Prairie View will visit southern next week at 6pm.

Gov. rick Perry's presidential campaign issued a "welcome to texas" statement for Obama, suggesting that he follow the state's lessons on how to handle the economy rather than come here to tell texans what to do. "if President Obama was serious about job creation, he would use the texas model of low taxes and limited government that has created almost 40 percent of all jobs in america since June 2009," Perry spokesman Mark Miner said. "there's something surreal about a president who has lost 3.4 million private sector jobs since he took office coming to texas - which has created 40 percent of the jobs in the nation in that time - and telling us he has all the answers." Even Dallas former Mayor and fellow U.s. senate candidate tom leppert sent out a statement saying Obama doesn't know how to create jobs. "looking at the sheer dysfunction in washington, it is clear that career politicians lack the experience and courage necessary to make the tough calls to get our country back on track," leppert said. "they think by spending more tax dollars, running up massive debt, and growing the federal government, jobs will somehow magically appear. Our economy does not work that way. this is what we get when we send folks to washington whose resumes consist of nothing but big political speeches and one political or governmental job after another," he said. "speeches filled with empty rhetoric and politicians without ideas will not be enough to get the job done." My question to you is why down someone who is willing and wanting to help the nation help themselves by promoting jobs. as much as we watch tV and see our friends, family and loved ones job search each day, but end up coming home disappointed because a company or employer turned them down. a man who wants to see the nation not living on the streets as a homeless person because they can’t find work and have no means of finance to survive. wouldn’t you want to see our nation become better? i encourage you to think about what state our economy is in, and choose to see those who are jobless have a better life; wouldn’t you (republican or Democrat) want a better life for you and your family?

Advice Column: Ask Dr. Hollie
Beware of the trap
F
ish rarely chomp on a plain hook. People who fish know that hooks need bait. Bait, either artificial or live, comes in great variety: colors, flavors, sizes, and shapes. Depending on the species of fish, there is something specifically designed to trap them. Geraldine One bite in the wrong Davidson-Hooker place and they are hooked. Money is not a hook, but it is tempting bait. the Bible teaches that the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. falling into the trap of loving money too much can lead to theft, greed, deceit, dishonesty, even murder. Jesus repeatedly warned against greed and the deceitfulness of riches. in fact, the Bible warns that the love of money can choke out seeds of God’s word and cause us to wander from the faith and pierce ourselves with much grief. is money enticing you to compromise your character, your commitments, or your honesty? Beware the bait of money that appeals to foolish and harmful desires. Don’t get hooked on the world. Don’t let money become an idol. remember, you brought nothing into this world, and you can take nothing out of it.

ur church school lesson was “an ordered life” Prov. 29:1627. Our present society live a life based on what they feel at any Eld Lloyd T. Morgan given time, but God has ordained that we live Holy lives based upon the revealed word of God. solomon taught us that “when the wicked are in power sin increases. Discipline a child and they will give you happiness and peace of mind, if you assist a thief you are hurting yourself, and fearing people is a dangerous trap.” the morning message was delivered by Pastor lloyd Morgan from the subject “God’s perfect timing” rom.5:6-10. the apostle, having pointed out the glorious state of the believing Gentiles, takes time to contrast this with their former condition; and the means by which they were redeemed from it. their former condition he points out in four par-
ticulars; which may be applied to people in general: in our fall from God, our first clear state is, that we are without strength; have lost our principle of spiritual power, by having lost the image of God, righteousness and true holiness, in which we were created. we are ungodly, having lost our strength to do good; we have also lost all power to worship God properly. the mind which was made for God is no longer His residence. we are sinners; feeling that we have lost our center of rest, and our happiness, we go about seeking rest, but find none: what we have lost in losing God, we seek in earthly things; and therefore we are continually missing the mark, and multiplying transgressions against our Maker. But, when we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. we sometimes feel that God takes too long to answer our prayers but his timing is impeccable, he is never too early or too late. Be blessed. Deuteronomy 5:7 You shall have no other gods before me.

e pray to God in the name of Jesus because God is the central in prayer. the more he means to us the more prayer will mean to us, for prayer is the response of our hearts to Him. why do we reach out Pastor Clarence Henderson to Him? well, we reach out to Him for His love and understanding. we seek Him also for His protection. the Psalmist in Psalms number 17 needed God because of the wicked that opposed him, his deadly enemies who encompassed him. His enemies were like our enemies, tremendously real and dangerous. But there is no enemy that can touch us when we are under the shadow of His wings. “if God be for us, who can be against us? Greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world.” Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

id the Cowboys lost against the lions make you think this ship is sinking at an alarming rate? i don’t think this team is headed to the super Bowl, but i also don’t think it’s time to jump off any tall struc-
tures. i think these teams are more evenly matched than we realize. New England looked like they were just waiting for the season to be over, because they already had reservation to the super Bowl game. then they take a whipping from Buffalo. the Philadelphia Eagle tried to sign every Probowler they could in the off season. Vince Young even called them the “dream team.” they’d better stop dreaming and win some games are some heads could roll

in Philly. the Pittsburgh steelers took a good whipping at the hands of the Baltimore ravens the first game of the season. Most people thought that to be an aberration, until they took it on the chin from the Houston texans. i thought the steelers played above themselves last year. i thought that trip they made to the super-Bowl last year was done with Mirrors. it was always known that the Colt’s was the Peyton Manning show. But did anyone know that with out him, they could be the team that replace texas a&M in the big 12. this season has been such a confusion as to what teams are contenders and which are pretenders. Please in judging these teams don’t take any previous record are seasons in consideration. the last few years every season their has been at least 5 new teams make the play offs. that means there’s 5 teams that will not make the play offs. its way to early to pick those 10 teams. last year Green Bay just did squeeze into the play offs, the raider’s swept their division and didn’t make the playoffs.

i’m not saying that Dallas could be this years Green Bay. But stranger things have happened. the Packers when through the 2010 season with a great portion of their roster injured. the Boyz are going through that injury thing right now. the first 3 quarters of sundays game, i thought i was watching the 1993 Cowboys. On offense and defense. then in a matter of minutes it seems like two totally different teams showed up not just Dallas, but Detroit picked up a new personality. this new found parity in sports is not restricted to football, if the NBa ever play again they will be even harder to predict. if they don’t play next year will that mean the Dallas Mavericks will be Champion two years in a row , just a thought. if the Cowboys make a few mental adjustments they will be a contender. Barring some catastrophic injuries, i think this will be an interesting season. where it leads who knows, how many of you had the Mavericks in the Championship game let alone NBa champion.

On ‘Niggerhead’: Rick Perry’s Racist Camp Name Is Surprisingly Common Special to Elite News
http://www.good.is/post/on-niggerhead-rick-perry-sracist-camp-name-is-not-uncommon/
T
he political world is still abuzz at this weekend’s latest rick Perry revelation: the GOP presidential candidate and texas governor has hosted friends and allies at his family’s west texas hunting camp, charmingly named “Niggerhead.” the only black republican presidential candidate, Herman Cain, called the camp’s name “insensitive,” a summation for which he was promptly chastised by conservatives who said he “played the race card.” for his part, Perry argues that his family never named the camp, but only leased it from people who did. what’s more, Perry says he made an effort to get rid of the name by painting over Niggerhead signs dotting the camp’s many acres. whether you believe Perry actually took issue with the camp’s name or not, you have to question the wisdom of a politician leasing something called Niggerhead in the first place. if you aren’t even a little bit racist, and you’re searching for a place to host your friends and family, do you choose the place with the racial slur featured prominently in its name? But that said, it’s worth noting how prevalent the name Niggerhead has been in american history to lend a bit of context to the Perry drama.
as the photo above shows, “nigger head” was a term used in many consumer products in early america. Besides stove polish, there were nigger head oysters and nigger head soap. this website of slang terms used amongst rescue divers defines “niggerhead” as “slang for an isolated coral head, or any knob-like solitary protrusion, often semisubmerged, that’s a hazard to navigation.” the book Practical Guide to Natural Medicines notes that echinacea, a homeopathic favorite, is sometimes called niggerhead. Beyond all of that, there’s this, from the washington Post piece that broke the Niggerhead story: “the name ‘Niggerhead’ has a long and wide history. it was once applied to products such as soap and chewing tobacco, but most often to geographic features such as hills and rocks.” though blessedly not used with frequency anymore, like it or not, “niggerhead” was once commonplace in the United states. that doesn’t totally excuse Perry, but it does provide perspective on an increasingly bizarre political skirmish: Perry, who was born in 1950, was raised in a time and place in the world in which calling things “niggerhead” was normal. Understanding that as his status quo, it then makes sense that Perry didn’t turn tail and run from renting a place called Niggerhead, but instead painted over a few of the signs. to him, the camp’s name was politically precarious, perhaps, but not anything to be reviled or rejected.
this says two things, neither of which is “rick Perry is an unforgivable racist”: america is a place with a deeply racist history, one that’s seeped into our lexicon so much that even mostly benign things like echinacea and hunting camps can have horrifically racist name associations. and rick Perry is a normal guy who was steeped in racism from a young age and has since come to believe that the term “niggerhead” is at least somewhat acceptable. Both of those things are unshakeable facts. the question now is whether a normal guy like Perry should be leading the United states of america.

hether or not you are a Dallas Cowboy fan, i am sure you were watching, and maybe cheering, for them just knowing the Cowboys had it in the bag until….tony romo!!! i’m sure that is what the Dallas Cowboys screamed, with an unbelievable look on their faces, when tony romo passed the football to a Detroit lion.
Does romo know he is on the Dallas Cowboys’ team? Not one Dallas Cowboy was near Bobby Carpenter, of the Detroit lions, as tony threw the ball right into his hands. as a fan, you had to just let that marinate for a minute. all you could do is shake your head. tony romo played a great first half as he pushed Dallas to a 20-3 lead that swelled to 27-3 after the Cowboys took the second-half kickoff and drove for a touchdown. the Cowboys’ run blocking was better, considering they averaged 4.2
Tony Romo takes a sack
Page 9
yards per carry sunday after entering the game at 3.2 yards a carry. felix Jones led the Cowboys with 57 yards rushing on 16 carries and tashard Choice had his best game yet with 39 rushing yards on six carries. then there was the worst of romo. He threw three second-half interceptions (two were absolutely awful decisions) providing the catalyst for Detroit’s comeback, and Detroit felt they could win after that turn over. the lions closed to 30-27 on a 51-yard field goal by Jason Hanson with 4:22 left, which gave romo plenty of time to make one more bad decision. He finished with 331 yards passing, three interceptions and three touchdowns to end with Detroit 34, Dallas 30. so was it romo’s poor decision-making or was it just bad luck for tony romo and the Cowboys? when Jerry Jones was asked if it’s possible to take the turnovers out of romo’s game, he said, “well, you don’t, in terms of that. Because if you’re going to try to make the plays, then you’ve got a chance to have some bad plays. However we go, we’ll go with tony. as tony goes, we’ll go.” “He knows that i believe in him, our staff believes in him. His teammates believe in him,” said head Coach of Dallas Cowboys, Jason Garrett.
www.dfwelitenews.com
“i’m not taking anything away from them, they made a play when they had to,” romo said. “i shouldn’t have allowed them to have that chance.” Now, he can add the worst overall collapse in franchise history to his resume after the Cowboys figured out a way to blow a 24-point, third-quarter lead. Many of the fans’ reactions were “we will never win with him as our quarterback.” But i want to know how long will the Dallas Cowboys’ fans believe in him and keep standing behind him?

fl has super Bowl’s, NBa’s have Playoff, NBl has the world series, so if you are not in either of those, why not watch some of the best friday night neighborhood High school football games such as the one that was played this past friday night with rivalry teams like the sOC Bears and the Kimball Knights. But in every game, weather it is professional sports or High school, there has to be a winner and a loser. so the winner between two teams that has been big winners on last week that were undefeated in district play is….south Oak Cliff High school who defeted Kimball 29-26. last year, Kimball beat sOC, but what special weapon(player) will they have this year since their special teams player austin franklin went to New Mexico st. University. Kimball and sOC are used to tight competition even sharing the 11-4a title last year but neither school has been able to win in consecutive years during their last six times they have played against each other. south Oak Cliff and Kimball traded leads eight times friday night before sOC won 29-26 victory. the community and neighborhood’s came together to witness the two great rivalry teams in a crowd of almost 7,000 at sprague stadium, giving sOC the lead in District 11-4a.
with players like sOC player Paul franklin who caught the pass from quarterback Jevone Valentine for 15 yards, sOC sophomore Kemonte tompkins who also caught a 25-yard pass and Valentine ended with 149 yards rushing and 218 yards passing, sOC knew they had the game in the bag. Kimball kept its hopes alive with running back teriyon Gipson rushing for 132 yards and two touchdowns, Prentavious Moorehead catching seven passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns, Quarterback Jaalen adkins, passed for 216 yards before his injuries. with Kimball still keeping hope alive, they took its last lead to make it

26-21 with 10 minutes to go but Kimball didn’t hit the two-point conversion pass. Kimball had lost possession with a fumble while trying to run out the first-half clock. sOC nearly made it a very costly turnover. with the support from the neighborhood and the community, sOC scored the winning points when senior running back Paul franklin scored from 3 yards out with 2:32 remaining, capping a 45-yard drive.
