James 5:13-18 ”Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him henry Nelson with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.”

S

tatistics on the number of people who pray in America say; an overwhelming majority of Americans believe in prayer and believe that God answers prayer. 54% said they pray every day, 29% said they pray several times a

day. There are some very important truths about prayer that James mentions that I want to point out. The first one is this, It’s always a good time to pray. Look at what he says in verses 13-14. Are you in trouble? You should pray. Are things going great in your life? Sing songs of praise to the Lord. He tells how a fly was looking up at a praying mantis, “What are you doing” said the fly. “I am praying,” said the mantis. “Do not be stupid, insects do not pray.” The fly told it. And at that, the Mantis swooped down and grabbed the fly in its claws, and straight away the fly began “Our Father, who art in heaven”. Sometimes we think the only time we are supposed to pray is when we are in trouble or we need some major help. It is always a good time to pray. We can pray about anything and everything. As a matter of fact Paul says in Ephesians 6:18, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” So, if it’s always a good time to pray, what do you say we give it a try right now? If you are in some kind of predicament, trouble or sorrow I want you to ask God to help you right now. If everything is going well for you and you have had a blessed day I want to invite you

just to say or sing a quick song of praise to him on the count of three. You just did what God wants you to do! It’s important to understand that this is supposed to be a consistent part of our everyday lives! W. Graham Scroggie once said, "Pray when you feel like it, pray when you don’t feel like it, pray until you do feel like it." Amen! But let’s be honest. There are times in life when we get sick. Getting sick is just not fun at all. I know that when I have had the flu the only thing I am concerned about is my fever breaking and trying not to get sick. It is hard for me to concentrate on something else. That is why we should never be ashamed to ask other people to pray for us. In verse 14 the sick person called the elders of the church to come and pray for him/her. At many churches people take prayer very seriously. They love praying for people. They do not mind at all that you call them or put on the guest card that you need some prayer. They invite you to do that. Amen! They take prayer seriously. I hope and pray you take prayer seriously in your own personal life because of the very same reason that is mentioned in James 5:14-15. “And the prayer offered in faith will make

the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.” Amen! God not only hears, but he answers. Our God cares about his people so he is going to rescue them, but the way he is going to rescue them is by sending Moses to do it. Well, this isn’t what Moses had in mind at all. He was quite happy tending Jethro’s sheep. Like many of us, when God’s call came, he was not sure he wanted to hear it. And the sorts of things he comes up with as objections to doing what God says are the same sorts of things that often stop us. Let us have a look at them, and at the way God answers each of his objections. Moses has spent the last 40 years or so working as a shepherd, and shepherds were not particularly high on the social ladder in the Middle East at the time. He knew what life was like in the Pharaoh’s palace and he knew very well that his chosen trade would not go down well when he was presented to the King. Prepare cake mix according to package directions, adding green or orange food coloring to batter, if desired. Bake according to package directions. Remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks. Trim tops of cakes as necessary to make an even thickness. Cut a 5 inch circle, a 3 1/2 inch circle, a 2 1/2 inch circle and a 2 inch circle from the square cake layer. Stuff some of the cake scraps into the ice cream cone to fill. Place a small amount of frosting in the middle of a cake plate. Chief David Brown Shown Disrespect by Morning News Reporter By: Jordan Blair Elite news Publisher

H

ypothetically speaking, what if you were at work and an outside visitor strolled through, noticed you, and decided he/she didn’t like the way you performed your job duties – then proceeded to tell you so by calling you a name that was not your given name. How would you react to that situation? A similar incident happened to Chief David Brown even though he was not present when profane names were hurdled at him. Dallas Morning news reporter, Tanya Eiserer, who normally works the police beat, got upset when she was not able to get a one-on-one interview with Chief David Brown and proceeded to make ungodly comments about him. It is reported that she directed words at Chief Brown like “cocksucker” and “asshole.” The Dallas Black Police Association took offense to Eiserer’s comments and they very well should have. What happened that day speaks volumes about Eiserer’s lack of professionalism and character. This type behavior should not be tolerated by the Police Chief or the Dallas Morning news. If no action has been taken concerning Ms. Eiserer, the Dallas Morning news sends a strong message to the reading public. Reporters seem to be making their own news these days, and incorporating their own feelings into how they report the news, instead of simply reporting the news and remaining neutral. Is this a new trend? This is a very dangerous precedence. Even though the Dallas Morning news and the Dallas Black Police Association perceives Eiserer’s actions differently, they both agree that Eiserer used the words “cocksucker” and “asshole” outside of Chief Brown’s office after being denied what she thought was to be an exclusive interview. The Morning news said Eiserer used profanity out of frustration and not directly at anyone in particular. The BPA said she was swearing toward Chief Brown, and others in the office agree. “Ms. Eiserer’s antics are symptomatic of a pernicious spirit troubling the soul of America,” the BPA writes in a press release. “Black leadership in America is under disproportionate scrutiny and assault by neo-conservatives, state righters, and uncouth birthers. The Black Police Association of Greater Dallas, Incorporated will not tolerate the local media aiding and abetting these assaults. The Black Police Association of Greater Dallas understands that this event is a carryover of the general disrespect for Black leadership in the Dallas Police Department by union officials — both Anglo and those with dual consciousness.” The BPA is calling for Eiserer to be fired. They also want “mandatory and documented anti-racism training” for all news reporters, executives and staff, and for Dallas’s Only Daily to hire “representative numbers” of black, Asian and Hispanic reporters. It also called for the firing or discipline of any police personnel who knew about the event and “failed to act appropriately,” and for the discipline of Glenn White, president of the Dallas Police Association, “for his public statements that fueled discord within the ranks of the Dallas Police Department.” Preston Gilstrap, president of the BPA, tells Unfair Park that Eiserer

Dr. William M. Campbell

Just like we protect our water supply we ought to protect our supply of godliness.

Just How Magnificent Is Our God?

A

ll the things God have Gene Turner made, and the way He made them is mind-boggling. We as humans never really stop and think just how magnificent our God really is. God made the universe is such a way that man can never claim helping or altering God’s creation. God made the universe so huge that man gets bogged down just thinking about it. Just how big is our God? How big is our universe? As we read let us visualize just how big or how vast God’s thinking really is. Our universe is so huge that it takes a beam of light (which travels 700 million miles per hour) over 100,000 years just to cover the distant length of our galaxy called the Milky Way. now watch this – but our galaxy is only one among many billions in the known universe, let’s use the thickness of a business card to represent the distance from the earth to the sun (93 million miles). If we used these business cards to measure the distance to the nearest star, we would need a stack of business cards 71 feet high. To cover the diameter of our Milky Way galaxy, we would need a stack of cards 310 miles high. To reach the edge of the known Universe, we would need a stack of business cards 31 million miles high. If the sun was hollow, one million three thousand earths could fit inside. A star call Antares (if hollow) could hold sixty four million of our suns. In the constellation of Hercules there is a star which could contain 100 million of Antares. The largest known star, which is called the Epsilon Star, could easily swallow up several million stars the size of the one in Hercules. The Epsilon Star if hollow could hold 27 billion suns.

We are making a weak attempt to illustrate the magnitude of our universe, which contains as many Stars as there are grains of sand on all the seashores of the world. Furthermore, in Psalm 147:4 and Isa. 40:26, we are told that God has both numbered and named each star. “He calleth them all by their names”. Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number; He calleth them all names by the greatness of his might, for that He is strong in power; not one faileth. Isa. 40:26. But more glorious than all this is the statement that this same omnipotent and omniscient God “ healeth the broken in heart and buildeth up their wounds (Ps. 147:3). A God, who is able to make or create such a vast world, would take time to heal our broken hearts, even after we have been at our worst. We serve a mighty God. And church folk, Christian’s, people of the household of faith have the gall to be stingy with God. As Laymen we should never be stingy with God about our money, our time, and our special skills. These are things, which God has already given. Laymen should never give it a second thought about material things given to God for the upbuilding of God’s kingdom here on earth. If the laymen of Texas plan to grow or go on to Spiritual growth we have got to get away from just Sunday morning service, a dollar in the offering, and five dollars in tithes. We need to make all services, witness in the marketplace, and fellowship with all brethren everywhere. God showed us by His creation how He thinks, God thinks huge, and He also thinks small. God can afford to think both ways if He wishes to do so, but we are not God and it’s hard for us to think in both directions at the same time, so let’s think Big. Let us not forget to read our Bibles. May God bless you REAL GOOD and may He ever keep you in His loving care.

Advice Column: Ask Dr. Hollie

Strength By Hardship

T

hose who have placed their complete faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin have begun a journey which leads to the kingdom of God. Once we truly begin this journey, we are His child and our place with God has been reserved; "He anointed us, set His Geraldine seal of ownership on Davidson-hooker us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come" (2 Corinthians 1:21-22). Every step is for the purpose of drawing us closer and conforming us to the image of Christ. And hardship is the tool which seems to best accomplish this goal. We all might prefer that God would shape us through praise and blessings, but we seem to respond best to hardship. Its hardship which reminds us of our dependence on God when we've begun to trust in our own abilities and understanding. It's hardship which brings us back to our knees in prayer after long seasons of silence. It's hardship which develops the character of a mature believer: "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything" (James 1:2-4). As difficult as this truth may be to accept and understand, part of God's plan is for us to experience some hardship. not all hardship can be said to come from God, but in our lost and fallen world where we come to God filled with pride and arrogance, hardship is often the only way to humble our spirit and soften our heart. Our Heavenly Father loves us enough to do whatever it takes to draw us closer to His side - even when this means being strengthened by hardship.

ur Church School lesson was “Wisdom for a g i n g ” Ecclesiastes 11:912:1-7,13. Solomon once again makes a close observation eld Lloyd T. Morgan of life and the transition from youth to old age. He encourages young people to enjoy every minute of their youth, do everything you want to do. But remember that one day they must give an account to God for all that they do. The scriptures must be their guide throughout their lives. Many times those senior members of a church want to deprive the youth of their youthfulness and act like older people, but if our churches are to thrive and be healthy churches they must find a way to channel the energy of its youth so as to benefit the kingdom and the future of the church. The lesson points out all of the things that happen to us as we age and concludes that To fear God and obey

his commandments, is the whole duty of man.Our Sunday morning sermon was delivered by Pastor L.T.Morgan from the subject “Are you a thankful worshipper” from Ps.100. Thanksgiving is that aspect of praise that gives thanks to God for what He does for us. Ideally, thanksgiving should spring from a grateful heart; but it is required of all believers, regardless of their initial attitude (1 Thess 5:18) In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. There is an obligation, a duty and privilege of thanksgiving. There is not only "the showing forth the praises of God with our lips, but in our hearts and lives"; this latter is the real practical offering and sacrifice, of which the former should be the inspired utterance and expression. Our outward worship must be verified and substantiated by inward truth; and this can only be done as we serve God in spirit, principle, life, action, and thus with the whole man show forth His praise. Be a thankful worshipper! Blessed! Deuteronomy 5:7 You shall have no other gods before me.

n March I went out on a limb and said that the Dallas Mavericks would play in the last game of the season. I said that their chances of winning the last Leon Simon game of the season would be better than a chance that the Texas Rangers would had to win the last game of the previous Baseball season. That’s no longer true. The Ranger’s will play in the last game of the baseball season. Their chance of winning should be as great as that of the Mavericks, if not greater. The Maverick’s might have been the sentimental favorite, but the Las Vegas odds maker did not smile on them. If they end up having a basketball season this year, the Maverick still won’t be favorite this year either. But we all know they are the defending Champions.

Roger B. Brown Sports Talk Show

Going into the play offs, the Ranger’s was a contender but was never a favorite to upset ever body’s favorite “The Yankees or the Red Sox. “ Through a process of elimination, the Yankees and Red Sox are at home as well as the national league favorite Philadelphia Philly’s Both the Yankee’s and the Philadelphia Philly’s had heavy paroles, which proves once again you cannot buy a championship easily. I’m not naïve enough to think that it can’t be done. I’m saying it takes more than money. If indeed the Ranger’s pull this off it would put the Metroplex in an elite class. I think there are 9 cities that have 4 major sports franchises. If the Ranger’s win they would join new York, Boston, and Chicago in having won a Championship in each or the four major sports. The Ironic thing about this year is that there are two other cities in contention for their four major wins. The Philadelphia Eagles winning a Super-Bowl would put Philadelphia in a class like the Super-Bowl wining. The Lion’s would put Detroit in that class. If there was a race with a position title like the Super-Bowl, the Ranger’s

are a 7game series from a possible title like that. Philly and Detroit cannot win until football season is over. The Ranger’s will probably be favorite to win the World Series, if not they should at least be even money. The Ranger’s are one if not the highest scoring team in the American League. Their opponent, the St Louis Cardinals are the one of if not the highest scoring teams in the national League. Their pitching staffs are comparable. The starters could favor the Cardinals with the bull pen favor the Rangers. Home field advantage goes to the Cardinals. The national league won the all-star game, thus giving the national League the home field. The Ranger’s and the Maverick at one time had a running battle on which team was the worst professional team in the country. You could always count on the Ranger’s having big bats, no pitching, and bad defense. The Ranger’s new Management Team led by Hall of Famer nolan Ryan, is doing a great job. Manager Ron Washington has his own way of getting along with his players, but he gets it done.

id you watch the exciting game that put the Dallas Fort Worth area back on the map Monday night? How many professional teams can you add up or say that got a chance to go to the playoffs to enter the Super Bowl, nBA Championship or World Series? The Dallas Fort Worth area can say we know and have a professional team who has……The Texas Rangers The Texas Rangers are headed back to the World Series for the second straight year after beating the Detroit Tigers in the American League Championship Series. The Texas Rangers may have lost the World Series in 2010 to the San Francisco Giants but they never gave up on being in the World Series again, so now they will be back in the playoffs and will go to the Busch Stadium to meet the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 1 this week. Michael Young, who was .118 in the postseason before Game 6 of the American League Championship Series, was one man to prove his quality as he went up to .250 in the series with a 3-for-6 hitting knock. He drove in five runs and scored two, one from a special home run in that game against the Detroit Tigers. “nothing is going to take us by surprise,” Young said. “We’ve got make sure out attention is completely what happens between the lines. Experience can only be a good thing.” David Murphy is currently on .391 in hitting and he has slugging rate of .565 in the postseason. He has scored

four runs and drove in three runs. His On-base Percentage is at a gratifying .481. Ranger’s manager Ron Washington said Monday. “We’ve got to rely on our scouts, rely on our sight when we see them, and our gut. ... That’s a great way to play baseball.” The Rangers will open their second consecutive World Series when they play a game in St. Louis for the first time. Game 1 is Wednesday night when C.J. Wilson is the scheduled Texas starter. But since winning his playoff debut in Game 2 of the 2010 AL division series against Tampa Bay, free agent-to-be Wilson is 0-4 with a 6.42 ERA his last six postseason starts. “He’s my no. 1 guy, my feelings haven’t changed,” Washington said. “We expect C.J. to step up and we really believe he will. ... What I expect to see out of C.J. is for him to go out there and keep the ball for seven, eight innings and have us to just turn it over to the bullpen late.” Washington said the Rangers will use the same four starters in the World Series that they have these playoffs. But he only confirmed Wilson as the Game 1 starter and wouldn’t say in what order Colby Lewis, Derek Holland and Matt Harrison would pitch after that. “Mentally, we’re better prepared. This point from last year, we’re in a better place,” shortstop Elvis Andrus said. Some people were not the favorites of the Texas Range’s this year because of last year’s lost and them not winning the World Series but they are playing for the World Series

reek fraternities and sororities are about acceptance and ritual For many young people college is their first taste of independence and involves new opportunities and challenges. They wish to join up so that they have an instant group of friends and be accepted — it is about being a part of something bigger than themselves. At its best it fosters friendship, leadership and community service. At its worst it encourages intelligent young men and young women to succumb to inhumane treatment and allows others to justify their bad and dangerous requests due to alcohol impairment or tradition. Although hazing is forbidden and their are laws against it in many states, it still exists on many college campuses under the guise of pledging and tradition. Pledging is suppose to be about learning the information necessary to become a full member of a fraternity or sorority, in many cases it is an excuse for demeaning activities that cause psychological harm, physical danger and in some cases even death. And, OnE DEATH IS TOO MAnY. Donnie G Wade II grew up in Dallas , Texas , he accepted Christ at an early age and became a devoted member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship and graduated from High School. He was a young man with a

page 9

dream! Donnie knew early on he wanted to be a doctor and he worked diligently to pursue that goal. He began his studies at Stephen F. Austin then transferred to Prairie View A&M to pursue a degree in biology, focusing on pre-medicine. In a college program opportunity with Senator Royce West he participated in an Internship at UT Southwest Medical Center to gain hands-on experience. He also wanted to belong and serve the community through the connection of brotherhood. Tragically he died in a fraternity pledge hazing incident in 2009. Today his family and friends have a dream. A dream to erase hazing from school campuses, to encourage academic excellence while warning young people about any potential dangers and keeping other families from suffering a similar devastating loss. It is long past time to change the practices of this ritual system that continues to foster hazing. College campuses need to be completely free of personal harassment, degradation and disrespect. Universities and student leaders on campuses and in Greek organizations need to develop better ways to bring students together socially. Young people need to be made aware of the inherent dangers and learn to say nO and walk away when they encounter an uncomfortable situation. Parents and grand parents need to talk with their children and grand children about these positive but also potentially dangerous activities. Don’t wait, talk with your children today.

again so as Ron Washington and the team stated “nobody’s taking anything for granted”, so why not get on the Texas Rangers band wagon and cheer and support them for the next four games to win, that’s what’s important. Rangers complete 9th inning come back to tie the world series 1-1 and they should win it in 6 after losing the first game 3-2. I still say since the Dallas Mavericks won the nBA Championship, my prediction is that the Texas Rangers at 6 is going to win the World Series, what do you think? Go Rangers

Celebrating 90 years of Life and History with William Blair By: Bettye “Katt” Williams ELITE nEWS STAFF WRITER

I

f you didn’t get a chance to ever meet William Blair, I can tell you from first hand, you missed a great man to know in life. William Blair has been blessed to live to see 90 years old. now we all know that is a blessing in its self to be able to say you lived that long and saw life as Mr. Blair has seen life. On Monday many of William Blair’s friends, family, associates, and some who just wanted to be in the company of a man who is known as ”Papa Blair” the Living Legend came out to Mr. Blair’s traditional lunch spot “Lubys” where he has celebrated his birthday there for the past 10 years. Some of those who attended Mr. Blair’s celebration was Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, Eric Moye, Actress Mrs. Irma P Hall of “soul Food”, Judge Cleo Steel and family, Dallas County School board Member Maricela Moore, Judge Rosenfield, Judge Valencia nash, Judge Gracie Lewis, Constable Derek Evans, Dallas Park Board Members C.W.

Whitaker and Kevin Moore, wife-Mrs. Mozell Blair and sons, Darryl and Jordan Blair and many, more friends and family that I did not mention but appreciate that were there. Many who attended the celebration enjoyed not only having lunch with Mr. Blair but entertainment by Vincent’s School of Music, KKDA Bobby Patterson, and Annette Cullors. Kind words of congratulations were given by many of Mr. Blair’s friends and associates who knew Mr. Blair. We all know people who did not make it to see 10, 30, 60 or 90 years old and we know many people who did live to see 90 or more years. But I personally am glad I got a chance to see and meet a great man who have taught me about black history of Dallas and given me an inspiration to be better than I am. not only is Mr. Blair my mentor, but he is like the father you never had. Elite news and the Blair family would like to thank each of you who came out to celebrate Mr. Blair’s 90th birthday and we wish Mr. Blair a Happy Birthday and many, many more to come.

( We d n e s d a y / H i g h noon), the 1st game of the World Series had not been played! Vegas odds makers had the Rangers a Soulja Boy heavy favorite! For instance, to win 100.00 dollars you'd have to bet 155.00 on the Rangers...Vice versa, if you bet on the St. Louis Cardinal's, you'd bet 100 to win 100! Today(10/21 Fri.)is a travel day, as the 1st two games have been played in St.Louis...The next 3 Sat., Sun. and Monday are at the Ballpark In Arlington! Say you want to go to the game...Get your money ready, lol...General parking pass $111.00... Standing room only tix, 458.00...Cheapest seat, 702.00...Most expensive seat 9,999.00...Goooooo Rangers! Hats off to actress nia Long. nia is 40, fine and preggers on the cover the november Ebony Magazine. In the cover story, nia says a doctors visit left little hope of having another child with boyfriend Ime Udoka, leaving Faith as her only alternative! Long says, "I honestly asked God for this"...Big ups to TI for quashing the drama coming from P.Diddy at a BET HIP HOP Awards after party they were throwing. Diddy was ticked when he saw someone drinking a different Vodka than the one he sponsors and started screaming and wilding out..."T.I." respectfully broke it down....Peep the the party, peep the drama...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v

See he next story...Rapper Soulja Boy is apologizing to his fan base after he was released on bail following his arrest in Georgia on Tuesday. The 21-year-old – real name DeAndre Cortez Way – was held on suspicion of drug possession after cops stopped and searched the car he was travelling in. The officers allegedly found marijuana, cash and a number of guns inside the vehicle. The artist was taken to Caroll County Jail along with four other men and they were all booked for marijuana possession and a gun charge, according to TMZ. They were later released after posting bail. Why fake it and hang with thugs, if you are not??? Too bad the hottest Urban film in a while's not opening in the DFW this weekend! "Joy Road" featuring Wood Harris, nbushe Wright, Obba Babatunde and a serious cast opens in select theaters in Atlanta, Chicago, Philly, D.C., and of course Detroit where it was shot! Moammar Gadhafi Dead Is the World a Safer Place? By: Jordan Blair ELITE nEWS PUBLISHER

W

hat seems to be a trend in the Middle Eastern countries, people have finally realized that they no longer have to put up with the dictator style of leadership from leaders who have been in power for decades and are being removed by protestors and opposition activists. The pot is stirring in Syria and Yemen as this trend continues to spread throughout the Middle East. For four decades Moammar Gadhafi has ruled in Libya. Today in Libya, he was on the run like a common fugitive and killed by opposition forces. Many celebrated news of the death of Gadhafi by honking their horns and with celebratory gunfire. Gadhafi's death puts an end to the career of the strongman who came

to power in a bloodless coup against King Idris in 1969. With Moammar Gadhafi dead, will it take years for the country's oil production to return to full capacity? Analysts believe it could possibly take years. It's thought that Libya is producing about 350,000 barrels of oil per day, up from near zero during the depths of the conflict earlier this year. Will democratic elections be held? Who will be the new emerging leader in Libya? What timeline or control will President Obama and his administration help enforce to help Libya move forward? Caution should be taken by all parties involved to move very carefully with this situation because it would be a travesty to get rid o f one dictator and have another one of the same nature to take its place.
