And so I discovered that it is not on our forgiveness any more than on our goodness that this worlds healing hinges, but on His. When He tells us to love our enemies, He gives, along with the command, the love itself." One of the scariest parts of the Lord’s Prayer is Matthew 6:12 & 14 & 15, Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. & 14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. If you have ever prayed this have you ever stopped to listen to what you are saying? You are asking God to forgive you in exactly the same way that you forgive people who have done you wrong, no more no less. Enchilada Meat Loft Ingredients

1 egg, lightly beaten 1 medium onion, finely chopped 1/4 cup bottled salsa 2 Tbsp. chili powder 3 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 tsp. salt 1 lb. ground beef 1 8.5 oz. pkg. corn muffin mix 2 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, sliced Bottled salsa (optional)

Directions Preheat oven to 350F. In a large mixing bowl combine egg, onion, 1/4 cup salsa, the chili powder, garlic, and salt; add ground beef and mix well. Shape into a ball and place in a 9-inch pie plate. Flatten meat mixture to a 6-inch circle; set aside. Prepare corn muffin mix according to package directions. Spread corn muffin batter over meat mixture in pie plate. Bake about 50 minutes or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the meat loaf

One Strike Away - Cardinals Spoiled Rangers Chance to Win in 6, in the Bottom of the 11th By: Jordan Blair

he year was 1961 when the then Washington Senators were playing in the nation’s capital. In 1971, the team moved to Arlington, Texas and debuted as the Texas Rangers. The Rangers have toiled in futility for 39 years. Last year for the first time the Rangers went to the finals only to lose in the fifth game to the San Francisco Giants. Five years ago, the Rangers made a smart move. They hired Ron Washington as the manager. Prior to Ron Washington, they have had some high powered managers, but none were able to move the Rangers forward. Ron Washington brought a whole new strategy and way of playing baseball. In some circles it’s called small ball, but here in Texas most fans that you talk to will call it winning baseball. The Rangers have a very powerful lineup and a strong bullpen, but against the St. Louis Cardinals with a storied history of winning pennants the Ranger’s should have been able to close it out in six, but it’s been a back and forth battle between the bullpens.

Freese hit a two-run triple just over a leaping nelson Cruz to tie the score 7-7 in the ninth inning against neftali Feliz. Then, after Josh Hamilton put Texas ahead with a two-run homer in the 10th off Jason Motte, Ryan Theriot hit an RBI groundout in the bottom half and Lance Berkman tied it 9-9 with a single. Texas had built a 7-4 lead in the seventh when Adrian Beltre and nelson Cruz hit consecutive home runs off Lance Lynn , and Ian Kinsler added an RBI single off Octavio Dotel. The Rangers haven’t lost back-to-back games through the playoffs, so I like their chances on Friday, in the 7th game even though the Cardinals will again prove to be a tough test. Both teams used up the bullpens and not sure of who will be the starting pitcher for game 7. But one thing you can bet on, neither team will quit. The Cardinals won game 6 in the bottom of the 11th with a score of 109. I know the Texas Rangers manager, Ron Washington, called it just right during the post game interview. “They just beat us. We had the right people in the right place, we just didn’t get the job done. But we still have game 7 on Friday and we expect to win.”

AME Church Leads Drive for Richard Allen Postage Stamp Special to Elite News

he AME Church is leading a drive to secure 20,000 signatures for a USPS stamp to honor the life and works of Richard Allen. Facing a deadline of november 1, 2011, the public is invited to circulate and sign petitions. Richard Allen’s work to bring harmony in the city of Philadelphia is noted in historical documents which chronicle his several vocations - businessman, educator, minister, chimney sweeper and leader of the Africans. Included among his many jobs Allen drove a salt wagon during the American Revolution to raise the $2000 in Continental currency to pay his slave master. Like other Blacks, the liberty language of American colonists created a context which influenced Allen’s desire to be manumitted from slavery. He was one of the founders of the Free African Society, perhaps the earliest mutual aid societies which disbursed funds for widows, orphans, and the sick in their membership while assisting fugitive slaves and new migrants. In 1793, he and Absalom Jones took responsibility for preserving the dignity of the yellow fever epidemic victims of all races and cultures who were poor, by insuring their burial. During his lifetime he promoted Black commerce with Africa and decried the “scheme” to rid America of freed Africans (now

referred to as African-American or Black). From 1797 to 1831, Allen operated a station of the Underground Railroad from his home. In September 1830 Allen hosted the first national Black Convention with representatives from 7 states in attendance. The founding of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1816 made it the first independent Black denomination in America and is deemed by many historians as the first civil rights protest in the USA . in America, because all of these negative talkshow programs, and red neck attitudes against President Obama because of race will soon have to disband their tactics because of the success revealed as he said it would. nobody has ever seen a president this cool and calm about his every move and thought. He’s assured of what he is doing will work, the same as nehemiah, because he knew God was with him. President Obama knows that God is with him. First of all he knows that he never would have gotten into this position had it not been for God. Just look at the parallelisms here: Israel was in slavery over 400 years-negro’s was also in slavery over 400 years, and from George Washington to Barack Obama is over 400 years. This seems to be God’s gage, or whatever method, it’s God’s time, but there is a parallelism here that means something for us to take a look at. You see, President Obama is withstanding the same identical thing nehemiah did in his day. You see, all these negative talkshows, sanbalant’s, and Tobiah’s who are trying to hinder progress. They are using every demoralizing technique that they can come up with to redicule President Obama. A lot of rednecks in this country would rather see this country suffer, and themselves also, rather than see a Black President accomplish his goal for America. There are many that would like to see President Obama fail in his desire to bring creditability back to America, they do not want it to be a person of color that does it. The Lord put President Obama there and everybody better understand that. You see, the American public was Artaxerxes (the king) who let President Obama go to the White House, the same way Artaxerxes the King of Persia allowed nehemiah to go to Jerusalem. Do we see the parallelisms here? It’s the comparison we are looking at right here. After reading about nehemiah in Sunday School we thought this is gone and forgotten, no, no, here it is again. Just in a different manner, but the same methods and situations. “But God”- God is good, and nobody can hamper God’s plan for what is already His. If nobody else prays for President Obama, let us pray for him. God already has him in his hand, but that does not mean we do not have to pray for him. Let us not forget to read our Bibles, and may God BLESS YOU REAL GOOD and may He ever keep you in His loving care.

e were all created for the same purpose. We were created to bring glory and honor to God! Our specific tasks may differ and change from time to time, but we each have the same unchanging purpose. Everything we do, say, and think should bring glory and honor to our

God's race is run in the deepest part of our heart, not in the flurry of activity. Running well is not defined by doing more; rather, we run a "successful" race as we do every little task we are given with the complete and absolute devotion of our heart. His race is long and often difficult. There are many distractions which seek to slow us down and even pull us from the track; and at times we may even wonder why we're running. But being a participant in God's eternal race is infinitely more rewarding than standing on the sidelines and simply watching! He has called us to run and to run well!! We must run the path God places before us with all the strength He provides, and within the sure and calming protection of His grace. Let's run with the motivation of bringing Him glory and honor by loving Him with ALL our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Let's continue to run well, and with a burning desire to finish the race. Running is a fun sport. It is good exercise and helps you stay in shape. There are some important things to know if you are going to run a marathon. A marathon is a very long race. You have to pace yourself. You just can't run at full speed or you will give out before you can finish the race. Another thing is that you can't take along much or it will slow you down. That is what it means to run God's race. We have to look to the example our Lord Jesus gave us. We can't just do it on our own. If we hold on to our old ways and habits of being a bad person (sin), then we will not be able to finish the race. It will slow us down. If we rely on the Lord Jesus, he will forgive us and we can put aside our sin. Then we can run at a steady pace, living a godly life. Just as a runner keeps his mind on the finish line, we can keep our eyes on Jesus as we go through our life here on earth.

It requires nothing in us to call it into exercise towards us; it requires nothing whatever out of God to bring it into operation. The Cross and work of the Lord Jesus did not God good and gracious to us sinners. He was good and gracious to us before. It was God’s love to us that sent us a Saviour. The Cross and mediation of Christ is the way the Divine goodness has opened for itself into our world. It is the channel through which it flows to us, not the fountain that it comes from. Be Blessed! t would be an interesting study to discover all the passages of scripture pertaining to the birth and establishment of the church of our Lord on earth following the ministry of Christ. It has been said that the Pastor Clarence henderson church was born in a prayer meeting. Our Lord asked his disciples to tarry in Jerusalem until they were endured with power from on high. In an upper room they waited and prayed. Then came Pentecost with the coming down of the Holy Ghost, the preaching of the gospel, the conversion of the three thousand and establishment of the church at Jerusalem. The divine record tells us that they “Continued steadfastly in the apostle’s doctrine and fellowship and in prayer”. Steadfast prayer prepared the believers for the events that were to come. We will look at these events next week as we enter our prayer closet.

his was a different weekend for me; usually Sundays are church and football all-day. I’ve been around football pretty much all my life. The thing that happens during leon Simon games has never changed. Four quarters of football interrupted by half-time. Playing and coaching was my mentality. Half time was an interruption. Yesterday I went to the Metroplex youth sports (MYSports) Cheerleaders and Dance competition. I said earlier that I thought it was half time interruption because I was never afforded the opportunity to see these young ladies do their thing in a relaxed setting. I was either tied up coaching or being coached as they performed. Sure, I saw them practice, as I said before I

was tied up and never gave them the attention they deserved. Thanks to coach Darrin and Sam Widemon, Cheer Director Lakiesha Obera, cheer coaches: Shantosha Wade, Tameka Bailey, Shaniequa Warren, Tamesha Crutcher, and Shakemba Howard. They engineered a beautiful program that allowed these young ladies to demonstrate their skills and training in such a respectful way. I have a new found respect for the job theses coaches do. And even greater respect for the dedication a talent of these young ladies. They start out in the hot of summer practicing their routines, with the same zeal as there brothers practice football. Like their brothers their intent is to be the best. Most often they are never given the respect they deserve, but yet they continue supporting their teams and honing their craft. Sunday performances was so well organized, and performed with such creativeness you would think that they did this all the time. The enthusiasm and the lady like way they went about their routine really reflected greatly on their desire to be the best and the coaching they

She hosted her first fundraiser at LaCalle Doce Restaurant in north Oak Cliff to raise money for the March Democratic primary that is well needed for her campaign to challenge her incumbent U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson who has never had a serious challenge for the District 30 seat. State Rep Barbara Mallory Caraway says: “It‘s time for new leadership in Washington“ If some of you are not familiar with her and her accomplishments, Representative Barbara Mallory Caraway was born in Clarksville, Texas, but grew up in Amarillo, Texas. Representative Mallory Caraway has lived in Dallas since 1979.Barbara Mallory Caraway is no novice to politics. She entered Dallas politics by first serving as a two term Democratic Precinct Chair in the late eighties. She resigned her post as precinct chair to run for a place on the Dallas City Council in 1991 after the Federal Courts mandated councilmember’s be elected by single member districts. She lost that first race in a runoff but was not deterred. She regrouped, ran for city again and was elected to her first term on the Dallas City Council representing District 6 in 1993. She won that race against 5 other candidates including the incumbent. District 6 extended from the southern tip of Dallas all the way to the north to LBJ Freeway. It included the Stemmons

ountain View College welcomed Tom Pauken, TWC Chairman and Commissioner Representing Employers to announce a $202,668 Skills Development Fund job-training grant from the Texas Workforce Commission on October 21, 2011. The presentation which also included remarks by State Representative Roberto Alonzo and DCCCD Chancellor Dr. Wright L. Lassiter took place inside the new state-of-the-art Economic and Workforce Development Building, on the east side of the campus. Partnering employers also present included: Regional

Hispanic Contractors Association, Environmental Lighting Services, Azteca Enterprises Omega Contracting- Incorporated, Ruiz Protective Services Incorporated and Ponce Contractors-Incorporated. Did you know there is a Constitutional election on November 8, 2011? arly voting has already started for the november 8th Constitutional amendments election. Texas voters will consider 10 proposed Constitutional amendments including one that would exempt the surviving spouses of totally disabled veterans from paying property taxes after the veteran dies. Another proposal would change how property taxes are calculated on land set aside for water conservation. Water is one of our most precious commodities. We need to keep that in mind with so many droughts occurring every summer with regularity. Texans will also vote on one amendment that is close to my heart, the continuation of the low-interest rate Student Loan Program. This program began in 1985, and is administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to provide loans. This amendment would allow the Board to increase its total bonding capacity to $1.86 billion. In 2007, voters increased the Board’s bond capacity to $500 million. If this amendment passes, the Board will also be allowed to increase the limit on the amount it can loan each year, from $125 million to $350 million. The average student loan, which is handled by the College Access Loan Program, is about $8300. The program is totally self-sufficient and doesn’t rely on tax dollars. Proposition number 1 (SJR 14) - SJR 14 would amend the constitution to authorize the legislature to provide the surviving spouse of a 100 percent or totally disabled veteran with an exemption from ad valorem taxation of all or part of the mar-

ket value of the surviving spouse’s residence homestead as long as the surviving spouse has not remarried, the property was the residence homestead of the surviving spouse when the qualifying veteran died, and the property remains the residence homestead of the surviving spouse. The proposed amendment would appear on the ballot as follows: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature to provide for an exemption from ad valorem taxation of all or part of the market value of the residence homestead of the surviving spouse of a 100 percent or totally disabled veteran." Proposition number 2 (SJR 4) - SJR 4 would amend the constitution to authorize the Texas Water Development Board to issue additional general obligation bonds on a continuing basis for one or more accounts of the Texas Water Development Fund II, with the restriction that the total amount of bonds outstanding at any time does not exceed $6 billion. The proposed amendment would appear on the ballot as follows: “The constitutional amendment providing for the issuance of additional general obligation bonds by the Texas Water Development Board in an amount not to exceed $6 billion at any time outstanding.” Proposition number 3 (SJR 50) - SJR 50 would amend the constitution to authorize the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board or its successors to issue and sell general obligation bonds on a continuing basis for the purpose of financing educational loans for students, subject to certain constitutional restrictions, including a restriction as to the maximum principal amount of bonds outstanding at any one time. The proposed amendment would appear on the ballot as fol-

lows: "The constitutional amendment providing for the issuance of general obligation bonds of the State of Texas to finance educational loans to students.” Proposition number 4 (HJR 63) - HJR 63 would amend the constitution to authorize the legislature to permit a county to issue bonds or notes to finance the development or redevelopment of an unproductive, underdeveloped, or blighted area within the county, and to pledge increases in ad valorem tax revenues imposed on property in the area by the county for repayment of such bonds or notes. The amendment does not provide independent authority for increasing ad valorem tax rates. The proposed amendment would appear on the ballot as follows: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the legislature to permit a county to issue bonds or notes to finance the development or redevelopment of an unproductive, underdeveloped, or blighted area and to pledge for repayment of the bonds or notes increases in ad valorem taxes imposed by the county on property in the area. The amendment does not provide authority for increasing ad valorem tax rates." Proposition number 5 (SJR 26) - SJR 26 would amend the constitution to authorize the legislature to allow cities and counties to enter into interlocal contracts with other cities and counties without having to assess an ad valorem tax and set aside a specified amount of funds for the payment of costs under the interlocal contract. Two years ago some of these same individuals were involved with the prevention of this travesty to close the Main Post Office at I-30 and Sylvan in Dallas. Two years ago, the Postal Service was stalled, but only because of the input from the Citizens of Dallas, whom they failed to notify of the proposed closing. Two years ago, City Leaders were told the 9th largest city in the United States, Dallas, TX would not lose it’s identity by losing it’s postmark. However, they have. Where Union Leaders understand the affect of the internet, texting and other social medias have made upon the volume of mail, it is has been proven the U S Postal Service still provides a service that many Americans use and depend upon. Again,

this is a SERVICE that the citizens of Dallas deserve and should demand. The Postal Service, contrary to all the bad press has created a profit over the last four years. It is only because of the mandate to pre-fund its retirement plan for the next 75 years within a 10 year period (beginning in 2006) that a deficit exists. Another myth of the media, is the Postal Service is subzidized the government. The Postal Service is run purely on the monies collected fro their services. have to ask yourself why are they trying to close one of the most profitable Post Office in this region, not just this city? Could it have anything to do with the location? (inner city) Does it have anything to do with the employees? (most senior in this area), Does it have anything to do with the ethnicity of the employees? n beauty salons and barber shops across the nation, at summer barbecues and holiday dinners, African Americans have a long tradition of indulging in rich conversation. So much so that we’ve created our very own cultural vernacular, or way of speaking. no matter the venue, when we come together we are ready to talk about it all, from current events and politics to music and relationships. nothing is off limits…well, almost. Our conversations often turn to silence when it comes to personal finances. The subject of money has traditionally been a very private matter within our culture, most likely because of our strong sense of self-reliance and pride. Whatever the reason, it’s time to get comfortable and candid when talking about money matters. So here we go… I’ll start with my mother. never a banker, my mom (like many mothers in our community) had a way of managing household finances that made it look relatively simple, at least to my brother and me. She didn’t involve us in the day-to-day of household budgeting, so I never knew exactly how she was able to manage it all. What I do remember is that bills were always paid on time, period. When my mother reflects today, she shares that there were times when she needed to “rob Peter to pay Paul.” However, she never failed to write down all of her bills (a practice she’s continued since retirement) and manage her budget to make sure that everything was paid in full. One reason she succeeded is that she was diligent about reviewing her list, regularly assessing exactly where we were with our family budget. There were specific objectives for stretching the family’s funds, including, setting aside money for college, Christmas, tithing, vacations and savings. I’m always impressed when I think about her generation, and those before her, and how they somehow seemed to have acquired so much with so much less than we have today. They attained what they did largely because they had a strategy that they were committed to –and this was long before on-line banking. They believed in controlling their money rather than it controlling them. I’ve kept this example top-of-mind as I matured. Today, I am very up front with my children when it comes to financial planning and management. We talk about it. My boys understand the concept of managing money and realize that they have to save (savings account), before discretionary spending (pulling money from the piggy bank for a Wii cartridge). Despite today’s challenging economy, things really haven’t changed much when it comes to the basic fundamentals for achieving economic independence. The same way our parents managed every dime with purpose, we should model that behavior. Mastering your finances starts with organization and goals. Whether you are thinking about purchasing a home or an investment property, saving for college, building wealth, or simply going on a vacation, you have to start with a plan. To begin, clearly lay out what money you have coming in, and what you have going out. A simple technique I’ve used is writing down every dollar you spend for a month. That helps you see where the money is going so you can prioritize and, perhaps, make adjustments. For me, that was limiting that daily trip to the coffee shop for a chai tea latte to once or twice a week (saving myself $50 each month) – and I didn’t wait for Lent to make that change. Once you have this insight, create an itemized budget. next, be deliberate about thoroughly combing through your expenses and transactions, and regularly reconciling your budget. If you find that you have more disposable income than projected, resist the temptation to reward yourself. Instead, consider applying more funds toward paying down debt, or to your savings or 401(k) plan. And finally, enrich yourself. Study. Take advantage of resources designed to help you to become savvier about things like budgeting, saving, investing and building wealth for life after retirement. Increased access to the principal of the state public education trust fund would be based upon HJR 109 granting the authority to consider alternative market calculations when determining the amount of principal that is available for distribution to the available school fund. HJR 109 would also provide authority to distribute to the available school fund annual revenue from school fund land or other properties up to $300 million per year. The proposed amendment would appear on the ballot as follows: "The constitutional amendment clarifying references to the permanent school fund, allowing the General Land Office to distribute revenue from permanent school fund land or other properties to the available school fund to provide additional funding for public education, and providing for an increase in the market value of the permanent school fund for the purpose of allowing increased distributions from the available school fund." Proposition number 7 (SJR 28) - SJR 28 would amend the constitution by adding El Paso County to the list of counties authorized to create conservation and reclamation districts to develop parks and recreational facilities financed by taxes. edar Hill High School Senior Charles Boyce is currently the number one ranked Boys 18 tennis player in Texas . Boyce is balancing the travel demands of competitive tennis with his schoolwork, by taking virtual classes through Cedar Hill High School . The 17 year old is scheduled to compete in six tennis tournaments between now and the end of 2011. Boyce was homeschooled during his junior year of high school. The new virtual class program at Cedar Hill High School allows him to keep up with his schoolwork online and graduate with his classmates in the spring of 2012. Boyce started playing tennis when he was 12. By the time he was 14 he was ranked among the top 10 percent of players for his age in Texas . He claimed the number one ranking in the state when he was 15 in the Boys 16 category. now that he is 17, he is ranked number one in the Texas Boys 18 category. Boyce won the Excellence Tournament held during Labor Day Weekend in Richardson , TX . Boyce is currently developing his national and international ranking by competing against boys from across the country and all over the world. That means practicing at least three hours a day and playing in more competitive tournaments. “You must prepare like you want to play because dur-

ing competition you will ultimately play like you have practiced,” explained Charles Boyce. “I am so glad that Cedar Hill High School is offering the virtual program this year so I will be able to walk with my classmates when I graduate.” Boyce will be taking four core classes and three elective classes online. Cedar Hill High School started the virtual class program this year to provide students access to courses that weren’t being offered and to provide students the ability to retake courses at their own pace that they had failed. The school has two computer labs where students can logon and take the classes online. The computer lab is also where the students take their tests under the supervision of a proctor. “It is a sacrifice for our family because of the time and financial commitment, but we are glad that the Cedar Hill School District offers this virtual program so Charles can keep up with his school work,” said Merle Boyce, Charles’ mother. About Cedar Hill ISD: CHISD has 8100 students and is rated as a Recognized school district by the Texas Education Agency. The Texas State Comptrollers Office awarded Cedar Hill Independent School District a 4.5 in its five-star rating system for its Financial Allocation Study for Texas (FAST).
